Getting the best picture is now easier

The 50PA6500 looks great right out of the box, but if you'd like to fine-tune settings like contrast or color, LG makes it easy. Their Picture Wizard II avoids complicated menus — what you'll find instead are easy-to-use adjustments and a quick self-calibration feature. Piece of cake.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent picture, great motion. No pixel blur or blocking during action scenes. And I am watching the NHL. Lots of fast motion. It's fantastic

Pros: Great Picture, Great Value

Cons: The owners manual and directions could be better detailed.

No buyer regrets

CaleB from SC on 3/7/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very big bang for the buck, no problems with set up or use, just be sure to take care of light reflection sources (as with all plasma's) or you'll be seeing it on the screen. Crutchfield's price was great with fast and free shipping as an added bonus!!

Pros: Price, size, and performance

Cons: none that I can see

nice Plasma TV

MaineRustic from So Portland, Maine on 2/10/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've never owned a plasma TV or one this large, but I do love it. It has a nice crisp picture, it was easy to set up and overall, I love it. It was built well with quality, it was everything that I read about in the ads.

Pros: Easy to set up, great picture a good product

Cons: not sure how to get my Roku setup in a way that the speakers use my receiver instead of the TV. Every other thing that I set up, including accessing my macbook via HDMI works great

Cons: Kind of heavy

LG 50PA6500

Marjan from Paso Robles, CA on 1/30/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Researched the product on the internet and Consumer Reports. Was torn between the LED and Plasma, Plasma won out and I love it - can view picture from every angle. Still learning how to use all features as we have only had it for about a week. Bought ours through Crutchfield and delivery was prompt.

Pros: Our first ever flat screen Plasma television. Excellent picture, I like that you can choose to view from cinema, game, sport and standard. Good sound.

Cons: The screen is pretty reflective when someone has a light on for reading - we moved the reading light to a different chair. Problem solved!

Perfect HDTV.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Absolutely perfect. Went from in the box to set up and working perfectly in very little time. A true value for the money. Couldn't ask for more!

Pros: Styling, sound quality, picture quality, ease of setting up, good price.

Cons: Didn't come with tip protection cable, but was not listed as having or needing one. Might be a good idea, though.

Good value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pros: Picture

Cons: None

Great Mid-Range Plasma

Brandon from Rhode Island on 12/31/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted a nice flat panel to wall-mount with a screen size between 46 and 50 inches diagonally. My search was narrowed down to a 50 inch plasma, between this television, and Panasonic's TC-P50U50. With a similar price point, it was a difficult decision and I can only assume i made the right decision based off of other product reviews. Despite that, I am very satisfied with my purchase of the LG 50PA6500.

Pros: Thin Bezel creates an illusion of larger screen. Relatively lightweight. Reasonably thin depth. Picture Quality is amazing for this price.

Cons: Screen Glare. Could be a tad bit brighter.

Beautiful Picture!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did not intend to buy a plasma television but after speaking with Dean about plasma in general and the cost of this particular televsion with shipping included I am quite happy.

Pros: Picture

Cons: The first one arrived cracked. I don't think the packaging is very sturdy.

Excellent plasma for the price

Pcw127 from Austin, TX on 10/4/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The purchase process with Crutchfield was great as usual. This is the best plasma for the money. The image quality is excellent with some adjustment. Picture are clean and clear with natural colors. Blu ray looks amazing with no edge roughness and the black level is not as dark as other competitors but not within this price range. For a 50 inch mid end plasma TV you can't go wrong with this one.

Pros: Vibrant colors Smooth motion Amazing Blu Ray performance

Cons: OK black level

Great picture at a great price

JonathanL from Houston Texas on 9/29/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the perfect choice for anybody seeking top class picture without unnecessary features. Built in speakers much better than expected (using these until my home theatre receiver and speakers are installed. I am using an Apple TV box (less than $100), and this adds all the extra "smart TV" features beyond what you get on the very high priced models. There's no 3D capability, but that was not important to me - although I admit I would have preferred to have it, just forgot!

