Overview

Our take on the LG OLED65B7A

Each summer a group of A/V industry experts holds a "TV Shootout" where a handful of the finest TVs available face off. And for the fourth year in a row an LG OLED model has taken the top honor. The winner was LG's 65" E7P model, but LG's entire 2017 OLED 4K TV lineup uses the same panel and video processing. So, although it costs a lot less, this 65" OLED65B7A will deliver the same spectacular picture that won over the expert judges at the TV Shootout.

"LG's OLED wins 2017 TV Shootout"

Each summer a group of A/V industry experts holds a "TV Shootout" where a handful of the finest TVs available face off. And for the fourth year in a row an LG OLED model has taken the top honor. The winner was LG's 65" E7P model, but LG's entire 2017 OLED 4K TV lineup uses the same panel and video processing. So, although it costs a lot less, this 65" OLED65B7A will deliver the same spectacular picture that won over the expert judges at the TV Shootout.

What is OLED?

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. The OLED screen material is an organic substance that glows when it's activated by an electric current. The screen's pixel layer is made of this self-illuminating carbon-based material — each pixel is its own light source which can be independently switched on and off, so there's no need for a backlight with all its limitations.

Infinite picture contrast, absolute black, and the widest viewing angles available

Each and every OLED pixel — actually every sub-pixel — can switch off completely, producing absolute black. It's this ability that gives OLED it's unbeatable contrast and black levels. LG's OLED design also delivers brilliant colors. In typical TVs, each pixel is made up of three sub-pixels — red, green and blue — to create the color palette. LG's 4 Color Pixel technology adds a white sub-pixel to enhance both color range and brightness.

Actually, LG's 2017 OLED models achieve 25% higher peak brightness than last year's models, and offer a larger color palette. The OLED65B7A vividly demonstrates the extraordinary realism of the latest 4K content, both streamed and on 4K Blu-ray. And if you often watch TV with family or friends, you'll be impressed at the way OLED images maintain exceptional contrast and color even for viewers seated off to the sides.

Enjoy a premium HDR experience with more content

Lately, TV makers have shifted their focus from building TVs with more pixels, to technologies that result in better pixels that produce more vivid, colorful, and lifelike images. The most important of these is HDR (High Dynamic Range), which expands the picture contrast range with both deeper blacks and brighter highlights. You can find HDR-enhanced streamed video content from Netflix® and Amazon Instant Video, and on virtually every 4K Blu-ray movie.

The OLED65B7A not only supports the required HDR 10 format, but also the more sophisticated Dolby Vision™ format, which is a dynamic system that is able to adjust brightness and color levels in response to the video signal on a scene-by-scene basis. LG's Active HDR circuitry analyzes and optimizes HDR 10 content scene by scene, bringing it closer to what Dolby Vision achieves.

LG's webOS 3.5 — spend less time navigating and more time enjoying

The '65B7A's built-in web apps give you instant access to a nearly limitless selection of entertainment including streamed video from services like Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu. The colorful webOS 3.5 user interface lets you customize your home screen to access the apps you use most, and easily switch between them.

LG's motion-sensing Magic Remote is simple and fun to use. You can point, click, scroll and even speak into the remote to find exactly what you want, searching across apps, movies, TV shows and the web, all at the same time.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wonderful picture! Blacks truly "plasma black" ! I've been a Samsung QLED consumer - but this LG has swung me to the OLED technology following. I have to admit - the picture color range is comparatively superior to QLED. Sorry Samsung - your "advantage" is no longer apparent on its face... - as it were...

    Pros: picture price OLED technology

Cons: Better tone customization is needed for TV sourced output using TV speakets.

    Excellent OLED TV

The LG OLED is the best picture I have seen. Saying it is awesome would be an understatement. The colors are vivid and the blacks provide a great backdrop. Being priced below other competitors products makes it even more appealing. The staff at Crutchfield were great in helping me make an informed decision in selecting the right TV for my specific needs. I would definitely recommend this model and brand.

Only two manufacturers make OLED tv's and one is LG. Excellent screen with great rendering of pictures. Upgraded from a 10 year Sony and pretty happy.

Pros: Thin panel, deep black, WebOS is easy to navigate, sharp pictures

    Cons: None for now

TV is great but takes some maneuvering to get DirecTV to work without annoying lip-sync. This should be addressed in the manual but wasn't. Manual is weak but can be overcome. Almost returned it but once i got past this hurdle, the TV is great.

