Our take on the Rockford Fosgate PPS4-6

Loud and clear
Rockford Fosgate built the PPS4-6 Punch Pro 6-3/4" midrange speaker for people who like their music loud and clear. This highly efficient speaker uses technology developed for arena and stadium systems, so it's able to fill your vehicle with warm midrange detail, regardless of volume. If your system's already strong in the highs and lows, just install a pair of these speakers in your ride and they'll really fill out the sound.

PPS4-6 Punch Pro 6-3/4

Built tough
Each PPS4-6 speaker handles up to 100 watts RMS, while its 4-ohm voice coil shrugs off the high temperatures created by heavy use. A fiber-reinforced paper cone and W-style treated cloth surround keeps the speaker sounding and working great for a long time to come.

Note: This package contains one speaker and one grille. You'll need an external amplifier to drive this speaker properly — an in-dash stereo won't have enough power.

Product Highlights:

  • 6-3/4" midrange speaker with 4-ohm voice coil
  • fiber reinforced paper cone
  • W-style treated cloth surround
  • grille included
  • power range: 25-100 watts RMS (200 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 85-5000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 92.5 dB
  • mounting depth: 2-5/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

What's in the Box:

  • One 6-3/4" Midrange
  • Grille
  • Eight 1" Allen-head self-tapping screws
  • 3mm Allen wrench
  • Installation/Operation manual (English/ French/ Spanish/ German/ Italian)

Fit perfectly to replace my front door speakers and these babies really provide great full range sound. They dont do well with factory radios but seem to come alive with after market radio.

Great Sound Quality

Kevin from Lawrenceburg, IN on 9/22/2017

2015 Toyota Avalon

I bought a new car, 2015 Toyota Avalon and wanted to upgrade the audio with components from my old vehicle. I was very happy with that system. I had been running mids and highs through Fosgate Power Series 6.5/tweeter components. I removed the speakers from the old car and the midrange drivers looked like they had somehow took on some moisture from within the doors. Being very happy with the Power Series tweeters I wanted to keep using them. This series only sells as components so I shopped around. I liked the idea of staying with Fosgate components but being how the Punch Pros are marketed as a high SPL driver nearly scared me away. I listen to mostly Blues/Rock and Jazz and really only interested in sound quality. Unfortunately could not listen to these anywhere near me so I had to base off reviews. This is why I'd like to write one in return as they were helpful in my decision and knowing it can be difficult to actually listen first. In my new current setup these actually sound better with more detail then the Power Series did! I'm using the same Soundsteam amp rated and 75 watts rms per channel to the mids as well as the tweeters. I did decide to bypass the passive xover that came with the Power Series and use the amps xover for the mid range. For low end I'm running 2 JL 10W2's that get roughly 350 watts.. I'm using the factory head unit but implemented the Audio Control line driver. These sound amazing!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I added a set of these in the rear deck of my Mustang and I couldn't be happier; especially at this price point. Awesome mid-bass speaker. These speakers get better and better as I turn up the volume. You'll need an amp to properly drive them. I have mine connected to a 75W RMS Pioneer GM-D9605 amp. Awesome, awesome speaker. Sounds so good, I decided to add a Rockford P3D4-10 sub.

Pros: Great mid-bass

Great upgrade wish I would have done this along time ago, have installed lots of other speakers these are by far my favorite

Pros: Looks bad Easy install just like any other speaker but with superior sound comparing to other more expensive name brand speakers

Cons: None Be mind full of depth for clearance and huge magnet

Super speakers

I have a pair of these pps4 8,s these things are super well worth the money and don't distort.

Pros: Great spealers

Cons: None

Loud, Proud, Clear

John from Elk Grove Village, IL on 5/31/2017

I bought and returned 7 different speakers that were all shallow in depth. These were the best. I produce music just to give you an idea as to how picky I am when it comes to high quality sound. These are loud enough to support two 15" alpine type R subs, so long as you have tweets higher up. I highly recommend soft dome tweeters as they are the only ones that don't have annoying high frequencies.

