Overview

Our take on the Klipsch RP-280 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System

If you're a fan of Klipsch speakers — like many of our customers — then this top-of-the-line Reference Premiere speaker system hardly needs introduction. Pair it with a good home theater receiver, and you know it's going to dish out hard-hitting surround sound, and plenty of it. Let's just say that when you crank it up, it's entirely possible that the neighbors will know it. Will they be pleased? Hard to say. But invite them over, and they may just end up wanting a set for themselves.

This system can really deliver the goods with music sources, as well as movie and TV soundtracks. All by themselves, the front pair of floor-standing speakers can fill a big room with rich, detailed, immediate sound. Factor in the potent powered sub, and you can expect your two-channel music sources to sound live and dynamic.

The system includes:

  • a pair of Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-280F floor-standing speakers (in ebony)
  • the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-450C center channel speaker (in ebony)
  • a pair of Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-250S surround speakers (in black)
  • the Klipsch Reference R-115SW powered subwoofer (in black)

The dynamic sound of Klipsch Reference Premiere

We're used to hearing great things from our customers about Klipsch's signature sound. One technology that helps create that famous Klipsch sound is the horn-loaded driver. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area, boosting dynamics and efficiency. The Reference Premiere speakers that make up this system's front, center, and surrounds all use a newly developed Hybrid Tractrix® horn design that delivers a wider sweet spot with more precise spatial imaging. They also use copper-colored Cerametallic™ woofers that deliver smooth, articulate sound, as well as lending your system a striking appearance when you take the grilles off.

Klipsch RP-450C center channel speaker

Klipsch's Cerametallic™ woofers, shown here on the center channel, deliver smooth sound and have a striking look.

Big-time bass

Klipsch rounds out the package with their powerful Reference R-115SW powered subwoofer. Its high-output 400-watt amplifier pushes a 15" Cerametallic woofer for quick, precise movement, minimal distortion, and deep, bone-crushing bass even at concert-hall volume levels. The front slot port helps minimize turbulence for cleaner sound. And since the port is in the front, you won't hear unwanted "boominess" from sound reverberating off your walls and floor.

There are front covers. Not sure about the power source. I guess i should look into that. [ JACOB  Dec 13, 2017 ]
Yes, they come with magnetic snap-on covers. I have a Yamaha A2050 Receiver - more than enough power for these speakers. [ KLAUS  Dec 13, 2017 ]
Yes, They come with detachable covers. I bought a Denon AVRX4300H 9.2 Channel for this setup, although you don't need this many channels I bought this one because I had pre mounted ceiling speakers. The Denon has worked great so far and the speakers are awesome. [ Cole  Dec 13, 2017 ]
Yes they all have covers. We have children and dogs so it is ideal. The power source, honestly does not need to be excessive to get good sound. Of course if you what to push them to the limit, then you will want an external amp to bi-amp the fronts. However, this is not needed. I simply run a Denton 9.2 as I have atoms as well and they sound great! the denon 9.2, I think is around $700 on crutch field is a great receiver for these and will provide very solid sound. There are several options for speaker wire we carry that would work with the Klipsch RP-280 5.1 Home Theater System. In order to figure out what's the best fit for your specific room size and/or budget, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. They can discuss all the options with you and offer a more personalized recommendation. [ Larry  May 22, 2017 ]  Staff
Thanks for your question. The only way to do that would be to purchase each piece separately since this is a package deal. When purchasing separately it would only be about $10 less to choose the 12" sub. Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Mar 31, 2017 ]  Staff
The subwoofer has it's own built in amplifier, so there is no need to worry about powering that. The other speakers are rated at between 100 and 150 watts RMS. Most of our home theater receivers will work just fine with this speaker package. I'd recommend contacting an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss features and such. The feature set can vary pretty widely on home theater receivers and they'll be able to help you find one that will be a perfect match. [ Jeff  Sep 10, 2015 ]  Staff
