Advanced materials

The SWS-10D4 can handle up to 500 watts of RMS power, so you can drive it hard and it'll keep up. The tough 10" Kevlar® treated cone stays rigid under pressure, while its rubber HAMRS surround allows for maximum excursion. Its dual 4-ohm voice coils allow for wiring flexibility which helps if you plan on adding another subwoofer down the line. Also, it rocks in both sealed and ported boxes, so you can choose an enclosure that suits your tastes.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 375 and 750 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I haven't installed this yet. However, I must give high praise to the tech support guys at Crutchfield. When my speaker arrived the glue around the woofer was pulling apart. A quick phone call to Crutchfield and they immediately sent out a new one. Even before shipping the old one back (completely unheard of from any other retailer).when the 2nd one arrived if had the same issue with the glue not being secured around the woofer. When I contacted Crutchfield again the tech was very supportive and attentive with the issue. He was able to hook up with my iPad and look at the speaker himself. Kinda like face time. He put me on hold while he immediately discussed this Issue with a supervisor and then stated they believed this was a factory defect perhaps with the whole lot # they received. He said they will personally go and open the box and inspect it to make sure there is no other issues. They immediately sent out the new one again (after inspection) without requiring the return first. They told me to make sure everything was to my satisfaction upon arrival of the new one before returning anything. You do not get this type of customer service ANYWHERE !!!. I'm a little nervous with the sub do to the issues with quality but am still gonna take a chance with it due to the normal quality of Alpine products. Hopefully it was just a fluke. I will never buy any stereo equipment from any other retailer. I am a customer for life.

2016 Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this sub based off of these reviews. I have a 2016 Ram 1500, with 8.4 Nav and Alpine Crap upgrade, and I had it installed underneath the back driver's side seat in a ported Foxbox. It's pushed by the Kenwood KAC-7005PS at 500 watts @ 2 ohms. I was leery of purchasing another Alpine sub because the stock sub was so weak. I was amazed at how strong this bass was and how well it kept up. For rock and rap this sub will give you the strong/steady bump you're looking for. You can push this sub hard and it does not lag.

Pros: On target, price, rock/reggae solid

Cons: N/A

Amazing sound!

JMZ from California on 9/10/2016

I have two 10" Alpine type S in a Sound Ordnance dual ported box purchased here on Crutchfield. I'm feeding each one true 550rms watts and wow, they hit hard and loud. I originally had these in a sealed box and that sounded sweet but boy in a ported box they are simply amazing. I've been buying from crutchfield since 1996 and their customer service has always been superb! Thank you Crutchfield for years of quality products and exceptional service!

Great Sub

Chaz from Fl on 2/14/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just simply a great sub, I have it in a sealed enclosure and the bass tone is really nice, it can bump rap, and play rock bass exceptionally well. I am running a 500W Alpine amp with a second battery to power my system, and it really has impressed me.

Pros: Sound Quality

Cons: None

Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Ty from Logan, UT` on 2/3/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing is fantastic. It has excellent sound quality and packs a serious punch. I've got it running at 2-ohms with about 600 RMS and I can't believe how loud it gets but still crazy accurate (obviously tuning the amp is important too, both are essential). I installed this into my own box, and I was really impressed with the build quality. It is solid and very well designed. I 100% recommend this to anyone who wants loud accurate bass without the rumble of larger subs.

Pros: Very well built, incredible sound quality, great price, easy to install.

Cons: I didn't buy this sooner!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I listen to some heavy rock and roll and this sub, which I upgraded from a shallow loaded sub, not only blew me away, but exceeded my expectations. It handles the double bass drums with ease. I purchased this product from the scratch and dent section and it looks perfectly fine like brand new.

Pros: Bass hits nice and tight, looks high quality and performs like it.

Cons: none so far

truly amazing

So I wanted a decent pair of 10s to put some clean base in my car and oh wow I got more than I bargened for. I have them on very low settings because they bump so hard. I can't belive thay they are not the top of the line modles.

Pros: These are definitely a good pair of subs. Probably a step up from entry-level subs. If you want a decent system and not a wall mart or best busy system look no further. Your new subs are only a few clicks away.

Cons: None

Easily one of the best sub's I've had the chance to buy. Defiantly recommend

Pros: Bass hits nicely when your looking for tightness, or when your looking for that extra thump.

Excellent Subwoofer!!

