Our take on the Onkyo A-9050

Maybe music is what you're about. After all, it defines your days, comforts you when you're down, and celebrates with you when you're...well, celebrating. And when you come home, the first "on" switch you throw probably belongs to your stereo system. If you love music, it's how you relax. It's how you prepare. It's how you review.

Always the center of attention

Maybe music is what you're about. After all, it defines your days, comforts you when you're down, and celebrates with you when you're...well, celebrating. And when you come home, the first "on" switch you throw probably belongs to your stereo system. If you love music, it's how you relax. It's how you prepare. It's how you review.

If you're lucky, that switch is on the front panel of the Onkyo A-9050 integrated amplifier. With ample connections for your other sound components and a built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC), the A-9050 belongs at the heart of your system, coordinating all your musical sources and empowering them to deliver all their richness and nuance to your speakers.

Distortion destroyer

With the A-9050 integrated amp, Onkyo has declared war on distortion. Their Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) helps to dampen and reduce super-high-frequency distortion, a common issue for today's digital music sources. And Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry boosts current flows and reduces distortion as well. The '9050 boasts gold-plated RCA terminals and speaker posts for maximum signal integrity. And the solid anti-resonant chassis helps isolate audio signals from outside interference.

Your digital sources, polished

The A-9050's blend of power and precision can put fresh sparkle in classic music sources like a turntable with a moving magnet (MM) cartridge. And Onkyo is dead serious about making the most out of your digital sources. A Wolfson® 24-bit/192kHz DAC takes a stream of 1s and 0s entering the unit from the optical or coaxial digital inputs and builds it into beautiful music. Many of the A-9050's competitors need an external DAC to interface with disc players or streaming digital media players like a Sonos Connect® or Apple TV®.

The Onkyo A-9050 integrated amplifier

The Onkyo A-9050 integrated amplifier has the ready power to add life to demanding musical content

Power packed

The A-9050 hosts a rugged, high-output power supply that is rated to deliver a generous 75 watts into 2 channels at 8 ohms. Two 10,000 microfarad capacitors and low-impedance copper bus bars give the amp the instant readiness to deliver peak power for demanding musical elements like fast string attacks, sizzling cymbals, and punchy percussion. When your speakers are driven by an amp that has this kind of dynamic range, you'll discover deeper dimension and soundstaging in your favorite music. It just might be like hearing it for the first time — all over again.

Extremely clear and clean performer, I did not experience any "listening fatigue" nor did I find it sterile as some reviewers have stated. The price, too good to be true. My last integrated amp did everything but catch on fire. It sounds as good as my old Carver receiver and that's saying a lot.

Great sound, great price!

Phillychris from Quincy, Florida on 8/18/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It sounds wonderful just using the supplied speaker outputs, both A and B terminals sound identical as they should. However, I am actually using it mostly as a preamp since I have a Vandersteen subwoofer that requires a filter between the preamp and power amp. I am using a vintage 100 watt per channel NAD amp connected to Vandersteen 1B speakers and a Vandersteen 2w subwoofer. The volume control works fine when utilized this way. I would not have bought this amp if it did not have that feature. I bought this unit as a scratch and dent sale item from Crutchfield. It did indeed have a small dent /scratch on the front panel plastic, but nothing critical and you cannot notice unless you look closely. In addition to the preouts, this integrated amplifier also has a phono input, so no phono preamp needed (Yeah). I am running my single owner (me)1980s Pioneer turntable through it. It works wonderfully, dead silent background during and between songs, no annoying buzz at all. This turntable has a ground wire and the amp of course has a ground connection. I also had a vintage direct drive technics turntable with a ground wire that worked great as well until the motor died. However, another technics turntable I have which does not have a ground wire connection did elicit an annoying buzz at all times, so beware of this possibility. Overall great sound through my system using the vandersteen speakers and subwoofer. Model 2cs are on the way for even more fun!

