Like it loud? Alpine designed their Type-R speakers for people who like to turn it up. They'll deliver big, dynamic sound with plenty of bass, and they'll handle lots of volume. They'll work great with your car stereo, but they really come into their own when you power them with an outboard amp.
The SPR-69 6"x9" speakers feature multi-layer hybrid fiber woofers that deliver really strong bass response. Alpine's adapted the specially ridged surround, originally developed for their subs, to these speakers, so you get consistent, extended cone movement that pushes a lot of air. The silk tweeters use a superior ring-dome design to produce smooth highs that bring out your music's detail and depth with no shrillness, plus they swivel to focus the sound better for your seating position.
Alpine uses powerful neodymium magnets which are much smaller than traditional magnets, so the SPR-69's high-density polymer frames will fit into more places than most 6"x9" speakers. Type-R speakers have earned their reputation in the past as the masters of "crank it to the max," but Alpine has really kicked the performance factor of the latest models up a notch or two.

Good sound. Fit 2012 Pathfinder perfectly.
I am very happy with these speakers. Even my boys commented how much better they were than the factory speakers. Easy to install and all the hardware was there.
Great price, and great sound!
Pros: Crystal clear sounds and great bass
Cons: None so far.
it is alpine you by the best you get the best
Pros: Easy to install with all the hardware included
Awesome. Now I just need to add an amp!
2014 Jeep Cherokee limited Installed these 6x9's in the front and rear doors. Perfect fit no fuss. Should fit 2013 - 2017 Cherokees as the doors are the same. Crutchfield says nothing fits except for 5 1/4" speakers which is absolutely not true. The back doors are very roomy but the front doors are shallow. these alpines are a perfect fit with it's small magnet. Sound fantastic while powered with an amp.
Pros: shallow mount depth, punchy bass, crisp highs
Cons: none found so far
I've been a Crutchfield customer and car audio enthusiast since the early '90s. Having been away from the scene for a few of years, I must admit, things have changed a bit. Some of the once made-in-the-USA brands we loved have long since moved overseas, and no longer command the respect they once did. Having been an Alpine fan as long as I can recall (anyone remember the Lamborghini ads?), I selected the Alpine SPR-69 to fit in the rear of my '99 Eclipse Spyder GSX, hoping Alpine had held up over the years. The opening is deep, but narrow, eliminating many popular 6x9 options. Also, I'm pairing these with a mint pair of old-school Polk Audio MM3065 separates in front, so I knew I wanted a silk dome tweeter, to possibly timbre-match the Polks. My first impression upon unboxing was that they felt flimsy and light. The baskets are composite, rather than stamped steel, and the neodymium magnet is tiny in comparison to most 6x9s. The small magnet is what makes these fit in tight quarters, however, and the cones felt fairly stiff. The rubber surrounds seemed durable and the basket seemed rigid as well. Reserving final judgement until after the install, threw in some Sublime to test them out. My initial impression of the sound is that these are well-balanced, the woofers punchy but warm and the tweeters buttery smooth. I'm surprisingly impressed with the SPR-69s. Looks can be deceiving I guess, so don't be put off if these don't resemble your old favorites from
Pros: Neodymium magnet fits in spaces others won't. Sound quality is rich, detailed and smooth. Excellent bang for the buck.
Cons: Feel a bit flimsy compared to speakers with traditional steel baskets and large magnets.
For some reason, All the speakers I want to put into my truck show up on this site as "does not fit". There is not even a option, like the double din radio I bought from this site that says "Modified Fit". My 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab appears to have oddball size openings. I figured out quickly that a spacer would easily solve the fitment issue for close to 99% of the 6x9's sold here. If you have a Jigsaw or a rotozip, all you need is some wood. I happened to of had some 5/16" composite board from an old entertainment center laying around. I took the back part of the speaker grill that comes with the SPR-69's and traced it onto the composite board. Then cut it out with a jigsaw. And just like that I had a spacer. You could probably use a thinner spacer, but I just used what I had. One minor con to this speaker is that it doesn't have the low pass crossover built in like the SPR-60's. I'm using a pair of CDT Satnet 450 passive crossovers feeding these SPR-69's and a set of SPR-10TW's, so I'm not too concerned about that, but I think it's worth noting. The sound from these speakers are amazing. I have them basically band passed at 60Hz to 4300Hz, and let the subs and tweeters do the rest. They have a good punch to them.
