Digital technology that sounds perfect

Alpine's X-Power MRX-V70 5-channel amplifier uses the latest amp technology to play your music loud and clean without taking up much space. And this compact amp employs some of the same circuitry developed for Alpine's top-of-the-line PDX digital amps, so it'll bring exceptional sound to almost any ride.

One amp for your entire system

The MRX-V70 can take care of all four of your car's speakers and a subwoofer too. The 4-channel section puts out 60 watts RMS to each of your full-range speakers, so you'll have plenty of volume to fill your listening space with clear music. You can even use it in 2-channel mode to drive a pair of high-performance components with 180 watts each. Onboard frequency filters let you tailor the output to fit your setup.

Alpine's X-Power MRX-V70 5-channel amplifier

The bass channel

The MRX-V70 also features a fifth channel that'll pump out up to 350 watts RMS to your subwoofer. You can use the low-pass and subsonic filters to adjust the character of your bass, while a bass boost helps to fatten up the sound if needed. An optional remote lets you control the bass level from the front seat.

Keep the music playing

A power management system optimizes the amp's performance and keeps the music playing, even when you're pushing it hot and hard for a long time. Speaker-level inputs with an automatic turn-on feature simplify system hook-up.

Just Awful

george from Massachusetts on 12/15/2014

Mine was professionally installed in a brand new vehicle with all alpine Type R speakers. I'm 54 and listen to classical music so it wasn't pushed hard at all. First one lasted 2 weeks, second one lasted 6 months. The dealer (who sells a lot of Alpine) told me he's had nothing but problems with this model and offered to replace it with a better product at no additional charge so he wouldn't have to keep spending the time disassembling my car. Alpine replaces the old units with remanufactured units, of which there is no shortage because they never work for long. I can't believe Alpine actually puts its name on this thing. Crutchfield's standards are apparently higher as they've dropped it.

Pros: As an amplifier - None

Cons: As a paperweight - None

died twice in less than two years.

john m from melbourne, fl on 9/8/2014

This thing is the biggest piece of junk I've ever purchased. I will never buy an alpine amp again. The first time it lasted for6 months. Second time just outside of a year later and out of warranty. I am royally ticked. This is in my wife's car and she rarely pushes it past half volume and the gain is set neutral with no bass boost. I had a different amp for five years and it screamed every day. And it never died. Never even blew a fuse. I had a different amp that was cheap and it outlasted this alpine twice over. And my friend has an even cheaper amp that has been going strong for more than ten years in multiple cars. This series of amps will severely tarnish alpines image. Junk. Now I have to decide whether to pay for a repair or find another amp and a new mounting location.

Pros: Small, looks nice, sounded good while it worked

Cons: A waste of money and hunk of scrap. Not fit to wear ab alpine badge.

Works great, less filling

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great. nice compact clean unit for under the seat. Installed in 2012 Wrangler unlimited. With a cheap head unit (I listen to NPR or my iPhone - don't even know where my CD's are anymore) and upgraded speakers all installed in stock locations - sound is great ! a bit too much for the compact/shallow mount 8" sub - had to dial it back a little.

Alpine mxr v70

Cwtbass from S.C on 5/5/2014

Got this amp as a clearance open box floor display whatever. I have it running alpine s 6010 components, a pair of alpine R 6x9s, and a alpine bass line 10 sub. Pioneer deh x9600bhs head unit. So far so good got it for less than half it's asking price $149.99 or so works very well only problem was alternator engine noise coming through all speakers but after trouble shooting figured out bad ground now sounds just fine.

Pros: Got for a great price. It is small in size but will run entire system.

Cons: I've had it installed for only a couple weeks. Hopefully I won't have the problems others have had.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very disappointed in this product. First on did not work, second one worked for one month. Sent it into service twice. I can not believe that Crutchfield is still selling this amp after the other similar reviews. I have decided to purchase another amp and give this one to someone i don't like.

Pros: An excellent exercise in self-control.

Cons: I am very skeptical to purchase any other Alpine products.

5 channels. 5 stars.

