More power for your Alpine receiver

Features

Overview: The Alpine KTP-445A Head Unit Power Pack is an easy-to-install power upgrade amplifier that allows you to add higher output and more dynamic response to your Alpine head unit. The KTP-445A amplifies your Alpine head unit's power output, resulting in a 150% power increase over the original power from the head unit's built-in amplifier.

Notes:
  • Because of its high-powered amplifier design, the Alpine KTP-445A does require that a separate +12V constant power wire is run to the battery with a separate inline 15A fuse in vehicles with lower than a 15A fuse protecting the factory radio. Check out the "Accessories" tab for wiring kit.
  • This Alpine high-powered amp won't work in systems where an outboard factory amplifier is still active. If used in vehicles with a factory amplifier, the factory amp will need to be completely bypassed (this may result in lost speaker channels, if factory amp has more than 4 channels).
  • The increase in power may result in a louder warning chime in certain vehicles.

Compatibility: The KTP-445A connects to any 2005 and newer Alpine head unit that has a black 16-pin wiring harness. Please check with your Crutchfield Product Advisor to confirm compatibility.

45 Watt x 4 Channel Amplifier: The Alpine KTP-445A Head Unit Power Pack employs a 45 watt x 4 channel amplifier. The amplifier offers an unbelievably low noise floor, taking extra care to ensure a clean signal path, with no extraneous interference. The end result is a 1 Watt Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 82dB or better. Uniquely, the amplifier distortion actually decreases at higher frequencies, resulting in a clean and clear signal where your ear is most sensitive to distortion.

  • CEA-2006 Power Rating: 45 watts x 4 channels (at 4/2-ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
  • Max Power Output: 90 watts x 4 channels (Peak)

Note: The specifications given by Alpine for the built-in amplifier comply with the CEA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

Installation: Since the KTP-445A is small and compact, it installs behind your Alpine head unit in the dash of most vehicles. Installation is simple with no special tuning. The 39" grey connector harness plugs into one end of the Head Unit Power Pack and connects to the rear plug on your Alpine head unit. The 31" black connector harness plugs into the other end of the Head Unit Power Pack and connects to your Alpine receiver's harness (included with your Alpine receiver). You will need to splice or crimp the wires from the Alpine receiver's harness to a Crutchfield vehicle harness adapter (sold separately).

Note: The factory radio circuit needs to be a minimum of 15A. If it is not, a separate power and ground will need to be installed for the KTP-445A

I wanted to boost the RMS power output of my new receiver without needing to add a large amplifier and the wiring work that would be required for it. [ Michael  Feb 21, 2016 ]
Extremely compact, powerful sound, and super easy to install. [ Mark  Feb 18, 2016 ]
Purchased and used one prior and I really loved how it woke up a mid-range radio with 4V out and good mids/highs. Stashes nicely once you trim down the VERY long leads which are included. Doesn't get hot at all even if stored in a tight spot, even in a car known to just breath engine compartment air over the unit and into the cabin ('95 Miata). Now installing in an '02 Jeep Liberty with JL VR components and ditching the brick under the seats. [ Wingnut  Feb 17, 2016 ]
Needed to power the speakers to their full potential. [ bruce  Feb 03, 2016 ]
I have two alpine receivers that this product will work with. [ Cordie  Jan 23, 2016 ]
I usually don't amp my door speakers because I never turn my deck volume up past half way. 18w RMS is loud enough and I don't need to be heard 3 blocks away. However I agree that 18w RMS isn't enough to get the full potential out of a speaker. I chose this amp because it is a easy install inline with an Alpine deck not requiring power and ground cables and running or splicing speaker wire to the door speakers. [ Mark  Jan 18, 2016 ]
My entire system is alpine i want more power for my system for the summer [ Robert  Jan 10, 2016 ]
Small. Cute. Puts out power. [ Blaine  Dec 27, 2015 ]
Want big sound, alpine delivers. [ paul  Dec 21, 2015 ]
To add extra amps, over amps produced by new head unit. Also because it's an Alpine, the plug n play to another Alpine head unit was flawless! [ Richard  Dec 17, 2015 ]
I wanted to add a little boost to my Infinity Reference speakers without spending too much. Just to give me an idea of the potential of my speakers, while i try to decide if I want to upgrade or not. It was at a reasonable price and I have a compatible Alpine head unit. Plus I was curious to see how it performed versus an average sized amp. [ Gilberto  Dec 16, 2015 ]
Great audio and easy install. [ Don  Dec 12, 2015 ]