Pros: Bass boost feature (loudness button) is very nice. Analog balance, treble, and bass controls on face also good feature. Large analog volume knob. Dedicated phono input. Volume adjustable preouts for external amp. Runs dead silent. Auto shutoff feature (easily disabled) Easy to operate, no hidden menus. Has digital inputs (optical and coaxial.) Switch for 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers. Overall soundstage should please almost everybody-some people are never happy unless it has a gazillion watts,

Cons: My only beefs with this amp are the tiny, unreadable input labels on the face and lack of a volume light on the volume knob. I had to use white medical tape with handwritten labels (CD, Tuner, Phono, Tape) below each input light to see what I was doing. Yes, I am over 50 years old but even younger eyes would struggle. Also put white tape on volume knob, otherwise you cannot see what the volume level is especially in a darkened listening room, minor quibbles not enough to deduct any stars.

great buy

Onkyo A-9050

Jazz fan in Georgia from Atlanta area on 5/12/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My system is used for music only. I listen to mostly jazz, classical and sometimes progressive rock (Renaissance, Yes). The core of my system is the Onkyo A-9050 amplifier, which feeds a pair of Klipsch RF600 speakers in the study and a pair of Polk MC80 ceiling speakers in the adjacent workshop. At present my sources are a Grundig Satellite AM/FM/air/shortwave receiver, an elderly Sony CD player and an MP3 player. All of my cables are Audioquest and everything except the Grundig was purchased from Crutchfield I plan to upgrade the CD player and add a turntable eventually. The study is also wired for a powered subwoofer, but that seems un-necessary. I don't consider myself an audiophile, and my hearing isn't keen enough to discern a difference in $500.00 speakers and $20,000.00 speakers. This system is excellent for my purposes and is the envy of the neighborhood.

Pros: Lots of inputs - analog, digital and optical. Outputs for 2 pairs of speakers and a subwoofer. Plenty of power. My listening room is over 500 sqaure feet and I have never turned the volume knob past the 10:00 o'clock position.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

the amp is very good for the price. 75 watt/channel is still low but it still can handle some high watt of Speakers. it have the analog and digital in put, but it sound same to me between them, and I wish if the Volume knop has the light or something that we can see how high/low was the volume is. general in overall, this is a good intergrade Amp.

Good value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was replacing a High End Luxman Amplifier and needed at least 3 input sources plus direct cd, if possible. Due to my increasing age I didn't want to comit to a large expense as I figured I problbly couldn't hear the differences anyway. This unit met all my needs and I am glad I made the change from Luxman to Onkyo. I was somwhat concerned about the reduced power but the Onkyo was able to power the small speakers I have in 4 rooms at the same time, PLUS my Polk SDA's.

Pros: Crutchfield shipped it quickly and when I was haviig trouble using Paypal for another shipment their staff remidied the problem quickly.

Cons: On the front panel the source is marked Line 1 thru Line 4. Woud have prefered the labels to say CD, Tuner, etc. Did I mention the great price?

Very happy with this amplifier. Sounds very clean and balanced. It pushes polk monitor 75t towers and 2 jbl es250 subwoofers with no problems. Plenty of power. Outstanding build quality best amp out there hands down for the money. I'm using the digital opt for my old cd player.and just waiting for the onkyo c 7030.I'm sure it will sound even better.

Pros: Audiophile grade for a good price

Cons: None

Integrated Amp

MikeG from Cape Coral, Fl on 2/17/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent integrated stereo amp. Built in DACs provide excellent sound quality from streamed audio sources. The 75 wpc seems conservative, and is more than enough to drive relatively inefficient floor standing speakers . Well built, heavy faceplate. No nonsensense unit. Excellent value for the price and compares favorably to amps costing 2x more.

Pros: Sound quality, built in DACs, powerful amp.

Cons: Not a big deal but labels on faceplate are hard to read, too small printing. Also remote supplied is Onkyo, but not specific to this unit so most of the functions on the remote are not functional.

HARLEY S. from SUN PRAIRIE, WI on 1/19/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Seems to be built nice, good overall sound-decent mid and HI's, I did return it as I was looking for more full bodied lows at lower to medium volumes, it does get there as you go loud. Been years since I had bought anything so I thought maybe start here, would have kept it if I wasn't looking for something special-specific.

Pros: Good value, pre out jacks = Thanks you

Cons: none really, should offer maybe the same thing with more power

Love it!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Man, it does everything I could ask. Even steaming from my spare PC or iPad the quality of sound is great. There is plenty of power for my needs (jazz and blues) and even adding it as a second output for my TV. And it's as clear as a bell. AWESOME!

Pros: Easy to handle controls and the remote is a nice touch.

