Upgrade with Alpine excellence

Choosing Alpine for your upgrade is like choosing chocolate at the ice cream counter — it's a classic for a reason. You can't go wrong with Alpine's undying commitment to quality sound and attention to detail, and their thunderous R-Series component speakers deliver the goods when your urge to crank the volume is unstoppable.

Component sound

This R-S65 6-1/2" component speaker system features a hybrid fiber woofer cone that satisfies your need for strong bass response. A deluxe surround allows consistent, extended cone movement that pushes a lot of air for high-impact sound and guarantees a long life in your car doors. And when it comes to the highs, a 1" separate silk tweeter brings on a level of smoothness that enhances your music with detail, depth, and no shrillness. Alpine includes a pair of external crossovers that are compact enough to easily stash away in most nooks or crannies.

Handles up to 100 watts

Alpine has designed these components to work perfectly with your car stereo, but they'll really come into their own when you power them with an outboard amp. Power handling up to 100 watts RMS ensures you can get big, dynamic sound and plenty of volume out of these sturdy speakers. So, prepare yourself for a no-regrets sound upgrade.

My Kenwood DDX9704S now has the great sound and clarity I've been looking for! I paired the R-S65S with the Alpine R-S69 6X9's and the JL Audio RD400/4 amp. My 2010 Camaro now has the sound that I can enjoy.

My Kenwood DDX9704S now has the great sound and clarity I've been looking for! I paired the R-S65S with the Alpine R-S69 6X9's and the JL Audio RD400/4 amp. My 2010 Camaro now has the sound that I can enjoy.

Pros: Sound and clarity. Great price. Buy a set and get the second set 1/2 off. Everything fit properly.

Speakers sound great. Only issue encountered is door is molded to fit 6x8" speakers so had to cut a slit on top and bottom of the speaker recess to accommodate.

Pros: Sound great. Comes with everything needed

Cons: Not an exact fit for this year/model of truck. Enclosures are fit for 6x8

The build quality is there but these just don't have much, if any, bass. I've come to the conclusion that I'll have to replace them with something different. I had the type S version before and I enjoyed those more. I use these with a sub and everything is amplified but they just don't do it for me.

Pros: *Good Highs *Handle plenty of power

Cons: *Bass response is very poor.

Tweeters not a perfect fit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The only reason it did not get 5 stars is because the tweeter does not fit properly in my 2018 Kia Sorento.if you enlarge the hole you can get the tweeter to press fit but the threaded ring is too large to fit at the back of the sail panel. Also extras ( screws and surface mount adapters) are hidden on the back side of the styrafoam box. I almost threw them out. The sound is good - not too much brightness in the tweeters.

Pros: Sounds good. probably better when my amp is fine tuned.

Cons: The tweeters are not a good fit for my SUV. Had to go with a press fit from the front for the surface mount..Locking ring will not fit behind the sail panel- too big. Extra parts are not inside the styrafoam box - easy to miss.

Worth it.

Not an audiophile but blown away by the difference these speakers made in my 2017 Jeep Wrangler. I actually look forward to getting in my car for the daily commute. Very clean sound. It was a fairly simple install.

Pros: Great sound, reasonable price.

Cons: None.

Great speakers, great quality at this price point. Alpines... what else do you need to know? I have these driven by 4 x 100 W JBL with a Kenwood head unit. These are up front, Alpine R co-ax in the back. Amazing sound quality, great highs, can feel the mids in your chest when really driving them all while crystal clear. Multiple mounting methods for the tweeters, look amazing flush mounted. Very clean install, most people didn't even notice the tweeters on my doors until the head unit booted up.

