1080p-compatible HDMI switching
If your HDTV has only one HDMI input, you'll appreciate this receiver's 1080p-compatible HDMI switching. Hook up your best HDMI-equipped high-definition sources — an HD satellite or cable box, a Blu-ray player, a high-def game console or camcorder — and switch easily among them, while maintaining pristine digital picture quality.

Advanced auto setup tailors sound to your room
For accurate home theater sound, the 'SR507 includes Audyssey 2EQ™, a sophisticated speaker calibration system. Using the included microphone, the receiver analyzes sound from two different listening positions, then automatically adjusts volume level, equalization, and delay settings for each of your speakers. You'll get clear, precise, natural sound that's optimized for your room. Plus, Audyssey's Dynamic Volume mode helps keep your sound clear and steady, eliminating those annoying spikes in volume that often accompany TV commercials.

Flexible entertainment options
This receiver's dual-room/dual-source audio capability lets you enjoy one stereo music source in your main room while a housemate listens to another audio source in a second room. You can also integrate your iPod® into your home theater system by adding Onkyo's handy control dock.

HDMI inputs don't work

Jason from Lombard, IL on 7/17/2017

My receiver WILL NOT WORK with HDMI inputs for anything other than my TV. HDMI is "not compatible" with my bluray player or Chromecast. Both both I have no sound and squigly lines on screen. It's not the HDMI cable (I can switch them out). It's not the devices (bluray player & Chromecast work perfectly when hooked up direct). It's something weird going on with the receiver where it's not accepting the signals from these devices. I've search online and discovered all kinds of issues with the HDMI inputs on this particular receiver. The HDMI inputs was the reason why I purchased. I'm very disappointed.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: HDMI inputs don't work

Works great and excellent customer support

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this receiver while it was on backorder and it came in right on time. So far it has been a great replacement for my 20 year old amp that finally gave out. Setup was a breeze, the documentation was actually quite good. The sound is great and I am only using it in stereo for now. This has made a nice upgrade. I plan to use the HDMI inputs later, once I have the office completed. I was also very impressed with the customer service from Crutchfield. I received a hand- written card thanking me for the order, due to the back-order of the unit, as well as a letter in the box from Crutchfield, apologizing for the out-of-stock item. The excellent service is why I choose to purchase this from Crutchfield and will continue to order many more items in the future!

Nice receiver for the price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this because I wanted to put together an entry level home theater system and not break the bank in doing so. I got this shipped to my door which was a pretty darn good deal considering how nice this thing is. Tons of inputs on the back, and unlike a lot of other entry level receivers, IT CAN ACTUALLY USE HDMI FOR AUDIO! Has plenty of power and amazing customization options. You can adjust the EQ settings for each individual section (front, center, surround, subwoofer) which is awesome because my center speaker is little but my front speakers have big woofers in the bottom so I turned the bass up on that channel only and it sounds awesome! Still haven't gotten around to reading the manual, so I don't know what most of the different sound modes are, but it's pretty easy to figure out which works for what I'm watching (some are even labeled like "Videogame-RPG, Videogame-Action, Music-Rock, etc" so you can basically just tell it exactly what your watching and it has an EQ setting for that! So overall I'm very happy with this receiver and would recommend it to anyone looking to put together a nice HT setup :)

Doesn't last

Adam from NJ on 2/11/2010

I purchased two of these units just over a year ago. Both are having the same trouble. That is the HDMI inputs refuse to recognize anything but the TV input. PS3/ Wii/ DVD's all come up searching for signal. They both worked fine until recently. Some internet research indicates this is not an uncommon problem for this unit. I'm here shopping for a new one to replace it.

Unbelievable Value!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've owned this for roughly one week and I love it so much that I had to jump on here to write a review. This receiver is all I wanted and more. Excellent sound, great power, convenient connectivity, what else do you need? I was skeptical about the Audyssey feature while reading about it. It sounded more like some sort of gimmick than something that would truly perform. Let me tell you it works perfectly! Audyssey is now one of my favorite features of this receiver. It takes roughly 5 minutes and very little work to run. When finished you have each speaker distance and EQ set exact. So simple! Get ready to turn it up and hear full, balanced, distortion free sound! I didn't know much about Onkyo going into this purchase, but they have certainly made me a believer in their product quality. Buy it! You won't regret it! I also can't say enough about Crutchfield's customer service. They go above and beyond to make sure you are completely satisfied with your purchase. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and will help steer you in the right direction. I experienced an issue with a different receiver I purchased from them a few weeks back (it was defective and another name brand.) The Crutchfield reps allowed me to return the bad product and upgrade to this incredible Onkyo receiver. The shipping and return transactions were completed very fast. I am a very satisfied customer.

