Our take on the LG OLED55B7A

Each summer a group of A/V industry experts holds a "TV Shootout" where a handful of the finest TVs available face off. Last year, an LG OLED model took the top honor — for the fourth year in a row! The winner was one of LG's E7P models, but LG's entire 2017 OLED 4K TV lineup uses the same panel and video processing. So, although it costs a lot less, this 55" OLED55B7A will deliver the same spectacular picture that won over the expert judges at the TV Shootout.

LG OLED wins 2017 TV Shootout

Each summer a group of A/V industry experts holds a "TV Shootout" where a handful of the finest TVs available face off. Last year, an LG OLED model took the top honor — for the fourth year in a row! The winner was one of LG's E7P models, but LG's entire 2017 OLED 4K TV lineup uses the same panel and video processing. So, although it costs a lot less, this 55" OLED55B7A will deliver the same spectacular picture that won over the expert judges at the TV Shootout.

What is OLED?

The OLED screen material is an organic substance that glows when it's activated by an electric current. The screen's pixel layer is made of this self-illuminating carbon-based material — each pixel is its own light source which can be independently switched on and off, so there's no need for a backlight with all its limitations.

Infinite picture contrast, absolute black, and the widest viewing angles available

Each and every OLED pixel — actually every sub-pixel — can switch off completely, producing absolute black. It's this ability that gives OLED it's unbeatable contrast and black levels. LG's OLED design also delivers brilliant colors. In typical TVs, each pixel is made up of three sub-pixels — red, green and blue — to create the color palette. LG's 4 Color Pixel technology adds a white sub-pixel to enhance both color range and brightness.

Actually, LG's 2017 OLED models deliver higher peak brightness than earlier models, and offer a larger color palette. The OLED55B7A vividly demonstrates the extraordinary realism of the latest 4K content, both streamed and on 4K Blu-ray. And if you often watch TV with family or friends, you'll be impressed at the way OLED images maintain exceptional contrast and color even for viewers seated off to the sides.

Enjoy a premium HDR experience with more content

Lately, TV makers have shifted their focus from building TVs with more pixels, to technologies that result in better pixels that produce more vivid, colorful, and lifelike images. The most important of these is HDR (High Dynamic Range), which expands the picture contrast range with both deeper blacks and brighter highlights. You can find HDR-enhanced streamed video content from Netflix® and Amazon Instant Video, and on virtually every 4K Blu-ray movie.

The OLED55B7A not only supports the required HDR 10 format, but also the more sophisticated Dolby Vision™ format, which is a dynamic system that is able to adjust brightness and color levels in response to the video signal on a scene-by-scene basis. LG's Active HDR circuitry analyzes and optimizes HDR 10 content scene by scene, bringing it closer to what Dolby Vision achieves.

LG's webOS 3.5 — spend less time navigating and more time enjoying

The '55B7A's built-in web apps give you instant access to a nearly limitless selection of entertainment including streamed video from services like Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu. The colorful webOS 3.5 user interface lets you customize your home screen to access the apps you use most, and easily switch between them.

LG's motion-sensing Magic Remote is simple and fun to use. You can point, click, scroll and even speak into the remote to find exactly what you want, searching across apps, movies, TV shows and the web, all at the same time.

This is the best tv I have ever watched, the picture is great in any mode. You will really see the difference in the in the true blacks and whites, the detail it gives.I haven't noticed any retention problems or burn in.The web OS is really a great, its fun to use.Like most people I could go on about just about everything.I had spent many hours on line, watching videos reading reviews but till you turn it on and see how much fun this TV is you will never know. For the price, there is nothing close.

    Pros: Everything,too many to mention

    Cons: None

    Great black levels and detail

Bryan from Littleton, CO on 4/24/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had the LG OLED55B7A mounted on the wall now about 2 weeks, replacing my Pioneer Elite 1140 HD. I have admittedly delayed moving up to the newer monitors for several reasons: the fact that the Pioneer is still working wonderfully, the picture quality of newer monitors wasn't as "film like" as the older plasmas produced, and in general, the LED monitors out there ghosted images at a prodigious rate. Starting about 2-3 years ago, the OLED monitors began to really produce good images in sizes suited to small home theaters, and I finally pulled the trigger. First observation: the OLED weighs less than half of the plasma it replaced. Also, mounting was a tad more involved, but generally easier overall. The set up took a few minutes (it is a smart TV after all), but completely worth it to allow streaming 4k images directly through the set. The black levels and detail are incredible-a really remarkable picture (as it stands by itself: certainly by comparison to the plasma it replaced). Fed a 4K image the B7A excels; upsampling BluRay to 4K is almost as good; and upsampling SD is entirely a product of the original materials's quality-in some cases it has very little impact, in others it makes a noticeable difference. If you don't plan to use an AV receiver/prepro, or a sound bar, then moving up to the next model may be worth consideration.

    Pros: image quality weight wireless

Cons: remote takes some getting used to

Can't beleive I waited so long to enjoy OLED quality. I have this paired with the new OPPO player I purchased from you too. Everything is working perfectly.

Pros: So clear, so sharp, so enjoyable to experience this OLED with the Blue-Ray OPPO player.

Cons: The 65" OLED was $1000 more, bummer!

