The LG Plasma 50 inch is better than was expected. More features than we really need, Family has come over and think it is a quality product. LG has done it again. If your purchase this you will be very satisfied. Way to go Crutchfield, Free shipping and fast

Pros: Very easy to set up it does most of it by itself it could not be easier. Great picture, very clear once you get it to your liking. Very happy with the purchase so far

Cons: Digital audio is blocked. Can only connect audio through HDMI, Have to purchase a new receiver with HDMI input to run through my Bose speakers. This is my only complaint about this TV.

LG 50PM6700 plama smart HDTV

Ron from Baltimore, MD on 4/23/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Hook up was easy although I had to use HDMI port #4 to make a connection to the set top box. I am presently unable to control the TV via the set top box remote, but I will havre to look into the TV settings to see if there is a set top box slave switch. The TV cobntrols are pretty intuitive though somewhat touchy as the center buttons are close together. I took some time to get used to. The WiFi set up was flawless and very quick. I downloaded the latest firmware upgrade and commenced to adjust the picture to my liking. The colors are brigter and sharper than our Sony 42" LCD. The black levels are also darker and one can easily see the impoved contrast. The built in TV speakers are more than adquate for normal channel viewing. We have not tried the 3D mode but the special RF controlled active shutter glasses are on order (they did not come with the TV).

Pros: Best plama image I have ever seen. Seamless software integration. Lowest cost and best value for the money of any type of HD Smart TV.

Cons: Tricky TV remote. Set top box remote will not control TV volume. (this may not be a tv issue)

LG 50 inch plasma 3D

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For my first 3D tv it is great. Although I have not viewed the 3D on it, I can however comment on the HD Picture and it is beautiful. I do wish it had came with the 3D glasses. I have to purchase them separate and I'm. It really liking that.

Pros: Picture quality is amazing and I am pleased with this picture.

Cons: You have to purchase 3D glasses separate.

very nice tv, great deal. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Pros: the picture quality is very good and the pivoting stand is definitely useful.

Cons: there are two aspects of this tv Im not too fond of, the speaker quality isn't the best and the only audio out port is an optical digital audio port.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far so great. Beautiful picture, easy setup for the TV and wireless, firmware update went without a hitch.

Pros: 50" plasma smart TV with wireless - the only thing better would be bigger!

Cons: Remote is a bit clunky. I find the LG remote app for my phone to be better.

THX woah! THX was the Main purpose we brough this model which have a decent price for the size and quality. After set up the big screen, the first thing we did was update it latest software. Because I have some technical knowledge, Setting to your like is a little get use to but for foke just want to watching daily broadcast and some bluray or dvd is a 1, 2, 3 setting. OK we have make a big deal about THX and yes it a big deal for most part. First of most or all of us seen the logo video THX in theatre or sometimes on DVD or Bluray. Because they represent quality of sound and picture, manufacture who make speaker must have minimum sound qualify to be certified and manufacture for acceptional picture quality to pass THX guideline for certified. It matter so much to hearing impair person in the house. He can't believe that he can hear better with a pair of 2.1 THX speaker and now with this 50" clearly displace image and subtitle for his need. I found a few who doesn't like the color on THX setting which make the picture look brown or yellowish. I have found that after go to the main screen and set for THX, I closed the main menu and click on top the remote for quick A / V selectional and scroll left / right (you might pass by the first THX set from the main setting so keep pass on) to find A / V setting and their it is, another sellection for THX, now we both happy with our setup. I recomment to first time for big screen or decent price for higher quality enjoyment.

Pros: picture quality outstanding. Sound is as good as a TV suppost to be (get a sound system if your ears require more). 4 HDMI is plenty, component when need. Energy star which is about $21 a year for normal usage was a supprise when my older 36" TV cost 3X as much. THX certified is a big major bonus for this model. LG 50PM6700 is a third generation plasma which have better technology for burn-in prevention setting

Cons: Could include one pair of glasses or at least one eye glass just for 3D try out. My two cats giving me a heart attack everytimes they playing around center stand support cause the whole sceen rocking a little. Some glare when you have the house light on (Note: all TV will have glare when you light direct to the screen) (Dim or light Off for us went we watch a movie or hours show anyway). Careful with the burn-in on plasma for first 200 hours by not let any still image over a hour or so.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looking for a new TV with a good picture and internet based connectivity. Reviewed a slew of sets [mainly LED's] and finally came to the realization that to get both I would have to be in the $1600 and up range for a decient LED one. Besides, many of the LED sets had reviews of questionalbe performance claims. I went with the plasma mainly for the picture quality [great blacks - contrast, little fast action motion concerns and overall design] . This set has good connection features [connects to most everything, including a PC - where the best internet searching is to be found.] Noone, I fould, makes a really PC like browser built-in. All this, and more, for a great price.