Excellent Quality at an Affordable Price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this receiver a few months ago because my old receiver didn't have HDMI capability. I'm currently only running a 3 speaker system and it works fantastic, no problems at all. Easy to hook up. Loads of settings that you can adjust. My parents bought their onkyo receiver about 5-6 years ago and its running perfect.

Awesome Receiver!

Run, don't walk, away

Kenneth from St. Petersburg, FL on 11/5/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a piece of junk. I got it in July, it worked about 3 weeks, then it kept shutting off the main zone. It has now been in service over 5 weeks. The service company tells me that they are waiting on a part. Then it will be 10 days after that. I thought I was upgrading to a better product but will never buy Onkyo again.

Top-Notch Receiver at Middle-Range Price

Daniel from Augusta, GA on 8/11/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot of research before buying this Receiver. It's rated very highly and, after owning it for 3 weeks, I see why. This receiver has many features you'd expect to find in a $500-$600 receiver. The auto-setup function (with the included microphone) worked better than the $700 Denon I set up for a friend a couple of years ago. I love that this receiver extracts the audio from the HDMI cables so you don't have to hook up separate audio cables. It's another feature you usually only see in more expensive amps. I appreciate the front-panel connection for an MP3 player and the special processor that makes MP3s sound better. But the real point of this receiver is the way it processes Blu Ray audio. The new high-resolution DTS and Dolby audio formats sound fantastic. I think my home system now sounds BETTER than some local movie theaters! By the way, although this is a 5.1 amp, it CAN support 7.1 channels simply by hooking up you old receiver (or any 2 channel amp) to the pre-outs on the back panel. I don't use it, but the Zone 2 feature, which allows you to listen to a different source in another room, is yet another feature you'd typically find only in a much-more expensive unit. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better receiver in this price range.

Many features for a budget friendly buy

Craig from Greensboro, NC on 6/15/2009

I had never owned a receiver by Onkyo but after reading reviews and rating on the brand, this model on Crutchfield's site caught my eye. I am very pleased with the features and performance so far. The remote is great...I now operate all components (DVD, Directv, VCR) with one controller.

Great choice

Kevin from Wisconsin on 5/28/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy with this receiver. The setup was very fast and easy. I have the Energy Take Classic 5.1 speaker set and the Audyssey auto speaker setup worked very well. The system sounds great. I have a Samsung LN46B650 and a Samsung Blue-ray player so the HDMI hookup was a breeze. The sound and picture quality is great. Heat doesn't seem to be an issue. I had the receiver on at a decent volume for about 6 hours straight and it got warm but wasn't hot enough to worry about. The only issue I have ran into is that I can't get my iPod to play through the Portable input. Not sure if it's the cable, the iPod, or the receiver but other than that, this receiver is definitely worth the price.

Theater-Dimensional's unique multi-speaker modes let you place up to five speakers conveniently by the TV, for the most realistic virtual-surround sound possible.
  • Onkyo Original DSP Modes:
    • Game: The receiver offers four different Gaming modes - RPG, Action, Rock, and Sports.
    • Orchestra: For classical or operatic music.
    • Unplugged: For acoustic instruments, vocals, and jazz.
    • Studio-Mix: Suitable for rock or pop.
    • TV Logic: Adds realistic acoustics to TV shows.
    • All Ch Stereo: Ideal for background music.
    • Full Mono: All speakers output the same sound in mono.

Note: This receiver does not feature Surround Back speaker outputs; instead it features Surround Back preamp outputs. To listen to 7.1ch, you must connect an external power amplifier to the receiver's Surround Back preamp outputs to drive your surround back speakers.

Dolby Pro Logic II & IIx Music Modes: While listening in the Dolby Pro Logic II or IIx Music format, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:

  • Panorama: Broadens the front stereo image to the surround speakers to provide a wraparound effect, especially effective when there is limited output from the surround channels, panorama can be turned on/off in the menu.
  • Dimension: Allows you to move the sound field forward or backward.
  • Center Width: Allows you to adjust the width of the center channel.

Center Image: In the DTS Neo:6 Music mode, the Center Image feature adjusts the output of the left and right channels relative to the center channel, allowing you to make the center channel more or less dominant as needed. This improves the image of the center channel, especially when the listener is off-center. Adjustment varies from 5 (nothing subtracted from the L/R channels) to 0 (L/R channel output is cut in half).