Cons: The back is clearly marked but the front panel is difficult to read. That'[s all I've got!

Good amp

Robpar from Roswell, ga on 1/2/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, let me say the Crutchfield team was very helpful. I was debating between this and the yamaha a500. They helped select the onkyo, which I am very pleased with. It arrived very quickly and we'll packaged, no damage to box. The amp is very nice looking and sounds great. I have it paired with polk rti12 speakers which at first I thought this amp would have a hard time driving, but so far so good. It sounds like it's delivering more than 75w but I have not pushed it. This unit replaced and old marantz receiver from the 70's and I am loving it. A couple minor negatives: wish it had led indicator lights for the volume control; wish it had a digital audio out jack. Overall very happy with it.

Pros: Easy set up Good overall sound Good build quality; looks like a lot more expensive gear

Cons: No led volume indicator lights, very hard to see the little dot No digital audio out Wish it had more power but for the money, it's very good

Onkyo A-9050

Dennis Velotta from Staten Island, NY on 11/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit replaced a Cambridge Audio 540AV2 that I had for five years but had been causing some issues. The Onkyo interested me because I had purchased an Onkyo C7030 which replaced a Rotel C972 that I had for around ten years. I thought the build quality of the the CD player was very good and sounded great and with Crutchfields liberal return policy I had noyhing to lose purchasing the amp. What a surprise the A9050 has been. It has made my Thiel CS 1.5's sound like brand new loudspeakers. The top end sparkles, midrange vocals are right there and the bottom end is tight and expressive. It makes my Cambridge 540AV2 sound like there was a curtain over the entire unit. I couldn' t be happier with the A9050. It's a real bargin.

Pros: Plenty of detail, depth, and width. Sparkles with out being fatiguing. Build quality is excellent.

Cons: Power cord could have been a better quality audiophile type cord.

Good value for money

DaveM from Seattle, WA on 11/5/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the A9050 for the digital and phono inputs. The unit looks good and sounds great. I'm using this with my Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers and passive sub-woofer. TV sound out goes in to this as well as my Pioneer Laserdisc player, NAD receiver, CD player, and Technics turntable.

Pros: Plenty of inputs and power for my living room. Sounds good to me.

Cons: Difficult to see the silkscreen label's on the face-plate.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Thank you Crutchfield! My experience from sales (axel) to customer service has been stellar! DEFINITELY a model for all companies out there to emulate. Had this amp for a week, and I've been listening to it everyday after work to wind down and decompress and it meets all my demands. My HK 3475 decided to expire after many years of use. I'm currently powering a pair of Infinity Primus 363's and and old integra DPS 6.5 DVD/SACD as my source transport through the optical input utilizing the wolfson DAC's 192/24 capabilities, Dark side of the moon hasn't sounded this good since my psychedelic college days in 93. I also play wav/flac files from my P.C using Foobar through the front 3.5 jack with a Fiio E7 16/192 bit HP DAC in between and I couldn't believe my ears! The sound is very detailed and crisp, I'm actually thinking of a speaker upgrade to match the brilliance of this unit; gonna need your assistance again Axel. The Infinity's are a bit bright and brittle at high volumes with this amp not a big deal since you can dial up the tone control to achieve either a warm or excited sound, Image is dead center-Norah Jones sounds like she's right in front serenading me. for 400 bucks I can't complain and certainly can't wait to explore its pre-amp abilities but that's later right now this 9050 will provide me with the sonic qualities I need and more. Thank you again Crutchfield and the amazing staff behind.

Pros: design,Dude it has a DAC ....

Cons: I have to upgrade my speakers and source cause this Amp kicks ass!

Great stereo amp

James G from Collingdale, PA on 8/1/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This integrated amp excellently provides great stereo listening. The phono input also is a plus. Driving Klipsch RF 82s through the 9050 is effortless with no need for a sub woofer for regular listening, although a sub connection is available for extra oomph when watching 'action' movies. The bypass for tone controls gives a smooth flat response (reminds me of my old amp). Highly recommended.

