Stream music, talk hands-free

The CDE-W235BT lets you keep your hands on the wheel when a call comes in, and ensures you and your caller make a clear connection. Once you mount the included microphone in a good spot, you can adjust the mic's gain to best match your speaking voice. You can also tweak the phone output and ring volume ahead of time, so you won't go diving for the volume knob every time someone calls.

When a call comes in, you'll see your caller's name and phone number on the two-line display. You can answer the call by tapping the phone button on the front panel, or set up the receiver to answer all calls automatically. You can see some useful phone info on the screen, too, like a signal strength indicator and even an alert when a text message comes in.

Don't forget your iPhone

Your iPhone is the key to a seemingly never-ending supply of music. First, you can dive into all the tunes in your iTunes® library using the CDE-W235BT's controls. You can also play the audio from several popular Internet radio apps, meaning you'll never run out of music, no matter how long your journey may be.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Great, especially for the price paid

Bear from Trinidad and Tobago on 8/11/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed two double din decks for my siblings' cars. I wanted Alpine, so it was between this and the 265. After comparing the two right here on Crutchfield, I decided for their needs, the difference in the features didn't warrant the extra money (x2). Twas my first time ordering from crutchfield.com, and with me being an international customer, I had some interaction with their customer service. They were very courteous. The decks were easy to install in the Nissan and Toyota/, and the difference in sound quality could immediately be heard, even with the stock speakers. I was worried about how this radio requires a software Bluetooth update via a windows 7 laptop, which I don't have. But the Bluetooth seems to work fine, even with my sister's 6s. It is a bit of a hassle to connect to the Bluetooth, though. No regrets for a basic double din, this to me, packs a punch, especially for the price I paid.

Pros: Price Alpine Sound quality Easy installation

Cons: Bluetooth connection a hassle Can require a software update which needs a windows 7 laptop (not sure if windows 10 would work)

Great Sound, Crutchfield recommends the Adaptor Parts

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Stereo and recommended installation kit arrived in one box. This is the first time I installed a car stereo. I read all the instructions, called the Crutchfield Help Line a couple times, and installed the stereo by myself. You must hook the speaker wires from the Alpine wiring harness into the Scosche box to get the full sound from the speakers. I put the mic on the sun visor and it picks up my voice clearly.

Pros: The Online Manual is a PDF file on a CD included in the box. It's easy to load on my PC and read. The wiring schematic for the wiring harness explains clearly how to connect the stereo wires to the adaptor that fits into the Nissan harness.

Cons: I agree with another reviewer who said that fitting the Scosche box and adaptor wiring harness in the small space provided in the Nissan 350z is tough. I trimmed the wires on the plug that fit into the back of the stereo to make less clutter.

This system is lacking only one thing - broadcast data. I would like to have that included but I can live without it. Everything else about the system is excellent. The Bluetooth and external mic provides exceptional sound quality for hands-free cell phone use. The installation directions for my Chevy truck were great and the wiring harness made the connection easy.

Pros: Simple to use Great quality sound for music and phone calls

    Cons: No broadcast data

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It wasn't really easy for installing for a person like me doing this kind of installation for the first time. Opening existing covers and taking the old stereo was OK but wiring and the putting the new item into the bracket wasn't easy. The screws were a bit short, so I had to really push hard to put them into the holes. After 3-hour long installation, I finally could enjoy the great look of new stereo and nice sound.

Pros: (1) Good looking especially in the dark (2) Sounds much better than the 10-year old stock stereo (3) Great price for the value

Cons: (1) The instruction wasn't detailed enough for beginners. (2) The screws for the bracket were not long enough. (3) When the music is played with bluetooth from my Samsung phone, the title or any information about the song does not display but I can't complain because of the price. :)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased based on the Alpine name and the price. Terrible mistake. This unit replaced the stock unit in my SX4. I use the phone a lot and need hands free calling. Install was easy. Setup was not hard at all. Sounds better than the stock system. This is where the good parts end....... Radio reception is just plain bad. Tuning in to local stations produces static and garbled noise. Distant stations that used to work fine are nowhere to be found. Stock system worked fine so it's not the antenna. In all fairness, I don't really listen to the radio so this was not a big deal as much as an observation. Bluetooth - HORRIBLE. Some days it won't even connect at all when I get in the car in the morning. For reasons unknown, it will often disconnect at random while driving and will not reconnect until the ignition is switched off first. The power button is completely useless as it does not power the unit down, it just seems to blank the display. This purchase has been a tremendous disappointment. If you are looking for a solid unit with Bluetooth, look elsewhere because this isn't it.

    Pros: Sounds Good

Cons: Bluetooth is total garbage. Radio reception is almost non-existent.

unit was very easy to install and is a great upgrade to the factory unit. the sound quality is excellent except for the bluetooth phone. people i speak with say that when i am not talking there is complete silence...good right? but when i start to talk there is alot of road/background noise. i realize this is a truck and will have some noise, should have opted for noise cancelling option.

    2007 Nissan Altima
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Decided on a double din unit mostly for aesthetic reasons in my Altima. Was edging towards a Kenwood, but many reviews said the readability in sunlight was nill, so that tilted me towards this unit. First Alpine. Everything works and is very quick to parse directories on USB sticks and whatnot. The main thing I use it for it streaming youtube and audiobooks from my phone (newish Sony Experia3+), of which Ive had zero issues at all with a prior Pioneer that was in a truck I just sold. Receiver shipped with a 1.14 firmware, so I looked for an update and there was one...that is 1.27 and released in january 2013 (!?). Never had such a hassle to update it on a unit ever. Even the giant retail store specials from years ago have had the ability to update via usb stick. Bluetooth syncing is still iffy, and you can hear a quiet staticky noise when theres a stream. You can hear it go away after 3 seconds from pausing the source audio. More often than not, I must hit play, wait a couple seconds, then pause, then play for the audio to be played by system (audio plays on the source, but is 'muted' and not picked up by the receiver). Sometimes I must do it 3/4/5 times. This same phone worked flawlessly with a pioneer and a JVC unit in the same way. It was much worse with the 1.14 firmware, and the 1.27 makes it less noisy and little quicker sync. If I had to do over again, I would certainly go with a diff unit. Weren't too many options in this price range of double din receivers.

Pros: USB stick cataloguing speeds (for hundreds/thousands of songs/audio), decent occasional FM/AM player. No frills unit, no annoying multi-color bright displays like many aftermarket units tend to have. (which is a pro for me, con for others, i know)

Cons: Bluetooth is still sub-par. I use it for daily 2-3 hour drives for work. Receiver could desperately use a firmware update. If the bluetooth was fixed properly, it'd be a nice budget receiver.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far I've been very impressed with the Unit itself, sound quality is good, installation was pretty straight forward, and I enjoy the simplicity of the unit.

Pros: Simplicity, Ease of install, not flashy but looks good, gives a nice finished look, Bluetooth connectivity is so much easier than other units I've used, sound quality of conversations via Bluetooth is very good (careful microphone placement helps).

Cons: Only thing I can think of right now is that the stereo can't control items through the BT, you still have to manually change songs and such via whatever you have connected.

Great unit, sounds wonderful, clear and crisp. Updates the dash without looking out of place. Classy.

Pros: Love the BT, and the hands free phone option. The staff at Crutchfield were SO helpful as I am a grandma and this was my first attempt at any car audio upgrades. Hey, if I can do this, anyone can!

Cons: As others have said, needed longer screws for the dash kit, so plan a trip to the Home Depot. My previous unit had the antenna cable input on the opposite side and I needed to find and purchase an extender for the cable to reach the other side. But all in all, install was easy. Just took a bit longer than I had planned.

    2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great unit. I knew that it required a modified fit. I ended up having to cut away 1/2 to 3/4 inches of dash and modify the sub-dash in order to get it to accommodate this head unit. The supplied dash adapter receded the unit about 2/3 - 3/4 in. into dash. I wanted the unit to be flush with the dash like the stock unit, so I ended up not using the kit and fabricating my own securing mechanism. You must have a Dremel or some such tool to make this easy; otherwise the cutting will take forever. The wiring kit requires that you splice the Alpine Loom with adapter. Not a big deal -just 1/2 hour of soldering and heat shrinking to do it right. I am fairly adept mechanically and have the right tools. With this mods, it took 3 hours to complete the install. Fun evening project.

Pros: Big dials and easy to use

Pros: The clock stays on is a big thing. The reception as well as the sound is great. It even looks good in the car with the adapter kit. Made my wife happy so makes my life easier. Great product in my opinion.

We mounted the microphone on the overhead console pointed at the driver, and have had excellent calls with it.

Pros: Easily installed and works as advertised. DX & local search makes it easily adaptable to city/country programming

Cons: Doesn't always reconnect to BT iphone without actually selecting it on the phone. There is a pattern that does work but I haven't resolved it yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I give this a 2 star instead of a 1 star simply because the USB iPod connection works... I have owned Alpine units and only alpine units since the early 1990s. Heck, I even have an old Alpine home audio cassette deck. I was excited to get this into my truck but to my disappointment, the bluetooth is very flakey. The streaming cuts in and out every 20 or so seconds. I did find an update that is supposed to fix a lot of these issues. Unfortunately the update is done over bluetooth file transfer. There is a USB port on the device as well as a CD and they chose to update firmware with bluetooth? Very odd. I have spent about 4 hours trying to get the firmware updates. I have tried my Mac, a windows machine as well as my old Android phone with bluetooth file transfer. The unit just gets stuck saying - firmware update don't touch any buttons. That's it. I called Alpine and all he could tell me is that my drivers were probably out of date. Great. Thanks. All of my drivers on all 3 devices (one a Mac) are out of date. Most likely not.

    Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Just plain doesn't work like its supposed to.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We purchased this for a 94 Mitsubishi 3000GT. It showed on the application that it would not fit but we measured and compared with the specs and my husband thought he could make it work. With slight modification to the factory bezel it fit and looks great. We have purchased Alpine for years and it sounds great as always!