Pros: Exc Picture fairly easy to navigate

    Cons: Had trouble with lip-sync

Best value high-end picture quality TV

Chi from Erie, CO on 6/12/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was debating between LG OLED and Samsung QLED technology. After tons of research online and reviews, I went with OLED, specifically the OLE65B7A model for the following reasons: - Best value for the money. OLED65B7A is 2017 model. Its price is coming down to make room for the 2018 model. Meanwhile, there is very little added value from the 2018 model. Same video processor (i.e. A7 processor) and same OLED panel. - Best picture quality. To get the same level of picture quality, one much go to Q9 model on Samsung QLED, which adds ~$2k to price tag. QLED will be brighter than OLED, but I found OLED is plenty bright in a well lit room. - No need to use internal speaker system. B7A offers less quality speaker than C7A. I use an external sound system; hence, I could save more money by going with the B7A model. The initial setup was fairly easy. I used to have my Blu-ray player, cable set-top box and streaming device connected via my AV unit. Given OLED TV is a smart TV, I routed all these devices to the TV that has 4 HDMI connections. I used the built-in popular streaming app such as Netflix, Amazon, instead of Chromecast or Blu-Ray player. The WebOS 4.x is very responsive and easy to use. I probably spent more time reconfiguring my AV system than setting up the OLED TV. With its smart universal remote, I could control key functions of all my devices. Unfortunately, I still need to keep the device remotes.

Pros: -Good value -Best picture quality -Great construction quality

Cons: -strong glare reflection with bright windows -smart remote cannot be a true 'universal' remote to replace device remotes

    Exceptional picture

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Exceptional picture. Screen is a little flimsy with the lack of support anywhere but along the bottom edge...be careful!

    Pros: picture quality is unmatched

Cons: Form factor is a little flimsy. Could easily break if you have to move it a lot.

    Excellent TV

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent TV, coming from a Panasonic 58" S2. Maybe a bit more glare but picture quality is equal and maybe even better. The connectivity features are awesome and pair easily to our wireless earbuds so we can watch tv with sound over the baby's white noise. Crutchfield is our go to when it comes to electronics. Thank you again, we are very happy with this TV!

    Pros: Picture Connectivity

Cons: The mount LG makes isn't very adjustable.

Beautiful! The picture is crystal clear. The Dolby Vision and HDR bring everything to life. Watched hockey, baseball, basketball, movies, etc. already and it delivers. The LG wall mount (not included) hangs the TV extremely easy. Crutchfield support was extremely helpful in getting me set up with the TV and some new audio pieces to bring the whole thing together. They are great.

Pros: None that come to mind

After MANY conversations with the Crutchfield experts...I made an INFORMED decision to purchase the LG OLED65B7A 4K HD television. If it's quality you're looking for, if it's picture and true color quality you're looking for, if it's most bang for your buck you're looking for....look no further! This is THE one.

Pros: The upgraded television I was looking for. After many conversations with the 3xperts at Crutchfield, the LG OLED 65" 4K HD television is what I settled on. I have only one word that would describe this unit. AWESOME!!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am so happy with this TV. Having near perfect blacks really makes the colors pop in HDR. The user options menu and remote are easy to use. The one thing that took some time to figure out was how to activate HDR for the specific HDMI port I was plugged into. But that was the only issue I've had so far. I've been using the TV for several hours each day with no issues and no problems with burn in yet. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend this TV to anyone.

Pros: Beautiful picture quality Ease of menu and remote use No lack of connection ports

Cons: TV tends to wobble a little when using the included base.

    The Upgrade that's worth it!!

I would consider this the best bang for your buck!! There are few options for OLED screens of this size and price range - LG hits the mark for a great upgrade if what you currently have is 3+ years old and want to experience 4K with HDR. I am completely satisfied with this choice!!

