Easy wireless music streaming

Built-in Wi-Fi lets you access the music you have stored on your networked computer so you can easily play tracks from your personal library through the 'RZ810. You can also take advantage of free internet radio and subscription-based music services like Spotify® and Pandora®. Use the Onkyo Remote app to control streaming from your phone or tablet. Bluetooth lets you stream music from a compatible device directly to the receiver, and Apple AirPlay lets you stream music from a compatible Apple device or from any computer with iTunes®.

Geared toward great sound

Outstanding audio performance is an integral part of the 'RZ810's design. A premium 32-bit/384kHz digital-to-analog converter gives you crystal-clear reproduction of music, TV, and movie soundtracks. Dynamic Audio Amplification delivers massive power with low distortion for thrilling movie sound effects. Phase-matching Bass Enhancement lets you enjoy deep, satisfying low frequency effects while vocals and dialogue remain clear. This receiver also decodes high-resolution audio formats. And Onkyo's Music Optimizer improves the sound from compressed audio files and Bluetooth streams, so you get clear, detailed sound no matter how you listen.

Music and video in multiple rooms

The 'RZ810 has outputs for eleven speakers, allowing for flexible speaker configurations (receiver can power a maximum of seven speakers at once). If you're happy with 5.2-channel surround sound in your living room, you can use the receiver's powered Zone 2 outputs for stereo sound outside your home theater. Zone 2 A/B inputs let you connect up to two additional pairs of speakers for stereo sound in different rooms. You can also connect a stereo receiver or amplifier through line-level Zone 2 and Zone 3 connections and use the 'RZ810 as a preamp, for full 7.2-channel surround sound in your home theater plus stereo sound in up to two additonal rooms. Whole House Mode lets you play the same music in all zones, or you can listen to something different in each room.

A Zone 2 HDMI output lets you watch video from two different sources in your living room and a second room. Use the Onkyo Remote app to control playback in different zones from anywhere in the house.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After 10 1/2 years my Onkyo TX-SR 805 had to be retired from much faithful service. It was an easy choice to replace it with the TX-RZ 810. She's been up and running for a week now and I'm more than satisfied ! Actually, I'm tickeled with it. As a matter of fact, in the 11 plus years I've been a customer of Crutchfield, I've never had a product that I wasn't pleased with. Love the fact that their tech support team is always there to call upon should I need them. They have a super team from their adviser staff to their tech support folks. I couldn't be more pleased. Works Great With Seperate Amplifiers

Audio File from USA on 3/25/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Since the RZ810 has pre-amp out RCA jacks in the back, I'm using this as a surround sound processor only, connected to about $10,000 worth of separate amplifiers, and it works great! My older surround preamp was working but obsolete (no HDMI inputs) and pricing on a new surround preamp/processors is absurd, so I'm using the RZ810 as a preamp/processor and it works perfectly! Sound quality is great, functionality is great, and the RZ810 is nicely built. It has a torroidal transformer inside and fairly decent aluminum heat sinks (see attached photo). I was hesitant using a receiver as a "preamp" in my high end system, but it works perfectly.

Pros: Preamp out RCA jacks for using separate amplifiers. Well made (torroidal transformer, good heat sinks). WiFi enabled. Supports all latest surround formats, and is WiFi enabled to update firmware. Switches automatically to different sources (4K bluray, 4K television).

    Cons: None observed so far!

    Life with the TX-RZ810

Lewis from Douglasville, GA on 3/25/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me start by saying the 3 star review has nothing to do with the sound of the receiver. I'll echo what many other reviewers have said " GREAT SOUND GOOD POWER". My issues with this product are build quality and whomever is responsible for firmware. Day one with the TX-RZ810 was frustrating. Everything went fine until the firmware updated. After the update the TX-RZ810 would only produce sound in STEREO. I called Crutchfield and went through the normal in's and outs of rebooting to no avail. The crutchfield person promised to call back the following day after they had spoken to an Onkyo rep. The promise was kept and another firmware update fixed the STEREO only issue. I now have a blue-tooth issue, no sound via blue-tooth. I found a work around. Start your app and begin playing sound from said app before pairing to the TX-RZ810. Not a deal breaker but really annoying. Last but not least I now have an HDMI issue. HDMI #3 causes all other hdmi to constantly blink on and off when it is in use. It doesn't matter what I have hooked up to hdmi #3 when it's on and i switch to another input the input i switched to will constantly blink on and off until i turn off hdmi #3. I have had the TX-RZ810 for 63 days and for the most part have enjoyed the product, but i have to ask myself what will the next 63 days be like with the TX-RZ810 ?

Pros: Great sound. Good power. ATMOS!!

Cons: Poor build quality and firmware.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is awesome, from setup to the application I have been impressed with the ease of use and power this unit puts out. I am running a 5.1 setup with Bi Amp turned on for my and it pushes my Klipsch set with no issues whatsoever. I am having some trouble with the bluetooth pairing, but I believe that's more user error than anything.

Great value for the money. I have had Onkyo receivers for the past several years. Can't beat the features and the wattage for the price, and works really well for the mid-range consumer. I do recommend buy good high performance cables to connect your equipment, you'll see and hear the difference.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good amp for a good price. I replaced a 4.5 yr old broken Yamaha, and the great sound is on par. About a month in, and only a couple of minor complaints: The remote: why is this not a multi-brand remote? I guess the Yamaha multi-brand remote spoiled me (and I still use it for non-volume tasks). At this level of receiver, I expect a multi-brand remote. 2nd HDMI out: This is for zone 2 only; I wish there was a setting for this to mirror zone1, as this is how I use it. I use zone 2 for outside speakers, so when I watch the bedroom TV (2nd HDMI), I have to make sure the outside speakers are muted.

    Pros: Great sound and features

    Cons: no multi-brand remote

    Great All Around Receiver

Nishith from Plainsboro, NJ on 3/4/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very well built quality receiver with enough HDMI ports for all your devices. The 4K upscaling is very well balanced and in my opinion, superior to the Yamaha upscaling. Remote is compact and intuitive with clearly labeled device selections. Reason I have not given it a full five stars is that volume has to be increased on the higher side compared to my older Yamaha receiver and the music and sound fields were not displayed on remote but require multiple presses to cycle thru the various modes.

    Pros: 4K quality upscaling

Cons: Sound volume has to on higher level

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the TX-RZ810 as a replacement for my Integra DTR-70-1 receiver, because the Integra was not 4K capable. So far the Onkyo unit has met all my expectations, and as usual Crutchfield was a great supplier (very good price, quick and reliable delivery). I had the occasion to call them about the "pass through" capability and they answered my question quickly and I am able to use that feature as I expected. My only criticism of the DT-RZ810 is documentation. I have a 5+1 system with all Klipsch speakers including a powered Sub. I would have liked a more complete explanation of the Music and Movie modes in the documentation. I was able to find that online.

    Cons:

    Outstanding Sound Quality!

Hayden from Grand Blanc, MI on 3/3/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My old and beloved Onkyo TX-SV717PRO AVR sailed into the sunset :( I was searching for an replacement/upgrade receiver. I tried a very well reviewed Stereo Only receiver that has built-in bass management for my 2.1 setup. I had high hopes but when the unit arrived, it was a huge let down for me. The highs were grainy/coarse. The midrange was as dull as flat pop. The stereo image sounded almost mono. Yes, I checked for wiring/setup issues. I really wanted to like/love that receiver but it went back at my cost for the shipping. To make a long story short, I tried a couple more AVR units in order to get the built-in bass management as I was reading more reviews and doing more research on the internet. I liked everything that I read about the Onkyo TX-RZ810, particularly for the sound quality. Since I'm only using it as a Stereo Receiver, sound quality was my highest priority. I'm very glad to say that the sound quality is first class, top notch...superb! The sturdy build is also top quality and is accented with a beautiful aluminum front panel and volume control. My mission is fully accomplished. Thanks to Crutchfield and their excellent service, my music setup sounds better than ever :) The TX-RZ810 and Crutchfield are both highly recommended.

Pros: Beautiful and Highly Musical Sound Quality. Aluminum Front Panel and Volume Control further accentuate the excellent build quality.

Cons: I would much prefer to have separate Bass & Treble controls for quick adjustments to tweak the sound variations from song to song. Where is the Balance control?

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded from an older Denon receiver that still works great! I wanted Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and atoms so that's why I purchased this. This receiver is great! Bluetooth works every time along with the Wi-Fi. It was easy to set up. The menus are easy to navigate through for the fine tuning. The sound is incredible if have it connected with celing atoms speakers and it sounds like planes are actually flying over your head. I would definitely buy this again especially for the price I got for it on sale.

    Pros: Everything

    Cons: Haven't found anything yet!

Needed an upgrade from my Yamaha V 665 which is about eight years old does not support 4K. The Onkyo was a great choice offered all the features i was looking for. Set up was easy, very user friendly as well unlike my Yamaha. Sounds great with my Klipsch RP speakers.

Pros: Easy to use, good price for what you get

    Cons: Non yet

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very pleased with the sound quality matched with Polk RTI A's and an SVS PB-2000. Almost sent it back due to a moronic design flaw not allowing you to choose what is displayed on the receiver. And the front door of the unit doesn't stay closed. If you don't care about display features or build quality then it's awesome. Crutchfield did offer to send a Yamaha, which I've always had, but I didn't bother seeing the deal was too good on this model to pass. I'll never purchase Onkyo again but that's just my own preference. What I think gets me going so much about the display is that in most advertisements you see for this receiver, it shows the 810 with DTS:X on the display. They must have quickly hit the button and taken the picture while it was there. So if they went through the effort to do so, you'd think they would find it worth while to make it possible in the design.

    Pros: Sound Quality

Cons: Magnet doesn't hold door shut on front. No option to display decoder type on unit. To see what is being decoded you have to hit the tiny i button on the cheezy remote and it displays for a couple seconds then goes back to displaying source. Maybe it's just me but I have never seen a receiver that doesn't display Dolby Digital or whatever decoder you're using on the front panel by default.

Brian M. from N Brunswick, NJ on 2/14/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit replaces a 20+ year old Kenwood KRX1000 THX ultra which I hated to part with, but it had no modern inputs and was really obsolete for a while now. This is the second Onkyo I bought from Crutchfield in the last 12 months. I have been delighted with the sound quality for both home theater and music listening. The phono input is good but I was disappointed to learn there was no tape circuit. Thankfully Crutchfield's excellent technical service team did a great job of finding a work around for me on this. I'm driving a pair of Boston Acoustics VR975s with a Mirage center channel and a pair of Infinity bookshelf speakers for rear surround in a Dolby 5.2 setup. I dislike the dimunitive input selector buttons on the front panel. It's nearly impossible to read the markings on them so choosing your input is a trial and error exercise. The remote is OK at best. The documentation is adequate for setup but I found it lacking in detail about operation. More detail is available online, however there is no way to get a PDF to print out. Unfortunately, the lack of documentation seems to be a trend with many consumer electronic items these days. Onkyo, if you are reading this, please produce better documentation - at least give us a downloadable manual to print. The unit operates surprisingly cool.

Pros: What I like: Plenty of power, vast sound improvement, good tuner sensitivity, bluetooth.

Cons: What's missing: a dedicated tape circuit. What needs improvement: input selection controls, user manuals/documentation

    It's a Buy . Great investment.

Great receiver, easy to use interface. Beefy chassis with good power. I'm currently pairing this with a set of Kef Q 700 towers. Mostly use this for watching TV. Very clear audio, can really hear the wide range of sound with great imaging even from 2 speakers. It might be the Kef also, well balanced sound not too bright clear mids and tight bass.

Pros: Power, looks, clarity, easy to setup.

