I have this on my boat..I'm literally 3-4 feet away and the Bluetooth cuts out. No other Bluetooth device has this horrible of a range. Would not recommend.
Cons: Bass control is a little confusing at first.
First impressions are good - everything works and I expect long lasting quality from Alpine.
I absolutely love this unit. I got a Kenwood from Crutchfield and within a week sent it back and got this instead. Great simple design that just flat out works.
Pros: great simple design easy to use
Bought this for my 94 Sentra. I have always like alpine and this one is no different. The price attracted me on this unit. I don't think you could find a cheaper quality radio. No CD player. Who cares. Nobody buys cds anymore. Everyone uses their phone for music anymore. Great buy
Always an Alpine fan. Very pleased with this head unit. I am just using it as an upgrade to the factory radio, but very please with the options I can utilize in the future.
i have 2 of these. they sound great. and very easy to use. the Bluetooth is really good. it always connects quickly.
Pros: bluetooth is quick to connect
Love it. Alpine is the best head unit i have ever used.
Absolutely cannot beat the deck for the price. Very clear Bluetooth. I now have purchased 4 of these.
Fantastic head unit for the $$! I really love being able to tune the sound through my phone app...would be better if it did the tuning via Bluetooth instead of with cable and USB. Clear sound and great features!!
Great upgrade from the stock radio. Blue tooth and Pandora features work great. Instructions from Crutchfield made the installation process simple.
Back to basics. Easy to use. Made my upgraded speakers sound a lot better than my other aftermarket sterio
Sounds great, just not exactly very user friendly. I still haven't figured out all the audio settings or how to connect the tuneit app through Bluetooth.
Nice unit. Love the Bass feature!
I purchased this unit because I liked an older model that is installed in my wife's car. I didn't want anything fancy and appreciated the simple interface that wasn't to complicated. Unfortunately, what I have is more complicated and less intuitive. This unit is not as straightforward as hers. There are more buttons, cramping up an already limited faceplate while doing little to improve on a budget stereo. I won't go into all my gripes about what I don't like, as they are too specific to what I would have preferred. I think I could live with a less than optimal user interface if there weren't glitches that affect the performance. Specifically, I have a problem with bluetooth dropping out after using voice commands to send/reply to texts. It's a crapshoot whether the audio I was streaming prior to the text reply will resume. The display will show no unit is connected and I have to cycle through the source inputs to reconnect, which is tedious and distracting. Its bad enough that if I could disable receiving text notifications while driving I would. With all that said, I don't think this is a bad unit. I just think the limitations of BT are something that haven't been overcome yet. I can live with it and will adapt to using it accordingly to minimize frustration, i.e. just ignore notifications while driving.
Pros: Affordable Good sound USB port on faceplate
Cons: Confusing buttons BT connectivity subpar Important buttons are placed to the right of the volume knob, making it harder to interact with the stereo. Why is the bass button so prominent? I think for most people using this unit, they will set their preferences and forget about them. This thing gets prime real estate like you will need to use it often. App for phone is of minimal value.
I've owned more than a few Alpine decks over the last 20yrs and this one doesn't disappoint. Was nervous about installing in a Porsche Boxster with a factory amp, but the Metra parts and Crutchfield install guide made it a slam dunk.
nice product I'm always satisfied with Alpine quality and sound. The reason I chose to review this item was to let someone who has never purchased from Crutchfield or Crutchfield outlet know that the products , new or refurbished are always in my experience, first rate. And if ever I have had an issue with something the customer service team is there to help. You just can't beat this company for good products and service. I learned how to build audio systems using the resource material found here even before the days of internet. I've been a customer since 1984 and will continue to be for as long as I have this audio addiction. Thanks Crutchfield keep up the good work.
Worked great for six months... then the right pre-amp output quit. Crutchfield was unable to assist other than to provide an address to send the unit to Alpine for repair. Not counting shipping time it can take up to a month and half for a repair so it looks like I'll be driving around with a hole in my dash for the next couple of months! At one time Alpine was considered a high end product, I've since replaced their component speakers (very tinny, metallic tweeters) with Polk and their 4x50 amp with a JL. My opinion; they're simply overpriced junk manufactured cheaply. I'm not an audio freak, just wanted a good brand that made quality equipment. Read: Alpine is going downhill Tim from Ft. Collins, CO on 3/4/2014 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe -- Sounds like Alpine is now into mass producing junk.
This stereo is far easier (simple is best) to use than the Kenwood Excelon we bought for my son. Sounds excellent with stock speakers too. Used the hands-free microphone after running and hiding the cord and it sounds excellent.
Pros: Simplicity, sound and features.
Cons: Alpine app not so great.
Simple solution for pairing an iphone music library and hands-free phone calls. This Alpine unit works great for playing music from my phone. I was up and running with my playlists, library, and Pandora. I like the "tune-it" app which gives you a multi-band eq, really helps dial in sound specific to the vehicle. Install in my Toyota Tundra was pretty simple. The hardest part was running the microphone for the hands free calling. Love this feature. The display leaves a little to be desired but the price was just right.
I installed this unit on my HD Heritage Softail in a batwing fairing. It is packed with a bunch of very useful features that make this unit sounds extremely good over the vtwin engine noise. I had a little fun using the Alpine Tune It app to refine my audio. I am also using the ktp445a 4x45w mini amp with it. Lots of standard features and plenty of customization to meet your needs
Pros: Lots of included features, customization
Cons: None so far
Great value for the price. Could not be happier!
Had it installed in less than 15 minutes! Very good sound and fairly easy to operate. Was replacing another Alpine so I could have Bluetooth and phone pairing! Completely satisfied. Crutchfield is the best!
Pros: Easy install and everything I was expecting!
Works well seem s to need an amplifier the speaker s that I got don't sound think it's the though.
Pros: Blue tooth works with your phone to stream music
Cons: Needs amp
Bought this to replace stock radio on a 2004 BMW 3-series as the power button had finally broken off. I am very happy with the purchase as the radio sounds much better than the stock unit. Bluetooth connection is very fast, automatic, and without issues. Installation was quick and easy. Great unit to replace stock radios.
Pros: Excellent sound as expected from Alpine product. Fast Bluetooth connectivity. Easy install.
Cons: Low resolution display. But this was expected at this price-point.
Needs amps for full sound
Great easy to use, remote comes in handy with my 91 f350. Great price.
Instantly improved the sound quality, and the tuning options with the app are plentiful to say the least! The only reason I gave it four stars was because it was too wide for the dash adapter. I ended up doing some modifications to make it fit, but it was a headache. This is probably more of an issue with the particular adapter for my vehicle, but at any rate it made the install take twice as long as it should have.
Pros: Amazing sound quality and tons of tuning options.
Cons: Didn't fit the dash adapter
For the price... This unit is packed full of features. I even added the SiriusXM radio adapter... WOW.
Pros: Great Sound, A bunch of built in and optional features.
Great little unit. Replaced a factory unit.
Pros: Easy to install with supplied installation kit.
Cons: None yet
Easy install. Sounds good not matter what you feed it.
Pros: sound quality. Ease of use.
Cons: Incoming texts to a blue tooth paired phone should be read aloud to driver.
The radio is fine I had problems on cobalt where radio was too long Had to cut out plastic in back dash
One of the best single dins for a good price.
The head unit produces a good, full sound. Great bang for your buck.
Easy installation and terrific tech support from Crutchfield!
great product for the money
I have this radio running to my stock speakers in my Tacoma. Sound quality improved immediately, and I'm loving the Bluetooth.
Pros: Sound quality improved Bluetooth streaming of music
I asked my Crutchfield advisor for a simpler to use single DIN receiver. He recommended this. It is terrible. After six months I need to tear it out. Bluetooth does not work, controls are unusable without the manual and the sound is terrible. Worst of all it continually resets itself into demo mode. I hate to complain, but I am so disappointed in this purchase. I wish I'd gone with something else.
Pros: Sadly I cannot think of any.
Cons: Small buttons. Bluetooth drops connection. Bluetooth forgets my phone. Poor sound quality. Resets into demo mode. Won't save my radio presets.Crutchfield response on 9/5/2016 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Everything works great on this head unit straight forward instructions easy link up to the phone exceeded my expectations
Pros: Digital interface is easy and great the 9 band equalizer Works awesome with the app
Cons: Does not have a compatible dimming circuit to work with my car but that's not really a problem with the head unit
Coming from the poor sounding and relatively quiet sock sound system. Got the adapter to use the stock amp pass though which was good so I didn't have to run new speaker wires. Overall I am very happy with this product and the fit is perfect.
Not as difficult to use as some of the other reviews claim, in fact it is a bit easier to navigate that other head units I've had in the past. Works with my Spotify without any issues. The app on my android connects effortlessly and the Bluetooth is seamless. Great sounding radio without busting the budget.
Pros: Affordable Great sound Cool app
Cons: Some of the buttons could be a bit bigger.
Great unit. Very easy to install on my Ford Escape
Pros: All the extras not on factory radio
Cons: No remote
The unit was easy to install on my Silverado. Have it installed with Memphis door speakers and db drive subs. Sounds amazing inside and outside.
Pros: Great sound, Bluetooth streaming
Cons: No remote
love it. put it on my goldwing. awesome with alpine amp 445a.
Cons: a little long
Looks good and sounds good easy to install
This unit feels like they built it without anyone actually living with it for a while. I now have and I truly hate it. I bought it specifically for use with Pandora. Sometime it even works. More often not. Phone is a Samsung GS4 so not something off the beaten path. Display is stupid. You can see one piece of information at a time. The title, the artist, etc. or even the time of day. They couldn't figure out how to show more info, or at least show a clock with the other info. Nope. One thing at a time. The buttons I need for Pandora, when it works, are some of the smallest on the unit. The general operations are largely non-intuitive, and I needed to print and keep the manual in the truck in case I need it. Also the volume knob has other functions, like picking a Pandora station, that are selected by pushing the knob. This is a truck and if I hit even a small bump when I am reaching for the volume knob, suddenly I am selecting a different Pandora station and have to find the back button to stop it from changing my station. I wish you could more easily see how these things work before you buy them. Basically, I hate this thing and wish I had never bought it.
Cons: Unreliable, non-intuitive, small buttons, only one thing displayed on screen at a time, no always visible clock, Pandora works less than half the time.
I sorely needed an upgrade for my elantra .The factory system was not cutting it anymore.I wanted a unit with tons of flexability this Alpine delivers...bluetooth,usb,aux,tuner, siriusXM too...I travel thru some of the most remote areas in the state of Texas and crutchfield and Alpine are a winning combination!!! Stereo sounds amazing and installation was a breeze...I 110% happy with my purchase
Great sound, the installation was very easy.
I replaced an older Alpine CD player with the non-CD player UTE-52BT. The wiring harnesses and antenna adapters were exactly the same. USB is the way to go for best sound quality. A lot of features and a great value.
Pros: Value and ease of installation
This is a great stereo. I have bought Alpine units before and they are great stereo. I will always purchase Alpine since they are great units.
Pros: Six channel output. Great Bluetooth connection. Easy to use without having a degree in rocket science.
Cons: No CD player (who even still uses CD). No extra AUX input. No iPod connection on back for connecting an I Pod.
I like this unit. It works well and is easy to understand. It sounds good. My only complaint is that I did not buy a Sub to run with it. I have had Alpine equipment before and this unit, I believe, lives up to the sound quality I was used to with my previous equipment. My last Alpine unit sounded so good it was stolen.
Pros: Fits well. Looks good. Sounds good. Has RCA jack for Sub.
love the unit Bluetooth rage a bit short
Upgraded from stock which was a heck of a leap forward considering it's a 2004 F250. Wanted Bluetooth, iPhone connectivity, and USB playback. Who really uses CD's anymore, right? Stereo sounds great, fit well. Crutchfield send the console kit, the tools to remove stock radio, and the proper harness for free!! I can't tell you how this receiver sounds without an amp. I added the ktp-445a amp during the install and change speakers out to Alpine 517's. Sounds great, substantial upgrade. I'm happy with the purchase, but considering my start point, it would be hard not to be happy with any upgrade.
