Rockford Fosgate showcases their fanatical commitment to sonic excellence in the Punch Series of speakers, amps, and subs. If you like to listen to potent, powerful music — and feel it too — Punch components will give you impressive sound that'll stand out in a crowd.

Engineers at Rockford Fosgate designed the P1S2-15 15" subwoofer to dish out the kind of powerful low end you crave in your ride. Its responsive paper cone is reinforced with the same Kevlar® fibers used in bulletproof vests so you get the best of both worlds — warm bass that's exceptionally hard-hitting. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

The P1S2-15 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out." This sub works equally well in a sealed or ported enclosure, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system. The sub's 2-ohm impedance will draw maximum wattage from your mono sub amp.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 200 and 375 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Great performance for the price.

Great performance for the price.

Pros: Price and sound.

Cons: I see no cons that would not change your mind about this speaker other than the construction and materials used are not as nice as the pricier versions.

Got exactly what I was looking for, some boom in the back.

Pros: Easy install, had subs in box and all wired in within an hour and it immediately delivered the bass tones I was looking for. Not the loudest in town but it knocked my rear view mirror off the windshield on my first day.

Cons: None so far.

This is a great subwoofer for the money. It plays loud when I need it to and sounds good in a non-ported box. I am very grateful to Crutchfield for how easy they make the whole experience of buying from their website. I'm very happy!

Pros: Loud Sounds good for the money Inexpensive Plays very low

Cons: Doesn't have the range of some other subs

Speakers are great addition to my system. They will get loud if you pump the power and have great sound quality. I currently have 2 in a custom box and will be buying another 2 to overkill it. I would recommend this to anybody needing more boom than your 10s or 12s will give with out suffering bad sound quality.

Product Research

Enclosure Compatibility

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S2-15 is a 15-inch subwoofer with a single 2Ω voice coil. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, a Kevlar fiber reinforced paper cone, and NBR surround (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber). An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Steel Basket: The P1S2-15 subwoofer features a StampCast steel basket for added rigidity.

Compression Terminals: The P1S2-15 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P1S2-15 conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle its rated power under continuous demand, not just instantaneously, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a decorative trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the PVC trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the mounting height of the woofer to 7/8 of an inch and the frame diameter to approximately 16-3/8 inches.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.58 cubic feet (from 1.3 to 3.5 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.66 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 8" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 34.4 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 33 Hz).

Why did you buy this?

Cheap and on sale for a large sub like this. [ Nathaniel  Feb 22, 2017 ]
Lowest price. To repair the old RF would cost $50. just for parts. $85 covers my labor and I get an all new speaker. It's going in my garage system [ John  Feb 13, 2017 ]
