Video and Bluetooth® in one sweet package

If your car has a double-DIN (4" tall) dash opening, you're all set to equip your car for movies, hands-free calling, and wireless audio streaming with Soundstream's VR-652NB. This versatile DVD receiver sports a bright 6.5" display with touchscreen controls, perfect for watching DVDs when your car's parked. The receiver's built-in Bluetooth offers hands-free calling, and you'll appreciate the easy-to-use touchscreen when you're making outgoing calls. And Bluetooth audio streaming lets you send music to the receiver from compatible devices.

Music central

When you're ready for some music, take your choice. You've got a front-panel USB input for memory devices, while the front-panel audio/video input provides a convenient connection for your portable audio player, a camcorder, or another video source. You can slide a card loaded with music into the SD card slot on the front panel. And of course you can play CDs and DVDs, both store-bought and home-burned. You'll find five preset tone curves that'll match the sound to the music you're listening to.

Audio and video from your iPod® and iPhone®

Soundstream's optional IC-3 cable connects your compatible iPod or iPhone® to the receiver, so you can enjoy listening to your playlists when you're on the road, and viewing video content when parked. You'll control and charge your device while it's connected, too. Compatible iPod and iPhone models are listed in the "Details" section.

Add navigation

Plug in Soundstream's optional NAVIBOX-2 in and then use the receiver's touchscreen controls to take charge. You can choose a destination by entering a specific street address or intersection, or by selecting a hotel, restaurant, shop, or another of the twelve million points of interest. You'll see the preloaded road maps of the U.S. and Canada on your receiver's video screen, as it displays your current position and your destination with an option to select 2-D or 3-D views.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use a special adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the receiver, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver and its optional iPod adapter.

the unit has a usb port to hook up a mp3 player/ ipod / i phone. sd card output can be useful also. the soundstream has lots of features but getting from one feature to the next is a slow interface. sometimes it would be nice to have a real button to press for radio, cd/dvd, ipod, sd card instead of using the touch screen. occasionally i use am radio for listening to news/traffic report. the am radio reception quality is poor.

    Pros: lots of options

Cons: slow interface to switch from features, would be nice to have separate buttons

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great system!, works great, easy to use. The faceplate did not fit well, and took a lot of work to make it fit. The stereo took about 45 minutes to install, however I spend almost 4 hours messing with the faceplate so that it would somewhat fit on the dash. The DIP switch settings for the steering wheel controls were not listed and I had to try all the settings to get it to work. Even now, sometimes using the steering wheel controls for volume, the stereo would forward to next song when I increase volume. Frustrating sometimes.

Pros: Get your bang for the buck!

Cons: I installed this into my 2010 BMW 328i. The faceplate does not fit well, and required a lot of work to make it fit. The face plate could've been molded better. I spend 45 minutes installing the radio, and 4 hours messing with the face plate. Also, the factory steering adapter did not list the DIP switch selection for this radio, i had to try multiple DIP settings to get it to work.

I purchased this Stereo a few wekks ago, bcause of price and Bluetooth connectivity. After I received it and connected it. I find that there are too many steps to get to another use. It has multiple use and apps. Driving a car and operating these apps...not a good idea..pull over and read the book

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love the bluetooth on this model but thats about it. I ordered another model but sent it back because it didnt have bluetooth, this model is not user friendly. The dimming feature is a pain to use and the screen is very bright when driving, you have to pull over to dimm it. The touch screen has a bit of a delay. I'm more than likely sending this unit back also. Not very impressed.

    Pros: Bluetooth

Cons: Mobile connections Radio is very unclear The display is dated looking Not easy to do anything while driving

Seems like a solid unit. Install was straightforward. Instructions and wiring harness were easy.

Pros: Nice bright screen. Easy to sync with Bluetooth. Was on sale, so a great value.

Cons: Nice BRIGHT screen! At night it's very bright. Need to keep 'dim' button in my most used area. Often I turn the display completely off! Does not have RDA (where your song title & artist display on your screen) .