Pros: Looks nice and has great sound quality.

Cons: My son has an Alpine CD player with Bluetooth also. When you connect with his the display shows the song, artist, ect and you can use the arrow buttons on the unit to move to the next song. With this unit it does not do that when connected via Bluetooth. It doesn't display any info from our phones and you can't use the unit to move to the next song you have to do it through the phone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a difference in sound quality a head unit can make! Once this Alpine head unit was installed, I spent a few minutes of adjusting the EQ and I am very pleased with the sound quality. I have Infinity Reference 6x9's in my doors and Infinity Reference [offsiteUrl]" dash speakers and this Alpine makes them sing. The clarity and detail I hear with this head unit makes my commute to work a pleasure. The look of it is very clean and simple. Not flashy at all and looks almost like OEM in a Toyota FJ Cruiser. I've called several people on the bluetooth function and the person on the other end could not tell that I was talking hands free! I am super happy with this purchase and to make things better I plan on purchasing the Alpine power pack soon for more power!

    Good sound, just okay functionality

    BensPapa from Oregon on 1/6/2015

    2010 Subaru Forester
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very clean look. It fits the color and styling of my 2010 Forester interior (simple white text display, blue back light). It actually sounds very good with stock speakers and was a noticeable upgrade from the stock deck. Bluetooth works fine, but I wish it had more functionality. There is no control, no even auto-play or pause. You still will need to handle your phone for changing tracks and re-starting music or podcasts. Kinda annoying, but I bought this unit to avoid a cell-phone usage ticket and it does that perfectly.

Pros: Clean style, good sound, easy installation.

Cons: No smart phone controls, still have to handle phone while driving.

Perfect Fit for a 2003 Miata

NickTrag from America's Hat, a.k.a. Canada on 1/4/2015

I had this head unit installed in a 2003 Miata with the factory Bose sound system. If you've researched this particular project, you probably know by now this installation is more difficult than calculus (I never was a math person myself, to be honest) due to the factory Bose system's speakers and amp. There are more than a few ways to make it work, but I opted for the simplest solution -- retain the factory speakers and amp, and install an output converter. Kudos to Crutchfield for making it easy by providing everything I needed for the installation free of charge, except for the necessary output converter. Thankfully, that was discounted. I opted for the Alpine CDE-W235BT for a couple of reasons. I didn't like the idea of having an empty hole in my dashboard, so another double-din unit was a must. It's far from flashy, but I'm not a fan of flashy head units to begin with. I prefer the so-called OEM+ look, and the CDE-W235BT strikes a balance between clean looks and excellent functionality. My only gripe with the CDE-W235BT is the dial illumination. My car's dial illumination is a cross between amber and red. The buttons on the CDE-W235BT light up blue, and only blue, on North American versions. But elsewhere -- European versions, for example -- you can choose between blue, red, green and orange illumination. Alpine leaving out this feature from the North American version of the W235BT, but as the cliched saying goes, you can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Pros: Crutchfield. Excellent product knowledge, packaging and shipping. Everything I needed was provided in the box. Functionality. Short of double-din touchscreen units, this has everything -- Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity, and of course, a tuner. Looks. If you like the OEM+ look, this is a solid choice.

Cons: Dial illumination. We're stuck with blue, but versions of the CDE-W235BT outside North America have the option of choosing between blue, red, orange and green for illumination colours. That said, unless you're picky about matching the rest of your interior, this isn't much of a big deal.

Best head unit in it's class!

    leb4pres from Louisiana on 12/3/2014

This radio is very solid, Alpine knows how to make products that work very well. I have mine installed in an 09 Scion TC. With this head unit I can see it clearly during the day and night. Very nice looking even though it cannot change colors. I'm not sure why the site says It doesn't have sub RCA output. I have this matches with the M500 amp and type S 12.. and it sounds fantastic. bluetooth is very clear on audio and phone calls. What I love the most is it's simple to operate and looks awesome. If you're looking at similar double din kenwood and pioneer models I would go with the W235 all the way, it's the best sounding unit in my opinion.

Pros: Sound Quality Simple To Use Buttons Looks Performance Lighting

Cons: It's not exactly cheap, but worth it.

This I think it's a great unit for the price, sound quality is great, installation was very easy and it looks great on my dash, the new features added to this type of units nowadays is great, bluetooh and the USB port for a flash drive to play music w/o having to have an iPod is good. Although there was one feature I didn't see but this was an easy fix, by buying an Alpine wireless remote control. Audio set up, with 3 bands is a new thing which I like but seriously, that 2nd setting is pretty much pointless, Bass and Treble was just fine.

    Pros: See above.

Cons: The only con this unit has it that it does not come with a "mute" button, like my previous Alpine unit. But as I said, this was an easy fix, I had an Alpine RUE-4202 wireless remote control and it work great with this new unit, so now I can control the basic features from this remote control. Wanna buy that remote control? Here: Alpine RUE-4202 Wireless remote control Item #: 500RUE4202, not bad for $20.

The Alpine double din was purchased to replace the factory Shaker 500 head unit in our 2005 Mustang. I liked the double because it looked more "stock" than a single din aftermarket look. The installation was pretty straight forward and everything worked perfectly. The unit matches the interior very well and it is not overly flashy like many of the other units. The sound quality and bass is much better than the factory unit. The wife is very happy with it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit in large part because I needed a double din sized unit. At the same time I didn't desire to have or to pay for nicer units that came with big touch screens. Additionally I wanted something that looked classic. So many of the other stereos I considered were so flashy they just looked silly. I couldn't be more happy with the purchase. The sound quality has been a real improvement over the last stereo I had in the car and the blue tooth connectivity has transformed the way I enjoy music in the car. The only drawback is that I've had a hard time getting a second device to connect via bluetooth. I may be doing something wrong, but regardless it hasn't been obvious why the second device isn't connecting. Seems like it should be.

Pros: Great, appearance and sound with all the right features.

This was a replacement form my stock 2002 protégé stereo. I was concerned going in because most of the units out there seem to have a very after market look to them and do not fit the interior design. In my opinion this unit is simple and looks great. The biggest up side to this was that the ability to hook up my phone and control it from the receiver (typically I have a premade playlist and I set it to shuffle and want the ability to skip a song using the receiver if I want). The display is spot on, not too much movement, and able to see during the day time.

Pros: iPhone connectivity is simple. Controls seem to be in the right place and the buttons just the right size. Design does not scream aftermarket yet looks really good.

Cons: The display color is only in blue and is not adjustable (currently my car display is green and goes fairly well with the blue in this unit, with they would match though).

This is my third attempt for the perfect head-unit for my 2004 Honda Pilot. BINGO! Perfect! The display is just right. The controls are just where they need to be. Sound quality is great. The previous Kenwood unit sounded fine but I couldn't read the display in the daylight. The JVC was too bright at night. The Alpine unit hit the sweet-spot on the display illumination - and more. The controls for bass/mid/treble are easy to use while driving - another big plus since I can adjust subwoofer levels without even looking. The search function is also easy to use while driving (the other units you had to navigate a maze of functions to do whatever you wanted to do. I found what I was looking for!!

Cons: No RC outputs for an external amp! What's that about? Had to work around this problem - be aware that this may be a problem for you folks who using or plan to use an external power amp. Minor gripe - The unit does not display song titles - artist/band only. Also, the first display is the number from the iPod and then the artist. I spent a lot of time researching a replacement for the factory radio in my Honda Van. The main reason for replacing the stereo was to get Blue Tooth capability. I have had hands free calling with two previous vehicles and really love it. The Alpine BT works flawlessly! I have had zero problems with making calls or listening to music over the BT. The sound quality is also much improved over the factory unit. I especially like how easy this unit was to set up and use. Large buttons and easy to read display in any light conditions. I did not want multiple bright flashing colors on the display. I can operate this without distraction while I drive, that's how it should be.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My opinion of the product is very good....relatively simple operation, with a quick intuitive setup. It paired immediately with my iPhone 5s. Hands free audio quality is very good. Customizing individual sound levels for each input is a big plus. Now to the Crutchfield issue --- this did NOT install easily in my 2013 Honda Fit. The kit that came with it indicated you should use the machine screws that came with the head unit to attach the unit to the plastic brackets from the kit. The screws were NOT long enough. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with a Crutchfield agent who was of no help and even provided me with wrong information on the size of the machine screws. His only answer was "I guess they must have changed the kit". Not good enough! With the width of the plastic bracket and the inset of the screw holes on the head unit, those machine screws did not work. I had to stop at four different hardware stores to find the right size machine screw (5X10 mm) to finish the installation. Once I obtained the correct machine screws, it installed quickly. Overall, I was VERY disappointed in the Crutchfield "help" with this issue.

Pros: Simplicity of operation, sound quality, customization, hands-free operation

Cons: None for the unit....BIG con on the Crutchfield lack of help on the accompanying installation kit which was inadequate.

Crutchfield response on 7/22/2014 At Crutchfield, our goal is make sure our customers get everything they need to install their new gear. Unfortunately, that didn't happen this time. For most other brands of stereo, the screws included with either the installation kit or the stereo would do the job. But this Alpine stereo has inset screw holes, so it needs longer screws. When this is the case, we normally include a separate package of longer screws, free of charge. Unfortunately, this is the first time we heard about this particular combination needing those extra screws. We're adjusting our database so that future orders will receive that extra hardware.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This head units is pretty good. High marks for the hands free phone--good sound quality and noise cancelling. Only complaint is that the menu interface is not great. In particular, the navigation of folders on the USB drive is bad. When you scroll through the folder list, it goes from one folder to the next ***in the order that the folders were copied onto the USB drive**. Really? The first album I put on there is the first one that I scroll to? That doesn't make sense, and the manual pretty much admits it. Here's what the manual says: "files are played back in the order that the writing software writes them...Therefore the playback order may not be what is expected." How about a more typical convention for playback order...like alphabetical, maybe? I am comparing this to the Sync system in my wife's Ford Flex, so maybe I am setting the bar pretty high. Luckily I have a workaround, I just need to copy the folders onto the USB drive in alphabetical order and then I can scroll through them in a logical way. I am worried that when I try to add "Abbey Road" onto my USB that I'll have a lot of re-copying to do....