Oh My Goodness!!! I cannot believe how great this TV looks. I was a little worried after reading several online reviews about burn in, but I am no longer worried. There is plenty of information about how to prevent and/or reset the TV to eliminate the burn in. It is not an issue. The TV will automatically roll into screensaver mode within a few minutes if paused too. The sound menu on the TV was the most difficult to figure out. We purchased an amazing JBL 5.1 sound bar with the TV and had trouble figuring out how to get the sound to play through the sound bar using HDMI ARC. There is an obscured buried setting that must be enabled before it works. Simply selecting HDMI ARC from the sound menu doesn't get it until this buried setting is adjusted. It's in the manual, just not obvious. Once all was set properly though, the sound through the sound bar has been awesome. Picture quality is out of this world. Our first movie was Avatar Collectors Edition. Using the LG 4K blue-ray player, LG OLED TV and the JBL 5.1 Sound Bar we purchased all together, we felt like we were at the local IMAX theater. Our house rumbled louder than when the local low-riders roll by, which is a challenge. We are so pleased with our purchase and with the technical support we received from Crutchfield. They were able to answer questions regarding the difference between the B7A, C7 and E7 models of the TV that nobody else could answer. All other stores simply read the manufacturer's descripti

    Impressive TV

RYAN from Columbus, MS on 3/8/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this TV for only a week, but I feel like it was a great purchase! I was reluctantly replacing a Samsung Plasma TV that had begun randomly freezing during streaming content, and also turning off for unexplained reasons. The picture of the 55B7A is incredible with HD content, and far exceeds the plasma quality. I haven't even tried 4K sources yet! SD broadcasts (I use an antenna instead of cable or satellite) are fair quality, but that may be a result of not finding the correct settings for that content. The remote and menus require a bit of a learning curve, but are mostly straightforward. The TV works very well with my new Onkyo receiver. Great TV!

    Pros: Picture quality

Cons: Menus take a little experience to learn.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What impresses me the most about the 55B7A is its ability to display beautiful and detailed standard Blu-Ray images (Not 4K). Perhaps that's because it is paired with a recently purchased Oppo 205. I expected an improvement over my previous LED set but the difference is really astonishing. Hi resolution Oled technology is the way to go of one can afford it.

    Stunning tv.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had reservations about spending this much on a television. After all, I didn't spend much more for my living room suite. I must say, this LG OLED TV is the most incredible television I have ever seen! The colors are vivid, the picture itself is flawless. The width of the screen panel itself is only a hair wider than my cellphone. I have zero regrets about having bought this. If you are on the fence, just do it and you will ask yourself why you waited.

Pros: Mind-blowing picture, lightweight, easy to set up.

    Cons: NONE

Awesome picture. I was worried it would not be as good for sports as my old Pioneer plasma but it meets or exceeds in every way! Need to do picture tweaks for sports such as ice hockey. No regrets.

    Pros: Picture quality,colors, blacks

Cons: Must fine tune for best picture

    So pleased!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We upgraded from our Vizio LED TV. I compared the TV we bought vs another LG model and Samsung. Ended up picking this model as the other LG TV had better built in TV sound which we didn't need because we have a surround sound system. When I read the reviews of LG picture vs. Samsung that sealed the deal for this model. We couldn't be happier. Installation was a breeze and wall mount we had fit.

Superior picture after changes to factory settings

Steve from Los Alamos, NM on 2/13/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent picture after quite a few set-up changes over factory settings: Turning off TruMotion, and turning Contrast down from 100 to 91 were the big ones. Before these changes, scenes were way too dark especially in the background. Now enjoying a dazzling display of a variety of programs, especially golf and the outdoors settings, and movies, even through there is not a lot of 4k content out there. I bought the B7A rather than the C version, as this is the screen portion of a home theater system. Excellent customer service both with Sales with Gordo and Tech support with Spencer.

Pros: superior picture with high dynamic range; wide viewing angle. Great discounted price for 2017 model.

    Cons: factory picture settings

    Excellent picture

Terry from Tulsa, OK on 1/17/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent picture; sound isn't real good so if you have a home entertainment system with surround speakers, that is not a negative but if you don't, you may miss the bass that would be present with a better sound system built in. I know I'm old fashioned, but I do not appreciate the minimalist instructions provided. Yes, you can get it hooked up to watch following prompts, but if you wish to do anything more, it is more difficult and you have to hunt online at LG for more documentation. They could at least include a cd/dvd with the unit since they don't want to print anything any more.

    Pros: Picture

Cons: Sound quality - lacks bass

    Overall a nice TV

Colleen A from Doylestown, PA on 1/2/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice picture. The setup with the remote was tougher than expected. The manual was not very helpful. Trying to plug adjacent hdmi cables with a Fire Stick was very problematic, the spacing is just too close. Had a problem with the picture completely losing signal, dropping audio temporarily along with video. Seems to be HDMI related as we changed cables into different outputs and it is no behaving. Pretty frustrating. The Smart audio was a lag to the video and we can't use it. Very nice tv overall, just a few technical difficulties to overcome.

    Pros: Nice picture

Cons: HDMI inputs too close together. Smart sound function has lag.

Not working with my cable box

Vlad from Stony Brook, NY on 12/31/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Disappointed with the picture when the signal comes from the cable box. Tried everything, using apps to calibrate, going through every setting. Called tech support, they were very helpful, but the final conclusion was that the TV is not processing correctly the signal from the cable box. Returned the TV. Looking at displays in many stores the image is astonishing, but did not work in this case.

    Pros: nice lookin, thin design.....

Cons: image quality when connected to cable box is poor.

