Overview

Our take on the SIRIUS Sportster Replay

Sports fans, the SIRIUS Sportster Replay plug-and-play satellite radio was made just for you. Like all plug-and-play radios, it's easy to transport from place to place (with the help of accessories), so you can listen to SIRIUS at home, in the car on the way to the game, and at the tailgate party. And besides its delivery of all SIRIUS programming, it has some great features that'll enhance coverage of your favorite teams.

SIRIUS broadcasts every NFL game all season long. To make sure you stay on top of all the action, you can program Sportster Replay's Game Alert function to let you know when your favorite NFL team is about to take the field. You can even choose whether you want to listen to the home or away announcers. There's also a scrolling ticker that lets you follow the scores in the rest of the league.

Here's a feature you'll love: the Replay automatically records the last 44 minutes of the channel you're listening to. Want your own replay of a dramatic touchdown? Just hit rewind. You can also pause live action, which is perfect for those times when that pesky cell phone rings while your team is driving to score late in the fourth quarter — you won't miss any of the action. The 44-minute memory is cleared every time you change the channel or turn the Sportster off.

The Replay also has a Jump button on the front panel that lets you skip directly to a single station you've saved. If you're driving to a game in one of the 20 metropolitan areas covered by SIRIUS, you can jump right to your local traffic and weather channel to get traffic updates. A built-in alarm clock can help make sure you get up for the game on time.

This package includes the car accessories you'll need to play the radio over your vehicle's in-dash stereo. The docking station, which holds the Replay in your car, features a suction-cup mount that'll attach to any reasonably flat glass surface. A DC power (cigarette lighter) adapter and a roof-mount antenna round out the package.

The Sportster Replay also has a built-in FM transmitter so you can broadcast straight to your vehicle's FM stereo — you won't have to make a wired connection. A remote control is also included, so your passengers can switch channels while you drive. You can also get the home kit, which includes a SIRIUS home antenna, docking station, and power supply — it allows you to transfer the Sportster Replay between your car and your home stereos and only pay one subscription. You can get extra car kits for convenient multi-car use, and a portable boombox is also available.

Note: A subscription to SIRIUS is also required. Satellite radio service is available only within the lower 48 states — not available in Hawaii or U.S. territories. Limited service is available in Alaska.

SIRIUS Sportster Replay

James from Murray, KY on 11/28/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Would have given this product 5*'s however, I feel that the built-in wireless FM modulator is weak. Everything else about this product is great. I recommend if you decide to purchase this product, go ahead and purchase the wired fm relay. You'll be glad you did. With it, you get perfect quality sound with no annoying static. Sirius should include the wired relay with every Sportster Replay (and other models based on other reviews), even if it raises the price a little.

Worked great at first.

Brian from Sheboygan, WI on 11/21/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have 2 cars. I like to move it from on car to the other depending on which one I am driving. I bought this new one for that reason. I had a Clarion model but I could no longer find a car kit for my 2nd car. So I thought when I buy this new model I would buy the boom box and home kit also since with these Sirius radios parts don't stay out very long. What a mistake. Now the radio does not work good and I am stuck with this other equipment I can not use if I go back to my old Clarion. I loved the unit when I first got it. It still does work ok. However, about 6 months into owning the unit, the display no longer illuminates. So forget reading the display at night. I tried to get it exchanged from Crutchfield but it was over the time they would take it back. I contacted the manufacturer since it had a 1 year warranty and it was something like $10-$20 to have it repaired. Also the manufacture did not guarantee when the item would be returned. Plus the fee of the subscription not being used while its out for service added up. I never did send it in. I still use it with no display.

Disappointed

Edward from Newark, DE on 11/19/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit has been a major disapointment for me. The first one stopped working entirely after three months.<BR>The wireless transmitter function did not work at all on the second unit and barely works on what is now my third unit. I happen to also have XM radio's "Sky Fi 2" which also employs a wireless transmitter and works flawlessly. If you're looking for a reliable performer don't buy this.

Perfect for Commuters- Sirius is the way to go!