Pros: Good noise cancelling during phone calls. Good interface for answering phone calls. Good sound during FM and USB playback.

Cons: Poor menu navigation during USB playback.

The unit was quick to install and required no modification to my vehicle. Compared to my previous aftermarket unit, this one powers on much quicker, feels more premium, is very responsive to key presses, integrates well with external amps, and provides lots of settings to fine-tune your listening experience. To all Android/other mobile OS users curious about the 1.27.00 firmware update, an Alpine rep informed me the update is for iOS only, so don't bother with it.

Pros: -Has a clock!!! -Bluetooth quality is good and takes only seconds to connect (contrary to other reviews that said it was slow) -Accessory mic is very good and easy to install (I clipped it on my a-pillar) -Display dims at night -Simple interface, enough buttons, easy to operate without taking your eyes off the road -Power-up is quick -Separate subwoofer and bass control -Radio reception is good -High pass and sub low pass filters

Cons: -The trim kit was a very tight fit (tighter than my previous aftermarket double-din unit) -Bluetooth occasionally will stutter if switching tracks quickly If I had to nitpick: -Volume increments are too big (10 is quiet, 20 is loud) I would prefer the adjustment to be finer, my previous unit was quiet at 8 and loud at 40.

This is a good system, especially for those looking for a system that doesn't look like a disco-tech! (Shows you my generation! LOL) There are some short-falls I like to tell you about. First, despite what the review video says about this radio, the blue light color cannot be changed. Called Alpine and they informed only European models the user can change the color. USA models stay blue. Also, the radio does not display title and/or artist info no matter what audio source you are listening too. One more thing, the system does not alert you to in-coming text messages despite the features saying it does so. I think these are issues a top of the line company like Alpine shouldn't have penny-pinched and left out. But it is a clean looking, great sounding system, and the Bluetooth works great. For the money it's a very nice system, but would look at other systems for around the same price or less that do the features I stated Alpine left out. Oh, and if you want a remote control, forget about a radio App that can help you control the system with your phone. If you want one, it doesn't come with the system. You have to buy one separately.

    Pros: Look at my review.

    Cons: Look at my review.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

INSTALLATION: The Alpine radio was installed into a 2010 Toyota Camry XLE with JBL audio system. I used the AXXESS AX-ADBOX1 with the matching AXXESS AX-ADTY01 Toyota Wiring harness and the AXXESS ASWC-1 steering wheel control. The Alpine radio lacks pre-amp outputs so I used the speaker outputs from the radio. The AXXESS wiring harness did not include an illumination wire so I contacted Crutchfield Tech Support. They quickly identified which Camry wire I needed to tap into to obtain radio illumination. Crutchfield Tech Support even sent an email with a graphic depicting the wire. This installation keeps the factory JBL amplifier and JBL speakers. PERFORMANCE: Quite an upgrade over the factory Fujitsu system. I no longer have XM radio, but I wasn't using it anyway. The sound is typical Alpine high quality and the JBL speakers now sound alive rather than muffled. The Alpine deck integrates nicely into the dash and I prefer knobs and buttons over touch screens. The Alpine Bluetooth is another great improvement over the factory Bluetooth. The Bluetooth system connects and disconnects quickly with my Android cell phone.

Pros: Greatly improved sound quality. Greatly improved Bluetooth Excellent FM reception. Parametric EQ

Cons: The biggest negative is the system does not illuminate unless it is turned on. If the system is off, the illumination is completely off. The illumination should come on when the car illumination comes on. This is a shortcoming from Alpine.

I am a big Alpine supporter and once again Alpine came through for me. If you are looking for a head unit that's simple and don't want to pay for the unnecessary bells and whistles then this one is the right choice. Thanks again Alpine! Loyal customer 4 Life!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Alpine CDE-W235BT was recommended by my Crutchfield advisor as the best choice for my needs which I described to him and my vehicle, a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDi. I had the unit professionally installed...in this case a bargain of only $55 per hour and the installation took less than an hour. Total bill for installing the Alpine, steering wheel controls, antenna adapter, blue tooth and microphone...the whole works: $55. You probably wont be this fortunate...Total bill: $55! The unit has that European look of simplicity which enhances the VW center stack and resembles the piece of junk 6-disk CD, Sirius satellite, bluetooth Volkswagen sound system VW comissions Delphi to manufacture for them and installs in many different VW models. VW build a fun- to-drive, economical vehicle in this diesel wagon... why can't they get the electrics and electronics right? Thanks to Crutchfield, I did not have to spend a $$$Grand$$$ or more to replace this fried radio with a rebuilt factory radio identical to what I had.

Pros: Good looking, affordable replacement for the VW original. Sounds better and picks up stations and holds them better than the original;.

Cons: Haven't found any yet. I'll let you know if I do.

This deck absolutely exceeded all my expectations! I replaced a factory deck on a 2007 Nissan Versa and I instantly went from not being able to play my music via my I-phone to having multiple choices on playback. My preference is taking advantage of the Bluetooth with also being able to answer/make calls hands free. I thought the external mic would be a con but I was able to conceal it above my rear view mirror. And btw, don't replace your factory speakers yet until this deck is powered on...wow what a difference!! A bit of advice...watch as many you-tube videos as possible regarding install and deck functions cause the factory instructions are somewhat vague.

Pros: Easy install Sounds great Blue tooth function

    Cons: Vague factory instructions

Great Unit for teh Price, bought it to replace a JVC head unit that literally died after 12 monts. Should've bought the Alpine in the first place. Blue Tooth works great and excellent sound. As I was replacing an after market system, the install took all of 15 minutes and 5 minutes of that was recalibrating the steering wheel control adapter for the new head unit. You won't be disappointed with this unit.

Pros: Great sound - easy install with the Crutchfield adapters

Cons: Dimmer didn't work, but then it didn't work in the last radio either - must be me.

I have only had this unit installed for a few days but I am very happy so far with it. The install instructions were spot on for installing in my 2002 Toyota Tacoma. I soldered the supplied wire harness and everything went together easily. I had to print out some of the instructions from the supplied CD to help set up the unit as the written ones in the box were not detailed enough. The CD instructions were easy to follow. After soldering the harness it took less than an hour to install the radio. The blue tooth is working well. I also have a satellite radio that I hooked up to this unit and it all works great. It did take me a while to figure out how to install and where to put the external phone microphone. There was not much information on that part of the install. I ended up removing the window pillar plastic and running the wires behind it and through the dash. I don't know about the long haul but so far I am very pleased with this unit. The unit was suggested to me by an advisor at Crutchfield and I am happy with his suggestion.

Pros: Was easy to wire and install the radio minus microphone placement

Cons: Took a while a figure out how and where to install the microphone

This unit does Alpine proud. It was easy to install and I love the new features the original radio didn't have like the cell phone Bluetooth function. Nice upgrade for a 10 year old car.

Pros: Great sound, good looks, and easy operation.

Cons: FM reception not as good as the original unit. The car has the FM antenna in the rear side window and living in the SF Bay Area is a challenge with long distances at times, mountains and heavy fog at times. However, the original Subaru radio was better suited for FM reception. I'm going to try to install an external antenna.,

I bought this Alpine to upgrade the stock 6 disc unit in my 2004 F150, as I wanted a way to connect my iPhone 4S for my music, love the sound, easy to use , Bluetooth works great, except you will have to upgrade the firmware to display the song, artist, or album, only when wireless, if you connect a USB, it does all of that without upgrading. The Bluetooth sounds crystal clear, and with the wire harness and mounting kit, install was a breeze, the only disappointment was that the led display doesn't change colors, only the European model does, I still think it's great, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade the factory radio

Pros: Sound quality, Bluetooth , ease of install

Excellent head unit. I got this for my wife mainly so she could play audio via Bluetooth from her phone. I knew alpine made a quality product, but I didn't realize what a difference in sound quality there would be. I put it in a 2009 Lancer. The fit was great and the install was straight forward. Time consuming, but easy. The Bluetooth setup is incredibly easy. I've had a few cars with Bluetooth, but none come even close to how easy this one is to setup. Had music streaming from Pandora in literally under a minute. And the sound quality. A very noticeable increase in quality as well as a considerable bump in power. I fear the stock speakers could easily be pushed well passed their limit with this unit. And it also looks very nice. Something you can't really capture in a picture. But when I finally got it in the car, it has a very clean look. Compared to some of the other units I've seen that try to be flashy, this one has a simple, clean, quality look to it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a double din head unit. Also, I'm not sure if there was a problem with the stock unit, but the radio reception is significantly better as well. Stations that were fuzzy before came in loud and clear. Excellent unit over all.

Pros: Sound quality, clean polished look, excellent Bluetooth.

    Cons: None yet.

First off let me say that this Radio has two HUGE Pros going for it. First, the sound quality on this is awesome! The level of detail from high's, and mid's is incredible. Secondly, its super easy to to connect to BlueTooth. Connection was simple, and easier then anything out there. I have this in a 2002 Toyota Sequoia SR5 with MTX 6.5" inch door speakers and it sounds wonderful with the Alpine 45x4 inline amplifier. Adding an MTX subwoofer next!

Pros: Sound Quality is top notch! Super Easy BlueTooth setup.