Pros: Great picture!!! Easy to setup and use the controls. Price for the size

Cons: You have to feed the TV good content in order to get the best picture. Do not get this unit if you are thinking you can enjoy up-converted SD only!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I went from a Pioneer Kuro Elite 60" to this new LG OLED not expecting to be blown away, but I've been blown away. Granted my previous TV was 8 or 9 years old but it's long been considered one of the best displays ever made, so my eyes have been spoiled. This new OLED, wow, the image quality is unreal. I'd read a lot of pro reviewers saying HD to 4K won't offer any noticeable difference in picture sharpness when sitting at a normal viewing distance. It makes sense, so I don't know if this is just some type of placebo effect, but I feel like the image is noticeably sharper even sitting around 12' from the TV (could also just be from HDR). BTW, according to the match, I probably should've gotten a larger screen but the wall spot for my TV wouldn't accommodate a bigger TV. I'd also read OLEDs aren't very bright, but haven't had any issues with brightness (I have the "OLED LIGHT" setting at 22 out of 100 and it's plenty bright). I have mine hooked up to an Oppo UDP-203 UHD Blu-ray player and an Apple TV 4K. 4K content looks amazing but even HD content is noticeably better than on my previous display. The sound, as with a lot of TVs these days, is passable but would highly recommend some type of external sound to properly match the image quality and get a much better experience. I'd also suggest checking out rtings.com for a baseline set of settings to get started and adjust from there (most likely get mine professionally calibrated as I did my last TV).

Pros: +Picture quality is amazing +WebOS is very responsive +Interface is really easy to understand and get around +Wii-like Remote makes it super easy to get around the settings

Cons: -Sound (as with most, if not all TVs these days) lacks bass and mids -Built-in Dolby Atmos doesn't do the technology justice w/o a true Atmos speaker setup, and pass-through via ARC is a compressed version (will probably have to wait for eARC which will most likely require new hardware, but I don't think most people have true Atmos setups anyways)

    GREAT

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not only is this a great TV for the price, just read the rave reviews all over the net, but the whole delivery process was great. Any misgivings about the delivery process were totally dispelled. The UPS freight service was courteous, fast, secure, and went like clockwork. All in all, a truly (I hate to say it again) GREAT experience. :)

Pros: Terrific bang for the buck. A whole new viewing experience awaits.

Cons: Yes, new technology will eventually better it, but you have to stick the shovel in sooner or later and thankfully, Crutchfield will always be there for you.

Quick delivery - ordered on Friday got it Tues (Monday was a holiday). Easy set up - Picture is great - color more intense (richer) than our LED flat screen - rich contrast (blacks) - watching pro hockey is awesome with this screen.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing is amazing!!! Looks great in the store but watching 4K content at home is even more impressive. Blacks - I thought my Panny plasma had good blacks. This thing- WOW. Blacks look like the screen is turned off. Not joking, deep, deep blacks. Yes the price is more than other sets but the picture quality is totally worth it. I can't stop watching it!!! I did have some lip sync issues but all was addressed using built in sound sync settings. Also be sure to turn off the energy saver feature as it negatively impacts picture quality/ brightness.

Pros: Black levels - unreal levels

Cons: Cost - but it's worth it!

WOW, what a wonderful purchase! I really appreciate the over one hour that Crutchfield rep Carson spent with me on the phone. I was unsure what TV to buy and he was very patient in guideing me through the many choices. Even though I made my purchase just before Christmas, the TV was delivered in a very short time. This is the third TV that I have purchased through Crutchfield. I highly recommend their wonderful service with lifetime technical support. As for my current TV, its the BEST!!!! After setting up the TV, I went out on the internet to find the peak settings = time well spent. I am so happy with this purchase ????

Pros: Great natural color. So clear.

Cons: I should have purchased this sooner :)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Based on consumer and professional reviews, I have been planning to purchase an LG OLED TV for a while. When the prices came down for Black Friday, I couldn't pass it up. I purchased an OLED55B7A and an OLED65B7A to replace an old Sony DLP and a Sharp LED TV. I have not been disappointed. The picture is fantastic. I purchased the basic model since I use surround sound systems and not the TV speakers. The screen and picture quality are the same as the upgraded models. I initially had an issue with voice syncing, but was able to resolve it using the AV Sync Adjustment in the sound set-up menu. Make sure you have have a strong wifi signal or use an Ethernet cable or the firmware and app updates could take a very long time.

Pros: Great picture. Very deep blacks. Crutchfield service was great as usual.

Great picture! Much better than my 2016 Samsung 4k. Good App suport. I love the remote. You just point at what you want on the screen and click, no more scrolling.

Pros: Best picture you can get(at the time I'm writing this review). Extremely dark blacks. In fact it can be hard to tell wether the TV is in or off without checking for the little red standby light. Nice remote.

Cons: Nothing glaring that I can think of. Maybe the sound isn't great but that goes for pretty much any TV.