Pros: Great sound, don't distort, play very loud
Cons: no low pass on the woofer like the SPR-60's
Everyone knows Alpine for their Type Rs. Their name definitely carries weight in the car audio community and after buying these 6x9 Type Rs, I think I'll stick with Alpine to complete my system. Can't wait to see what else Alpine has for me in the future!
Pros: Great sound and low end! Easy installation and good ascethics.
Cons: None so far.
awesome sound great upgrade cant go wrong
Pros: direct fit easy install clear sharp loud
Picked up four of these (for front and rear) to go along with an Alpine deck and power pack amp (45Wx4). Installed these into a 2007 Dodge Caliber. Richness and overall sound quality has really exceeded my expectations. I knew going in these were high performance speakers, but once mated to some decent power, they absolutely come to life. I'm now questioning whether the sub and amp that came from my last vehicle is even needed since the bass these things put out is so strong when running at full range.
Pros: Incredible tone and richness Prodigious base output Great power handling
Cons: Price. For $199, I know your getting into the top tier of a products line up. However, would still like to see these priced a bit lower. Believe the 135-150 marks would be a best fit.
Great speakers! I picked up more clarity and deeper bass.
Pros: Good sound quality
Cons: None as of yet
these speakers are just what I expected and more from alpine, solid ,tuff, and sound great. git u some. you"ll be glad you did.
Pros: well built, solid and tuff.
Cons: can only use one pair in my truck
theyre in my 02 civic coupe. amazing without an amp. I had originally bought the Rockford fosgate primes and those were god awful. so I called and spoke with someone and they recommended these. sure the price is steep but the sound and quality of the product is top notch.
Pros: sound, quality, fit
The mounting depth of these is almost identical to the stock 6 x9's that are in Ram 1500 pickups that have 6 x 9 stockers. Crutchfield says they won't fit But they went in with no problems, added a ton of dynomat and these speakers rock.Size wise don't rethink it they are nearly identical to the factory installed 6 x 9's
Pros: *Sound great, *power handling, *mounting a breeze. every Ram 1500 owner should have these in the doors.
Cons: highs in the rear doors are muffled.
I bought these speakers and loaded them into some sound ordnance bass bunker boxes which I also bought from Crutchfield. The sound was impressive! I had these speakers teamed up with pioneer deh-80prs and old school fosgate 160a2 which puts out 40x2 rms and the speakers sounded great! I then replaced the fosgate amp with a old school zed built lanzar optidrive 200.2 which puts out 100x2 rms power and all I can say is, wow!! These speakers really came alive when given the power that they craved! The speakers played much louder and the bass was much stronger. As mentioned before by other reviewers, make sure you give them the power they want to sound best.
Pros: Crystal clear highs and punchy bass
Cons: None yet
Installed in a '08 Nissan Xterra. Hardly any distortion @ max decibel volume. Can't wait to add an amp!
Pros: Easy install. High quality components.
Cons: None to speak of.
I installed four of these 100W rms 6X9s in my 2001 Cadillac Seville STS. The car originally came with the Bose surround system featuring seven speakers and a factory sub. I disconnected all of the speakers (including the sub) and replaced each of the four door speakers with an Alpine 6X9. So now I have four of these Alpines, one in each door, powered by a 100W rms X 4 channel Rockford Fosgate Prime amp. All I can say is unbelievable! Super clear, man these speakers sing! completely blew away the factory Bose system. Run 100W rms through these speakers and they hit hard! The base is unbelievable. If you want to add a sub, you better get a good one with a seperate high power amp or you wont be able to hear it over these 6X9s.
Pros: Heavy duty power handling capability. Tight hard hitting base when hooked up through a 100W rms amplifier. Super clear awesome sound quality. Brings your music to life, on a whole new level.
Cons: None I can think of.
Stellar highs and bass. Clean at high volume!
Awesome sounding speakers in pairing with a Kenwood Amp, and JL Audio sub!
Pros: Great sound! Easy to install.
Cons: The rear tweeters were so much more pronounced with the passenger seat removed. Just had to adjust levels with the seat back in.
These 6x9 are phenomenal, absolutely blew me away, tight bass and great mids and highs!!!
Pros: Hasn't broken yet.
Changed some old Bostons out with these and the improvement was amazing. For smaller depth speakers these blew the old Boston's out of the water.
Pros: Easy installation
outstanding performance at the high end. I believe I will add an amp to muscle out even better performance.
