Overview

Our take on the Alpine SWE-1041

A little bit of money and a whole lot of bass — that's the story with the Type E subwoofer! Alpine's most affordable line of subs uses a responsive pulp cone reinforced with Kevlar® for strength and durability. The heavy-gauge, custom-stamped steel frame is thick to withstand the demands of hard playing. A bumped back plate keeps the sub from bottoming out, so you'll hear only "bump" from the bass! A high-excursion Santoprene rubber surround allows the most travel for powerful low-frequency response.

The Type E SWE-1041 10" subwoofer works great in sealed enclosures. Vented boxes can also be used for a bigger, boomier sound.

Cheap price good subs. Got two, put them in my truck and let the bang start. Put a JL mono amp on them and there holding up.

Great choice for the money!

PhantomAce from Grand Rapids, MI on 4/11/2005

This is definity a great subwoofer for the money. Very powerful and hits hard. My compliant is even with the amp filter all the way on, The subs project to much vocal/mids, giving a muffled output from the box. Otherwise they sound great in the car. You wont have to worry about not hearing these once there juiced up =)

Cheap bang

Awsome Deal! Boom for the buck...and I do mean Boom!

Donald from Savannah, GA on 4/9/2005

These things sell for about $100 each. I bought one of these for $90 and got one free from Crutchfield. Can't find more boom for the buck. I installed two of them in my SUV with a 1200W Sony Explode amp. A word of warning...if you happen to throw a penny on these things when they're thumpin', protect your eyes!

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-E subwoofer has a Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. There is also an oversized inverted dust cap of the same material, which increases rigidity and virtually eliminates distortion at extreme volume levels.

Santoprene Rubber Surround: The high-excursion 3/4" Santoprene rubber surround is durable and resistant to the elements, resulting in a very reliable performance. The surround is specially designed to resist deformation that is common in most woofers with wide surrounds. This design gives the surround more control over the woofer cone to reduce distortion and possible driver failure.

Dual Progressive Nomex Spiders: This subwoofer has dual progressive Nomex spiders for added stability and mechanical durability. The custom progressive rolls gives the woofer a longer, more linear stroke with maximum centering and restoring force. Special edge control design and Nomex construction provide excellent tear resistance, strength and long-term reliability. The tinsel speaker leads are integrated into the top spider.

Custom High Strength Steel Basket: The frame is custom stamped from high strength steel.

Bumped Back Plate and Extended Vented Pole Piece: This woofer combines a bumped back plate and an extended pole piece, giving it a nearly 1.5" peak-to-peak cone excursion. This extra long cone movement provides a higher bass output.

Enclosure Compatibility: This woofer can provide extended bass in sealed and ported enclosures (please see the "Enclosure Compatibility" section for more information on the recommended enclosures).

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 0.6 cu/ft to 1.25 cu/ft.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: The ported box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 1.0 cu/ft to 1.75 cu/ft. No port sizes are listed by the manufacturer.

Manual Corrections

Frequency Response: The manual lists the frequency response as "Fs-1kHz" (Fs=Free Air Resonance frequency). According to Alpine, the actual frequency response is 30Hz-1kHz.

Recommended Enclosures: The manual only lists the recommended sealed box volume range. The ported box volume recommendations were obtained directly from Alpine.