Cons: Display from the 90s, some stainless trim could help.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced an 8-10 year old Onkyo receiver because someone spilled something on/in it and decided to upgrade my Blu-Ray at the same time since I would be moving furniture and speakers to swap the receiver. I was surprised that picture and sound both improved. I applied labels to new Crutchfield premium cables before connecting connect a new Oppo 203 Blu-Ray player and Onkyo TX-RZ810 receiver to my 60" Samsung Plasma and Selah Audio speakers, each about 10 years old. Colors are noticeably brighter with Blu-Ray player and Cable TV, separation between main and surround channels is sharper and bass is tighter. The calibration setup took about 10 minutes for equalization, and channel to channel volume, with the microphone that came with the receiver.

Pros: Excellent sound and picture with easy setup

Got this AVR a week ago. Upgraded to this model because it transfers the digital HDMI inputs to zone 2/3. (Unfortunately only HDMI 1-3 ... have to read the small print to find that out.) Using an outboard Marantz with Klipsch Pro Cinema speakers. Overall a very good unit. Plenty power and more than sufficient inputs/outputs and setup flexibility. But ... had problems with HDMI Standby Throughput (went on/off/on/off), optical inputs (no sound) and analog inputs (needed almost max volume to get any sound). However, still was fairly pleased. Spend 5 days with tech support trying to resolve the issues. We finally decided to do an exchange. BIG COMPLIMENTS to tech support. AWESOME! Rating is 3 stars since my unit has "problems," and 5 stars for tech support - therefore left 4 stars. So; awaiting a "new" one. Will leave more feedback once I get it installed. Cheers.

Pros: Good unit, easy setup with good flexibility. HDMI 1-3 transfers to zones.

Cons: Had some problems with my unit. Exchanging - hope the next one is 100%

    WORTH IT.

NOT AN EASY SET UP. DOES NOT USE PAIRED BANANA PLUGS, HAD TO CHANGE TO SINGLE ONES. NEEDS EXTENDER FOR WIRELESS NETWORK. ZONE TWO HARD TO SET UP, CAN NOT DO FROM REMOTE OR UNIT ALONE MUST USE BOTH. INFO NOT IN MANUAL. GOT IT DONE WITH HELP FROM TECH AND ONKYO. ONKYO SAID IT IS NOT ALL IN MANUAL. BUT IT WORKED OUT. GOOD PICTURE, GOOD SOUND. WORKS VERY GOOD WITH OLDER SPEAKERS. TRIED IT WITH JBL 100 AND EMPIRE 8000P. JUST TO BE ABLE TO USE IT WITH MY 8000P S WAS WORTH IT.

Pros: GOOD PICTURE, SOUND, INTERNET RADIO, AND WIRELESS NETWORK

But because of the fear that a firmware update may cause some problems , I have chosen to stay with the current Firmware version on the txrz810. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver replaced an old Onkyo TX-SR 805 from 2007 and it fits my requirements to a tee. I was in the market for a reasonably-priced receiver with pre-out connections (I have a separate power amp and preamplifier) that feature the latest video decoding (Dolby Atmos and DTS:X) for use mainly as a video processor. Since I'm familiar with the Onkyo brand, I looked at their products first. For the price and for my needs, this was a total no-brainer! I compared the feature set of the TX-RZ810 against other receivers and dedicated pre/pros costing thousands more and came away convinced that this was my best option. The video decoding is very good and the sound is immersive. Another bonus is multi-room capability and Wi-Fi connectivity that enables music and video streaming. Music streaming on the TX-RZ810 is good (the DACs are decent), but I don't use it much since I have a separate music streamer that's connected to my outboard preamp.

Pros: Great feature set with latest video decoding formats available. Great sounding. Good industrial build quality (has the look of a receiver worth several thousands).

Cons: Nothing I can think of.

I've only had this for a week but have already noticed some issues when using the HDMI bypass. The solution is to leave the receiver on all the time but if the idea is you are supposed to be able to save energy when not needing the receiver and all the speakers, this seems odd. Other than this issue, the product seems of good quality and is feature loaded for a device at this price point. If you are in the market for a 4K receiver, this should be on your short list.

Purchased to have FlareConnect for multi room wireless setup. Firmware updated and unit sends Wi-Fi to Onkyo NCP-302 wireless speakers and now streams all sources connected to the receiver over Wi-Fi to wireless speakers. Unit replaces an Onkyo TX-NR 525. Overall very satisfied with the unit. Unit networks well, allowing playback of audio files stored on PC when files are linked to Windows Media Player library.

Pros: Lots of features. Easy setup. Lots of DSP listening modes for every setup. Expanded multi room functions. Multi room and Wi-Fi can be operated via Android or I phone app. Volume of inputs is adjustable to allow them to be balanced when switching sources.

Cons: Volume control needs to be turned to about 50% before normal listening levels are reached unlike all the other receivers I own. Remote control only controls unit. Controller App can be difficult to use.

It handles the 4k passthrough well(which is why I had to upgrade in the 1st place,) haven't used the radio?streaming yet but once i find the time to program it I am assuming it will work beautifully, for me it is primarily to give my tv AWESOME sound and it delivers, it even saved me having to upgrade my subwoofer as this receiver magically has my old one sound much more powerful/

The product is second to none if you are looking in the range of $1000-1499 amp systems. More than enough inputs for any stereo enthusiast. Also, what can you say about Crutchfield, simply the best, from the buying experience, to delivery to follow-up after your purchase. First time purchaser from Canada and am extremely happy with price, product and service. I rated 4 stars just because I wanted to see more power, although I am pretty impressed with the sound. Its crisp, clear and loud. I would give a rating of 4.5 stars if it was an option. 5 stars to Crutchfield and their incredible, knowledgeable team.

Pros: slick sharp looking design a ton of inputs easy setup simplified remote blue tooth feature is awesome

Cons: Unit gets pretty hot especially if you are testing out your speakers to their full potential. Make sure not to put any component on top of it and keep it in a shelve that has good air circulation. Could have a bit more power, but I like things extremely loud.

I am completely pleased with this AV receiver, and I purchased it at a great price thanks to Crutchfield. I bought this to replace an old Yamaha 5.1 unit and to enable a nine channel configuration. I realize much of the improved sound quality is due to the additional speakers I now have, but there is also a dramatic improvement in the balance and precision of the sound that I attribute solely to the Onkyo. I'm set up as "5.2.2" with Top Middle Height ceiling speakers and dual SW's. I use the 5.1.2 channel playback setting for Dolby ATMOS and the sound field is just incredible -- I primarily use this for home theater, but Chromecasting Spotify Classical music using the "Orchestra" listening mode is simply mesmerizing. It's in an open floorplan Great Room/Kitchen room approximately 20' by 25' and I have more power than I need. And all my various video sources look great, although I now need to upgrade my TV !

Pros: Excellent sound quality, great quantity and variety of i/o connectivity, ease of set-up and user-friendly/intuitive configuration menus, clean/clear/ample power, looks great. Enough sound configuration flexibility and capability to keep you busy experimenting and tweaking for months if you are so inclined.

Cons: Controller app is pretty much the opposite: clunky, not user-friendly or intuitive - I had difficulty getting Chromecast to work. I also wish the display on the front of the unit was more modern and not so "dot-matrix-ish".

Unless you need the latest and greatest features, I recommend this unit without reservation. Crutchfiled delivers excellent value for the price on this model. Setup was very simple and the sound quality has finally allowed my speakers to perform at their true potential. We really like the feature that allows us to play streamed music while watching TV. However, I don't think there is a way to turn off the little display that shows the track name and artist so it sometimes interferes with what is on the TV. You can move the display around the 4 corners of the screen but cannot toggle it off altogether.

WOW! Is all I can say. I went from the Pioneer VSX-1130 to this unit and immediately (after room calibration etc) noticed a MASSIVE difference in depth and clarity to the audio. I just knew it would be a very nominal change but WOW! was I wrong. The highs are cleaner less brassy, the lows are much less poppy and have more thunder to them and the mids have depth like no other! Voices now sound well rounded and 3-D. I watched movies before and now I felt like I was immersed for the first time. The VSX-1130 Pioneers 7.2ch Dolby Atmos receiver that they claim to be incredible with its amplifiers and processing but it doesnt hold a candle to this performance. The picture also immediately allowed me to connect to 4.2.2 color scheme with 4K HDR. ( the VSX-1130 didnt allow this) so the picture got immensely better. I used the THX calibration app for the TV to get the picture in line where it needs to be and now i just sit back in awe.. HUGE SOUND, PERFECT PICTURE.. who could ask for better? My speaker setup is an RBH Ultra 3 Passive LCR speaker with 4 boston acoustics soundware speakers ceiling mounted. (I had W.A.F. involved in this decision) and for a sub I have the R-115SW from Klipsch. FANFRICKENTASTIC! :-) Buy it while its CHEAP!

Pros: Huge depth and clarity with lows mids and highs Updated with all of the latest codec Dolby vision, dtsx and atmos ready to go. The configuration screen is nice and tidy unlike the DOS looking version from Pioneer

Cons: Shes a biggun' make sure you measure your space to make sure it clears with height.

Upgraded from a ~70wpc Yamaha, and the difference is night and day in regards to how the receiver handles dynamics. Finally getting more out of the ELACs. Moderate levels of customization, maybe less so than a Denon X2200. Trade that for super simple setup. Just works, and has lots of room for expansion later on. Great price, great looking, easy initial setup to get it running, main on 5.1, zone 2A and 2B working flawlessly to two separate rooms, Blu Ray player, Netflix, network connectivity for streaming music, as well as a turntable. Everything just works perfectly...finally. Speaker calibration was spot on, sound great. For this price, for a receiver introduced in late 2016 at well over $1,000, you can't beat it. Good interface, lots of inputs/outputs, great pulse-pounding sound, but it may require volume levels of at least 40-50 (out of 100) to start getting loud. I watched the Force Awakens blu-ray and hooked up my old Onkyo HTX9100 speakers for 7.1 sound. The sight and sound/bass was quite immersive. Setup was straightforward and the user interface is pretty easy. The walls literally shook. My speakers are rated 1200 watts, and I feel this shakes them more than the old Onkyo reciever did.

Pros: Lots of clear sound and power. Tons of inputs and outputs. Good user interface, simple remote. Nice 3 year warranty for peace of mind.

Cons: None really so far. My previous Onkyo reciever (with the ht-s9100thx theatre) had its remote and left front channel go bad after about 8 years. Hopefully this one lasts at least that long. The only other negative was my old speaker inputs were too narrow to directly plug in, but going down to direct cable/wire method worked fine.

I bought to replace a Denon that was about 7 years old. The Denon was on its third remote and programming radio stations was impossible. The Denon had great sound, but so does the Onkyo. The Onkyo was much easier to set up and has many more options like the ability to use Spotify and Tune In and it has WIFI. A great bargain at the price Crutchfield is selling it for. My only complaint is that the Tune In option picked up local radio stations but when I selected them it said it was unable to connect. This has not changed.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a bit disappointed when I first connected the system, but I did it quickly and didn't run the self calibration. A couple of days later I ran self calibration. What a difference! Night an day. The only thing that is disappointing is not having a thorough manual in the box. The home theatre amp is capable of so much more than the included quick guide tells.

Pros: Plenty of power to fill a room.

Cons: The included manual is a quick guide only and doesn't touch much of what the box has to offer.

