High-grade internal components mean high-power output.

Even heat dispersal for longer life

Dynamic Thermal Management

The award-winning "Dynamic Thermal Management" 3-stage cooling system uses forced air to dissipate heat evenly across the amp and out through the heatsink. The internal components in these compact amps stay cooler, resulting in higher efficiency and lower distortion. You get more installation options, without sacrificing wattage or audio quality.

MEHSA cooling process

MEHSA is a Rockford Fosgate proprietary process that increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET devices to the heatsink. This allows the heat to escape more readily from the amplifier, so that the transistors stay cooler.

Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application increases heat transfer away from the transistors

P400-2 Punch performance

The P400-2 2-channel amplifier dispenses 100 watts RMS per channel to your speaker system, or you can bridge it to supply 400 watts RMS to a sub. You can tailor the sound with variable-frequency high- and low-pass filters, or use the onboard EQ to add some high- or low-frequency punch to compensate for your car's acoustics. An optional wired remote control lets you tweak the sound from the front seat for quick adjustments while you're on the road.

Good amp at a reasonable price

mtucker from Escondido, CA. on 11/21/2010

I use the P400-2 to run a 10" shallow mount Pioneer (bridged into 4 Ohms for 400W). I am not sure I would notice the difference in sound from one amplifier to the next (especially just running bass), but the Fosgate does what it is suppose to and works well. I have it mounted under the passenger seat (where it gets warm air blown on it from the heater under the seat) and it has never over heated or cut-out. I like the power connections. Instead of screw connections like some amps, the Fosgate uses rectangular clamps that squeeze the wire. No more crimping on spade connectors. You just stick the stripped wire in there and as you turn the Phillips screw the wires gets clamped in. The PEQ (remote bass level control) is a great accessory for this amp. My sealed 10" is much improved with a boost at 45Hz. The 400-2 has an easy connection for the control. I used two of the four screw holes to mount the amplifier to the floor. I have had the P400-2 for about a year now and it keeps pumping.

You get what you pay for

BW from Anchorage,Ak. on 1/20/2010

I purchased this amp. to push 2 Kicker 12" CVR 4ohm subs. With the subs wired in parallel to 2 ohms and the amp at half power it easily powers them to produce more base than I would ever have imagined. Very loud yet perfectly clear at he same time. Make no mistake, this amp is advertised at 100x2 my build sheet says 244x2 with Fosgate you actually get more than what your paying for. Oh and check out the size, this thing is tiny. Heavy, yet small enough to put almost anywhere. Would recommend this amplifier to anyone.

Factory Refurbished

D.J. from Norfolk, VA on 3/1/2009

I wanted to wait about a month before reviewing so that I could truly give a fair review of this amp, especially since I felt that I was taking a risk buying it refurbished. I bought this amp to replace an old RF 400S that had finally had enough after FIVE years of pounding, and I have to say that so far I'm impressed. I have a JL factory loaded H.O. box which contains two 10w3v2's. It has a single +/- input which presents a 4 ohm load to the amp when bridged and can handle 600 watts RMS. I've been running this set up really hard in order to bring any problems to light. The amp got warm to the touch one day after a very extended cruise session listening to bass heavy songs but it never shut off. Apparantly, RF realizes it has a reputation to uphold with their amps even when refurbished. Unfortunately mine didn't have a birth sheet, not a big deal. Finally, I would suggest getting the remote as well. It can be used to boost treble in HP or bass in LP depending on your purpose for this amp, and it has a blue LED which indicates when the amp is powered up. It's on the bright side at night but will look cool and not as distracting if you mount it low. Don't skimp on the wiring and use RF products wherever you can. I had problems with two Street Wires fuse holders years ago but their wire seems to be alright.

A Great Buy

Bought this to replace a 2001 Rockford Fosgate Punch 400 which I had been using to power one 10" RF Punch HE2. Easy install - just had to replace the old Remote Bass unit and cord with the newer one. I have had this installed for almost a month now and have no complaints. Sounds just as good if not better than the old setup.

Great amp

earl from Erlanger, ky on 8/17/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this amp from crutchfield after buying 2 RF 15's. i was considering an alpine mono amp but when i saw this i looked at the stats and it has a signal to noise ratio of about 105 db at rated RMS power, the alpine had 65 db at rated rms power. this means the RF amp will have cleaner sound and less backround noise. I am running 2 RF 15's in a homemade encloseure with the bass boost at max and the gain at 3 or 4 with a flat sound from the head unit and my subs hit hard and deep. they are rated at 200 rms and are receiving 100 from this amp and it sounds awesome. it fills my car with bass and my car rattles like crazy. Awesome amp, well worth the money.

nice amp

have this amp hooked up to 3 10W0 subs at 4ohms...sounds very good...a little expensive if you ask me though...

