Bass for your Wrangler

Whether you're on- or off-road, there's one thing that's missing from your Wrangler Unlimited: deep, accurate bass. Alpine's PWE-S8-WRA compact powered subwoofer installs neatly under your driver's seat so you can add bass without losing any space.

Compact design

The PWE-S8-WRA features an 8" sub powered by a built-in 120-watt amplifier, all housed in a compact enclosure which mounts under your seat with the included brackets. The package also includes plug-and-play wiring harnesses to connect this Alpine sub to the Wrangler's factory or aftermarket radio.

Bass control

You can adjust phase, gain, and the low-pass crossover to tailor the bass to your tastes. You can mount the sub's wired remote on your dash, so you can make easy level adjustments from the driver's seat.

Rugged enclosure

The cast-aluminum enclosure protects the sub and amp from rough on- and off-road conditions. It'll stand up to a thumping and keep on bumping. (Note: this sub only works with Wrangler Unlimited models without a factory sub.)

Features

Installation: The PWE-S8-WRA mounts to the bottom of the driver's seat in select 2011 and later 4-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models. The included T-Harness plugs in between the radio and factory harness, and supplies the subwoofer with power and speaker level input. The sub is grounded to a factory ground bolt in the floorboard.

Auto Turn-on: When using the included T-Harness to integrate into the factory speaker level signal, an automatic circuit turns the amplifier on when it senses an input signal.

Low Pass Filter: The amp has a built-in low-pass filter, variable from 50 to 150 Hz.

Wired Remote: Using the included wired remote you can easily adjust the bass output level from the driver's seat (or wherever you mount the remote). The range is 0 to -20 dB, relative to the gain setting on the subwoofer chassis.

Controls:

  • Gain: rotary control; 1.5-30 volts speaker level
  • Low Pass Filter: rotary control; 50-150 Hz
  • Phase: two position switch; 0° or 180°

  • Harness: the included 80" harness contains power (+12 volts), ground (ground lead is 24" long with a ring terminal), and speaker level inputs (left and right)
  • Remote: 3.5mm mini-jack for use with the included wired remote

Dimensions:

  • Width: 9.062" (10.982" including mounting brackets)

Q
Will this work with jbl club speakers 8622?
barbara  Oct 07, 2023
1 answer
A
This 2011 and up Jeep Wrangler specific Alpine PWE-S8-WRA would be a great paring with a JBL Club 8622 speaker setup, Barbara. The JBL speakers play crisp and detailed and are designed to be extremely efficient, and this Alpine subwoofer can anchor the low-end bass!

Q
Why does the blue LED power light stay on? I'm triggering the subwoofer with speaker line level inputs and have it connected directly to my battery with a 15A in-line fuse. The sub works great yet when I power down the head unit the blue power LED stays on and remains on. Is this normal?

If you purchased the subwoofer from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website. If you did not purchase the unit from Crutchfield, then you may want to contact the manufacturer.

Q
Does this sub have any water resistance?
micah  Jun 27, 2022

A
Greetings Micah, and thank you for your question. The Alpine PWE-S8-WRA, Jeep Wrangler specific subwoofer has no IP rating. As a matter of fact they recommend no mounting in a place that has a risk of moisture.

Q
Can I use this with an after market Radio with my Jeep 2017 unlimited? I kno wyou need to use RCA cables but I also read you may need to run an "amp turn on lead?" What is that and is that something I can purchase through Crutchfield.
mark  May 18, 2021
1 answer
A
Yes, you can run it with an aftermarket radio, I did. An amp turn on lead, is a wire that comes from the radio that has 12volts when the radio is turned on. This turns on the sub woofer. Some radios will have a wire specially for that purpose usually orange, or you could use the antenna wire usually blue. This blue wire is not for the antenna to get radio signals, but has 12 volts when the radio is on, to raise up a power antenna. You will also need to run a wire direct to the battery with a in-line fuse. You will want plenty of current/power available for the subwoofer.