I love this TV. Of course, the 4K and HDR content is beautiful. But this TV makes regular 1080P shine. Even my wife, who is not a tech/tv person at all, sees the difference. The best part of all was the superb customer service I received from the Crutchfield team when there was a minor issue. Highly recommend!

    Happy wife, happy life

Jeff from Easton, MD on 12/16/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My wife has always wanted a TV in the bedroom but the thought of a small second one did not appeal so I moved our 46" Samsung LED (from Crutchfield) to make way for this OLED. Installation was straightforward. The remote appears basic with mouse like pointer to aim and click on screen. Picture is stunning with true black, vivid color and exceptional contrast. We also cut the cable cord earlier this year, so high def sources are scarce. We stream Netflix etc thru a Roku and occasionally suffer from internet limitations, no fault of this TV. We live 50 miles from Baltimore/DC and bought a Mohu Sky 60 HD antenna. Now we get HD network programs and finally FOOTBALL. Regular programming reveals the high quality of this TVs picture. Sports are vivid and clear. I will say high speed action is not truly blurry yet rather translucent. Example: football in air during pass seems hollow and halfway transparent like you can see it's outline when in flight. But overall two thumbs up. I would recommend this model at price point and have no buyers remorse. I am not sure what true advantages the higher series models offer in this size for $1000's more. I am not a gamer and do not have blu-Ray or other input sources. There are enough connections and gadgets for me. Good price, free delivery and expert help from Conrad made this purchase an easy decision. I use Crutchfield for all my home entertainment needs.

    Pros: Picture quality, price point

Cons: On screen tools a bit busy

    Great TV

Nathan from Haysville, KS on 12/15/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This TV is a big upgrade compared to my old LG that is at least 8 years old. This 55 inch OLED has an amazing picture. Hey very responsive webos provides all the apps that we use such as Amazon Prime video, Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. I have a media PC that I built for my old TV. I don't find myself using it as much on this TV even though the video from the PC looks great too. The graphics from the computer only does 1080p. I'll have to look for a new graphics card that does 4K. I would definitely buy this TV again!

Pros: Thin bezels, sharp and clear screen, deep colors, plenty of apps.

Cons: The back of the TV is all white. Would have rather of had black. But then again it is the back of the TV.

    So far so good!

Mike from Seattle, WA on 12/13/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have had it for less than a week, but am quite pleased thus far. Set up was very easy, and the picture is amazing. Was worried after reading on some forums about how some of these panels have issues with banding on dark scenes, or a yellow tint on bright white. I will admit, there was a little bit of banding when I tested with a 5% gray right after I set it up. But true to other people's observations, after 20+ hours of viewing, that banding is now all but gone. (I can still see it when looking for it using the 5% gray test, but don't notice it while viewing actual content.) To perfectly sum it up, the first time I showed a 4k HDR scene to my wife, who is a person who appreciates a good picture, but is not obsessive like me, her reaction - "Wow! Holy sh!t!!"

Pros: Easy set up, 4K content is amazing, but even 1080/720 content is quite good as well.

Cons: Not much. Maybe the sound? I have an AVR, so not even using the sound. Remote easily paired with my TiVo, but it doesn't have FFW/RW buttons. Still trying to figure out if those functions were mapped to some other keys.

    Phenomenal picture !!!!!

Matt from Pittsboro, NC on 12/13/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Reviews of this TV are highly accurate. Without question the picture quality, our primary purchase criterion, and screen size due to space limitations of 55" are best represented by the LG OLED. Most of our viewing is movies streamed from various sources. The image resolution and color saturation are positively brilliant. Very happy with the purchase.

Pros: Picture resolution Color saturation Contrast Very easy setup Remote sync to cable box

Cons: Sound is typically weak relative to picture quality Remote is slightly awkward

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Absolutely gorgeous picture! I paired this with the new 4k Apple TV, or even using the Amazon Video app and their 4k offerings and the picture blows my other 4k TV clear out the water. I waited sooo long to get this and I am happy I finally did, but sort of regret waiting so long. Price just dropped though, so now it's a MUST-BUY!!! The remote is wonderful, and easy to use. I've never had an LG TV before but this magic remote is truly great. Much better than navigational buttons or scrolling through options, plus the voice searches make things so easy.

Pros: Awesome picture with any 4k HDR source upscales very well too! Great remote!

Cons: price, though that is better now too!

    Amazing picture quality

Robert from Franklin, PA on 12/12/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This LG OLED is unbelievable. The contrast and color are the strong points of the display. I love contrast and color in my photography and the picture produced is on par with may preferences. Even the lack luster HD signal from my cable box looks good. Streaming Netflix and Amazon is beautiful either from the built in apps or from my Apple TV 4K. Up until now, I mainly streamed content on my phone, recently upgrading to the iPhone X, but have found myself wanting to watch on the TV again. I highly recommend this product. At this price point, it is a steal when compared to other high quality LCD TVs. I also considered Samsung and LG LCD models, but wanted to see the OLED. In addition, this LG supports all of the HDR specifications. I was concerned that this would not be bright enough for my well lit room, but there is no need to be concerned. It is bright and beautiful. Also, I have not seen issues with image retention. The only issue I have is with the sound. The sound sync with my existing sound-bar was off. I tried to adjust the timing, but could not get it right. I am working without a sound bar, pending a possible new purchase. Also, the TV is not able to decode all Dolby Digital. Some sound coming from the LG BluRay and Apple TV $k, via Netflix, is not decodable by the TV. This takes little tweaking in the settings of these devices to dumb down the sound format to match what the TV can handle. I hope that using the ARC to a new sound-bar may fix