Olive from Seattle, WA on 6/28/2006

I've had my Sportster Replay since Christmas '05 and I totally love it! I get a warning notice anytime my team is playing and I can jump to traffic and weather with the push of a button. The FM transmitter works great - especially when I put the antenna down (which is no problem considering that I never listen to FM radio anymore). Installation is a snap! It took me 15 minutes and the only tool needed was a popsicle stick to push the wires behind the weather strip in my car. I got the boombox so I could listen at work too; It works great and sounds really good.

I had my doubts, but ...., Great little unit

larry from Owings Mills, MD on 6/20/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read about the Sportster and all the reviews. I had my doubts, but what a great purchase. I received the unit in one day. (Thx Crutchfield) I had the unit hardwired and thanks to a product review, I purchased the FM modulator also. It's installed in a 350Z. The unit is mounted out of the way, thanks to its size. The glass mount works well, it sounds great and is feature rich. It's a very worthwhile purchase.

SIRIUS Sportster Replay

adelg670 from Orange County , New York on 6/19/2006

After talking to several friends and reading reviews , I decided to take the plunge and buy the Sportster and jump in with both feet with the annual plan. I should have jumped on this from day one. what an excellent satilite unit and very easy to operate. I drive a Marauder and it came with the standard window antenna , so as some of you know the reception is borderline bad to horrible so instead of mounting an external antenna , I went with Satilite Radio and for those that are still on the fence , well come on down , buy it , join us , and enjoy yourself. *On a side note- I want to thank Crutchfield for an excellent product and excellent instructions that allowed me to do the install myself and save me over one hundred and fifty dollars in installation cost. You guys are on my list as a steady customer...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been using my Sportster for 2 weeks now and have been satisfied with it. I have the Boombox in my office and it works great. The power cord for the car kit should be a bit longer. The antenna cord is plenty long. The windshield suction mount works like a champ. The unit itself has a nice large display. It takes a while to get to know all of its feature, without reading the instructions ;) Did a lot of research before going with the sportster and have been satisfied with my decision. Thank you crutchfield for the competitive pricing and super fast shipping. I swear by Crutchfield. Why shop elsewhere when there's crutchfield.

Static resolution

Terry from Atlantic City, NJ on 5/7/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Some may get this activated for their car, and hear an AM static-like response as you travel. This will happen if you have a factory analog receiver. The lame solution is to change to another station on your factory receiver to put the satellite signal through. Well, who wants to put up with that?? The real solution is to have a digital, after-market receiver. Most people don't know that- not even some sales people. So you return the radio in frustration, not knowing there was a simple, albeit somewhat costly, solution. I liked my factory Toyota CD head unit, but when I switched it out for something else and tried the Sportster again, there were no problems.

Sporster Review

Rob, Long Island from Long Island , NY on 4/30/2006

Overall I'm very happy with Sirius Radio and the Sportster. It has a large screen for easy viewing which I like. I also like the suction cup mount which seems to work fine althoough I have heard different. My only suggestion to whoever buys the sportster or any other sirius radio for that matter would be to have it installed and also have it "Hard Wired" to your car otherwise it looks sloppy in your car. I first installed it myself...worked great but looked bad. The next day I had it hard wired for a small price and it's so worth it.

Cons:

Great product.

INTERAVE from Brooklyn, NY on 4/3/2006

When I first heard that there was going to be "Pay for Radio" I was so disgusted. Then when Howard Stern decided to go to Satellite, I was even more disgusted. I promised myself I wouldnt ever pay for Radio as long as I live! That is until, my girlfriend bought me the Sportster Replay. I cant turn this thing off!!! I listen to Howard in the morning or on his afternoon replay! I bought the Boombox for my girlfriend and we listen to the 80's station while we are on our computer. I installed the car kit in minutes. The signal I get in Brooklyn is awesome!! My car radio picked up the Sirius signal automatically which surprised the heck out of me! The only problem I have is the Suction cup. It keeps falling off the glass. I am afraid it will damage my unit. <BR>I just wish the installation manual as well as the Sportster Replay manual was more consice and detailed. You will need to play with all the buttons and features in order to understand how to operate the unit.<BR>All in all I am hooked on Sirius and kiss my girlfriend everytime I turn it on!<BR>

Pros:

Cons:

Entertaining, but...