Cons: Display is boring and very plain looking, almost like a factory radio. Also there is no HD Radio support. HD Radio should be standard in all car radios as of now. Alpine is known for sound quality over there years but this thing only has a 3 band equalizer, come on man! Even the cheaper Pioneer radios (Price wise) have 8 band equalizers standard.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I puchased this Alpine Double-din CD receiver to replace the factory Monsoon stereo with CD changer in my 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe because the Monsoon CD player stopped working. My new Alpine unit works well at playing CDs and also my home burned CD-Rs. I like the simple and logical buttons. I wish it had a dedicated Power (On/Off) button, but I have to push the Source button to turn it on. I have to push and hold the Source button for 3 seconds to turn it off. It is easy to change the display readout which has the option of showing Track number and elapsed playing time on each track, OR it can show CD text information on CDs which contain it. One complaint I have is that at night, the words and markings on the lighted buttons are very difficult to read. The printing (marking) is too small and appears blurry when lit up with the blue light at night. They are a little easier to read during the daytime. On the other hand, the display is easier to read (day and night), except when the sun is shinning directly on it. The sound quality of CDs is the same as it was on my old factory Monsoon car stereo (very good but not excellent). The bass is not very strong, but I don't like a lot of bass anyway. The sound quality on FM radio is fairly good, but not very clean or crisp. AM radio sounds poorly with background humm. It has marginal reception and sound quality. I have not used the Bluetooth functions yet, so I am not able to rate them. I enjoy the convenience of USB port

Pros: Simple and logical controls and menus. I like having buttons to push and not a touchscreen. Attractive appearance in my vehicle's dash. The sound quality of CDs is very good and the 3-band graphic equalizer works well. The USB port is convenient to play music files on a thumb drive (USB storage device). Now I can listen to all my MP3 songs that I have purchased from the internet (stored on a thumb drive), in addition to regular CDs and CD-Rs.

Cons: Poor AM radio reception and sound quality. Slight background humm when listening to radio (worse on AM). Buttons are difficult to read at night. No dedicated power button.

Wanted to add Bluetooth and USB to my '06 F-150 and considered a Parrot add-on but for $30 more decided to replace the HU with this Alpine. Glad I did, the sound quality is outstanding. I replaced the factory speakers last year with Polk Audio so the new Alpine isn't limited by speakers. This Alpine matches the dash of my truck very well and the large controls are easy to use at a glance..I did not want a "thief magnet" touch screen that would be harder to see and use in bright sunlight. Some have complained about the look of this unit's display but look at the pictures before you order and decide then not later. Crutchfield is excellent as usual.

Great little stereo receiver. Music from my iPod sounds a lot better then the cassette adapter I was using on my factory stereo in my 2006 Hyundai Tucson. Very easy to install with the wire harness provided by Crutchfield. The only issue I have is not being able to update the firmware for the Bluetooth module. Apparently my bluetooth connection from my PC does not allow for FTP transfer. The only other way to get the firmware updated is to send the stereo into Alpine. Not going to remove stereo after spending the time to install it. However, I read that the iPod sounds better with the USB connector, so I do not really have a need to update the Bluetooth firmware. It just would be nice to connect my iPod wirelessly and have one less cable in the car. The Bluetooth does work great with my Windows phone.

Pros: Sounds better than factory stereo. Easy to use.

Cons: Cannot update Bluetooth firmware easily, but not really necessary.

This is my 2nd Alpine head unit, and while the generall functions of the radio are all excellent, I am EXTREMLY dissapointed in the structure of the display backlighting. The major issue is that you can't read the dispaly during daylight hours. The backlight for the display is always "on" and the strength of the digit and letter display is not much brighter than the backlight. So no matter how good or "bling" the radio is what good is it if you can't read the display ? Tried fiddling with the setup but there's nothing you can alter with respect to the display lighting.

I have a background in commercial sound systems and have owned Alpine products in the past. But I still considered other brands and did quite a lot of research before deciding on this unit. The Crutchfield team's advice was very helpful in making my decision. I rated it at five stars not because there are not better head units out there but the price point makes it a very good value. I selected it primarily for the Bluetooth ability and Alpine's solid reputation. It did not disappoint. The installation was easy and the vehicle spec sheet was a big help. It paired quickly with my Galaxy S3 and the call settings and options were impressive and worked well. Some reviewers experienced pairing and other issues. My answer to that is to download and print out the manual, take the time to read it and refer to it during initial setup. Car radios are not as simple as they once were, so I would urge those who purchase this unit or some other to spend a little time with the book. The CDE-W235BT performs well and is easy to use while driving and looks good in the dash of my 2008 F-150.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, keep in mind the price of this head unit. That's amazingly cheap for a double-din radio, regardless of brand and features. But this Alpine really gives you a lot for the money. It was a dead simple install in the dash of my 2005 Ford F150 -- everything fit as advertised and it looks better than the stock head unit. The bluetooth connectivity works perfectly with my iPhone 5. I do have a mount that puts the phone right next to the head unit which may help. The USB port is handy, too, as is the front mounted aux input. The radio reception, which I use during my daily commute, works better than my stock radio. I don't use the CD player much so there's not much I can say about it. It works, but frankly, they could just get rid of that nowadays and save a few bucks. The display and old-school blue Alpine-style button illumination is simple but it gets the job done. The price, remember? It was obvious from the product description that this was a limitation, but frankly I don't mind it in the least. Not a big deal. Sound quality is great with my stock speakers. Again, much better than stock. I'll be adding an external amp and speakers soon, but I'm very happy as it is.

Pros: Great value, great sound, easy operation and installation. Looks like a factory installation in my F150.

    Cons: None.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This double DIN receiver looks and sounds great -- at least in my 2005 Hyundai Tucson -- and the install using the supplied harness was very easy. Once I finally removed the dash cover and disconnected the multiple plugs, and tons of screws, etc., (needed to be a contortionist to get to some of the plugs disconnected), the installation took 5 minutes -- took about an hour to get the old stereo out. Once connected, the "old school" display (scrolling dots), and the difficulty going through the menus for a connected IPOD, takes some patience. Good stereo for the price but found myself wishing I had something with a more versatile display.

Pros: Price of the unit, ease of installation for my Tucson, Bluetooth works great with my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone.

Cons: Old school display, inability to change display colors, difficulty scrolling through the IPOD menus.

2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab - 6 speaker - No Onstar - No Steering Controls - No Bose - The product produces a very good sound at a decent price point. I wish I could change the display color. but I knew when buying this one that I couldn't. The dimmer also could stand to dim a bit more but really isn't too big of an issue. So far I have had no problems connecting to my phone (Motorola Atrix HD - Android 4.1.1) with bluetooth although I don't use it much. I use the iPod over USB to connect to my old 30g iPod video for all of my music and it works great although navigating the menus does take a little bit of practice. Installation - The mounting kit Crutchfield sent along with the unit has horrid instructions that are absolutely useless. For this truck you need to remove the Alpine sleeve and faceplate (they are one piece) from the radio then you can put the mounting kit on the unit and figure out which tabs to break off by comparing against the stock radio. Had to call Crutchfield Tech support for help with that part, but the CSR knew exactly what he was talking about and the rest of the install was easy. Even though it says modified fit, it went in my truck perfectly without removing the support bar and even left room to ziptie mount the warning chime module to the support bar. It fits in my dash very nicely and looks better than the stock radio did.

Pros: Price - Sound Quality - Input Options - Did not need to remove the support bar in my '04 Silverado

Cons: Crappy instructions with the mounting kit - Skipping ipod tracks takes longer than skipping cd tracks on the stock radio. I can't be on track one and skip to track 3 by pressing the next button 2 times fast. It must register as starting 2 before the next skip can be used. This isn't a big issue though

After speaking with a Crutchfield adviser, I purchased the Alpine CDE-W235BT. I've also got 4 Infinity Kappa 682.9cf hooked up with this unit. I was very specific about what I was looking for in sound quality. I made it clear that I play my Classic Rock at a high level and wanted crisp, clear sound. Unfortunately, this Alpine does not deliver that. Don't get me wrong, this unit played at around mid level, sounds pretty good. But crank it up, and there's plenty of distortion. Not the sharp quality I'm looking for. Also, once I get it sounding pretty good at mid level, when I turn down the volume I lose the bass and have to crank the bass level up. Then when raising the volume, I have to turn the bass down or I get distortion. This unit sounds much better than the stock unit in my 2006 F-150 but, my girlfriends' stock unit in her Dodge Charger sounds just as good if not better than my Alpine. I'm definitely NOT satisfied with this purchase.

Pros: Looks good and fits well in the dash. But, that's not why I buy a quality stereo. I don't care if it's hidden out of view, it just has to sound good.

    Cons: Distortion

Connecting my Nokia 920 Windows phone everything works good so far except I cannot change songs on the radio thru the BT. Maybe a update will fix that? Initial impressions are very good!

    Pros: Love the radio.

Cons: I cannot change songs thru bluetooth control. Fits tight in a late model Ram!

I have very little knowledge and/or experience with car stereos. I just wanted something with reasonably good sound to make hands free cell phone use possible in my 2003 Odyssey. I was assured by the folks at Crutchfield that my Droid should pair up via bluetooth with this Alpine with no problem. Well, apparently they aren't aware that the Razr Maxx (which I told them I had) is THE phone that won't maintain pairing with the Alpine. So it's still a real pain to try to have hands free calling and I'm debating whether to send the unit back unless they (Alpine, Crutchfield or Motorola who all blame the problem on each other) can offer a solution to make it work. I'm SO disappointed.

Pros: It only cost $ to have it installed.

Cons: Reception not as good as factory radio. Won't stay paired with Droid. Bright blue lights. Have to button through all audio sources to get to the one you want.

Purchased to replace a stolen pioneer avic x-710bt nav unit with BT in my 350z. I pretty much knew after seeing the cheap quality microphone that this unit wasn't a good choice. The mic looks terrible and with the over-sized mounting clip makes it even more of an eye sore. When i bought this the description stated that the button colors can be changed, not the case, only the european model. Not pre-ordering anything ever again. And shame on you Crutchfield for overlooking that. The blue tooth is very temperamental, doesn't even connect automatically, i have to turn everything off and back on, reconnect etc. just annoying so i don't use it. Even with the iPod cable attached the same problems occur sometimes. The unit pauses and wont play, sometimes you get very low distorted audio when connecting with front usb. Cheesy old school display and blue buttons just looks cheap and tacky on a nice car. I used to be a die hard Alpine fan, but looking back at it, i was always happier with other brands performance, i guess it was the name and following.