Q
Can I use this to filter out low frequencies (bass) from the 4 main speakers?
russell  Sep 11, 2020
1 answer
A
No the amp has its own Filter for the bass frequencies coming out of it only. Your main speakers have to be controlled by your radio or their own amp

Q
Will this fit under the back seat?
richard  Jun 08, 2020

A
No, the brackets would not work and the wiring will be to short. It fits under the driver's seat very nicely. Not to complicated installation.

Q
ok, I have installed a new Kenwood ddx6704s and a clarion amp and a maestro idatalink into my 2018 JKU, can I add this sub and will this just plug in between the factory and maestro plug and work as it should?
jeffrey  Jun 17, 2018
1 answer
A
As far as I know, yes, that's all you would have to do. I'm not using a iDatalink Maestro, so I can't say with absolute certainty that it will but it plugs between the factory harness and the factory harness adapter that Crutchfield supplies for head units, so I'm assuming it would plug between the factory harness and the Maestro unit.

Q
Why this is $200 more than the non-Jeep version? It seems like a steep price to pay for a harness, two small brackets, a few screws and 15 zip ties.

Q
Maybe its my lack of Sub-woofer knowledge- but would putting it under the seat dampen the sound? I am so close to buying this because of the ease of setup with the harness , But I am afraid the sound will be distorted or rattling because of the placement under the seat.

With bass, you feel more than hear. And even mounted to the seat, it resonates throughout the entire cab.
adam  Mar 23, 2017

I have this subwoofer and it is easy to install, and sounds great, not muffled at all, the speaker aims towards the floor so the base comes out just fine, it will vibrate your but if it's turned up loud, also I do suggest hooking up the aux power wire and don't depend on the sense
eric  Mar 22, 2017
A
The deep sounds of a subwoofer don't need the direct line to your ear that the higher pitched notes need. This subwoofer is small in comparison to most so my initial fear was not enough sound. I have found the placement ideal, and the adjustments to both sub volume and crossover frequency (both are adjustable on this unit) take more time to dial in that the actual installation of the unit. After 3 months no issues. This thing is amazing and the best modification if you are keeping the stock radio.

Q
Will this fit under the passenger seat as well? I am thinking about running two of them.
brian  Mar 09, 2017
1 answer
A
To my knowledge, no. The two brackets are different. The inboard (transmission tunnel side) one is wider at the base which, if you have the creativity and materials, you could always mimic the brackets that come with the driver's side one and make some brackets for the other side. Unless you were running RCA's from an aftermarket head unit, you would probably run into impedance issues if using the high level (speaker level) hook up method and running two of the units. Also, if you were going to try to run two and had to make your own mounting brackets for under the passenger seat, it would probably cost a little less to simply get the non "WRA" version of the sub for the second sub.
jeremy  Mar 11, 2017
Q
How is this able to power without connection to the battery? Are there other units with this similar setup (not needing to run power to the battery, or is this one of a kind.
mark  Feb 17, 2017

A
The supplied harness (that attaches to the factory stereo for speaked inputs) also taps the factory stereo power circuit so there is no requirement to run a separate power wire to the battery.
adam  Feb 18, 2017
A
The unit has a direct connection to the plug and play adaptor that attaches between your head unit and the factory wiring. Super simple. The connection from the sub unit to the plug and play adaptor is fused, however I still had concerns about the factory fuse/relay being able to handle the added load. Reporting no issues even at high volume for extended periods. All is good. I have no knowledge of any other sub having a direct plug and play wiring harness like this. I appreciate not having to run the power wire through s firewall to the battery.

Q
Do they make this to fit a regular Wrangler?
jameson  Jan 28, 2017

A
I've only seen a version of the Alpine unit for the JKU (4 door). As you know, JK (2 door) front seat frames are different, as they swing forward to allow for rear passenger entry / exit, and it would be much more difficult to mount the sub to the seat rails as it does on the JKU. I'm not sure, but there also may not be sufficient room under the 2 door's seat frame due to the design of the frame to facilitate folding forward (a cross-member may be in the way, etc.).