Awesome Mids!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Mid-range drivers are their own animal. IF you have awesome bass from your 10, 12, 15 inch subs and clear crisp highs from your tweeters, but you still can't get the sound just right, try a pair of mids. These give you the in-between sound no coaxial speaker (or even a component set-up) can. They hit the range between your deep bass and what you need to play the guitar and vocals. Even if your system sounds great as it is, these will add a new dimension, filling in what you didn't even know you were missing. Just be sure you cross them over properly or you'll thing you wasted your money.

Pros: Excellent mid-range, hard hitting, fairly compact for the deep sound - come with grills - essential for lower door or kick panel installations.

Cons: Many vehicles require custom mounts - SUVs accept them nicely.

I was skeptical going from the power series to punch series but IMO the punch pros are better

Pros: Sounds good, relatively small for the power handling, push connects for the speaker wire is a cool feature

Cons: The build quality, although good and secure, looked a little messy. Nit like they'll be seen anyways though

Mid-bass with a punch

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One heck of an upgrade that really brings out that mid-range bass tone.

Pros: Pros- Great power with tight reproduction of mid bass

Cons: Only a bit of fabricating for my Kia Forte to allow tight fit, but that is still not a big deal.

amazing performance speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

prior to purchasing i understood that these needed to be powered by an exteran amp and that a stock or even an aftermarket head unit would not produce enough power to push these. i agree to a point, i have them set up to my stock wiring and they sound amazing! added power would be a plus but in all i would recommend these.

Pros: everthing

Cons: none

Great mid-rang speakers for my rear deck

dnut from Ann Arbor, MI on 6/14/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these for the rear deck in my 2014 Mustang. I didn't like any of the "it fits" options that I had....I wanted something that would pair well with the Alpine PDX-V9 (100W RMS/Channel) amp that I was getting. These sound great through all the power they are getting - even when I isolate the sound to just the rear deck. The fit pretty well - I was able to reuse 2 of the old speaker holes and then drilled only 1 new one.

Pros: - Awesome sound even with a lot of power

Cons: none so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the factory sub in my '02 Landcruiser with this RF model. Crutchfield tech support was extremely helpful in troubleshooting the hook-up. All said it was fairly simple to replace and sounds better than the factory sub although that's not saying much. Unfortunately not alot of options for the Landcruiser without major modifications. Thumbs up to Crutchfield.

Pros: Ease of install

Cons: Not alot of punch........

Exceeds expectations

Alec from Belleville, ks on 10/15/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

High quality speakers that produce high quality sound at a very high volume. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and have subsequently bought the 8" speakers after having listened to the 6.5" for two weeks. These speakers are a midrange monster! It seems the louder you crank them the better they sound. You will need some serious low and high frequency to keep up with these speakers. I'm so happy with the sound they produce I am installing the 8" speakers and the tweeters as well. A great product that will not disappoint. Just be sure to give them lots of wattage.

Pros: Great sound quality and very loud.

Cons: So loud you will have to get a serious sub.

Amazing speakers. Fit perfect and the installer (JC Customs) said it was a easy install due to the adapter and wiring harness from crutchfield. They are super loud without a amp powering them. Once I get the amp installed it should be amazing.

Pros: Loud a heck easy install and price was great

Cons: None these are amazing.

Hands-on research

Product Research

Cone: The PPS4-6's fiber reinforced paper cone is specifically engineered for high SPL (Sound Pressure Level). The W-style surround is treated cloth.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

IDHS T3 (Inductive Damping Heat Sink): The heat sink secures directly to the top of the magnet structure to improve system efficiency by reducing both distortion and back EMF (Electo-magnetic force).

Terminals: The PPS4-6 features spring post terminals that accommodate speaker wire up to 16 gauge.