I believe so. [ ANDREW  Jun 05, 2017 ]
Should be, it connects in line from the head unit toward your speakers , using the same connectors. I recommend it if you want good sounding loud music without installing an amp. [ william  Jun 05, 2017 ]
I installed this in my 97 Buick, I used all the factory wiring, upgrading to Rockford Fosgate speakers. I just used all the wires that came with the amp, I had no problems with distortion, even when my kid played his music loud. The harness is a bit long and required a little creative stuffing to get it to fit. Good luck [ Patrick  May 25, 2017 ]
No you don't need that heavy a gauge. It's overkill. The amp isn't that demanding. I used existing gauge, 16 I think. No problems whatsoever. It is not real loud but it certainly cleans up the music. I really like mine. [ BRIAN E  May 25, 2017 ]
If you are using it with an alpine head unit it will have direct connect plugs. No extra wire is needed [ James  May 25, 2017 ]
As I recall, there is no power connection required. Simply unplug the harness from the head unit, plug that harness into the amp, the plug the amp harness into the head unit. Done. Simple as that, and really worth the low price. [ JW  May 24, 2017 ]

Unless you can change the settings in the head unit, there is nothing on the amp that allows any changes at all. It is just in line with the speaker and power connector. [ BENSON H  Apr 30, 2017 ]
We put one in an 89 GMC Sierra Regular Cab. We replaced the factory head unit with an Alpine. There was plenty of room to secure this amp behind or under the head unit [ Joseph  Dec 20, 2016 ]
Behind the radio on top of the duct work secure it with what u can i used two sided tape and made a brkt on a dash brkt [ DONALD L  Dec 20, 2016 ]
I mounted mine behind an Alpine ILX-007 in the dash of a 2003 Silverado. [ Clint  Dec 20, 2016 ]
It would fit behind the dash... that's the beauty of it. [ MATTHEW  Dec 20, 2016 ]
I have an 02 silverado and was able to mount it under the console close to the cup holders [ Jonathan  Dec 20, 2016 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Kenny  Dec 17, 2016 ]  Staff
Yes [ scott  Nov 26, 2016 ]
Not sure exactly what your asking here but that until will work with that radio. If your asking if it will fit in the car, it fits behind the stereo in my 03 f250. It is actually pretty small [ Richard  Nov 26, 2016 ]
First off, unless you have plenty of sound deadening material installed, this may not be enough wattage to hear over the exhaust or the supercharger. Having said that, I cant see why it wouldnt. [ shawn  Nov 25, 2016 ]
Should work with all Alpine head units. It is a must have if you upgrade your unit. The wattage that comes with new head units is not enough by itself. [ ryun  Sep 19, 2016 ]
Yes it will. [ MICHAEL  Sep 19, 2016 ]
Yes should work just fine [ kenneth  Aug 22, 2016 ]
Every car's dash space is different and I'm not familiar with the Fiero other than knowing that it's a midengine design. Does this mean that you have a trunk in the front and no firewall? Extend the wire harness if you need to and put the amp up there. I managed to sneak one of these amps behind the dash in my Miata. I had to use wire ties to secure it but it's in and doesn't rattle. The amp has generous wiring harness length and you should be able to find a place. The effort required to install it will be rewarded by the additional sounds you'll get from this amp. So, have you tried calling Crutchfield Support? [ Pat  Aug 01, 2016 ]
I put both of them, ( ya, I bought 2 for 2 different vehicles) under the dash. I used zip ties and little hope. I used it in my daughters 2000 VW bug and my 98 Chevy pickup. [ GENE  Aug 01, 2016 ]
I would not think so. With the plug and play, it is just that. It will amplify you door speakers. I would go the route of a bigger 4 channel amp if you feel the need of more power. I can tell you this little amp does a great job on my 4 door speakers. [ COREY  Apr 09, 2016 ]
You can't hook 2 of them together. [ terry  Apr 09, 2016 ]
I did a quick check in Crutchfield and it appears the 6 speaker system is (2 front door speakers + 2 tweaters) and two rear deck speakers. Typically, the tweaters are fed off of a filter from that is between the door speaker and the tweater. As such, you still have a four channel system which is what the Alpine Power Pack is designed for. So, I think the Alpine amp will work with your system. My application for this amp was in an old Jeep to power the dash speakers and overhead speakers. I used a separate amp to power subwoofers. I'll have to qualify my answer in two ways. One, simply speaking, this amp will work, is relatively easy to install and can drive your stock speakers better than the stock unit can. Two, while this amp worked ok, I don't think it has enough power to drive really deep sound at moderate to high volume levels. I would recommend deriving low level signal outputs, and put a high quality 5 channel amp and replace the speakers. If you want to take it in steps, you could install the Alpine power pact and then add a separate amp/subwoofer later. Hope this helps. [ Roger Daren  Mar 08, 2016 ]