This unit was so easy to install, within 20 minutes the old one was out in the new one was back in. And the sound is awesome
Pros: This unit was so easy to install, within 20 minutes the old one was out in the new one was back in. And the sound is awesome
Alpine quality has gone wayyyyyy downhill. Years ago the head units felt made of quality but now (maybe it's just this unit) it feels so cheap and plasticy. It doesn't even have a rubber volume knob anymore. It feels more like a Dual brand receiver more than an Alpine.
Pros: Nothing really...
Cons: Quality has gone downhill.
Nice product great sound and paired easily with my phone. Has all the features I wanted including bt for phone music and usb port. Overall setup a bit tricky so keep the manual handy. Very easy and clean install in my Sport Trac.
Pros: Nice sound and great features. Looks good. Easy installation.
Cons: Tricky initial setup especially shutting off the features menu.
This works great in my fairing on a Honda VTX 1300
I've always really stuck with two things when buying my car audio equipment. One is Crutchfield and the other is Alpine. I've always liked both and had great experiences with them. This unit I'm sure is wonderful if the App actually worked. Not only is it really the only way you can properly access the systems EQ levels and other MX levels ext. but in the use of the App itself it has real antiquated operation platform. If you make a mistake you have to start all over again. I guess I could just never make a mistake and that would solve that one..... The accessing of the account, which I've now done, I walk through the "Tutorial" and done all the steps with no luck so far. The directions the unit comes with don't explain it well so what I'm stuck with is a poorly tuned unit
Pros: Bluetooth works great. I ran the mic next to my visor in the trim of the door/windsheild pointed at my face so when I scream at my bank they can clearly hear how much they suck. Hook up was a breeze Crutchfield's free wire harness and tool to pull out the unit is the best.
Cons: Accessing/Linking cell phone to "App", which seems it was developed in 1998, was not possible. At least so far
I have avoided Alpine since I bought one for my 2006 Subaru and discovered that even when "dimmed", the blue LED light was so bright as to interfere with my night vision. However, I returned to the brand when I started looking for a new stereo for my 1999 Miata (with Bose). The Miata has a amplifier *and* a powered antenna. Most brands now only provide a single power lead, labeled "Powered accessory". This is on at all times. Alpine still offers two leads: power acc and power ANT. Unfortunately, I made the assumption that the power ANT would only be powered when I was using the tuner function. That assumption is incorrect-it is always on. This behavior has been confirmed by Alpine tech support. Beyond that, the unit performs as expected. The sound is very good, even with my stock speakers. The Bluetooth pairing is easy and effective. The bluetooth calling is pretty poor, but I can't blame alpine for that, it's hard to make a speaker that works in the environment of a convertible. Would I buy it if I knew then what I know now? No. The display is still too bright at night and competing designs manage to take up less space behind the dash (something that would have been valuable in the MX-5). But I don't regret buying it and expect to be happy with it for years to come. Well, once I find the right smoked tint to tone down those blue buttons.
Pros: Good sound, clean packaging, easy to set up, bluetooth pairing with iOS is trivial
Cons: Power ANT lead not suitable for power extending antennas, potential for night vision interference
The quality of this product is very good and reliable!
Alpine really has a winner with this one. The mic cord is plenty long enough to route up the A pillar and mount close to your head and gives great reception when speaking. The Stereo syncs quickly to the phone and works flawlessly.
Pros: Bluetooth remote mic and easy of setup
Cons: Would be nice to have the 4v preamp outputs on this stereo.
Great product! I now own two (one in vehicle and another in the garage) and intend to buy a 3rd soon for my other vehicle.
Pros: Easy to use, plenty of functions and options, great value
Product was super easy to install, and works great. I would recommend to anyone!
Pros: Super easy to install, works great, looks cool, Bluetooth works good.
This stereo looks and sounds great! I sold my pioneer deh-x6700bt to my younger brother to save him some money with fixing up his car and was a perfect opportunity to upgrade. this was the best choice for me. I like all the adjustability that it has in the stereo and with the app. downside is that the app is not really working. other than that it is pretty good.
Pros: looks, sound, adjustability, amp that you can buy later that plugs into the stereo, app to tune the sound.
Cons: app doesn't really work, has 2 menus to adjust the sound, only one color for lighting
Wonderful sound, but the menu functions are so detailed it is hard to change the sound while driving.
Really like the radio and it Blue tooth and smart phone functions.
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: Operation and set up are not great but they work Just fine once you figure them out.
Does as advertised. I didn't want a CD/DVD player, since I haven't used one in ages. I don't care for nav or all the bells and whistles. Also, I wanted to keep a low profile.
Pros: -Simple design, fairly easy to use and inexpensive.
Cons: -I thought I could change the color/illumination, but I don't think I can.
It's simple and complimenting at the same time.
Pros: Can actually use an app to further set up the sound you want!
I decided I didn't need a CD player since I play all my music from my phone. This unit replaced the stock radio/CD/cassette deck in my 03 Taco. I'm very glad I made the switch!
Overall I give this unit a 4.5. Using the install kit provided by Crutchfield made the install pretty easy. I did have to slightly modify the install kit brackets in order properly secure the unit, but not a big deal if you have a hacksaw and a drill. Unit fits nicely in the Suburban and has greatly improved the sound quality and the connectivity of my smartphone.
Pros: Great sound quality using factory speakers in a 2001 Suburban. Bluetooth, Pandora and ipod control are fairly easy Affordable and capable
Cons: Alpine unit blue lights are too bright (even when I use the manual dim feature) Too bad it can not be controlled with the dash board light dimmer. Sometimes connecting to pandora or ipod control can be a bit cumbersome, but I'm still learning the system.
Well rounded piece of machinery. Its affordable and puts out great sound for the price! Well worth it!
Pros: Good sound Cool Color Easy to use
Cons: Get what you're paying. Its afordable
Installed in a 2000 Honda S2000. Install was easy and it sounds much better than the factory head unit. I used a DCI from Modifry to install, so I was able to maintain control of the head unit through the factory dash controls.
Pros: -Sound quality is much better than stock -Easy to install: Crutchfield sends instructions -Bluetooth is nice to have
Cons: None so far
This is a great little head unit, especially for the price. Sounds great and looks great, though I do wish you could change the display colors. I set out to find a moderately priced head unit that doesn't look like a Lego model and I believe this is the best fit for those requirements. The harness and dash kit Crutchfield included work great! I can finally enjoy music in my truck without using a disingenuous and terribly muffled cassette adapter! Would certainly recommend.
Pros: Looks great, sounds great, not too expensive, Bluetooth works very well
Cons: Can't change light colors, somewhat of a learning curve
First of all, the price was great for this unit for what it does. I wanted to upgrade the factory unit and most importantly, add hands free calling. The install was very easy with the included wiring harness, adapter and instructions except for routing the remote microphone cable. In a 2004 Grand Marquis the easiest route to the upper center of the windshield is up the passenger side A-Pillar. There is decent access above the glove compartment when it is open, but there was still a lot of knuckle busting and swearing before I actually got it through. The A-pillar cover is held on with clips and is easy to remove. Tucking the wire under the headliner and installing the clip/microphone to the overhead light console results in great call quality, even with the windows open. The manual is very clear on how to set the time on the unit, but nowhere could be found how to display the time. A call to tech support and the button that is to the left of the radio presets, marked with "-" allows you to toggle the time display on or off. Hello Alpine - add this to the manual... I have limited mechanical ability, but was able to accomplish this install in about an hour. Matching the colors up on the harness and crimping them to the radio took about another 15 minutes. Truly, plug and play. Overall I'm very pleased and will tackle the speakers next. Will not try the TuneIt App until the new speakers are in.
Pros: Ease of installation Excellent sound Easy bluetooth connection for music and handsfree phone calls
Cons: Manual omitted the way to display the time on the unit.
I have been a fan of Alpine for a long time. This head unit is great, it has more features then I really needed but it was a great price. I really love the Bluetooth feature and the Alpine Tune It app is great, it gives you great control of your listening pleasure. That alone is reason enough to get this unit. Sounds great and is easy to use.
Pros: Features, Sound, and easy to use
Cons: Clock does not display with other text on screen
This car stereo is great. Alpine always sounds good and has good processing software. I stream music bluetooth and the processing sounds grear through my alpine mrx-v70
Just here to write a short review, the heading came in with everything it was supposed to have and is doing great. Have had no issues with Crutchfield or the item itself.
Pros: Great Lighting Great Sound Good Looks
Cons: None so far
I replaced a ten year-old Alpine CDA-9857 with this unit. I've used Alpine exclusively in my vehicles since the 80's, so when I want to modernize I naturally went Alpine. This UTE-52BT has bee a great disappointment. The sound is below average, and the user interface makes the unit almost intolerable. The buttons are far too small, and during daylight hours, invisible. The switches feel cheap and flimsy, the longer ones flex so much that it is hard to get the switch to actuate. The power off switch is for some unknown reason combined with repeat, pause, and play (?) and no matter which function I want to select, another one seems to happen. The rotary encoder is far too easy to bump when trying to adjust volume, which disables its function as a volume control and makes you hit the setup button 7 times quickly to get back to volume. It says you can hold it in for 2 seconds to achieve the same goal, but I can't say that I've ever gotten that to work. The phone audio quality is just horrible, and I can't seem to convince it to answer a call no matter which button I push. It will hang up on the caller, though. The unit gives the impression that it was designed by someone with no idea that cars bump and shake and who has never actually tried to use a radio in a moving car.
Pros: Looks good Easy to install
Cons: Controls too small, too flimsy, too cluttered, too hard to read, impenetrable nested menus No effective way to cancel rotary encoder actions Requires far too much visual concentration to operate, taking attention away from driving Very poor phone audio quality. Unresponsive phone controls Muddy, stuffy, sound. Very poor spatial stage. Not up to Alpine standards Can't seem to locate song titles on USB stick Poorly written and badly organized user manual, nowhere to see all controls at on
Nice stereo.the bluetooth calling works fantastic. Very clear.
Unit works just as advertised. There's a ton of flexibility with all of the tone controls, although there's a slight learning curve with figuring out how to access all the options. However, the instruction manual gives you everything you need to know. I installed this in my 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SE with no problems.
Pros: Great flexibility with sound, music quality is great, 6-channel RCA outputs
Cons: Adjustment knob feels pretty cheap (plastic) although this is a small complaint.
Have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler with Infinity system that has been a major disappointment since I've owned it. Debated forever on features I wanted and decided on this unit because it has everything I wanted (blue tooth, Pandora, hands free calling) without the fluff of other units. I haven't owned a cd in almost 10 years so the absence of a cd player is a major plus for me. One less thing to go wrong. After a super easy install, my jeep was rocking. I couldn't believe how awesome my stock speakers sounded and my factory sub came to life. I had to read the directions to figure out some of the set up instruction, but have it down now. Fairly easy to navigate the features and such after a little practice. As good as it sounds now, I can't wait to hear it blaring away thru some upgraded speakers. Why? Because there is always something better to be had :)
Pros: Price, sound quality, ease of install.
Big sound for a small price.
Pros: Fast delivery. Fit perfect in my 94 Crown Vic. Easy install with the recommended metra install kit. Bluetooth paired up just fine and sound quality is very good. Comes with detailed instructions on a CD.
Sounds awesome works great really can't go wrong with an alpine head unit
Pros: Bluetooth is nice, lots of adjustments that can be made with the EQ app
Cons: EQ app doesn't sink with bluetooth you have to plug your in phone and could use more presets since the manual is a bit in-depth for most
I am very pleased with the capabilities of the unit. I am still getting to know the finer points, but am overall very satisfied.
Pros: Display. Quality. Options.
Cons: Owners manual on CD drive.