Eric from McAlester, OK on 3/1/2006

If you travel in areas without many (or any!) radio stations, Sirius is a good alternative. The Sportster seems to include many nice features, although it is a little larger than I had expected. The suction cup base unit (oddly enough, required to make the Sportster work) is surprisingly stout. Unfortunately, right out of the box, you also get a fiddly-looking bunch of wires to set on your dash. Another surprise was that the satellite antenna (a magnetic disk) is quite picky about reception unless it is stuck on the metal body of the car--even if it's on the dash of the car. I do not yet have it hard-wired to my radio, but the sound quality using the FM transmitter is underwhelming. The little remote, which I laughed at as extraneous upon purchase, is actually quite handy. Mounted to the windshield, the Sportster's needlessly small buttons are too far to reach and discern unless you are of ape-like physical proportions. All in all, I like it, but I will definitely try to buy an OEM version for my next car. The conspicuousness (affixed to my windshield) and multiple wires running everywhere are not too pleasing to my eye and seem to scream "please cut this convertible's top and steal me".

Cons:

Sirius audio

LINDA from Livonia,MI on 2/21/2006

My audio goes out all the time, just enough to annoy. It's more the service than the eqpt. Sirius also really needs to start updated their play lists instead of playing the same songs over and over again.

Beware and Be Careful

James from St. Louis, Missouri on 2/5/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got the Stortster Reply before Christmas. The funtions are great but it has one major problem. The plastic face of the unit is EXTREMELY soft and scratches way too easily. I put the unit in my empty coat pocket and the fabric scuffed it all up. Crutchfield was great about it and gave me a new one and I've really been babying it, but I'm starting to see a few scratches already. No way this thing will last. Wake up Sirius.

Exceptional

Brian from Fall River, MA on 1/19/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

With the vehicle specific guides from Crutchfield, I was able to install my Sirius Sportster in my 2001 Jeep grand Cherokee in about 45 minutes. Unfortunately, with the factory Infinity CD - Cassette - CD Changer Stereo, I was not able to locate an auxiliary output to connect directly to the Sportster. I am currently using the FM Modualtor, which sounds great, but could sound better if I had the direct connection instead. I plan on eventually purchasing the vehicle specific mount for a clean appearance. Overal I am very satisfied with my purchase, and would buy from Crutchfield again. As far as the Sportster goes, I believe it is the best plug and play satellite radio out there, by far.

Very Pleased!

Jamie from Pollock, Louisiana on 1/19/2006

The Sportster Replay is great! I received it for christmas as a gift from my wife. Sirius rocks I don't believe I will ever listen to FM again! I received the wired FM modulator relay a couple of week's later(from crutchfield), and I must say a well spent 20 bucks. It was a great improvement on sound quality. The unit was very easy to install and very user friendly. I recommend both product's, the sportster and the FM relay. And as always crutchfield's service was excellent!

Bruce from SE Pennsylvania on 1/17/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unit is easy to operate and has tons of features. Crutchfield got the unit to me in only 3 days...impressive especially since at the end of December 2005, it was impossible to locate a Sportster Replay at any store.<BR><BR>Only problem...each button has it own individual light that illuminates at night. Within the first week, one of the bulbs burned-out. Yesterday I noticed another bulb out...and I just looked at the unit a few minutes ago...yep...a third light burnt-out. Very annoying. I've read other reviews where this is a problem so returning the unit and getting another seems like a waste of time....guess I'm stuck with a radio that will be dark in a few months......