Pros: Great picture. Easy set up. TV's sound quality really quite OK compared to a lot of sets. Simple design is very tasteful

Cons: Remote is not illuminated. No 3D capability. The design is not as cool as higher priced sets.

I wanted a TV for my living room, and because of the wider viewing angles, this Plasma worked out perfectly. It's now become my favorite room in the house. I added the Sony HD-CT150 sound bar, and they work beautifully together.

Pros: Bright, colorful picture Great viewing angles Great price and value

Cons: Shipping was a day later than promised, but I was able to be home to receive it.

Very happy

MattQ from Pasadena, CA on 9/28/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The TV is beautiful. It works exactly as all of the other online reviews have said. I like the menus, the ease of switching inputs, the ease of sizing aspect ratio, the ease of choosing the image settings. The screen is reflective as other reviews warned, but we don't mind at all. I mean, look at the price, man!!!! In the evening, turn off the lights and enjoy the amazing picture. When it's sunny, go outside and enjoy nature ;). I jest. The TV is fine in the day too and we have several big windows without blinds. So in summary, it's great. I can't imaging buying a different TV. Very satisfied.

Pros: Screaming value Picture quality Beautiful bezel Ease of use - good menus Quality build and appearance

Cons: Reflective screen

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced an older 42" Hitachi plasma with this 50" LG PA6500 model. Great price - $ delivered! The first one I received was damaged- screen was cracked. I called Crutchfield and the CSR was very helpful and apologetic and immediately sent me a replacement. The picture quality is what I expected from a plasma TV - very good black levels, excellent deep colors, and off axis vewing was excellent. Surprisingly, the audio was not too bad either I have been purchasing equipment from Crutchfield since the early eighties and the customer service has always been top-notch AAA+++.

Pros: User interface was very good. Very good black levels, excellent deep colors, and off axis vewing was excellent. Inputs easily accessible.

Cons: None

The 50PA6500

Jim from Sheffield,Pa. on 9/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I only gave it a 4star on the picture quality. Not that its bad by any means. I did buy it on the reviews from here and across the internet.I am very impressed with it. The 4 star rating is because of what I already knew in advance. Not the best in well lit rooms, but then again I knew that before I bought it. But when the evening comes around, which is when I'm home most..the picture quality is incredible. When the room is starting to get dark, this is when you'll appreciate everything about it. Side viewing is second to none. Sound is fantastic, but then again I only have 2 other TV's to compare. It does everything I want it to do. So in the end, I'm very happy with this TV...I could've bought this cheaper at a few other places by a few bucks, but I've bought from Crutchfield before and the stand behind their products and their service is outstanding. As for shipping, you can gaurantee you'll get it on time and in perfect shape.

Pros: everything

Cons: lacking a little in bright lit rooms, but not bad..

Awesome TV

AustinS from Logan, Utah on 9/16/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great TV, picture is excellent. Have it mounted on my wall, and the HDMI inputs on the left side (facing left) are very convenient - my wallmount keeps the TV very close to the wall, so there would have been a lot of pressure on the HDMI port on the back if I had used it (would have me worried). Being a plasma there is glare on the screen when we have all our windows unshaded during the day, but at night or when curtains are placed over the windows and it's nice and dark/dim this thing is a beauty. I only use it in cinema mode, but if somebody wants to be 'greener' there is an 'energy efficient' option that dims the image a bit and uses less power. This thing really shines in cinema mode though, with great color representation. Very happy, and so is everybody else in the house.

Pros: Wonderful Picture Convenient side inputs (2 HDMI) Great price

Cons: None, considering glare is a problem all plasmas have in common, buyer should know about and plan for it when purchasing

Screen cracked

Stan from Frankfort, KY on 9/3/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Been wanting a plasma for the den where I can control the light. This worked out great. With the surround sound setup the picture & sound are great. The only problem was the first unit was poorly packaged & the screen was cracked in multiple places. I received the unit on a Tuesday & got the replacement on the following Friday. The new unit was in a heavily padded additional box. Its been 2 weeks since I got the original unit & unfortunately its still sitting in its box in the living room waiting to be picked up by UPS.

