A big screen for your dash

Alpine designed their IVE-W530 DVD receiver for anyone who doesn't need in-dash navigation but wants a nice audio/video setup in the car. It's got everything you want in a system controller, including a sharp, clear 6.1" VGA touchscreen, powerful audio performance, and plenty of great A/V options.

Alpine IVE-W530

The Bluetooth advantage

Your phone will pair up with this Alpine in seconds, and from then on it's no problem keeping your hands on the wheel you get a call. The receiver automatically transfers your phonebook, so it's easy to make outgoing calls, too. Plus, you can stream the music stored on your phone to this receiver wirelessly, and enjoy control through the touchscreen over play, pause, and other basic functions.

Enjoy App Mode, plus other music and video

Plug in your iPhone® and you can tap into many popular audio and video apps. You can enjoy a variety of streaming media, like Netflix, YouTube, and Gawker, when you're parked and your phone is connected to the network. You'll also have control over the music and video content on your iPod® or iPhone when you plug into the USB connection. You can enjoy other A/V sources by using the front A/V input or the rear USB port. When you're on the road, you can connect a video monitor to entertain the passengers in the back with a DVD or video.

Audio controls and system expansion

The IVE-W530 comes equipped with bass and treble tone controls you can access right from the touchscreen. This Alpine delivers some impressive power with its internal amp, and you'll also find a full complement of preamp outputs if you're installing outboard amps in your vehicle.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

I wanted a DVD/CD player as well as the now typical Bluetooth/usb Options. I also like a dial as opposed to buttons for the volume control. This suited my needs well. Sound is great and I love the defeat option to bypass processing. The Mic seems decent enough during calls and with all the added accessories from Crutchfield install was simple. Great purchase!

Pros: Great sound, Great value. Plenty of expandability. Straight forward.

Cons: It's trivial, but I do wish it had more color options to match the stock Display.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had many Alpine products in the past, and they never fail to impress. This stereo is no exception. For a base price touch screen (prices go way up from here), you really couldn't ask for more. Sounds great and looks classy in my car. Basic controls are simple and intuitive. No tiny multi-functional buttons that hinder the fun many after market stereos. I could do without the complex brake sequence in order to access the advanced menu options, but this is so rarely used that it is only a small set back.

Pros: Many connectivity options, works seamlessly with my phone. If you think Bluetooth calls are nice, Bluetooth audio will change your life.

Cons: Stupid brake sequence safety feature, but again really a minor complaint in the big picture.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always been a fan of alpine quality (overall and sound). But for some reason, this HU did not produce "my" expected sound quality out of my stock speakers. I seem to remember my stock HU (fujitsuten) sounding more to my liking. This is puzzling me as I've always loved the sound quality from my past Alpine HU's. I'll try to figure out if my problem is my stock speakers (and hopefully that bumps up the Sound Quality rating I gave this HU). On the other aspects, this is good value for you money. It is relatively easy to install (in my Toyo SUV), thanks in part to Crutchfield's suggestion on install materials I need. It has good features I need (like extra Video input and the option to switch to camera without putting the car in reverse, etc.). And I like Alpine's physical design of their HU's.

In my opinion Alpine is the best. I've been using them for the last 15 yrs and never had one break down on me. I always was able to sell them and upgrade to a newer unit. It might not be the nicest unit, but has the best sound quality and built to last and easy to use. The way Alpine is going I'm gonna be using them for along time to come.

    Pros: Its a proven brand!

    Cons: Can't find none.

    A Very Good Radio

Stephen from Byrdstown, TN on 10/5/2014

    2008 Chevrolet Colorado
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After about a month of using this radio with my 2008 Chevy Colorado, I can safely say it is worth every cent (yes, there are MANY with this considering the price) I spent on it. The touch screen is surprisingly responsive and doesn't give me too many issues, and it is (generally) simple to figure out. The display is surprisingly good, if a bit washed out, but still does what's needed. The most important thing is how well the sound quality stacks up with others. This is the first radio I've used in this price range (and the second aftermarket radio I've used), but it works as well as I expected. At the VERY high volumes, it does hiss, but that could be due to my stock speakers that are six-years-old, so I will let that slide. (Plus, I don't use that level much anyway. I only use it if I'm with friends with the windows rolled down and a good song comes on, and I only do that for a couple of seconds.) But, at the normal levels, it works INCREDIBLY well.

Pros: The sound on this radio is VERY good for the normal and a bit into higher end. It starts hissing at the high end, but that is most likely due to my speakers still being stock. Either way... Incredible. The display is also very well lit. It isn't hard on my eyes like my previous Pioneer radio. It's also still bright enough to be easy to see no matter what. The colors are a bit washed out, however, in videos. But,,, Are you really going to watch that many videos on a radio?

