Overview

Our take on the Infinity Primus 250

Looking for big sound from a pair of tower speakers? The Primus 250 floor-standing speakers take advantage of Infinity's proprietary Metal Matrix Diaphragm (M.M.D.™) driver technology to produce cleaner, more realistic sound even at high volumes. The M.M.D. material features a stiff aluminum core, which greatly reduces cone breakup that causes distortion. The 3/4" tweeter and dual 5-1/4" woofers can easily fill larger rooms with impressive stereo sound. They do a great job with home theater audio, too. With a pair of 250s as your front left and right speakers, movie soundtracks and special effects will play out loud and clear!

Simply Amazing

SoulWave from New York, NY on 2/17/2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well...what can i say. I bought these with a pair of 150s on the back, the C25 for the front and the PS10 as the bass module. They are absolutely astonishing. I moved up from Inifinty's HTS20 which was a 5.1 surround system that had about a year and a half. The old system sounds great, nothing that you can say considering the small size of the satelite speakers, but this set of 250s paired with the others mentioned above, simply bring everything to life. I've tried out the sub with all sorts of music and it will simply not let you down. The sound goes way down deep in music and movies. Tried it out with the Master & Commander DVD, and the gun shots literaly shake the room. Simply amazing, pure, rich, soft and yet powerful sound. I'm running them on an Onkyo TX-NR801, and now i can finally say that they are just made for each other. Will upgrade to the TX-SR804 soon, just for the THX Select 2 option and the HDMI up-conversion.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are rock solid, I used them in conjunction with the 8 inch Infinity sub, and was very happy with the overall sound. That being said, I was using this set up for a customer of mine that we also installed a 92 inch projector screen in a 350 sq. ft. room. Needless to say he was impressed with the sound and picture. He now has a real home theater, and I will use these speakers for other future customers. I hope this will help anyone who is on the fence on theses. Their best quality is their mid-treble reproduction.

Good Sound that is affordable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just bought these speakers along with a pair of Primus 150 bookshelf speakers and a Primus C25 center channel. I am impressed with the quality of these speakers for the very low price. They sound good even though I think I need a little bit stronger receiver. You definitely need a subwoofer for the low end. For someone just starting out in a home theater system that wants something better than a HTIB, these speakers are a good choice. The price I think is resonable for what you get. Eventually I think I will also get the Primus 360's to expand my system to 7.1, even though 250's are loud enough.

Great sound, but can't handle 95 watt Yamaha receiver

Ron from Fort Collins, CO on 1/1/2006

I've owned these speakers for over a year, and when they're working, I absolutely love them. I bought these primarily for music listening - I'm not into home theater. As such, I love to fill the living room with sound. I have a 95 watt Yamaha receiver (V-650) that I paired these with, and have blown 4 tweeters with this receiver in the past year. I've read that they can handle 150 watts, but that hasn't been my experience. I've even had the crossovers replaced, but still no luck.

Overall, I really enjoy these speakers, but if you like to blast your music, look for another set of speakers.

Simply, WOW!

John from Central Kentucky on 4/27/2005

I've had a pair of these now for several months (from crutchfield) and with a Harmon Kardon AVR 235, I'm lovin' it. I'm running ALL Infinity Primus series; 7.1 system for excellent voice matching. DVD surround sound will have the neighbors knocking at your door. I've been a big fan of Infinity since 1988 and I've never looked back. For price and quality, they can't be beat.

Good speakers

Nik_P5 from Gainesville, FL on 3/8/2005

Wow this speakers are amazing. Infinity definitely built a great set of speakers. The bass coming from 5 and 1/4 woofers are quite impressive. If you are looking for loud bass you will probably want to get a subwoofer. Other than that, the speakers are really clean and crisp music. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a good clean system.

Features

Metal Matrix Diaphragm (M.M.D.): All of the speakers in the Primus Series feature Infinity's proprietary Metal Matrix Diaphragm (M.M.D.) drivers. Derived from the C.M.M.D. material used in Infinity's flagship Prelude drivers, M.M.D. features a stiff aluminum core, anodized on both sides for increased strength and rigidity. M.M.D. transducers deliver crystal-clear, distortion-free sound from dynamic digital sources, even at high listening levels.

Woofers: The dual 5-1/4" M.M.D. cone woofers conduct sound faster than paper, polypropylene and Kevlar found in many similarly-priced speakers, pushing unwanted resonances beyond the operating range of the transducer. For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use a rubber surround.

Tweeters: The speaker utilizes a 3/4" M.M.D. dome tweeter and waveguide to deliver a wider, more even, high-frequency response.

Bass Reflex: There is a single port tube opening on the front of each speaker for increased and extended bass response.

5-Way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, dual banana plugs and bare wire. Note: Plastic inserts must first be removed from the speaker terminals before connecting banana plugs or dual banana plugs.