Rockford Fosgate Punch P400-2

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this amp to power my Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 components. I was previously using a low-end Sony Xplod amp and @ 50W RMS it didnt have the oomph to push these speakers. It also wasnt very clean.

The Punch 400-2 is exactly what these speakers needed. The mids pound without breaking up and the tweeters are still as out of control as ever (my only gripe about the Kappa components is that the crossover doesnt have another setting for lowering the overall tweeter level rather than having you resort to using EQ to tame them.)

With the other amp, I was constantly fighting with Low and low-mid EQ settings and other options on my head unit to get the sound I wanted.

With the Punch 400-2 Ive got my EQ flat (except for the 5db Im knocking down at 12.5Khz to tame the tweeters) and the mid drivers are utterly perfect. Guitars and kick drums sound alive. I can hear stuff Ive never heard before -- and thats saying something since in one case its a song I recorded. Additionally, the level of detail available in the tweeters is amazing. You can really hear the ROOM the drums are in. That kind of detail is hard to get in the studio - I never dreamed Id have it in my minivan.

Cast Aluminum Heatsink: The cast aluminum heatsink dissipates heat generated by the amplifier's circuitry. The inherent advantage of casting provides a 30% improvement of cooling over conventional extrusion heatsink designs.

Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM): DTM Evenly distributes excess heat across entire amplifier heatsink.

MEHSA³ (Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application-Third Generation): MEHSA is a Rockford Fosgate proprietary process that increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET devices to the heatsink. The multi-layer insulated metal MEHSA substrate operates with minimal thermal resistance, spreading heat both downward and outward to quickly dissipate heat from each device across the heatsink. This allows greater power output, enhanced thermal stability, and maximum reliability.

Trans-ANA (TRANSconductance Active Nodal Amplifier): Trans-ANA is a circuit that allows the audio signal to pass through the amplifier at low voltage. The signal is directly level-shifted to the fixed high voltage rails via a pair of drive transistors. Signal linearity is assured by an active node formed by the drive transistors at ultrasonic frequencies. The result is crystal clear sound quality.

NOMAD (NOn-Multiplying Advanced Decision): NOMAD is an intelligent protection circuit that uses an analog computer to make real time decisions regarding temperature, voltage, current and impedance. The unit is protected without limiting sound output unless needed.

TO-247 MOSFET: The Power T400-2 utilizes ultra high performance MOSFET output devices, giving the amplifier more power handling capability as well as lower thermal impedance for more reliable operation, even under the harshest load conditions.

DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): In the manufacturing process high speed robotics are used to place 1% tolerance parts and large board traces. DSM improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature.

Power and Protection LEDs: The LEDs are located on top of the amplifier. A blue Power LED illuminates when the amplifier is turned on. A red Thermal LED illuminates if the amplifier overheats. The yellow Protect LED illuminates if a short circuit or too low an impedance is detected at the speaker connections. When any of the protection circuits engage, the amp automatically shuts down until the problem is corrected.

Internal Crossover: The amplifier's internal crossover has a 12 dB/octave slope. It's selectable for high-pass, all-pass (full range), or low-pass operation and is variable from 50Hz to 500Hz.

Punch EQ: Punch EQ works along with the crossover switch. When the crossover is set to low-pass, the Punch EQ acts as a variable bass boost; 0-18 dB at 45 Hz. When the crossover is set to high-pass, the Punch EQ acts as variable treble boost, 0-12 dB at 12 kHz. When the crossover is set to all-pass, both the bass and treble boost circuits are active.

Power Connections: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated captive c-clamp wire connectors and will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. An external 80-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 80-amps, the original should be replaced with an 80-amp fuse. The remote turn-on terminal will accept wire sizes of 12- to 24-gauge. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Differential Input: Differential input circuitry measures the voltage of both the positive (+) and negative (-) portions of the input signal, subtracting the voltage common to both conductors (noise); resulting in a cleaner signal. Reducing the noise on the input then improves the sound quality of the output.

Speaker Connections: The 2-channel nickel-plated clamp wire connectors will accept 8-gauge to 18-gauge wire. A Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Remote Punch EQ (PEQ) Connection: An RJ-45 jack is provided for connecting an optional remote PEQ control (575ROCKPEQ, sold separately). If you use the remote PEQ, the Punch EQ control on the amp is disabled, and replaced by the remote. Note: Previous model Punch Bass and Para-Punch remotes will not work with this amp.

RCA Pass-Thru Jacks: The pass-thru jacks provide a convenient source for daisy-chaining an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The pass-thru jacks output a full-range signal.