Pros: picture quality is amazing great contrast and color HDR support for all specifications bright enough for well lit room

Cons: sound decoding and syncing not great

Crutchfield response on 12/13/2017 Robert, we're sorry you're having issues with your sound syncing with the soundbar. If the problem continues, please just reach out to our tech support team. They can either help get it working the way it should, or possibly return it for an exchange or refund.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this based on reviews and at the suggestion my salesman Manny. I have had a Panasonic Plasma TV for the last 15 years, which is still going strong but lacks HDMI. I also have a newer Samsung TV in another room. My 1st foray into LG TV's and it blows the others away. I have enjoyed a full Sunday of football and one Blue ray movie so far. Night and day picture in comparison to what I am use to. Simple to put together right out of the box and hook up to my new Home theater as well. Self set up program was easy to do. I gladly recommend this TV.

Pros: Colors, picture, ease of hook up and programming, Good Cyber Monday pricing.

    Cons: None yet.

    Fabulous picture!

Chris from Ithaca, MI on 12/11/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far, fabulous! Picture is 2nd to none. Pure blacks offer great contrasts. Easy setup with HDMI from cable box. Setup was a breeze. No motion issues, even with fast-paced action. Only negative is the so-so sound. But am planning to add a sound bar, anyway, so save your money and buy the cheaper LD OLED tv; the picture quality is just as good.

    Pros: Everything, except sound.

    Cons: Sound is so-so.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Seeing is believing--& I'm a believer in the picture of this set. So real & life like that High Def broadcasts or blu-rays almost appear 3 dimensional. Still trying to figure out all the setting & endless control possibilities. I'm going to have to set myself a viewing limit so that other work around the house gets done. With the price drop I pushed the button on getting OLED & will enjoy it for years to come.

Pros: The deepest blacks, rich colors & amazing detail.

Cons: Having to dig up the pad to read all the instructions for all the possibilities. Would have preferred the option of downloading a full instruction manual too.

    Expensive but worth every penny.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I looked at all the different 4K TV's (LED, QLED) available before buying this LG. So far I have no complaints. Assuming you sit close enough to benefit from the 4K resolution (I do), their is a night and day difference in clarity versus a 1080p LED TV. And it's not just clarity. Comparing this to my old Sony, you get a sense of depth that was missing before. You're not just looking at a two dimensional picture, you can actually tell the difference between objects in the foreground and the rest of the scene. Regarding black levels, it's not just hype. On my old LED TV you could tell the backlight was still on, especially in scenes that mixed light and dark. The dark portions of the screen would "bleed over" giving the screen a washed out feel. Even on pitch black scenes (like when fading to a commercial) you never really got a truly black image. The LG doesn't suffer this problem. There is no washed out effect, no bleed over. The LG's performance on dark scenes is much improved over a backlit TV. If you have a 4K HDR source you'll be amazed at the picture quality. The colors can be a bit jarring at first, but once you get used to it (and after a little tuning) this TV looks phenomenal. I've played several games on the Xbox One X (COD WWII, Destiny 2, Gears of War 4 Battlefront 2) and they all look fantastic. The only thing I haven't seen is the performance of a 4K Blu ray, but I hope to change that very soon. Overall, this is an excellent TV and

Pros: Stunning 4K picture, black is pure black, reasonably quick Smart TV features, good remote (RF not IR), good number of connections, good price if you catch it on sale.

Cons: No backlight on remote, full owner's manual hidden in TV menu/website (unfortunately it seems like this is the way most manufacturers are doing it these days).

Color & movement rivals more expensive TV's

And with my personal home theater surround system, why should I ever want to go out to the movies again when I can enjoy all this from the comfort of home! I love how easy it is to get to the menu to change settings (my friends husband decided the color was too dark and he was right. But he fixed it for me in the snap of a finger). Solid OLED TV. I did a lot of research to compare the OLED vs any near competitor. LG over Samsung, any day. Also, Crutchfield offered the best pricing.

Pros: Beautiful TV. Thin TV. Menu interface is FAST. Magic "mouse" remote makes navigation easier. The stand looks slick, even though I do not use it since it is mounted.

Cons: Bottom heavy. This is only a problem when moving or mounting/initial setup. Hard to carry since you do not want to apply any force on the top part of the TV.

Great picture and the remote has a Netflix and an Amazon TV button - two of our main channels. Sometimes the sound does not work correctly but still a fantastic picture.

Pros: Great picture. It's like being right there.

Cons: The sound does not always work when switching between HDMI ports. Sometimes you have to switch to antenna (which we don't have) to get the sound back on.

    Beautiful TV, great service

Phenomenal TV. Everything you read about the color depth and ultimate black of this TV is spot on, it's a beautiful picture. The webOS software that runs the smart TV is really well done. I've already put aside my Fire because that app on the TV works so well. Really love this TV. Crutchfield was great, and the TV arrived early.

Pros: Gorgeous. Makes 1080 and 4K look spectacular. webOS is a great operating system, works fast. Crutchfield was easy to work with.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have never seen dynamic range like this. I don't even have any 4k media, but HD TV and BluRay movies are upscaled flawlessly. I did have to fiddle with the advanced controls to adjust the picture coming in from my Roku box through an HDMI input. It was too dark, until I adjusted the levels. Over the air HD TV required minimal adjustments. Each source can be adjusted separately, which is convenient when one has multiple inputs. Also, I found that Netflix and 24 fps movies looked best when the Trumotion control feature was turned off. I don't care for the "soap opera effect" that results from the artificial smoothing that results from a high Trumotion setting.