I have them in the back doors of my Tundra and I think they sound good. I dont know about the Hz and what that is but they work for me,thanks. [ codi  Jul 19, 2017 ]
Before i added tweeters and sub, i ran these full range and was surprised at how high they went. This is billed as a mid but they can function great as a component woofer that have good power handling. I crossed them at 3k with 1 inch silk domes on 125 watts per ch and sounded great. I hope this helps. [ EDWIN  Jul 17, 2017 ]
Although the high end falls off very smoothly, they do need tweeters. I have mine crossed at 2k with some silk dome alpine type r's. [ EDWIN  Mar 12, 2017 ]
Yes! I installed four of these to replace my factory speakers. My front two speakers are together with my factory tweeters.. Hope this help you. [ Patrick  Mar 11, 2017 ]

I'm sorry but I'm unable to answer this question. Maybe you should call tech support. I have for other reasons and they were extremely helpful and informative. [ Richard  Aug 08, 2016 ]
These are not subwoofers they move no air at all they are only for voice no bass. That being said you can mount them to what ever you want in a box or in a door [ BRUCE FOSTER  Jul 19, 2016 ]
No reason they cannot be placed in a sealed box [ GWENDOLYN F  Jul 19, 2016 ]

They are midrange speakers not subwoofers so you will get Good clarity out of them , I found the sound the best in a small box also not just in a door [ claudia  Feb 17, 2016 ]
These are not for bass you get no bass from them these are for strictly voice for clarity no bass they are not subwoofers. They sound great but you are going to need a subwoofer in the trunk or somewhere else for bass [ BRUCE FOSTER  Feb 17, 2016 ]
These will only produce bass. You would need a 2-way, 3-way, or component speaker to get both music and voice. [ 071KRR  Feb 17, 2016 ]
These speakers have excellent midrange quality. You will need tweeters as well. I have a Monte Carlo and a Tahoe. I paired them with the matching tweeters and the sound is very filling. [ Zachary  Feb 17, 2016 ]
Good treble not tons of bass I have a 2006 Silverado and a pair of subs so I just use my subs for bass and those are great for highs and mids I love them they are loud and clear [ Hartley  Feb 17, 2016 ]
Hunter, I'm not a audio guru, so I'll answer your question to the best of my abilities. First off, I've loved Rockford Fosgate products for many years now, I believe they are some of the top of the line products you can install. Unfortunately for myself, I didn't ask any questions about these speakers that I was about to order, so i wondered after installation if I should have gotten the four or eight ohm speakers, and I'm pretty sure now that eight ohm is what I needed but I had already ordered and received the four. The speakers have a really clean and undistorted sound, but I don't have an extra amp installed for them. Unfortunately they are not as loud as the factory speakers but I could be to blame for that. Crutchfield makes their products increasingly easy to install with the wiring and installation plastics that they include in the order. So I recommend Crutchfield and Rockford Fosgate products, but also recommend you do the research to figure out which products will suit your needs the best. Hope this answered your question and also helps you to enjoy the wonderful ride that you purchased. [ John M.  Feb 18, 2016 ]
Unless you have anot amp to push these, you would be better served getting something else. With an amp they are pretty good. They are mid range speakers. [ John  Feb 18, 2016 ]
No bass only voice [ BRUCE FOSTER  Feb 17, 2016 ]
You can check to see if this will fit your vehicle by using our Outfit My Car tool: For additional details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Krissy  Feb 15, 2016 ]  Staff
The only real solution for bass are dedicated subwoofers. [ EDWIN  Mar 12, 2017 ]
... And no this will not give you bass as it is a mid driver 80-3200 Hz. You'll get more of a kick than a boom. There are 6.5 subwoofers on the market if you are looking for 80 hz and below bass. [ Juan  Mar 21, 2015 ]
I would suggest running these with the two channel Rockford PBR300x2. I run them in my set up with a 3Sixty.3 Digital Processor set up and they sound great! I would recommend that you purchase the crossover for that is sold separately. the PBR Rockford amp is a perfect match and compact. The amp itself hides right under the seat with room to spare. [ Juan  Mar 21, 2015 ]
Yes, I just installed these into my stock speaker locations and they fit perfectly. Real easy to install. [ 071KRR  Aug 08, 2014 ]
yes as long as the car or truck does not have a bose your are good. [ Christopher  Aug 06, 2014 ]
You can use these speakers in factory openings, however the magnet is pretty big on back so may want to check the mounting depth available in the location you are installing if that is a factor. Also, keep in mind this is not full-range speaker. It requires a passive or active crossover which are built into many amps. I installed my PunchPros with a Rockford 3Sixty.3 Digital Sound Processor and PBR 300x2 Rockford amp. [ Juan  Aug 05, 2014 ]