    2001 Ford Ranger
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Finished the install today after bench testing. Crutchfield made that part easy. All the documentation I needed and all the parts I needed. That's why I buy this stuff at Crutchfield. You get what you pay for and this delivers for the price. With all the nice displays out there these guys went with those ring tabs that look like you bought it from Hong Kong. If what you want is a nice radio/dvd player for the price in your car this will serve if you don't go to the home screen when your friends are with you.

Pros: Pretty good sound quality, but I'm not a Audiophile. Plenty good enough for a truck. Easy installation, Bright and easy to read. Reasonability intuitive after the setup is done. The Phone works pretty good but there is no voice dialing, It does read your phone books but displays them funny. The list doesn't fill up but there are more entries on the next page.

Cons: Those silly ring tabs are a pain to get in the position I want them, but once done it's OK. Sluggish response. The Clock may as well not be there at all. It doesn't show on most screens and when it does it's so small you could have a wreck trying to read it.

Mounted nicely into my 2003 Chevy Express van. I'm not sure why, but Crutchfield said it would not fit my truck, however with a Metra install kit and a little trimming here and there, it fit just fine.

    Love this item!

Kersey1999 from Winfield, Alabama on 3/12/2014

After a longer than expected install, my son and I installed this in our F-250. The sound is great, the options are great, put cd in dvd player with no playback, may be because I have not hooked brake wire up yet, gotta figure that out.

Pros: Great sound from this unit, multiple options available, plenty of user specific settings. Great product for the price. I live out in the country and radio reception is typically difficult to get, worked fine even on far away stations that I normally don't get without static.

Cons: Only one phone can be connected at a time, wish rear view camera came with the unit.

    good bang for the buck$$$

Rickyton from Orlando, FL on 3/12/2014

Looks good in my 2009 Camry...sounds way better than my stock...the only thing that sucks is the radio be fading out sometimes... but I hardly use Fm... Other than that I use the bluetooth for my Sirius xm app and music and it's flawless...usb and sd card work fine...picture on DVD is pretty good... If looking for nice priced double din...this is a good far love it...

Pros: Bluetooth is a ++ for price

Cons: radio Fm receiver fades out

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Its kinda slow and clumsy. Takes awhile to get used too. Kinda like a really old smart phone. Really hard install.

Pros: Blue tooth. Works with music and phone call. Easy awnser and end call hard buttons on side. Cd/dvd slot in the front instead having to move the screen. Buying from Crutchfield helps. Great advice and know how

Cons: Multi-funtion power button sucks. Hit a bump while turning up volume and you change media. Crappy radio reception. Slow reaction time. Chop up half your dash to get it installed. Got to use the dvd player to play cds

    Good, not great

    2009 MINI Cooper
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in a 2009 Mini Cooper S. It sounds good hooked up to my MB Quart speakers front/rear, and seems to work pretty well. It was easy to figure out, and everything works as advertised. Has TONS of features and really cannot be beat at this price point.

Pros: Price DVDs play nice Bluetooth works good with my iPhone 4s: audio, calls, navigation all work flawlessly when Bluetooth mode is selected Radio pulls in stations w/ no problem Sounds good

Cons: Annoying splash screen that plays EVERY TIME the unit boots up Bluetooth phone/directions only work when Bluetooth function is selected; it should interrupt other functions for incoming calls and Bluetooth turn-by-turn audio, but doesn't. My stock unit did this. Unit's menus and buttons are sort of cheesy looking. Could have a lot cleaner interface and not look so cheap, but no big deal I guess as it IS really cheap.

    Solid unit, great price

    2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 2004 Silverado. Has to make a few small cuts to get it to fit but nothing big or difficult and one installed, perfect fit with the include mount kit. Installation was pretty straight forward. Instructions are pretty clear as far as wiring goes. This unit has features on it that you would have to pay much more for on other brands and the sound is good without an amp, although I will end up adding one and upgrading speakers soon. Radio: it appears that it does not get as good of reception as my stock unit did. Plenty of presets, AM and FM. You do have to cycle through each group to get back to first group which could be made easier with tabs of each but thats being picky. SD Card/ USB: I've heard others say that the indexing is slow but using a 16 GB card that is over half full of songs hasn't been an issue for me. No lag at all. Songns can be searched by the number they are on the card but it would be more useful to be able to search alphabetically. TV: still haven't figured out how to get reception on the analog and maybe living in this hilly area it's not possible, but for the most part it's worthless as it picks up absolutely nothing. Doubtful I'll even look into the digital ad I don't feel like paying extra for that. Nav: can't comment on that as I haven't got the add on navibox and since nobody can tell me if the map updates cost. DVD: good picture, slow to start.

