Premium Alpine components

If you've been an Alpine devotee from car to car, their X-Series speakers are your opportunity to take the leap to premium sound. Designed with a laser-focus on superior imaging, this X-S65C 6-1/2" component speaker system will bring out the very best in your audio system. And an all-new magnet design in a cast aluminum frame allows these speakers to have a low profile, so they can fit in a wide array of vehicles.

All about the build

Alpine uses a powerful magnet and a super-efficient motor structure to make the 6-1/2" woofer really strong in the lower frequencies. The woofer cone itself uses a specialized fiber for extreme rigidity while Alpine's proprietary High Amplitude Multi-Roll surround ensures durability in the face of extreme temperatures.

Serious power handling

The separate 1" carbon graphite dome tweeter handles the high frequencies with satisfying accuracy, and its extended frequency response lends a sense of realism and atmosphere unmatched by lesser tweeters. Driven by an aftermarket amplifier, you'll really have a soaring system, thanks to power handling up to a whopping 120 watts RMS.

Features

Cast Aluminum Frame: The woofers feature a cast aluminum frame. The frame is lightweight, yet rigid, to resist flexing during long cone excursions to deliver powerful bass.

Woofer Size: Some manufacturers, including Alpine, call this size woofer a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6-3/4". Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Neodymium Woofer Magnets: Because neodymium produces a much stronger magnetic field than ferrite (of the same size), the magnet size and mounting depth are reduced.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come installed in a surface-mount housing. No flush mount option is included. The installed tweeter dimensions are:

  Surface Mount
Mounting Depth N/A (screw depth)
Mounting Height 1.335"
Frame Diameter 1.968"

Crossovers: The tweeters' high-pass crossovers are in-line between the woofers and tweeters. Two-sided tape is included to mount the high pass crossovers and their dimensions are:

  • Width: 1.81"
  • Height: 1.21"
  • Depth: 2.76" (3.25" including wire)

Tweeter Attenuation: Each crossover has three tweeter level options, allowing you to precisely tune the high frequencies to the car interior and tweeter placement. Using the supplied jumpers select -3 dB, 0dB (flat), or +6dB. Other jumpers allow reversing the tweeter phase.

Q
Quest I have the 5 channel Alpine PDX amp sufficient enough to power 4 of the speakers I'm not using the sunwoofer channel on the pdx if that makes a difference???

A
They should match quite nicely. Technically, the speakers will handle 10% more RMS power, but that's pretty darn close, all things considered.

Q
What size quick connectors do these take?

A
The woofers takes 0.25" and 0.187" quick slide connectors found in this pack: www.crutchfield.com/p_120FQS10PK/item.html

Q
What amp would you use to power these?

Alpine X-A70F (4-channel, Class D). A-Class high fidelity amps, feed by an Astrell&Kern SP2000 DAP with FLAC/Lossless files would be a great match, as well.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your speakers I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
I'm wondering about the crossover network. From what i can see the crossover module only has one input and output for the tweeter. What's stopping the woofer from reproducing high end frequencies?
stuart  May 11, 2018

A
Unfortunately the previous answer is incorrect. The mid woofer IS in fact receiving full range, on purpose. A note as per documentation from Alpine on the design: "With the introduction of the nanofiber cone, the X-Series' midrange is capable of reproducing some incredible detail in the upper frequency range, known as transients. These harmonic notes are details lost when a low pass filter is introduced. Along with limiting these frequencies, a low pass filter can introduce phase shifts in the upper frequency ranges which create time smearing and other phase issues. To ensure proper detail reproduction and imaging, we allow the midrange to play in full range and include a simple high pass filter for the tweeter."

The crossover for the XS65c is not the traditional signial in with mid and tweeter out. One set of the crossover wires connects to one of two sets of terminals on the mid woofer, and the other set connects to connectors coming off the tweeter. I can assure you that the most d woofer isn't receiving high frequencies. This is one of the best sounding sets of component speakers that I have ever heard. Alpine is known for producing high quality equipment, and the X series are their flagship models.

Caponet speaker best?

There are applications and audio goals that do make them the best, but then there are also times when coaxial speakers are the best choice. I recommend calling an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101