Pros: installer said it was easy to do
I purchased these for my rear deck in a 99 honda civic. The vehicle fit guide was right on, great fit, no modifications, only slightly heavier than my old factory cones. No I am truly immersed in amazing surround sound paired with the spr-60c set up front. These speakers are clean, clear, and beautiful!
Pros: Directional tweeter, factory like fit, great SQ!
Cons: They aren't made by JL Audio?!?!
These fit my 1981 Vette with no alterations. Sound is great and handle 45 watt per with no problem.
Pros: Sound perfect, fit with no alterations.
Cons: Cant hear the big V8!
Sound great. Typically install no surprises.responds well as a full range speaker.
Pros: Sound is great. Handle power well.no surprises.
Great speakers at a affordable price. Specially when completed with the Imprint System from Alpine.
Pros: Terrific sound and easy to install
good sound and value for price
Speakers blow you away
I got these speakers for my 2009 Dodge ram as an upgrade from my stock 6x9's. i was looking for something that i could put an amp too eventually. i was looking around and i decided on the Rockford Fosgate punch 6x9. i went in to my favorite dealer and heard them, they sounded pretty good. then the recommended these Alpine type R. he compared them and wow there was a difference with and without the amp. i installed these in only my front door so far and already my little pioneer HU is making them sing. if you listen to the stocks in the back compared to the front it is amazing what a good pair of speakers can do. i plan to do my backs this weekend. i would recommend these to anyone.
Pros: all parts came with it, easy to install, Sound Amazing!!
Cons: non at all
Excellent speakers that I'd have done well to install in my doors as well as the rear. The 5" component ones I put in the front just aren't a match for these.
Pros: Does pretty much everything I was looking for out of them.
I grew up in the 70's and 80's building car stereos - where bigger magnets meant more powerful speaker motors and better sound. Okay, so I'm probably older than most of you; however, I still like good sound. My daily driver, a mid 90's Pontiac, was in need of a new head unit and so I opted to replace the factory 6x9's (paper construction, cloth surrounds and whizzer cones) in the back at the same time. These Alpine speakers are a huge improvement over the factory speakers -- nice base, much improved high end and very musical. They are a great match for the 18w/channel CDE-149BT. I agree with all of the others who gave these speakers a five star rating.
Pros: Lightweight, easy to install (especially with the connectors provided by Crutchfield); great sound; moveable tweeters; reasonably priced.
Cons: Pretty limited tweeter movement -
Alpine is a great speaker line the clarity and the manufacturing is great. I would suggest them to anybody looking for durable quality speakers.
Pros: These speakers seem strong and durable and carefully manufactured.
Cons: They don't put out a quality bass on their own the highs are nice though.
Awesome speakers. You will not be disappointed!!!
Pros: Awesome sound. Need power though!
Great all around speaker for loud volume, good bass and still suprisingly decent clarity
Pros: Great Speaker, Great performance
On my Honda Accord I had the SPR-69 on the rear deck and the SPR-60 on the frontdoors. I have a Pioneer FH-700BT head unit with the MRX-F65 (650 watt) 4-channel amp. Each channel delivering 110 watt RMS. I thought they sounded great w/o an AMP on my Pioneer head unit. I then added the MRP-F300 (300 watt) amp just to see the range of the speakers. I realized that was not enough power since at high volumes I could hear slight clipping on the speakers. I upgraded my amp to the Alpine MRX-F65 and whoa nelly! These little 6x9 speakers sound fuller and the bass is rich. I can't go beyond 20 out of 50 on my dial without the trunk rattling. The doors rattle, rearview mirror shakes, trunk-lid womping at 30! No distortion, no clipping. Just keep in mind that the Type-R speakers are power hungry so if you plan to go big with these speakers get an adequate AMP. 100RMS with 300watt peak.
Pros: very full range, rich midbass
Cons: power hungry
I bought these in order to replace my rear JBL's In a 2001 Solara. They are worth the price. The bass produced be these speakers sound like I have a sub woofer. They are clear and loud. I just recently purchased an alpine KTP-445U amp to power these. I'm installing it today so I'm sure they'll sounds twice as good as they do now.
Pros: Great sound! Great Bass!
I recently installed these babies in my accord and let me say they are amazing. They are crisp, but deliver tons of bass. I am using a pioneer 600wattrms 4 channel amp and maybe pushing ~50 watts rms to each speaker. These 6x9's are well worth the money! Using these along with the SPR50c
Pros: Crisp clear sound, loud bass.
Cons: Had to adjust and keep the rms low as it rattles a piece in my trunk, dynamat is a possible solution.