I give the radio top rating for quality and performance. I mounted it in a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Easy installation overall but the microphone clip is pretty useless. It is completely made of plastic and designed to clip on a sun visor. That aside, in hot weather the clip doesn't hold its springiness and basically doesn't grip the visor after a hot day. The problem is it's designed to be used for hands free calling but the safety issue is negated because the microphone and clip falls off the visor and directly into your view of the road and other cars. It is a safety issue, and a simple redesign using a metal spring instead of plastic would solve the issue of it falling in you face while driving. To keep it out of line of sight, I resorted to hanging it on the "A" pillar trim. While that semi solved the falling off issue, it now picks up wind noise if the window is down any at all. Granted this may be unique to my particular situation, it still needs addressing.
Pros: Very good radio overall and has many really good features for a radio of this price range. I recommend it highly.
Cons: The microphone clip is pretty useless.
I initially loved this unit but since I purchased it from Crutchfield back in March 2015 it has reset to factory defaults at least 6 times. I removed it from the dash and checked all electrical connections to ensure it wasn't losing power. The problem seems to be occur when bluetooth calls are received while streaming music over bluetooth. Once the call ends it resets to factory defaults and comes up in demo mode. It's a pain in the butt to reconfigure the audio settings over-and-over again each time a reset occurs. I checked Alpine's website but there isn't a firmware release that might fix the problem. In the process of searching I see that another Crutchfield customer has also encountered the same problem. See review titled "bluetooth randomly resets whole unit. happens 3-4 tmes" by paul s, dated April 13, 2015. If this problem were addressed it would be a 4-5 star product.
Pros: great features, excellent sound quality, easy to use
Cons: factory reset problem makes it difficult to enjoy using it
Easy to install, fairly well thought out controls, great sound
Pros: Multiple controls using same controls (volume knob becomes tuning control with simple touch). Very good bluetooth mic communication
Cons: must choose between digital media display or clock, while music sounds great, phone calls are "tinny" (on iphone 5s)
Like all of the other ALPINE's I've owned this one does what it needs. Just wish the HD tuner replaced the SiriusXM for the same price.
Cons: Has SiriusXM vs an HD tuner.
As expected from an Alpine product, this is an excellent receiver and media player. With 4 different inputs (BT, USB stick, iPod, aux in) to play your digital music files, this is a huge upgrade from my old Kenwood CD player. I can play just about anything from my Android phone or any passenger with an iPhone can play his/her music. There is ample power to the speakers in my truck with easy outputs to add an amp and the installation was a breeze with the Crutchfield diagrams.
Pros: - Multiple input modes - Great sound and power to speakers - BT connects easily to Android
Cons: - Setting up connections and menus are a bit clunky. (but there's only so much you can do with a single line output - No ability to change display colors - Don't forget to turn off DEMO mode!
After a straightforward install into OEM slot, the Alpine fired right up and sounded great. Settings were quite intuitive with many choices, sound quality excellent. Bluetooth connected easily with my cell phone. With Bluetooth, microphone did a great job of sounding clear in spite of significant car noise.
Pros: Good features for the price. Bluetooth pairing and sound quality very good.
Cons: Wish the Tune-It app was available for all platforms (no go on tablet or on Windows phone)
I purchased this head unit to replace an older Sony and I'm very pleased with the overall quality of the sound. Currently my Sierra has factory speakers but this unit has changed the sound for the better. Currently have no gripes with this head unit.
Pros: Great sound quality, well-built, easy to set up, and an easy to navigate UI.
Cons: None to list.
You can't go wrong with this unit, great sound quality and control especially for the price. Very easy to use and the "tune it app" works great as far as audio adjustments, I have not used the other features of the app. Bluetooth is awesome! My Pioneer made me enter a pin everytime I connected but this connects as soon as I turn the truck on. Can't say enough great buy, great service, and fast delivery.
Pros: Bluetooth 9 band eq Sounds quality Cosmetics
Cons: No cons I can find yet.
This is a great unit for the money. Easy install and light weight with no CD transport.
Very easy installation with included wiring harness and mounting bracket. Love all the features, especially bluetooth. Sounds great with the Kicker speakers I purchased at the same time. Excellent upgrade on 14 year old factory sound.
Replace factory unit and it's like night to day in compare. Very happy to use smart phone to receive music.
Pros: Anything was a pro in this replacement, but I like it has no CD player to worry about breaking. They are about obsolete anyway!
Cons: Still learning all the bells and whistles this unit has but I'm a slow learner.
Great look! , good frequency range, talks to everything in your digital arsenal... Sans CD/tape ;) Very happy with this well priced head unit!!!
Pros: A bunch!!!
Cons: A bit 'steppy' when setting functions... 2-3 steps to adjust HPF for example
Love this, the app is cool. I suck at tuning a stereo, so using other people's is great
Pros: Works great
Cons: No color change
Great radio with easy bluetooth pairing.
Pros: super simple to use with great sound
Cons: no windows phone app.
Solid alpine for the money. The head unit is certainly quality to be sub $150. But then again, it's Alpine. Viewable in any light which is great, the technology is really nice with the app that Alpine has usable for the head unit. Audio quality of the bluetooth hands free for calling is not very good, so I don't see myself using it much, but all-in-all it's great for the money
Pros: Great price viewable in all light good sound quality technology is cool with the tunIT app
Cons: audio for hands free is not very good bluetooth seems to really want to play files on my phone, even when I have started spotify to play. A little buggy there, but it works
GREAT Alpine unit for the price. Sound is awesome and features cover all the bells and whistles of today's modern technology!
If your looking for a simple system for blue tooth, this is it. Good quality for using phone, sounds allot better then stock stereo and improved the sound of my base speaker.
Pros: Great stereo for the price
Cons: Setting up display
This is the second one of these I have purchased and installed. No problem interfacing with either Android or Apple devices. Hands free phone reception and clarity on part with higher priced units. All of my portable music players have worked perfectly providing me with commercial free music while driving.
Pros: Price, adjustable preset volume level for each input.
Cons: Limited on display lighting options.
This deck screams "discount retail", though it has an amazing equalizer and the tuneit app is really cool. It seems like they traded that for an almost decent display. I'm alright with the 90s style alarm clock font - 90s style baby! I've had Alpines in the past and was very happy with the display, but this one is so insanely bright at night that it's almost dangerously distracting. On my dashboard it sits below the heater controls in front of the floor shift, really low and set back in the dash compared to where it would be in most trucks, yet it's still bright enough to reflect brightly across the windshield at night. I have a friend with glasses who said it would be way too annoying to drive with at night, especially on dark two lane roads with oncoming headlights. There IS a dimmer wire that could be connected, but a lot of cars don't even have an independent dimmer wire in the dash to connect it to. My old Alpines both had the dimmer on the display as an option, and weren't this bright to begin with, so I took the option for granted picking it out. It CAN be seen during the day! The equalizer with subwoofers is really cool, but if you have any type of difficulty driving at night, even remotely, do yourself a favor and avoid this one.
Pros: The equalizer options and tuneit app are really cool if you have subwoofers!
Cons: The display is dangerously bright at night.
Very nice radio for the money. Simple to use and the Bluetooth works great for playing music from the mobile device. Also sounds much better than the factory stereo.
Pros: Easy to use and sounds great.
Cons: Station selection buttons are very small.
Alpine quality sound in an affordable package. Wish the features were a little easier to navigate. Surprised the chassis is as big as it is for just a media head unit.
Pros: Awesome sound quality. Excellent build quality. Crutchfield's usual excellent customer support.
Cons: Chassis could have been smaller on a media-only unit. Complicated settings navigation.
I've been a fan of Alpine since the 1980's and as always this is another excellent product. It has high quality sound and enough power to rank with the best head units on the market even with the addition of an auxiliary amp. It has enough bells and whistles (i.e., Bluetooth, 3.5mm input jack, SirusXM option, Pandora, etc.) to provide a even the biggest audiophile enthusiast with a smile. Additionally, the unit has 3 pre-amp out which make it easy to add additional power.
Pros: Quality build, High quality sound, High Power wand Low Distortion, easy installation, Bluetoot, SiriusXM option, 3/5mm input jack
Cons: The only con I can think of is, I miss the option to change the headunit's display light color
I have been along time fan of alpine and this receiver is exactly why. Alpine has built a top notch Bluetooth and digital audio receiver. I put this receiver in my sons truck since all of his music comes either a pandora or Amazon music app from his iPhone 6 ( I don't think he even knows what a CD is). It sounds great through his stock 1996 speakers and also his pioneer slim sub. Installation was a breeze thanks to Crutchfield. The alpine menu is easy to set up and navigate. If you are looking for a hands free Bluetooth to talk on the phone this is just ok, you would be better off buying one of those stupid ear pieces to cram in your ear. If you are looking for a digital input music receiver this is the one to get.
Pros: Digital receiver Low pass filter High pass filter Menu
Cons: Talking on your phone through the Bluetooth
Very nice unit for the price, does what it needs to do very well, it does offer more complex user settings but it also plays music and does the simple things you need it to do
Pros: Easy to use and very functional unit
Cons: Range seems to be within the car, but If you plan on listening with your phone outside of the car range is diminished, not a huge issue tho.
This deck i was questionable about until I had an install to do on a friends car & was pretty impressed w/ it considering it had no cd player. Since then i have recommended it to 3 other friends & had them order through you guys. After installing it into 3 diff cars i finally ordered 1 for my daily driver & love it. No cd s to fumble around w/ & the bt streaming is flawless even though I'm using an android phone & the deck is designed for i phones.
Pros: The alpine tune it app. I thought the deck sounded great for the price & then i played w/ the tune it app & all i can say is holy ---- ! It sounds better than the last alpine head unit I was using which was a cda-9887 cd receiver.
Cons: The only con is the lack of color change. Thats it.
Installation was smooth. Improved sound quality and loudness of current equipment tune app creates custom sound for listening preference
Pros: Install is smooth
Cons: Use of all features took a little figuring out
All I needed was a unit to play my flash drive based music and connect my phone via bluetooth. This unit fits my needs perfectly. I've been an Alpine brand fan for some time and continue with the UTE-52BT.
Pros: Front USB port. Easy installation. Bluetooth connectivity.
Cons: Faceplate can be tricky to attach. Only blue light for faceplate color, with there were others.
Great product, love the sound, easy to install
Pros: All of the options to play music from Iphone.
Perfect radio for what I was looking for. I love that there is no CD player as I only listen to Pandora via the Aux port.
Pros: Easy to use, no CD player, good sound quality.
Cons: The phone microphone and speaker sound is not of great quality but enough to check voicemails or have quick conversations. I wouldn't use it for a conference call. Could use a manual dimmer and the ability to change color on the illumination to match my car.
I bought this after being a Pioneer guy for the last 15 years. My main draw was the 9 band Parametric EQ which offers plenty of control. It also has plenty of other features that let me Taylor the sound output. I would like to see some more work on refinement to the unit however. I can't believe it's 2015 and we are still stuck with calculator like displays. The display doesn't even allow for viewing the time and station, it's one or the other. There's actually room for more to be displayed if the font size was a bit smaller and they used more areas of the display. Overall though I bought this unit more for what it does. I just wish they would put a little more into the polish of the unit.
Pros: Tons of Audio Control --9 Band Parametric EQ --No tacky features ie: flashing backlighting --Tune it App is a great feature --Higher rms power than most
Cons: --Buttons too close to one another and small --Volume Knob not linear: trying to turn the volume down quickly results in it not moving much at all. --Buttons have a cheaply clunky feel when using. --Custom tune disappears after selecting a stock one and then trying to go back to custom(need to connect to tune it app again and STOP CAR in order to get it back-annoying). --Screen technology hasn't changed since 1990 --Limited info on screen. Font size and space could be utilized better.
i initially loved this unit had it for a year now but over last few months the unit reset while connected to bluetooth at least 3-4 times a week.sometimes in the middle of a call .... i have checked an rechecked all electrical connections. wondering if there is any software update for unit? and i also had to replace microphone because factory failed after 4 months. i had high hopes for this but it falls short for alpine quality.