Pros: rotary volume/control knob feels nice and is responsive. Sound quality is good definitely better than most stock headunits.

I like the bluetooth option. The microphone clip is not hard plastic that breaks the first time you try to clip it! It is flexible and durable. I was able to put the mic right up at top of the a pillar. So far all people that I have asked how it sounds, have said it sounds just like on the phone. Cant tell I am on speaker. That is terrific!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very dissatisfied.I installed this in the family car and specifically picked it for it's bluetooth capabilities. Each person in the family has at least one bluetooth device that we would like to stream to the radio. This radio only allows 3 devices to be programmed and stored. Obviously my wife's phone and my phone are in the list. This leaves only one remaining slot in the program for the kids devices. This leaves the kids arguing over who's turn it is to connect their player every time we get in the car. The other really aggravating feature is when streaming Howard Stern(sirius app) or Pandora over the BT. If I get a text message or a calander reminder while streaming, the head unit will display a message that says "BT AUDIO PAUSE". The only way to get my audio back is to close the phone app, change the input to something else for a few seconds, start the app again and then switch the player back to BT audio input. This happened to me at least 10 times today alone!!!! The play/pause button is supposed to function in this situation, but it doesn't work at all. Also, pairing devices is a pain too. Like I said there are only 3 devices that can be stored, so when I want to switch to a new device, I have to navigate to the device list, delete the device, and then I can add it back in again.... I wanted the bluetooth capabilities to make driving safer... it's made it far less safe having to constantly fuss with thees random stupid issues. Going to return it if possible.

Pros: My stock speakers sound great through this unit, The audio quality of bluetooth hands free calls is very good. You can't even tell you're on bluetooth and neither can the person you're talking to.

Cons: Only 3 devices can be programmed and stored into the device. BlueTooth audio streaming is a nightmare on my DroidX.

Bought this to replace the Clarion in my Subaru Forester 2011. Installation was very very easy. I soldered the connector to the Subie adaptor, removed the old radio and plugged in the Alpine. ~30 minutes from start to finish. Setup was very simple too. Pairing to my iPhone was quick and simple. The sound is great. The Alpine is flexible enough to set to my taste and simple enough not to frustrate. The down sides are the scrolling on USB input cannot show both artist and song. There is no gapless playback in MP3 mode. The BT streaming works and sounds great but does not supply metadata to the unit (you do not see song name on unit). The controls can be sluggish when playing via BT streaming. MP3 libraries are limited to 99 folders. Overall the unit is a great buy. The cons listed are really minor and do not detract from my experience.

Pros: Really great sound. Easy to install. Easy to set up. Easy to use. Many options. MP3 search is intuitive and usefull.

Cons: Controls can be sluggish in BT streaming No metadata in BT streaming. No more than 99 forlders in MP3 playback No gapless playback in MP3. Scrolling on MP3 playback does not show both artist and song at same time (requires pushing a button to switch view)

The deck installed easily in my wife's 4runner and sounded great on the factory speakers after a few minor tweaks. The Bluetooth integration was amazing and super easy to use... until she updated her iPhone 4S to iOS 6. Apple switched to an incompatible, updated AVRCP 1.4 standard and now NONE of the BT features work smoothly or as expected, if at all. Specifically, incoming phone calls ring on the Alpine, but the call itself doesn't connect through the speakers. BT audio only sporadically connects or resumes and there is no track control from the Alpine, only the phone itself. Overall, the Alpine pairs with the phone automatically 40% less often than before (was 95%+). Now her deck is no more useful than one half the price. Alpine Support seems to have no interest or timeframe for a firmware update to resolve the issue. All in all, a great deck if you don't have an iPhone.

The radio in this unit is very sensitive and with the distance setting turned on, receives stations that none of our other cars pick up. The stations are stable and fade free. Really a nice surprise. Stereo separation is so much better than the original vehicle radio. This unit easily paired up with our phones and displays our stored numbers making calls quick, easy and with good clarity. In general there are lots of settings to customize the unit's performance but out of the box settings are good to get started. S W Bowers from New Fairfield, CT on 12/28/2012

I was looking to upgrade my current AlpineCDA-9883 to include Bluetooth capability (about a $99 upgrade). When I saw the Alpine CDE-W235BT and that it had Bluetooth built in for $100 more, it was a no brainer. Because my wife purchased it from Crutchfield, they naturaly sent along all of the installation goodies with the receiver. Because I already had the Alpine CDA-9883 installed, I was able to use the exact same connection for the new CDE-W235BT. After inlarging the dash opening with my trusty Leatherman, I had the radio plugged in and powered up in less than 5 minutes. Another 10 minutes to choose my microphone location and run the wire and I was done. Using the Alpine is a snap. I had my iPod and Bluetooth working and all my radio stations programed in 5 minutes flat without using the manual. I'll need to look that over to set-up full control of the iPod but for now it couldn't be better. I feel much safer using the PHONE while connected to the Bluetooth. Calls are crystal clear on both ends. Couldn't be happier. Another SOLID product from Alpine.

Pros: Easy to install, Great sound even with my 'stock' speakers. Awesome value for the money. Looks great in my dash. Simple easy to read buttons. Nice Large Display.

Cons: iPod control could be a little better. Make more use of the large display.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great head unit with pretty intuitive controls. The sound is a nice upgrade to the stock unit that came with our 2009 Sienna. So far, I have kept the stock speakers and even with those, the sound quality improved considerably, most likely due to the equalizer. The bluetooth functionality works very well for calls. Playing music over the bluetooth is so-so, as would be expected. One note, in order to play your iPhone music over the USB, you will need to disable the bluetooth audio feature. After set up, I paired the unit with my wife's iPhone 3G and plugged it into the unit and it played fine. But, once I changed the source and came back to the USB, it would not play, it would just count off the seconds as the song played without being able to hear it. I had to unplug the USB cable and plug it in again to get it to play. I called Crutchfield and they had me do a hard reboot on the iPhone. This initially did the trick but later it would stop playing again if I switched sources. After digging into the online manual, I noticed a feature to allow you to shut off the bluetooth audio playback. Now it works fine. Also, the dash kit I received with the unit required different mounting screws than provided by Alpine. They were too short. That slowed down the install considerably as I had to find screws with the correct thread and length. Overall, this was a great purchase and if it goes on sale, I might buy one for my car as well.

Pros: Great sound and intuitive controls.

    Cons: None noted.

    Not Android Friendly

Paul from Santa Cruz, CA on 12/13/2012

The unit looks OK, but is not very logical when trying to adjust or change things while driving. It's better to sit in your vehicle for a couple of hours with the manual and go through every step to get it set up like you want it. For the life of me, I can't remember how to change the time on the clock, and I can't remember where I put the manual (doh). Bluetooth on the iphone works OK. I had issues with it cutting out for no reason and then coming back on again. Now that I switched to an Android phone, I spend another hour in a parking lot trying to get it to connect, again, sans manual, so it was extremely frustrating. I finally got it to connect, and it disconnect after the first track ended. The screen said "Bluetooth Paused". I had to go into audio settings, turn it off and then back on in order to get it to play. This happens with EVERY song. It makes it worthless for trying to listen to navigation via bluetooth. I don't know if it's an Android issue, or because my phone has the latest bluetooth version and the radio doesn't, but if I could do it all over again, I would not have chosen this model. It doesn't seem to be "future friendly". As technology changes, something that is mounted to your vehicle's dash should be easily upgradable. I wrote to Alpine with no response after a week. Because I purchased this unit primarily for the bluetooth feature, I am sorely disappointed at the lack of compatibility and updates. My advise is to spend more$ on a better unit.

Pros: Sounds better than my stock 05 Tacoma deck

Cons: Bluetooth only seems to work with iphone. Lame!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Recently purchased the Alpine CDE-W235BT as an upgrade for my aging Subaru, I was looking for features like Bluetooth and Pandora streaming, this fit the bill quite nicely. There are a couple of things that leave a little to be desired, the iPod controls don't allow you to scroll the folders and, it might just be me, but I can't seem to figure out to to change the station on Pandora which is a little frustrating. Overall this is a fantastic unit, the Bluetooth is fantastic and works as described. There the sound quality is amazing. If you have a car lacking some of the latest and greatest gadgets this is a great option. I am thinking of putting one of these in my wife's aging Honda. I've read some review's that folks complain about the inability to match color's with car interior, but that is not really an issue, kudos to Alpine for keeping the blue, it is a nice bright easy to read display.

Pros: -It's an Alpine. -Ease of use. -Awesome Bluetooth

Cons: -Pandora and iPod controls leave a little to be desired.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like so many things about this radio. The price is great. With an aftermarket steering wheel control it gives me the same feel that the OEM one had but with some cool new features. The only issue is the Bluetooth which is unfortunate since is the reason I bought the radio. I have tried 4 phones (primarily a Samsung Galaxy S3) with Bluetooth and they all exhibit the same behavior. When I turn the car on, the Bluetooth only "connects" about half the time. I tried rebooting my phone(s) and the radio just stays stuck "Searching". If I turn the car off and then back on (to reboot the radio) it will try to connect again with a new 50-50 chance. I have lots of music and podcasts that I like to listen to and so I need to sit and wait to see if it connects. If not, I turn the car off and back on again until it connects. When I make a stop I leave the car running to avoid going through this again. One other Bluetooth issue is the pause. It seems to get stuck sometimes though where the phone has started playing again but the radio is stuck on "BT Pause". I need to go back to the phone, pause it there so the phone and radio think both think its paused and then try it again on the radio. I have only had to restart the radio a couple of times to clear this. After the effort of installing this, I do not want to return it. Crutchfield offered to take it back but my hope is that Alpine will update the firmware to fix some of these issues.

Pros: When it does connect it sounds great, really great. The USB input is wonderful with one of those micro drives that holds 1000 songs. Crutchfield is phenomenal. Support was very good even if they could not fix the Alpine technical problem. Phone calls sound great.

