Mirage Nanosat Speakers
360-degree view of Mirage Nanosat speaker
From Mirage - Omni Polar Sound
Mirage OmniPolar Speakers
Item # 653NANO51B | MFR # Nanosat 5.1
This item is no longer available.
Enjoy wraparound home theater sound with the Mirage Nanosat 5.1 speaker system. Five small satellites and a subwoofer deliver full-bodied surround sound that brings your favorite movies, TV shows, music, and video games to life. You'll hear realistic imaging and lifelike ambient effects, from the rumble of an engine to the splash of individual raindrops in a thunderstorm. And the system's compact design and sleek black finish make it a great-looking addition to just about any room.
The key to the Nanosat 5.1 system's open, true-to-life sound is Mirage's exclusive Omnipolar® technology. Each speaker disperses sound evenly in a 360° pattern, thanks to the saucer-shaped Omniguide mounted above its drivers. The result: a deeper, wider, taller soundstage that transforms your entire listening space into a "sweet spot." You won't have to anchor yourself to one prime seat — you'll experience warm, natural audio throughout the room. The subwoofer's patented driver design allows quick, precise movement of the woofer cone for clean, distortion-free bass.
Mirage's Omnipolar design gives you plenty of placement flexibility. The small satellites fit nicely on shelves or tables, or you can mount them on the wall using the included hardware. Because of the way they radiate sound, they're more forgiving than direct-firing speakers. You can even mount the satellites up high, near the ceiling, for an unobtrusive look. And place the compact subwoofer behind the couch or under an end table to complete the system's "hideaway" installation.
For even more engaging surround sound, pick up additional Mirage Nanosat satellite speakers to complete a six- or seven-channel home theater setup.

Good sound and easy to wire and secure to wall
I'm not an audiophile, but I know good sound when I hear it. I wanted an affordable system that would give me better than average sound, and would look good mounted in my den. To my ear, the sound is excellent. My den is about 15' x 20' and this system has no trouble filling the room with highs and deep bass. As others have noted, the mids are maybe not as pronounced as they could be, but to me it's not a major issue (again, I'm no audiophile... I just appreciate rich sound). The mounting brackets are great! I had budgeted $100 for brackets, but unlike other systems, they come included with the Nanosat. I will say they don't allow for a great deal of adjustment... it would be nice if I could more precisely aim the speakers towards the center of the room... although part of the appeal of this system is its "360 degree" sound, so I suppose precise aiming isn't critical. I mounted L/R and surround speakers upside down in the corners of my room, and the center speaker sits right-side-up on a cabinet under the TV. All in all, if you're looking for an affordable, quality 5.1 system with good sound and aesthetics, you can't go wrong with the Nanosat 5.1
Pros: Crisp highs Deep bass (from a relatively small sub) Integrated brackets work really well... no need to buy add-on brackets as with other systems, which saves at least $100. Satellite speakers have a really pleasing appearance -- a lot of design went into these.
Cons: A little weak on midrange (not surprising given the size of the speakers) The integrated brackets, while very effective, don't allow for much adjust-ability (maybe 30 degrees total left/right adjustment range).
Small Dynamite with great sound
Never had anything like this before they sound very good.
Great sound in small points on the wall. Plenty happy with clarity and power, so amusing.
Pros: Small size and come with mounting brackets. Working terrific upside down since we are in a finished section of the basement with 7.5 foot ceiling and not wanting people bumping into them (teenagers).
These speakers sound great. I was a little apprehensive with them being so small, but they are crisp, clear and the sub sounds great, not muddy or hollow.
Pros: fit great in small places, mount in rear surround cleanly and out of sight.
I've had these for about a year now. I have never paid much attention to midrange because every speaker system I have had, it wasn't a problem; however, it seems to be a little lacking in these. I feel it is because the jump from the small satellites to the sub is so wide, I think they would benefit from a center speaker and I plan to add one. At first I had the crossover set way to low and crashed one of the satellites, which was replaced, I now have it set at 150, but think I will go to 120 in an attempt to gather some midrange. Overall sound is very good, I feel it is better than the Bose benchmark. I would very much recommend these based on quality of construction and sound reproduction, but be prepaired to invest in a center channel speaker is you want top shelf sound. I have them hooked to a Denon AVR-1611 and primarily use the system for music listening.