Cons: BluCrutchfield response on 4/14/2015 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
This cd player is great it has all the options you need to adjust your speakers or sub, the bluetooth is awesom if conects with my phone when i get in my truck automatically or you can manually connect it however you prefer, the sound quality is great alot better than AUX connection......the only thing i thought this cd player had that it didnt was a cd player, so you might make sure you pick the one with the options you prefer, its not to big of a deal because all my music is on my computer anyways so i just put it onto a usb card and plug it into my cd player.
Who needs CD's anymore? Not me. Only have had it a couple of weeks now, and already need to upgrade OEM speakers. Luv the connectivity and the hands free phone.
Pros: Hands free phone, no wires, connectivity options, no more CD's for me's
Cons: bluetooth audio paused on it's own
great sound and easy to install and looks great. put it into my 2006 toyota coma
Pros: sound quality is very good
So far so good. Just installed about a week ago and going strong. Love the unit for its simplicity and usage. Installed in a VW Beetle and that was a challenge but overall very easy to use and great quality, as usual, from Alpine.
Pros: Easy to use, high quality, and superb sound.
This receiver is a nightmare to operate unless your the passenger and can devote all your attention looking through a magnifying lens at which button to press. The control buttons are so hard to read! I bought the unit to install in my wife's Subaru. She did not like it and wanted her receiver reinstalled even though the cd was broke. So I did and put in Ranger and now I don't like it. Since the 60 day return warranty is up I will need to take my eyes off the road for many seconds to change a setting.
Pros: sounds good
Cons: Terrible design
Build Quality I gave it 2 star because buttons are to close together, I'm old school and I think they should of kept the green lights on all alpine's to with 2-3 colors at least.
Pros: No dimmer what's going on with tech stuff? it don't cost like nothing to put a Dimmer in all radios because most of the radios are really to bright! you should make them as you like your dash lights- that's one thing I upgraded to another radio because of the features this Alpine had been lacking, the sound is great I'll give them that.
Cons: ( bass and sound settings have 2 buttons you have to go through), sent it back had trouble with it not putting out enough single to amp for the Kicker sub DVC very low but not blaming Alpine could be the harness for the car just could not figure it out so everything is coming new to see what's going on with it should had nothing to do from the output of the RCA out of the radio and have harness trouble weird, ??
on top of the price this unit is impressive on multiple levels from the ease of installation through the massive list of functions to the outstanding quality of the sound (I installed a small powered sub but it would stand well on its own. it has plenty enough power to fill my suv. i have not yet installed the speaker upgrades and the sound improvement is already astronomical. the user instruction could be a bit more clear though it is fairly intuitive after spending some time with it. the 9band parametric EQ is a godsend for fine tuning the sound although it sounded great before having touched it. the buttons are small and difficult to use while driving. however the inclusion of a steering wheel control adaptor voided this problem. having steering wheel controls I would recommend the adaptor in order to retain those controls. and being all digital I have cleared space not having cd's everywhere.
Pros: loads of features. minimum price. all digital. extremely easy to install. outstanding sound quality. once you learn the functions it is easy to navigate
Cons: without steering wheel controls the buttons are far too small to use while driving. instructions could be better written and more in depth (if you are not tech savvy, you may need a teen)
Lots of equipment for the price with typical great Alpine quality. I don't use BT so no thoughts there but installs easily, has good sound and fantastic range of features. It focuses on quality sound and not on pretty (gaudy) light displays. Doesn't play CD's but CD's are almost ancient history anyway. Radio has good reception. My system is in an 02 Ford Ranger Regular Cab and it is: 4-Polk DXi571 5X7 coaxial speakers in stock locations, Sound Ordnance B-8PTD Powered Sub: (8" woofer with 125W RMS class D amp), Alpine UTE-52BT Media Player/Receiver Head Unit, Alpine KTP-445A Amp (45W RMS X 4), Dynamat in doors and on back wall of cab. This setup sounds better than great to my 61 year old ears...will never win a competition but I don't get that anyway. The sub especially adds that low end that the Polks struggle with at lower volume listening. Might add a pair of Polk tweeters to the A-pillar in the future just to raise the soundstage from the floor but the 6X9's are very good at mid to high range by themselves.
Pros: Total control of music tonal quality. Subwoofer controls are outstanding. The add-on plug and play amp is a must have addition (KTP445A). Display has two step adjustability. If what you want is a machine that plays flash drive, IPod, Pandora, has Bluetooth, and totally provides control over sound quality this is your machine.
Cons: Buttons are small and too close together...volume knob also is push selector and it's too easy to push instead of rotate. Limited text display which is inexcusable but not a deal breaker. Menu tree is a bit convoluted so it takes some playing with to get used to...this is an Alpine thing.
great value great stereo bluetooth works flawlessly great addition to my semi.
Purchase was for sons first car. Has the features he loves. The fact he owns no cd's and all his music is digital still blows me away . Did everything well as advertised . Nice unit.
Having just purchased less than a month ago, I might have to replace it. I'm having an issue with the the BT feature. Randomly after a call, the unit will freeze and power off, back on, and everything on the radio gets reset. I tried twice to repeat the problem and twice succeeded.
It is a great way to play digital music in your vehicle. The Tune It app is awesome.
Pros: Sound, looks, versatility.
Cons: Does not show the clock when it's off.
I love this stereo. Feels good to not half to use a cord to stream my music... I would recommend this product to anyone...
I really like this player. It replaced an eight year old Alpine that worked great up until recently. Manually accessing and navigating the sub menu hasn't gotten any easier but the Tuneit app is really cool as long as you know that you have to turn on the GPS function in your phone to make it work. Strange requirement I know... But the whole not having to screw with cd's since you have a butt-load of tunes on a flash drive or phone is really cool. It's like listening to a radio station that plays everything you like without the blahbity blah. It's a pretty nice unit for the price if you're not looking for anything fancy.
Pros: Easy to install, and it sounds awesome.
Cons: Navigating the sub menu is a pain and the Tuneit app has that weird GPS requirement that I mentioned before. The app also disconnects a lot since it "senses the vehicle being in motion" while it's sitting still. The other thing I noticed was that the detachable faceplate didn't seem quite as... sturdy as the one on my old deck and it makes me wonder if that's going to be a problem somewhere down the road.
9 band Parametric...nothing else needed to be said
Most all my units are Alpine so the interface is more familiar to me. The unit installed easy, looks and sounds great and was easy to install.
Pros: Easy to use controls. Great sound and features. With the front Aux port, USB access as well as blue-tooth and mobile phone it has all the bases covered. I also added an Alpine amp to my sub-woofer and it sounds great.
Cons: I have always been happy with Alpine units so I am partial to them. I really see no Cons to this unit.
This stereo sounds excellent and the bluetooth phone/audio quality is also great. My only complaint is that I wish there was an option to dim the illumination as it is much brighter than the rest of my dash lighting. I found the settings to be pretty easy to navigate so long as the tune ti app is used for the 9 band eq settings, the eq allows for a lot of adjustment which is not easily seen/adjusted through the stereo display but very easy through my android phone. All in all this unit is a great value at this price point with phenomenal sound.
Pros: Sound quality, bluetooth phone quality, bluetooth music quality, ease of use, price point, free tune it app makes adjusting versatile eq simple
Cons: Illumination is too bright for my liking with no was to adjust, occasionally artist/track display will get stuck when should be scrolling
Great reciever, very easy to use. The menus are fairly intuitive and the tuneit app makes tuning the sound a breeze this paired with the alpine plug and play amp makes for a nice sound system
Pros: Easy menus, simple tuning
Cons: the manual is written poorly it was easier for me to play with the radio until I figured it out then to read the manual.
This unit is easy to use and has a great display. The sound EQ app is a mixed bag (depends on other users to share their settings) but it works. I just use it to make my own EQ adjustments. Bluetooth easy to use and external mic picks up my voice well according to my callers. Qualifies for free install harness & mount. This is my 2nd one I have purchased. Source button easy to find. Even my wife can use it.
Pros: Ease of use & set
Cons: 1)Display color not selectable 2) Demo mode must be turned off at initial power up or its a pain to find in the sub menu setup
Replaced the Pioneer unit in my W900, Was considering replacing speakers as well, That is until I cranked this beauty up. takes a minute to get used to the controls. I'm not into all the glitter so the large easy to see display is All I need
Pros: Great unit THANK YOU CRUTCHFIELD very happy with your advise
Cons: could be a little easier for my old push button am radio fingers to navigate
Only been in a pimple of days but sounds great. Love the Bluetooh feature with my I phone. The install was a snap with the parts I got from Crutchfield.
Pros: Bluetooh for hands free, sounds great
This receiver is advanced yet easy to use. It has a nice clean look to it and looks great in my E30 BMW.
Installed along with an Alpine KTP-445A Power Pack. No sub but sounds good in the Chevy S10 on two after market 4"x6" speakers in the dash and two 6-1/2" speakers in the doors. Very happy with Crutchfield, their shipping was super fast, everything was well packaged for shipment and arrived in perfect condition. Not real happy with Alpine however. Was looking forward to tweaking the head unit's settings via their Tuneit App. Unfortunately it seems that the Tuneit App installed on a Nexus 7 tablet does not work with the Alpine UTE-52BT. One would think that with a company like Alpine this would not be an issue but it is. Seems they are able to make a good HU but their app development is sorely lacking.
Pros: Easy install. Especially appreciate the plug and play convenience of the KTP-445A Power Pack. Face plate has a pleasing, clean appearance.
Cons: It's very easy to mistakenly activate the "enter" function when adjusting the volume. Bad idea to marry the two functions on the same control. Some of the buttons are very tiny making it real easy to fat finger them. HU only has one USB port so if it fails you're out of luck. Would have been much happier had there also been a rear USB port on this model. The biggest disappointment was the inability to use the Tuneit App with the very popular and widely installed base of Nexus 7 tablets, inc
Excellent head unit. Features GALORE! Excellent for people who have fazed out CDs and prefer wireless media or iPod/iPhone control. Great bass, crisp highs, and excellent mids. The ease of use got 4 stars only because there are so many features that it literally takes a couple of days to learn how to navigate the numerous menus, options, and features this thing has available. Installation was a breeze. Everything I needed for installation came free with my purchase and had the unit in my '03 Durango in about an hour. However, I have installed many head units for friends and family so I do have experience. Even for a novice, the master sheet provided by crutchfield makes installation quick and easy being that it is extremely detailed. The hands free option and included microphone keeps me from even having to touch my phone in the car. All music is available as well as contacts, recent calls, missed calls, and hands free dialing by speech. I must say for $140 you can't go wrong. Oh, and the fact it's an Alpine tells you right away it will provide the performance you are looking for to boost that factory stereo. Even if you don't upgrade your door speakers or add a system with subwoofers the difference in quality is night and day. I would recommend this product to anyone in the market looking to upgrade that factory stereo.
Pros: Tons of features, hands free, blue tooth & USB compatible, sleek look, great quality.
Cons: None I can think of...
This stereo was easy to install and to figure out the settings. This was my first install and I would do it again. The bluetooth sounds great.
Pros: Almost as easy as plug and play
Cons: stripping the wires was a challenge for someone who's never done that.
This is my first Alpine head unit. I have always been a die hard Sony fan but decided to try something different. So far I'm very pleased. The Bluetooth is awesome my Android connects right away. Pandora works great along with Winamp and Spotify. The TuneIt app I am still trying to get used to. I can't seem to find some functions like "Time Correction" and a few others. Overall I'm very happy with this Alpine.
Pros: Good sound quality. Nice looking. Plenty of functions Bluetooth TuneIt app
Cons: Could use more information on the display A bit of a learning curve for the functions
I bought for my wife's Volkswagen. Wanted something easy to use for her.Great sound quality and plenty of power. Technical support at Crutchfield was very helpful.
