You'd like to fit a monster subwoofer in your pickup or compact car, but you just don't have the room. Alpine's got the solution for you. The Type-S SWS-1223D 12" subwoofer stands only 5-1/16" tall, so you can fit realistic bass in tighter spots without giving up an ounce of sound quality.

Alpine starts with a one-piece pulp/glass fiber cone, reinforced with Kevlar® for uncompromising strength and accurate response. The tapered Santoprene™ rubber surround extends cone excursion and improves dynamics, so you can rock your Type-S subs without fear of a blowout. Advanced engineering gives you top performance while shaving 1-1/2" from the mounting depth of their previous Type-S 12" subwoofer.

Alpine builds the speaker leads into the spider, so they can't shake loose during extreme cone movement. A network of cooling vents reduces heat-induced distortion, so you can push your music and leave the meltdown worries behind. The dual 2-ohm voice coils give you more options for tweaking your bass, whether you're looking to wire up a multi-sub system or draw more power from your amplifier.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most 2-channel car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation. Most mono amps are stable down to 2 ohms.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Cone: This Alpine Type-S subwoofer has a Parabolic Glass Fiber and Kevlar reinforced Pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design.

Santoprene Rubber Surround: The high-excursion Santoprene rubber surround is durable and resistant to the elements, resulting in very reliable performance. The surround is specially designed to resist deformation that is common in most woofers with wide surrounds. This design gives the surround more control over the woofer cone to reduce distortion and possible driver failure.

Screw Cover Gasket: The woofer includes a rubber gasket to cover the screw holes for a clean look. If the gasket isn't installed, the mounting height is only 0.75 inches.

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: The SWS-1223D features dual 2-layer voice coils which utilize 180°C high-temperature wire and a glass fiber former. Dual voice coil woofers offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1 ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4 ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 2 ohm load.

Spring Posts: The woofer has two pair of spring posts which will accept pin connectors, banana plugs, and up to 8 gauge bare wire. All four speaker terminals are located on one side of the woofer to make it easier to connect the woofer in a parallel or series configuration.

Wire Jumpers: The woofer is equipped with two 3" speaker wire jumpers with banana plugs on both ends. These jumpers allow you to wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 1-ohm load) or series (for a 4-ohm load).

Progressive Nomex Spider: This subwoofer has a progressive Nomex spider for added stability and mechanical durability. The custom progressive rolls give the woofer a longer, more linear stroke with maximum centering and restoring force. Special edge control design and Nomex construction provide excellent tear resistance, strength and long-term reliability. The tinsel speaker leads are integrated into the spider.

Steel Basket: The high strength custom steel frame is vented around the perimeter for extra cooling.

Bumped Back Plate and Extended Vented Pole Piece: This woofer combines a bumped back plate and an extended pole piece, giving it a 2" peak-to-peak cone excursion. This extra long cone movement provides a higher bass output. The vents and dual flared design of the pole piece maximize airflow around the voice coil, giving it a more reliable performance.
