Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent internet radio. Pandora streams without any commercials (even though I do not have an upgraded/paid Pandora account). The sound quality is pretty good given the size of the radio. Being battery powered also makes it very handy/portable. The iPod app to control the device works seamlessly and allows the radio to be remote-controlled very easily. Overall, I am very happy with this radio.

How do you use this ??

Roydk from CT on 10/30/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There is NO users manual in the box or on line, they must think if you buy this you must know how to use it. VERY POOR support and almost no idea how to use it. I have an old ILUV unit that is super simple to use, nothing like this one.

Pros: Sounds nice.

Cons: NO support, no manual, no use.

Just works!

This radio works great, sounds great, and looks great. Wonderful portability. I have been listening to Pandora non-stop since I got it. The only thing that isn't perfect to me is the volume, which comes in a little low. But as it's for personal use at home, this is not much of an issue.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This works well as long as it's the only thing trying to use WiFi. When I try and use this and my computer at the same time it drops the signal. The "manual" is pretty useless. If you want loud clear sound you won't get it from this. But for background muisc it works great.

Flakey unit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have one of the original Logitech units and thought I'd try to the "new" and improved UE models. This unit randomly stops playing and looks for a wireless connection.

Pros: Ease of use, good sound

Cons: Random wireless reconnecting.

Small box with decent sound, with so many internet radio you can add there. I listen to Pandora on it on a daily basis now. Note that for MOG, Spotify and some other service, you have to subscribe those service in order to set it up using this AE radio. Free account doesn't work:(

Pros: Solid sound performance in a small box~good internet music box

Cons: The internet radio takes a while to set up.

The Best Radio for Jazz Listeners

NateJ from Cincinnati, Oh on 10/13/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I listen to jazz most of the time. I have a HD car unit that broadcasts local jazz over the air in cd quality; but, I am limited to my car to hear my favorite form of music. Now, I have the internet to listen to any style of jazz I prefer. Being blue has made controlling music selections and volume from across the room, nice!

Pros: Unlimited selection of music to chose and listen to.

Cons: none

Great Little Radio Overall

Paul H from Alexandria, VA on 10/10/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, we've been quite pleased with this radio. It is easy to use, sounds great and has a lot of very cool features. It does however, have some limitations that prevent me from being able to give it 5 stars.

Pros: *Great sound -- The tone is very well balanced whether listening to talk, or various styles of music. *Portability -- It's light weight and fairly compact, as well as having good battery life. It's very easy to take it with you from one room to another. *Easy to use controls and menus -- the 6 radio presets might seem cheesy, but they are handy and we use them all the time. The menus are pretty intuitive. *Lots of stations world-wide to choose from.

Cons: *No support for audiophile tracks -- It'll handle FLAC (24bit/44.1khz) no problem, but some of the higher quality FLAC files are not supported. *Streaming local music is slow and kudgey -- You have to be connected to the Internet to stream local files, and if your library is sizable, it takes a *long* time to load your library. *No support for wireless N standard -- This is only an issue if you want to run your local network exclusively at N standard (something I did want to do).

Has great promise, but fails to live up. Has a "system reset" practically every day, which interrupts service. Third-party interfaces need work.

Pros: Accesses otherwise unavailable Internet radio (Spotify).

Cons: Has a "system reset" practically every day, which interrupts service. Third-party interfaces need work.

Great Sound for size

Sounds Great for such a small footprint. Very confusing in trying to setup with the internet to listen to music sites. Not a very friendly software application to get around in. You have to have a ton of patience with this item.

Pros: Great Sound for size. Also runs on its own built in rechargeable battery.

Cons: Confusing setup of internet sites not very user friendly.

Great Little Radio

Tim H. from Fort Collins, CO on 10/7/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like others, I already have a Logitech Squeezebox Radio, and really wanted to add a second one. Alas, they are discontinued, and replaced with the UE Radio, which is the same hardware with different firmware installed. When Logitech announced they were officially supporting switching the UE Radio to the Squeezebox platform, I saw the awesome sale price at Crutchfield and ordered it. The update process went smoothly, and I now have a pair of Squeezeboxes. These little guys sound great for their size, and there is an amazing amount of content from all over the world to listen to. In addition, I can stream my own audio content without having to have an internet connection. I can control it from my computer, or access the server interface from my phone over Wi-fi. I can't speak for the usability of the UE software because I never tried it. I couldn't be happier with this radio.