    Pros: Great picture

Cons: Too thin - made me nervous to handle it

    Outstanding Television!

Amazing television! This is my second LG OLED, having purchase the 55" model last year from Crutchfield. This larger model is even better, with seemingly improved contrast. All my 4K sources (Apple TV and Oppo UHD player) work seamlessly with outstanding Dolby Vision/HDR support. You cannot find a finer television than this is my opinion. Very highly recommended.

Pros: Amazing picture, great contrast and detail.

Cons: Setup is somewhat complicated due to all the available options.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This 65 inch OLED TV has the most amazing picture I've ever seen on a TV. It's so good, it's almost like watching 3D TV. You feel like you are actually in the picture. While this TV is pricier than other TV sets, it is in a class all of it's own. There are no other TV sets regardless of brand, including LG non-OLED TVs, that come close to this TV. The QLED by Samsung, doesn't compare, not even close. So it is worth the extra money to get THE best picture available. Plus it's slim design looks great in the room.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought it for my wife as I rarely watch TV. She loves it. It was easy to set up. Crutchfield shipped it very fast & it was SUPPOSED to arrive in 3 days. They shipped it through a second class freight company (UPS Fright, not the UPS brown trucks you know). Here in San Francisco Bay Area they offer no class service. We are a commercial address yet they were 2 days late. They lied saying that they had phoned us. We are open during business hours & we have 24 hour voice mail. This is our second (out of two) bad experience with UPS Freight. UPS (the Brown trucks) is a vendor to us & this comment is not about them. I had to phone Crutchfield asking for help getting the delivery. My previous experience told me nothing would happen by me phoning UPS Freight. The woman I spoke with was excellent. She did everything that she said she'd to to help. She called back exactly when, possibly by coincidence, that UPS Freight was delivering the TV. The Crutchfield price was hundreds of dollars less than local stores.

    Pros:

Cons: Regarding the SET UP: We found the DO THIS FIRST papers AFTER we had it set up & working. They were buried in a sealed bag buried beyond everything. There was no problem. We did not touch the screen or lift by any portion of the screen. We did see something warning us about that.

I couldn't ask for anything more out of this TV. The picture is extraordinarily clear, even my wife who couldn't care less about TVs has remarked several times about how great it looks. I wondered whether the speakers would be sufficient because the primary difference between the b7a and c7p are 2 less speakers in the b7a, but audio quality is great. Very happy I chose this tv!

Great so far! Picture is so lifelike that my dog has become very confused on multiple occasions while watching Planet Earth in 4K HDR. Only downside is that SDR/cable content through Fios does not look nearly as good, which I understand, but I guess I did not expect the difference to be so dramatic. In any event, so far the TV is meeting and exceeding expectations.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield's saying two day delivery seems a bit of a stretch. It's shipped 3 day non-guaranteed freight. Due to Thanksgiving mine took a week to reach me in NY. Un-boxing requires using the boxes components to support the screen during installation of the base. The screen is very thin and must be supported to prevent breaking from it's own weight I guess. The magic remote is an interesting hybrid of technology. It doesn't seem to work entirely with infrared signals. As a result, programming a Harmony remote can be a challenge since the remote doesn't use readable infrared that can be copied by the Harmony. As a result I had to find a similar LG remote that had the infrared codes. I used the codes for a LG 65UJ6540 TV for which Harmony has direct input switching codes (not available if you use the any LG OLED model as the basis). It also provides infrared codes for Pause Play and Stop functions that can be used with Netflix or an attached blu-ray player (the magic remote didn't have stop at all and pause was a non-infrared signal). As many of us don't have expensive 4K capable receivers, the lack of an Audio Return Channel pass through option so you can get HD audio back to the Receiver seems like a big miss. With the LG U875 blu-ray player attached to HDMI 3, I only get DTS at my receiver instead of DTS HD Master Audio stream. This seems like a major knock by customers so hopefully LG can and will fix it with firmware updates. The firmware needed

Pros: Great picture. Over 100+ internet channels (if you sign away your privacy)

Cons: Un-boxing is a bit complicated but step by step instructions are included. Audio Return Channel (ARC) does not pass through bitstream audio. You'll only get DTS out of a DTS HD Master Audio stream using the ARC. ARC only available on HDMI 2. Firmware update needed out of the box.