Pros: Super picture, almost endless adjustment possibilities. Can set custom picture settings two times for selected inputs. I do over-the -air HD recption, and the picture is great. I had satelite and I really think the direct broadcast is better quality.

Cons: One con is with the standard remote. I am not ham-fisted, but I think the buttons are a little too small and close togeather. Too often I hit the 'Main Apps' button going for the up arrow. Would it have killed them to make a larger one. The only other con I have is with the 3D glasses. [see my seperate review on that] Should come with the set.

Love this TV, with caveats

lithoman from Finger Lakes on 12/30/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is, so far, a pretty nice TV. I waited a long time to commit to the price of a flat-screen - did the research and carefully decided what I wanted. This TV has it all. 3D Plasma in a slim case, 4HDMI inputs as well as those for composite, PC, USB (2) and Ethernet. I initially had it on the included stand, which was a snap to set up and is very stable, but have since wall mounted it - also a fairly uncomplicated procedure. The picture is awesome, but did require some tweaking on my part. Everybody has their own preferences, so it's a good thing that almost any adjustment you'd like is easily accessed through a click of the 'Settings' button. The only criticisms I have so far concern the remote, and they're not serious. The first is a warning to the buyer. If you research this unit, you might find that, according to LG, it comes with the AN-MR300 Magic Remote, a scroll wheel device that works through an on-screen mouse pointer. My set did not come with it, including instead the standard AKB73615336 remote. I have no beef with Crutchfield, as their description does list this model number, but I did the research first and assumed it would be the same no matter where I purchased it. Some of the buttons on the remote are a bit too close together, which is a particular problem with those around the periphery of the arrow selector - it's a bit too easy to accidentally hit the wrong button. Large but mostly useless apps menu. Pandora would be a welcome addition.

Pros: Great picture, great features at a very nice price point. Easy to set up & use.

Cons: Less than ideal remote - some buttons too close together, Magic Remote not included if purchased from Crutchfield. App for Pandora not included.

Bad ghosting

DB from Wichita, KS on 11/7/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Image ghosting is my primary concern. I haven't figured out yet what causes it cuz it does not appear to be consistent. The basic characteristic is when a white screen follows a screen with a large menu, a residual ghost image of the menu remains on the white screen. The ghosting is why I scored the TV 3 stars.

Pros: Basic picture quality is good. Nice color saturation. Nice 1080P processing as well as up-scaling of SD and 720P. 3D is very immersive once you get into a movie.

Cons: Active 3D glasses are initially very distracting. The biggest con is regarding picture ghosting.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I researched Plasma vs Led Tv's for about a month before buying this LG Plasma. When looking at Tv's at stores, the LED Tv's definitley look better. But one of the deciding factors was what a sale's person told me...He said "All the representatives i deal with have Plasma Tv's,for thier superior overall picture quality".I went with my instincts and then pulled the trigger on this LG Plasma.I'm very glad I did.Really just an incredible picture.Plenty bright too as it's in my very bright living room. After watching a Netflix Science documentary about the history of the SUN,my wife even commented how incredible the colors are on this Tv.For setup I just used the Setup Wizard and turned off the Power saver.I did notice some soap opera effects, but then did the internet update with LG and it's gone.If you decide to purchase this TV you'll be more than satisfied.Crutchfield also was very helpful and I recieved the Tv in four days.

Pros: Incredible clear picture with great colors.

Cons: TV speakers are just OK.Will be getting a sound bar or other small system to improve that.

50" HDTV

Avery from Ann Arbor, MI on 8/2/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This TV is fantastic. Wonderful picture quality, easy to set up. Very attractive thin frame. As I just moved from an old 26" set, I can't really say if this new TV is any different from other 50" HDTVs, but some friends with other sets have raved about this one. The swivel stand is a particularly useful feature.

My first Plasma tv and first 3-D

Jerry from Fort Bragg, CA on 6/4/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had no idea 1080p high definition TV was so, well, high definition! The images are sharp, the blacks are black and the experience is almost overwhelming at first. Our first 3-D movie was an IMAX about the Grand Canyon. I watched it in 2-D before the special glasses came and then the family watched it with the 3-D glasses. The experience was just unbelievable and fun. I'm buying more 3-D blue-ray disks now... I would only give a 5-star rating if something was beyond just really good.