Absolutely the best television we have ever owned. The picture is amazing. We almost feel that actors are popping off the screen and into our living room. The black levels are the best that we have ever seen. We could not be happier with this purchase.

Pros: Picture quality is second to none.

Cons: Manual is a little lacking in detail. The remote takes some getting used to.

Great but needs better support from satellite providers.

Ron from Ruidoso Downs, NM on 11/30/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This tv is way ahead of the satellite signals to make it really shine. Dish signals are 1080 so no matter how good the picture could be until they start broadcasting something higher it won't be as good as it can be. The only way I seem to be able to to get the really great picture is to purchase 4K movies that are really expensive. Although standard blue ray also works you don't get the quality picture. Another caviot at this time dish does not have a remote code for this tv. You have to use 2 remotes to make it work a real pain.

    Pros: Great tv

    Cons: None really.

This is the "daddy" TV for the money. Fabulous for the price. I have sold Audio Video for many years as a rep... and this TV replaced my prized Kuro. The overall picture quality, while using one of the three realistic picture presets, is unbeatable. The TECHNICOLOR setting is especially good. Even with an antenna as a source, watching 720p or 1080i, the picture is excellent. With any version of 4K and/or HDR, the picture is so good it's ridiculous. Truly a great value, if you appreciate the best.

Best black levels I have seen, ever. Love the picture. Colors are amazing. Wish I didn't have to upgrade the rest of my components to support 4K, but even 1080P looks great. I don't use the speakers, so I can't speak to the sound. Only complaint was the VESA mounting holes were small for this size TV. It made the wall mount brackets interfere with my wall plates and cables.

Pros: Black levels, color depth, 4K!

Cons: VESA mounting holes were small for the TV.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This oled panel is simply A m a z I n g, and its almost too good. As long as your picture/video source is putting out a clean signal it will look amazing. I unfortunately had first had experience finding out that Xbox has a known issue with brightness and they're working to address. Netflix running from the console playing Star Wars creating a blooming effect all around the screen just as if it was an LCD. I also noticed faint lines in the image as well which led me to think there was an issue with the TV. I had found an article explaining the issue with the xbox and when compared to the built in apps on the tv, the tv as its source was second to none. Gaming is fantastic! With the 120hz and almost 0 response time from the pixels, everything is noticeably smoother than your regular TV or monitor. The "problem" with this tv which is ultimately not the tv's fault....but its quick response and high refresh rate make it very noticeable when your source is putting out a lower frame rate. For instance as noted in other reviews, you see a lot of judder or some may call ghosting (which is technically not correct) when watching Netflix, TV shows, and games running in the lower 30fps range. The reason you see this is because your source is putting out the frames too slowly and because the tv can react so quickly in displaying the material.....the end result is you seeing more time in between each judder which can be absolutely sicke

Pros: Excellent Colors - Wide Gamut 120hz Refresh Rate supported Black scenes cannot be beat HDR looks great despite not being as bright as some other screens due to there being much more to offer in the dark side of the spectrum. Decent sound although nothing amazing. Excellent price point for the holidays.

Cons: ABL - Automatic Brightness Limiter is definitely noticeable. Some screens may be noticeably brighter than others. I don't quite understand it because the end result seems to be brightening of white text which is not needed. Picture Quality is reliant on a good source, just need to take extra care here. Potential for image retention...I have seen none so far. I'm trying to keep a habit of changing content more frequently however, playing BF1, Battlefront, or Forza, I've had no

Very nice TV. Have used Samsung for past 15 years and find this tv to have better overall color accuracy. Better black, deep contrast, and Viewing angle is 20% wider then 9000 series Samsung LED. Easy setup and installation. Would have give it 5 stars but there is a slight blur when watching some fast action sports. Issue had been noted in most all reviews. Not enough blur to discourage from highly recommending product. Will purchase again when needed

Great TV BUT there is one deal breaker--LG has pretty much broken HDR. LG has implemented an extremely dark HDR profile its most recent FW update. If you are expecting bright and vivid HDR that "pops," look elsewhere. If you are planning on paying OLED prices for a vivid HDR experience, do yourself a favor and look at real HDR content on this TV before you buy (by "real," I mean not the custom tuned HDR loops big box stores have running on the LG OLED sets).

Best TV I have ever owned by far! 4K gaming on my new Xbox One X (what this TV was bought for really) is mind-blowing! HDR with 8 million pixels all working together to give me the best possible picture whether I am gaming in 4K, watching a 4K Blu-Ray, or simply watching my 1080p cable is what I truly wanted. Crutchfield has come through for me again. This is truly the best looking TV anywhere in my opinion.