Pros: Quality construction and stunning highs. Good subwoofer. Size and appearence of system. Ease of set up.
Cons: Midrange is somewhat lacking.
I needed speakers for my first surround sound hook up. Crutchfield recommended these speakers along with a Onkyo receiver based on my telling them that I would be installing them in my basement. I told them that I didn't have tons of money to spend and they said that I wouldn't be disappointed in these speakers. They were so very RIGHT! The sound is wonderful! During the Super Bowl, I kept looking around for the people talking behind me, turns out it was the speakers! Very clear sound!! I got a wonderful sounding system with these speakers. Thanks Crutchfield, you did well!
Pros: Great Sound, small in size, affordable.
Cons: Subwoofer is a bit large, but nothing that would cause me to not buy them again. Would have liked if they came in White so they would blend in with my white ceiling.
I love this
Speakers were wonderful. Subwoofer failed three times in 5 years. Power Failure in amp in subwoofer - repaired by techs. Returned with not picking up signal as all - again, repaired by techs. Now, again not picking up any proven subwoofer output signal. Can't tell you how many times we said, "should have gotten the Bose!" So disappointed with this product.
Pros: price, ease of hookup, look, and feel
Cons: Inconsistant performance, and problematic subwoofer unit, that was not tested adequately on two different repair tips to Mirage certified techs. Additionally, the product never performed to the levels that was expected.
Pretty good sound ing speakers. Heard better but not for the cost. Works very well for my smaller apartment living room.
Pros: Price Easy Speaker Placement
Cons: Not Bose
Great system especially for the price. Completely blows the older Bose Acoustimass 10 system it replaced away. They do a great job of making you feel like you are in a theater during a movie. Voices are much clearer now and overall sound is drastically improved on my system. Music sounds great too. Connected to a Sony 820 receiver. Completely lost the ability to identify which speakers the sound is coming from which was easy on the Bose system.
Pros: Set up is a breeze
Cons: None so far.
User friendly, and good solid unit. Sounds pretty much like what you'd expect like - more than just decent sound - great value for this price. It does not blow me away, but there is really nothing to complain about, either. Easy to set up with the supplied wall mounts. Clean and clear sound, good frequency response on highs and lows. Pairs well with the Denon AVR 1612 5.1 receiver.
Pros: good sound from small speakers - really good dispersion of sound, perfect for the small to midsize room
Cons: hard to say anything negative about these speakers
This is a great sounding 5.1 system. You can't go wrong with the quality vs. sound. I have had my system running for 2 years now through my SONY reciever. I was amazed at the sound that came from these little speakers. I do want to warn all about 1 thing. While listening to a music channel quite loud we had an emergency broadcast warning that popped both of the front speakers. It happened so fast we couldn't turn down the high pitch noise quick enough.
Pros: The small speakers are easily hidden as well as easy to install. They are also real cool looking. The quality of sound is A # 1!!!
Cons: I did mount the rear speakers upside down so the sound would go downward toward the listening area. They still look cool.
We listened to several small-size surround sound speaker systems and did hours of research before purchasing the Mirage Nanosat 5.1 system. The omnipolar technology really makes a big difference in how the sound projects in a room. The clarity of these speakers is also phenomenal, especially for the price. The speakers handle our very powerful, high-end Yamaha receiver and sound great with music and movies alike. Everyday it is a treat to come home and turn on our stereo thanks to the Mirage speakers. I would very highly recommend the Mirage Nanosat system to anyone considering purchasing a small, powerful, high-end sounding speaker system. You cannot get better sound from small speakers and such a reasonable price.
Pros: Speakers sound incredible, are a nice size, and come with mounting brackets. Price is unbeatable.
Cons: The subwoofer is a bit larger than we expected and larger than comparable subs, but it sounds great.