Pros: Excellent picture; 50" seems to be the right size for us; the whole thing looks really, really good. Crutchfield advisers were on the phone with me to walk me through connections, etc. to make sure it worked.

Cons: To make it work best you need HDMI all through your connections. There are so many options that it is difficult to get it correct without help.

Image Sticking Minimization (ISM): A frozen still picture displayed on the screen for prolonged periods can result in a ghost image. The TV's ISM prevents images from sticking or removes ghost images. There are 3 ISM modes.

  • Normal: If image sticking is never a problem, ISM is not necessary - set to Normal.
  • Orbiter: Orbiter may help prevent ghost images. However, it is best not to allow any fixed image to remain on the screen. To avoid a ghost image on the screen, the image will move every 2 minutes.
  • Color Wash: The color block with the screen moved a little and the white pattern are alternately displayed. It is difficult to see the after image on all colors. Once it has been corrected it will not be visible in any color.

Audio Features

Sound Optimizer: This function optimizes the sound based on the environment in which the TV is installed (Normal, Wall-Mount, Stand).

Virtual Surround: Infinite Surround is a patented LG proprietary sound processing technology that delivers immersive 5.1 surround sound with just two front speakers.

Sound Modes: Sound Mode lets you enjoy the best sound without any special adjustment using factory presets. Standard, Music, Cinema, Sport, and Game are preset for optimum sound quality. You can also adjust the TV's sound manually by using the 5-band EQ (100Hz, 300Hz, 1khz, 3khz, 10kHz).

Clear Voice II: Clear Voice II enhances and amplifies the frequency range of the human voice to help keep dialogue audible when background noise swells.

Auto Volume: Auto Volume makes sure that the volume level remains consistent whether you are watching a commercial or a regular TV program. Because each broadcasting station has its own signal conditions, volume adjustment may be needed every time the channel is changed. This feature allows users to enjoy stable volume levels by making automatic adjustments for each program.

Screen Off: You can turn the screen off and only sound is played through the television's speakers.

Digital Audio Output: The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the TV tuner. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the television via HDMI, RCA, or USB.

AV Sync: If the video and sound of the television are not synced, you can adjust the delay of the audio output to match the video.

ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel in HDMI 1.4 enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to your A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input. The audio from the TV's tuner, network connection can pass as Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM. HDMI, USB, and analog connected devices will be output as 2ch PCM only.

Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 1 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

there wasnt much setting up to do other than plugging the tv in. You are prompted for set up by the tv itself. Its a smart TV so you just follow the questions on the screen! I love this tv! [ KIMBERLY  Apr 12, 2014 ]
This TV was very user friendly. I was able to hitch up the cable lines and then just turn the TV on. The on screen step by step walked me right through the complete set up. I found it to be very easy. I have been viewing this TV for some time now without any further change or need to re set up anything. Bob [ PATRICK S  Apr 04, 2014 ]
If you can operate a smart phone you should be fine. Typing wifi passwords from the remote can be a pain but most settings are fairly simple to deal with. [ JIMMY  Apr 04, 2014 ]
It's quite big, so you will need some help to lift it and set it up where you want, but once that part us finished, it only took is minutes to set up. The instructions are very good. Our only caution is not to put this TV in a very sunny room. We initially set it up in the living room which is very sunny and the picture quality was awful! We were afraid we'd have to send it back, but moved to our family room which still has sunlight, but not directly in the TV, and the picture is flawless!!! We couldn't believe the difference and are extremely happy with our purchase. Hope that helps! Best wishes [ CHRISTOPHER  Apr 04, 2014 ]
its quite easy but its on the heavy side. [ STEPHEN  Apr 04, 2014 ]
Do not know if you have cable or satellite but once you hook it up the LG set will set itself up. You just have to answer a few questions. Cruthfield techs will help you and answer all your questions. Really like the set. My family really like the picture. [ Joseph  Apr 04, 2014 ]
Marybeth, this is the greatest tv I have ever had it is a snap to set up you won't have any problems I hope you enjoy it as much as I do good luck. [ ALLAN  Apr 04, 2014 ]
I have a son and grandson who set up the TV and helps me when I have problems. Sorry I am not any help. [ JEAN  Apr 04, 2014 ]
for me it was pretty simple. all you have to do is connect the hdmi cable from the cable box to the tv. the cable wire goes in to the cable box. that is pretty much it. on the tv go to the menu and pick the hdmi option that lights up. [ MARTIN S  Apr 04, 2014 ]
