High-grade internal components mean high-power output.

Even heat dispersal for longer life

Dynamic Thermal Management

The award-winning "Dynamic Thermal Management" 3-stage cooling system uses forced air to dissipate heat evenly across the amp and out through the heatsink. The internal components in these compact amps stay cooler, resulting in higher efficiency and lower distortion. You get more installation options, without sacrificing wattage or audio quality.

MEHSA cooling process

MEHSA is a Rockford Fosgate proprietary process that increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET devices to the heatsink. This allows the heat to escape more readily from the amplifier, so that the transistors stay cooler.

Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application increases heat transfer away from the transistors

P200-2 Punch performance

The P200-2 2-channel amplifier dispenses 50 watts RMS per channel to your speaker system, or you can bridge it to supply 200 watts RMS to a sub. You can tailor the sound with variable-frequency high- and low-pass filters, or use the onboard EQ to add some high- or low-frequency punch to compensate for your car's acoustics. An optional wired remote control lets you tweak the sound from the front seat for quick adjustments while you're on the road.

Sounds great. I have this under my passenger seat and powering 2 JL coaxial door speakers. The combination is loud and crisp, is anything they are overly powerful. The build quality was very impressive. I've been listening for a month with no problems.

Pros: Very powerful Build quality

Amazin Amp..

Nismo9132 from Rhode Island on 2/18/2010

I installed this along with new Rockford Fosgate Punch P1692 6x9 speakers.. I'm amazed at how much more bass I am getting now that I installed this amp which is not powering any subs, just the two 6x9s.. It sounds like I've got 2 subs in the trunk of my 09 Altima though.. Overall just an amazing combo.. Rockford Fosgate is the best.. there's no comparison.

prefect size for under seat install. Very good power. Good for coax or component speakers. Probably not strong enough for 10"+ sub. Get the refur unit, it's a hundred bucks off.

Mixed feelings on this one

Michael from Connecticut on 8/25/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me start by saying boy oh boy does RF ever under-rate their amps - I went through 3 of these (more later), and EVERY ONE made over 60% more power that it's rated for at 4ohms. That's right, over 80w on a 50w amp. Awesom! What's no so awesome is the "smart protection" circuit that RF employs, which replaces the on-board fuse. I had an issue with the remote turn on lead from my HU that blew 2 of these amps... Now, I can't say for sure that a traditional fuse would have protected me because I don't know exactly what went wrong, but I sure like to think it may have saved me. Fortunately the Cruthfield reps were kind enough to not only take back the blown amps, but lead me to a solution to keep the replacement from blowing up. Sound quality is what has me scratching my head. This is my first amp, so I really can't compare it to anything other than the HU, but I honestly didn't see a big gain in SQ over the 26w head I was running my Polk / Momo components off before... The lows definitely picked up some power, but I feel like they lost a touch of accuracy. As the previous reviewer mentioned, the highs became very bright, too much so on certain songs. I didn't detect a huge change in the mids, which when coupled with the aforementioned changes now seem slightly lifeless. I've played with all the settings on the amp and the HU and I've gotten it to a good point, but it's really not hugely better than it was $200 ago.

Good Entry Level Amp

Jay from WI, USA on 6/29/2008

I used this amp for about a year before submitting this review. It was driven by a high end Alpine HU into a set of very nice co-axial speakers running at full range. I was able to compare this amplifier to an older Alpine amplifier and a reference quality amplifier. All 3 amps have similar power ratings. Rockford's P200-2 amplifier is easily delivering the power that it's rated at and has great headroom. There is a nice, warm sound to the amp at moderate volumes. The warm, smooth bottom end is instantly noticed. However, this amp's main downfall is if you push the amp hard, the amplifier will alter high frequencies to the point of making things sound brittle and harsh. I never pushed the amp to audible clip (distortion) levels, but the change in high frequency tonalities was a big downfall to this amp. Bass response continues to be linear at all volume levels with great control over the drivers I was using. Construction seems to be good, but nothing near the vintage Punch series amps from the late '80's/early 90's. Reliability was excellent, though I don't abuse my gear. Power and speaker connections were good for this price point, though not overly solid. Overall, it's a great amplifier for a great price if you are on a strict budget and don't have a need for pushing the amp hard. If you are searching for high fidelity at higher output levels, move up to a better series of amplifier.

bangin bass 4 budget

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this amp to power the Rockford fosgate PL2-112 Preloaded Subbox and man does this thing hit I have it in a 2004 Acura TL. I got this set up to replace the Infinity Basslink II that I blew becuase I had to max it out to be satified with it. I have this on the factory settings and I am more than happy with the sound. My licene plate rattled at first till I "rigged" it. I used 4 guage speaker wire. I never bothered to review a product I bought untill now!!!