Pros: 4K picture, HDR, easy setup, options to refresh the pixels after gaming sessions

Cons: 3 foot NON-DETACHABLE power cord, are you kidding me LG??? Needed to put TV on top of 2 inch risers to clear the Polk soundbar

    Picture quality is simply phenomenal

Larry from Pittsburgh, PA on 11/5/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me tell you this. Picture quality of this LG OLED TV is simply ridiculous... :-) And I obviously mean that it is very, very good. I have watched Panasonic plasma TVs and DLP projectors for the last 15 years and tried LEDs but could never get used nor accept the LED technology -- exclusively due to lack of capability to reproduce dark scenes/colors. Well, plasma TVs seems to be dead now (my 8 year old Panasonic is still working great but it is not 4K/HDR by any means lol). I did buy another LG LED 4K/HDR TV (60") recently. I loved the TV; I believe LG did everything possible and impossible to extract every bit of quality from LED panel but... Well, LED could never present blacks and dark scenes like I was used to with plasmas. So I was never happy with that aspect... I know, a lot of people would not care *that much* about dark scenes but somehow I am sure people buying OLEDs do (I certainly belong to that group). One more thing, something I didn't expect, OLED panel reproduces other colors better as well. I am not sure why, but colors look reacher, more vivid, and more saturated (blacks do contribute I guess?) Any issues on my side? Well, my the only problem was that I could not afford the 65" version... lol (but 55" size works really well too). Anyway, great TV, no regrets whatsoever, and highly recommended.

Pros: Picture quality -- cannot get better than this. Default settings are almost perfect and it's very easy to change them. Dual band WiFi (5GHz supported) -- very important if you have a lot of WiFi networks nearby. HDMI Control seems to be working great and better than in my previous LG LED 4K/HDR 60" TV (that had WebOS 3.0 I think).

    Cons: None at this time.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Only reason for 4 stars, would be great if there was a paper manual and I'm not crazy about the remote. I give the picture a 5 star rating, compared to a Samsung quantum dot tv, picture is much richer looking, deeper colors. As the prices come down the Oled picture is well worth the money. I also wish the tv manufacturers would standardized the Vesa pattern on the bigger TVs, 400x400 would be better. This particular tv is 300x200.

    Pros: Deep, rich colors.

Cons: Remote control is not the best, wish there was a paper manual, don't like the Vesa pattern 300x200.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

waited to make the 4k format jump until I saw something that would compare in ways to my old Panasonic Viera plasma (from 2004 or so and on last legs). I never saw a led/lcd whatever that i liked, enter the OLED. Really a superb picture that can be viewed equally well anywhere i sit or stand in the room. I've watched in daylight with curtains open, no problem, watched in black out and felt i was at the theater ! Just amazed and no buyers remorse here. Well maybe some envy I couldn't afford a larger one. In my astronomy hobby I like to use the term "indivisual" as to whether anyone else would like as much as I do, but there is nothing here to disappoint. All our eyes are not the same, and folks taste is what it is, I will just say I am very impressed and happy with this screen. Really wish there was a manual, and some features like the on screen mouse I do not like at all, can't figure out how to make it go away, and I feel the on/off navigation unclear - a manual would go many miles in rectifying the situation. I have not played with any settings for same reason, but then I've had no need to. When i put in a 4k UHD disk in the oppo, the LG put up a message it was altering screen presentation 'OK' type message, previous disk was just normal Blu-ray, so i like that it detects and actions on signal in a sensible logic seeking fashion. Watching over air TV signal, tuner, guide, channel info, all there and easy to use one you figure it out. Do I sound happy? I am.

Pros: Anything you choose about picture, size, weight, performance.

Cons: A paper manual would be really nice, there is a lot to this TV and I think no manual is just moronic, but then i am old and grew up with paper manuals.

I had my eyes on grabbing an OLED TV for at least the past 2-3 years now. I held off for so long waiting for enough 4K content and video game material to be out there before finally pulling the trigger. I was originally waiting until November with the release of the Xbox One X to finally purchase this but this just went on sale this Sunday for $1799 AND a free $150 gift card (AND pay no taxes with Crutchfield) so I could not wait at all. I ordered it Sunday morning and it was here early Tuesday morning. I'm coming from a 3 year old Sony w800b tv and man.....the leap in quality is astounding. I noticed immediately a higher amount of quality in movies that I played on my regular PS4. No its not a 4K player nor do I have any 4K movies yet (waiting for the X1X release next month to start buying actual 4K movies) but man. Colors, clarity, picture quality and of course the blacks. Inky blacks. Its a beautiful thing. So what did I do about 2 hours after my TV arrived? I packed up my regular PS4 and took it to Gamestop and traded it in for a PS4 Pro. No the PS4 Pro does not play 4K blu ray movies disc but it does have SOME 4K HDR games. I brought it home and the first thing I fired up was Horizon Zero Dawn. The leap from regular 1080p to checkerboard 4K WITH HDR is..............amazing. Truly amazing. The only thing I cannot speak on with this TV is sound quality, and that is because I already have surround sound. Buy this TV, you owe it to yourself.

Pros: Everything about this TV is amazing. Everything.....

Cons: I know within a month or two I'm going to wish I bought the 65 inch version instead.....

Best picture available, awesome sound as well.

OLED: "OLED" means organic light-emitting diode, named for the advanced material used in the TV's screen. The secret to OLED is this unique light-emitting diode structure with its electroluminescent layer, a special film made from an organic, carbon-based compound that emits its own light when hit with an electric current. A thin-film transistor (TFT) backplane switches each specific pixel on and off. This configuration enables a thinner, lighter form factor, higher resolution and big, home theater-ready screen sizes. Because OLED TVs do not require a backlight, pixels that are switched off are truly black, so OLED achieves deeper black levels and a higher contrast ratio when compared to LCD and LED-LCD TVs with conventional backlighting. OLED technology also increases energy efficiency.