Pros: phono input, pure uncolored response

Cons: none

Pros: easy set up, smooth operation and straight forward face plate

Cons: none yet

Onkyo A-9050

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Onkyo 9050 amplifier was just what I was looking for, has plenty of power and the sound is very pristine good highs and nice low with a lot of depth use it with Polk M 30 bookshelf speakers and a Polk entry level powered Sub and a Onkyo 7030 CD player a Pioneer SX980 Receiver which I use just for its tuner an preamp for AM/FM its the best and best of all a Audioengine D1 interface control to Apple CPU which all works GREAT together, Very very Happy with this setup and the help Levi at Cruchfield gave me, am retired and not as sure of myself as I once was, but this is the right system for my needs 5 STAR above all else my ears can tell the differance!

Pros: The Onkyo 9050 remote controls all feeds from my work station which is what I was hopeing for and the overall sound is even better than I had hoped for, its like your there!

Cons: Onkyo does not import the matching tuner into the US had to use my 1979 Pioneer SX980 receiver's tuner for my AM/ FM needs, but to me so far I don't think of it as a negative from a sound stand point because it pulls in a station 100 miles away like your in the

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had to ship the unit back do to loud hum from inside the amp , plus static from my speakers. Crutchfield was great about sending a new one out i should receive it tomorrow , hope not to have the same issues , if i did not experience these problems wit the onkyo A 9050 then i would easily give it 4 stars, my first reactions to the amp were that it is very powerful & highly detailed , the 75 wpc is more than enough to drive my speakers , so i hope things work out with this amp because i really dont feel like shipping another one back to crutchfield...

Pros: great looking amp , very clean and powerful

Cons: points out bad Recordings very easy , sound could be warmer

Very nice amplifier

SW from South Carolina on 3/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this amplifier in my house for about a month now and I'm very very happy with it. I chose this one because it can power my 4 ohm speakers (it does this job very well indeed) and because it has phono inputs for my turntable. The sound is excellent and the power is more than adequate. The "phase matching bass" option actually works without muddying up the sound and I use it often with my 'treble-happy' speakers. This amplifier is also powering an Onkyo C-7030 CD player and they are perfect together. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Pros: excellent sound, option for 4 ohm speakers, built in phono preamp, simple - no unnecessary dials, button, displays

Cons: none

Onkyo A-9050

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Onkyo 9050 is a force to be reckoned with. I have psb 5 bookshelf speakers hooked up along with the 0nkyo 7050 cd player. The quality of the sound is all l will ever need. At 75 watts , there is plenty enough power for 4 speakers. I have yet to get past 10 o'clock on the volume dial. The remote is great and will control the cds as well. I play my computer and droid razor music or sound through this amp. The music is almost cd quality.

Pros: Solid unit, lots of power, built to last. Would not hesitate to deal with Crutchfield again. Great experience. Will use my reward points later for additional Psb 6 bookshelf speakers.

Cons: None at this time.

Luv it

Good price for this good. Of an integrated amplifier. This is my second Onkyo product. I really like the sound that they push through my speakers. It is warm and rich reminds me of listening to live music in the 70s

Pros: The DAC is good and the richness of the sound is exceptional

Cons: None that I can think of.

Chris P. from Detroit, MI on 2/26/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Couldn't be happier with this integrated amp. I am upgrading from a Harman Kardon HK 3390 receiver. I felt like I wasn't getting enough from my Polk Rti8 floorstanding speakers and I didn't want to use a subwoofer. Not to down the HK too badly since I was very happy with that too. The sound from the Onkyo A-9050 is much fuller than I was getting from the HK. I can hear all the little nuances form my CD's that I was normally only able to hear with headphones. Paired with the Onkyo C-7090, I get very clear sound with a nice bass tone and midrange. Acoustic instruments and vocals really shine with this amp. Nice separation of instruments too. I'm using the digital coax input (which the HK didn't have). No matter what kind of music I play, the sound is just great. Simply great! I've listened to metal, rock, classical, jazz, country, etc. You name it, the A-9050 makes it sound pure, clean and full.

Pros: FULL warm sound. Easy setup. Clear sound no matter how loud I play it. Lots of inputs. Remote works with my C-7090.