I recently replaced the factory speakers in my Honda Accord with these Alpine's, and have nothing but good things to say about them. The bass is tight, the highs are clear and the overall punch of these rear speakers is amazing to my ears. I am completely satisfied with their performance.
Pros: Tight bass, clear highs, and impressive punch.
Cons: Considering that I don't have an amplifier, or listen to my music at insane volume levels, I don't have any cons to speak of.
They work very well. Handle a wide range of sound with ease.
These speakers sound awesome, almost makes me regret getting jl audio for the front. The higbs are good, but the mid and bass levels are even better.
Pros: Nice punch bass with no distortion.
Cons: The sound overpowers all of my other speakers....putting my fader to use for the first time.
these speakers can produce some good bass!!! really clear too. They replaced a pair of HERTZ 6X9 speakers which reallly I had strong doubts, they would beat or match - but they did!!!! great speaker for the money. The fact that they are not as heavy as the Hertz are a real plus since I have them installed on the lids of my Harley and weight is an issue.
Pros: Light in weight, great price for a speaker that can play at the level of a $400 speaker
Cons: didnt really find one
Maybe the stock speakers were just that poor and you get used to that. These sound light years better.
These speakers are great. I love them. I have them paired with a rockford fosgate amp that pushes 88 watts rms. WOW im so glad i invested in these speakers. They were good when i had them hooked up to my stock head unit but they really came alive. They scream. Im thinking i push 100 SPL with these. But i dont know for sure because i dont own a sound meter.
Pros: Sound great., easy to install and for the price they sound great!!!! (They sound good when powered by a head unit but come alive when powered by an amp)
Cons: I had a model year previous to these ones. Blew the tweeter in one somehow but crutchfield took care of the warranty and didnt give me any issues. Also i wish that i could see the grills because they are cool.
I installed this in my '07 Dodge Caliber's rear doors (no boston accoustics). At first I installed a pair of Orion XTR 693 in the same doors. The difference in sound is amazing. More powerful bass, and clearer mid and highs. Since the SPR-69 has a smaller magnet it installed easier. I did have to replace four of the original mounting screws (the grey screws, since they are too thick) with the screws that came with the SPR-69's. I also bought baffles for this bad boys, however the plastic door trim and power window rails in the car got in the way of the baffles, so if you have a caliber like me don't get any baffles.
Pros: Easy installation and much better sound quality.
Cons: Price ( I think it's a little bit too expensive).
Chris in technical support helped me a great deal with the installation of the radio and speakers. He solved my problem with the Alpine receiver with insufficient electrical power. Superb... above and beyond. Thanks Chris.
by far of the BEST speakers sound is unREAL

Woofers: The Alpine Type-R series coaxial speakers feature multi-layered hybrid fiber woofer cones. For durability and superior linearity, the woofers use rubber surrounds.
HAMR Surround: Type-R speakers use Alpine's multi roll HAMR surround (patent pending), a technology developed for Alpine subwoofers that maintains control and stability at higher volume levels. HAMR surround combines increased cone area and long linear cone excursion for deep, powerful bass response.
Swiveling Tweeters: The speakers are equipped with 1" (25mm) silk dome tweeters. Alpine's EQ Ring improves the tweeter's dispersion characteristics, providing excellent off-axis response. You can also tilt the tweeters up to 15° to focus the sound where it should be, not pointed at your feet.
Neodymium Magnet: The new smaller neodymium magnet on the Type-R series allows the speaker dimensions to be smaller, making them easier to install in a wide variety of vehicles. They are also lighter than designs using standard magnet technology.
HD Polymer Frame: The new Type-R speakers use a revolutionary HD Polymer frame, making the speaker stronger, lighter, and easier to install.
Mounting: Using the included brackets, the SPR-69 can be bottom mounted.

The small terminal is the negative. [ DAVID Apr 21, 2015 ]
Crutchfield includes vehicle-specific adapters for many vehicles (that's what I opted to do) it comes with spade connectors on one end for connection to the speakers and your car's speaker connector on the other -- that said, you ask a great question, the owners manual doesn't provide any guidance. My belief is that the small terminal would be negative or ground and the larger terminal would be positive. The good news, if the markings aren't on the speaker terminals themselves, is that you can always test this by ear: what your listening for is the combination that gives you the greatest bass oomph -- the one that sounds fuller and deeper is right combination. If the polarity is reversed, bass will sound weak. [ EEWdad Apr 21, 2015 ]