Pros: Features found in more pricey units Quality seems good

Cons: Tv and nav add one Redundancy of controls

    I like it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit yesterday and I am very pleased so far. The connections were simple and the install was pretty easy even for a rookie like me. The sound quality is better that the stock bose system in my 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax. The controls aren't super intuitive but once I played around for a bit I was able to figure them out. I purchased a Navibox-2 from another source and had no problems with the hook up. I like that I can listen to my bluetooth, radio, etc and still hear my upcoming directions. Also the back up camera system works well with a good screen quality. Overall very pleased with it for the price. Five stars based on that alone.

Pros: Great price, easy install, great sound.

Cons: Clunky user interface, Clock is not visible on all screens and when it is visible it is kind of small.

This is absolute garbage. The touch screen is horrible. Bluetooth works sometimes...sometimes. The directions are terrible as well. There are no instructions on how to actually navigate, and it takes a LOT of time to learn and set it up. Sound quality is mediocre, too. Honestly, i wish i just stuck with the stock head unit. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A pretty descent product for the money. As with any project I start, my actual time spent installing versus my assumption of time required was about double.

Pros: Easy to use wiring diagrams and phone support for any questions. I was emailed pictures of the correct wires to splice into. That in itself is a major plus for the Crutchfield purchase. Volume knob is nice to have, as is the ability to completely turn off the screen for night time driving. I added a backup camera with this installation, and it works flawlessly.

Cons: As with others, I feel the clock is a bit too small, but I'll deal with that. Also, the volume knob is a little difficult to use with the associated dash modification kit that it came with, but it is much better than having to poke at the screen to change the volume.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, a nice receiver. The included Crutchfield wiring harness matched perfectly to the factory connector and installation instructions made the daunting task of removing the dash to get to the radio a snap. However, the receiver did not have some features I was ASSUMING would be on a new unit so I returned for one that did.

Pros: USB and memory card access on front. Bluetooth connectivity to phone.

Cons: Clock is tiny. I need a clock I can glance at while commuting to know if i'm late or not. Does not have RDS. I like to have the radio station name and song info displayed. Did not like the left and right scrolling on the main menu. All main app functions should be displayed on one screen.

    Great bang for the buck

JET from Fort Myers, FL on 1/1/2014

    2003 Pontiac Vibe
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was straightforward and made very simple by the clearly marked wiring harness and the (free) included factory wiring harness adapter. Screen is clear and bright, but at night, overly bright, even with the dimmer wire activated with headlights on. It comes down one level but still too bright, so keeping the dimmer "widget" on the main screen is a must, but even that is made easy by the customizable main screen. Sound quality is clear and very good for a unit in this price range. Has a great array of inputs (iPod, Bluetooth, USB, SD, rear cam, etc.) and outputs (separate front/rear/sub RCAs). Only real downside I found was the lack of support for radio data system, which is found in even some of the most basic receivers these days (not to mention the factory head unit this replaced). Not a deal killer, but an odd oversight, especially when one is used to having it. Agree with the many other reviews that mention the size of the clock, but it's there and usable... Overall a great buy for the money and I would recommend this unit to anyone looking to upgrade to a DVD unit (or simply upgrading any factory head unit).

Pros: Inexpensive, Good feature set, sharp, clear screen, well marked wiring harness, easy to install.

Cons: No RDS radio data to show track/artist/station info, not satellite ready, not HD radio compatible

Features were attractive, ability to add features was attractive, price was attractive but stereo was bad out of the box. Customer service was good on sending out a replacement. Install manual for wire adapter does not show or explain all wires provided.

    Pros: Many nice features

Cons: Bad radio out of box, waiting to install replacement to test quality of unit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very pleasantly surprised to get a great reciever/media player for this price. It sounds good and the screen looks good whether playing movies or navigating menus. The menus are very inuitive and easy to find your way through. This was very important as this one is for my girlfriend who hates complicated stereos even if they do sound great.

