With Soundstream's VR-722HB DVD receiver, you can quickly access your favorite media from its big icon-based 7" LCD touchscreen display. You can choose from Bluetooth®, CD, DVD, USB, or AM/FM radio, plus you can check out your smartphone's apps onscreen by using the MobileLink™ feature. When you're done, the motorized display retracts into its single-DIN (2" tall) chassis for a low-profile look.

MobileLink for your smartphone

Soundstream's MobileLink function displays your phone's screen information on the receiver's big screen, providing you an easier way to see your apps at a glance. You can check out turn-by-turn directions from your navigation apps, as well as artist and track info from your music apps. You'll use your smartphone to control the apps, but you can check them out on the receiver's larger 7" display.

The VR-722HB's MobileLink uses the receiver's rear HDMI input to display your smartphone's apps, and the rear USB port charges your phone. Here's what you need depending on your smartphone:

Go wireless with Bluetooth

Bluetooth gives you hands-free calling convenience, plus a wireless connection to the songs stored on your compatible music player. Soundstream includes a sensitive built-in microphone that's close to you on the front panel, so callers can hear you loud and clear.

Audio and video options

You can play your MP3 and WMA music using the VR-722HB's front USB input or DVD/CD player. Once you've picked your music, you can tweak it with the five EQ presets. You can also use the two sets of preamp outputs to add amps to your system for more power.

Use the VR-722HB's front analog audio/video input to hook up your favorite portable audio player, game console, or another video source. This receiver provides two video outputs to send movies to rear video screens, so you can keep backseat conflicts to a minimum. You'll appreciate the input for a rear-view camera — it's a big help when you're maneuvering your vehicle in tight spaces.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio was easy to install and looks cool in the dash. But there are a few issues with this radio. The front USB input does not recognize my iPhone 5. It only plays through Bluetooth, and it will not display any song information. Only basic pause, forward and backward controls are available. The sound from Bluetooth is horrendous. I can make and receive calls from the in-dash unit but it will not import my contacts. Crutchfield has been unable to assist. They suggested I contact Soundstream. Today i hooked up my iPhone with the mobile link while playing songs through Bluetooth and my phone simply did not charge, but instead died. This radio has too many problems. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks for a brand name radio.

Pros: Easy install, and looks cool when the screen is up

Cons: the Bluetooth sound is terrible. There is no preamp output. Will not import contacts from iPhone 5. Will not charge or play IPhone from front USB input. Will not charged when hooked up to mobile link and playing songs from phone through the Bluetooth connection, which is the only way you can play songs from your phone. Just a basic screen in Bluetooth music mode - no song info.

bought to replace old radio love it people say volume id to low but I have no problem sounds good to me maybe they need to get better speakers but im very happy with what I got..

Pros: talk on phone through Bluetooth and stream music great product

Cons: the only thing I did not like is I had to buy a adapter to hook up my phone to it so I could use GPS other than that I like it..

    Its OK, I guess...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to rplace my factory MB radio and was kinda let down. The volume of the radio is low! I find myself riding around town especially when the windows are down with radio on full blast which is like 40, and it only sounds halfway loud as opposed to other sound systems. My next gripe is the bluetooth function, alot of times the bluetooth signal will drop or I have to restart the connection all over again! Last problem is the basic'ness of the radio. The screen layouts are so 80's...this radio does it all but just needs better presentation...there is no way to change colors, no wallpaper's, when you switch it to aux or av' the whole screen just goes black! The remote has like a million buttons as do most aftermarket stereo's but about half of the buttons you dont use or it will say on the screen "Invalid Key" -and needs bigger clock

Pros: Price, Plays movie's, can expand the system

    Cons: sound quality,performance,presentation,clock is small

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, I suppose I can't complain. There are several factors that I have discovered that make this even less attractive to me.

Pros: It looks cool and seems to be sturdy. Short of that, it doesn't really impress me.

Cons: When playing a cd and needing to adjust settings, the music stops. Once bass or treble is adjusted, you have to wait on the disk to reload.I can't get the USB in the front to recognize a drive at all. There are only 4 preamps out instead of separate bass controls which has caused much heartache. I knew this going in but I now regret selecting this unit because of it. The touch screen is very slow to respond to any adjustments.

    Good for the price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It is a good system for the price. I bought brand new speakers and it still is not loud I cannot use random for specific folders on USB, it randomizes all songs on the USB. So, i have to have different USBs for each category I am feeling that day. I have had it for a week now and no other problems

Pros: It flips up Easy switching from modes It does not vibrate or move while driving

Cons: Clock is way to small and cannot be read if playing a song off USB USB is hard to navigate through songs and randomizing them

You get what you pay for

It went in pretty easy, and sounded great for the 3 hours it worked, then it just quit. Tested it all out and yep, it died. All things considered, the cost per hour was quite high!

Pros: Price was the only reason to purchase this, but just save your money and get something of better quality.

Cons: When it worked, it was fine, but since it died I haven't had any other problems (sarcasm in case you don't get it...)

It looks great, built great, worst sound on the planet. This thing is QUIET. It doesn't go loud. Lathe video is okay but even that sucks. Don't waste your money

    Cons: Everything

Crutchfield response on 6/2/2014 Our Tech Support team reached out to the customer and after some troubleshooting, he decided to return the stereo. We believe there may have been a defect in the amplifier on that particular unit. Of course, when it comes back, our Returns guys will test it out and determine whether there's actually anything wrong with the stereo.

Parking Brake Detection: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the pink wire of the included harness must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged.

Remote Control: The Soundstream VR-722HB includes a 40-button IR remote control for wireless operation of the multimedia unit. The head unit also features an OEM steering wheel remote control input that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with the Farenheit Steering Wheel Control Interface (sold separately; not available at Crutchfield).

    Smartphone Integration

The HDMI connection provides the audio/video playback, while the USB connection charges your compatible Apple iOS or Android device (max. 0.5A). Even though the VR-722HB will mirror the display of your connected device, it will not allow you to operate playback functions of your mobile device; you will still continue to use your Apple iOS or Android device's touchscreen to navigate your smartphone's menu and control audio/video playback. You will need to purchase additional cables for connection based on your type of smartphone device (see below).

    • Apple iOS Connectivity: If you have an Apple iPhone 4/4S or iPod touch (4th gen) with a 30-pin Dock connector, you will need Soundstream's 30-pin to HDMI/USB cable (530HDMI4, sold separately). • Android Connectivity: Most MHL-enabled Android devices, will require Soundstream's microUSB 5-pin to HDMI/USB cable (530HDMA2, sold separately). If you have a Samsung Galaxy S3/S4 or Note II/III, you will need Soundstream's microUSB 11-pin to HDMI/USB cable (530HDMA3, sold separately).

You can make a call from the VR-722HB using the unit's on-screen keypad (0-9) or a call history data log of dialed, received, and missed calls. Your car audio speakers will mute automatically during a call. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.
    • Audio Streaming: The Soundstream VR-722HB also allows you to play back stored music and streamed music from your Bluetooth enabled phone, PDA, or personal music player using a Bluetooth connection.