If you are adding this to an existing sound system you might have problems. I installed this unit at the same time as a new Alpine radio. The wiring harness to the radio plugged right into the output of the amp, then the supplied cord plugged into the input end and into the radio. Unit was excellent, it was put into a Jeep Wrangler with the top off and had more than enough power to overcome road noise. You might have to do some creative wiring to a ford radio. [ JAMES  Mar 07, 2016 ]
First off, there is two versions of the power pack. One is the KTP-445A for use with compatible Alpine head units. The other is KTP-445U which is universal. In your case, you want to use the universal power pack. *Will it help? Well, it's an amplifier, so it's gonna boost the power going to you're upgraded speakers and improve your overall sound and volume. (if they're installed properly) *Do you need it? Yes, if you want to experience the actual benefits of an aftermarket speaker, but they'll still work without it. *Will it work with the factory radio? It will if you hook it up correctly. I should mention that some (if not all) factory radios have a pre-programmed EQ, so the factory speakers can sound their best. In other words, they give out a modified signal, unlike an aftermarket radio which gives out a pure, untouched signal. There's products to address that, like the JL Audio Clean Sweep for example. But you should still be able to connect an Alpine Power Pack directly to the factory radio without one. [ Gilberto  Mar 27, 2016 ]
It sure will.I was limited on space and this was a perfect fit and it powered up front and rear speakers which paired well with the 2 10 inch subs. The techs at Crutchfield are amazing.Enjoy the sound.--Marty [ MARTY R  Mar 04, 2016 ]
It's plug and play with the Alpine head unit I purchased. I do not know if it is compatible with your stock radio. The Polk speakers will add quality to your sound, it won't add power to your system. My guess is that the oem radio is sufficient to most needs. The alpine amp is just a booster, not a full blown unit. Most later model automobile sound systems already have an amp bigger than the Alpine unit. [ GARY  Mar 03, 2016 ]
This amp is specifically for Alpine receivers. It will not work with any other headunit. For a universal amp, try the KTP 445U amp. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP445U/Alpine-KTP-445U-Power-Pack.html [ TYLER  Mar 03, 2016 ]
If you bought the universal version of this it will work with a stock radio. You will need to dplice into the factory wiring. You can tell a big difference with this littke amp [ COREY  Mar 03, 2016 ]
Yes it will work. It is worth the money big time! [ BRIAN  Mar 03, 2016 ]
My understanding is there are two versions of the power pack. I bought the version that mated with my alpine head unit. You want the general version. It added just enough to my setup to be a satisfying blend with my subwoofer. [ Ronnie  Feb 27, 2016 ]
No. First of all; the Alpine KTP-445A model is for use with compatible aftermarket car stereos only. Unless you have a compatible Alpine, you'll need to use the KTP-445U model instead: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP445U/item.html This power pack offers "Speaker Level Inputs" so an external Line Output Converter is not required to get the audio signal into the amp. If you decide to add a subwoofer and the amp you select does not offer the speaker level inputs, you can use the Audio Control LC2i converter to supply signal (RCA) and remote turn-on for the amp: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC2I/item.html I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5 [ Ryan  Feb 01, 2016 ]  Staff
I am not sure. i bought mine to power a new Alpine receiver because it was definitely plug n play. I would check and see if they have a pioneer to alpine harness converter. At at the same time, i put the Alpine power pack in with the receiver, Crutchfield sent me a factory to alpine harness converter that made the receiver plug n play. Best i can offer. [ VINCENT E  Jan 08, 2016 ]
I don't think so alpine does not have the same connector Enter an answer to this question. [ MARK  Jan 08, 2016 ]
No it's a plug and play for alpine [ DAVID  Jan 08, 2016 ]
Just plug in and play [ ALEX  Dec 26, 2015 ]
I would contact a Crutchfield advisor. While I think it is designed take take in a high-level input and should work with any speaker output on a radio, Alpine says it is designed to work with certain Alpine head units from 2005 and later. Honestly, I think you'd be better off with an Alpine 4-channel amp that you can install under the seat. Most of them can take a high-level input and will have better performance than the Power Pack. With either type of amp, you still need to run a power wire from the battery, so I don't think you're saving anything by choosing the Alpine Power Pack. [ RICHARD  Dec 19, 2015 ]
Yes. Your receiver has 6 sets of pre-amp outputs and will work great with this amp. [ Jeff  Dec 04, 2015 ]  Staff

