Exploded view

Designed for deeper, louder bass

Rockford Fosgate designed the P3D4-15 15" subwoofer to stay strong even when the bass gets hot. This Punch P3 sub features a rigid anodized aluminum cone that holds its shape through heavy play, while staying light and responsive. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

Heat-sink cone

The aluminum cone acts as a giant heat sink, directing heat away from the copper-clad aluminum voice coils. Special venting keeps the voice coils cool, so you get incredibly consistent bass performance over time. This P3 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out."

The dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 2-ohm impedance to get maximum power output, or for 8-ohm impedance if you're using multiple subs. The P3D4-15 sub works equally well in a sealed or ported enclosure, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 450 and 900 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Beast of a Subwoofer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One beast of a subwoofer. Installed it in the trunk of my hatchback and I have honestly not turned it up all the way because it scares me. I was a little put off at first with the quality of the sound but I kept it because of the sheer quantity. Now that it's had about a week or so to break in though it's really started reproducing sounds te way I feel it should. That and I learned how to tune the amp and reciever to send it the power and frequencies I want it playing hah. I keep my car at a low hum now and turn it up for kicks! Thanks Crutchfield for your incredible support with both my purchase and the install.

Pros: Strong, Punchy, Nice to look at, and a bargain imho.

Cons: I really wish it came with the protective screen. There is a trim peice which is nice, but I'm going to be forced to either build something for it or order the grate sold separately. Not a dealbreaker by any means.

Hits good but doesn't like it for a long time

Pros: Awesome lows, deep bass, very clean.

Cons: Nothing negative to say about this product. So far so good. Got this Sub installed in a 2 cubic feet sealed enclosure.

For those who like to run subs hard

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Once again impressed with RF. Have this in a bombproof 2 cu ft sealed enclosure. It will drop very low yet still snap the tight double kick drums. Quick response balanced with brute power. The P1 15" was great but I have the need to max my jams out beyond reason.

Pros: Flex fit has its benifits in odd mounting areas.

This new P3 15 is definitely putting out the bass I was looking for. Now that I'm thinking of using a different amp, I'm glad it's versatile so that I can change the ohms from 2 to 4. Very satisfied with this purch.

Pros: Dual voice coils to change the ohms. Ported or sealed boxes.

Cons: None

Got two of these in my jeep grand Cherokee and with my amp only half way up is more than enough BOOM. Couldn't have asked for a better set of woofers

Literally blown away!!!

Sam from Paradise Valley, AZ on 4/6/2013

These subs are really amazing! I have two of these p3d4 15's mounted in a ported box and my ears can not handle the bass at full volume for longer then 10 minutes! If anybody needs to be any louder they should just compete in spl competitions lol. I have these powered by a BRZ1200.10 amp in a 1 ohm load and these subs handle the power effortlessly!

Pros: Just an amazing product!

Cons: Cons??....?? No box included Bhahahahahaha!

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P3D4-15 is a 15-inch subwoofer with dual 4Ω voice coils. The sub features a hybrid StampCast basket, quick-release compression terminals, anodized aluminum cone, and Santoprene surround. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Dual 4Ω Voice Coils: The dual 4Ω voice coils offer wiring flexibility; when wired in parallel the woofer presents a 2Ω load, when wired in series the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Compression Terminals: The P3D4-15 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P3D4-15 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a decorative trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the cast aluminum trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. Without the trim ring the mounting height of the woofer is just under an inch, with the trim ring it's approximately 1-1/16 inches. The diameter of the trim ring is approximately 16-3/8 inches.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.58 cubic feet (from 1.5 to 3.0 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.66 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 10" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 32 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 30 Hz).

Great brand [ Elijah  Jul 14, 2017 ]
I want Bass. Give me Bass...Lol. I already have the P3 12's (2) and they hit super hard. I will enclose these in a sealed box and create a deeper bass for my system. [ Jessica Marie  May 29, 2017 ]
I already have a 12" P3D4 and wanted even more bass. I was already impressed with the 12". Let's see what this 15" will do. Who knows, maybe ill end up with both hooked up some day. [ Andrew  Mar 10, 2017 ]

2 questions already asked

After further research I found out that Rockford Fosgate gives you dimensions to build a "idea" box for this Sub. The dimensions they give is 18x21x10 witch is outside dimensions ... using 3/4" MDF would yield 16.5x19.5x8.5 inside dimensions witch would give you 1.58 cubic feet of volume... so Shawn gave the correct answer ... Rockford Fosgate dose take into consideration the volume of their Sub when they say the "IDEA" box size is 1.58 cubic feet...Of course you can build your box to what ever size you want as long as the inside dimension is 1.58 cubic feet and of course the sub. fits in it... [ David  Apr 04, 2017 ]
It would be reduced. I don't have the manual for these in front of me but I do remember that it included volume figures for the speaker so you would be able to construct your enclosure to the correct dimensions. [ Bill  Apr 04, 2017 ]
The dimensions provided from Rockford are taking speaker volume into consideration, Make sure you use 3/4" medium density fiberboard. [ SHAWN  Apr 04, 2017 ]
No. The volume of the box does not include the space of the sub. If you bought it new, the owners manual tells you the displacement size of the sub. Then add that to your blueprints for the build. [ Andrew  Apr 04, 2017 ]
If you are asking about our Scratch and Dent stock then yes. Scratch and Dent items have very minor cosmetic defects that would not affect the operation of the item. Everything still comes with our 60 day guarantee and manufacturers warranty. Hope that helps. [ Kenny  Mar 14, 2016 ]  Staff