    It really is that good

Good tv. Despite what professional reviewers say, for the average user the picture is only mildly better than a 4K LED. Having to get a manual on-line and printing it out, if need be, is a nuisance. Figuring out the operation of the tv and the settings, and calibrating to one's tastes, takes an hour or so. WEB-OS is fast and the wand is handy. The app presentation is annoying and visually unsavory with its slanted multi-colored presentation.

Love the tv. I bought this to replace a 50" Pioneer kuro plasma, so the bar was pretty high. The resolution is amazing, and the blacks and brightness are really jaw-dropping. I have a surround system so can't comment on the sound quality from the tv. But the picture is amazing, and the remote, features, settings, and WebOS all work great. As others have stated, it would be great if WebOS had more content apps (HBO, Showtime), but I have an Apple TV, and I could buy add-on channels too, so even those aren't huge deals for me.

What an amazing screen! I replaced my aging Samsung DLP display with this one, and the difference is amazing. The dynamic range of the OLED is phenomenal, and the colors are so much richer, that I want to re-watch all my favorite movies to see new levels of detail. The on-screen controls are pretty intuitive to figure out, and in the advanced menus LG lets you tweak the built-in picture settings to bring out the best in this panel. Some folks are disappointed when looking at 5% grey screens, but frankly I can't see any banding with actual content even when looking for it. I rely on my Apple TV for Netflix, Hulu, etc., so I can't really comment on how well those apps run on the TV's operating system (during setup I didn't allow any of the tracking cookies or monitoring-I trust Apple with my privacy more than LG!).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fantastic picture quality at a great price. If you have an AVR/home theater speaker array, there is no reason to spend more on a 65" OLED TV. The sound from the TV is not at all bad, however. The audio return circuit (ARC) on HDMI 2 input is great. The TV remote turns on the Yamaha AVR and controls volume level for the 5.1 home theater sound. All input is from high speed internet streaming or OPPO UDP, so I cannot comment on lower quality video input. I really can't say enough about this purchase. My wife complains that the 4K resolution is too detailed. I think she's nuts. The TV was well packaged/protected and arrived intact. It is easily unboxed by one individual, but requires two to lift it onto a table. LOVE THIS TV!

Pros: OLED picture quality. audio return circuit on HDMI 2 input. Price. Remote control. One click Netflix access. Audio quality surprisingly good (although recommend home theater speakers & AVR) User interface/SMART TV

Cons: No HBO Now option on TV. (Obviously, HBO Now can be streamed with an external media server such as Apple TV)

OLED: "OLED" means organic light-emitting diode, named for the advanced material used in the TV's screen. The secret to OLED is this unique light-emitting diode structure with its electroluminescent layer, a special film made from an organic, carbon-based compound that emits its own light when hit with an electric current. A thin-film transistor (TFT) backplane switches each specific pixel on and off. This configuration enables a thinner, lighter form factor, higher resolution and big, home theater-ready screen sizes. Because OLED TVs do not require a backlight, pixels that are switched off are truly black, so OLED achieves deeper black levels and a higher contrast ratio when compared to LCD and LED-LCD TVs with conventional backlighting. OLED technology also increases energy efficiency.

    • Cinematic Color & True Color Accuracy: The LG OLED TV displays Cinematic Color & True Color Accuracy with a color palette that virtually matches those seen in today's high-end digital cinemas, thanks to its 4 Color Pixel Technology. LG's 4 Color Pixel technology adds a white sub-pixel to the conventional 3 color red, green, and blue that enhances both color range and accuracy. This considerably improves the OLED pixels' ability to express the realistic colors and represents a giant step ahead of conventional flat-panel displays.
    • Perfect Black Panel w/ Infinite Contrast Ratio: As the first display technology that allows self-lighting pixels to switch on and off individually, OLED offers the first "Infinite" contrast ratio. LG OLED TV's self-lighting pixels switch off completely for a Perfect Black Panel. With no light bleed, LG OLED achieves absolute black levels, for infinite contrast. Contrast ratio measures the range from the brightest whites on the screen to the darkest blacks. The deep blacks will offer a greater sense of realism and depth on all content.
    • Absolute Motion Clarity: The critical response time of the LG OLED TV (its ability to refresh the image on screen) is less than .1 microseconds, drastically faster than LCD or LED-LCD televisions. As a result, you get even the fastest action to be dependably crystal clear and virtually blur-free.