Audyssey 2EQ Automatic Speaker Setup: With the supplied speaker setup microphone, Audyssey 2EQ can measure the number of speakers connected, their sizes, crossover frequencies and distances front he listening position and calculate the optimal speaker setting for you automatically. The supplied microphone is approximately 1.625" in diameter, 2.9375" tall, and has a 19.5' cable that plugs into the front of the receiver. There is a threaded insert on the bottom of the microphone so it can be mounted on a tripod for accurate listening position placement. Three listening position measurements are taken, one primary and two secondary, to optimize the surround effect for a broad area. You can also setup your speaker system manually using the receiver.

  • Speaker Size: You can set Large or Small for your front speakers; Large, Small or None for your surround, surround back, and center speakers; and Yes or No for subwoofer. You can also select 1ch or 2ch mode for the connected surround back speakers.
  • Speaker Distance: The distance from your listening position to each speaker can also be set manually. The front speaker distance can be set from 1 to 30 feet in 1-foot increments. The center and subwoofer settings can be up to 5 feet more or 5 feet less than the distance you set for the front speakers (30 feet max). The settings for the surround left, surround right, surround back left, and surround back right speakers are each individually adjustable, and they may be up to 5 feet more or 15 feet less than the distance you set for the front speakers (30 feet max).
  • Equalizer: You can adjust the receivers 5-band equalizer (63, 250, 1000, 4000, and 16000 Hz) for each speaker manually from -6 to +6dB in 1dB increments. The subwoofer's level can be adjusted at 25Hz, 40Hz, 63Hz, 100Hz, or 160Hz.
  • Speaker Levels: You can manually adjust the level of individual speakers between -12dB and +12dB; -15dB to +12dB for the subwoofer.

Adjustable Crossover: This receiver has a built-in high-pass crossover for any of the speakers set to Small. This setting is available when the subwoofer is set to Yes. The frequencies that you can choose from are 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, and 200 Hz. Frequencies lower than the set crossover point are output by the subwoofer.

Bass And Treble: You can independently adjust the Bass (50Hz) and Treble (20kHz) of the TX-SR507 from -10 to +10 dB.

Double Bass: You can enhance the bass output by activating the Double Bass function. This function allows you to feed bass frequencies to the front left and right channels and to the subwoofer. Double Bass can be set only when the subwoofer is set to On and the front speakers are set to Large.

Audyssey Dynamic EQ: Audyssey Dynamic EQ solves the problem of deteriorating sound quality as volume is decreased by taking into account human perception and room acoustics. Dynamic EQ selects the best possible frequency response and surround levels moment-by-moment as volume is changed. The result is bass response, tonal balance and surround impression that remain constant despite changes in volume. Audyssey Dynamic EQ combines information from incoming source levels with actual output sound levels in the room, a prerequisite for delivering a loudness correction solution. Audyssey Dynamic EQ works in tandem with Audyssey (2EQ, MultEQ, MultEQ XT) to provide well-balanced sound for every listener at any volume level.

CinemaFilter: Using the CinemaFilter you soften overly bright movie soundtracks. Movie soundtracks are typically mixed for a large theater (relative to your home theater) with lots of soft seats and thick curtains on the walls. Home theater settings often lack these high frequency absorbing wall treatments, making the soundtrack sound too bright. CinemaFilter accounts for this and for many movies sounds more natural at home.

Music Optimizer: The Music Optimizer function enhances the sound quality of compressed music files. The Music Optimizer function only works with PCM digital audio input signals with a sampling rate below 48kHz and analog input signals.

Late Night Feature: The Late Night feature limits the dynamic range of Dolby Digital recordings. Limiting the dynamic range makes it easier to find a volume that ensures the quiet sounds are not too quiet and the loud sounds are not too loud for night time listening. This allows you to comfortably listen to without the need to constantly adjust the volume to keep from waking family/neighbors. The choices are: Off, Low, and High.

Note: This feature only works with Dolby Digital Encoded software and the depth of the feature will vary based on the individual software package.

Audio Sync: Occasionally the audio and video signals are not properly synchronized, typically when using a progressive scanning DVD player. You can correct this by delaying the audio; options are 0 (no delay) to 100 milliseconds, in 20 millisecond steps.

IntelliVolume: With IntelliVolume, you can set the input level for each input selector individually from -12 to +12 dB in 1 dB increments.

Zone 2: In addition to the main listening room, you can also enjoy audio playback from a different source in another room of your home using the receiver's Zone 2 capabilities. Using the receiver's supplied remote control, you can adjust the volume of Zone 2 independently from the main zone. The receiver features Zone 2 speaker terminals as well as Zone 2 pre-outs.