Pros: Small and light with surprisingly big sound. Can easily be converted to a Squeezebox and back again. It has an IR receiver, and can be operated with a universal remote. Wired or wireless connection. Most flexible alarm clock EVER.

Cons: For me, none.

The Smart Radio is a Smart Investment.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Tivoli radio in my basement woodshop was among the casualties of a lightning strike. The Tivoli had reception problems that were worst in the basement, so I steered away from FM radios and went Internet, instead. Keep in mind that the area in which the Logitech Smart Radio is located must be WiFied. The Logitech is small, solid in feel, with very good ergonomics, putting it ahead of much of the competition. The acoustics are very good with decent bass, a good midrange and clean highs, even at higher volumes. It projects very intelligible speech, a major shortcoming of the Tivoli (especially male announcers). The Logitech has a much better balance and dynamic range, and it's musical, i.e., this radio was deliberately made to sound really good. It is monophonic, which is perfectly sensible as stereo in a single enclosure table radio is a gimmick. I quickly learned the essential features of the Logitech and get stations around the world, now; love it. PS, there are all kinds of features in the Logitech that I don't care about but you might, so look more closely if you are in doubt. I defy you to find a better product at anywhere near Crutchfield's price and their service was spot on; product and vendor strongly recommended.

Just Perfect!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a wifi radio junkie since this radio was in addition to a Logitech Squeezebox Radio, a Roku M1001, and Roku Soundbridge Radio. The Squeezebox Radio was and is my favorite. So when I realized I'll soon have to replace my nearly failing Roku Soundbridge Radio, the Logitech was my first choice. But you can't find the Squeezebox Radio anymore, as it's been replaced with the Logitech UE Smart Radio. It looks identical, but works with different software and has some different features. Even though it operates slightly different out of the box, Logitech has set up a feature to switch software to the Squeezebox Radio software. So that's what I did immediately. Now both of my Logitech Radios are operating identically. Keeps things simple for me. Althought I bought this radio when it was on sale, I wouldn't have hesitated to buy or recommend this radio at the current price. I enjoy searching the world radio stations (thousands and thousands are streaming) and listening to what's going on around the world. There are lots of music services (i.e. Pandora) available, and you can also play your own music that's on your computer. I've also found lots of old-time radio stations some playing old sci-fi shows and some playing old comedy shows like Jack Benny, Amos and Andy. It's also portable with its included rechargeable battery. Get set for hours of fun!

Pros: Easy set-up, reliable, stylish, portable

Cons: I've had this radio's predecessor from Logitech for 3 1/2 years now and no cons. Don't expect any with this radio. It's just a perfect product.

Smart Radio w/some limitations

Dez from New York, NY on 10/1/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little WiFi radio is used daily since I purchased from Crutchfield. I love the ability to listen to what I want, when I want with it's thousands of stations throughout the globe. The built-in speaker is very good but I use the stereo headphone out connected to a 2.1 speaker system & it sounds great. The display shows just enough enough information of the song played, radio station ID and even displays cover art. I wish the controls were back-lit so that they can be seen in low light or in the dark. I also wish there were more Preset Memory buttons. As it is, there is 6 total but you can save several more favorites on your UE Smart Radio account. Another wish would've been a Digital Out via Coaxial and a USB port. The Android / iPhone app is generally a good idea to control your radio but it is not very intuitive, buggy and limited. I cannot access my music on my desktop even though it's on the same network and I have the UE Music Library software installed & configured. I can access my desktop's media files via the radio controls but NOT via the app. Logitech needs to fix that, as it's a widespread issue. The "Back" button on my smartphone isn't utilized properly on the app either. If Logitech fixes the limitations via firmware and software updates, I'll change my rating to 5 stars,

Pros: Great sound, WiFi, Ethernet, App-controlled, Color LCD.

Cons: The app is limited & not intuitive. Black glossy finish shows fingerprints. Doesn't exactly utilize the UE Music Library software properly via the app. Stop & than running the service may make it work or a reboot of the radio, is what I found. The app SHOULD be it's strong point. Would like the ability to manually add URL of stations and have more radio site services added to the library.

This radio has everything I wanted. I looked for some time for a radio that had preset stations and clear reception. In addition it is compact, affordable, attractive, and easily programmable. As far as my research was able to determine, there isn't another product like it for the price I paid. And for my money Crutchfield is the most trusted source to buy from. And no, I don't work for the company. I'm just a very satisfied repeat customer.