10-Bit Panel: Thanks to its 10-bit panel, the LG OLED TV is capable of displaying billions of colors with fine steps of gradation. With so many more colors to express, you'll see a picture that is more detailed and natural when compared to conventional 8-bit panels. The 10-bit panel even holds up from wide viewing angles, so now everyone in the room will have an ideal view of the action.

Ultra HD 4K Resolution & Upscaler: The LG OLED TV has a display resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) and will display all video at that resolution, regardless of input signal, thanks to its Perfect Mastering Engine & 4K Upscaler. 4K provides four times higher resolution than current 1080p high-definition TVs with a total of 8.3 million pixels. Its detail is so vivid and crisp, even when viewed from close distances; it's nearly impossible to discern a single pixel, even from inches away. Enjoy incredibly flawless images, vivid colors, and picture details as never before. More benefits of Ultra-HD 4K include:

    • Greater Sense Of Depth: At 4K, distant objects in a scene can be rendered with greater clarity than at 2K, with more nuances of light and shadow and focus for a greater sense of perceived depth.
    • Better Color: Because pixels are units of colored light, their greater quantity in 4K enables more layered transitions and subtler gradations of tones, so the hues we see up on screen will be truer to what we see in nature.
    • Sit Even Closer: 2K HD TVs carry a recommended viewing distance of three times (3X) the TV screen height, but with a 4K display you can move in to one-and-a-half times (1.5X) screen height without exposing individual pixels. Sitting closer better fills your field of vision, assuring total immersion in whatever you're watching.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) Video: The LG OLED TV supports a variety of HDR technologies including HDR10, HLG HDR, and Dolby Vision. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, bringing greater contrast & wider color spectrum to the screen. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. Previously hidden areas of dark shadow and sunlight are now full of clarity and detail.

    • Active HDR (for HDR10 & HLG): Active HDR analyzes and optimizes High Dynamic Range video content scene-by-scene for an even more striking, more breathtaking HDR video experience. This process allows the TV to offer the best picture possible, even when playing HDR10 content which only contains static metadata, or HLG content which uses no metadata at all.
    • Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata and HLG which uses no metadata, Dolby Vision adjusts brightness, color, and contrast automatically for each scene. Dynamic metadata carries information that maps every image to your TV's display capabilities, so you see more of what the content creator intended. As a result, Dolby Vision delivers incredible brightness, color, contrast, detail, and dimensionality.
    • HDR Effect: The TV's new HDR Effect feature raises image quality for SDR content to near HDR quality. With the HDR Effect feature, SDR images are processed frame-by-frame to improve brightness in specific areas, enhance contrast ratios and render more precise images.

Ultra Luminance & NBO Polarizer: Ultra-HD picture quality becomes even more dynamic with an extended range of brightness, thanks to LG's Ultra Luminance technology. By enabling higher peak brightness (up to 900 Nits) and an enhanced contrast ratio, Ultra Luminance makes 4K & HDR images even more striking. In addition, a NBO polarizer has been added to the OLED TV's existing anti-reflection film to enhance black levels and reduce reflections from ambient light.

Video Inputs: The LG OLED television features HDMI 2.0a and Composite video inputs. All of the television's video inputs are displayed at 3,840 x 2,160 (4K).

    • HDMI 2.0a: The four HDMI 2.0a inputs will accept 4K/HDR (60/30Hz), 1080p (60/24Hz), 1080i, 720p, and 480p video signals. The HDMI inputs not only allow you to connect your Blu-ray/DVD player or Satellite/Cable receiver to the TV, but also a laptop or computer. The television's HDMI inputs do not accept 480i video signals.
      • HDCP 2.2: HDCP 2.2 is supported by all of the TV's HDMI inputs. HDCP 2.2 is short for "High bandwidth Digital Content Protection" and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with 4K Blu-ray players and 4K Satellite/Cable providers.
      • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: All HDMI inputs will support up to 4:4:4 chroma subsampling for full color data rendering of 4K video (60fps). 4:2:2 (60fps) and 4:2:0 (60fps) are also supported by HDMI inputs 1-2. HDMI input 3 only supports 4:2:0 (60fps). With 4:4:4 color, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate, resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more total colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. You must enable 4:4:4 color subsampling in the TV's on-screen menu.
    • Composite Video: The composite video input will accept 480i only. The composite audio/video terminal consists of an AV 3.5mm connector and a 6" mini-to-composite video/stereo RCA adapter.
Note: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners with an RF-coaxial input, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.