The Perfect Amp!!

Jonathan from Memphis, TN on 10/4/2007

I drive a 2005 Chevy Colorado Crewcab, and, if you've ever been in one of these, you know there is not a great deal of space for a system. The size of this amp is what really drew me in(not to mention the legendary status of the Rockford Fosgate name). I have this amp bridged to 1 channel pushing a Pioneer TS-SW2541 shallow mount 10" in a 0.6 cu ft. box, and it sounds phenomenal. The specs on this site say 200W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohms bridged, but the certificate from RF that came with my amp(all RF amps have this certificate) shows that it put out 273W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohms when bench tested. WOW. I already have my doors covered in Dynamat, but I'm probably going to have to Dynamat the rest of the truck now because of this amp!! This amp is a beast. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone; not just for those with limited space.

Cast Aluminum Heatsink: The cast aluminum heatsink dissipates heat generated by the amplifier's circuitry. The inherent advantage of casting provides a 30% improvement of cooling over conventional extrusion heatsink designs.

Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM): DTM evenly distributes excess heat across entire amplifier heatsink.

MEHSA³ (Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application-Third Generation): MEHSA is a Rockford Fosgate proprietary process that increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET devices to the heatsink. The multi-layer insulated metal MEHSA substrate operates with minimal thermal resistance, spreading heat both downward and outward to quickly dissipate heat from each device across the heatsink. This allows greater power output, enhanced thermal stability, and maximum reliability.

Trans-ANA (TRANSconductance Active Nodal Amplifier): Trans-ANA is a circuit that allows the audio signal to pass through the amplifier at low voltage. The signal is directly level-shifted to the fixed high voltage rails via a pair of drive transistors. Signal linearity is assured by an active node formed by the drive transistors at ultrasonic frequencies. The result is crystal clear sound quality.

NOMAD (NOn-Multiplying Advanced Decision): NOMAD is an intelligent protection circuit that uses an analog computer to make real time decisions regarding temperature, voltage, current and impedance. The unit is protected without limiting sound output unless needed.

TO-247 MOSFET: The Punch 200-2 utilizes ultra high performance MOSFET output devices, giving the amplifier more power handling capability as well as lower thermal impedance for more reliable operation, even under the harshest load conditions.

DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): In the manufacturing process high speed robotics are used to place 1% tolerance parts and large board traces. DSM improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature.

Power and Protection LEDs: The LEDs are located on top of the amplifier. A blue Power LED illuminates when the amplifier is turned on. A red Thermal LED illuminates if the amplifier overheats. The yellow Protect LED illuminates if a short circuit or too low an impedance is detected at the speaker connections. When any of the protection circuits engage, the amp automatically shuts down until the problem is corrected.

Internal Crossover: The amplifier's internal crossover has a 12 dB/octave slope. It's selectable for high-pass, all-pass (full range), or low-pass operation and is variable from 50Hz to 500Hz.

Punch EQ: Punch EQ works in conjunction with the crossover switch. When the crossover is set to low-pass, the Punch EQ acts as a variable bass boost; 0-18 dB at 45 Hz. When the crossover is set to high-pass, the Punch EQ acts as variable treble boost, 0-12 dB at 12 kHz. When the crossover is set to all-pass, both the bass and treble boost circuits are active.

Power Connections: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated captive c-clamp wire connectors and will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. An external 40-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 40-amps, the original should be replaced with a 40-amp fuse. The remote turn-on terminal will accept wire sizes of 12- to 24-gauge. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Differential Input: Differential input circuitry measures the voltage of both the positive (+) and negative (-) portions of the input signal, subtracting the voltage common to both conductors (noise); resulting in a cleaner signal. Reducing the noise on the input then improves the sound quality of the output.

Speaker Connections: The 2-channel nickel-plated clamp wire connectors will accept 8-gauge to 18-gauge wire. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Remote Punch EQ (PEQ) Connection: An RJ-45 jack is provided for connecting an optional remote PEQ control (575ROCKPEQ, sold separately). If you use the remote PEQ, the Punch EQ control on the amp is disabled, and replaced by the remote.

Note: Previous model Punch Bass and Para-Punch remotes will not work with this amp.