Cons: Some options (like the way to adjust time) are buried or impossible to find, even after reading the directions. It gets a bit frustrating on that end, but nothing too bad.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this to upgrade a older alpine stereo. Works great can bluetooth audio from our phones, samsung and apple. Controls for our ipod classic have great search features. Sound quality is good standard adjustments for alpine with subwoofer control.

Pros: Ease of use, good touch screen features.

Cons: Having to connect wiring into parking brake and brake pedal connections factory wiring.

Its great once you get a bypass

jobes12345 from honolulu, hawaii on 7/27/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

System is great but is not plug and plug even with a harness. You will have to go sift though wiring and find your parking break and foot brake wiring, if you don't you will basically have a 50 dollar stereo that only plays radio and Bluetooth, settings will be disabled so you won't even be able to turn on a backup cam or get into basic settings. Do yourself a favor get the 20 dollar bypass it simplifies install a whole lot and unlocks all of the stereo features out of the box.

Pros: fast boot up, nice feature set, good BT. DVD works great and USB reads and plays nicely

Cons: Severly crippled by default without parking brake and foot brake wiring. Reads USB Memory a bit slow.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a excellent head unit it works with the Alpine NVE m300 navigation unit the only thing I don't like is that Alpine doesn't use the loudness button any more so you have to crank the volume up to at least 20 in order to get you subs to bump really loud other than that its a excellent unit easy to use and allows you to have the gps with out buying the more expensive unit.

Pros: easy to use work with Alpine NVE m300 navigation module

Cons: doesn't have the loudness button

    Excellent product. Okay bt sound

Bought this to put an Alpine screen in the rear. Works excellent. I really like that I can shut the front screen off and just play it in back. Very nice Ipod functionality and on screen phone display. I plan on adding a Clarion rear view camera.

Pros: Nice display. Screen blackout function. Interfaces with everything. Recognizes my phone everytime i enter. Expandability for amps in the future. Excellent picture

Cons: Bluetooth phone quality needs improvement. I am going to try one of the new Parrot double mics. People say it sounds like its breaking up.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used to be an Alpine guy, until I bought this radio a few months back. I bought it for two, well, really three reasons: ALPINE name, Alpine's ipod connectivity and bluetooth. I honestly thought that since it was an Alpine unit with a Parrot bluetooth core, it would be a win win situation, I WAS WRONG!

Pros: It looks cool, the display quality is great!

Cons: Bluetooth quality, to be honest, it just sucks! The PANDORA interface with the ipod is poor, it won't allow you to do much with it. The search functionality while on ipod it SLOWWWWWWW. If you are looking for a good around unit, look somewhere else.

Clinton from Warner Robins on 6/26/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using Alpine products for over 25 years and they keep getting better. This is the second touch screen DVD units and again they keep getting better. I simply love the Bluetooth audio. As soon as it is on my Galaxy S III syncs and picks right up with my playlist.

    Pros: Bluetooth audio, sound quality.

Cons: I hate the stupid foot brake/parking brake dance that rarely works right.

Just as described. I would recommend this product

Pros: Easy set up, good quality and sound.

Cons: Would prefer if USB was in front instead of running cord and hassle that the foot brake line has to be hooked up for general settings including clock to work.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you have a double-din headunit space in your dashboard and don't need navigatipon, then this is the perfect receiver for you. I've always been a fan of alpine products due to their superior quality and I'm not at all disappointed with this product. There are a plethora of settings and options that allow you to tweak your music and visuals to a great degree. The most surprising feature was how well the Bluetooth synced right up with my Iphone and routes the caller through my speakers. The headunit boots very quickly, in only a few seconds, so if you add a back-up camera in the future you will not have any lag. Ipod control through the unit could be a little bit faster, but it still scrolls through playlists and albums quite fast. Overall I'm extremely pleased with this purchase and don't know how I lived without one for soo long!

Pros: Screen quality Touch panel quality/sensitivity Bluetooth functionality Iphone/Ipod capability

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I usually always stick with alpine but after 2 months of this unit I've had it.after the firmware update it no longer auto connects to Bluetooth and alpine has no eta on an update only stating that they are working on it. Then a week ago I switched to an iphone5 and found that it wouldn't connect through the USB anymore, with that alpine told me I needed to purchase their iPod cable and a 30 pin to lightning adapter to make it work. I don't find this acceptable when it's advertised to work with an iPhone. So now I'm waiting on my pioneer head unit to come in, thanks to crutchfield for taking care of its customers....