Pros: Good quality at great price
Cons: None as of yet
I purchased this unit mainly for the Bluetooth and parametric EQ features. My Nokia Lumia 900 is listed in Alpine's guide as compatible. The phone works perfectly with the 6 other Bluetooth speakers/receivers it pairs with. The only time Bluetooth works properly with this Alpine unit is when using the "Zune" app that came with the phone (which I never use). With all other apps, the audio is barely audible (the same level the audio is at when you switch sources and the receiver seems to be processing something before deciding to play at full volume). Rhapsody, Pandora, Audible, Podcasts, web browser....none of them work. Only the Zune player and the telephone work properly. I've had to go back to the external Bluetooth receiver which was used with the old head unit this was suppose to replace. I'd return it if the weather was warmer, but it's cold and I don't want to do another uninstall/reinstall outside. Maybe a future phone will be more compatible. I would not recommend buying this without testing phone compatibility in a store beforehand.
Pros: 9 band parametric EQ adjustable down to 20hz.
Cons: Menus aren't intuitive. With everything set flat, the subwoofer output is extremely weak compared to the main channels. It's as if Alpine reduced it to make room for more "boost" options. The Bluetooth feature is app specific instead of simply taking audio from the phone and playing it through the receiver like most other devices.
Came quickly, installation was a breeze. Crutchfield means quality every time.
I wanted to replace my stock head unit and wanted to add blue tooth. This fit the bill. Has a lot of features I'll never use, but the $ was where I needed it to be.
At little over $100 for an open box unit, I think I got what people call it a steal. I've been thinking to myself lately why manufacturer's still put Compact Disc or CD-ROM reading capability as they are now obsolete with proliferation of solid state memory and smart phones. Then saw this product; originally thought "too good to be true..." I received in 2 days, and have to say, this unit have now firmly convinced me that the shining round disc will be forever hung up in history and Encyclopedia as historic media that has set the pace since the early 80's. Now the review; everything works flawlessly, though I do wished that the backlighting could be adjusted than just blue; because it does not match my '94 Miata's interior. But that's okay, for what I get out of this thing such as Pandora, BT streaming, handsfree, Serius (capability), AM/FM, USB, AUX, etc. can't complain really. Sounds much louder than the previous JVC Compact Disc head unit that came with the car (I got the car used) but with Kicker Hideaway (another purchase from Crutchfield) behind the passenger seat, it sounds fantastic. It does lack some high end but planning to replace the stock speakers anyway. I think it's a better set up than say Pioneer as they tend to over emphasize the high end which hurts my ears. Last note is Pandora connectivity, this seems to be my favorite right now, and to be honest, more convenient than Sirius/XM; it's okay now with ads but might go subscription.
Pros: Versatility, and look ma, no more CD!! Low cos, feature packet single DIN unit that did not empty my wallet.
Cons: Backlighting is fixed to Blue/White LCD.
Easy install. Sounds great, and really easy to hook up with the KTP 445A power pack. I have no idea what took me so long to do this relatively simple upgrade.
Pros: Looks pretty good. Easy to install. Easy to hook up Alpine power pack.
Cons: It will play Pandora through my phone, however it will not see it when the 'source' is Pandora... it will play Pandora through the BT Audio source. Not a big deal, and... So I either play Pandora using 'BT Audio' or play music from the 16 GB flash drive... they both work just fine. I would advise reading through the instruction manual BEFORE installation. That way when you first start it up you will know how to turn off demo mode. Just sayin'...
The receiver reboots when trying to use the Pandora app. This happens about half the time. This drops the rating for the receiver because i have to reset all my preferences all the time. I eventually gave up and mt clock is always wrong. My radio settings are always messed up. Everything else as far as function is awsome.
Pros: Improves sound dramatically Great price Bluetooth hands free
Cons: It resets when it has problems syncing with Pandora app.
The features of this unit are sweet. Pired right up with my iphone 5; handsfree calling is clear and easy with included mic; best part was discovering the app to control audio and other settings remotely. Happy with this choice!
Pros: Features galore, great sound.
Cons: None come to mind.
Works great and sounds great as well!
I just bought this with the PAC SWI-RC steering wheel control adapter for my '99 Dodge Durango SLT+ and I couldn't be happier. I have virtually no stereo install experience and installed it all in about 3 hours. The included instructions were awesome. The product itself is easy to use and is very responsive. I use the Bluetooth connectivity every time I use it and the hands free calling is better than the factory hands free Bluetooth system in my 2010 Camaro SS.
Pros: Good look, easy to use and install, good quality
Fits our lifestyle perfectly
Great sound quality and easy to install. only pain I have found is trying to get it out of demo mode.
Pros: Good sound, easy to program, easy to operate at night.
Cons: Pain to remove demo mode.
Great deck, with enough options for me.
Pros: 9 band eq... fast ipod response.. high pass front rear..Lots of bass control... I use tuneit by alpine so I could change the eq and such with my phone. The bt seems fine to me...
Cons: hard to use the eq... No low pass on the front and rear and the are combined. Tuneit was hard to get working
The only problem I had was getting it out of demo mode at the start. Sound quality is great and the blue tooth streaming is easy.
Pros: Well worth the price
Cons: Initial setup was in demo mode. I had to read the manual to get it out and do anything
A great stereo but takes some time to learn how to use it
Pros: Great sound, great look, great features
Cons: Complicated interface
I wanted to try the digital reciever. Who uses cds anymore? Not this guy. I have had it about 2 weeks and the sound quality is incredible. I paired it with a Alpine KTP-445A Power Pack (45x4) on my stock dodge dakota (regular cab) speakers and it sounds great. It all fits in the dash very neatly. I would recommend this to someone who wants a digital head unit and doesnt want to pay too much. Its the future people, we can leave our cds at home.
Pros: Tons of options, bass control is a plus if you use a sub, clean sound, plays every kind of music format.
Cons: Get the optional remote, its clunky to use at times when switching files/folders on flash drives. Thats why it got the 4 stars on ease of use.
I was looking for a radio that was easy to install and had 2 main features 1) Bluetooth connectivity for Pandora Awesome thing about the Pandora feature is that you don't even need to pull your phone out and click on the app for Pandora to start. It does it automatically. Turn on the car and it starts right up. You control everything through the unit. Thumbs up, station changes, etc. 2) Bluetooth calling The sound is crystal clear. enough said This unit satisfied both requirements Alpine has been my go to radio for years. This economically priced unit does not disappoint
Pros: Pandora, easy to program and navigate through menus, Tune It app
Cons: None I can think of.
As always, Alpine produces the top of the line products at good prices. Simplicity of operation and superior sound and power!
Alpine tech support was excellent in answering my question of how to show channel names when using Sirius.
Good improvement over stock as far as sound. Not amazing but with all the connections in the back it makes is easy to improve further. I might just go the route of adding the alpine amp that goes in the glove box instead of the conventional amps. That's the main reason I went with Alpine. Bluetooth works perfect.
Pros: Clean look. Lots of rear RCA outputs.
Cons: Colors don't change but not an issue for me.
Huge upgrade over stock radio. Great value
Pros: Great sound quality. To my surprise the stock speakers sound fairly good with this unit (I also run subwoofer). I was going to upgrade speakers too but I may just put it on hold now. I have no problems with BT from my Galaxy phone. I use it for calling, streaming music and map navigation. I like front panel USB and AUX inputs, it makes installation easier (IMHO)
Cons: I was lead to believe that time alignment can be done with Tuneit app. Not true for this headunit. MP3 meta data from USB drive gets truncated at certain number of characters. No support for non-latin UTF fonts. 2V preamp outputs which is not a big deal IMHO.
I wanted a deck that could easily link to my phone (samsungs4) so I could use the hands free and pandora. Works great! Just what I wanted.
Pros: Easily connects to bluetooth! Great sound for what I need! Alpine Tuneit! Access phone contacts
Cons: Display is pretty simple, but what do you expect for the price!
The quality and sound of this stereo surprised me! Very easy to use and sounds really good! Bluetooth is almost CD quality. I like the TuneIt application.. It works great! I paired it up with two sets of Rockford Fosqate separates without an amp and the sound is fantastic!
Pros: Easy to use, great features, good options & price. TuneIt application is cool. BT sounds good.
Cons: Can't change color
Was really hoping for a lot more out of this unit. Alpine let me down! Don't get me wrong, the music and podcast sound quality are good, but not great. But the sound quality of a phone call and map directions, sucks! The adjustments for this are lame and might as well not exist for all the good they do. Tried talking to Alpine tech support but they were as helpful as a flat tire. This unit replaced a 20 year old Blaupunkt cassette deck/tuner. I was using a cassette to run my iphone thru the unit. And the sound quality all around was twice the quality of this new Alpine unit. I will be reinstalling the old Blaupunkt and chalking this purchase up to "buyer beware"!!
Pros: Respectable music and podcast sound. Direct USB input
Cons: Bad, Bad, Bad telephone sound quality. Complicated. 49 page English manual! Jeez!Crutchfield response on 9/24/2014 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
This is a great unit, has every thing I need for my mustang. Installation was easy and had only one issue, it was shorter than the factory unit so the rear mounting screw / post had to be extended about 1/2 inch. Other than that it's great.
Pros: Easy to use and to install
Cons: Rear mounting post too short, probably cuz I have on old car
Alpine makes a great reciever and this is no exception. Install was simple. Using a USB drive could be a little better in terms of the display.
Pros: Great sound and quality
This unit is very complete. Lots of tuning features. very clear sound quality highly recommend.
Sound quality is awesome. Easy to install.
Pros: Bluetooth technology.
This radio installed easily replacing a two year old Sony that gave up the ghost. It connects quickly to Bluetooth devices and the handsfree phone works very well. The main reason I picked this radio is that it has a clock that you can set to always display if you want.
Great deck. The manual came on a cd so I printed it off. The high pass filter and the sub low pass filter are awsome features. I haven't figured out the pandora link yet but I'm sure it will be what I use the most as soon as I figure out how to use it. I plugged a flash drive in and it works great.
I installed this unit 2 weeks ago in my 87 Mustang V-8 Hatch. I used the wiring harness adapter and the install kit that came with it and it fit perfect. The faceplate color and texture match the dash well and it has an original look, not bolt on. I am using the original speakers so I can't evaluate the sound yet, but I does everything well. My only gripe is the size of the buttons, and legibility. I admit my eyes are not what they used to be so a younger owner might not have the issues I have. It is nice to have a head unit that I can use wireless with my iPhone. It synced without any troubles and works well.
Pros: Easy install, looks great, iPhone and iPod work easily.
Cons: small buttons
I have multiple alpine products and they are all top notch quality. I bought this head unit to replace my old pioneer stereo and the change is insane. The highs and mids are way better! I have hooked up to 2 Alpine type R 12 in and it sounds phenomenal! I'm looking forward to having a full alpine system soon with Type R speakers in the front and back
Pros: Loud Clean sound Looks great Easy to use Bluetooth
Cons: Nothing it's Alpine it's always great
Radio is good and it seems to sound better through the iPhone I have than the first
Pros: Radio is really easy to operate and sounds good . Not so many bells and whistles that it is impossible to operate .
Cons: The mounting hardware was a little flimsy Had a hard time getting the radio to stay in the cage at first it wanted to fall through it
Extremely happy with this purchase. Incredibly user friendly, and easy to install. Great price. Installed in a 1997 Toyota Camry XLE.
Bought this as my son's first stereo for his 2000 Chevy S-10. I always had Alpines when I was a kid, and they still are a great buy. Had all the features we needed - Bluetooth, remote microphone, Bass engine, front USB and AUX, etc. Then it has loads of other features. The Bluetooth is smart too - syncs with his phone within seconds of getting in, and picks up right where he left off. Awesome/easy installation for his first time.
Pros: Crystal clear bluetooth from iPhone (better than my wife's Town & Country)
Cons: Siri sync is "finicky"
Excellent head unit with all the bells and whistles for the modern audiophile. Sirius, Pandora, usb input. What more could one want? No hassle installation too!
This unit fit and works well in a 2000 Ford SD diesel
Pros: Easy to install and set up. The Crutchfield Tech was knowledgeable and coached me on exactly how to remove the old Ford radio. IT was giving me problems on one side. I ended up turning one of the jaws out on a woodworking squeeze clamp and used it to push the removal tool handles to the point of bending. The clamp held the pressure on the handle so I could jiggle it loose.