Eric from Yardley, PA on 1/16/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had my Sportster for two weeks and love it. Reception, audio quality, functionality, and ease of use are all great, but what has really suprised me is the quality of programming that Sirius offers. There is ALWAYS something good on.<BR><BR>Crutchfield's service was awesome. I got mine a week after X-mas, when almost all other retailers had none in stock. The shipping was understandibly delayed for a few days by the huge rush of orders, but customer service was readily available and helpful.<BR><BR>The only problem I've experienced is audible static when I'm driving right next to another vehicle that has a Sirius reciever. That can probably be remedied by using a hardwire connection rather than the FM output, which will require a trip to the VW dealer.<BR><BR>Definately recommended.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My wife got me a Sportster as an early x-mas present and I love it.. <BR><BR>However, 5-6 of the lights for the buttons are now completely dark and others are starting to go dark as well. <BR><BR>Crutchfield to the rescue! I called crutchfield and both the customer service and support were fantastic, not a single problem at all! They asked a couple of questions about the unit and told me that they would swap it for a new one as soon as they have them back in stock. <BR><BR>This was my first experience with Crutchfield, and I'm happy to say that they now have a customer for life..

SIRIUS Sportster Replay

Robert from Franklinville, NJ on 1/14/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this radio! Instalation in my Honda Accord was a snap. Its hard wired to my new pioneer reciever/CD player (via the supplied connector from crutchfield). The unit is so simple and well designed it barely requires you to look at the manual. The suctioncup windshield mount is so versatile you can mount it in a way that lets you keep your eyes on the road without compromising any visabillity. The display is large enough to be easily read from the back seat. The remote itself deserves a design award. I honestly cant think of any way to improve this units design or function. Highly recommend this unit AND Crutchfield

Great!!

Alex from Cleveland, OH on 1/14/2006

Got the sportster replay for Christmas and I love it! While my original car docking kit was defective, Crutchfield was very helpful and readily sent me a replacement, which works great. I got Sirius to listen to Stern, but have found that there is also a wealth of excellent music channels to which I can also listen.

Great Surprise for Christmas!

Carol from North Wildwood, NJ on 1/7/2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit as a gift for my son-in-law for Christmas and he absolutely loves it - he looks for reasons to drive around more! But the best thing was my kids surprised me and bought this unit for me for Christmas along with the Boom Box and a year's subscription to Sirius! I didn't think that I would use it that much, but it was soooo easy to install in the car, the boombox is great AND a big plus is that I can get it on my computer when in work! I listen during work, on my ride home and in my house - can't wait for summer to have it out on the deck. Very good recepiton in the car, use it through FM receiver. And lastly, many, many thanks to Crutchfield for their customer service and great information. They package their products with detail instructions which help so much more than the instructions that come with the units. The customer service is the best around and they were one of the few places that actually had the unit at Christmas for delivery in time for the holiday. You have a customer for life!

I received one from my wife for X-mas so I could listen to Howard and can't believe how cool it is!!You will never listen to regular radio again!!The artist and song title display are cool as well as the selection of music! Unit is very user friendly too, nice large display(easy to read), nice size buttons, and feels like good quality materials. Could not be happier and now my wife is hooked too!!Also a perfect transaction as usual from Scooter at Crutchfield!!Stop reading and buy one!!

For me, it was okay.

drchipinski from Browns Town, Ohio on 12/29/2005

I am a BIG Howard fan so I deceided to take the plunge and buy Sirius and the Replay model. I also purchased the home unit.<BR><BR>I activated the unit via the internet, and only had to call once to have them re-send the signal. I found that the home unit was a waste for me unless I wanted to have it wired through my house onto my roof! <BR><BR>After installing it (plugging it in to my cigarette adapter and putting the antenna out of my roof I started to listed away.<BR><BR>It took a while for the channels to come in, and for whatever reason, every time the unit was turned off, I would lose all the channels and would have to wait for a few minutes until the information was sent back to the unit! (I was told this was NOT normal)<BR><BR>Besides the annoyance of losing my information every time, the sound was poor and I had to crank the unit's volume much higher than normal. I also noticed it had a lot of static. <BR><BR>I have since returned the unit and purchaed the star unit and had it installed. It is 10000000000 times better.<BR><BR>Pros:<BR><BR>HUGE screen<BR><BR><BR>Cons:<BR><BR>REALLY large unit hard to fit anywhere.<BR>Static.<BR>Poor connection quality.