Only gave it 4 stars, because haven't used it long enough to know if it will develop some negatives, otherwise, would give it 5 stars. Has very good sound with depth. Easy to set up, and fairly easy to use, although haven't learned to use its full range of options yet. Related website of limited in help in explaining how radio can be used--I cannot find any tutorial, which the set up booklet says is on the website. And, need to go to website to utilize internet services, such as Pandora, which seems to not run ads on the smart radio. But, most of the services offered require a paid subscription.

Going beyond the transistor

Roy from Roanoke, VA on 9/13/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I first got a Squeezebox radio for a friend, so she could listen to a local sports radio station based in DC. I was so impressed with it, I bought one for me to put in my art studio. After awhile, I found I needed for one in the bedroom, so I bought a UE Smart Radio, put that in my studio, and put my Squeezebox in the bedroom. I love being able to listen to NPR stations all across the US, the BBC, plus music from jazzradio, Pandora, and so many others!

Pros: Terrific sound. Recharge battery for mobile listening. Line-In input for iPods, MP3 players. Ease of searching for stations, shows.

Cons: Logitech UE Smart Radio iPhone app not quite "there" yet!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received my radio today by UPS. First it was great doing business with Crutchfield. I had done a lot of research on Internet Radios before chosing the Logitech UE Smart Radio. From what I read in many of the reviews the sound was not that great. I do not find that to be true at all. I find it had just the right amount of base and tremble for a small radio. It sounds very good and picks up/streams with perfection. Perfect signal with not noise or breaks in the signal. I wanted a shortwave to listen to the world like I did years ago, but find this internet radio picks up more of the world than any shortwave could ever come close to. I am very pleased with my decision and would highly recomend this radio.....

Pros: A great Radio with great sound and reception.

Cons: None. Pleased with all aspects of it.

Good - could be better

Paul B from Racine, WI on 7/1/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good internet radio, however you need to purchase an app for iPod to enter individual streams that are not in the database. The older version of this, the Squeezebox, did not have this limitation. Also, I noticed the volume is really reduced when running on just the battery. Overall this is still probably the best implementation of an internet radio available.

Pros: Easy to setup, portable.

Cons: Can't add individual streams or URLs without third party iPod/iPhone app.

Pros: Good Quality with excellent performance.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sleek and easy to use, this radio sounds great and gives you access to stations you never dreamed of. It also lets you source your downloaded music from your computer. The portability and 6 hour battery charge is also a great feature.

Pros: Portability and battery charge, radio selection and sound.

Cons: In order to source your saved music from your PC, this radio requires a software download to queue those saved files. The PC also needs to be left on for the radio to see the files. I wish there was a way to source the music from my in home network, which is always on, instead of having to leave a standalone PC running.

The Logitech UE Smart Radio definitely met my expectations. It is very easy to set up, and the Android app is easy to use to switch stations among a variety of services. The sound quality is good for what I use it for, and the portability is great.

Pros: Great unit for the price and it is very easy to use.

Cons: Could use a little more bass, and it would be nice if this came with a dedicated remote control.

Nice pluses and minuses

Mr.Cello from Seattle, WA on 6/9/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this because I have the previous generation. They changed it from being dependent on having a local server to using their cloud server. There are good things and bad things about that. If you don't have a server that runs all the time, this is great it will work anyway. Problem is 1) requires internet connectivity for this to work. 2) if you want to stream your own music you need to install the server on some box anyway?

Pros: Works without installing software locally (unless you want to listen to your own music).

Cons: Because of the pro you must have internet connectivity.

Neat design and good sound. Easy to navigate and one has the world at ones fingertips, in terms of radio stations. This far exceeds any normal radio and when you have poor radio reception due to hills and mountains, such as we have in Sonoma, the internet radio is impossible to beat!

Pros: good sound quality, comapct size, quality finish

Cons: If the broadband connection is intermittent then one loses the station and sometimes it doesn't come back automatically, so one has to get up and hit the button for the particular station again.

This is a great radio. I originally purchased it for my wife but ended up keeping it and ordering her another one. Not only does it let you connect to services such as Pandora, but it scanned my hard disk and picked up all of digital songs and can play them in a random mix. Great sound, too. I originally was going to connect it to my PC speakers but found it unnecessary because of the excellent sound quality.