Pros: ease of use and decent sound quality. Lots of functions built in plus add ons available to upgrade it down the road. Also the hands free phone setup work great and the sound through it is pretty good. has front, rear and sub RCA's plus sub crossover and control.

Cons: Could have a highpass x-over but no biggy since my amp has it covered for 2 channels and I have a crossover I can ad for the other 2.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pleasantly surprised. I'm an old guy with 40 years of loyatly to brand names like Sony, Kenwood, and Pioneer. I knew nothing about Soundstream. The quality of the unit, wiring and face are as good as or better than any car stereo I've seen. It took me about 2 hours to complete the swap (removed my Honda CRV factory double din stereo, matched the Soundstream wires to the free Crutchfield harness, and bolted the new unit into place). I chose to reuse the Honda steel side brackets that unscrewed from the old unit and matched the multiple side slots on the new unit. The unit powered up immediately and I had instant excellent stereo reception playing through my 4 Honda OEM speakers. Very pleased. Programming channels was intuitive and simple. I didn't buy the optional TV or NAV boxes that can plug into the back because that doubles the price... maybe later I'll add them. The DVD, IPod, SD card, and Bluetooth to my IPhone 5s worked perfectly, like sitting at a computer. Cool ideas, especially the SD slot which can play the card from my GoPro right after filming. Navigating the inputs and features is a learning experience; I recommend an hour or more in the garage - don't try to learn while driving. Works perfectly. The screen is very bright at night but the dimming button can be added to the home screen for easy adjustment.

Pros: So many inputs. Everything works.

    Cons: Tiny clock.

If you want touch screen, DVD, navi, or a rear view camera this is sweet!

Pros: Seems to be built with quality for the price as it alone had me doing a double take. I'm very happy with this radio- although I've only had it installed for 2 weeks and actually used it for 3 hours.

Cons: Seems to take its time when selecting with the touch screen- I haven't tried the remote yet. Not happy with the am/fm reception!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed it on 2011 Toyota RAV4 Base model It deliver on everything what it says. I feel good about my car's audio system (Factory speaker only). It provide X-Bass and loud option which are really good. Bluetooth connects well and easy to use. Menu is little slow to go to missed and received call but its ok but should be little better. USB works fine so far. DVD read is slow. All in all for the money I am satisfied with the all the functions. I must mention this, thanks to Crutchfield tech team, they store your phone number with order number so when you call you dont need to tell anything and they have all information ready. They provide good information over the phone, especially this is my first time installing any interior on my car and have lot of simple question, having someone to clear the air is good. Though I would be ready to pay little more for wire connection to be joint because that took me the most time is the wired connection of adapters.

Pros: Bluetooth audio quality is good USB read is fast

Cons: DVD read is little slow than I expected.

This is a fantastic radio. The install was really easy, it works great and it also has a ton of awesome features. TV/DVD/Supports Backup camera. in the description it says it doesn't have pandora support/controls; but when you pair the phone/mp3 player va bluetooth the music function buttons will actually lets you pause/play/skip songs which was a really nice surprise.

Pros: clean looking good price works perfectly easy to set up and change settings

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this unit along with the Accele RVCLPMB Backup Camera for my 2008 Ford F150 XLT. Both units work well together and the camera video quality is good. I also installed the Navigation system and it works very well. I'm very pleased with this unit and the other items I've parred with it, and highly recommend it. The quality and engineering are better than expected for the price.

Pros: The sound quality is much better than the standard radio that it replaced. Bluetooth works great and connects quickly.

Cons: Microphone pickup on the unit needs improvement. Clock is a must for Bluetooth operation and needs to be larger display overall. Due to my slowness it took 6-8 hours to install the Soundstream and the Backup Camera. I for sure will not be opening an installation business any time soon!

If you have small fingers and you have better than 20-20 vision, then it's ok. The on and off button as well as the volume is all the way in the left hand corner. Hard to raise the volume and when trying to do so, you end up either turning it off or changing the menu. The blue tooth sucks. Very hard to match up the unit with the phone and when you do match it up, when getting a in coming call, it cuts off in 2-3 seconds. No E.Q. that you can adjust. All you have is 5 presets that comes with the unit. Don't waste your money on this, spend a little more and get something that won't give you problems.