Cons: Some features can't be used with remote. Nothing that anybody can't live with. Can't select Phase Matching Bass (I leave it on all the time anyway).

k2k from poconos, PA on 2/22/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amp is the "bees knees" of the lower priced, high-end amps. I can't say enough good things about this amp. I'm driving 2 JBL S310 II's and find no need for a subwoofer. This amp pumps plenty of powerful bass to the 10" woofers in the JBL's. Not muddy at all. But clean and tight. All this with the tone defeat on!! Direct by-pass of the tone controls and the sound is well balanced. Lows, mids and highs all blend perfectly with no coloration. It's not as bright as some reports I've read. I find the tone to be warmer and pleasant to the ears with no fatigue. The soundstage is excellent. I was listening to John Mayers CD "Born and Raised" and you can hear every minor squeak of the strings when he slides his fingers on the fret board. Brushes on the snare drum swirled somewhere right of center that I never knew were there. I'm hearing sounds that I've never heard before. The DAC amp is superb. I ran a fiber optic cable from my cable tv set-top box to the digital 3 input and compared it to the 2 channel analog outputs that are also connected to the amp from the set-top box. It sounded like I gained 10 db's of volume. Thus, the amp didn't have to work as hard as it did with the analog inputs. The iPod input of the front panel is truly a joy to have. You just plug the output speaker jack from the iPod (the same jack you use for earbuds or headphones) into the female jack on the amps front panel. Wah -Lah....infinite internet radio. No need for a receiver. Nice job Onkyo!!

Pros: High quality discrete circuitry, iPod front input, plenty of analog and digital inputs, phono input, can handle 2 sets of speakers, phase matching bass delivers true boost without coloring or muddying the sound, built in DAC (lot of integrated amps need an external DAC), To my ears, the A-9050 has to be one of the best amps on the market for this price.

Cons: the remote is pretty cheaply built , you can't switch speakers with it, you can't control the tone defeat switch or bass phase boost switch with it. minor...but still presents a hassle to get up and manually press switches....

Eclectic Listener

MichaelW from Central Coast CA on 1/22/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding integrated amp. Moved up from an older Onkyo receiver (55 wpc). This sounds great through my Polk Rti A3 speakers mounted on wall mounts also purchased through Crutchfield. Really like the Phase Matching Bass at very low volumes, it is like the old loudness button, but sounds better. It is not needed in my opinion at any volume higher than about 9 o'clock position on volume dial. Not advertised in specs is front panel 3.5mm input jack to hook up Ipod or such. Haven't used this feature yet, but I'm sure I will, as my phone has some music I don't have elsewhere. Major (better) difference in sound using optical input from my CD player instead of decent RCA cables to analog input on amp. Also hooked up to TV output, and sounds much more realistic than old receiver

Pros: Lots of inputs...more than advertised. Good solid sound! Nice sounding onboard DAC with multiple inputs. Good solid feel on volume and input selector knobs.

Cons: Faceplate shows fingerprints easily, more easily than other Onkyo gear I own.

Product Research

Integrated Stereo Amplifier: The Onkyo A-9050 features a 2-channel amplifier rated at 75 watts (into 8-ohms, at 1k, with 0.08%, driving 2 channels) or 65 watts (into 4-ohms, at 1k, with 0.08%, driving 2 channels).

WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology): WRAT is based around a low negative-feedback circuit topology that works to reduce signal noise and distortion across the frequency range. A "closed ground-loop circuit" design is employed, in which each circuit has a separate link to the power supply. This helps to cancel individual circuit noise and keep the ground potential free of distortion. High Instantaneous Current Capability (HICC) enables WRAT amplifiers to immediately cancel the speakers' reflex energy and instantaneously send out the next signal. The same high current better manages speaker impedance fluctuations, which can negatively affect performance.

3-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry: Many amplifiers employ a negative feedback (NFB) design that counters distortion by feeding back the opposite phase of the output signal into the input stage. Unfortunately, NFB is easily affected by inverse electromotive forces from the speakers, leading to an increase in circuit noise. Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry is a core Onkyo technology incorporating a low-NFB design that makes the sound more natural. Sensitive to oscillations, this circuitry requires very advanced control technology in order to be incorporated into the amplifier.

Wolfson 24-bit/192kHz DAC: This integrate amplifier is equipped with a 24-bit/192kHz Wolfson DAC (WM8718) to decode and playback high-resolution recordings with less jitter and clearer sound.

DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry): Since the advent of digital audio, signal-to-noise ratios have improved dramatically. However, the S/N ratio reflects static noise only, and takes no account of another type of noise that occurs as the byproduct of sound reproduction; dynamic noise. To reduce this type of noise, Onkyo has developed DIDRC technology. Despite being beyond the normal range of human hearing, frequencies above 100 kHz are susceptible to clock pulse and other forms of distortion from digital devices. Such distortion in the super-high-frequency range can generate "beat interference", which in turn affects the character of the original sound. By improving linearity and reducing distortion in the super-high frequency range, Onkyo's new DIDRC technology effectively reduces perceptible noise and delivers clearer, truer audio.

Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry: Conventional volume-attenuation methods involve initially dropping a signal close to the amplifier's natural noise floor at low volumes. The signal can then become tainted with noise, which subsequently gets amplified along with the signal. Onkyo's Optimum Gain Volume Control Circuitry adjusts the gain so that less than half the typical amount of attenuation is necessary. The signal never comes close to the noise floor, and the result is noticeably clearer sound when compared to conventional amplifier designs.

Phase Matching Bass Technology: From the warm low notes produced by a cello to the deep frequencies of electronic music, a good audio system should be able to deliver plenty of bass response. While many bass enhancement circuitries effectively boost low-frequency sound, they are often prone to the effects of phase shifting, which can overwhelm mid-range frequencies and muddy the sound. Onkyo's Phase-Matching Bass Boost Technology effectively preserves mid-range clarity-allowing vocals and strings to sound great; while maintaining a smooth, powerful bass response at all volume levels.

High Output Transformer: At the heart of this integrated amplifier, you'll find a power supply that can maintain or increase output power as required. Musically, this means that you'll have deep, powerful bass; wide-ranging dynamics; musical peaks that sound composed; and correct timbre and sound staging. The A-9050's high-output power transformer, twin 10,000 μF capacitors, and low-impedance copper bus bars work in concert to enhance the power and fidelity of your audio sources.

Anti-Resonant Chassis: To prevent vibration, a 1.6mm anti-resonant chassis is used to isolate the audio signal from any interference during the amplification process. This rugged chassis is superbly finished with an aluminum front panel and volume control.

Remote Control: The Onkyo A-9050 includes an IR remote control for wireless operation of the integrated amplifier and RI-connected Onkyo components.

A/B Speaker Selector: You can choose to output sound from Speakers A, Speakers B or both Speakers A &B.

Impedance Switch: You can set the impedance of the speakers that you connect to the Onkyo A-9050. You can choose 4Ω (4-7 ohm speakers) or 8Ω (8-16 ohm speakers).

Tone Control: You can independently adjust the Bass (100Hz) and Treble (10kHz) of the Onkyo A-9050 from -14 to +14 dB; as well as adjust the balance of the left and right speakers.

Direct Mode: By bypassing the tone control circuit, the Direct Mode uses the shortest path for enhanced sound quality. Also, since the left/right balance setting doesn't affect the sound quality, the balance can still be adjusted even if the Direct Mode is enabled.

Auto Standby: When the Auto Standby function is activated, the integrated amplifier will automatically enter Standby mode if there is no operation and no audio signal input for 30 minutes.

RI (Remote Interactive) Control: Onkyo's RI system lets you operate multiple RI-compatible Onkyo audio components through a single remote control. On the rear-panel of the A-9050, you'll find a single RI port (3.5mm) to link another Onkyo component (such as a CD player, iPod dock, or tuner), enabling limited control of your setup using the integrated amp's remote.

  • Auto Power On: When you start playback of an Onkyo component connected via RI while the integrated amplifier is in Standby mode, the integrated amp will automatically turn on and select that component as the input source.
  • Direct Change: When playback is started from an Onkyo component connected via RI, the integrated amp automatically selects that component as the input source.
  • Remote Control: You can use the integrated amp's remote control to operate your RI connected Onkyo components by pointing the remote at the integrated amplifier's remote control sensor instead of the component.
  • System Off: When you turn off the integrated amplifier, your RI connected Onkyo components will turn off automatically.

3 Digital Audio Inputs: The A-9050 features 24-bit/96kHz optical (1 toslink) and coaxial (2 RCA) inputs which can carry digital audio signals from source devices (such as computers or laptops) for processing by the onboard Wolfson 24-bit/192 kHz DAC. The integrated amp's digital inputs do not support multichannel audio signal; PCM signal only.