    JPPASCI from NJ on 2/25/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was the best radio I have owned until I upgraded the firmware to 1.27. Previously I would have given it a 5 star. After the update, the radio will not auto pair when I enter the car. I have to click into the setup / source setup / paried devices / and click on my phone every time. All other functions work and I have tested with multiple phones. Beware of the firmware upgrade you can not go back. I hope Alpine will provide a fix.

    Pros: Great radio

    Cons: Bad Firmware update

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this product, but like most people that self install, I wish it gave more information for hooking up the two brake wires so DVD player will work correctly. Since I haven't hooked these up I can't use the DVD and I am missing some setup functions. With that being said, still exactly what I wanted out of a deck. The BT function lets me keep my phone in the glove compartment and I can just dial the phone through my deck just. My wife is very happy about that.

Pros: Easy to use and has all the features capabilities that you could want.

    Cons: Haven't found one yet.

    2008 Toyota Corolla
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this unit in my car for a few weeks and was very un-impressed by it, with the exception of the audio quality. This unit is short on features when compared to others in the same price range. No HD radio, it did not work with my 5th Gen iPod video or my 2nd Gen iPod Nano. It would not play the song I selected from a search! Browsing songs was also slow. Bluetooth hands-free was terrible. Callers could not hear much of anything. Endud up getting the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH- many more features, better sound quality, FULL iPod support for only a few bucks more.

Pros: Decent sound, good audio quality, quick startup.

Cons: Too expensive for the price. This should be a $300 unit. Not enough features for the money. Didn't work as advertised

First thing crutchfields was wonderfull ,fast, professional,no problems there. The stereo has all the bells and whisles except an equalizer thats not worth paying the extra money. The rub was if you plan on installing it youself you better very very handy with tools..I installed mine in a 2002 ford f350 superduty .The wiring wasn't to bad but you have to cut and trim the dash just right for it to fit.A lot of trial and error. You have to bend the steel slider rail for the factory stereo down for it to fit.REMEMBR DON'T TRIM TO MUCH OF THE DASH OPENING TAKE YOUR TIME.As for the unit i highly recomend it.If ou are not very handy pay a professinoal o install it.

Pros: everything you need and want

Cons: no equalizer and pain in the neck to install in a superduty..

    Excellent Reciever

Prius User from Phoenix, Az on 10/9/2012

Overall happy with this stereo. Great sound, lots of gadgets and plenty of options. It looks great on my 2012 Prius and goes with with the interior finish. Navigating through screens is easy. Phone/CD/USB/DVD screens are managable. After a couple day trial, I upgraded from a double-din Alpine CDE-W235BT reciever to this Alpine W530 unit. Big differance in navigating from the more analog reviever, but the sound remained the same. Glad I moved up. Recommend!

Pros: Sound is excellent. Bass is incredible as the highs. I expected no less from an Alpine unit. My rear view mirror is vibrating on the bass......and I don't have a pre-amp attached, though I have Kenwood 5-ways on the front.

Cons: Some of the touch screen buttons difficult to enable.

Jason from Beaumont, Texas on 9/30/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very nice head unit. It has nice simple to use touch screen options. It looks really nice in my new 2012 Nissan 370z. With an adapter, my car's steering wheel radio controls works the radio perfectly!

Pros: Easy to Install, connects with steering wheel controls, fills up total space of original radio.

    Cons: None

    Very solid head unit

Matt H from Akron, OH on 9/26/2012

    2010 Dodge Avenger
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a very solid head unit, sounds really good out of the box and has tons of features. Owners manual leaves something to be desired, but its fun to play with and figure things out if you're an audio enthusiast like I am. Setting the clock requires wizardry, though, so be ready for that.

Pros: Big improvement in sound quality over my stock head unit out of the box. It looks clean and like it is supposed to come with my car, doesn't have dolphins swimming on it like my first Alpine unit did. Plenty of features.

Cons: The subwoofer control on the head unit was confusing and wasn't explained well in the manual. When you have the output set at 0, the default value, that seems to be the equivalent of -15. You have to crank it to the maximum level (15) to get the same effect as the stock head unit 0 setting in my car. Figured this out after getting no bass at all on the default settings and pouring over the car checking for shorts, regrounding my amp several times, checking voltages, swapping RCA's, fuses, etc.

    Almost Perfect

Donnyyyyy from Atlanta, GA on 9/23/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A nice unit that works well. It has plenty of outputs and inputs including sub control but lacks an eq or even a mid-range.

Pros: Affordable QUALITY and very easy to use. 3 sets of rca's and a sub volume control

Cons: no eq and Alpine's imprint doesn't work with it. Alpine offers no external eq.

