Great bass from a small package

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very good little subwoofer for the size of the box, but you can definitely push it past it's limit pretty quick. If your looking for something that will shake the house go bigger, but if you're looking for something that will hide anywhere and provide great bass for movies and music at realistic volumes. This is hard to beat! Seriously - it sounds 3 times as big as it is, but when you hit the limit you will know it! Take the time to adjust the volume and sound curve (a little difficult to do with how they are located), and you will be happy with this purchase.

Room shaking power in a small package.

I bought this to replace a JBL sub-woofer that was the size of a small refridgerator. Now it can hide behind or under a chair, and provides great bass for a 20 x20 ish room. Flexibile hookup for either mini-plug or RCA plug. Why aren't there more compact subs like this?

size doesnt matter

Unreal the sound that comes out of this small unit. I installed it in a cabnet under my 50inch plasma and the sounds is just right for my room size, approximatly 22 x 20. Not saying that a larger sub would not be better I just like my equipment out of view and this fits my needs exactly. Just for referenence I have a sony 810 receiver and 4 Bose in wall speakers along with a Panasonic TH-50PZ77U plasma. Dont hesitate if you want a compact sub that has a punch.

Great small 100W sub!

Mike from Boise ID on 2/14/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put this in my Onkyo605, Mirage Unitheater, and Mirage Omnican system. It was placed inside a built-in cabinet under my TV and sounded very nice. I have a large room, and it still provided good lows. This is a great sounding speaker with good lows, but it just wasn't quite loud/strong enough to fill my large room (24x28). If I were to chain 2 or more of these together I'm sure I'd be real happy, but for that price there were other solutions that required less wireing/planning. Once I used this for a while I pulled out the Polk PSW111, and found the Polk to be a better solution. It's not a fair comparison since the Polk is 150W. I wouldn't think twice about this speaker if you have a small to med room and have space issues or want a sub you never see. Great sound and a great solution!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfectly suited for music and movies without sounding boomy, I guess that the passive radiators have a lot to do with this. just make sure that you place it in a corner if you want it to sound loud enough or else you might be dissapointed. I used it for my new year's party with a pair of Bose 301's and the bass notes were punchy and rich! It's hard to believe that such a small enclosure sounds so big. If I were to be choosy; I would say that it could be louder, but what more can you expect from such a tiny sub.

I wanted a subwoofer, so that I might add depth to my digital music files - a fairly subtle application. The Soundmatters SUBstage has provided the warmth I was looking for. The design is perfect for a bookshelf or inside a cabinet. Highly reccomend this product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing is amazing. When I first pluged it in I thought it sucked. I thought what are these other reviews talking about? I hardly got any bass from this thing. I had just got all my audio equipment so nothing was set up correct. I went in to my reciver menu and tweeked the sub levels. WOW did this thing come alive. At first I turned the sub output level on the receiver all the way up to see what this sub could do. The sub was hitting so hard the whole thing was moving around the floor. I had to turn the sub output down to watch movies. The first movie this sub seen was Transporter, it was great wit all the fight scenes, car chases and explosioins. I have it paired up with a Sony STR-DG910 reciver and in ceiling home acustics surround. I got it placed behind the couch where it's not noticable. If I ever needed another sub I'd most likely get one of these. I would recommend this to a friend!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like the others who reviewed this sub, I was worried it wouldn't have the performance I desired. I was wrong. It adds the kick and a richness to my system I was looking for. The small size is a huge plus as it gives you so many options for placement. The doc's even suggest you could mount it on the wall but I wouldn't want to be in the adjoining room (THUMP! THUMP!). I have it paired with a Denon 1705 AV receiver and Polk RTi6's for use in a 2nd TV room. I plan on building a full surround system as budget allows and this Substage will be an integral part. And Crutchfield is great as always!!

I was skeptical at first. Seems too small to have a good output. I was wrong. this thing shakes the floor.

I may add a second unit in the near future.

I don't know why no one else has a unit like this.

These are mated with the Pol Rti4 and Csi3 center.
great setup for under $900 total.

Very impressive!

Rodney from Lewisburg, PA on 6/4/2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a pleasant surprise! I really wasn't expecting much from the SUBstage low-profile subwoofer, but I have been extremely pleased with its performance to date. It provides plenty of room-thumping bass for a terrific surround sound experience, but it's small enough to be easily tucked into a corner or hidden under some furniture. I purchased it with the intention of hiding it out of sight, but it's so tidy and inoffensive in its appearance that there's really no reason to conceal it. I highly recommend this sub to anybody looking for impressive bass in a more discreet package.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was anticipating sending this back before I received it just because i didn't believe it was going to sound all that great. I was pleasantly surprised when I hooked it up.

I have it hooked up to our main system in the living room. The room is open to the kitchen and dining room which makes one total area that I'm guessing is at least 24' x 24'. The sub stage sounds incredible in this size area.

I haven't hooked up the DVD player yet so I can't tell you how it's going to sound with movies but I can tell you it does play nice with rock music from very low to very high volume.

If you're looking for a very wife friendly sub, this is it. I hid it under the entertainment system. Honestly I don't think she knows it's even there. I'm waiting to see how long it takes for her to figure it out.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This subwoofer is sweet. It is compact, inconspicuous, and kicks out bass. I bought it to use with my Sonos system, and it was very easy to connect. It made an immense difference in the quality of sound. I recently also bought a Polk powered subwoofer that is placed in my livingroom. I wish I would have known about the SUBstage sooner because this one can be easily hidden anywhere.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm using this along with a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 30 bookshelf speakers. I had a little problem at first with the sub turning itself off, which was resolved by setting the sub out level on the receiver higher so that the sub picked up that there was signal. Since fixing that, I'm very happy... very small package with great sound, can hide it anywhere.

Features

Overview: The single 6" subwoofer is a patented neodymium/sandwiched stainless steel design and fires upward. It is supplemented by two down firing radiators Soundmatters describes as a moving wall. The radiators are 6 inches square and are steel coated with rubber.

Linear Magnetic Drive Technology: The speaker in the SUBstage 100 uses patented Linear Magnetic Drive technology and ultra-powerful neodymium-sandwich magnets that allow them to go deeper, play louder and cleaner than otherwise possible.

Low-pass Crossover: The crossover control allows you to adjust the upper limit of the subwoofer's frequency response from 50 to 200 Hz. The crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Phase Adjustment: The remote control allows you to adjust the phase of the subwoofer's output signal from 0° to 18 to optimize the sub's performance, given it's location and your listening position.

EQ: There is a +3dB boost centered at 70 Hz.

Auto Turn-on Function: The subwoofer will turn itself on automatically when an audio signal is present. If no signal is present, the unit will switch to standby mode.

Placement: Given its small size, the SUBstage 100 offers great placement flexibility. It can also be wall mounted with an optional bracket available from Soundmatters.

Multiple Subs: Using the input/output jacks on the bottom of the sub, you can easily daisy-chain multiple subs together to achieve louder bass levels or compensate for room acoustics.

Adjustable Feet: The four feet are adjustable to level the sub.

Controls

 • Level: rotary dial on the bottom of the sub
 • Crossover Point: continuously variable from 50-200 Hz
 • Phase: continuously variable from 0° to 180°
 • EQ: on/off
 • Power: when the master power switch is off the signal sensing auto turn-on circuit is disabled

Input and Output Notes

RCA: The single RCA jack can be used as an input or and output.

Mini-jack: The single 3.5mm mini-jack can be used as an input or and output.