I Have found this setup to be very pleasant for movies as well as music. If you are looking for a great sounding system that wil perform i would HIGHLYrecomend giving this setup a shot. I have owned numerous Bose systems and after hooking this system up was very pleased with the wide crisp and clear full range of soud coming from these little sound jewels.
Pros: Great sound.
These little speakers put out great sound and an amazing quality. I replaced larger Onkyo system speakers that were not omni-directional, and not working out well with my 11 foot ceilings with this system still hooked up to my Onkyo receiver and it is amazing how much better the surround sound is. And the sub was small enough that I put it under an open glass end table out of sight and it produces a more potent boom than my larger one did. A friend hung the speakers for me on my existing mount hooks in a matter of minutes.
Pros: Great sound, attractive small size, reasonably priced.
Cons: In order to get 7.1 to go with my Onkyo system, I had to buy a separate additional small nanosat and a center chanel, and that made the 7.1 set up a little pricey, but ultimately still well worth it.
Second set of these amazing speakers I've purchased from you. New, even lower price is a real bonus. Will fill a fairly good sized room no problem. The 360 degree design is the key.
Pros: Very reasonable price. Easy to hide in room.
Cons: Nothing so far.
I currently have this Mirage Nanosat 5.1 hooked up to a Marantz SR-5006 and the sound is amazing! These little speakers are deceptive in their appearance - in other words, their sound is much bigger than their size! The subwoofer, which I initially thought wouldn't be able to keep up, is awesome! I have yet to put the volume passed halfway. As a note, I have this in a loft style apartment that is approx 27 by 27. With movies, my main reason for getting this, there is super crisp dialogue with an enveloping sound that captivates you. I initially was worried that I would need a more substantial center channel speaker (such as the Nano CC), however after a simple channel level adjustment with the Marantz, and everything was perfect. No need at all for the Nano CC in my opinion. And last but not least, Cruthfield is awesome! I ordered this unit on a Monday and it was there on Tuesday! Incredible!
Pros: Size, Aesthetics, and of course, SOUND!!!
Cons: None at all!
These little speakers sound great. Very clear defined highs and the omni-directional tweeters are not sensitive to placement and provide room filling sound. The subwoofer does a good job providing tight bass. System works great for movies and music. Makes my previous yamaha surround speakers sound like muddy junk.
Pros: A great system for the size and price
I bought a set of Mirage Nanosat® 5.1 Compact Home Theater Speaker System with The Onkyo TX-NR609 home theater receiver. I hung the speakers from the ceiling and painted them white to match the crown molding so the blend in. Loved the 5.1 Mirage speakers soo much I bought another 5.1 set so I could complete a 7.2 system. At $400 thats the same price as a center channel. So I doubled up 2 speakers as my center channel in parallel after completeing my 7.2 system then put the extra 2 speakers in the hallway and 1 in the bathroom. Love it!
Pros: quality sound for the $$, easy mounting, small size with great sound, magnetic grills
Cons: Subwoofer could use more punch. lacks a center channel.
Really great speakers replaced my Sonys with these and I am very impressed with the performance.
Yes, they rock the house. Wild imaging and surround capability. No complaints on movie soundtracks shaking the room or thumping your chest, as of yet. Still not sure about the mid to low range capability, as i am waiting on more breakin for some loosening up to occur. Have the X-over set at 120Hz, per spec, using a Denon avr2112c. But for my small room (10x15), these speakers disappear visually while creating boundless audio depth for the price!
Pros: value for price, audio depth
Cons: lower mid's and upper low spectrum a bit restrained, waiting on more break-in for a final verdict.
AWESOME sounding...easy set up...read lots of reviews on this product and it lived up to all of them. Outside the product, just as happy with level of service (ordering, shipping, follow-up)from Crutchfield...top notch service...my advisor Ziggy was great. Well Done Crutchfield and Mirage...
Pros: Sale Price, Fast shipping, FREE shipping, easy set up, follow-up emails from time it shipped to time I signed for it, total customer service from Crutchfield!
