Viper Responder One (Model 4203V)
Remote start/keyless entry system with 2-way remotes
Our take on the Viper Responder One (Model 4203V) by Crutchfield's Buck Pomerantz
We offer vehicle-specific interfaces and harnesses that you may need to complete your remote start installation. Please identify your vehicle as we review every order to make sure you've got everything you need.
Start your engine remotely, then get confirmation it's running
You can start your car from up to 2000 feet away — that's well over a quarter mile — with Viper's Model 4203V remote start system. Just push the button on the keychain remote, and your car will be warmed or cooled just to your liking when you get to it. Each 2-way remote features an LED that lights up to confirm that your engine has started. The Model 4203V system is also compatible with any Viper SmartStart module, which allows you to start your car via your smartphone with no limit to the range.
Push to start and keyless entry vehicles
The Model 4203V system works well with push to start (PTS) vehicles and those with keyless entry systems that use the head of the key as a transmitter. The factory keyless entry systems in many vehicles won't work after the car's been remotely started, so the 4203V includes an unlock feature to bypass that situation. You'll hardly notice the 4203V's compact remote on your keychain, but you'll really appreciate the security that this easy-to-use one-button remote will bring to your lifestyle.
We offer a databus interface module that can save you lots of time when you install a Viper remote start system in most vehicles. Chat or call us at 1-888-955-6000 to see if the interface will work with your vehicle.

Overview: The Viper Responder One 2-way Remote Start and Keyless Entry system (Model 4203) can start your car and run it by remote control from a distance of up to 2000 feet for a preset amount of time. It will also function as a keyless entry system, but only after the vehicle is remotely started via the transmitter. The Model 4203 does not provide car security.
Note: The remote start function is for fuel injected, diesel, or hybrid vehicles only.
One-button Remotes: The Model 4203 includes two 1-button transmitters (7211V) with 2-way operation. The single button controls all of the functions of the system, including starting the vehicle, and unlocking the doors. The 7211V remotes are powered by two CR2016 batteries (installed).
Responder One: This Responder One system offers one-button remote start with a range of up to 2000 feet. The 2-way system provides confirmation back to the remote's LED, so you will know the status of your vehicle.
SuperCode: The system includes SuperCode technology for a more secure operation. The system's signal encryption protocol is based on software, which is superior to the hardware-based Clone Safe Code-Hopping found in other models. SuperCode technology also lets you control the operations of two cars by a single, one-button remote.
D2D Port: The Model 4203's control module has a D2D port that will allow you to plug in an XpressKit vehicle interface. XpressKit interfaces are vehicle-specific, and can greatly reduce installation time by interfacing with your vehicle's factory wiring. Check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to see if an XpressKit interface is available for your vehicle.
Car Finder: If you're having difficulty finding your vehicle in a crowded parking lot, the car finder function will cause the lights to flash 5 times slowly, allowing you to locate your vehicle.
Panic Mode: If you are threatened in or near your vehicle, you can attract attention by triggering the system with your remote. Panic mode requires the horn honk circuit to be connected.
SmartStart Compatible: The optional Viper SmartStart module lets you start, control, or locate your car from virtually anywhere with your smartphone. Available SmartStart modules include the VSM200, VSM250 (with GPS), and VSM50BT (with Bluetooth).
Remote Starting: Pressing the transmitter button on the remote for a second will remotely start the vehicle and run it for 12 minutes. You can extend the run time to 24 or 60 minutes. If you wish to pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle, you must preset the climate controls prior to starting the vehicle. When you are ready to drive the remotely-started vehicle, insert the ignition key, turn it to the On position (not Start), and press the brake pedal.
Crank Time: If the unit is programmed for no engine checking or voltage sense, the crank time must be set to the appropriate duration. The default setting is 0.6 seconds. It can be lengthened to 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, or 4.0 seconds.
Diesel "Wait To Start" Timer: If you have a diesel vehicle, you can set the starter to delay by a few seconds before engaging. The "wait-to-start" duration can be set to 15, 30, or 45 seconds. Gasoline engines will start approximately 4 seconds after the system acknowledges the start command by flashing the parking lights.
Valet Takeover: This feature allows the vehicle to remain running after the key has been removed from the ignition. This is useful for those occasions when you wish to exit and lock the vehicle for short periods of time while leaving the motor running and the climate controls on.
Automatic Shut-down/Starter Lockout: After the vehicle is remote-started, the remote starter will shut down when the brake pedal is pressed, the hood is opened, if the run time expires, or when the remote start command is sent again from a remote control. In addition, if the hood is opened or if the brake pedal is pressed, you cannot start the vehicle using the remote starter.
Anti-grind Circuitry: Whenever the vehicle is started using the remote, advanced anti-grind circuitry prevents the starter from being engaged using the key. (In other words, it won't let you try to start the car with the key if the remote starter has already been engaged.) This prevents damage to the starter motor. The optional Failsafe Starter Kill relay must be installed in order for the anti-grind circuitry to work.
Shutdown Switch: You can temporarily disable the remote start unit to prevent the vehicle from being remote started accidentally by switching the supplied neutral safety toggle switch to the Off position.
Unlocking The Vehicle: The Model 4203 will remotely unlock the vehicle's doors only after the engine has been remotely started via the transmitter. The system can be programmed to lock and unlock the doors as the ignition it turned on or off. If connected and programmed, the power doors will lock three seconds after the ignition is turned on, and unlock when the ignition is turned off. The lock and unlock functions are separately programmed.
Note: When interfacing with any other type of factory door lock system besides negative switching locks, or when adding aftermarket actuators, two relays (such as two 120E5000s) or a door lock module (607451M) will be required. If your vehicle requires the use of a Data Integration module that controls your factory door locks, no extra parts besides the Data Integration module will be required.