Overall--a great product

Andrew from Newton NJ on 12/29/2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very pleased with the Sportster after the first few days. I installed in my 2004 Toyota Rav 4 in about 45 minutes total. Fortunately, a vehicle specific mount was available for my vehicle and it makes the installation look very professional. I'm using the unit with it's built in FM transmitter, and so far have no problems with static or interference. The music channels sound great, and the variety to choose from is unbelievable. Talk channels have a bit of a tinny sound, almost like some reverb is on, or your listening to someone who is using a speakerphone. I am able to adjust for the sound quality a it using the radios's bass, treble, etc. I can't make it perfect, but I can make it very acceptable. I love the fact that I can still use my Toyota's steering wheel controls to adjust volume, etc. All in all, I'm very happy I purchased this item. As a long time Crutchfield customer, who has purchased many a car stereo for many a car, I knew I could not go wrong buying from them again.

Nice unit poor sound quality from Sirius

Charles from Boston, Ma on 12/26/2005

This is a great litle unit do not get me wrong. The problem lies in the Sirius service itself. If you are a fan of good quality sound you are going to be upset. The sound that Sirius broadcasts is no where near CD quality. It is at best 30kbps and sounds just a like a streaming internet radio station. This is something I wish I knew in advance, I would have waited for the technology to improve before I purchased.

Knobs are good

seators from North Shore, MA on 12/25/2005

I picked this radio as I expect to move it between my house, car, and boat. Here are my comments on the device after week one.<BR><BR>Overall I think this unit is great. Its a bit bigger than a pack of cigarettes and about the weight of a decent pda. It feels solid. Activation was a breeze online so long as you either run back n forth between your car and home pc, have a wireless connection and sit outside with your laptop, or purchase the home unit kit. Otherwise, if you choose to do it over the phone its an extra 5 bucks.<BR>Once activated I began the hardest part... finding where to mount it. Though I wanted it somewhere down by the shift, its size made this impossible. Its small, but not as small as the others my friends purchased. I ended up mounting it on the dash in the left corner. Its fine here and not too distracting. The display is easy to read and bright at night and would cause me to "read" too much if it was mounted anyplace else. The memory buttons are nice, but you will find yourself using the knob (knobs are good) for at least the first week as you tour the selection of stations.<BR>Sound quality is ok. I wouldnt say CD quality or the same as broadcast radio... but its ok. Music is best. Voice is a bit tinny (ss and chs), like streaming music online.<BR>You have to make some sacrifice for portability at this point in the satellite game.<BR>I found it silly that the antenna is pretty much a permanant mount (due to the hassle of running it under things) but the power cord was for the cig adapter. A perm mount AC cord one would be nicer. And for the money they should have included the RCA cord.<BR>Buy it again? Yes. Have i used the rewind ye

Great Unit

North View from Atlanta, GA on 11/16/2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have bought several plug-n-play Sirius units from Crutchfield including the Starmate, Sanyo & Xact. I have returned the Sanyo & Xact units due to not liking their layout & features. However, I did like the Starmate so it was what helped me decide to buy this Sportster Replay since I believe its the same company. <BR><BR>Let me first say that so far it has been an excellent unit. I bought it mainly for the rewind/pause feature & that has worked flawlessly. It claims to have about 44mins of memory, but I have experienced even more at times. Up to 90mins in paused mode. Also, the display is nice & big and easier to read than the Starmate units I have. It comes with the car kit, but I also got the home kit and both docking units are great. No need to keep having to plug and unplug wires (antenna, power cord, etc.) from the direct unit like the Starmate requires. Instead they stay connected to the cradles. Simply slide the receiver unit in & out each time. It can even be locked if desired, but isnt totally neccessary. <BR><BR>Also, while it offers a lot of memory channels (30) like other units, 10 of them are immediately accessible from the front panel of the unit. Others are around 5 or 6. This can help minimize hitting more buttons to gain access to other channels while driving & therefore be safer on the road. <BR><BR>Another benefit of this unit I have found is that the FM transmitter works better & is stronger than other units. I live outside the Atlanta area & when I travel closer to downtown with my Starmate, I would frequently experience static interference. Not with this Replay unit though. Overall, I highly recommend this unit for any SIRIUS fan (no pun intended).