Cons: None...that I found!
Great set of speakers.
These sound great. I'm using them as two fronts, two vertical fronts, and center. They are better than I thought they would be in these roles.
Pros: Good value, quality construction, multiple mount options
Cons: Bracket can interfere with installing wires, move to one side and it goes in fine.
I have a very oddly shaped room that I use for my TV/entertainment. It has 20ft. high sloping ceilings and it's 18 X 23. I was unable to place the two rear speakers the same distance from the front channel speakers so I was really scared I wouldn't get a full sound. Also I had to place the front and center speakers around 14ft off the floor and the rear speakers around 8ft. off the floor. I must say with all those things the sound is unbelievable. I purchased a sub cord that was to short so I was forced to place the sub inside my component closet. Even with the door closed and the closet being over 20ft. away it still blows you out of the room. The only thing is that I think to bring the speakers from unbelievable to perfection you do need the center channel speaker because it gives a more crisp sound during conversations on the TV.
Pros: you can sit anywhere in the room and you get great sound.
Cons: no center speaker with the packege
I waited for about a year to get my Nanostats and did a lot of research. Listened to a variety of surround sound systems. These are very clear, dynamic speakers. Overall they sound great for both surround sound and music.
Pros: Small, great sounding system.
Cons: Subwoofer could use more punch.
I think I read over 1000 reviews before I bought these NanoSats. Had to be wife friendly design, cost correct, and sweet sound. These speakers provide all of these. BUT, you will have to give them a couple of weeks to "warm up" as they sound a little flat out of the box. After 2 weeks, it is a nice pure wall of sound for surround sound movies in an enormous irregular, 20ft ceiling non-optimal listening space.
Pros: Size and Style (Beautiful to look at and hide), Wall of Balanced Sound from everywhere to every location. Perfect for large, multi person viewing rooms. Subwoofer is tight without booming (better than HK 12" I replaced), Makes XBOX Kenect games sound great and gives room warm sound for everyone. Worth the consideration.
Cons: Little light on the center channel. Default Auto-Adjustment setting from Onkyo had a flat center channel. Upped the level to +2 from std and sounds great. Not great for First Person Shooter games (CoD MW3) as there is a wall of sound and hearing where sound is coming from is tough (wife says that is what headset is for)
Best system for $400 by far. Onkyo 509 Sony kdl46nx810
Pros: Crisp sound Good sub Design Speaker connection Name brand quality
Cons: Weaker center channel but for $400 absolutely no going wrong
I have never offered up a product review for ANYTHING in my life! I have been waiting for the right time to buy these speakers to hook up to my Onkyo TX-DS747 receiver. For sure good things come to those who wait. My room is 23x19, and I have hardwood floors and an L shaped sofa set, no area rug. THe sound reproduction is spot on. BlueRay audio is killer. Still working on getting it tweaked out 100%, but this is so much better than the other speakers I almost fell for over the last two years..."just so i could have surround..." I can wait to watch the Pats destroy the Giants in two weeks during the Superbowl!
Pros: The way the high, and lows wash over the room due to the omnidirectional horns, is keller!
Cons: The center speaker gets a bit lost as it is not pointed to me directly. I will invest in a Polk or similar center channel soon.
I was going to buy these when they were $800.00, but just purchased them at $400.00, they would have been a good buy at $800.00. the sound coming out of these speakers is crazy. they play music very well, but where they really shine is using them for movies. i was very pleasantly surprised at the big sound coming out these speakers, and with such clarity. the subwoofer barks out big bass thats sharp and clear, no rattle or vibration at all , like with junk subwoofers. If your looking to buy surround sound speakers, then these are ones you cannot pass up. Do yourself a favor and purchase them now!
Pros: amazing product for its size
The omnipolar design is really great at producing surround sound, unfortunately it seems to take away from the center channel. I failed to notice in store that this system doesn't have a special center speaker, it's just like all the rest of the satellites. Because of this, the center channel is spread out and muffled. I swapped out the center speaker for a more traditional center channel and now I'm fairly happy with the system. Great surround, great bass, and I can actually hear dialog without cranking the volume. Do yourself a favor and listen to these speakers before buying, make sure to listen to some dialog in a movie and you'll notice it's lacking.