Cons: The Bluetooth functionality is not reliable. The multi-segment display is not as nice as a bitmap display but for the price its an except-able compromise.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 2003 Silverado. The modified fit note did not apply to my vehicle, it went right in quick and simple. The unit has bigger buttons that a spaced apart enough that you can instantly read them while driving. The bluetooth for phone calls is awesome, I have no idea about for music as I am using a dumb-phone. I have a thumb drive in the usb port, and am very pleased with it's operation. The sound is miles above stock. In fact I have already ordered new speakers because the sound is so good, but the factory speakers are a weak link when you get to feeling froggy. I do not plan to add an amp and subs. I recieve many more radio stations than I did with the stock unit, and the signal from the ones I knew about it stronger. If you are buying one for a dazzling display, buy a touchscreen for a lot more money. If you plan on looking where you are driving, and want straight up information on your display, then the updated alarm clock style will not bother you at all. I want to thank all the other reviewers of this product, and comparable stereos, as I read all of them, and chose this one based on the reviews. I am not disapointed at all. I don't know how high the volume goes because 19 is all I have been able to make it to before I get too old. Also, get the chime thing they say you need, it has the wiring plug that you need, the cheaper one is not very loud, but you can hear it.

Pros: Great sound, easy to use, easy to install, big buttons, easy to read.

Cons: I have not figured out how to re-establish bluetooth connection if you walk away from the vehicle with it running, without shutting off the vehicle and restarting. That doesn't mean there isn't a way, I just haven't found it yet.

It would be nice if remote was included. I bought remote elsewhere since crutchfield was out of stock. Bluetooth works well. Great sound quality when cranked up, not great at low volume levels. I have to scroll through many options to turn on loudness for lower volume tunes. A seperate button for loudness/bass boost would be nice. I am happy with FM stations reception. Though, I would prefer more presets for FM. Set radio to dim face light setting, still too bright at night. I use a 4gb usb flash drive, and it works as expected. Overall I am happy with purchase, and would buy again. Next upgrade: replace factory speakers. Installed in 2006 Fusion.

Prius User from Phoenix, Az on 10/5/2012

Don't get me wrong. This reciever's sound is excellent. Impressive and it sounds better than my previous Alpine stereos I've had in the past. I installed this on a 2012 Prius that has sleek digital instrumentation throughout. The reciever analog buttons and large knob simply stuckout in the car. It looked cheap in the car. I returned the unit for a Alpine IVE-W530 with the large flat display. It turned out to be a better fit for my car, cosmetically.

Pros: Excellent sound. The base and treble came together when I adjusted the freq controls. Impressed with ease of accessing software.

Cons: -The alphanumeric display looks poor. -THe reciever as a whole looks cheap. In my view, the single Din Alpine recievers look better. -The buttons click loudly when depressed. Going through 20 or so songs on USB was troublesome with the Rev/Fow arrow buttons. Some times it work, some not. They feel cheap. -Lighted blue buttons located mainly on the left side of the reciever face. Could be more uniform.

I wanted to be able to use my I-pod in my '04 Mustang but the standard Ford Mach radio didn't have the necessary inputs. The Ford radio was an excellent unit which had the 6 CD changer built in but with the addittion of the I-pod I don't even need the CD's any longer. For the price I even got the excellent built in Bluetooth which let me get rid of my visor mounted unit (it went into my wife's van).

Pros: Excellent display, easy to use and set up. I even found a great place for the external mike at the top of the "A" pillar. Blue lighting looks great at night.

    Cons: Can't think of any.

I didn't want to put an expensive radio that would says "steal me", as she drives all over town and in many different neighborhoods here in S. Florida. This fit the bill just fine, doesn't scream flashy, has lots of features, and sounds really good. Bluetooth features work great with her iPhone4GS. Easy install.

Decent features, but I was very disappointed when I received the unit and noticed how cheap it looked. I purchased it because some reviewed it as a good replacement that looked OEM. I knew the features it was lacking when I bought it, so I cant fault nobody but myself on this one. The bluetooth is cumbersome, display is horrible, looks like a really old model of some sort. Sound was not what I remembered from Alpine either. I also didnt like the way it looked, just bulky and dorky looking IMO.

Pros: -Easy to use -Runs iPhone/iPod -Allows you to operate Siri completely through car stereo -Great Quality, sound and control over sound levels -Phone conversation quality is = or better than my Bluetooth earpiece

Cons: A little hard to scan iPod through deck, as you have to wait for the side scroll to be sure you are on the track you want, does not have pics of album covers and what not. But it is a very small inconvenience for the amount of money I saved going down to this deck.

    Why

Casey from Baltimore, MD on 9/14/2012

This stereo is better than the competition, by why set the bar so low. Put a OLED screen in it similar to the sansa, so you can read it in sunlight and it doesn't burn your retinas at night. HD Radio? Rear AUX? Rear USB? Detailed EQ/balance/DSP profiles(just copy the excelon on this one)? How bout not making a "full featured" reciever that doesn't have glaring omissions. How about not having a screen that looks 15 years old. Not everybody wants a touch screen radio. It's hard to see LCDs in the sun and staring at your screen when you're supposed to be driving is dangerous. Lots of people like the tactical response of buttons and knobs, because you can keep your eyes on the road; not because we don't appreciate cutting edge technology... or perhaps because our phones to a much better job of navigation than our radios do. Recap: Alpine, make a stereo with buttons and knobs with a factory look with a good oled (high-ish resolution / 4-5") screen, HD radio, rear and front AUX/USB, Bluetooth 4.0, good folder navigation, kenwood excelon style detailed sound set up. you will sell a lot of them. license the screen tech from the samsung note 2 or galaxy tab 7.7 for your flagship media head unit. on this model make in internet capable and have it share a connection with your phone via bluetooth. pandora, spotify, google music, podcasts, weather, traffic, you get the idea.

I purchased the Alpine W235BT to replace an older aftermarket radio in my 2005 VW Jetta. I wanted a double DIN to fill the space and get larger buttons and controls plus bluetooth. This receiver fits all my needs: simple, easy to read screen, bluetooth and great fit for double DIN cars. The radio almost looks like a factory reciever and the build quality is top notch. The bluetooth microphone picks up sound very well and I have no complaints from callers on the other end about quality or volume. Crutchfields amazing service made the whole process so easy from ordering to installation. After speaking with my Crutchfield advisor Eddie, I felt like I had made a solid decision on the reciever and a new set of speakers. He personally wrote me a thank you note after I had received my order, that is unheard of today's internet market. After this treatment I will no doubt be buying a large portion of my electronics from Crutchfield.

Pros: Large, easy to read screen and controls. Great Bluetooth sound and microphone quality. Radio sound quality. Design, fit and finish.

Cons: Cannot change display or button colors.

Front Load USB, Bluetooth for Hands Free calling and Audio streaming and most importantly to me an external microphone for the Hands free calling. The unit complements the truck well and have expereinced no issues with it thus far.

Pros: Just the right amount of everything to meet my needs. Big display, an abundance of settings to personalize this unit for me. The Bluetooth paired with my iPhone with no issues. The installation instructions and kit made the replacement almost too easy.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very nice unit that works as advertised and is easy to navigate. The double DIN size makes it easy to find buttons you want. I wish Alpine would make a whole like of 2 DIN products.

Pros: The Good: It is easy to learn to navigate. The design could be improved, especially navigating folders and changing sources, it's fairly intuitive and I've only had to refer to the manual a few times. The sound is a big improvement over the factory stereo and the bluetooth works very well. Callers report that the sound is very good/excellent from the included microphone. It's a little fussy with the use of burned CDs and skips sometimes. It's not terrible but annoying nonetheless.

Cons: The Bad. Navigation although fairly intuitive is kind of a pain. You hit the source button over and over until you get to the source you want. The folder navigation has it's own buttons but they're not marked. The display looks like an old 8 bit, dot matrix video game from the 70's. The display is readable for sure but it looks unrefined. The dimming works but not very much. It gets noticeable more dim when you turn on the lights but it's still very bright when driving on a dark road.

I only bought this and it sounds like a new entire system. You are getting a bunch of bang for the buck! Matches with iPod easily, couldn't be happier with the purchase. The bad points are the instructions are definitely not user friendly. Digital display is really old school and not super easy to read because of the blocky text.

Pros: Bluetooth, iPod, etc integration. Bluetooth works great, best handsfree device.

Cons: Digital Display looks outdated. Instructions are not easy to understand and could be more detailed.

I installed this in my 2007 Crown Vic. It's easy to put a DD in a later model Crown Vic - all you have to do is cut off about 5 mm of plastic trim at the top and bottom of the trim piece. Metra makes a bracket that bolts on to the side of the radio and it works fine. Bluetooth works fine - hooks right up to my iphone 4S. Radio reception is better than in the stock unit. Sound quality is not terrific but that is probably just due to the stock speakers. I only got it a couple of days ago but I'm not terribly impressed with ease of use. The buttons don't make 100% intuitive sense to me. Overall though it seems like a great buy for the money. It has a lot of nice features and I'm glad I got it.

Overall, a very good unit. I like that most of the buttons are fairly large, so many units have such tiny buttons. But I wish it had buttons for more of the features, like BASS, TREBLE, FADER, ETC. instead of being menu driven. Not really a negative since all units are like that now. Using the iPod/iPhone USB feature for music will take some getting used to. I discovered that if your music is in the Cloud (Apple) it will NOT display on the Alpine unit, only iPod/iPhone downloaded music will display and be available for play. I did not install the blue tooth microphone, since I rarely talk on the phone while driving. Installation was quite easy on my Xterra and I do not work on cars at all. Instructions were mostly complete, I just took my time reading through them several times to get it right. Sound quality is better than stock.

Cons: Too many menu driven features, not safe to use while driving Illumination is not controllable through the vehicle dash light control, at least not in my case.