Amp does not get hot...and I have it stuffed in the dash of a jeep tj. Great product. Would recommend. As far as speakers, I always go with a company that only makes speakers. Such as Infiniti or Polk audio. That's my preference. [ LANCE E  Apr 07, 2015 ]
I installed mine in a 2008 F-150 and basically just laid it in the open space in the dash behind the CD receiver. I live in Florida and have experienced no issues with it in almost 2 years. Sorry, I can't speak about your impedance issue but it seems close enough to not matter. [ GLENN  Apr 02, 2015 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, the KTP-445A amplifier is compatible with the Alpine ILX-007 head unit. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Dec 05, 2014 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: No, you will not be able to use that particular model. You will need the Alpine KTP-445U (500KTP445U) to use with your Kenwood receiver. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. I have been told it can be used with any unit but it requires knowledge of which wires go to which point. Alpine used to make a universal amp just like this one that had open wiring [ JOEY  Nov 12, 2014 ]
You can make it work by way of a universal adaptor that crutch field sells [ JOE  Nov 12, 2014 ]
You would need the wiring diagrams for both. But it should be possible, maybe with an adapter. The size of it makes it really convenient to hide. [ BENJAMIN  Nov 12, 2014 ]
When I boug mine there were two different power packs. One works only with alpine units, the other works with any unit. [ PHILIP M  Nov 12, 2014 ]
Since I installed this over a year ago, I can't be for sure but I do not recall any form of channel adjustment on my model. [ RANDY  Sep 21, 2014 ]
There aren't any gain settings on the unit itself Travis. It's just a straight 45 watts per channel to your speakers. The best sound will be if you have speakers that are matched to that. Or closely matched. I bought an entire package from crutchfield which included four infinity speakers that are around that wattage. I prefer to always buy speakers from a company that just manufactures speakers. Infinity, Polk audio, Altec Lansing, etc. Hope this message helped. Lance [ LANCE E  Sep 21, 2014 ]
There are no adjustments settings on this amp. I will say that the default settings on this would be equivalent to a "high" setting on an amp that is adjustable. On my INE-S920HD head unit, before turning the head unit's gain to the lowest setting, the volume would max out at volume level 10 (the volume goes to 40 or 50). With the gain all the way down it screams at level 20. I am running this amp with eight speakers. 2 5" polk audio db501's per channel (8 speakers total at 2ohms per channel). This little amp is bomb proof, rock solid, and sounds amazing. [ TONY M  Sep 21, 2014 ]
yes you do. the unit plugs into the alpine wire harness from the head unit. I would recommend buying a head unit wih this power pack it all works exellent together. No running power wires, speaker wires ect. if you purchase a traditional style amp. Hope this helps [ CHRIS T  Sep 15, 2014 ]
No you do not you can either hard wire it to your receiver or buy an adapter plug the amp comes with directions on the wiring process that is very easy to understand [ JOE  Sep 15, 2014 ]
No I run it off a JVC receiver. [ DUSTIN J  Sep 14, 2014 ]
Nope, it has RCA type inputs for the preouts of any receiver. connects just like any other amplifier... [ PAUL  Sep 14, 2014 ]
Yes u need an alpine receiver to use this [ DEREK  Sep 14, 2014 ]
It only works with alpine [ DAVID  Sep 14, 2014 ]
Good Morning, My installation did not require any seperate wire to the fuse panel or battery. I connected the amp to the factory wiring and the stereo (apline) to the amp. pretty simple install. [ ALEJANDRO  May 03, 2014 ]
No, just plug it in and your fine [ JASON  May 02, 2014 ]
No I did not run a separate wire, the radio power is fused. I have not had any issues. [ KEVIN  May 02, 2014 ]
I'm confused in which fuse does the product overview refer to? Is it the 20A on instrument panel? or 10A on the Head unit fuse holder? [ ferdinan  May 02, 2014 ]