    TX-RZ810 was a good choice.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered and received the Onkyo TX-RZ810 in the two shipping days indicated by Crutchfield. I also ordered Klipsch Reference Premiere 160M 5.1 system along with Klipsch Dolby Atmos RP-140SA speakers. It took time to get the receiver and speakers cabled, along with the audio EQ. It has taken a few more days to learn the small details of the Onkyo, as the manual does not cover everything - adjustment of the settings for better control of speaker crossover, TV control connections, etc. All were minor, but details make a difference. Before and after I had all the adjustments made, the total system was great. As noted by other reviewers, you cannot run the output of the back surround to speakers, along with the height (i.e., Dolby Atmos) without a separate amp on the back surround speakers. I am not using back surround at the time, but this may be different in the future. An "appropriate" volume was reached with setting of 70-75 for the Onkyo. (Appropriate as it is the level at which my wife complaints it is too loud. I still have yet to go beyond 75). I have the Onkyo set for THX, which always gives a surround sound experience. For 4K, I have a LG OLED65B6P with a Samsung play (I forget the model). For the Samsung, I set the audio out to bitstream and leave the Onkyo to accomplish the decoding accordingly, which is does quite nicely. If the back surround speakers could be driven directly, I would give the Onkyo 5 stars. Only 10 Mbps Internet so no 4K comment for the unit

Pros: Good power at a reasonable price

    Cons: Refer to review

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very impressed w/Crutchfield from start to finish w/ the purchase. Mick was both knowledgeable and insightful on features and functions of product, as well as application I was needing the unit for. As for unit it'self, it's a bonecrusher. I've been in the home audio game for about 20 years [ even worked for{ Myer Emco } in the past. I'm not a big fan or feel somehow less than because I don't have the latest available techno fad. This unit does plenty. Picture quality is beyond good enough and sound is righteous. I'm running an entire Klipsch reference premiere system off this unit, while they aren't a particularity hard speaker to drive, they do like a lot of current. Again, this unit delivers in spades! Even w/ all this aside for the price, that's gotta be the deal of 2017/18.

    Pros: Read review

Cons: Not really, some may take issue. Measure A/V rack. This thing is a monster.

After upgrading to a Sony 75XBR900E 4K television, I was looking for a 4K compatible A/V receiver. I wanted something with decent power as well as an appropriate amount of inputs/outputs, decoding options, features, etc. I decided on this model after speaking with Crutchfield support and determining that it was the best bang for the buck in receivers that met my requirements. Setup and menu navigation is very easy. I've paired this receiver with Polk LSiM705 towers, a Polk LSiM 704c center channel, and small Polk bookshelves for surrounds. The 705s are bi-amped with the receiver powering the lows and an Onkyo M-5010 two-channel amplifier powering the mids/highs. Also, I'm passing 4K content through the receiver from an Xbox One X. The Xbox One X confirms that all 4K resolutions and HDR formats are successfully passed through the receiver to the television. Overall, I'm very pleased and highly recommend the TX-RZ810.

Pros: Adequate power Atmos, DTS, etc decoding Lots of inputs/outputs with pre-outs for all channels User-friendly menus and interface

Cons: Excellent 7.2 channel amplifier; but look elsewhere for 9.2 or 11.2

    Bluetooth Does Not Work

    Brandon from NC on 12/15/2017

Bluetooth Issues Sucks! Says now pairing, then it connects to the device, the device starts playing the music, but no sound comes out of receiver. Ever. I've done a factory reset. That worked for a few minutes but then when I go to connect another Bluetooth device it won't play the music. I've only had it for 2 days and I've already had to factory reset it. I've tried new Marantz 5012, Denon 3400H, Yamaha rxa2070, and this TX-RZ810 is the only one to have any issues with any of my devices. UPDATE: Not sure why the ONKYO would not work with bluetooth, but just to be clear here...... I disconnected the ONKYO and placed it back in the box to be returned, and I hooked up the YAMAHA RX-A2070 again and the bluetooth connected to my LG V20 as soon as I turned it on. I played Amazon Music flawlessly. No clue why it doesn't work on the ONKYO..... Maybe a firmware update will fix it.

    RZ 810 vs SR 805

MICHAEL from Brevard, NC on 12/13/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was skeptical the this rcvr would sound as good as my SR 805 but was surprised once I did some tweaking! Build quality has diminished & the remote pales vs the 805. Can use the 805 remote with the 810 which is a plus, it is backlighted & you can dim the display with this remote and much more vs the new remote. ARC is great & eliminates several cables. Does not get nearly as HOT as the 805 a big plus. Sound quality very close but the 810 has a bit more clarity & definition in the sound. Left the video processing off as the Sony XBR-900e should do a better job. Have yet to set up the wifi & sound calibration. The little buttons on the front of the rcvr is a minus need a magnifying glass to read but with OSD will be seldom used. Great value for the price!

Pros: Quality sound, runs cooler than 805.

Cons: Remote is lacking with features & not back lighted. 805 remote does work with the 810!

This is a great receiver. The RZ series is such a step up. I love the Onkyo sound. It is full and rich with wonderful top end clarity. Some people had issues with the accueq in the past. It would only eq the fronts. Now, it does all speakers. This newer version also allows you tweak the sound to your own taste. I bought the 810 for the added power and man does it have power to spare.

My second Onkyo purchased from Crutchfield within the past three years. Replaced a Pioneer Elite (mid level). Easy to set up (unlike other Onkyo AV receivers). Booming bass, clean, clear power. Well worth the investment for the price. Running all seven Polk speakers (RTi7s floor standing) and dual Velodyne, front-firing 10 inch subs). Drives them all with relative ease.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great receiver so far, I'm replacing another vendor product (which is not that old but was lacking HDMI 2.2), and so far I pleased to report that the Onkyo Receiver provides a more appealing tonal quality to my music selections than my prior system. The dynamic range of power is pleasing and the systems on screen interface is straight forward. The support for features such as DNLA, HDMI 2.2, as well as other NET interfaces makes this a complete Home Theater Receiver. Pro's: Lots of dynamic power, clean design, appealing tonal qualities without coloration. Con's: Not a big deal, however, I needed to speak with Onkyo Tech Support in order to address an HDMI issue (they were great), I had to disable deep color support on the HDMI in order for it to work properly with my cable TV vendor. The remote is a bit small, and volume control placement is not optimal, but not a show stopper. I purchased this receiver from Crutchfield while it was on special sale, and the dollar value for this unit is unrivaled.

Plenty of power to drive my 7.1 setup - (Polk 265 RTs for the left and right fronts and 65 RTs all around). Previously had an Onkyo TX-NR414 (only 5.1) and the difference in power output is quite noticeable. I am using this in conjunction with a Sony HW45ES projector and have not noticed any significant delay in processing or audio/video sync so I'm thrilled with that. The auto calibration program (with included mic) was extremely user friendly and a breeze to set up. Unit is a decent size so be sure to check your measurements for your intended install location. Thanks Crutchfield! -Matt

Pros: Lots of power No noticeable processing/signal delay with Sony projector LOTS of audio processing modes to choose from

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver had all the bells and whistles that I needed BUT the main reason I bought this receiver was for Bluetooth connectivity to stream my music collection from my laptop. The Bluetooth connectivity is sub-par as it continually looses connectivity then you have to stand on your head and do resets and even unplug from house power to get it to be recognized to pair again. Crutchfield was no help and referred me to Onkyo. Onkyo had me update the firmware and it still looses connectivity. So frustrating when you are entertaining and the music stops and then it takes you a half hour to get connected again. None of my other cheapo Bluetooth devices have this problem with other devices. Total waste of a lot of money.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Completely unhappy with my purchase of this Onkyo receiver as well as the support offered by Crutchfield. I purchased this receiver about 7 months ago and have nothing but issues with it. I've come to the conclusion that the subwoofer pre-out doesn't work (my brand new Klipsh 15" sub won't produce sound) after replacing the the sub 3 times. I've read every forum, troubleshooting article, went through settings 100X with no solution. Crutchfield doesn't offer warranties like BestBuy would so my resolution is send it to some 3rd party company for service. After spending over 3K on home audio equipment in the last year, I'm left with a broken receiver and non-functional sub and told to call a 3rd party. I specifically bought from Crutchfield because of their reputation for service however I will be taking my business elsewhere. Not that most companies care these days, which is shame because I spend thousands and thousands on tech gear annually.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchase this awesome receiver as an outlet item at a great price and I could not be happier with it. It replaced my 5 year old Pioneer Elite VSX-51. Now that I finally took the time to go through all the setup and tweaking I'm really enjoying using it. I like the GUI through your HDMI TV, very easy to follow and understand. The sound is clean and can get very loud without much distortion at all. The volume control takes a little getting used to, you have to turn it up to around 40 or 50 to start getting significant sound from it but from that point the sound really starts to take off which I spoke to support and they confirmed that is the way is designed to perform. The bluetooth pairing audio sounds and I like the fact the with the mobile app you can use you phone as a remote control and also the controller app allows you to control all aspects of the receiver all through your wifi connection, which both the receiver and mobile device must be in the same wifi network to communicate with each other. Through the app you can also control your spodify, pandora, etc. Very well done in my opinion. The surround modes sound great and the 4K connection keeps my TV looking nice and sharp. The HDMI pass-through and also the ARC are great to have which is something I always through my old receiver was lacking. The only thing I wish is that it'd allow me to bi-amp my front speakers while allowing me a zone 2 as well but as it is designed, you can only do one not both.

Pros: Plenty of power HDMI pass-through with ARC Great app integration

Cons: Bi-amp or zone 2, it cannot do both at the same time but then again I haven't seen any other receiver in the $1,500 and under category that does so I'm fine with the zone 2 without bi-amping.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The receiver is the best-sounding one I have had, thus far. It replaced a Pioneer, which was preceded by a Yamaha. I have Def Tech Front (bi-pole)/Center channel speakers (w/built-in subs), which apparently LOVE the, "Clean," power of the unit (they sound, smooth and clear, at higher volumes; Bass responsiveness is tight, yet punchy). The LCD display on the unity could benefit from an overhaul, as could the remote. For my needs, plenty of inputs/outputs. There is an 3/8" IR input mini jack, which I have been told will support my needed IR extender (unit is inside fan-vented cabinet), however it should be a mono plug (not stereo) and operate at the 48kHz range. I purchased the TX-RZ810, as soon as the nearly IDENTICALLY-featured TX-RZ820 was released. Have only had it for about 6 weeks, but so far, very impressed! Crutchfield staff was VERY helpful in answering pre/post sales technical questions. 4 stars; Sound & build quality = excellent; User-interaction experience could use some improvements and refresh.

Pros: Excellent, wide-range, powerful, tight (not too much) CLEAN sound, especially at higher volumes. Plenty of Home Theater sound field options (for 7.2 or 5.2.2) Very good build quality Like the power auto-off feature (when kids leave it on, while not in use)

Cons: User interfaces (unit LCD panel, remote & on-screen display) need some improvements and updating (feel very old) App is a nice idea, but navigation is a bit clunky Have had some issues with iPhones picking up (and turning on) stereo, via AirPlay, while unit is in standby (network on). Android phones have no issue, via Bluetooth, while in standby (same with iPhones).

THE SOUND IS GOOD BUT YOU HAVE TO ADJUST THE EQUALIZER THROUGH THE ON SCREEN TO GET IT.

I was on a mission to replace a 10 year old home theater receiver with something more up to date. When a Sony model I selected proved not up to the task, my Crutchfield rep suggested the Onkyo. The price was a real deal, and the unit has proven extremely capable. Sound through my Polk speakers is extremely clean, and the fact that you can wake up the receiver with AirPlay is really neat. This box would get 5 stars from me, but the detailed settings really do require a lot of experimentation and trial and error. I was ultimately successful, but had to deal with things like a lost IP address after a power failure and a couple of interrelated settings that were confusing the HDMI passthrough feature. The zone 2 features are easy to use, but the manuals make it sound far more complicated than it really is. It's all working fine now, but it does require patience. Ultimately, though, it's a great piece of gear that should last for years. Not surprisingly, Crutchfield's team was great. The exchange was painless and ridiculously quick, and the ability of their staff to "calibrate" to the customer's expertise is top notch. All in all, a great experience.