BoydK from Jefferson City, MO on 1/29/2015

These are very well made subs, built to last. I'm 18 and wanted a quality system so i got these. I have pushed these sub woofers to the max, and sometimes probably too hard, but without a doubt they handled it with no problems! These are the best subs you can buy for the price. And the power they bring is insane! Powerful bass and super clean. If you don't want things in your car to rattle and make noise, then don"t get this. These are serious sub woofers for people who are serious about high quality.

Pros: Powerful and high quality bass - Handles abuse - Doesn't take up to much space - Long lasting

Cons: Trying to silence the things it rattles

The little sub that could...

RubenN from Los Angeles, CA on 3/4/2014

It had taken me months to plan out the type of system in my 2004 Kia Optima. I went through countless articles and write ups on sealed vs ported, 10 inch vs 12 inch and even building my own box. I wanted a sub that would compliment my music of choice (Hip Hop and bass-centric electronic music) and took up a smaller footprint in my trunk. I had previously owned an L5 Solo-baric Kicker sub and I had always made comparisons with this sub with a sealed enclosure. I had been partial through this whole time and initially felt the Alpine wouldn't satisfy my needs. Their previous subs from the Xplod line looked tacky and of a lower quality build. I ultimately decided to go with a single 10 inch Alpine type S in a ported box with an MTX Thunder 500.1 mono amp. This combination is just one word. LOUD. I am thoroughly impressed with the clarity and the overall "boomy-ness" of the system. I have had this cranked nearly all the way up and the distortion is minimal with my amp setup. This sub can hit some low notes HARD. I believe this comes from the box amp/setup instead of brand choice. This is my first sub install I have completed myself and I feel I need to tune the settings a little more to my liking. I am completely satisfied with my choice and would look to Alpine and Crutchfield again!

Pros: - Small Design - Can handle large amounts of power - The build of the sub feels of higher quality

Cons: None

Best money i ever spent. The bass has a great punch and the door speakers which are alpine as well came to life after adding the F-300 ALPINE AMP Thanks for the help from Ziggy and the Crutchfield advisor team. Excellent!!.

Small but mighty

Alpine67 from California on 10/8/2013

Man this sub blew my mind. After having a 12" type r, I wanted something a little bit quiter. The type r would completely move my rear view mirror. I expected this sub to hit softer and soud better, but this thing hits hard! The sound quality is also amazing. Connected to my alpine 500 watt amp people would ask me what I had and they would be amazed it wasn't a 12. This sub is very durable, as are all products made by alpine.

Pros: Hard hitting, very clean sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. This sub really suprised me with how well it sounds for the price. I have it set up with a 500 watt alpine amp and this system sounds much more clear and hits almost as hard as my friend's system with 2 12" kicker subs. I couldn't be happier with this purchase and Crutchfield is the only place I go to for electronics.

Get what you pay for and then some

Zakkius from Minneapolis, MN on 1/10/2013

I was a little worried that in buying a cheaper subwoofer than I wanted, I was going to be regretting it after the install. Boy was I wrong. I am using a JVC Arsenal head unit with good preamp outputs and a monoblock amp by MB Quart, and this rattles the crap out of my small 2005 Focus. I will need plenty of Dynamat in the future. Made a super easy sealed enclosure with a friend and this subwoofer is super clean. Would recommend if you are on a budget but still want great equipment. The only thing I noticed right away is that it couldn't hit the really low basslines (but that is to be expected since it is only a ten inch).

Pros: Cheap, Sounds great, Looks nice, Solid construction

Cons: Couldn't hit the really low notes

WOW!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Paid more than my RF Prime (twice as much) bug it is more than worth it. This sub is amazing. Built solid and hits hard as well as being able to hit the lower notes (down to 28hz). I have it hooked to a Kenwood mono block amp with 350w rms and 1000w peak. Perfect set-up. Great sub

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-S subwoofer uses a parabolic cone structure, with a Kevlar reinforced pulp cone and a Poly-Mica dust cap. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. The oversized, inverted poly-mica dust cap increases rigidity and virtually eliminates cone distortion at extreme volume levels.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of Santoprene, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive Conex spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature, 6-layer dual voice coils offer power handling up to 500W RMS / 1500W Peak (250 watts RMS per coil).

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8-ohm load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2-ohm load) or series (for an 8-ohm load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Alpine recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume between 0.54 and 0.89 cubic feet, with an ideal volume of 0.54 cubic feet. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 0.79 cubic feet to 1.34 cubic feet, with the ideal size being 1.04 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 10" (W) x 1" (H) x 18" (L).

I'm thinking it would not. Not a big problem though. I had a single cab pick up truck with my smaller 10" box that the JL Audio10WXv2-4 would not fit in.