You will have to bypass the factory amplifier to use this product. See the product research section on this product's page at Crutchfield's website. [ RICHARD  Dec 19, 2015 ]
I would imagine the techs at Crutchfield could answer this better than I, but I believe you cannot connect amplifiers in tandem without some seriously advanced circuitry. The Alpine power pack should take care of your needs anyways, so go ahead and disconnect your factory amp. [ BRAD W  Mar 03, 2014 ]
I baught one and i unplugged the wiring harness from the back of the stereo into the powerpack and then the powerpack to the stereo. It cannot be any easier. [ VICTOR  Feb 28, 2014 ]
Hi David, I did not get to use this product. I bought it with the guidance of Crutchfield tech support and I feel I did not get the correct advise. when I bought the unit I gave the make and model of my car with some other details. Since I had done all the rewiring for the Alpine head unit before I was told that I could just plug it in line with my set up. What they overlooked was that I already had a factory installed amp. When I installed the power pack it blew out a couple of circuit breakers because both amps were on line. I disconnected the power pack and returned it and continue to use the factory amp with the Alpine head unit and it works great. Sorry I could not be more help. [ FELIPE  Feb 28, 2014 ]
U cannot run a 2nd amp in your truck. ...short of some really fancy wiring that a electronics engineer would have to do some head scratch'n. My 99 dodge with the infinity system was a bleedn nightmare trying to hook it up. Finally, I pulled the amps(located on the speakers) replaced everything w after market wires, speakers, head unit, and amp. The good news is, you will absolutely love the sound. Best of all my trucks is the alpine amp setup. Good luck JJ [ JACK  Feb 28, 2014 ]
I have an 07 gmc sierra classic. I'm going to purchase an alpine head unit to replace the factory radio. Will this power pack be compatible with my truck? [ robby  Apr 20, 2014 ]