Overhall I am happy with the speakers. When watching movies I give it a A, but just listening to music I give them a B-. My old Polk Audio speakers that are 25 years old from my days in the military sound considerbly better when just wanting to listen to music.
Everyone loves the sound of my new system! Due to the size and layout of my room, my rear surround speakers are about 12 feet overhead and my front speakers are only about 6 feet apart in a large space. The diffused sound of the Nanosat's allow for great sounding surround and front channels. Well done! Love them!
I'm extremely impressed with the quality of sound coming from these small speakers. I've got them teamed up with an Onkyo TX-NR708 and I could not be more satisfied. So much so that I purchased an extra Nanosat and a Definitive Technology center channel to to complete the 7.1 channel system- just icing on the cake!!!! A side note: I've always read how awesome the customer service is at Crutchfield- I whole-heartedly agree. I called Crutchfield customer service for advice torn between a Mirage or Definitive Technology center channel. They said no problem, "I'll send you both, and you decide which one you like the best". Is that awesome or what? Thanks Crutchfield; you've got a customer for life.
These speakers are very small which is the reason I original purchased them. I currently have larger surround speakers and decided to step to a smaller form factor to decrease the speaker room footprint. They do fill the room with sound, have a nice "sweet spot" and the highs and low are certainly very evident. What they really lack is any type of midrange punch. I was not expecting to be thoroughly wowed since they have such a small main driver, but they have almost no midrange. If you are looking for a smaller speaker with a better overall sound I would recommend the Definitive 600 series. They are still a very small speaker and do a MUCH better job at reproducing all of the sound range for just a little more money.
I bought this system on recommendation from the Crutchfield rep. I have it paired with an Onkyo 606 receiver and it cranks. My basement room is about 24x15 and the Mirage system fills it up. I am truly impressed with this system. I replaced a box store Sony package system and there is no comparison. Great system low price! What can you say about Crutchfield's customer service that hasn't been said already. Complete instructions with wiring labels and knowledgeable staff when you have a question. Great A+++++
After a year, I still do not regret my purchase of these speakers from Crutchfield. They have performed excellently in filling up our "mini-home theater" and bring a higher level of enjoyment in everything we do, from watching HD TV and DVD's, playing Wii or just listening to music. Even in their small package, they are very efficient with no distortion; watching ALL six Star Wars episodes are, literally and figuratively, "a blast"! Our system is 100% Crutchfield, driven by an Onkyo 705 receiver and viewed on our 52" Toshiba LX177 and "free" HD-A30 DVD player; next purchase will be up- grade to Blu-Ray, can't wait!
I am setting up a new home theater room and I ordered the Nanosat and a Yamaha RX-V465 for the surround sound system. They sound great and look even cooler. The room is 14 ft x 20 ft and these speakers and sub will blow you out of there. I was worried about the smallish sub but it will rattle the walls and pulse the floors. I have bigger Klipsch's in my family room and I like these better and they cost a lot less. The reviews on Crutchfield and Cnet lead me to them and I am very pleased. Both of my receivers (Denon and Yamaha) have a single sub output but the Mirage sub has two RCA inputs. A quick call to Crutchfield resolved this, plugged into the left input. If that is in the Mirage manual I couldn't find it and I think it could be better explained in the set up guide. Worked great after that.
I was looking for high quality speakers with a reasonable price tag. After lots of research, I stumbled upon these speakers. Initially, I was somewhat skeptical about these speakers (I had never heard of the name Mirage before). Nonetheless, I decided to go forward with my purchase and I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised. I purchased my speakers in October 2008 and installed them with a Sony projector and a Yamaha receiver. Ever since, I had no desire to go to any movie theater as my own setup is more than perfect for this purpose. Very highly recommended speakers.