Cons: If the unit has a loss of power, it will not retain its configuration so I had to put all the Bluetooth and sound settings back in the unit. TuneIt App also results in loss of Bluetooth setting whe you load a new config--or I'm doing something wrong.
I have a 2007 Mustang, devoid of many of the modern creature comforts of today's cars. I had been listening to music from my Ipod/Iphone through the aux jack. But, the long cord dangling from my armrest was an eye sore. I never liked to answer the phone while driving (still don't) but there are those calls I know are important and must be answered. This deck does an awesome job of allowing me to hit a button I can access easily and clearly answer the phone. It is nice to be able to get in the car and drive away without hooking up my phone. One thing that does not seem to work well is SIRI. Music comes in clear, but she sounds like she is on a really crackily phone call. She has a hard time understanding my commands. I hope to find a reason why. My commands go through about half of the time. I did have to get a second microphone sent to me because the first just quit altogether. Crutchfield was courteous and fast acting. I just had to send the broken one back. UPS was rude however. The stereo was as easy to put in as you would think any installation would be. Normal tools and help from friends (although one has home stereo installation experience) gets it in in an afternoon. Upon mounting the BT microphone, be careful with the cord, and mount it on the visor with the supplied clip. the adhesive loses its stick in the heat. I pulled the trim panel on the A pillar out and tucked the wire under for a clean install. On the visor, the mic is not a glaring to thieves.
Pros: Great for a person who wants Bluetooth capability. Just do not rely on Siri. Calls come in clear and the person on the other end can hear you well. I do not have Pandora, but it is setup for it.
Cons: The mic needs to be placed closer to the driver for best audio reception. Siri does not come in clear and only understands you half of the time. Be careful with the mic cord, too.
It's great that I can do away with one more bulky thing in my vehicle. I used to have one of those huge 250 cd briefcases back in the day. With that being said, I personally haven't purchased a cd since digital downloads became the norm about 10 years ago. I'm very happy to say that I love my Alpine digital media head unit. Feel like changing it up in a hurry? Load up your fresh downloads on your flash drive and go. The search and jog dial make it easier than ever to find your desired flavor.
Pros: Everything you want in a digital media receiver, works with Android.
Awesome unit. Love the Bluetooth capabilities, I just get in my truck turn the key and it automatically connects to my phone and starts playing music. Can't beat the price and the support of crutchfield. Thank you very much.
Pros: Sound, price, and Bluetooth
I really like the bass feature on this Receiver. It was very easy to install and the features are great. It is also pretty easy to operate! Sounds fantastic too!
Pros: Great value for the features it has. Easy to operate
Nice value and quality for the money.
I really like this head unit. I have been stricken with a very tight car audio budget. This is due to my decision to get married, purchase a home, and begin breeding. This unit tips the scales in value vs. price in favor of value. I actually kinda feel like I took advantage of you, Crutchfield, and never called you afterward. Thank you for offering such great products at such great prices, and for the support team, available even on the weekends! Also, thank you for understanding that I am pretty selfish, and after this paragraph, probably won't be calling unless I want something from you. We're cool, right?
Pros: See above
Cons: I am having a difficult time syncing my Note 2 for the bluetooth option. Maybe I should read the instructions.
The head unit is great. I replaced my stock Mach 460 sound system in my 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra convertible. I needed the head unit to allow me to turn the music up when my top is down. I loose too much sound when my top is down but the factory stereo caps the loudness of the music. The Alpine head unit took the gloves off of the stereo. I was concerned that this install would not work because of the complexities that Ford built into its stock, amplified stereo. But the combo of Alpine and Crutchfield helped solve my problem and made the install go well. Starting with my call to Crutchfield to learn more about what product I needed and how difficult the install would be, I was very skeptical that Crutchfield would have a product that would seamlessly integrate with my stereo given that I was still going to use the factory amps and my after-market powered subwoofer. The adviser steered me to the right product then set me up with the integration harnesses. I was not sure if I could pull off the install. I used their detailed instructions and mad a couple of tech calls on a Sat from Seattle to their call center, which is 3 hours ahead. I expected to get a tech person who was bottom of the barrel, accepting to work for the company on a beautiful Sat in the summer. To my curprise, knowledgable techs answered the phone and my questions easily. I made about 4 calls during the install. That said, I could not be happier with the outcome, all due to Crutchfield.
Pros: Knowledge of Tech and Sales people
Great unit! Very easy install in 04 civic. Now I need new speakers
Pros: Good design, ease of use, quality product, good value
Cons: none yet
Installed this receiver in a 2000 Ford Focus for my son. It has great sound quality, the alpine app is really cool, and people today don't need a CD player. My son doesn't even have any CD's.
Pros: Connects to phone using Bluetooth very quickly. Great sound quality. Cool app.
I had recently bought a 2010 VW Beetle, so 1st thing I wanted to do was remove the standard unit for something with Bluetooth, hands free calling, & front-facing USB. This had all that! I wanted something with no CD slot, which this also had going for it.
Pros: Bluetooth Hands free calling Easy install - with the harness & faceplate kit Crutchfield provided Mic has a long cord
Cons: The only con I can think of is maybe the settings controls, but after reading the manual & getting a things setup, that's not an issue.
Great little radio for then price. Sirius comes in great and, thankfully, without that awful receiver hanging in the inside of the front windshield. BT works great, also.
Pros: Bang for the buck.
Cons: None, so far.
Overall a pretty good radio. I love the bluetooth. I have an Galaxy S3 and it was super simple to connect it. The sound is better than the stock head unit it replaced.
Pros: No CD mechanism. Able to turn off the onboard amp and use only the pre-outs.
Cons: I had issues getting the head unit to lock in to its mounting sleeve.
As usual this stands up to Alpine quality of my past purchases. This has a lot of options for a head unit under $150. The instruction manual is a must to navigate for the first time, maybe even first few. But using the manual isn't a bad thing. Navigating without a touch screen is difficult on almost every head unit, deal with it and stop whining if you don't like that. No it's not flashy but it's also an inexpensive unit. Bluetooth is OUTSTANDING and connects flawlessly, make sure you adjust the input volume on the head unit so it doesn't distort! The ability to use siri is great, I have not tried yet so I will not comment on ease of use. Make sure the external microphone is included, mine wasn't but as usual Crutchfield has one on the way. I have tinkered with the sound adjustments and they are very good, not like a separate processor and/or equalizer but it's good enough for me and I like to have mine almost perfect. Make sure you turn off demo mode or it will annoy you beyond belief. Tuneit works well but don't get crazy unless you really know about sound staging or you will be confused and hate it very fast. Make sure you have an iPod/iPhone cable to connect or the app will not work. Although Pandora control is included I heart radio can be used without problems. I never use Pandora because of the ads! Don't listen to reviews complaining about using the different features; a car stereo has limited space for buttons and sometimes they must control multiple features!
Pros: Many features for the price
Cons: Bluetooth microphone is only external
For the money, it's WELL worth it. First Alpine I've ever owned and am very pleased
Pros: Low price Tunit app Great sound quality
Cons: Not a whole lot of customization with filters (hpf, & lpf)
This unit gets the job done. It is not a strikingly great looking deck, but doesn't look bad. The build quality is good but not great. The sound quality is what you expect from Alpine, very clear. Setup is easy but not necessarily intuitive. I had to read the directions, which isn't a bad thing. It's perfect for anyone that doesn't want the overhead of a CD player, wants the convenience of Bluetooth and the convenience of a front USB. The sound quality is better via USB. I'm using both an iPhone 4S and an iPad Air and they work seamlessly via Bluetooth and USB. I replaced an older premium alpine with this one because it was the best Alpine had to offer without a CD player.
Pros: No Cd Player Sound is above average for this price point value Seamless Bluetooth front USB
Cons: Build quality is average Coolness factor, kind of plain Display is average
I installed this unit in my Jeep grand cherokee. Display is nice and bright, easily readable on sunny days at the beach. Audio quality is great, love the way the unit looks. My only complaint after getting it is the menu navigation. I frequently play music from a USB flash drive and finding specific songs is a bit of a pain. It doesn't always list the tracks in alphabetical filename order, and with only 1 line of text it's hard to find a song in a folder with 100 other randomly listed songs. Much easier to use the BT function and navigate the songs on my android device. BT audio works great and connects almost instantly. BT call quality could be better, as sometimes the other person reports static. But this is a really solid stereo for the price; very happy with it despite the little annoyances.
Pros: Bluetooth, display brightness, sound quality, price
Cons: Menu navigation, usb audio playback
A great buy ! Awsome sound on a budget , Crutchfield makes it almost to easy , thanks to the Crutchfield team ! S
Pros: Sound quality , low price , step by step instructions, everything you need for install
Cons: Should have made the order sooner
Reception is very good. Bluetooth is great , phone mic. is great . Sound quality is great. Alpine will always be the head unit to buy , Alpine's sound is and will be it's own
Cons: The old style volume was very much wanted though, it was a click style and was able to feel more quality in control knob .building .
I love it!! My cell phone never leaves my pocket; my music starts playing automatically right where it left off; the hands-free use of my phone is awesome!
Pros: quality, bluetooth, easy to use
So far so good. If you listening to your music on bluetooth audio and sync your phone to charge it your music will pause an you will have to un pause it. Depending how load your are listening to music determines the ability to hear someone on a phone call. Setup will no problem just make sure you take your unit off demo mode so it won't keep displaying
Great product and easy install.
Cons: Can be difficult to navigate menus at first.
The CD is dead, for all intents and purposes. Why there are so few Digital Media Receivers on the market yet is beyond me, but there are comparatively very few. I don't know if this one is the best on the market (though it was the top ranked DMR on the various head unit ratings websites I checked before purchasing), but it is a pretty good head unit. Easy to install...even easier with Crutchfield's exceptionally good instructions. This head unit has everything I want and need for listening to music in the car. So far everything has been a breeze to set up. The instructions that came with the unit are a little lacking, and apparently machine translated to English from some other language, but not all that bad. I like the fact there are several different ways to adjust the settings, such as simple bass/treble.balance/fade, preset EQ (ie: "Rock", "Pop", "Classical", etc), or completely custom 9-band. In addition, you can assign certain settings to certain inputs, so if your phone and Sirius receiver have different audio output ranges, you can custom set each one so you aren't knocked silly when you switch between input methods.
Pros: No CD slot to collect dust and dog hair while not ever being used because no one uses CDs anymore. (Hardly anyway)
Cons: Nothing yet.
This deck is good for the person that does not need or want a CD player. I have all of my music on my iPhone 5S and can play it just fine. I like the phone interface better than the deck interface for navigating music. The Pandora sync is OK but I do not like using the interface from the deck which trys to take control. It is just to hard to switch to different stations, especially while driving. Lets face it we listen to music while we drive. The color of the deck (blue) does make it hard to drive at night it is a little bright for me. I used ITune from Alpine and it does make setting up your stereo a little easier, but it will not allow you to change the settings while the vehicle is in motion. You can change it on the deck though.
Pros: Great features for the price range
Cons: Difficult interface for music play from phones (if you use the deck)
Excellent quality product. Does everything its supposed to do and more.
Pros: Bluetooth, aux hookups, sound quality
Cons: Little difficult to set up
Easy installation. Crutchfield provides all the needed parts and a price below big chain stores and other online retailers. Bluetooth connects quick, sound quality is excellent and connects easily with the Alpine KTP-445A amp. I am an Android phone user and this Alpine streams my Google Play All Access subscription beautifully. I have it installed in my 94 GMC Sierra single cab. Fits nicely.
Pros: Integrates smoothly with Alpine KTP-445A amp. No need to run amp kit to battery. It is powered off head unit.
Easy to install sounds very good with the speakers I installed
Pros: Good sound
Cons: Confusing on how to set up, needs better instruction manual
Exactly as advertised. extremely simple to set up. considering I bought my truck sans stereo I have nothing to compare it to, but I have spotify on my android, and the bluetooth works seamlessly. no problems just beats.
Pros: clean, simple, nothing too fancy, just high quality.