  • Zone 2 Speaker Terminals: This setup allows you to power a set of Zone 2 speakers using the receiver's built-in amplifier. This setup allows 2.1-channel playback in your main room and 2-channel stereo playback in Zone 2, with a different source in each room.
  • Zone 2 Pre-Outs: This setup allows you to connect a set of Zone 2 speakers to the receiver using a separate amplifier to amplify the Zone 2 speakers. This setup allows continuous 5.1-channel playback in your main listening room and 2-channel stereo playback in Zone 2, with a different source in each room.

Assignable Digital Inputs: The Onkyo receiver is equipped with two optical digital inputs and two coaxial digital inputs. All four digital inputs are assignable.

Binding Post Speaker Outputs: There are color-coded binding post connectors for the left front, right front, center, left surround, right surround speakers. The binding posts are not 5-way because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs. There are spring terminals for the Zone 2 speakers.

Note: This receiver does not feature Surround Back speaker outputs.

Surround Back Pre-Out: The receiver is equipped with Surround Back preamp outputs for adding surround back speakers to your system, using a separate power amplifier, so you can enjoy 7.1ch surround.

Sleep Function: From the remote, you can set the unit to automatically turn off after as much as 90 minutes or as little as 10 minutes; choices are presented in 10 minute increments.

Video Features

HDMI (V.1.3): The TX-SR507 has four assignable HDMI v1.3 inputs and one HDMI v1.3 output for connecting DVD players, HDTV set-top boxes, and other video components to your TV or projector. The receiver's HDMI circuitry allows the receiver to output an HDMI audio signal from its speaker outputs, headphone out, and HDMI out so you don't have to run and additional analog or digital cable. The receiver uses HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), so only HDCP-compatible components can display the picture. The HDMI inputs can accept and switch 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p signals to a TV, monitor, or projector. The HDMI inputs will support uncompressed standard or high definition digital video along with the following audio signals: 2-channel linear PCM, Multichannel linear PCM, and Bitstream. Each of the HDMI inputs can be assigned to any of the four rear panel A/V inputs (DVD, VCR/DVR, CBL/SAT, TV/Tape).

xvColor: Increases detail and color space when watching movies on your television from an external device connected by HDMI through the TX-SR507.

Auto Lip Sync: The Lip Sync function can automatically synchronize HDMI audio and video that has gotten out of sync due to the complex digital video processing being performed by your HDMI-compatible TV. With HDMI Lip Sync, the audio delay required to synchronize the audio and video is calculated and applied automatically by the AV receiver.

Component Video: There are 2 component video inputs and 1 component video output. The component video inputs and outputs have a bandwidth of 5Hz to 50MHz.

Display Dimmer:The display brightness has three settings; Dim, Dimmer, and Normal.

Remote Control

Multi-brand Remote: The supplied RC-737M wireless remote is a multi-brand remote. The remote is pre-programmed to operate Onkyo components, as well as other popular brands of equipment, including DVD players, satellite receivers, cable boxes, VCRs, and televisions. The IR wireless remote control will operate up to 16-feet away from the receiver at an angle of 30-degrees left or right of the receiver as long as the remote is within the line of sight of the TX-SR507.

HDMI Control: This function allows CEC-compatible components or RIHD-compatible components connected via HDMI to be controlled with the TX-SR507. The AV receiver offers the following CEC HDMI controls.

  • Power Control: This feature allows you to link the power functions of CEC-compatible components or RIHD-compatible components connected via HDMI.
  • TV Control: This function enables you to control this AV receiver from an RIHD-compatible TV connected via HDMI.

RI Remote Control Jack: The 1/8" RI remote control jack allows you to connect this receiver to other compatible Onkyo components.

Optional Add-on Devices

iPod/iPhone Compatible: With the Onkyo UP-A1 series Dock (580UPA1, sold separately), you can play music, photo, and video stored on select Apple iPods/iPhones through the AV receiver. The UP-A1 offers charging capability and remote operability via your A/V receiver's remote controller. The UP-A1 connects to the receiver's proprietary "Universal" port.

Note: The TX-SR507 will only display iPod video from the receiver composite monitor output (480i only). It also supports Onkyo's RI-compatible DS-A3 iPod dock (580DSA3, sold separately).

HD Radio Ready: The Onkyo UP-HT1 HD Radio Module (580UPHT1, sold separately) sends high-quality digital AM/FM audio via a single proprietary cable to the Onkyo receiver's Universal Port. The same convenient cable also powers the tuner unit, saving on cable clutter. The tuner features 40 random presets for FM and AM stations. A rear-side Universal Port input gives you the option of "daisy chaining" a second compatible device, such as the UP-A1 Onkyo Dock for the iPod.