Excellent unit, it replaced my pioneer sc-61 which wouldn't connect to pandora anymore and didn't have a 4K pass through. The onkyo works well in my second room via smartphone and the sound separation is great.

Pros: Love phono input my last unit was lacking

Cons: Had to do a reset to get my second room to work. Support didn't tell me. Looking that up online. But happy

Excellent for the price, but know its limitations.

I replaced my old Onkyo 803 with this purchase. The sound is amazing though disappointed that the height and back surround will not work at same time. Easy set up. The system walks you through it. Done in minutes. I love the 7 HDMI inputs BUT, the unit does not have specific input buttons for for HDMI inputs 6 and 7! Huge disappointment. The inputs are programmable using the TV and CD button but then what do you use for those inputs. That is a bad design. However for the price this is what you give up for quality sound. Pros: great sound. Tons of analog and digital inputs. Easy set up. Nice price. Internet connected. Cons: Crutchfield said that Onkyo has upgraded to a different remote and that the older one had more options

The RZ810 is a replacement upgrade from the TX-NR809 (135 W/Ch) Even the RZ810 (130 W/Ch) has 5 watts less per channel, still has enough power to perform great. This RZ receiver no longer has an RF (TV)output. As always plenty of HDMI Outputs and it seems ONKYO added more simplicity in the MENU operations. Comparing the clarity of both, I can noticed the new RZ sounds a little bit sharper in the High Frequencies, self adjustment are not very accurate. Recommend to use an SPL Level.( Those Androids apps are a little bit more accurate than the self adjusting software. Great Receiver, . I usually crank this up about 75% of its Power;of course Higher output receiver, produces HEAT, Even thou My unit is on an Open Rack, I will add a heat extractor fan system so, it will last longer. Remote control look too simple. I Programmed my Old Remote from my old TX DS model Which is a self leaning, works ok (basic and Macros functions) Self Learning remotes are little complicated to Program the Macros Function. Besides the Remote... Very Excited with the New ONKYO RZ 810.

Pros: Great Power Output, and very clean sound.

Cons: Remote looks Cheap, not even self illuminated. Will be great if they bring back the Self Learning Remote control.

Set up was easy and intuitive. I've had my unit for about a week and have not yet run into any major issues - so far so good. Remote is basic and functional, and the controller app for an android phone has worked well thus far.

    Pros: Power, app, wifi strength

Cons: Not really anything. The Yamaha app is a little better so maybe that.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound but almost returned it when I read the manual and discovered that it will not play height and back speakers at the same time. Crutchfield support came up with a work around by having me add an amplifier into the height speaker preamp. That worked for an additional $160 expense. However the screen does not show the additional speakers. It thinks only the max number of seven are working. If it had not been heavily discounted I would have purchased the RZ1100. Note, the 1100 also requires an additional amp for back speakers if you want to add the 4 height ceiling speakers but at least you get the additional 2 height speakers mentioned in the sales literature. Basically, your are shorted 2 speakers for both models. This is not clear in the ads for these models. Note that you also have to be knowledgeable about secondary audio settings on your Blu ray player. If not set to off the player will input 5.1 instead of 7.1. Onkyo tech support does not seem to know this.

Pros: Excellent surround sound, great price not worth the higher priced one. See con.

Cons: Have too choose from height or back speakers. Will not play both. There is a work around by adding another amplifier.

I wasn't shopping for any new equipment, but then we had a lightning hit... My previous receiver was something that I had invested a lot of time in for set up and such, so I wasn't happy with the thought of spending all of that time over again to get things to where I liked them. With this receiver, that was no problem at all! The initial setup that popped up when I first powered it on was fast and easy. Even with custom naming the inputs, auto EQ and so on, I bet everything was done in an hour. And I got some new things that were nice and some unexpected. I can control volume from the new Apple TV remote! Updating to 4K HDMI switching as well as having Air Play and Bluetooth inputs that actually work has been very nice. Overall, I have to say that I'm happier with this unit than the one I replaced. That's really all that matters. And this cost much less than I spent on my last one!

Pros: Super intuitive initial setup, good remote, great on-screen guide for set up, auto EQ that works very well, streaming choices, solid HDMI switching. The FM tuner even picked up my favorite stations.

Cons: Heavy. Large. Check everything and plan ahead before you start your installation.

I needed to upgrade my Onkyo TX-SR707, which provided many years of excellent service and is still going strong....it just can't do 4k streaming. And, while I probably would not have jumped just for the 4k, since the pickings are still slim, I did feel compelled to put something in place with new sound processing technology and a bit more head room on power. And that's why I'm keeping her. I noticed an immediate difference with more multi-channel sound being distributed to my 7.1 setup than I had with the old system. Movies sound much more theater-like now and there is plenty of head room for action/sound spikes. The price point is very good, also. Thanks, Crutchfield. You guys are the best!

This receiver has everything that one would possibly need. Whether for a home theater setup, music, games, as well as practically anything else, it has virtually all the inputs, power, and surround choices that are presently being used. Nor can one ignore the high quality that this unit possesses. It has the looks, feel and weight of a quality product. The flip down panel and volume knob look and feel like they came off of a high end unit..But the real reason one buys a receiver is for sound quality, and this receiver has great sound quality. Setup is easy, but could be easier. Not Plug-N-Play. Plugging a DVD into the DVD input resulted in no picture or sound. One must set the type of HDMI input during setup or after making changes. But once figured out, it was easy. The other negative is that it needs to come with better instructions. The nuisances of the setup and lack of detailed instructions are the only reason I am giving it a 4-star and not a 5-star rating. But once one gets past those issues, the receiver definitely deserves a 5-star rating. But those negatives aside. Once set up correctly, most will be extremely pleased with this receiver and won't desire anything more. Nor can one overlook the great price that one can buy this for. Obviously the best buy at the moment. Highly recommended.

Ron from Dallas, TX on 4/18/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've stuck with separate components since the 80's because back then receivers were a bit of a joke compared to them. Most recently I tried out a mid-range Yamaha receiver approximately one year ago that I returned. With this receiver, I've been pleased with both video soundtracks and the music output from my turntable. This thing exudes high build quality in all aspects. Contrary to another review I read, I think size does matter with receivers. In my experience more weight with an a/b amp means a better transformer. That translates into more headroom and better control. I am using a separate amp and sub for most of the sound effects from movies, but my main speakers are set to large, and the receiver is driving them very nicely. Some other things I like are that it remains cool both in standby mode, and while operating. The network connection remains stable - I don't have to reset/restart it like with some other receivers I've used. For nits, I did not find the auto-equalization to be very accurate. I input my own distances and used my own mic and setup disc to balance the speakers and set their crossovers. I am also disappointed the ChromeCast update for it has not rolled out yet. Overall, for the price from Crutchfield I find this receiver to be an outstanding value.

Pros: Sound &, build quality Flexible enough for any situation I can think of! Different equalization mods available to each set of speakers

Cons: AccuEQ setup was not very accurate in my room

Purchased and installed last week and I have been enjoying the great sound ever since. I recently retired my 10 year old Pioneer VSX-515 100 WPC 6 channel receiver for this Onkyo TX-RZ810. Now my audio setup sounds different/much better. My old (4) JBL S3800 Bookshelf Speakers, (2) Klipsch KG2.5 Rear Surrounds, a JBL 12" Sub and JBL center channel round out the remaining speakers. This unit has the power to drive them all with no problem. Movies now come to life and the music just sounds great. Later this year I plan on trashing all the speakers for a newer, more modern setup. This Onkyo receiver will be my mainstay amp hopefully for the 5 to 10 years. Crutchfield sales people were very professional and I received my unit in 3 days. Keep up the good work guys and thanks.

Pros: Great sound. Easy to setup. Plenty of power.

    Superb receiver for home theater

Dave from Burlington, MA on 4/6/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had the receiver for about three weeks now, and so far it is very impressive. It replaced a 14 year old Onkyo Integra, which was still working great, but predated HDMI. I had to use its multi-channel analog inputs and a separate stereo receiver to get 7.1 capability. I wanted to stay with a THX certified Onkyo receiver, so when the price dropped, I couldn't resist. I thought it was my imagination that the new Onkyo sounded even better than the old, since usually it's your speakers that have the greatest impact on sound quality. But my wife independently agreed with me. The sounds from the surround and rear speakers have more depth, and the front and center channels seem more vibrant. The AccuEQ auto calibration worked well; it got the distances to the 7 speakers exactly right, and was off by one foot (11 vs. 12) for the subwoofer. It set the levels so all speakers have equal volume. It also set the crossover frequencies which, I must admit, I wouldn't know what they should be set to, but, based on the unit's performance, it must have set them OK. Case in point, I just watched a blu-ray of Captain America Civil War and it sounded fantastic. I did increase the subwoofer level so that the room shook, but that is my personal taste. And music CD's sound great, too.

Pros: Superb performance Feature packed Auto room calibration HDMI switching, even in standby mode THX certified

Cons: None yet, time will tell

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver to replace my old (but still working very well) receiver Pioneer Elite VSX-53. The Onkyo has a couple of more features, new sound norms (such as DTS Neural X) and, of course, is 4K compatible (this was the main reason for the change). The Onkyo also features an automatic calibration system for the speakers, which works just as fine as the one on my old Pioneer (even though it seems to be a bit more manual, it is also more flexible and open). The sound quality is tremendous (better than the Pioneer, I would say), and the picture quality is, well, 4K. So overall a very good piece of hardware, especially considering that I bought it at this price at Crutchfield (instead of the regular price).

Pros: Great sound, automatic room calibration, great image

Cons: Sometimes slow when switching between the inputs

Upgraded from Denon. Much better than anticipated. Great reproduction of bass. Even the picture seems to look better. But there are down sides. It should do a better job with speech in the center speaker and there are not enough adjustments that can be made overall.

Pros: Great HT Great bass Easy set up Easy update

Cons: Not handle center speaker well Needs more adjustability given price Does not always show sound mode on screen

tx-rz810 has a very dynamic sound better than its predecessor the 800, sound separation is better than any receiver i have ever encountered, set was a breeze, menus were simple nothing fancy but good. i must say onkyo receivers are very finicky with hdmi signals and that is something that should be addressed to onkyo. other than that i am very pleased with this unit. the team at Crutchfield is top notch so you cannot go wrong with this company.

Pros: dynamic sound, channel separation, runs cool, looks great, easy set-up

Cons: finicky hdmi transmission, just okay remote, cannot go backwards selecting sound formats

Great sound, I had A pioneer Elite series, this thing blows it out of the room, its very flexable and a piece of cake to set up, it took me awhile to get it tweaked but now that I have it dialed in it's sounding awesome. I haven't had a whole lot of time with it yet but so far 5 out of 5 stars from me.

Pros: This thing sounds great once I got it dialed in, plenty of throtle and flexability, easy to set up also. I give it 5 out of 5 stars so far!

Migrated from a Sony 5200 ES (circa 2006). Having been a Sony ES fan for a number of years (I have four vintage ES models), I decided to take a look at other brands. The Onkyo RZ810 kept getting my attention because of its flexible configuration options, power, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplay, THX, DTS-X . . . the list goes on. What really sealed the deal for me was the pricing and professional reviews I read on various websites. I have played around with it for almost a week and still have a ways to go to be able to provide a fuller review. However, at this juncture, Onkyo has won me over. It has proved to be sonically superior to the Sony 5200ES when listening through my JBL Control Monitors. Thus far, I have only listened to movies (blu-ray and Netflix streaming) through the 5.1 setup, but the sound is incredible from all sources - including Bluetooth streaming from my iPhone. It is amazing how far AVRs have come over the years from a feature/price perspective. If you are looking to move up to a mid-priced, audiophile grade AVR, this one deserves a close look. It definitely will not disappoint.