Ali from Lexington, KY on 8/25/2013

Alpine is a brand that has not much to prove. Yes, it is more expensive, but you really do get what you pay for. The MRX-V70 is a very popular amplifier. 5-channel amplifiers really save a lot of money, time and space. There are compromises, but if you are not an audiophile (i.e., an avid listener) don't waste your money on expensive complex setups involving multiple amplifiers. The MRX-V70 delivers excellent sound if combined with excellent speakers and a subwoofer. This amplifier is meant for people who just want a good range of sounds without having to get a second mortgage on their house to pay for an super expensive car audio system.

Pros: Small, sleek design. Excellent material quality. Awesome sound amplification.

Cons: A bit pricy.

Marvelous Amp!

Tracy from Twin Cities area, MN on 7/7/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very clean sound. Sooooo clear and clean! Very enjoyable! Other components of my system are: Pioneer head unit, two pairs of Polk Audio db 6.5-inch speakers, and a Polk Audio MM 8-inch sub. This amp drives all speakers to their maximum RMS ratings. The sound never distorts. The amp fits very discreetly under the seat of my Dodge Dakota truck. I used a 4-gauge wiring kit as recommended. No electrical issues all. Sound runs consistently at all times. Extremely happy with this amp!

Pros: Size is perfect to fit under the seat. RMS watts for all channels is ideal for my speakers and sub, perfectly matched. And, can't say it enough, the sound is so clean!

Cons: None in terms of sound quality, but I had to pay extra for the remote volume knob for the subwoofer. I wish that had been included with the amp.

This thing is garbage. Cuts in and out for no reason. Sounds great while it works.

Pros: sounds good when working

Cons: doesnt' last very long,

Sounded good while it lasted

Dennis from San Jose, Ca on 6/30/2013

Mine lasted about 10 days before it decided to stop working . Sounded good while it lasted

Pros: Small, good sound , easy hook up

Cons: Bad quality

Sounds good

JeffLit from LA, CA on 6/20/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice, compact 5-channel amp. My head unit doesn't have pre-amp outs so the speaker-level inputs were a must. I also hooked an MP3 player directly into the RCA inputs so I can listen to either radio or MP3 now. Connected to two Pioneer 6x9s, two Pioneer 3.5s, and a JBL 8 inch sub. Sounds good, doesn't heat up, looks clean and black with just a simple blue light. Plastic covers help hide the wiring.

Pros: Sounds good, small, speaker level inputs, clean look, no heat.

Cons: Doesn't have RCA outputs for chaining to a second amp. The external bass control is an option not included with amp.

This amp lived up to all expectations. I Have all Rockford Fosgate components and this amp delivers clean sound to everything. The sub output driver my 10" shallow mount sub extremely well. The components door speakers sound excellent. I have turned the gain down and can crank to beyond listening levels without distortion.

Pros: Easy set up Great controls on Amp Easy to set-up Great power and sound Size is perfect for under the seat

Cons: Aboslutley non

works great!

Pros: great size! fit easy under my seat

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 2002 Chevy 3500 crew cab. Powering 4 Polk db651s 2-ways and the JL microsub with dual 8" w3v3's. Great little amp, and size makes it easy to put anywhere. read some reviews that said it failed early but 2 weeks after install, my buddy says its still jammin'!

Pros: size, price

Cons: none that i can think long as it keeps working!!

I like it

Lug1 from Bedford, Tx on 8/14/2012

I have a 2007 dodge quad cab. 4 Infinity Kappa aftermartket door speakers. 1 Rockford punch 12 classic circa 1995 that had never been hooked up to power until 08/12/2012. This amp rocks so far. No complaints crystal clear powerful highs and heart pounding lows. I don't dare crank it all the way up. Factory head unit goes up to 38 on volume it is WAY to loud for family cruising at 16. You can really rock out at 20-25. That is max, I get scared for my speaker life after that even though it is crystal clear to my ears. I can detect no distortion. Was everything I wanted and more. The other reviews scared me but I took a chance. So far so good.

Pros: I'm not a pro but pounding bass shakes the mirrors and my eyeballs. Crystal clear highs. Runs cool under my seat so far. Amazingly compact for power output. Does not clip at the volumes I have used(i've rocked out alone). Lot's of setting options. I tweaked it to my system perfectly and it complies easily.