This radio is awesome,I Love It. It was so easy to install and looks pretty cool too. I bought this just because of Howard Stern. But now I am in love with the huge selection of uncensored music and comedy. The pause and rewind features are cool too. I can't say enough how happy I am that I bought this. No problems or complaints at all. I bought one for my wife and she loves it too. I would definatly reccomend this to anyone who loves music and talk radio. Can't wait for Howard Stern in January

Like it so far

Kathleen from Baltimore, MD on 11/3/2005

I was given the sportster as a gift and I really enjoy it! The screen is easy to read, navigation is straightforward and the sound quality is great! I like all the options the system has. I gave the sportster a 4 instead of a 5 because I felt that the installation instructions for the car were a little vague and it took a little while to understand how to optimize the signal with the antenna. Despite that, I think it's a great purchase! I was pleasantly suprised by the unit.

Excellent Plug 'n Play 2nd Generation Sirius Receiver

SofTech from Northeast on 10/20/2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit to replace my first-generation receiver and I'm very pleased with its design and performance. <BR><BR>Pros: <BR>The direct tuning capability on the unit and the remote is absolutely essential and works flawlessly. The display is excellent, and the suction-mount is the best I've encountered. The layout of all the controls on both the receiver and the remote is logical and easy to use. The 44-minute replay feature is a nice plus and fairly straighforward to use. Most importantly, reception on this unit is far superior to my other one. I don't know if the antenna is better or something else was improved, but in areas where my former unit would drop out every 5 seconds, this one hardly hiccups at all. <BR><BR>Cons: <BR>The remote is a bit on the small side. The display adjustment has no real discernable effect, and although the manual states you can change the background color, you can not. The home kit is a separate $50 accessory, whereas it was included with my first-generation kit.<BR>The replay mnemory is erased if you change channels.<BR><BR>Overall, I believe this is the best choice out of the many units available. Hopefully, the 3rd generation will address the shortcomings I listed above, but with the excellent Sirius programming, who can wait?<BR><BR>Crutchfield's excellent customer support and free shipping (both ways, if necessary) were the icing on the cake.

Good deal for the money...

Carlos from Coral Springs, FL on 9/14/2005

I recently bought this and found it to be a very good deal for what you get and the features. I've had Sirius in the past as a in-dash unit, however I sold the radio and later picked up an in-dash unit with XM radio. This was the biggest mistake ever. Sirius is the best. I now have this plug and play unit and it's great. It's full of features. I did find that I hear very light static in the background. I am going to try installing the small FM antenna that comes with the unit to help with the transmission. I would recommend this unit over others and is a great value for the money.

Display Issues...Beware!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have noticed that most satellite receivers get very hot during use, especially when in a hot car. I have never heard friends/family complain of this heat causing issues with other Sirius receivers. I purchased the sportster replay and most times when it sat in a hot car for a few hours(even in the shade), the display got distorted. The contrast got very weak and you could see vertical bars along the entire display. Sometimes you couldn't even see words. Crutchfield was awesome in swapping it out for another replay unit but I had a similar problem with the new unit. Came out from work on a hot day and the entire display was BLUE with no black contrast. After holding it up to the cold A/C for about 5 mins, I could barely read the text. This appears to be a design flaw as I had issues with two units. When working, the blue display is sometimes hard to read in normal sunlight (compared to orange or green displays). Any glare and you will be squinting to read it. Too bad :-( I really liked the unit otherwise.