Pros: Excellent sound quality and clarity

Cons: None

Excellent speakers with some design flaws

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are excellent sounding speakers, but Alpine needs to make some design changes for the next model. PROS: The midwoofer uses a neo magnet design and is shallow enough to mount in just about any door cavity. The midwoofer produces enough midbass to compete with most other drivers in its class. The tweeter produces rich, crisp highs without being harsh or overpowering the midwoofers. (+1 for silk) Even though these speakers are conservatively rated to handle 100+ watts RMS, they are efficient enough to perform well with less. I have this set ran passive on a Rockford Prime 400.4 using the in-line crossovers for the tweeters. CONS: The tweeter housing and mounting accesories are made of cheap plastic. Be careful when installing because they will break easily. The in-line crossover is pretty basic and limits the user's abilities. Other drivers in this price range (Image Dynamics CXS, Rockford T2) have far superior crossovers. The speaker connections are thin and easily bent when attaching quick disconnects. Overall, these speakers were worth the price especially considering Crutchfields BOGOH deal. I paired these with a set of Alpine SR-68s in a 2010 Ford Fusion. The HPF is set at 125 hz at a -12 db octave for all 4 due to having subwoofers, but they sounded good all the way down to 80 hz. For low end, I have 2 Alpine SWR 1243s ran off a Rockford R1200-1.

Purchased these after listening to them against alot of high end brands. Audio Frog, hertz, focal, morel, all the big shots. on display these to me sounded the best so I installed them in my Cadilac CTS front stage. They are powered by an Arc Audio 5 channel so they see 85 W each per side .After tuning and adjusting the tweeters to -2, they sound amazing. These speakers sound very full, very loud, and super clean and very accurate. The mid bass these speakers put out is incredible, they punch out so bass my subs can now be just subs. I have been chasing sound like this since my old school MB Quart sound and I must say these speakers sound unreal. They are very loud when you want it and so so clean at the same time. I have speakers in my truck that cost twice as much, Morel, and I tend to enjoy these alpines even more. You will not be disappointed.

Pros: Amazing accurate sound. Mid bass is unreal, imaging is spot on.

Cons: Tweeters are a hair brite, but -2 on crossover and a bit off axis they sound perfect.

Too big for my doors; factory grills are no longer compatible and if I want a grill, I will have to figure out how to use the Alpine ones. Radio and CD player they sound fine; but Bluetooth and Pandora the speakers sound really soft.

Pros: Good speakers over all.

Cons: They don't fit my doors.

Great sound!

Features

Woofer Mounting: Although Alpine describes the woofers' size as 6-1/2, without adapter brackets the woofers fit many standard 6-3/4 applications. Using the two types of adapter brackets included, they can be mounted in a wide variety of 6-1/2, 6-3/4, 5x7, and 6x8 applications. Please enter you vehicle information to confirm fit.

HAMR Surround: Type-R speakers use Alpine's multi roll HAMR surround (patent pending), a technology developed for Alpine subwoofers that maintains control and stability at higher volume levels. HAMR surround combines increased cone area and long linear cone excursion for deep, powerful bass response.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come installed in a swiveling flush-mount housing. You can also install the tweeters behind factory grilles using the included stealth mount brackets. The stealth mount brackets can be top or bottom mounted. The installed tweeter dimensions are:

Flush Mount (swivel) Factory Location (bottom mount) Factory Location (top mount)
Mounting Depth 0.657" 0.756" 0"
Mounting Height 0.436" 0" 0.756"
Cutout Diameter 2.005" N/A N/A
Frame Diameter 2.277" 1.723" x 2.5" 1.723" x 2.5"

Crossovers: The R-S65C features low-pass crossovers attached to each woofer's input terminal and separate high-pass crossovers in-line between the woofers and tweeters. Because the crossovers are separate, the system can be bi-amped. Two-sided tape is included to mount the high-pass crossovers and their dimensions are:

  • Width: 2.475" (2.686" including wire)
  • Height: 0.96"
  • Depth: 1.27"

Tweeter Attenuation: Each crossover has four tweeter level options, allowing you to precisely tune the high frequencies to the car interior and tweeter placement. Using the supplied jumpers select 0dB (no attenuation), -2dB, -4dB, or -6dB.

They are the direct replacements for the discontinued SPR-60C so, the two models are more similar than they are different. They are still great speakers and use the same materials for both the midbass drivers (hybrid fiber) & tweeters (silk). [ Ryan  Nov 22, 2017 ]  Staff
Yes, I have them paired with an excelon 600 watt amp, however it is only driving 100 watts per channel. [ Kevin  Nov 05, 2017 ]