Since installation, which was very simple, I have had no major problems. The only discrepancies I have are that the bluetooth takes a good 15-20 seconds to connect to my phone, so if you always seem to be in a hurry you either have to sacrifice your time or your music. Great Head Unit / Difficult Install

Anonymous from Encinitas, CA on 7/30/2012

    2008 Chevrolet Colorado
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I don't use the Bluetooth features, but the rest that I do use work great (radio, iPod, CD, MP3-CD). I installed into a Chevy Colorado 2008. I bought the GMOS-01 wiring kit (made by Metro, brand name Axxess), the antenna adapter, and the mounting kit (GMK422). Several problems: (1) The mounting kit does not fit the Alpine CDE-W235BT because the stereo has its own faceplate. So either one has to remove the stereo's faceplate, or one cannot use the mounting kit. The stereo comes with a metal sleeve into which it installs nicely with a "click" as long as one can install that sleeve somehow. If the mounting kit is used, the sleeve is also in the way. I chose to leave the Alpine faceplate in place, and had to rivet two angle brackets onto the stereo's sleeve so that the sleeve would fit the car frame. The mounting kit GMK422 was not needed. (2) The original radio has no wire to it that indicates if the headlines are on. Such a (orange) wire is used by the stereo for automatic dimming at night. I hooked into the hazard flasher button illumination wire. Contrary to the instructions, the three orange or orange/white wires from the GMOS adapter do NOT work (not GMOS's fault, there is no wire going to it that indicates the headlines are on). (3) The 16 pin connector of the GMOS adapter has two red wires marked "ignition", the instructions say to connect "the" red wire to the corresponding wire (also red) on the stereo. Postings on the web say either works, I connected both.

Pros: Looks great, sounds great. Door chimes and OnStar work with GMOS-01 adapter. Automatic dimming works (see detailed review). Unobtrusive design. I would buy this unit again.

Cons: Difficult installation (see detailed review).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unit is pretty easy to use overall. However, this is my 2nd try at this. The first unit...everyone said I had drums cutting in on my talking. 2nd unit..eveyone said it was hard to hear me. I am yelling in my car with the microphone about 2 feet away. I bought it mainly for the bluetooth hands free option. The calls come in and sound great. However, when you talk out..the microphone must not work well. The first unit everyone I talked to stated they heard drums in the back. the 2nd unit, everyone described the quality as hard to heard and high pitch hissing. I called alpine and they walked me through adjusting the microphone. Didn't work...I really wanted it to work because the unit fit well, the ease of use was very simple. I was going to just live with the 2nd unit sound issues, but I finally had enough when it was 100 degrees outside windows rolled up, and I had to turn off the A/C because the person I was talking with said it sounded like my windows were down and hard to hear....so with sweat rolling down my back and yelling into the microphone...I decided it was not worth the frustration. .If you are looking for a hands free unit..I would pass on this one. If you don't care about that..then it's a good unit.

Pros: Easy to use and move around in the menu's

Cons: Bad hands free sound quality. Lack of different colors to choose from doesn't work in this day and age.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this receiver! The sound quality is great! My favorite part about it is the Bluetooth. When I get in the car, and turn in on, my music from my iPhone starts playing about 5 seconds later, and when someone calls me, I can click the phone button, and I can talk through the mic, and hear through the speakers. The only reason I gave the build quality a 4 star review was because my dash install kit had a bent plastic part, so I used a hair dryer to bend it back. Other than that It looks great, and I would recommend it to everyone especially if you have an RSX!

Pros: Looks, Easy Ui, Bluetooth, large volume knob, sounds great!

    Cons: Bent plastic part.

The unit fits and works great. A big thumbs up for Crutchfield service department. The bluetooth feature had a problem - I could hear the incoming caller, but they could not hear me. I contacted Crutchfield and they diagnosed it as a bad microphone or a bad MIC input in the unit. They sent a complete new unit out to me in 2 days. Plugging in a new microphone soved the problem. They emailed me a return label to ship the unit back, which made it easy. Thanks for stepping and fixing a bad situation quickly and easily.

Very nice unit that meets all of my needs. Very happy it does not have all of the goofy gimicky color stuff that I have no use for. It's easy to use, sounds great, and plenty of power. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

Pros: It's easy to use, sounds great, and plenty of power.

Cons: No complaints as of yet

Overall, this is a quality aftermarket media player for the price you pay. It does everything that I was looking for, BT phone, BT audio streaming, AUX input and tuner. I would have liked a full screen touch screen, DVD, navigator and equalizer...but you have to pay for that. So, for a minivan that we use infrequently for long trips and hauling kids, this is a much needed improvement over the factory radio.

Pros: Looks nice. Everything that is supposed to work actually works.

Cons: Installing was frustrating. Lots of wires to crimp. Instructions for install was lacking.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was an upgrade to the stock 2000 Accord SE radio to add hands free bluetooth calling for both iPhone 3GS and Samsung Galaxy S2. The iPhone connects to the unit well, phone book & call history is visible. Call audio quality with mic placed above rear view mirror is good; I was able to have a chat with a friend who also was using a hands free car unit and it all sounded great. Haven't been successful with Android...still trying. Connecting to AUX jack with a laptop charging through the cigarette lighter jack causes a severe ground loop buzz....which I will attempt to fix by cutting ground. The BT Audio sound quality from iPhone is definitely lacking both in bass and treble, but quite handy for not dealing with AUX wire. The 3 band EQ is very limiting and has predetermined values for both the Q and frequency that end up being limited. The stock radio had a better sounding EQ. The lights are way too bright...even with the night time dimmer. What were they thinking of? Contacted Alpine USA and there is nothing to do. 1 for coolness factor. The MP3 from CD playback works great...haven't had a skip yet! After 2000kms, I miss the old EQ curve from the stock radio that I have yet to set just right, but the huge decrease in loud volume distortion along with all the other features make my old 2000 seem like a car right off the lot. A worthwhile purchase. Recommended with a bit of caution.

Pros: - easy to install with included kit from Crutchfield - hands free works great with iPhone - MP3 playback is awesome - awesome bang for the buck - great feature set - clean volume

Cons: - lights are way too bright...even when dimmed - EQ adjustments are semi parametric, but severely limited. IMO, stock sound was better - having lots of difficulty connecting Android device - BT audio lacks HIFI - did I mention bright lights??

    Overall- pretty good

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed a CDE-W235BT and have been happy with it overall. It sounds great, even with my stock speakers and the iPhone control is WAY better than the Mazda one. I do have one issue though. Whenever I have my iPhone connected via USB and turn on the receiver, the iPhone starts playing until the Bluetooth connection is initialized then the audio mutes. The display continues as if the track is still playing but no audio. I can get the audio back by momentarily unplugging the USB cord then playback resumes and continues normally. Not a deal breaker but mildly annoying.

    Pros: Sound, value

Cons: Just the minor issue described above

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced an older Pioneer unit that was malfunctioning with this one and I'm totally happy with my decision. Alpine has always had a reputation for good quality and reliability. It looks nice in my dash even though it doesn't have all the cool graphics and stuff like my old pioneer did. However the ease of use and functionality of it is top notch. was able to pair it with my iphone no problem and now I don't even have to take the phone out of my pocket to listen to music or make calls. Everything can be controlled wirelessly right from the head unit. Blue Illumination looks nice and display is bright enough to read in broad daylight while wearing sunglasses. For me it was very easy to install but I have done this a few times before. Sound Quality is very decent and it seems to have plenty of power for whatever speakers you want to pair it with. Overall I'd say there's not much out there that will compete at this price point. I'd highly recommend to anybody wanting a good reliable cd deck with bluetooth connectivity.

Pros: great radio for a great price.

    Cons: none so far

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great unit from Alpine, love the look and looks a bit more stock than some of the other double DINs. The Bluetooth is awesome, although sometimes is get stuck and doesn't pair. I have to turn the car off and retry, and that usually fixes the issue. The ability to stream audio from my iPhone 4S is killer, no need for wires and displays the track info as well. The call quality is sounds good in the car, but some people on the other end complain of noise. I will try some of the other noise-correction settings in the unit to see if they improve the call quality. Overall, super happy with the HU!

Pros: Great looking HU, love the ability to stream Bluetooth audio from my iPhone, CD and Tuner sounds great, makes the stock speakers sound awesome

Cons: Bluetooth mic a bit noisy, sometimes the Bluetooth gets stuck and doesn't pair with my iPhone

As expected this item works perfectly. It by no means is the most feature fulled but if you have a great smart phone and don't need Nav this item streams music and bluetooth phone perfectly. Some button layout leaves something to be desired but for the money you can not do better.

Pros: Value, Bluetooth integration and ease of setup

Cons: Big and does not fit in all dash boards. Required some modification to the sub dash that I was not prepared for. Color change from the default blue would be nice

It's a good stereo for the price, but it doesn't fit too well in a 2012 Outback, and now I have to alter the face plate on the receiver mount. This has nothing to do with this specific stereo or Alpine, but Crutchfield does not know what wiring harness fits the 2012 Outback, so if you buy it from Crutchfield, count on buying a separate wiring harness.

For the $$ I would be suprised if there were a better head unit out there. This is not my first Alpine so I expected quality and that is what I got and more. The Bluetooth music streaming is worth the price alone! Calls are perfectly clear, you can dictate and send txts with Siri, and did I mention stream Pandora.... I truly could not be happier. Sound quality improved immensly over stock and I haven't even put the new speakers I purchased in yet. Looks great in the dash and very easy to use.

Pros: Budget friendly and packed with cool features!

Cons: Would like a color change display.

Parrot is the global leader in wireless devices for mobile phones, for expanded compatibility for many Bluetooth wireless technology enabled cell phones. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: The Alpine CDE-W235BT can be paired to up to three Bluetooth enabled mobile devices (only one device can be used at a time). Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine CDE-W235BT. Parrot software updates provide support for future phones.