If you're Sirius about satellite radio, pick this unit up

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow! This is honestly one of the best buys I've ever made for my car. I was skeptical at first, so I only signed up for one month through Sirius, and kept all the packaging in-case I was going to return the unit. To say that I was impressed is an understatement. I was sold in the first five minutes. The display is great, features are solid, and the FM transmitter, one of the major things I was worried about, exceeded my expectations. Rock solid transmission. I also purchased the boombox, it too was worth every penny. Everyone I show this to is sold on it. A great buy especially if you're like me and can't stand FM commercials and station I.D. breaks after every song. Can't wait to try out the sports functions. I now look for reasons to drive around in my car. Pick this up, you won't be sorry.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Sportster Replay Rocks , Easy to use , The blue back lighting easy on eyes not distracting in vehicle , and mine sits on dash of my wrangler.Have the boom box and also a great product. I read articles about the receiver getting hot this does get kinda warm but not what you think just warm feeling after been playing a while. The mounting of bracket in my vehicle for receiver and hook up of wires a breese had all done in 20 minutes. I highly recommend this product and now as far as Crutchfield goes this company is also highly recommended, they are fast ,prompt, real friendly and helpful , And will be checked out first before buying from anyone else . You All Are GREAT !!!!!!

GREAT UNIT!

mvallejo21 from Lincoln, NE on 6/29/2005

I had a America unit that was horrible! The FM transmitter was poor, and signal reception was poor at best. Thanks to Crutchfield I was given full credit which I applied to the Sportster Replay. WHAT A GREAT UNIT! I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a cool looking, user friendly, and all out great radio! I was doubtful about the suction-cup mount, but this thing is perfect. I have a 2002 Ford Escape and have the antenna mounted on the roof. The antenna has a very strong magnet that doesn't move at all even after going through a car wash. If you want a great product that's easy to use this is it! I recommend getting the boombox for this also, it sounds and looks really good!

SIRIUS Sportster Replay

Fred from Atlantic City, NJ on 6/15/2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Sportster IR is what it is advertised to be. The one problem is the display. While I prefer the blue backlighting, it is subject to extreme "washout" if the unit is mounted in a location whereat any sunlight shines in. The first Sportster allowed a selection of either green or amber backlighting. The Amber shone through even if sunlight was shining on the screen.<BR><BR>The remote with the IR works far better than the one included with the original Sportster. But it is my fondest hope that some entrepreneur will develop an aftermarket remote that is larger and has illuminated buttons.<BR><BR>Last, kudos to Crutchfield for beginning to sell this product on June 10 as promised. And the standard delivery got it to me in one business day.<BR><BR>It's a good unit and I endorse it wholeheartedly!

Receiver Features

SIRIUS Satellite Radio: SIRIUS Satellite Radio features more than 120 channels of original programming beamed coast-to-coast, including 65 channels of commercial-free, digital-quality music, and news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming.

Note: Satellite radio service is available only within the continental United States. Service is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.

Display: The SP-R2 tuner has a large backlit LCD screen. You can choose between two ways to present the artist and song title information on the LCD screen. The Default screen displays the artist and song title on separate lines. Pressing the Display button will increase the character size to its maximum, put artist and song title information on the same line, and continuously scroll them across the screen. The channel name, number, category, preset band/number, and time of day are always displayed.

Display Adjustments: You can manually adjust the display's contrast and dimming controls for best viewing. The Auto Dimmer option allows the unit to use ambient light to automatically sense and determine the proper display intensity for the current lighting conditions.

Category Tuning: The Category buttons allow you to cycle through the available genres of programming: Pop, Rock, Country, Hip-Hop, R&B/Urban, Dance/Electronic, Jazz/Standards, Classical, Latin/World, News, Sports and Entertainment. Once the category has been selected, you can choose the channels from that category using the rotary knob.

Preset Tuning: The tuner allows you to store 30 presets in 3 separate banks (A, B, and C). Preset channels can be tuned directly by selecting a preset band and pressing the preset number on the numeric keypad (unit or remote). You can also activate the preset tune mode in which the rotary knob scrolls through only the preset channels.

Jump: The Jump key is programmed to access a specific channel, regardless of which preset bank is currently selected.

Direct Tuning: Using the direct and numeric buttons on the supplied remote, you can directly access SIRIUS channels by their 3-digit channel numbers.

Skip/Add: You can select seldom-tuned channels to be "skipped", if desired. This prevents the channel from being accessed during any of the tuning modes (except direct tuning). A skipped channel can be re-added using the same menu.

Channel Lock: You can lock a channel, making it only available by direct tuning. When a locked channel is tuned directly, you will need to enter a 4-digit code before the channel can be heard.