6 Analog Audio Inputs/1 Output: The Onkyo integrated amp offers 6 analog audio inputs; which include 4 gold-plated RCA inputs, 1 gold-plated Phono input (MM), and 1 front-panel 3.5mm input. There is also a stereo RCA line-output for connecting a recording device.

Speaker A/B Terminals: The Onkyo A-9050 is equipped with A & B speaker terminals to connect up to two pair of speakers. The receiver uses gold-plated binding post connectors for the A & B speaker outputs. The binding posts are not 5-way because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs; they will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin connectors, single banana plugs, and dual banana plugs. You can output sound to only Speaker A, only Speaker B, or both A & B Speaker. You can also choose to bi-wire a single of pair of speaker using the integrated amp's A &B speaker terminals. This provides improved bass and treble performance.

Note: If you are connecting only one pair of speakers, you can use speakers with an impedance of 4- to 16-ohm. If you are connecting two pair of speakers, you can use speakers with an impedance of 8- to 16-ohm.

Subwoofer Output: The Onkyo A-9050 features a gold-plated mono-RCA output to connect a powered sub for added bass response.

Preamp Outputs: The A-9050's gold-plated stereo preamp outputs allow you to connect the integrated amplifier to a power amp, so it can be used as a preamplifier.

1/4" Headphone Jack: The A-9050 is fitted with a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack to connect a set of headphones for private listening. While headphones are connected, no sound is output from the integrated amplifier's speaker terminals or preamp outputs.

RI Remote Control Jack: The 1/8" RI remote control jack allows you to connect this receiver to other compatible Onkyo components.

Detachable AC Power Cord: The A-9050 includes a detachable 6' AC power cord.

Hi guys, Hoping you all can help. I am looking to by amp my l/R fronts and power another set of in ceiling speakers in another room with my txnr818. I'm kinda a newbie when it comes to this multi zone, bi amp tech. When I get this, what cables RCA/ Optical or RI and where do I plug it in for the purposes above to my 818.. I'm just looking to keep using my 818 as my source but am looking for more power... Thx in advance! [ Aaron  Jan 13, 2014 ]
Your Bose receiver would basically be sending the AM/FM signal to the Onkyo unit. The Bose receiver would still be doing all of the work RECEIVING the radio signal. The Onkyo will put out what the Bose provides - only much louder and more powerful. If the Bose receiver is picking up a staticky signal then that's what you will hear through the Onkyo. The Onkyo unit is very revealing. So if you give it a poor sounding input then it will clearly and perfectly give you a poor sounding output. If you give the unit a good quality/sounding input then you will hear greatness out of the Onkyo. CD, DVD, Blu-ray sound AMAZINGLY clear through this unit. If you are putting in a questionable sounding input then the Onkyo will reveal ALL of the issues with that input. (I hope that clears things up for the Bose). You should be able to plug the receiver's output RCA cables (red/white) into one of the RCA inputs of the Onkyo. If your Bose doesn't have an output, you can use a y-cable to output through your headphone jack of the Bose. That would be a headphone cord on one end and the RCA red/whites on the other end. The Technics turntable will not need an additional phono preamp. The Onkyo unit has one built in. I have a CD player, Blu-Ray player, computer DAC, cable box, and phono all connected to the Onkyo. EVERYTHING sounds great on this thing. If you are looking for a powerful, quality amp then this one is GREAT for the price. I'd personally like to buy another one and keep in storage in case this one dies on me 10-20 years down the road. It is THAT good. [ CHRISTOPHER  Jan 02, 2014 ]
The Onkyo 9050 has a phono input and does not require an external preamp. If the Bose receiver has a line-level output, you may be able to connect it to the Onkyo amplifier. Note that the Onkyo will only amplify the signal that you supply to it and provide bass and treble adjustment if desired. It will NOT improve the quality of a bad source. If you provide a CD quality input, you will get a CD quality output. [ Walter  Dec 30, 2013 ]
You should be able to connect your tuner without any problems. The onkyo has a very good sound quality. My room is about 16x20 and sounds great in this setting. If your room is bigger, then I think you may want something with more power. It has a turntable built in phone preamp I am enjoying it, wish it had a digital audio out jack and a volume led indicator It's capable of driving my polk rti12's speakers [ Roberto  Dec 30, 2013 ]
I hooked up a satellite radio to it and it works great. Dont know about a turntable... have not seen a record in decades. [ C. T  Dec 30, 2013 ]