Cons: had it for two weeks. cant think of anything.
I am loving it so far!! Love using BT for my music. Great sound quality!
Awesome radio for a good price!
Pros: Bluetooth/ aux/usb
good quality for the price, easy to install
With loss of my cassette and cd. This was just the replacement I needed.
Pros: Aux bluetooth and usb. Big plus
Great product with easy installation. The harness provided matched up perfectly. The sound is great and it works with Android and iPhone.
Pros: Android and iPhone compatible. Easy installation Bluetooth
Cons: Can't change colors
Easy to install great sound easy set up
Installed unit in a 2006 Ford F-150 Supercab with (1) old Zapco 200W amp driving (2) Pioneer shallow 10" drivers in a custom enclosure under the rear seat and another 200W Zapco amp driving Alpine 5-1/2" door speakers with separate tweeters. System rocks. Alpine head unbelievable for the price, Bluetooth will control the stereo to about 10ft outside the truck. Direct link via USB increases sound quality quite a bit. Still researching all the Alpine head can do, there are a lot of menus. Great unit. Crutchfield shipped quick, arrived in perfect shape with all we needed to complete install. Will buy from Crutchfield again.
Pros: Alpine UTE-52BT : Great value, Crutchfields Install Package (free) really made it easy.
Cons: Unit a little hard to set up, but well worth the time researching the set up in the Owners Manual.
Great head unit quality built and great sound, easy to use, would recommend to anyone!
Pros: Easy to use
I'm heading north for a month and thought it's about time I brought a 1995 Tahoe into this century. Phone, playlists, Satellite and no CD's! Very logical install although it was a bit tight with supplied setup. Sound quality would be great with new speakers ... maybe later. Not very instinctive to use but it's getting there.
Cons: A bit complicated to use
awesome bang for your buck !!!
Pros: best quality
Cons: learning the complex system
I bought this aftermarket stereo to add a system to my vehicle. It has all the features I need to use my Alpine amps and JBL loudspeakers to go with that. Installation was a breeze and it sounds better than before. I am very pleased with this stereo.
Pros: Bluetooth connectivity, L.E.D. display and of course the 6 channel outputs.
I bought this and it was exactly what I needed. I did not need all the bells and whistles, but still wanted a quality product and this was it.
Pros: Easy to use and install. Does exactly what it says it will do.
Cons: None really except that it is basic. If you want the colors, big screens or things like that this is not for you. But it is a great deck.
Bough this on the recommendation of the Crutchfield expert. It was exactly what I wanted, installed easily, fit perfectly with the kit, and sounds awesome! Now I have music in my Jeep just in time for summer.
I used to install stereos professionally and Alpine has always done me right. I have installed an Alpine deck in two of my vehicles and would not choose any other. You can't go wrong with this great stereo!
Pros: Easy to use, looks nice and clean and was easy to install. Bluetooth and hands-free works very well and the call quality matches that of a factory hands free device.
Cons: I am sure there are some but none to list at the moment.
This is a great deck for the modern times. The Bluetooth audio function is a great tool to have. Is advertised as a pandora friendly deck but with BT it streams any audio from your phone (your library, iheart, beats etc.) with no wires! And making hands free calls is a great addition to keep your eyes on the road.
Cons: The only thing noticed was I was told using the phone that it sounded like I was "calling from inside a bucket."
For the price, this HU can't be beat. Maybe it can, I didn't try out any others. HOWEVER, in the few weeks I've had it installed I've been extremely pleased. Installation was a snap thanks to the supplied harnesses and dash kit. Immediately I could tell a MUCH improved audio quality over the stock Honda HU. Integration with my iPhone was a snap. Bluetooth works flawlessly. Siri has a habit of flaking, but I think that's an iOS issue. My only gripes are the build quality seems slightly flimsy (the faceplate weighs nothing and doesn't exactly snap in with reassuring clickiness), and the iPhone app is less than useless. The lack of a CD player doesn't but me in the least as I haven't played a disc in years. I'm sure for audiophiles the sound quality isn't the best, but for a dad in a base Honda CRV, it's awesome. Very happy with this purchase.
Pros: Easy installation, lots of settings and options, powered USB on faceplate + aux jack, good sound quality, fairly easy to operate.
Cons: Busy face with small buttons, Siri integration is flaky, useless iPhone app.
Great value for the price point. I was looking for a unit that would enable me to use satellite radio as well as blue tooth (primary function).. Install was easy with the provided kit from Crutchfield.. Sound quality is great!
Pros: Great sound, blue tooth pairs great with my iphone 4s. Streaming audio quality has been absolutely perfect.
Cons: Extensive menus that are a pain to cull thru. Pairing Bluetooth initially was difficult, but now works perfectly every time. Setting phone audio quality has been difficult, but ease of use outweighs any negatives.
Very happy with the Bluetooth on this unit as I drive a lot for business and need a clear phone connection. In that aspect it succeeds well. I also listen to SiriusXM for music and the Alpine falls miles short from the factory radio in my Volvo S80. The music used to sound open and clear, with deep, full bass and sparkling highs like the front row of a concert hall, but with the Alpine it sounds cheap, thin and compressed like a cheapo aftermarket unit.
Pros: Bluetooth connectivity, usb and micro aux inputs. Looks good. Removable faceplate for the paranoid.
Cons: Poor musical quality. Controls are confusing for those unfamiliar with the unit.
Great product overall. Love the bluetooth streaming. No need for cds nowadays!
Pros: built-in bluetooth is definitely a plus and the major reason I bought this stereo.
Cons: TuneIT app is pretty much useless. No support for windows phone
I really like this unit. Bluetooth is nice, although there are times when it won't automatically. On ECG to my iPhone via bluetooth. I am still working on adjusting the mic settings for hands free calling, but it works pretty well when there is not much ambient noise. Crutchfield is great! Everything I needed was included of easily ordered along with the unit.
Good economical option to get away from the factory HU and add in-vehicle Bluetooth hands free calling.
This head unit is like no other. The blue tooth is a great feature. Easy installation. Love the sound quality.
Pros: Advanced technology. Looks great, lots of options
Cons: Not to easily operated at night
I has all the features (USB, bluetooth, power) that I wanted. Great upgrade from factory unit in my Tacoma.
Pros: Sounds good, no mechanical CD drive to fail.
Cons: The unit is strange in the way it sorts tracks on a USB flash drive. The manual states that tracks will play back in the order they were written to the disk. That's not entirely correct. USB flash drives use the FAT file system. The tracks will play in the order they appear in the FAT. If you want them to play in any other order you need to use a utility that changes the order in the FAT. I used fatsort.
Great unit.. Fit perfect per the Crutchfield teams help
Pandora and usb does not work with galaxy s 3
Cons: Bought for pandora controll, doesnt work!!!
I am very happy with this head unit. It is very easy to get use to. I have owned many Alpine head units and this one is by far my favorite. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a smart phone or a device with all of your music on it so you don't have to mess with changing CD's.
This product has more than met my expectations in a head unti. I've never had to install my own stereo and I was able to do it with little issues. I did need to call customer support and was amazed by the service I received. As fair as it is, had the customer service experience had been different this review would be aimed in a different direction. This Alpine has so many options I've not tried everything out yet.
Pros: Bluetooth, enhancement to sound, sleek look
Cons: Bluetooth phone calls. I have a Jeep so I can't crack on the quality too hard. Tuneit doesnt seem to work well (still determining if user error is the case)
This unit works well with my iPhone 5. Bluetooth streaming has great sound quality and connects quickly. Bluetooth phone calls are good quality and the included remote mic is a nice touch at this low price point. The overall build quality seems like a step down from previous alpine head units but acceptable initially. The faceplate seems cheaper and the buttons and vol knob are not as sure feeling. We will see if it holds up as well as my previous ones. The unit has a pretty extensive range of menus that allow you to customize it and tune it for your application and preferences. Overall for the price you cant beat it.
Pros: Low price, highly customizable, full featured
I've always loved Alpine stuff. Every vehicle I have owned gets it. This is the first time I have bought anything from Crutchfield. No shipping and fast processing is nice. The only thing was my microphone for my Bluetooth was not in the box.
Pros: Fast and easy.
Cons: The microphone that is supposed to be included was not in the box.
Ordered this unit when my head unit died on my 2005 Dodge Ram. I was interested in a digital media unit since my family doesn't use disc's when we are traveling. I was also deciding between a HD unit or a Sirius XM unit. I did not find a HD unit within my needs, and thought I would buy this unit with the Sirius XM attachment. This was a simple install thanks to the directions and the supports of Crutchfield. I went ahead and soldered the wire and heat shrinked to make sure the connection is secure. The dash comes apart and it was a bit tight adding the Sirius XM module behind the unit, but it fit with a little of finesse. Bluetooth wire hid behind the dash and attached to the driver's side sun visor with no kink or problems.
Pros: No disc slot for dust to collect. No extra cutting to fit. Fits my truck fine. Good Bluetooth sound and connection.
Cons: Alpine app is horrible. Doesn't come with a remote (I don't use anyway, but others in price range have one). Read the manual. On mine, one of the buttons sticks a bit.
I wanted a replacement radio for my newly aquired 1088 Corrvette Callaway Classic that would not impair the ability to re-install the original radio of the time. The Alpine was just the ticket, at below my anticipated price, and ease in installation and appearance. This radio enables me to drive to car chows, with the bluetooth phone and with MP3 music.to and at the shows. I love this radio.
Pros: All pros
Cons: No cons
This unit is very simple to operate and seems to work very well. Sound quality is very good and the blue tooth function for both phone calls and streaming audio works great, sounds great, and is very easy to use. The only thing I would improve is the actual display. For the money I would highly recommend this unit.
Pros: Easy to use, great sound quality
Cons: No CDs, display could me more modern
Easy install. Nice upgrade to 20+yr OEM.
Pros: Modern look but not out of place in car. USB and bluetooth important additions.
Cons: Fitment kit needs to be modified for perfect fit and look.
This is a awesome stereo. I replaced my stereo in my 96 dodge 2500 cummins diesel. It has 5" exhaust turbo back and the Bluetooth phone call system works GREAT!! I worried it would be too much background noise, it wasn't. The unit works great, the only thing I have a issue with is the clock. I set the clock, then for some reason I cannot get it to display the time. I'm sure there's a way, I just found it yet. Not having a CD player is nice too. I haven't used CDs in years. This is a must have for iPhone users
Pros: No CD, Bluetooth phone calls, Bluetooth music/podcast
Cons: Can't display the clock/time
Every bit of quality sound and construction as Alpine's higher end models
Pros: Clean amp/ lots of customization, 9 band eq, easy Bluetooth paying/clean sounding streaming
Cons: Menu could be easier
For the price this is a great price. I no longer use cd's any longer, so this works great.
Pros: Sound quality is great
Cons: No cons at this point
Good unit. Especially for the price
Pros: Value. Love the bt audio
Cons: Phone calls are tinny sounding thru speakers
This radio is a great value for the money. Looks great, sounds great and integrates nicely with the siriusxm module ( purchased separately ). The only issue I have is with the Bluetooth for phone calls. I am told their is an awful echo by the folks I speak to. Could be related to the placement of the microphone. I just have not had a chance to troubleshoot further.
It took no time to install. Came with a wiring diagram that was easy to follow. Overall very impressed. The Bluetooth connects very quick and works flawlessly.
