Rockford Fosgate's Punch Stage 3 subwoofers come from a long line of high-performance subs that deliver real deal bass. Now, shallow-mount Punch Stage 3 subwoofers make it easier to get impressive low end in smaller and hard-to-fit vehicles.

The P3SD212 12" shallow subwoofer hangs with its bigger brethren, thanks to advanced materials and engineering. The same Kevlar® fiber that's used in bulletproof vests reinforces the fiber cone, while the ABS plastic/acrylic dustcap helps the cone maintain its shape. A half-roll sealed poly-ether-ester surround provides optimum control, which is important when working in tight quarters.

A low-profile aluminum frame houses the subwoofer, with abundant venting to battle overheating and thermal breakdown. At 3-11/16 inches deep, this sub will fit into places where no bass has gone before — just build a custom enclosure or find a suitable box. The P3SD212 offers dual 2-ohm voice coils for wiring variety with multiple subs or to coax optimum performance from your amplifier.

these are well built subs, however, they are built for a non-sub friendly space, and they work fairly well all considered. i am pushing two of them with a class D mono amp(800watts RMS X1 at 2ohms) in a crew cab ford. if you are looking for a sub that will fit in a tight spot, and give a filling sound to the music then these will be great for you. if you want a loud sub that will let people hear you coming then they are not for you. you may want to look into some other options. i am a little dissapointed in the volume level out of them, and most likely will not purchase them again due to this, but i am accustomed to fairly loud stereos. they are not as loud as a set of MTX 8500 series 10's i had in my previous vehicle being pushed by a profile amp, 480watts RMS X2 at 2ohms.

Excellent Sub

I am very pleased with the performance of this sub. I am driving it with a Kenwood 500W amp and it has excellent deep bass.

Im a little disappointed so far. I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab. I threw in an Eclipse 7" touch-screen DVD/NAV etc. Then I decided I wanted a little boom, but not much. So I got a 1200D amp (just bc they had a good deal on it) and 2 10" Kicker CVTs in a custom made box to fit under the back seats. It was nice, sounded great and with limited space in a box under my backseat, I thought hit pretty good. Problem is, all it did was tease me. So I just put in 2 Rockfard Fosgate 12" P3SD212's, same amp, but added a 320 4-channel amp to help out. Honestly, they hit much harder, but the quality isnt there and Im thinking if I would have just jumped to the 12" Kicker CVT's, I would be much better off. I hear the "break-in" time for these subs takes a while but once broken in, are they gonna sound a lot better?

best shallow mounts around

my buddy's all have kicker cvrs in their jeeps but i have 2 of these in my 01 jeep wrangler and they blow me away with the overall sound quality. the break in period takes awhile but it is well worth the wait. well worth the money if you have a limited amount of space but wanted a nice boom in your trunk

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love it, it sounds great!! I have only one under the rear seat in my Ford F-150 super crew, with a Punch P400-2 pushing it and I'm thinking about getting another 12 to really shake things up.. I'm very pleased with my purchase.. I will be using Crutchfield again in the future!!!!!

Henry from Texas on 11/25/2008

These subs were installed in my 06 quad cab dually under the seat and i tell you they are an awesome set up for tight spaces, and i will always trust rockford!

Excellent Sound

Patrick from San Antonio, TX on 3/8/2008

I put one of these into my 2006 F150 Supercrew, and I am very impressed with its sound. I have it wired to a Rockford P400-2 amp, and the sound is great all across the board, especially the lows! It does need a good break- in period, but once it does, watch out!

Oh My God

Deborah from Crystal River, FL on 12/15/2007

Man... I never would have thought shallow mount subs could sound so clean and loud. My buddy has two P2 12s in a ported box and Im killing him. I have two of these P3 shallow mounts in a ported box 1.0 cubic feet, witha Kenwood KAC-9103d amp 450 watts to each sub and it blows me away, on how good they sound. If you have not alot of room but want regualr sub bass sounds go with Rockford Fosgate P3SD212. Trust me

Enclosure Compatibility

Shallow Mount Design: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P3 Shallow Subwoofer is designed and engineered with a much smaller motor assembly which reduces the overall depth of the woofer allowing it to fit in shallower enclosures and tighter locations of your vehicle.

Removable Magnet Cover: The woofer's PVC textured magnet covered can be removed to allow for even shallower installation applications. The cosmetic semi-flexible PVC magnet cover can be removed when additional mounting clearance is required. With the magnet cover installed, the woofer has the following dimensions:

  • Magnet Diameter: 6.625"
  • Depth as Top: 3.805"
  • Depth as Bottom: 4.08"

Note: The dimensions listed in the Specifications Table are without the magnet cover.

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils that offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 1-ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents a 4-ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 2-ohm load.

Woofer: The cone is constructed of Kevlar Fiber reinforced semi-pressed paper. The combination of these materials provide increased power handling capability, exceptional low bass response and long lasting durability.

Parabolic Cone Geometry Support System: By bonding a ABS/Acrylic parabolic dust cap of equivalent size to the cone body, a balanced geometrical structure is created. This system reduces piston flex and eliminates cone distortion.

High Excursion Tall Profile Surround: A tall profile, high excursion Poly-ether-ester surround allows for maximum linear travel without reducing overall piston size giving you the highest SPL levels possible.

High-Temp Voice Coils: The woofer uses a 2.5", 4-layer, high-temp, aluminum former or voice-coil with spun-lace Nomex reinforcement collars to provide excellent heat dissipation and SPL capabilities unlike many other plastic substitutes.

Linear Spider: A compliant linear spider made from tear and fatigue resistant poly-cotton improves mechanical stability under high excursion, maintaining consistent excursion characteristics. The spider rests in a vented spider cavity to reduce heat build.

Spherically Vented Motor: The spherically vented spider and pole piece efficiently exhaust excessive heat away from the woofer. This excessive heat that is dissipated through the spherically vented motor reduces the operating temperature of the voice coil by over 50-degrees Fahrenheit increasing the life of the woofer.

Basket: The Rockford Punch3 Shallow Woofer features a sturdy die-cast aluminum frame which adds rigidity and eliminates multiple acoustic resonances.

Spring Post Assembly: The woofer features a custom insulated/isolated compression input terminal assembly with attached flexible, 16-gauge stitched tinsel lead wires that can withstand extreme duty cycles, fatigue and high current. The heavy-duty 10-gauge nickel spring posts will accept pin connectors and bare wire.

Decorative Ring: For an added decorative look the woofer comes supplied with a PVC decorative ring that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the PVC ring the woofer is first mounted into place with eight screws and then the ring is set on top the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The decorative ring increases the top-mounting height of the woofer to 0.9375" and the ring diameter is 13.083".

Reverse Mounting: The Rockford Punch Shallow Woofer can be mounted in either direction. The aluminum decorative ring that is supplied with the woofer provides an easy and cosmetically finished look regardless of the mounting direction.

Break-In Period: Due to the design of the Rockford Fosgate P3 Shallow subwoofer, a 24 to 48 hour "break-in" period is required to allow for maximum excursion and low frequency extension. The shallow woofer suspension is intentionally designed to optimize once the internal components are exercised under normal music listening conditions.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Rockford Fosgate range from 0.60 cu/ft to 1.20 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 1.0 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield.

Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 1.25 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. One 4" diameter x 12" long port should be used with the 1.25 cu/ft enclosure.