Pros: Great picture, easy to wall mount.

Cons: Slow pickup of damaged unit.

Great TV for the price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great TV for the money, shipping was really fast too! Keep in mind when considering this TV, the one downside is the glare you get. It might not look as good in a room with a lot of natural light. But I am very happy with this TV!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a LG PA5500 50" from a local store. Specs identical to this model. The motherboard failed in 2 weeks and I returned it. Then I bought a Panasonic from Costco but the features were not as nice as the LG so I returned it. It has been 3 weeks with my PA6500 with no issues. I love this TV. Ordering from Crutchfield was a breeze. Delivery was as advertised. My only issue with delivery was the box had been sitting in something icky that got all over my carpet. I like the viewing angle of the plasma. The colors and definition are great. I rarely turn the sound up past the halfway point and the quality of the sound is fine. I am a very happy customer.

Cons: None that I have found

LG Plasma - good experience and great product

Mario from Bellevue, WA on 8/15/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellence price and performance as a TV. Using Xbox 360 + media center and full HD content looks great. Focuses on what I want in a TV - great picture, good sound, easy setup at a great value. Screen size is great for our room - 20x30. Cases size is about the same as our older 42" plasma. NOTE: regarding another review - it was 3 HDMI ports - one in back, and 2 in back but facing left side.

Pros: Price Picture quality Sound quality Slim case, slim bezel

Cons: none for me

Great picture

TimD from KY on 8/10/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I researched sub $1k televisions for several weeks before making the decision to purchase this set. There is nothing comparible to the picture quality of the 50PA6500 in this price range or even quite a bit beyond. The set has a fantastic picture and the black levels are much better than previous LG models in this class. Some reviews on this site state that there is only 1 HDMI but there are 3 and that it is not 3D. This is a 3D capable set.... you would only need to purchase the emitter for the glasses to hook to the set.

Pros: Slim bezel, stunning picture, plenty of inputs for a basic home theater setup.

Cons: It would be better with true ARC capability instead of the proprietary LG Simplink system. Running all components through a soundbar into one television HDMI connection confuses the set and makes it swap HDMI inputs to empty slots on it's own when Simplink is used for the other components.

Great Price For A Good Television

Jon from Maine on 7/15/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had this tv around a month now which is why I waited on a review to really test it. This is my first HD television and it certainly did not disappoint! The picture on newer blurays is fantastic and extremely crisp. I had zero issues with setting this up the onscreen menu is incredibly easy to use. One thing I really want to tell you if you buy this television you absolutely MUST turn off Energy Saver Mode under your picture options. Having that on makes the picture very dim and weak. Soon as you turn that off the picture comes to life. As for Crutchfield, the shipping was very fast and prompt, I will certainly keep coming to them for my future electronics needs. Highly recommend the tv.

Pros: Good picture, great price, easy to setup

Cons: None that I can think of, I have had absolutely no problems at all.

  • Normal: If image sticking is never a problem, ISM is not necessary - set to Normal.
  • Orbiter: Orbiter may help prevent ghost images. However, it is best not to allow any fixed image to remain on the screen. To avoid a ghost image on the screen, the image will move every 2 minutes.

Tone Control: You can adjust the TV's Bass & Treble output.

Clear Voice II: Clear Voice II enhances and amplifies the frequency range of the human voice to help keep dialogue audible when background noise swells.

Auto Volume: Auto Volume makes sure that the volume level remains consistent whether you are watching a commercial or a regular TV program. Because each broadcasting station has its own signal conditions, volume adjustment may be needed every time the channel is changed. This feature allows users to enjoy stable volume levels by making automatic adjustments for each program.

Screen Off: You can turn the screen off and only sound is played through the television's speakers.

Digital Audio Output: The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the TV tuner.