    Pros: None.

Cons: Bad unit, Bad blue tooth, Bad design and Old looking.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice head unit with adequate features. I wanted a double-din unit that was bluetooth capable, which this one is. Install was super easy, thanks to the directions and install kit Crutchfield provides for free. Set up was pretty easy and intuitive. Not sure why the subwoofer adjustments are made in a different screen than the EQ screen. I do have a couple of minor negatives, though. When listening to an AV device, the screen only displays "No Signal," and is kind of bright when it's dark outside. You can dim it to black, though. The clock needs to be bigger. Installing this into my Mazdaspeed3 results in the integrated display panel (with the clock) to be inoperative, so the only clock I have is on the's much too small. I haven't watched any DVDs on it, so I can't comment on the screen's resolution; however, with the back-up camera the picture is clear as can be. I like having the ability to talk hands-free through the radio, plus I was able to sync all the contacts from my phone to the radio very easily.

Pros: Decent price Bluetooth Easily sync phone contacts Ample radio pre-sets A/V input

Cons: Touch screen sensitivity not great Mono subwoofer output Clock too small

Nice unit for the price. I installed it on a Scion FR-S without too much trouble. A few calls to Crutchfield took care of a couple of install issues due to my own stupidity and lack of knowledge. Well...reading the instruction manual would have helped... I also installed the Navibox-2 and and a rear view camera. All around a nice system considering the price. Sound is just as good if not better with factory speakers, much better BT interface with touch screen, quick boot-up and easy to operate. I miss the HD tuner but I can live without it, a rear view camera and Navi were higher priorities.

Pros: Good looks, easy operation, rear view camera and and navigation ready.

Cons: No HD radio tuner, no RDS.

Parking Brake Detection: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. 2-DIN Chassis: The VR-652NB has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

Hands-free Communication w/ External Mic: The VR-652NB supports wireless hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The VR-652NB allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. The VR-652NB utilizes a Noise & Echo Cancelling feature to reduce noise & echo generated during hands-free conversation. The VR-652NB allows you to answer the call manually from the head unit or automatically. Incoming phone call information will be displayed on the unit's LCD monitor. You can make a call from the VR-652NB using the unit's on-screen keypad (0-9), your transferred Phone Book, or a call history data log of dialed and received calls. Your car audio speakers will mute automatically during a call. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, you can use the existing Rockford Fosgate sound system when you install a new receiver. You will need to use item #120707551 with a receiver that has at least two pair (4-channels) of preamp outputs so that you can retain the fader. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Mar 28, 2014 ]  Staff

Yes, but I would not recommend this unit because it had trouble with coming unpaired and the sound quality was not very good. I returned mine and ended up buying a pioneer which I really like. Good luck! [ BRIAN  Mar 16, 2014 ]

Eustacio, There isn't an equalizer that you can adjust yourself but you can boost the low and high frequencies in the settings. You can also set the subwoofer settings too. There are several presets like rock, classical, etc. I really like this unit. The only things I don't like is that the FM receiver doesn't pull in stations very well and the volume status stays on the screen for way too long after you make an adjustment. Other than that this unit was well worth the money. Hope you like yours too.Lynn C [ DALE L  Feb 27, 2014 ]
Yes, this unit has an equalizer with several presets as well as a customizable personal preset eq setting. There is a tab for adjusting the bass, treble, balance and fader at any time. [ JONATHAN  Jan 27, 2014 ]
Yes you can adjust the bass and terble balance, fadar separately. It also does come with preset eq settings and you can perset your own eq setting. Hope this helps. [ DAVID  Jan 23, 2014 ]
There are adjustments available for bass, treble, balance, and fader, as well as subwoofer adjustments (level, crossover frequency, etc.).There is also a separate "bass boost" adjustment and a loudness option (on/off). [ JOSE  Jan 23, 2014 ]
There are EQ settings, like you said, rock, classical, etc. There is also a user customizable setting. No "typical" bass, treble, or fader. I upgraded to a JVC unit with a little more "old school" control. [ KARL  Jan 23, 2014 ]