I wanted a full featured DVD reciever with bluetooth. My crutchfield advisor steered me towards this one.. I am so pleased he did... The rotary volume knob is my favorite feature.. I dont mind touch screen for all te other controlls but having an old school knob for volume adjustments is just a pleasure. I will not buy another reciever without one after having this one..

      • Wide: Evenly stretches a 4:3 picture horizontally to fit the widescreen monitor.
      • Cinema: Displays a 4:3 picture by stretching out the picture horizontally and vertically; good for displaying a cinema-type picture with a 16:9 ratio.
      • Normal: Displays a 4:3 picture at the center of the screen with a vertical black band at each side.
    • Visual EQ Mode: You can select one of the following preset modes suitable for the subject image:
      • Off (Flat): Initial setting.
      • Night Mode: Suitable for movies in which dark scenes frequently appear.
      • Soft: Suitable for animated films.
      • Sharp: Suitable for old movies where images are not clearly shown.
      • Contrast: Suitable for recent movies.
      • User Memory (P-1, P-2): Change and save Brightness, Color, Tint, Contrast, and Sharpness settings in the two user memories.
    • Display Colors: You can choose from four different background colors for the display; Blue, Red, Green, or Amber.
    • Backlight/Illumination Control: You adjust the brightness of the LCD backlight from -15 to +15. You can then select one of the following modes for the LCD's fluorescent backlight.
      • Auto: Adjusts the brightness of the background illumination based on the ambient light in your vehicle.
      • On: Keeps the background illumination of the monitor dark (always dimmed, the degree to which the backlight is dimmed is adjustable).
      • Off: Keeps the background illumination of the monitor bright (no dimming).

Simultaneous Mode: You can watch the video portion of another source on the unit's touchscreen monitor, while listening to the audio over your car speakers from the current source.

Black Out Mode: You can turn the touchscreen monitor off, to simply listen to your music. This will reduce power consumption and enhance sound quality.

Video Lock-out Feature: For safety and legal reasons, the IVE-W530 features a video lock-out feature to prevent the driver from viewing a video source while the vehicle is in motion. To watch a video source, the vehicle must be parked with the ignition in the ACC or ON position. The vehicle's parking brake must be engaged, disengaged, and engaged again while the foot brake is held in. This also pertains to the receiver's System & Audio Setup Menus.

Hard-key Buttons: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons and a rotary dial along the left-edge of the screen. You can adjust the brightness of the button lighting at night from -2 to +2.

2-DIN Chassis: The Alpine IVE-W530 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology (powered by Parrot): The Alpine IVE-W530 features built-in Bluetooth technology (v3.0), powered by Parrot. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: The Alpine IVE-W530 can be paired to up to three Bluetooth enabled mobile devices (only one device can be used at a time). Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine IVE-W530. Parrot software updates provide support for future phones.

External Microphone with Noise Cancellation: The included external microphone (with visor-clip) allows you to speak to the other party on the telephone call hands-free, while the other party's voice is played through your car stereo speakers. The external microphone is tuned and engineered to reduce noise interference and feedback. This allows optimal placement in your car, for the best possible sound quality. You can adjust the microphone's volume level; and even mute the microphone, so your voice will not be heard by the caller. The external microphone measures 0.75" (diameter) x 1.3125" (deep); and features an attached 13' cable terminated by a male 3.5mm connector.

Great all-around receiver for audio enthusiasts

Written by Dominic DeVito, Staff Writer - Creative, on 4/15/2013 3:38:00 PM
The IVE-W530 sounds fantastic, thanks to its Burr-Brown 24-bit digital-to-analog converter. I was able to hear lots of subtle details from all my audio sources, from USB to iPod to CD. Not a ton of sonic "tweaks" available, but I honestly didn't miss them. Speaking of iPod, the search function was super fast for finding songs by artist, title, album, or playlist, even on my device which is packed with songs. The screen quality is nearly top-notch, and the icons are a pretty good size for folks with thick fingers like myself, ensuring I won't pull up the wrong audio source by mistake. Phone functionality is quick and responsive, with an easy-to-follow menu for making and answering calls, as well as streaming audio. The dedicated phone button on the top left makes it easy to access at any time without going through the menus.