Cons: Wish the sub remote knob was included. Seems silly to order it after the fact. Just up the amp price 20-30bucks. Can't think of anything else. I WILL ammend this review if it goes out or give trouble. This is only a couple of days into it.

Good entry level 5 channel Amp

EricK from Boston, MA on 6/19/2012

I installed this amp myself (having never installed an amp before) using a 4 gauge JL Wiring kit. I have not gotten to tune it but it has been working for about a week now without any issues. I have it underneath the cargo area of my vehicle and the temperatures have been in the 70s outside. I really have nothing to benchmark it against but it significantly improve my audio setup.

Pros: Great price for 5 channel amp.

Cons: None that I have found.

mine's working well too

Anonymous from Phoenix, AZ on 6/15/2012

I got mine hoping the ClassD would help it fair better through the Phx summer heat. Mines been running for several weeks and have had no issues. Pioneer x930bt, Infinity Reference 6x9, 6.5, 10 in sub in custom fiberglass box molded into the back corner of my 2011 Pathfinder

Pros: Extremely clear. tiny

Cons: a bit bright, but i need to sit down and tune it a bit.

works for me

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

does everything I want it to do. sounds very good installation was easy I was looking for an amp that was small so I could hide it easily had a fit in the small area so there's not much room for the amp to get air so that is why decided to go with the class D amp after reading the other review was kind of scared but it works great for me and again I like the price

Pros: Great for the price why spend the money if you don't have to Powers all my speakers and does a good job

Cons: only had it for two weeks so far so good

Same thing as above.

Patrick from San fran,ca on 6/13/2012

I am on #3 but am hesitant to install it because im afraid it'll only work for a short period of time. The way i have it installed means i have to completely take my truck apart to get it out, therefore, #3 will have to wait to get an answer from alpine. All wiring is perfect, yet it dies after about an hour or two of playing music. 1200 dollar kenwood 6990hd and ive been listening to headphones for the past week. Rubbish... Only reason im staying strong and not going to another amp is size of this one fits where i need it. Otherwise, id never buy another alpine again.

Pros: Zero so far other than size. Amd it makes a nice paperweight in the garage until alpine figures out the problem.

Cons: Horrible alpine customer service. Amd did i mention that the amp dies after an hour of use? Never to come on again?

go with something else

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this amp thinking its "Alpine" tried and true right. Well after the instal it worked for about an hr then it died. Well ok maybe it was wired wrong, maybe it was a bad amp. No biggie, I went to the Crutchfield store and explained my situation got another one and had it installed in a professional shop just in case I did something wrong. Worked great. for an hr. then dead. So I went back to Crutchfield and had them reinstall a 3rd one. And low and behold, it died. So i had them put in a JL amp and have been over the top happy ever since.

Pros: don't know did not work long enough to find out.

Cons: i spent a small fortune to find out i should have gone with something other than this alpine amp

MRX Amplifier Design: Class-D amplifiers boast higher efficiency, produce less heat, and draw less current than traditional Class-AB amps. The MRX series benefits from the technology trickledown from Alpine's more expensive PDX amps, including Direct FET final outputs, thermal management processor, 6-Layer Glass Epoxy PC Board; combining to create a high-end sound quality without the bulky heat sinks required by most amps in this power class.

STAR Topology: Alpine's unique STAR (Signal Transit for Accurate Response) Circuit PCB design provides a single common ground for all amp sub-blocks, preventing ground interference and minimizing internal noise.

Power Management Processor: The multi-stage Power Management Processor continuously monitors component temperatures throughout the amplifier and decreases power output if anything gets too hot. When playing music under heavy loads for long periods, the circuit automatically reduces power output slightly at first, and then further in a second stage if necessary. This two stage approach provides an interruption free listening experience.