External Microphone with Noise Cancellation: The included external microphone (with visor-clip) allows you to speak to the other party on the telephone call hands-free, while the other party's voice is played through your car stereo speakers. The external microphone is tuned and engineered to reduce noise interference and feedback. This allows optimal placement in your car, for the best possible sound quality. You can adjust the microphone's volume level; and even mute the microphone, so your voice will not be heard by the caller. The external microphone measures 0.5625" (diameter) x 1.625" (deep); and features an attached 13' cable terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector.

Receiving Calls: The Alpine CDE-W235BT provides a couple ways to answer your phone calls without picking up your mobile phone. Incoming calls are announced by a caller ring tone through your vehicle's speakers (music will be muted) & a Caller ID message across your Alpine head unit's display.

    • Manual Answer: Manually answer an incoming call by pressing the "Phone" button on your Alpine head unit.
    • Automatic Answer: Set the Alpine head unit to answer the incoming call automatically; when a call is received, it is answered automatically after approximately 5 seconds.
    • Call Waiting: If a second call is received during a current call, you can have the first caller wait momentarily while you take the second call. When you are finished with one call, you can switch to the other.

Placing Calls: The Alpine CDE-W235BT provides a variety of functions for placing a phone call without using your mobile phone. The Alpine CDE-W235BT features full phone book access, call history, voice tag dialing, and redial with compatible phones.

Call Switch: This function allows you to initiate the transfer of audio between your mobile phone and your car's speakers.

Text Message Alert: The CDE-W235BT can give you a notification on the display with a blinking mail icon indicator for 30 seconds while receiving a text message on your Bluetooth-enabled phone. The mail icon indicator will remain on if there is an unread message on a connected mobile phone. You must still read or create a text message from your mobile smartphone.

Audio Streaming: The Alpine CDE-W235BT can stream music from you Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device. Bluetooth Sound Quality Adjustments: You can customize the sound of your Bluetooth hands-free experience to fit your own preferences. You can adjust the CDE-W235BT's mic gain, phone output, & ring tone volume. If that's not enough, there are 5 sound quality settings to choose from to get the balance just right for you. Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Auxiliary Input: The unit is equipped with front-panel minijack (3.5mm) auxiliary input. You can input audio from an auxiliary source unit: such as a portable MP3 player. You can change the name on the display to match the type of device connected to the front panel input; Auxiliary, TV, DVD, Portable, or Game.

    Audio Section

CEA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by Alpine for the built-in amplifier comply with the CEA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

    • CEA-2006 Power Rating: 18 watts x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Max Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels

Preset EQ: You can select from 10 different EQ presets to get the best sound from all your sources. You can choose from Flat, Pops, Rock, News, Jazz, Electric Dance, Hip-Hop, Easy Listening, Country, or Classical.

3-Band Parametric Equalizer: If the Equalizer presets aren't enough for your listening taste, there's a 3-Band Parametric Equalizer you can adjust for a better sound response curve. Bass, Mid, & Treble can be adjusted in the 3-Band Parametric mode.

    • Treble Control:
      • Center Frequency: 7.5kHz, 10kHz (default), 12.5kHz, or 15kHz
      • Width Q: Wide 0.75 or Narrow 1.25
      • Level: -7 to +7 (+/-14dB in 2dB steps)
    • Midrange Control:
      • Center Frequency: 500Hz, 1.0kHz, 1.5kHz, or 2.5kHz
      • Width Q: Wide 0.75, Medium 1.0, Medium 1.25, or Narrow 1.5
      • Level: -7 to +7 (+/-14dB in 2dB steps)
    • Bass Control:
      • Center Frequency: 60Hz, 80Hz (default), 100Hz, or 120Hz
      • Width Q: Wide 0.5, Medium 1.0, Medium 1.5, or Narrow. 2.0
      • Level: -7 to +7 (+/-14dB in 2dB steps)

Loudness: Loudness introduces a special low & high frequency emphasis at low listening levels to compensate for the ear's decreased sensitivity to bass and treble sound at low volume.

Switchable Preamp Output: The unit is equipped with Front/SW preamp output, which can be set to either a fading front-channel preamp output or a non-fading subwoofer preamp output.

Subwoofer Control: When the non-fading subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can adjust the subwoofer's volume, low-pass filter, & phase.

    • Volume: There are two volume (system) modes for the unit's subwoofer output.
      • System 1: Subwoofer level changes according to the main volume setting.
      • System 2: Subwoofer level change is different from the main volume setting (0-15); even at low volume settings, the subwoofer is still audible.
    • Low Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer output low-pass filter can be set to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Off (through).
    • Subwoofer Phase: The subwoofer output phase can be set to Normal (0°) or Reverse (180°).

High Pass Filter: The Alpine head unit is equipped with a high-pass filter for its speaker-level output and front-channel preamp output (when activated). You can set the unit's high-pass filter to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Off (through).

Source Volume Level: The output level of each source is individually adjustable from -5 to + 5 dB.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Alpine CDE-W235BT features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning.

Preset Tuning: The built-in tuner provides 12 FM and 6 AM preset stations. Stations can be preset manually or automatically.

Local/Distance Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. Distance seek tuning allows both strong and weak stations to be tuned.

    Remote Control

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Optional Wireless Remote: The Alpine CDE-W235BT is wireless remote control ready. Simply add on the Alpine RUE-4202 IR remote (500RUE4202, sold separately) to make it even easier to control the head unit's functions.

I couldn't believe it when I saw the opportunity to get an Alpine indash with bluetooth for under $150. This is for my wife, but she still likes to rock out to Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and all of the big 80's hair bands, as well as today's Country. I know, as well as the industry, that Alpine is a strong leader in car audio and I have never forgotten how awesome my very first Alpine indash was!!![ Mark  Jun 23, 2016 ]

I need / want to upgrade the factory system. I have been using Alpine since the early 80's and have had few if any problems with their systems. This deck will fit the factory location, will allow me to still use CD's and the audio that I have already loaded onto thumb drives.[ Vincent  May 05, 2016 ]

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.[ Krissy  Nov 24, 2014 ]  Staff
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You will need to use the PAC MS-FRD1 Ford Sync Radio Replacement interface (item # 541MSFRD1) in order to retain the sync functionality of your vehicle. In addition the PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface (item # 541SWIRC) will be needed to keep the steering wheel controls. When used together you can control the Sync via the steering wheel controls. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.[ Krissy  Nov 14, 2014 ]  Staff

Yes. Complete installation for my car, Toyota celica. Simple instructions. Had it installed in 20mins.[ MARK  Jul 12, 2014 ]
When I installed the unit into an 04 Ford F150 the instructions which came with the unit worked perfectly. The only issue would be having to splice the existing wires to the unit, but the attachment connector helped a great deal. Plus Crutchfield tech assistance is incredible.[ STEPHEN B  Jul 12, 2014 ]
Yes it did cause I had to tie it in with my onstar system. It was great! Hope this answers your question.[ KENNETH W  Jul 12, 2014 ]
Jeff, do you know if the firmware in the units you would sell today is the newest? The reason I need to know is because like the instructions from Alpine say that if you have problems, you could damage the unit. Unfortunately, that was my experience. I want to replace it, but not if I have to update the firmware.[ Bob  Sep 22, 2014 ]

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.[ Krissy  Apr 23, 2014 ]  Staff
Because my installation was in an older vehicle (99 montero), I choose not to activate dimmer fuction, because it could cause reverse polarity and short (and I did experience the problem). I taped the dimmer wire. This problem is not unique the CDE-W235BT it happens on others as well. I liked unit, especially the blue tooth. I also installed the same radio in my daughters 2000 siena van.[ JOSEPH  Apr 21, 2014 ]
There is a illumination wire on harness that is conected to car light wire on vehicle so brightness can be controlled by vehicle dimmer switch.[ PATRICK  Apr 21, 2014 ]
Yes they do work. This stereo is setup for a iphone. I wish someone would design a radio around windows phone since I can only use basic functions on most radios since they only support Apple and Android.[ PATRICK  Apr 21, 2014 ]
Sorry but I am not familiar with aac files[ GLENN  Apr 08, 2014 ]
*** This has been tested on an iOS 4.2.1 Device *** If you want to play the "acc" files directly though a USB device, or Disc the "acc" files will not play.If you plan to attach your iOS device to the unit with an iOS to USB cable, the iOS device will decode the "acc" files and play them on the unit. There are also a number of functions on the unit to control the iOS device, much like the iOS device itself.I've only tested this with an older version iOS 4.2.1 device, any device after 10/12/11 with iOS 5.0.0 has not been tested.[ BRIAN  Apr 08, 2014 ]
Larry, I believe the ESC button stands for 'escape'. Whatever mode you are in, ie; time set, fader, etc, by hitting the escape key it allows you to 'start over'. It will return to your original screen for a 'do over'. The ESC key also acts as a 'hang-up' to terminate a phone call. I hope this helps you some. This is how I have been using the ESC key. Good Luck, Brian R[ BRIAN  Apr 05, 2014 ]
As far as I can tell, it serves mostly as a back button. Most notably when when searching through files or setting up your bluetooth settings. Holding the ESC button for an extended period will take you back to the home screen. Hope this helps.[ LAWRENCE S  Apr 05, 2014 ]

    Six (6) [ STEPHEN B  Mar 05, 2014 ]
Just one, but it supports MP3 & WMA formats... so if you burn your favorite playlists on your computer a single CD can can hold about 13 albums. Personally, I mostly use my unit in AUX mode for my Sirius Satellite and in USB mode to control my iPad. I've also started using a bit of the BT AUX mode to listen to music on my iPhone. Lots of options, and the User Interface is well thought out and ez to use unlike some other units I've used.[ MARK  Mar 05, 2014 ]
As far as I know it is not a multi disc. But using a flash drive Edith music on it does work very well. So you can put your music on your computer and it works great.[ BRENT T  Mar 05, 2014 ]
hi Jeff,The Alpine CDE-W235BT is a single CD playback unit. A single play unit is much more durable....less moving parts.Eric[ ERIC  Mar 05, 2014 ]