    • Cinematic Color & True Color Accuracy: The LG OLED TV displays Cinematic Color & True Color Accuracy with a color palette that virtually matches those seen in today's high-end digital cinemas, thanks to its 4 Color Pixel Technology. LG's 4 Color Pixel technology adds a white sub-pixel to the conventional 3 color red, green, and blue that enhances both color range and accuracy. This considerably improves the OLED pixels' ability to express the realistic colors and represents a giant step ahead of conventional flat-panel displays.
    • Perfect Black Panel w/ Infinite Contrast Ratio: As the first display technology that allows self-lighting pixels to switch on and off individually, OLED offers the first "Infinite" contrast ratio. LG OLED TV's self-lighting pixels switch off completely for a Perfect Black Panel. With no light bleed, LG OLED achieves absolute black levels, for infinite contrast. Contrast ratio measures the range from the brightest whites on the screen to the darkest blacks. The deep blacks will offer a greater sense of realism and depth on all content.
    • Absolute Motion Clarity: The critical response time of the LG OLED TV (its ability to refresh the image on screen) is less than .1 microseconds, drastically faster than LCD or LED-LCD televisions. As a result, you get even the fastest action to be dependably crystal clear and virtually blur-free.

10-Bit Panel: Thanks to its 10-bit panel, the LG OLED TV is capable of displaying billions of colors with fine steps of gradation. With so many more colors to express, you'll see a picture that is more detailed and natural when compared to conventional 8-bit panels. The 10-bit panel even holds up from wide viewing angles, so now everyone in the room will have an ideal view of the action.

Ultra HD 4K Resolution & Upscaler: The LG OLED TV has a display resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) and will display all video at that resolution, regardless of input signal, thanks to its Perfect Mastering Engine & 4K Upscaler. 4K provides four times higher resolution than current 1080p high-definition TVs with a total of 8.3 million pixels. Its detail is so vivid and crisp, even when viewed from close distances; it's nearly impossible to discern a single pixel, even from inches away. Enjoy incredibly flawless images, vivid colors, and picture details as never before. More benefits of Ultra-HD 4K include:

    • Greater Sense Of Depth: At 4K, distant objects in a scene can be rendered with greater clarity than at 2K, with more nuances of light and shadow and focus for a greater sense of perceived depth.
    • Better Color: Because pixels are units of colored light, their greater quantity in 4K enables more layered transitions and subtler gradations of tones, so the hues we see up on screen will be truer to what we see in nature.
    • Sit Even Closer: 2K HD TVs carry a recommended viewing distance of three times (3X) the TV screen height, but with a 4K display you can move in to one-and-a-half times (1.5X) screen height without exposing individual pixels. Sitting closer better fills your field of vision, assuring total immersion in whatever you're watching.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) Video: The LG OLED TV supports a variety of HDR technologies including HDR10, HLG HDR, and Dolby Vision. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, bringing greater contrast & wider color spectrum to the screen. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. Previously hidden areas of dark shadow and sunlight are now full of clarity and detail.

    • Active HDR (for HDR10 & HLG): Active HDR analyzes and optimizes High Dynamic Range video content scene-by-scene for an even more striking, more breathtaking HDR video experience. This process allows the TV to offer the best picture possible, even when playing HDR10 content which only contains static metadata, or HLG content which uses no metadata at all.
    • Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata and HLG which uses no metadata, Dolby Vision adjusts brightness, color, and contrast automatically for each scene. Dynamic metadata carries information that maps every image to your TV's display capabilities, so you see more of what the content creator intended. As a result, Dolby Vision delivers incredible brightness, color, contrast, detail, and dimensionality.
    • HDR Effect: The TV's new HDR Effect feature raises image quality for SDR content to near HDR quality. With the HDR Effect feature, SDR images are processed frame-by-frame to improve brightness in specific areas, enhance contrast ratios and render more precise images.

Ultra Luminance & NBO Polarizer: Ultra-HD picture quality becomes even more dynamic with an extended range of brightness, thanks to LG's Ultra Luminance technology. By enabling higher peak brightness (up to 900 Nits) and an enhanced contrast ratio, Ultra Luminance makes 4K & HDR images even more striking. In addition, a NBO polarizer has been added to the OLED TV's existing anti-reflection film to enhance black levels and reduce reflections from ambient light.

Video Inputs: The LG OLED television features HDMI 2.0a and Composite video inputs. All of the television's video inputs are displayed at 3,840 x 2,160 (4K).

    • HDMI 2.0a: The four HDMI 2.0a inputs will accept 4K/HDR (60/30Hz), 1080p (60/24Hz), 1080i, 720p, and 480p video signals. The HDMI inputs not only allow you to connect your Blu-ray/DVD player or Satellite/Cable receiver to the TV, but also a laptop or computer. The television's HDMI inputs do not accept 480i video signals.
      • HDCP 2.2: HDCP 2.2 is supported by all of the TV's HDMI inputs. HDCP 2.2 is short for "High bandwidth Digital Content Protection" and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with 4K Blu-ray players and 4K Satellite/Cable providers.
      • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: All HDMI inputs will support up to 4:4:4 chroma subsampling for full color data rendering of 4K video (60fps). 4:2:2 (60fps) and 4:2:0 (60fps) are also supported by HDMI inputs 1-2. HDMI input 3 only supports 4:2:0 (60fps). With 4:4:4 color, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate, resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more total colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. You must enable 4:4:4 color subsampling in the TV's on-screen menu.
    • Composite Video: The composite video input will accept 480i only. The composite audio/video terminal consists of an AV 3.5mm connector and a 6" mini-to-composite video/stereo RCA adapter.
Note: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners with an RF-coaxial input, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.