Pros: Price, features, configurability. Nice on-screen display.

Cons: Wish the tiny buttons were backlit on the front panel, but not a deal-breaker since you will use a remote to tinker with settings anyway.

    Great features and sound!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Only a few weeks and a few movies in, this is a great receiver. I would love to be able to compare it back to back with some of its chief competition in my own living room, but alas, that is not possible. So instead, I read as much as I could about the unit on the 'net and found that it was recommended by all at its MSRP, so it seemed a no brainer at almost 1/2 price. Compared to my older, pre-HDMI Onkyo TX-SR803, this unit has loads more features and seems to make more power with less effort. Voices are clearer and the surround more pronounced through my Kipsch/Velodyne system. I wonder what motivated the recent price drop across multiple retailers, but for the money I suspect it will be hard to top the performance and feature set.

Pros: Up to date for current and near future needs Easy hook up with lots of inputs and outputs Easy set up produces good sound quickly Ability to customize all set up options

    Cons:

RZ810 can hold its own with Onkyo's more powerful receivers

Bought this RZ810 because it has the HDMI 4K pass through port to run out new 4K Samsung. We had an Onkyo 1010 model and was concerned I was going to loose some performance with this lesser equipped RZ. After it arrived, we took it out of the box, pulled my big beast 1010 out of TV stand and hooked up the RZ810, used the Audio EQ to dial in the 7.2 speakers that are SAMSUNG THX certified and put on a Joe Bonomassa Live Video concert and turned the receiver up to THX Screaming Sound.. well the edict? WOW!! Not only was the RZ810 in the same league in Sound and power preformance to its Bigger more powerful 1010 but if anything the sound was crisper, clearer., if possible., but the balance after audio EQ was better because the 1010 is a natural 9.2 system, and using only 7.2 Surround speakers always was work with the 1010. For the price,?! This Onkyo will not only set the neighbors hair on fire, but your Credit Card balance won't set yours off when it comes time to play.

Pros: Everything about this Onkyo from preformance to price is Great!

    Cons: None,

Overall, I think this is a great overall buy (quality, features and price). When my Marantz SR6003 AV receiver died, I did research on a number of AV receivers, Marantz, Denon, Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha and Onkyo). Requirements centered around 4K SUHD capabilities. From a budget perspective, I was looking in the $700-$1400 range. The features of the Onkyo TX-RZ810 made it the logical choice for the price. So far so good with the install in to my Home Theater system. The set-up of the receiver was pretty simple (see below). The sound is great. I have it in a 5.1 surround mode. The receiver has capabilities for 7.2 however. The sound balancing system is simple to for calibration all speakers. There have been some challenges, not with the receiver though. Rather the issues were use of this receiver to a Samsung UN65KS900 SUHD TV. which uses a proprietary One Connect Box, instead of traditional HDMI inputs on the TV. Good news, the Onkyo receiver was sophisticated enough having the primary HDMI output with ARC capabilities which allowed the audio to flow from my cable box and Blu-Ray player through the One Connect Box back into the receiver. [Only issues: I can't see the Onkyo graphics on the TV but that is minor at this point] Check it out, this receiver is a great value proposition.

Pros: Sound quality; Inputs; easy set up; 4K UHD capabilities; advanced features

    Cons: None

I upgraded from a SR804 which performed well for 10 years. I have had onkyo receivers since 1978 and they have always lasted. I was looking for another 7 channel THX machine and the RZ810 certainly delivers. The amp has plenty of power to drive any speaker configuration you may have. The setup is easy as it optimizes your speakers automatically. The tone settings and listening mode choices further refines the sound to your tastes. The sound is clear and crisp. The wifi works well and the 810 is one of the few receivers with phono input which is a must for me. The only con is that it omits the first few seconds of every song when using a digital source. My 804 didnt do that. If you can live with this minor annoyance or find a work around like i did, you will find the 810 a superb centerpiece for your home theater.

This was a big upgrade from my previous 10 year old Yamaha RX-1600 AV Receiver. The Onkio TX-RZ810 has everything I was looking for in a receiver; 4K capable, WiFi, Bluetooth, enough HDMI inputs to expand with addition components, a HDMI input on the front panel for my HD Camera and lastly it has auto in for a Phono. This is a great receiver and setup was reasonably easy. I do wish it had hookups for more like my old receiver, but we can't have everything. Sound is wonderful and wifi and bluetooth both work perfectly. The remote leaves a little to be desired but I will be getting a different remote so it doesn't matter. Overall this is a great receiver and with a little more setup time I will have things the way I want them.

This is my first Onkyo AVR. I replaced a Yamaha RX-A1030 AVR with the Onkyo TX-RZ810. I have also owned a Marantz AVR and Pioneer Elite VSX-03. Set up was pretty easy. I hooked up my cable box to it and ran an HDMI cable from the ARC (HDMI) to my Sony 930D 4K TV. Turned on the TV as well as the Onkyo 810. I switching the output to CBL/SAT (HDMI #2 slot). The Onkyo 810 setup screen appeared and walked me through setting up/configuring the 810 to include WIFI, speaker layout, turning on ARC feature, and downloading the firmware update. It really was painless. One note, I manually setup all my speakers as I didn't like the settings when I used the AccuEQ. I haven't tested all the features and etc. But so far, I am enjoying the 810.

Pros: Ease of setup Excellent sound

Cons: AccuEQ does not work as well as I would have hoped.

My first 810 was dead on arrival, my second 810 sounds awesome!

gwenm from Osage Beach, MO on 6/6/2016

Though my first Onkyo TX-RZ 810 was dead on arrival, I decided to try again and had it replaced with another. I hope this receiver lasts because it's the best sounding receiver I've ever owned. I've had Sony's, Denon's, Pioneer Elite's and the Onkyo win's hand's down! Was worried that it wouldn't have the power I needed for my room but this thing is a powerhouse of defined, clean & beautiful sound. I hope I don't ever have to make use of the warranty, I would hate to part with the receiver for any length of time.

Pros: Great sounding receiver with lots of features and firmware upgrades down the road.

Cons: Quality control appears to be a big issue unfortunately, the clicking standby light/no sound/nonworking issue I had with the first 810 appears to be a long standing issue with Onkyo receivers. Why Onkyo has failed to address this issue years ago is frankly incomprehensible and shameful?

RZ Series: Onkyo's premium RZ series AV receivers feature upgraded components, such as a massive transformer and custom capacitors that provide high instantaneous current for lightning-fast transient response and a frequency range that extends down to 5 Hz. Discrete amp circuits prevent phase shifting, clearly focusing the audio image and cutting distortion even at extreme volume levels. The RZ series amplifier delivers a significant boost to the dynamics, detail, and accuracy of music and movie soundtracks for a listening experience that packs a stunning emotional impact. The RZ series are backed by a 3 year parts & labor warranty.

Dynamic Audio Amplification: The TX-RZ810 AV receiver features Onkyo's Dynamic Audio Amplification with a 7-channel amplifier rated at 130 watts (into 8-ohms, at 20Hz-20kHz, with 0.08%, driving 2 channels). Onkyo's new Dynamic Audio Amplification technology incorporates a Hi-Current amplifier design w/ discrete output stage circuitry, WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology), H.C.P.S (High Current Power Supply), separate block construction, and Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry for dynamic, detailed, and clear sound.

    • Hi-Current Amp Design: The unique elements of Onkyo's Dynamic Audio Amplification system comprise high-current, low-impedance architecture with discrete output stage circuitry & custom 15,000 μF audio capacitors for instantaneous high-current power and precisely control of your loudspeakers for dynamic, accurate sound.
    • Wide Range Amp Technology (WRAT): Onkyo's Wide Range Amp Technology (WRAT) circuit layout prevents phase shifting by pushing the roll-off point higher than the listening-level frequency. Amplifying sound without phase shift creates an uncommonly well-focused and realistic audio image.
    • H.C.P.S. (High Current Power Supply): Under the anti-resonant cover of any Onkyo receiver, you'll instantly notice the High Current Power Supply (H.C.P.S.) transformer. With its huge, isolated power supply design and high-capacity filter capacitors, it delivers the large amounts of power necessary for reproducing the wide dynamics of movie soundtracks and the detail and clarity of your music.
    • High-Quality Construction: The AV receiver employs a separate analog amp and digital processing block construction to reduce interference. Copper bus bars and rigid insulators are used to further reduce signal interference. An aluminum front-panel & volume control aid in the receiver's anti-resonance.
    • Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry: Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry adjusts the gain so that less than half the amount of attenuation is needed, ensuring the signal never comes close to the noise floor. This protects the signal against noise, resulting in a dramatically clearer sound.

Amplifier Assignment: The 7-channel amplifier can be configured in a variety of ways to match your type of speaker setup.

    • Surround Back (7.1ch): The Onkyo TX-RZ810 provides 7.1ch surround in your main listening area with dedicated Surround Back speakers.
    • Front Bi-Amp (5.1ch): The Surround-Back/Height speaker terminals can be reassigned and used along with the Front terminals to bi-amp the front speakers, providing improved bass & treble performance. When bi-amping the front speakers the receiver is limited to a 5.1ch speaker system in the main room (no Surround Back or Front Height speakers)
    • Powered Zone 2 (7.1ch + Zone 2): In this configuration, you can connect Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back, and Zone 2 speakers to the AV receiver. When Zone 2 is off, all seven channels will be used in the Main Zone. However, when Zone 2 is on, power to the two surround back (or front height) channels will be directed to the two speakers in Zone 2 and the Main Zone will receive only five channels of power.
    • Dolby Atmos (5.1.2ch): The Surround-Back/Front-High speaker terminals are assigned to power a pair of Front-Height, Rear-Height, Overhead Ceiling, or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers to create 5.1.2ch Dolby Atmos surround sound. Zone 2 speaker can still be powered by the receiver in the configuration. When Zone 2 is off, all seven channels will be used in the Main Zone for Dolby Atmos. However, when Zone 2 is on, power to the Dolby Atmos channels will be directed to the two speakers in Zone 2 and the Main Zone will receive only five channels of power without Dolby Atmos.

Dual 32-Bit DSP Engines: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 AV receiver employs powerful and highly accurate 32-bit DSP (Digital Signal Processor) engines for better surround sound reproduction.

384kHz/32-Bit Hi-Grade DAC: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 utilizes one premium-quality AK4458 digital-to-analog converter from Asahi Kasei for all channels. This 384kHz/32-bit DAC implements unique low-distortion filtering technologies for clear sound, and unlocks the full potential of any audio format, including compressed, lossless, and hi-res audio (MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, OggVorbis, AAC, Apple Lossless, DSD 5.6 MHz, LPCM, and Dolby TrueHD). The TX-RZ810 offers additional DAC signal processing to make sure your movie & music soundtracks sound their best.

    • Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (Front Channels Only): Onkyo developed Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) to reassemble the signal in its original form following processing. Unlike conventional filters, VLSC removes pulse noise generated in D/A conversion, allowing the sound wave to be reproduced with extremely high fidelity for a smooth analog signal. The signal's data is converted between sampling points and joined with analog vectors in real time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result is a virtually noiseless, smooth, analog signal that brings out even the most subtle of nuances in music sources.
    • PLL Jitter-Cleaning Circuit Technology: PLL (Phase Locked Loop) jitter-cleaning circuit technology reduces jitter by comparing the input and output phases of the digital signal and creating an accurate clock waveform. This enhances the precision of digital signal processing and noticeably improves audio quality. Jitter-cleaning technology works both for digital signals input via HDMI and for digital signals converted from analog signals inside the receiver itself

THX Select 2 Plus Certified: The TX-RZ810 AV receiver is THX Select 2 Plus certified. Founded by George Lucas, THX develops stringent standards that ensure movies are reproduced in movie theaters and home theaters just as the director intended. From early design concepts to product rollout, THX works with its manufacturing partners at each step of product development. Every detail is meticulously mapped to the THX performance standards. And THX engineers spend countless hours testing and analyzing each product for sound quality, usability and interoperability. The result of this collaborative process is a THX Certified receiver, amplifier or pre-amplifier designed from the ground-up to present your favorite movies, music, and games in 5.1ch to 7.1ch surround sound loud and clear at studio reference volumes. THX Select 2 Plus is specified for rooms where the screen-to-seat viewing distance is 10-12' and the room volume is 3,000 cubic feet or greater. Additional features of THX Select 2 Plus certification includes:

    • THX Re-EQ: The speakers for the front channel are installed behind the screen in a movie theater. For this reason the high range is enhanced in the front channel of the sound track to take account of acoustic characteristics such as the necessity to penetrate the screen. Re-EQ adjusts soundtrack with enhanced high range to make it suitable for home theater.
    • Timbre Matching: The human ear changes our perception of a sound depending on the direction from which the sound is coming. In a movie theater, there is an array of surround speakers so that the surround information is all around you. In a home theater, you may only have two speakers located to the side of your head. In this case, the Timbre Matching feature filters the information going to the surround speakers so that they more closely match the tonal characteristics of the sound coming from the front speakers. This ensures seamless panning between the front and surround speakers.
    • Adaptive Decorrelation: In a movie theater, a large number of surround speakers help create an enveloping surround sound experience. If a home theater only has two sidewall surround speakers, the surround speakers may sound similar to headphones, lacking spaciousness and envelopment. Surround sounds will also collapse toward the closest speaker as you move away from the middle seating position. Adaptive Decorrelation slightly changes one surround channel's time and phase relationship with respect to the other to simulate a movie theater surround experience, using only two speakers.
    • Advanced Speaker Array: ASA is a proprietary THX technology which processes the audio on the two side and two back surround speakers for the optional surround sound experience. When you set up your home theater system using eight speaker outputs (Front Left, Center, Front Right, Surround Right, Surround Back Right, Surround Back Left, Surround Left, and Subwoofer), be sure to go to the THX Audio Setup screen and choose the setting that closely corresponds to the back speaker spacing. This will reoptimize the surround sound field. ASA is used in three modes: -THX Select2 Cinema, THX Select2 Music and THX Select2 Games.
    • THX Surround EX: THX Surround EX is a joint development between Dolby Laboratories and THX Ltd. The THX Surround EX mode further expands 5.1ch movie soundtrack to 7.1ch playback.
    • THX Loudness Plus: THX Loudness Plus compensates for the tonal and spatial shifts that occur when the volume is reduced by intelligently adjusting ambient surround channel levels and frequency response. With THX Loudness Plus, home theater audiences can experience the rich details in a surround mix at any volume level.
    • Boundary Gain Compensation: If your listening room layout (for practical or aesthetic reasons) locates most of the listeners close to the rear wall, the resulting bass level can be sufficiently reinforced by the boundary that the overall sound becomes "boomy". THX Select2 Plus receivers contain a Boundary Gain Compensation (BGC) feature to improve bass balance.

AccuEQ w/ AccuReflex: AccuEQ conducts two measurements: (1) it measures and sets the distance, sound pressure level and crossover of your speakers and subwoofer to ensure all channels are treated equally (2) it evaluates your room's sonic characteristics and adjusts your speaker's frequency response to prevent standing waves from forming. AccuEQ incorporates AccuReflex technology to align the phase of upfiring "height" speakers with the sound coming directly from your other speakers. Any delay is resolved so that everything arrives at your ears at the same time. The result is cohesive reproduction of object-based soundtracks. You can save up to 3 AccuEQ presets. The included microphone plugs into the front-panel of the receiver.

Note: You can choose bypass the AccuEQ for your front speakers or all speakers, and manually set the distance, crossover, EQ, and level of each speaker.

Compatible Digital Audio Formats: The AV receiver supports the following stereo & multichannel digital audio formats through its HDMI jacks and optical/coax digital inputs.

Immersive Surround Sound: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 AV receiver goes beyond regular surround with the latest immersive surround sound formats, including Dolby Atmos, & DTS:X.

    • Dolby Atmos: With Dolby Atmos, sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill your home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail, and depth. The TX-RZ810 has the processing power to run a more enveloping 5.1.2ch Dolby Atmos layout utilizing ceiling mounted or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers (sold separately). A 5.1.2ch speaker configuration is based upon a traditional 5.1 speaker layout complemented by 2 overhead or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.
    • DTS:X (via future firmware update): DTS:X will be enabled through an online firmware update coming later this year. DTS:X is the next generation object-based, multi-dimensional audio technology from DTS. Unbound from channels, DTS:X conveys the fluid movement of sound to create an incredibly rich, realistic and immersive soundscape - in front of, behind, beside and above the audience - more accurately than ever before. DTS:X offers the ability to automatically adapt the audio to the speaker layout that best fits your space.

Post Decoding Formats: The Onkyo AV receiver supports Dolby Surround, DTS Neural:X, and DTS Neo:6 (Music/Cinema) to enhance 2-channel and multichannel decoding formats.

    • Dolby Surround: Dolby Surround offers an enhanced cinema experience to your 2ch or multichannel movie soundtracks using your existing 5.1ch, 7.1ch or Dolby Atmos speaker setup. Dolby Surround enhances audio definition by improving the spatial dimension and overall audio definition of movie soundtracks. It does this by using four distinct surround zones that provide greater control over the exact placement of each detail in a movie sound track, so audio can be matched more accurately to the video on screen; this means more depth and greater realism for your movies. As a result, individual sounds are clearer and more distinct. It also improves the surround sound experience across the entire theater by widening the listening "sweet spot".
    • DTS Neural:X (via future firmware update): DTS Neural:X will be enabled through an online firmware update coming later this year. DTS:X incorporates Neural:X, the latest spatial remapping technology from DTS, which provides a fully immersive output for all types of source content; this includes DTS bitstreams and non-encoded (PCM) data. Neural:X delivers a thrilling sense of immersive sound to your speaker layout regardless of the original source format.
    • DTS Neo:6: DTS Neo:6 is an advanced matrix decoder that takes any two-channel source (including television broadcasts, CDs and DVDs) and expands it into five or six channels. It also provides separate, optimized modes for stereo music materials and matrix surround motion picture soundtracks. DTS Neo:6 brings you a more revealing sound from ordinary stereo and a more expansive home cinema experience.

Onkyo Original DSP Modes: Onkyo's Original DSP Modes, combined with Dolby Digital & DTS processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. You can choose from the following:

    • Orchestra: For classical or operatic music.
    • Unplugged: For acoustic instruments, vocals, and jazz.
    • Studio-Mix: Suitable for rock or pop.
    • TV Logic: Adds realistic acoustics to TV shows.
    • Game: The receiver offers four different Gaming modes - RPG, Action, Rock, and Sports.
    • All Ch Stereo: Stereo sound from all speakers. Ideal for background music.
    • Full Mono: All speakers output the same sound in mono.
    • Theater-Dimensional (T-D): Theater-Dimensional circuitry takes the complexity out of conventional surround-sound setups and lets you experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers. Theater-Dimensional's unique multi-speaker modes let you place up to five speakers conveniently by the TV, for the most realistic virtual-surround sound possible.

Audiophile Listening Modes: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 offers two audiophile listening modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. In Direct mode, audio from the input source is output without surround-sound processing. This mode delivers pure sound with minimum sound quality adjustment and filtration. In Pure Audio mode, the display and video circuitry are turned off, minimizing possible noise sources for the ultimate in high-fidelity audio reproduction.

Audio Enhancements: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.

    • CinemaFilter: The CinemaFilter softens overly bright movie soundtracks. Movie soundtracks are typically mixed for a large theater (relative to your home theater) with lots of soft seats and thick curtains on the walls. Home theater settings often lack these high frequency absorbing wall treatments, making the soundtrack sound too bright. CinemaFilter accounts for this and for many movies sounds more natural at home.
    • Music Optimizer: The Music Optimizer function enhances the sound quality of compressed music files. The Music Optimizer function only works with PCM digital audio input signals with a sampling rate below 48kHz, analog input signals, and Bluetooth audio.
    • Late Night Feature: The Late Night feature limits the dynamic range of Dolby Digital recordings. Limiting the dynamic range makes it easier to find a volume that ensures the quiet sounds are not too quiet and the loud sounds are not too loud for night time listening. This allows you to comfortably listen to without the need to constantly adjust the volume to keep from waking family/neighbors. The choices are: Off, Low, and High. This feature only works with Dolby Digital Encoded software and the depth of the feature will vary based on the individual software package.

Bass Management: The Onkyo AV receiver offers Tone Control, Phase Matching Bass technology, and a Double Bass feature to get the most bass impact out of your system.

    • Tone Controls: You can independently adjust the Bass (90Hz) and Treble (7.5kHz) of the receiver's Front L/R channels from -10 to +10 dB.
    • Phase Matching Bass: Onkyo's Phase-Matching Bass optimizes low frequencies while preserving mid-range clarity. This means that powerful bass plays back with clear vocals; it doesn't overpower them.
    • Double Bass: You can also activate the Double Bass function in order to boost bass output even more by feeding bass sounds to the front left/right speakers, center-channel, and powered subwoofer.

Volume Setup: The Onkyo AV receiver provides the following volume settings.

    • IntelliVolume: With IntelliVolume, you can set the input level for each input (+/-12dB) selector individually. This is useful if one of your source components is louder or quieter than the others. This function does not work in Zone 2.
    • Maximum Volume: Use this feature to set the receiver's maximum volume level. This feature is useful to avoid turning the volume too loud by mistake. You can set the Max Volume from 30-79 (max), or Off (disabled).
    • Power On Volume: Use this feature to set the volume level when the power is turned on. You can choose between Last (same as the volume when the unit was turned off), Min (0), or 1-79.
    • Mute Level: Set the volume lowered from the listening volume when "Mute" is selected. Choose from 0, -40dB, or -20 dB.
    • Headphone Level: With this setting, you can specify the headphone volume (+/-12dB) relative to the main volume. This is useful if there's a volume difference between your speakers and your headphones.

Phono Input: The Onkyo AV receiver is fitted with a Phono (MM) input and ground terminal for connection of a turntable, so you can enjoy listening to your vinyl records.

Analog Audio Outputs: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 is outfitted with the following analog audio outputs.

    • Binding-Post Speaker Terminals: There are binding-post terminals for all speaker connections - Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back, Zone 2A, and Zone 2B/Height. The binding post terminals will accept bare-wire, pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single only). Use 6- to 16-ohm speakers.
    • 7.2ch Pre-Outs: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 features 7.2ch pre-outs (Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back/Height, and Dual Subwoofer) for connection of an external power amplifier. The pre-outs are variable. The dual sub outputs are wired in parallel and share the same input signal (they are not discrete).
    • Headphones: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

    Video Features

HDMI 2.0a: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 has eight HDMI 2.0a inputs (7 rear/1 front) and dual HDMI 2.0a outputs. The dual HDMI outputs can simultaneously output the same audio/video signal to two TVs, or you can assign the second HDMI output to Zone 2 to display a different HDMI source in another room (video is output at the resolution supported by both TVs). Thanks to the latest HDMI 2.0a specification, the receiver can support 4K/60 Hz Ultra-HD video, HDCP 2.2 compatibility, 4:4:4 color sub-sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and BT.2020 Wide Color Gamut.