Instant Replay: The receiver is capable of storing the audio from the current channel for later playback. Up to 44 minutes can be stored and accessed later. As soon as you tune to a channel, the receiver automatically begins storing the audio. Once the audio is stored, you can perform the following functions: play, pause, fast forward, and rewind.

Memory and Song Seek Functions: This feature allows you to capture and store the program data information (artist and song title). You can store program data information for up to 20 songs. The tuner will monitor the current incoming SIRIUS signals and alert you if any match the program data information stored in memory.

Antenna Aiming: You can check the strength of the SIRIUS satellite signal being received. When locating the antenna in your home, you should place the antenna in a spot that illuminates the maximum number of bars on the meter.

Audio Output Level: You can adjust the level of the audio output to match the other sources in your audio system. You can choose from 10 output levels.

FM Transmitter: The built-in modulator has 100 frequency options. This feature allows you transmit SIRIUS radio programming to your vehicle's FM tuner, so you don't have to make any connections between the SIRIUS receiver and the radio.

Game Alert: When your favorite NFL team is playing on a different channel, Game Alert will notify you.

Time-Based Functions: The tuner has a built-in clock with the time data provided by the SIRIUS channel. The clock options can be set for 12-hour or 24-hour operation, time zone, and observance of Daylight Saving Time. Once the clock data is set, you can activate the following functions:

  • Alarm Clock: The built-in alarm clock can be set to turn on the unit at a specific time.
  • Program Alert: The Program Alert function allows you to program the unit to turn on and switch to a selected channel at a specific time.
  • Auto Shutdown: The unit can be set to automatically turn off after a one-hour period without any user intervention, after 59 minutes of inactivity, a beep-tone sounds and a display prompt appears on the screen allowing you the option of canceling auto shutdown.
  • Sleep Mode: The receiver can be set to turn off after a selected period of time, 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

Factory Default: To revert back to all the original receiver settings at once, activate the factory default screen.

Remote Control: In addition to offering all the controls on the receiver's front panel, the remote adds direct tuning, audio mute, and volume control. The remote has the following dimensions: L=4.148", W=1.609", H=0.727".

Car Kit Features

Overview: The SP-C2 car kit includes everything you need to install the SIRIUS Sportster tuner into your vehicle. The kit contains the docking cradle, mounting bracket, DC power supply (cigarette lighter), roof-mount antenna, and mounting hardware. The SIRIUS tuner mounts firmly in the cradle, where antenna, power and signal connections are made. The cradle's base is designed to mount securely to your windshield using the suction cup.

Antenna: The low-profile SIRIUS antenna has a powerful magnetic base that allows you to mount the antenna on the roof or trunk lid of your vehicle. The antenna needs to be positioned in such a way that it will be free of mechanical and line-of-sight obstructions. The antenna' s dimensions are: W=2.216", H=0.499", D=2.958" (7.225" including "tail"), Cable Length=20.5'.

Note: The attached micro cable has a single SMB connector, which plugs into the cradle.

Cradle: The SP-R2 tuner slides into the docking cradle and is locked into place. On the back of the cradle are inputs for the antenna and DC power supply, plus a line output (minijack) and an FM transmission antenna output (sub-minijack).

Mounting Base: Using the supplied base with attached suction cup, the cradle can be mounted to the windshield in your vehicle. The base has two adjustment points that allows you to adjust the tuner for optimum viewing.

Compatibility with Optional Pro-Fit Brackets: The car kit docking station is directly compatible with the Legend series (adjustable ball/socket joint) Pro-Fit Vehicle-Specific Mounts (VSMs). When used with the Pro-Fit easy swivel adapter (item number 042EZ1026), the docking station will work with the standard (fixed) Pro-Fit VSMs, as well. Please, check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector for a Pro-Fit VSM that's compatible with your vehicle.

Note: The Pro-Fit easy swivel adapter (item number 042EZ1026) must be used in conjunction with the standard (fixed) Pro-Fit mounts to provide clearance for the DC and Audio plugs on the back of the docking station.