I purchased these speakers based on the information here on Crutchfield and have not been disappointed. They really sound great and fill my living room with sound. The base module is well matched to the speakers and provides plenty of bass and feeling for a surround sound system. One additional bonus is they come ready to mount on your walls.
With electronics at some point everything gets out-dated. I was looking for a system that I would be happy with for a long time because I don't like doing things twice; especially in a few years when I could spend a little more and be content later. I was tempted with Onkyo's HT-S7100 complete system because of the price and features but wanted smaller speakers. Because this is my first real surround system I did a LOT of research before buying and my wife would tell you I'm totally geeked with it. My only worry before buying was the low-wattage on the subwoofer but for the 13x18 room it's in, it is more than enough. I added another satellite and a center channel speaker for 7.1 surround and wow....the speakers deliver excellent sound in all directions. There's very little change if the speakers are pointed elsewhere so if you have an odd setup I'm sure this would work very well. The sound these small speakers deliver are worth the price. Driven with an Onkyo TX- SR606 receiver, Panasonic Blu-ray player and Panasonic 42" Viera plasma, I'm going to be geeked for years to come.
Considered Bose, but settled on this system with the Onkyo 707 receiver....on advice from Crutchfield. Great recommendation. The surround L and R speakers are mounted upside down near ceiling height, as recommended. Once I programmed the system with the microphone included with the receiver, the system sounds great. Subwoofer makes a big difference. Very satisfied with new home theater. Matched with Samsung 52 inch...in heaven.

Drivers: Each satellite houses a 2-3/4" titanium deposit polypropylene cone midrange with butyl rubber surround and a 3/4" pure titanium hybrid (PTH) dome tweeter mounted on the Omniguide.
Omnipolar Technology: By utilizing the natural room reflections this speaker design radiates sound in a 360° pattern, expanding the sweet spot to encompass virtually the entire room.
Omniguide: The patented Omniguide module utilizes two deflectors, one each for the tweeter and midrange. The module disperses sound the way the ear and brain are accustomed to receiving it; thirty percent is direct sound, the other seventy percent is reflected off walls, ceilings, floors and other surfaces for a completely immersive, 360º experience.
Enclosure: The satellites have an acoustic suspension, extruded aluminum enclosure.
Speaker Terminals: Each satellite features high-quality binding post speaker terminals for a secure and convenient connection. You will need to remove a plug that's inserted in the center of the binding post if you wish to use single banana plugs, the terminals are too far apart for dual banana plugs. Spade connectors, pin connectors, or bare wire up to 10 gauge can also be used.
Mounting: The NanoSat speaker comes with a key-hole slot wall mount bracket installed. The bracket is mounted with one screw and can position the speaker right side up or upside down. Once mounted the speaker can swivel left or right (approximately +/-40°). The bracket mounts the speaker approximately 1/4" from the wall. The 1/4" 20 threaded insert on the bottom can also be used with other brackets. If you mount the satellite speaker more than six feet off the floor, Mirage recommends turning it upside down. If you place the satellite speaker on a table or shelf, put it as close to the front edge as possible.
Video Shielded: The satellites are magnetically shielded for safe placement near your TV or computer monitor without causing picture interference.
Design: The down-firing 8" sub features Mirage's patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology. The Elliptical Surround encompasses the cone, allowing it to move identically in both directions, reducing distortion. It also allows for a larger cone surface and greater peak to peak movement, resulting in better efficiency and bass extension. The port is front facing.
Connections: The Nano S8 has spring clip speaker level inputs and stereo RCA line-level inputs. Use the left RCA input when connecting to a single LFE output. If available, Mirage recommends using the line input with the preamp's crossover set as close to 120 Hz as possible.
Phase: The phase is reversible; 0 or 180 degrees.
Crossover: The crossover is continuously adjustable from 40 Hz to 150 Hz.
Volume: The subwoofer has a separate volume level, allowing you to adjust the subwoofer volume relative to the rest of the system.
Power: The power switch has three positions; on, off, and auto. In the auto position the sub turns on when it senses an audio signal and turns off after several minutes with no signal.