    • 4K/60Hz: The TX-RZ810 supports up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) video @ 60 frames per second on all of its HDMI inputs and outputs. It will also pass a 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p video signals via HDMI
    • HDCP 2.2: The receivers HDMI 1-3 inputs and both HDMI monitor outputs support HDCP 2.2, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission.
    • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: The receiver's HDMI 1-3 inputs and both HDMI monitor outputs support RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, and YCbCr 4:2:0 color subsampling (@ 60Hz or 50Hz). With 4:4:4 color subsampling, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate; resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. HDMI inputs 4-8 only support 4K 60/50Hz @ YCbCr 4:2:0.
    • HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth.
    • Wide Color Gamut (BT.2020): The BT.2020 color standard delivers a much wider color gamut and represents about 75% of the total visual color spectrum, while the current Rec. 709 color standard selected as the color space for HDTVs and early generation 4K Ultra HDTVs covers only 35% of the total visual color spectrum.
Note: Use a premium high-speed 18Gbps HDMI cable for the best 4K/HDR performance.

1080p-to-4K HDMI Upscaling: The Onkyo TX-RZ810 AV receiver can affectively upscale 1080p HDMI video to stunning 4K Ultra-HD through its main HDMI monitor output.

Analog Video-to-HDMI Conversion: Analog composite and component video signals (480i only) input to the receiver will be converted to HDMI signals and then output from the receiver via its main HDMI monitor output to your TV. The resolution remains the same and is not upscaled.

Other HDMI Features: The TX-RZ810 AV receiver's HDMI connectivity also offers 3D video pass-through, ARC (Audio Return Channel), Deep Color & x.v. Color support, as well as an auto LipSync function.

    • 3D-Ready: All HDMI jacks will accept 3D video from your 3D-ready Blu-ray player and output the video signal in 3D to your 3D-ready flat-panel television.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): The receiver's main HDMI output features ARC (Audio Return Channel). This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television. The sub HDMI monitor output does not support this feature.
    • Deep Color & x.v.Color Support: The AV receiver supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture
    • Auto Lip-Sync: The Lip-Sync function can automatically synchronize HDMI audio and video (for any HDMI jack) that has gotten out of sync due to the complex digital video processing being performed by your HDMI-compatible TV. With HDMI Lip-Sync, the audio delay required to synchronize the audio and video is calculated and applied automatically by the AV receiver. You can also manually correct the audio delay from 0 (no delay) to 400 milliseconds; in 10 millisecond steps.

HDMI Through: When enabling the HDMI Through function, regardless of whether the AV receiver is "O" or in "Standby", both audio/video streams from an HDMI input will be output to your television, via the receiver HDMI monitor output. You can select between three HDMI Through modes.

    • Auto: Detects the signal and automatically selects the input sources.
    • Source: Selects the HDMI input source for which the HDMI Through function in enabled.
    • Last: The HDMI Through function is activated on the input source selected at the time of setting the AV receiver to the "standby" mode.

Analog Video Inputs: The receiver features two composite video inputs and two component video inputs which support 480i video signals only. All analog video input signals are converted to digital and sent via HDMI to your TV at 480i (no upscaling). The component video input is not capable of high-definition video.

Video Select: It is possible to play audio and video from different sources. For example, you can play audio via Bluetooth and video from your BD/DVD player. This function is only effective when an input with audio only (Network, Bluetooth, or Tuner) has been selected initially.

The Onkyo Remote App lets you access Internet Radio stations, AM/FM stations, DLNA content, and Input sources right from your mobile device. Content information will be displayed on the device's touchscreen. You also get to adjust tone controls, listening modes, and speaker volume from your compatible Apple iOS or Android device. The Onkyo Remote App even allows you to wirelessly stream audio stored on your Apple iOS or Android device to the Onkyo AV receiver and lets you control audio output for up to three Zones. The Onkyo AV receiver and your compatible Apple iOS or Android device must be connected to the same home network.

Google Home Voice Commands: With the Google Home voice-activated speaker (8064658762, sold separately) and the Google Home App (for Apple iOS 8.0+ or Android OS 4.2+), you can use your voice to control select functions of the Onkyo AV receiver. With a simple voice command, you can play music from Chromecast compatible music services by artist, song, genre, album, playlist, mood or activity. You can also turn up the volume, skip to the next track, or stop the music - all without lifting a finger

IR Remote: The receiver comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of this receiver and other HDMI-connected sources (via HDMI CEC).

HDMI Control: This function allows HDMI-CEC compatible components or RIHD-compatible components connected via HDMI to be controlled with the TX-RZ810 . The AV receiver offers the following HDMI-CEC controls.

    • The AV receiver will enter Standby mode when the power of the TV is turned to Standby.
    • You can set on the menu screen of the TV to either output the audio from the speakers connected to the AV receiver, or from the speakers of the TV.
    • It is possible to output the audio/video from the antenna or from the input jack of the TV from the speakers connected to the AV receiver.
    • Input to the AV receiver can be selected with the remote controller of the TV.
    • Operations such as volume adjustment or similar for the AV receiver can be performed from the remote controller of the TV.

Remote Connection: The TX-RZ810 contains a IR input, 12V trigger output, and a RS-232C port for custom remote integration.

    • IR Input: The 3.5mm IR input jack allows you to control the receiver without line-of-sight access using an optional IR remote control system and locating the remote sensor in sight.
    • 12V Trigger Out: The 12V trigger output (3.5mm) can be connected to the 12-volt trigger input on a power amplifier in Zone 2 for remote turn-on.
    • RS-232C Port: The TX-RZ810 has an RS-232C port for connection to external control systems from companies, such as AMX or Crestron.

    Convenience Features

On-Screen Menu w/ Setup Assistance (HDMI only): The Onkyo AV receiver offers an on-screen (GUI) menu system through its HDMI output. The simple on-screen display combines text and graphics that make setup and other operations extremely easy. The initial setup assistant takes you step-by-step through speaker configuration, source connection, remote programming, and network connection.

Note: Initial setup requires that the receiver be connected to your TV via HDMI for display of the on-screen menu. Many of the receiver's setup functions can only be found via the on-screen menu and not the front-panel display.

Gapless Playback: Many live and classical albums have no gaps in the music. Gapless playback ensures that there are no pauses between audio files. This provides playback with no interruptions, the way it was meant to be heard. Compatible with WAV, FLAC, and ALAC music files via USB.

Name Edit: You can enter a custom name for each individual input selector and radio preset for easy identification. When entered, the custom name will appear on the display. This function cannot be used for the AM/FM, Network, USB, and Bluetooth input selectors.

Display Dimmer: The front-panel display brightness has three settings - Dim, Dimmer, and Normal.

Timers: The receiver features a programmable Auto Standby function & programmable Sleep Timer.

    • Auto Standby: The AV receiver will automatically go into Standby mode, if there is no operation for 20 minutes with no audio/video signal input.
    • Sleep Timer: From the remote, you can set the unit to automatically turn off after 30, 60, or 90 minutes.

Firmware Updates: Future firmware updates are available from the Onkyo website through the receiver's Network or USB connection. Visit Onkyo's online Download Center for the latest firmware updates.

I have had very good success with Onkyo Receivers. This is my third. This receiver offers the advantages of more sound room speakers and more power, but the main reason is the upgraded HDMI connections (HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2) that will allow 4K Ultra HD connectivity plus the HDMI pass through when not using the receiver to power the surround sound. [ WESLEY L  Jan 29, 2018 ]

This is an upgrade from an older Onkyo Home Theater receiver at 80 w per channel recommended by Don Lindich years ago. This receiver at a great Black Friday price will definitely make my bass more pronounced at 130w per channel; that was the only thing lacking in my older Onkyo... a great receiver. I love classical music. [ T  Nov 27, 2017 ]
Features and excellent price [ James  Nov 27, 2017 ]
Top of the line product for entry level price. [ Robert  Nov 27, 2017 ]
The specs for the black Friday price of $600. I wanted a nice powered receiver for my Klipsch R28F and matching R-12SW sub (undecided about surround). I currently own a 2010 model Onkyo TXNR708 that was part of the big recall from Onkyo. Because of this price, I've decided to give them another try even though I said I wouldn't. I did a lot of searching and no other brand has this wattage and video up scale for this price. On a competitors site that starts with an A, its 14% negative ???? [ Detroit G  Nov 27, 2017 ]
    Cheap price [ Chi  Nov 26, 2017 ]
    I've had an older model (TX-SR 607) for 10 years and it's still working well. [ Richard  Nov 26, 2017 ]

i had a onkyo 808 and loved it and it just died so with price of this and research of receivers best deal for product was looking at pioneer too [ JEROME  Nov 25, 2017 ]

Great sale price on product that looks to work well for me in a brand I'm familiar with and trust. [ Joshua  Nov 24, 2017 ]
I've been wanting this receiver for a long time but could only afford it once crutchfield's black friday pricing came along. I bought a Yamaha receiver last year because of pricing but was never satisfied with the sound. Even though this is last year's model, it got great reviews so here I am! [ frank  Nov 23, 2017 ]
For me, Onkyo has the best bang for my buck. This Onkyo has all the features I am looking for: power, sonic clarity, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc. This is my 2nd Onkyo from Crutchfield. My old Onkyo still works/sounds great, it's just time to upgrade to a 4k receiver. [ J  Nov 23, 2017 ]

Product Value, and vendor support. [ Robert  Nov 09, 2017 ]
Best price out there on this great receiver. [ oucb4  Nov 09, 2017 ]
    Seems like a great value. [ Scott  Nov 08, 2017 ]
I chose this for the price. I was shopping for the under $700 AV Receiver, and caught a great deal on this. The main differences I liked are more power, more zones, and aluminum front compared to the TX-NR777 which was $649. Getting the $1300 TX-RZ810 for $699 felt like a good deal, even though the guts are pretty similar to the 777. Pairing with some new ELAC or Klipsch front speakers, and my Definitive Technology 600's for surround. [ Ryan  Nov 06, 2017 ]
    Quality, features [ todd  Nov 04, 2017 ]

Liked the higher power, plus phono inputs, and all the other stuff was what I needed. [ Mike  Jul 06, 2017 ]
    Two room video. [ Richard  Jul 04, 2017 ]
This unit pairs perfectly with the Klipsch 5.1 setup I just purchased and I can upgrade to 5.2.2 Atmos in the future with 4K. This receiver has technology to future proof itself for years to come. Should be an excellent high quality unit. Plus getting this receiver at a deep discount is great. [ M  Jun 26, 2017 ]

Thank you Crutchfield! Did I say thank you Crutchfield? It's Christmas in June baby! The awesome price drop--saving me over six hundred smackaroos! Say what!?! And the one thing I've been waiting for; independent HDMI outputs! You have no idea just how long I've been waiting to punt the crap outta the two unsightly HDMI switches. Say what? Thank you Crutchfield! I'm happy, (doing the running man). Now, where's that darn UPS truck? (-: [ Richard  Jun 07, 2017 ]

Price relative to power output; best bang for my buck for 4k compatible avr receiver that will process DTS with firmware update. Preferred lower THD of the Yamaha 2060; but not for an extra $900.00. Used that toward the larger OLED screen. [ William Seth  Jun 03, 2017 ]

Overall value, flexibility. This has a high quality preamp and amp in one unit, unlike most receivers that skimp on one or the other. Very solid preamp features and specs, including THX certification. Happy that it has preamp outs allow me to choose whether to use this as a preamp for home theater or pair it with an external amp. But it has good amp performance so may try it first as standalone. Have had experience with Onkyo before and been impressed, hope that continues with this. [ Joseph  Apr 03, 2017 ]