Picture Settings: The LG OLED TV provides preset, user, and expert adjustment of the television's picture settings.

    • Picture Size: You can select a different aspect ratio depending on input source (analog broadcasting, digital broadcasting, video input).
      • 16:9: displays an aspect ratio of 16:9

      • Screen Shift: this moves the screen slightly at regular intervals to prevent image sticking on the display panel

Magic Zoom: Magic Zoom enables you to magnify objects and letters anywhere on the screen without any degradation in picture quality, using the included Magic Remote.

Multi-View: The Multi-View feature lets you watch a live TV broadcast and an external HDMI input source simultaneously on the screen. Multi-View provides two smaller side-by-side images that are positioned in the middle of the screen (does not fill up the whole screen).

    Audio Features

Dolby Atmos Support: This LG OLED TV currently supports Dolby Atmos playback via Dolby Digital Plus through Internet streaming apps (like Netflix & Vudu), over-the-air/cable broadcast, and USB 3.0. Dolby Atmos playback delivered via Dolby TrueHD through Blu-ray & Ultra HD Blu-ray is not currently supported, but will be enabled with a software update (no ETA).

ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel of the TV's HDMI 2 input enables the television, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to your AV receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your AV receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.

    • The audio from the TV's tuner, HDMI inputs, and USB ports can pass as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, DTS, or 2ch PCM.
    • LG Smart TV apps (like Netflix or Vudu) can be output as Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or 2ch PCM.
    • Analog connected & DLNA compliant devices will be output audio at 2ch PCM only.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an AV receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 2 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.

Digital Audio Output: The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital/DTS (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital/DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, HDMI inputs, and USB ports on the OLED TV. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via stereo RCA.

Note: You can choose to turn the television speakers off or leave them on with the TV's optical digital output active.

LG Sound Sync w/ Bluetooth: Thanks to the TV's LG Sound Sync and built-in Bluetooth, you can pair a single set of Bluetooth headphones or one Bluetooth speaker with the LG OLED TV. You are able to stream audio from any of the the TV's built-in sources or connected sources. The TV's built-in speakers and audio outputs will be deactivated when streaming audio to Bluetooth headphones or speaker. The Bluetooth audio output's volume is variable, so volume of your Bluetooth speaker will need to be controlled by both the TV and the Bluetooth speaker for adequate volume level.

Note: Not compatible with all Bluetooth devices.

Magic Sound Tuning: With the Magic Sound Tuning feature, you can detect the space where your TV is installed using your Magic Remote's microphone to optimize the audio of your TV for your environment. When the initial detection is complete, you can select your desired audio mode.

Equalizer: The TV provides preset EQ modes. Choose from Smart Sound, Standard, Clear Voice III, Cinema, Sports, Music, or Game. You can also adjust the TV's sound manually by using the 5-band EQ (100Hz, 300Hz, 1khz, 3khz, 10kHz).

    • Smart Sound: The Smart Sound setting automatically adjusts the TV to the optimal sound mode based on data it receives on the genre of the program being played.
    • Clear Voice III: Clear Voice III automatically detects human voices in movies and TV shows, then increases their volume to ensure that the dialog doesn't get lost in the soundtrack. You can make the voice clearer by adjusting to one of the three clarity levels.

Auto Volume: You can set the TV's volume to automatically adjust for different broadcasting stations, so you can always listen to channels at the desired volume, even after switching the channels.

AV Sync: If the video and sound of the television are not synced, you can adjust the delay of the audio output to match the video.

Chose this TV over LCD due to dark room viewing, and black levels. [ Shannon  Oct 22, 2017 ]
Black levels. I cannot leave even with the best LED TVs - blacks are non existent (strictly saying). LG. I have 60" LED LG TV and it is amazing (except, well, black levels). [ Larry  Oct 19, 2017 ]

I have a similar situation with an older receiver. Any of my non-4K devices I can still run through my receiver to the TV no problem. My 4K devices (PS4 Pro and Roku) I connect straight to an HDMI input on the TV and use the optical out on the TV to route audio to the receiver. Works perfectly for now. If I end up needing more 4K inputs in the future, I will probably upgrade my receiver or look into an HDMI switch. [ Michael  May 02, 2018 ]
When hooking up your TV to your receiver install your HDMI cable into HDMI 2 (ARC). That will support your audio with your HDMI connection. [ Josh  Dec 27, 2017 ]
I hooked mine up to the ARC port so that I could route sound from streaming services such as Netflix to the surround sound speakers. [ David  Dec 27, 2017 ]
The dimensions of the stand are 8"x 22" at its widest. Approximately 5" in from of screen. Get it no matter what, it's the real deal! [ Paul  Nov 07, 2017 ]
Approx. 9" x 22.5" (the stand is not a rectangle; the dimensions are for the minimum bounding rectangle) [ Larry  Nov 07, 2017 ]
22" wide in the back, 19" in the front and 6.5" deep. The foot protrudes beyond the plane of the screen about 4".Enter [ David  Nov 06, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Krissy  Oct 24, 2017 ]  Staff
The $680 savings was total savings including the sale and the additional savings for the open box stock level. Open box savings is usually around 10% off the current selling price of a brand new version of the item. HTH! My Bio: [ Paul  Oct 20, 2017 ]  Staff
We have done no testing on these, but they should work together. Bose and LG are both good brands that don't cut corners to meet a price point. I expect them to play well. HTH! My Bio: [ Paul  Aug 21, 2017 ]  Staff