Pros: Good sound quality Bluetooth connect quick Cheap but doesn't seem cheap
Cons: Haven't found any
I have been installing Alpine head units exclusively in vehicles for over 25 years. I have never had a complaint with Alpine. I have the old UTE-42BT's installed in several of my vehicles & I love them. I went to purchase another one & found it'd be superseded by the UTE-52BT. The UTE-52BT is a nightmare; you can't control Pandora through your phone, you have to use the head unit (which sucks compared to an iPhone). The TuneIt app to control it costs $3.99 & is worthless (It's just 5 EQ settings that historically are just controlled through the head unit & a bunch of random peoples EQ settings that you can use [aint nobody got time for that!]). The Bluetooth is a nightmare too, even if you're not in Bluetooth mode, when you make a phone call, it cuts out your music & starts ringing through your speakers obscenely loud.then the person on the other end can't even hear you.& the button on your iPhone to switch back to iPhone source doesn't work. Bluetooth just keeps taking over & the person on the disgruntled person on other end just hangs up. The adjustments are also a nightmare, I've never once had to call up a tech to help set up an Alpine receiver because they've always been so straight forward that even a gangster loc'd out on gin & juice can control them. this one is incredibly complicated & there are all kinds of hidden keys & strange ways of accessing the ridiculous amount of menus. Even the tech thought the process was ridiculous. UTE-52BT=debris
Pros: Great Alpine sound quality.
Cons: -Can't control Pandora through your iPhone & controlling it through the head unit suck (you'll just end up unplugging your phone, changing Pandora stations & replugging in your phone. -Bluetooth is obscene & cuts out your music no matter what, unless you disable it altogether & play your music through a direct cable link. -The controls are ridiculously overcomplicated (I might add that I'm a bomb technician & fairly intelligent). -The TuneIt app is a crock - rip off.
It's a simple head unit that makes good use of the phone I paid dearly for. I wanted an interface between my phone and my amplifiers with the ability to equalize and tune for my car. Alpine has done a pretty good job of it. It replaced an IDA-305 (pre-tuneit) which was 2.5 times more expensive and basically does the exact same thing--minus a few tuning features: timing and slopes on the LPF and HPF. Not sure if that is limited by the Alpine tuneit app (which is just "ok") or the head unit. Install was no different than any other head unit. Its not beautiful or fancy, but it does most of what I want for the right cost.
Pros: Cost for features ease of use sound quality uses phone cables for connectivity
Cons: I owned head units with nicer displays in the 90's Can't turn off the built-in amplifier Some of the advanced tuning features available in the Tuneit app are not available for this unit.
Just installed the RECEIVER, BT WORKS GREAT, no more wires to tangle with my I5. Sounds much better than previous radio more power too. I don't use CDs anymore so I got this unit. Very nice unit, oh yeah phone feature works great.
Great head unit for the price.
Receiver was delivered yesterday and I had it in my truck this morning along with a new pair of Kicker 5 1/4" speakers. The entire install took less than 90 minutes. The sound difference between the extra power of the receiver and the new speakers is absolutely phenomenal! The Alpine was pretty easy to use (I still haven't looked at the owner's manual for anything other than wiring - phone is hooked up to it, used the tune it app to get the sound just right). Overall great product! One thing to mention that I hadn't been able to find is that this has a detachable face also!
Pros: Good power, clean sound!
Cons: None yet!
Bought this stereo for my 02 Silverado. It fit perfectly with the supplied install kit. Only took me about an hour. I choose it for its features and price. The bluetooth works great with my android based phone for streaming music. Haven't tried using it for calls. It powers the Alpine 610c installed in the doors and sounds great. I'm really pleased with it so far. I also have the SiriusXM receiver, makes long trips more enjoyable.
Pros: This unit works great. I would recommend it highly.
Cons: None so far.

You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to control advanced music navigation.
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.
Bluetooth Sound Quality Adjustments: You can customize the sound of your Bluetooth hands-free experience to fit your own preferences. You can adjust the UTE-52BT's mic gain, phone output, & ring tone volume. If that's not enough, there are 5 sound quality settings to choose from to get the balance just right for you. This is replacing a 103BT which has been a flawless unit for Bluetooth phone and listening to audio books through the USB port. Looking forward to the advanced BT to stream my online libraries of books and audio, inc podcasts. A side benefit is that these mech-less head units are not as deep which is helpful in the tight spaces of newer dashes.[ Geoffrey Feb 26, 2017 ]

I have always liked Alpine radios, and this unit seems like a good value. I needed to upgrade my 2001 Suburban stock radio, but did not want to put a unit in that was worth more than the vehicle. I like the ability of BT and digital media since I do not carry CD's any more in my car.[ Todd Dec 29, 2015 ]
I was looking for a CD less digital media focused head unit for an older car that I am restoring. For my needs, I compared this against the Blaupunkt Brisbane and this seemed to have the features I wanted with Bluetooth, Sirius xm compatibility, USB and aux input in the front instead of the rear like other head units. Also, the overall reviews were solid for this unit which also provided guidance when deciding. The price was very reasonable given the features.[ Brandon Dec 23, 2015 ]

Too bright, let me know if you find a way to turn it down at night, it's blinding and the manual is pretty vague.[ Wes Oct 17, 2016 ]
The only time I am unable to see the display is if the sun is shining directly on it. My dashboard (where the unit is mounted) is at an angle though so if mounted differently I don't think I'd get the same result. I use mine for BT Audio primarily so I control everything I'm listening to from my phone. I only look at the display when I want to check the time. Unfortunately, no. This unit does not have any rear inputs with the exception of the microphone input. I would use the Apple sync cable to the front USB input. Audio quality and control of your device is excellent using the front USB. I got a 6" coiled sync cable to keep things tidy.[ Dave Jun 08, 2016 ]

When I installed this deck in my daughters CRV i didn't get the microphone plug all the way in the receiver and it didn't work. I found the issue and plugged in all the way and got it working but had to refine the placement so that the noise under the dash was not so overbearing. I fabricated a plate from black ABS material to fit on the dash with a hole drilled so the mic fit in snug. I originally didn't have the mic protruding out far enough and it was picking up noise from under/behind the dash that washed out the voice. Once I slid the mic further out into the cabin the caller was able to hear her voice clearly on calls. Hope this was of use.[ Joe Dec 18, 2015 ]

I use this radio with an iPhone. The phone will charge from its USB, but the radio will also connect to it, and grab the bluetooth away from my headset. Its a hassle, so I carry an old 120 GB ipod for music. Additionally, the radio in this unit is horrible, If I knew how bad it was I wouldn't have bought it.[ LOU Jul 07, 2015 ]

I am using it with a Nexus 5 and have done so on both Jellybean and Lollipop. The only issue I have had is with it finding Pandora on my Phone every time. Often I have to turn the stereo off and on to get it to reconnect through Pandora. So I couldn't help with your specific phone.[ BENJAMIN Jan 02, 2015 ]
I don't know if the Bluetooth working with that phone i have an iPhone[ Arnulfo Jan 02, 2015 ]
Thanks everybody; think I'll try her out.[ Tyler Dec 21, 2014 ]
When the phone is connected via BT then you will use it (the phone) to change stations/songs. You can also use the deck to skip tracks. To use the receiver in 'pandora mode' it must be plugged into the usb port and you cannot use the phone to control it. Personally I only use this reciever in BT mode.Yes, once the phone is paired with the reciever it only plays through the vehicle speakers.[ GRAHAM Dec 19, 2014 ]
I do not have an iPhone but these do work with my Galaxy S5. Yes you can change/select songs as it has a built-in pandora feature. You can even launch pandora from the head unit instead of turning it on from your phone. Sound will not play through you phone once connected via bluetooth, so you'll be okay. Only downside I have with this head unit is the buttons are pretty cheap. The track skip buttons don't click after only using it for about 2 weeks. Still works but doesn't feel like you are clicking.[ SHAHIN Dec 19, 2014 ]
You can control playback with your phone or the receiver. Also, the sound doesn't come out of your phone speaker while it is synced with your phone, which for me, is the whole time I'm in the car. Yeah, controlling with the receiver is much more difficult than using the phone, though I do use the track up/down buttons from time to time. No specific comment on Pandora as I've never used that feature in the car. I use Google Play Music and dig it.[ JEREMIAH L Dec 19, 2014 ]
Yes. Only over the car speakers. Also, the sound quality is better if you plug it in to the USB vs bluetooth[ JOHN Dec 19, 2014 ]

Yes, this head unit will stream directly from an Ipod or an Android device using either Bluetooth or an Aux cable no matter the app that either device is using. I love this unit would highly recommend it[ REYNALDO Nov 14, 2014 ]
I have used an iPod with usb port-works fine[ LAWRENCE Nov 14, 2014 ]
Hi Peter, I use this with my iPhone over Bluetooth to stream from the Music app and from the Podcast app. I used the USB cord connection as well before I got the Bluetooth working. It works great, though has a tendency to turn on the Music app by default even if I was listening to Podcasts the last time I was in the car. If you are more interested in music this won't bother you. I had a little trouble with the install, but have only done 2 car stereos myself. Since a friend helped me finish up (Bluetooth phone connection) I have liked this stereo a lot.[ KARA Nov 13, 2014 ]
The radio reception with this radio sucks. I wouldn't buy another. But it does support Bluetooth and usb audio from your smartphone.[ LOU Nov 13, 2014 ]
I seem to be only able to get Pandora to stream when using the Bluetooth connection, but not through the radio's Pandora source button. The music works, but I can't give a thumbs up or down using the radio's buttons. However, using the same feature, I am able to easily stream music from my iTunes on my iPhone very easily.[ ERIC Nov 13, 2014 ]
It's not limited. I use Spotify from my android phone almost exclusively. Everything is controlled through the phone though. With the unit I think there are shortcuts for Pandora so you don't have to mess with your phone while driving.[ PAUL Nov 13, 2014 ]
It will stream the music that is coming from the device and does not limit it to just Pandora. I have used the BT for several different applications.[ JUSTIN Nov 13, 2014 ]
I have used this with Google Play Music on my Nexus 5 and can browse through my library.[ BENJAMIN Jan 02, 2015 ]
This unit only has the pandora app that can be fully controlled through the receiver. When I use my cell phone with bluetooth to play other apps the receiver will only let me skip to the next song. No other functions work. I cannot access my library or other stuff. I have used soundcloud, and my cell phone music player. When i plug in my mp3 player then i have access to files or the library. The only issue i have ran into with the receiver is that when pandora is not connecting (which happens 50% of the time)the receiver will REBOOT or shut off. When i turn it back on all my radio stations, clock, audio settings, bluetooth recognized devices, annoying demo mode is reset... If you plan on using the receiver for pandora i highly do not recommend it. I normally plug in my device with the usb or auxiliary. The receiver did improve sound from my speakers though.[ ISMAEL Nov 09, 2014 ]
I have an iphone 5 that works fine. As long as the 6 has bluetooth there shouldnt be an issue[ GRAHAM Oct 24, 2014 ]

I don't know about that, but, if it has the same blutooth as the i5 it should I have the i5 and it works flawless, Im very satisfied with it.[ Angel Oct 20, 2014 ]
Can you define what you mean by "compatible?" I use it with an IPhone 6 via Bluetooth, and it works fine. Generally though, if two devices both support Bluetooth, they will work together. If you're talking about a different feature, then please specify.[ matthew Oct 20, 2014 ]
Front face measures 7 1/4 x 2 without plastic pocket. With Pocket it measures 7 1/4 x 3 3/4 at face opening.6" deep on unit but 8" with amp jacks.I was unable to fully recess the unit into sleeve until it clicks and the Installer at Best Buy could not either. He said "This is a common problem with my model Lincoln Town Car" and forcing it to click into place has damaged other peoples wiring on rear of unit. No[ Ron Aug 01, 2014 ]
I use the Alpine UTE-52BT in my Jeep Wrangler. It works well in that environment, is not susceptible to dust, etc., since there's no disc drive, but according to the manual the unit is not waterproof and is not made for an outdoor/marine environment. I would not want to expose the unit to heavy rain in my Jeep with the top off.[ JOHN Jul 31, 2014 ]
It is a great stereo for inside my Ford F250, but I would look for a marine radio for your bike. I doubt this would hold up to adverse weather.[ ROBERT Jul 31, 2014 ]
I put it in my Mirage Boat but so far not very happy keeps skipping on bt when listening to music and then shuts down when I hit waves thinking of returning it.[ MIKE Jul 31, 2014 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I do recommend re-wiring with the new harness that comes with the UTE52BT. My phone will pick up automatically, while I am playing Pandora from the phone, But they are the same device.