CEA 2006 Compliant: The MRX-V70's power ratings are measured according to the Consumer Electronics Association CEA-2006 standards. These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging. The power output is measured from 20 Hz to 20 kHz using a 14.4 volt power supply with no more than 0.01% THD+N:

  • 4-ohms: 60 watts RMS x 4 + 250 watts RMS x 1
  • 2-ohms: 90 watts RMS x 4 + 350 watts RMS x 1
  • 4-ohm bridged: 180 watts RMS x 2

Signal-to-Noise: When measured under CEA-2006 conditions (reference 1 watt into a 4-ohm load) the signal to noise ratio is 87 dBA. Measured at the rated power output S/N is 104 dB for channels 1-4 and 110 dB for channel 5.

Verification Certificate: The amplifier comes with a certificate that lists the RMS power output measured from that specific amplifier. It also lists the model number, serial number, test date, and the test conditions (voltage and impedance).

Auto Turn On: When using the speaker level inputs the X-Power amplifiers automatically turn on when voltage is detected on the signal inputs, making them an easy factory system upgrade.

Low Output Impedance: With low output impedance, the MRX-V70 outputs tightly controlled bass, with a damping Factor rated at greater than 500.

LED: The top panel LED power indicator glows blue when the amplifier is turned on.

Gain: The MRX-V70's gain can be independently set for the front, rear, and sub channels. The line-level input gain setting is continuously variable from 200 mV to 4.0V (100mV to 4.0V for the sub channel); the speaker-level input gain setting is continuously variable from 500 mV to 10.0V (250 mV to 10.0V for the sub channel.

Input Switches: The amp has two input channel selector switches. One determines which set of inputs feeds the rear channels (3 and 4). You can set the switch to "1/2" or "3/4". The other switch determines which input channels feed the subwoofer channel. You can set the switch to "1+2+3+4" or "Sub W."

Crossovers: The amplifier has independent built-in crossovers for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels. The front and rear channels have a high-pass filter that can be turned on or off via a 2-way switch. The high-pass frequency is continuously variable from 50 to 400 Hz and the slope is 12 dB/oct. The subwoofer channel has an non-defeatable low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency that is continuously variable between 50 and 400 Hz and a slope of 24 dB/oct.

Subsonic Filter: In addition to the low-pass filter, the subwoofer channel has a non-defeatable subsonic filter, which cuts ultra low frequencies to minimize wasted power and protect speakers not capable of reproducing those frequencies. It has a variable cutoff frequency of 5-30 Hz and a slope of 24 dB/oct.

Bass EQ: Bass boost for the subwoofer channel is variable from 0 to +12 dB and centered at 50 Hz.

Power/Ground/Remote: The MRX-V70 features set-screw terminals for the Power, Ground and Remote Turn-on inputs. The Power and Ground terminals will accommodate up to 4 gauge wire, while the Remote Turn-on terminal will accept up to 8 gauge wire.

Speaker Output: The speaker output terminals are screw terminals which will accept up to 8 gauge wire.

Line Inputs: Line level RCA is the preferred input connection. There are three pairs of RCA line-level inputs. No line output is provided.

Speaker Level Input: Use the included speaker level input harnesses if the connected radio has no preamp outputs.

Fuses: The amp is protected by two chassis-mounted 30-amp ATO fuses.

Remote Bass Control (optional): Alpine's RUXKNOB wired remote (sold separately), connects to the amp's RJ-25 Remote Bass Control jack, and offers control of the subwoofer output level from the front of your vehicle. The linear attenuation can be adjusted from 0 to -20dB.

I don't think so, mine are diferent impedance, Two JL 8 inch Subs and 4 of Infinity 6 1/2 kappa. Work fine [ PATRIC  Apr 10, 2014 ]
I put only an 8" subwoofer in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler and I have all the bass I ever want or need. No issue at all with different ohmage. Hope this helps you. I have always relied on Crutchfield advisors for their input. I suggest asking them as well. [ WILLIAM  Apr 10, 2014 ]
Not that I know of. I have had my amp for a year now and the speakers and sub are running at different ohms with no problems at all [ AARON  Apr 10, 2014 ]
I checked with an Advisor and they stated: The L7 can take quite a bit more power than the Alpine amp is supplying. You are around 50% power and you would want at least 70% of the RMS power for the sub. The door speakers should be fine with the Alpine power. [ Krissy  Feb 20, 2014 ]  Staff