Picture Settings: The LG OLED TV provides preset, user, and expert adjustment of the television's picture settings.

    • Picture Size: You can select a different aspect ratio depending on input source (analog broadcasting, digital broadcasting, video input).
      • 16:9: displays an aspect ratio of 16:9
      • 4:3: displays an aspect ratio of 4:3

    Audio Features

Dolby Atmos Support: This LG OLED TV currently supports Dolby Atmos playback via Dolby Digital Plus through Internet streaming apps (like Netflix & Vudu), over-the-air/cable broadcast, and USB 3.0. Dolby Atmos playback delivered via Dolby TrueHD through Blu-ray & Ultra HD Blu-ray is not currently supported, but will be enabled with a software update (no ETA).

ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel of the TV's HDMI 2 input enables the television, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to your AV receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your AV receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.

    • The audio from the TV's tuner, HDMI inputs, and USB ports can pass as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, DTS, or 2ch PCM.
    • LG Smart TV apps (like Netflix or Vudu) can be output as Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or 2ch PCM.
    • Analog connected & DLNA compliant devices will be output audio at 2ch PCM only.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an AV receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 2 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.

Digital Audio Output: The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital/DTS (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital/DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, HDMI inputs, and USB ports on the OLED TV. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via stereo RCA.

Note: You can choose to turn the television speakers off or leave them on with the TV's optical digital output active.

LG Sound Sync w/ Bluetooth: Thanks to the TV's LG Sound Sync and built-in Bluetooth, you can pair a single set of Bluetooth headphones or one Bluetooth speaker with the LG OLED TV. You are able to stream audio from any of the the TV's built-in sources or connected sources. The TV's built-in speakers and audio outputs will be deactivated when streaming audio to Bluetooth headphones or speaker. The Bluetooth audio output's volume is variable, so volume of your Bluetooth speaker will need to be controlled by both the TV and the Bluetooth speaker for adequate volume level.

Note: Not compatible with all Bluetooth devices.

Magic Sound Tuning: With the Magic Sound Tuning feature, you can detect the space where your TV is installed using your Magic Remote's microphone to optimize the audio of your TV for your environment. When the initial detection is complete, you can select your desired audio mode.

    • Bass Mode: Selecting this option outputs Magic Sound Tuning-adjusted audio with an emphasis on bass.
    • Treble Mode: Selecting this option outputs Magic Sound Tuning-adjusted audio with an emphasis on treble.
    • Off: This option disables the use of Magic Sound Tuning-adjusted audio. Selecting this option outputs your TV's default sound without making any adjustments to it.

    • Smart Sound: The Smart Sound setting automatically adjusts the TV to the optimal sound mode based on data it receives on the genre of the program being played.
    • Clear Voice III: Clear Voice III automatically detects human voices in movies and TV shows, then increases their volume to ensure that the dialog doesn't get lost in the soundtrack. You can make the voice clearer by adjusting to one of the three clarity levels.

Auto Volume: You can set the TV's volume to automatically adjust for different broadcasting stations, so you can always listen to channels at the desired volume, even after switching the channels.

Any generic one will work unless you want something particular. I used my old mount for a 55" Samsung and it works just fine. [ Aaron  Jun 28, 2018 ]
I did not wall mount it but know you can locate a sturdy mount on Amazon. [ Jed  Jun 28, 2018 ]
hey chris, it does have the red, white yellow 3 way connector, but never tried it. it will not work with my bose 321 surround system, so bought a samsung 4k dvd and a lg dolby atmos surround bar. I also bought a 400 dollar set of headphones that use the optical jack. Just watch out with this tv. I have had 2 tvs burn panel out. guess the 2016-17 models have same panel. and my steinhouser headphones do not work with the 4k direct tv service, others have had this problem, problems too. I would find out if the 2018 model has a new panel and wait few months if it does or buy a extended warr. as I have gone without tv as much as I have had it. hope this helps [ tom  May 30, 2018 ]
Yes, but I would use HDMI where possible. [ TIMOTHY S  May 29, 2018 ]
I run about 20hrs per week on my PS4. Most are marathon sessions. No issues so far, and all the games I play have some type of radar/hud on the screen. I've had the TV for about 2mos. I can tell you, it is the best picture I've ever seen! [ Matthew  Nov 14, 2017 ]