Good feature set for the price. I like that Crutchfield gives you 60 days to be satisfied with your purchase, and you can return it if you aren't satisfied for only a small fee. They have very good customer service. My customer service agent Susan was very helpful and answered all my questions in a live chat. I have a 19 year old Onkyo receiver that has been excellent, and wanted to purchase another one. The Onkyo TX-RZ810 is more than I thought I would be able to afford, but on sale, I couldn't pass it up. Also, could have purchased it for the same price elsewhere, but I have great trust in Crutchfield to provide a quality product and support my purchase in an honest and reliable way. [ Gary Allen  Mar 09, 2017 ]
Current receiver cannot support resolutions beyond 1080P and Onkyo is always on my short list of brands to consider. In the end it was the highly discounted price. I couldn't see paying 2X the price for something that might accept one additional connection somewhere. [ DANIEL  Mar 07, 2017 ]
wanted to upgrade my Onkyo TXNR809, good price point. [ Charles  Mar 06, 2017 ]
It has 4K/60P and 3D pass through with 7.2. Dolby Atmos, THX, and Apple air play were additional reasons. [ Andrew  Mar 06, 2017 ]
have had onkyo recieers for 40+ years. saw your email of price cut. [ R  Mar 02, 2017 ]
Evaluated several options including the Marantz SR5011 & SR6011 models, the Yamaha RX-A860 as well as some Denon models in the same price range. This was to replace my Marantz SR6003, which died and could not be repaired. I was reluctant to purchase another Marantz product after what happened to my SR6003. In my evaluation, this Onkyo model, TX-RX810, was a perfect match with a very good price point of $699.00. I can't wait to power it up. [ john  Mar 02, 2017 ]
I have several onkyo devices. This solves my issue of not having a zone 2 video as well as having a great sale on the unit [ MICHAEL  Mar 02, 2017 ]

I have owned several Onkyo products in the past and have been most satisfied with their performance. I have never had any problems with any of the products I have owned. I think that you get a lot of technology for money invested along with a reliable product. I would recommend Onyko products to anyone interested in quality A/V products. [ Stephen  Nov 10, 2016 ]

No. Home theater receivers do not offer the "monitor loop" connectivity required to connect an external EQ. [ Ryan  Apr 11, 2018 ]  Staff
Its hooked up in a built in wall unit. No way for me to pull out and check. Sorry about that. [ Benjamin  Apr 09, 2018 ]
I've looked everywhere I can think of including the manual and Onkyo's web site. I cannot find any mention of a silver chassis. I don't think it was ever produced in Silver. As for the thickness of the front, it's a little less than an inch. Also, that front is so close to the size of the body that we couldn't get a reading using a tape measure. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul  Feb 26, 2018 ]  Staff
As to a color choice? That would be better addressed by going onto Onkyo's web site and see if chassis silver is available. As to the second part of your question, the 810 has no exterior buildouts to the cabinet. Clean rectilinear face that defines the entire units shape top, bottom and sides to the back of the unit. I would estimate the Front Control Housing face is around 1/1/4" to 1//2" Deep, The front fold out door that hides all the more detailed controls behind it is around 3/8" thick. I've owned 2 Onkyo's Before this I had the Onkyo 1010 a more powerful 11 channel unit, at the time the bottom end of onkyo top end powerhouses for multiple rooms. Had it for 8 years no issues. We purchased the 810 for the 4K pass through hardware needed to run 4K sourced content. The 810 has all the same quality options, 2 Base out (we run 2 12" Base Speakers) a 7 channel surround vs 9 but we never used all the other 9/11 speaker configurations in our He Theater system anyway. The clean pure sound even at volume level 81 where the THX surround reaches its optimum sound clarity full throated.. well all I can say, is onkyo is the best. Had marantz ., Macintosh (old tube set back in the 70's) Onkyo Present day THX certified receivers.. for the money? Hands down Best Buy, as to Silver, Black, Green or Blue, I don't buy expensive Audio Equipment for a fashion statement. I purchase for $'s to value availability. Buy the 810 if your running a 5.1 7.1 is a 7.2 speaker system. Speakers then will become the next thing to address if they're not up to standards. We purchased Onkyo's THX certified 7.1 (added a extra sub) and again for the money? These speakers can take anything 120 W per ch can dish out. Without any distortion (vibration, cracking) these ears can detect. Even had a friend who owns a 5.1 set of speakers he laid out over $12,000 with base module for and told me, I can't tell the difference. Listening music. [ BILL  Feb 24, 2018 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. I've read most people liked the def techs and I paired them with the okyyo for a designated movie theater and they sound amazing. I actually bought another TZ-RZ810 for the another living room that had Bose and they aren't as impressive but still ok. [ Stanley  Jan 06, 2018 ]
This puts out a fair amount of power, so you don't want a cheap set of speakers, especially if you like to play it loud. I have a pair of Polk RTiA7's in the front, pair of RTiA1's in the back and c4 as the center channel with a pair of subwoofers. The sound is incredible, for both music and movies. No matter what powers your speakers, if they're crap, your sound is crap. [ Charles  Jan 06, 2018 ]
I don't know what is recommended, but we are running it on 7.1 B&W towers with smaller wall speakers and a big sub in a smaller family room and it sounds fabulous. [ KARLA  Jan 06, 2018 ]
The brand is more of a preference, just make sure they can handle the wattage that this receiver throws. I went with polk audio and I'm running two powered subs. With speakers I always buy speakers that have a wattage rating a little bit higher than what the receiver puts out. Not too much so that components are well matched. Hope this helps. Harmony remote. has been connected to cox cable and now amazon fire and antennae. smart tv. it all works well. all the sound is ported to the onkyo, even the antenna sound gets routed through the hdmi somehow. I added the antenna after I had cable tv and somehow the shit works. sounds great all around, even streaming netflix to the smart tv. hope this helps, I cant go into the technical of how i set it up initially but I don't recall that it was difficult. It is part of what you need to run the Bose 901 Series VI speakers. Those speakers come with an external crossover that must be connected to the front L/R preamp outputs on the receiver. Yes there are 2 inputs for 2 individual subs in zone 1. This amp is great! I wouldn't trade it for any other brand. Easy to use and a powerhouse to say the least [ Bradford  Dec 17, 2017 ]
No it cannot, 6ohm at the lowest. However! You can contact the company, and send this unit in, and they can replace some parts to make it 4 ohm for about $100. But I'd just buy an amp that can do 4 ohm and hook it up to the pre outs on this unit. [ Cone Computer  Dec 04, 2017 ]
I currently run 2 front speakers, a center speaker, 2 rear speakers, a subwoofer and its wired for 2 more front speakers for 7.1 surround sound. However, my room was too small to install the second set of front speakers. I also have a zone 2 setup with speakers on my patio which can't play music from Amazon Alexa. I hope this helps. [ Michael  Nov 28, 2017 ]
Yes it has multi zone capabilities, you can use two sets of speakers at the same time. [ Stanley  Aug 13, 2017 ]
    There is s Zone 2 [ KARLA  Aug 13, 2017 ]
no the sides you refer to I think are the surround L and surround R channels and are the main surrounds in a 5.1 setup. If you are running 5.1 and choose to put the surround speakers on the back wall versus the sidewall you still are running them off of the surround the left and surround the right channels from the amp. The surround back channels are only to be used in the 7.1 system which is why they are able to be by hand because people who don't run 7.1 can repurpose these channels. [ JOSEPH C  Jul 07, 2017 ]
There is no Onkyo mount available but the receiver is a standard component width so, it will work with rack mount shelves like the Sanus CASH22: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_051CASH22/Sanus-CASH22.html?tp=933 [ Ryan  Jul 07, 2017 ]  Staff
This amplifier has a large electrical fan at the top and will need the space at the bottom that the feet provide for proper ventilation of cool air . Thanks [ Matthew  Jul 02, 2017 ]
Feet have one screw holding each in. 7 3/16" tall without feet. [ michael  Jun 27, 2017 ]
Hello David. I could not lift mine up far enough but I assume they have removal screws. I would not remove the feet. If the space you have is too narrow I would choose a compact unit. This unit will need room for air to circulate. Good luck. [ Perry  Jun 26, 2017 ]
I've taken a look and, from what I can see, they do not come off. In reality, most receivers like this need some space around them to allow for good air circulation - they do create some heat, and that needs to be dissipated from the bottom up. [ Andrew  Jun 26, 2017 ]
The remote for my SR 805 operates the RZ 810 [ MICHAEL  Dec 13, 2017 ]
I know that the remote I got with my TX-SNR805 works with the TX-RZ810. [ DAN  Jun 26, 2017 ]
This is about the only feature we do not use,but for avr's this system will not let you down. I've never seen a more powerful system then the rz810 for the money! Sorry I didn't answer your question. Your friend Allen, [ Allen  Jun 25, 2017 ]

I haven't found where you could tune these internally. It does stae that you could use Spotify, Pandora or Tunein, but I don't use those features. If you have an external signal source then certainly it will. What I can tell you is that this receiver does a great job pusing out high quality sound and has several DSP modes for you to select from. [ Lester Dave  Apr 01, 2017 ]
Sorry I do not have the answer. I am using just for surround sound system, but, there is a dedicated Tech Support Team for the RZ Series Receivers. I had contact with them on 3 occasions and received great advise. [ Phillip  Mar 29, 2017 ]
    Not that I'm aware of. [ Michael  Mar 29, 2017 ]
If you are asking if the unit is Sirius/XM "Ready", meaning all that is required is an antenna, the answer is no. This unit does not contain a Sirius/XM tuner. You can, however, utilize one of the outputs from your portable Sirius/XM radio to connect to one of the compatible inputs on the receiver to enjoy your subscription. If you do not currently have a portable Sirius/XM radio, you can often obtain one for free or a very low price from Sirius/XM. [ PerfectPoolMan  Mar 28, 2017 ]
I subscribe too but it is not pre installed into this unit as far as I can tell, but I think you could stream it over the internet since the receiver is internet capable and I know you could buy a standalone home unit to plug into the receiver. Sirius trys all the time to get me to buy one. Hope this helps... [ Keith  Mar 28, 2017 ]
Yes, It has Sirius XM. And internet radio. Which is better. "FREE" lol [ JEFF B  Mar 28, 2017 ]
Qualified yes in the case you were OK with the same sound from your L/R height channels. One set could be powered by the main amp, and a second passed via pre-out to a second amp. If you were looking for two sets of height channels which weren't pure duplicate, you'd need to look elsewhere. [ Justin  Jun 23, 2017 ]
It will not give you a true 5.1.4 system as the processor is only good for 7 channels, 5.1.2 or 7.1. I'm looking for a 9 channel system as well but the cost seems to be about double to get the 2 extra channels (powered or not). [ jakemad  Jun 11, 2017 ]
Sorry, I have no experience with that. I can say that so far I am very impressed with this receiver. I think it is a definite upgrade from my old tx-nr809. [ Charles  Mar 21, 2017 ]
Unfortunately, I have never use that feature. You might try calling Onkyo tech for that one or repost the question to avsforum site. [ John  Mar 21, 2017 ]
Yes I believe that all the the channels are pre amp capable, you can use a seperate amp for all channels. [ Arthur  Mar 21, 2017 ]
I am not an expert in this area but this is what I gleaned from the Spec. Sheet of the TX-RZ810 on the Onkyo website. From Spec Sheet: Under advanced features, it is capable of 4K/60Hz 4:4:4 HDMI Terminals with HDCP 2.2 and HDR for UltraHD and Full HD Video Content (Supports BT.2020). I think Dolby Vision HDR is at the Rec. 2020 (BT.2020) standard. which defines UHDTV resolution, frame rate, chroma subsampling, bit depth and color space. Important to note that Dolby Vision can be supported by a firmware update. I would suggest contacting Onkyo for a specialist to more fully answer your question. [ john  Mar 13, 2017 ]
    According to onkyo - yes [ JOSEPH C  Mar 13, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