It has a screen off function in the settings. You might have set it by accident. [ Anthony  Mar 30, 2015 ]
I have not tried to do any dual zone functionality with the receiver. [ Christopher  Feb 24, 2015 ]

I'm sorry, I have no idea when it comes to a jeep. Only a Lincoln Town Car and Ford Explorer. You should have received schematics that depict what you need to do to the consul to fit the head unit. [ CHRISTOPHER J  Jul 09, 2014 ]
you can use any speakers you want, just make sure you talk to the guys at Crutchfield who are the very best at giving you ideas and options. i got Alpine for mine and Polk on the back and they all work amazing in conjunction. this is my second SUV i built a stereo system for and bought everything at Crutchfield because of the warranty which i never needed, the information and advice which was priceless. Look, as far as i am concerned, you cannot go wrong with Alpine, just make sure you put the rights accessories with it like amps and speakers. i love mine and cant get enough of it, and when my daughters go my Jeep, they control it quite easily to watch their videos and the sound is simply amazing. Best of luck to you bro and let me know how your combination went. SM [ SANDRO  Jul 08, 2014 ]
I installed it in a Challenger and had to cut a platic support out of the way. [ DUANE  Jul 08, 2014 ]
nothing needs to be modified just use the factory wire harness and dash kit to install it. [ ANDREW  Jul 08, 2014 ]

I dont know if a Windows phone will work, my only experience has been with an iPhone 4, and Note 3 with the Android OS. [ JONATHAN E  Jun 20, 2014 ]
Sorry, can't help you. I use it with iPhone. Pandora and Bluetooth work with iPhone. [ THOMAS  Jun 20, 2014 ]
I don't know about the phones you have, but my Droid Razr, iPhone4 & iPhone5 works great. Sorry I can't answer you on the phones listed. I use the Bluetooth all the time. [ THERESA M  Jun 20, 2014 ]
I don't have this unit in front of me, but I can't find any information that says it would have any GPS capabilities built in or directly able to be added. The first model from Alpine with built in GPS is the INE-W940. A portable GPS would be used separately from this unit. If the GPS has A/V outs it may be possible to feed that into this unit through the Aux inputs. Utilizing a mapping application in a phone would allow for the voice prompts to come through the receiver if you are streaming audio through the phone. I have personally used this method with good success in my own vehicles utilizing Bluetooth or an Aux input. An Advisor can help explain all the options available and how they would work. It's an awesome deck!! Your android phone should work great! ... I personally have an iPhone As far as in the speakers are concerned... You could always add them later. I replaced all my indoor speakers with Alpine 5x 7's at the time of installation.. And it sounded great!! Hope this helps!! [ KITTI  Apr 16, 2014 ]
Sorry, I have no experience with Android. I use it with my iPhone 5 (i0S) [ THOMAS  Apr 15, 2014 ]
Not sure about the Android phone I would only be guessing. I put the radio in my 2014 Subaru Forester with stock speakers and it sounds better than factory. Its a nice unit. [ William  Apr 15, 2014 ]
I personally never tried an android phone with this unit but for the money I would look at pioneer radios... You'll get a lot more bang for your buck [ BRYAN J  Apr 15, 2014 ]
The deck works well with my Galaxy Note 3. Especially like the Bluetooth audio and the option for the back up camera. The deck should make your stock speakers sound better, provided you can install it without having to bypass stock amps, etc. Overall I really like the deck. [ JONATHAN E  Apr 15, 2014 ]
This radio definitely works with android phones. It worked with my s3 and works with my note 3. The only thing that didn't always work was the track information displaying when using pandora. Other than that this radio is great. The sound clarity is good with stock speakers but the bass isn't as loud as with stock head unit. [ BRANDON  Apr 15, 2014 ]
You should be able to pair the head unit with the Android phone. I had no problem syncing my I5. The Alpine will probably have more power than the stock radio. The factory speakers will sound good with some tweaking of the EQ. But! Will over drive the old speakers at very high volume. Enjoy the radio and save up for some new speakers. P.S. Set your iPod setting for repeat, otherwise, at the end of an album, it will automatically go into random mode. [ CHRISTOPHER J  Apr 15, 2014 ]
It will work flawlessly once you activate the bluetooth app. on your Android and Alpine headunit. The head unit pairs up automatically.good luck. It's a great unit for the money. [ JULIO A  Apr 15, 2014 ]
I'm looking to purchase a double DIN unit (Alpine) for a 2013 Chevy Silverado (non bose). I really like the features of the IVE W-530 but the website shows it not compatible with my vehicle whereas the other Alpine double DIN units are. What specific differences make this model incompatible? Thanks! [ Jeremy  Feb 18, 2014 ]
What does din and double din mean? [ Bigtrshrod  Dec 21, 2013 ]
This receiver does not have navigation built in. However, you could still use a portable unit, or connect a smartphone and use a GPS or mapping app on that. [ Jeff  Dec 16, 2013 ]  Staff
