Overview

Our take on the AudioQuest FLX-14/4 14-Gauge 4-Conductor In-Wall Speaker Cable

AudioQuest includes sequential footage markers to simplify measuring. Directional arrows tell you which way the signal should flow through the cable for the best sound. Plus, with a 4-conductor cable, you can run just one cable from your amplifier or receiver to a pair of speakers or in-wall volume control, so you'll have just one cable to pull, secure, and identify.

Four-conductor design means one less wire to run

Cross section

This four-conductor in-wall speaker cable from AudioQuest sports an advanced, high-performance design for impressively detailed sound. It features 19 precisely arranged, tightly packed strands in each conductor for excellent signal transfer and low distortion. Plus, twisted pair construction minimizes radio frequency and electromagnetic interference for crisp, clear, noise-free sound.

Keep your home and family safe with in-wall-rated speaker wire

When you're running wire inside your walls, it's important that you use speaker cable that's approved for in-wall runs. This cable's CL3 certification means it passed NEC (National Electric Code) safety tests for in-wall usage. AudioQuest's FLX cables are also rated for direct burial. You can run them to your outdoor speakers and bury them in the ground without a protective conduit.

Solid as a brick

John from New York, NY on 8/29/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is SOLID stuff! The reel itself weighs more than most normal-sized humans. :-) This cable is designed for direct burial, and it shows (in fact, in my installation, it's not only buried in dirt and run through an underground conduit it shares with sprinkler soaker pipe, it's snaked between the stones in an exterior rock wall and mortared over-- and I'm not the least bit concerned about its health). Like Monster Cable before it, I'm a little bit confused as to its "directionality"-- it has that little arrow that shows the optimal signal flow-- I'm not sure of the technical justifications behind it, but I obeyed it nonetheless. Smaller details-- it strips easily and cleanly, which is a plus... I really can't find anything bad to say about this cable.

Pros: Solid, well-made, strips easily, inspires confidence for weird, direct-burial scenarios

Cons: None

Excellent product

Edward from port orchard, WA on 2/25/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased two 125 feet spools of this cable. One of the Spools was short by about 25 feet. Sent several emails to this seller but no response. This product was shipped quickly Kudo to Crutchfield.com. Removed monster cable original, which was 12 gauge wire. The Audioquest cable was 11 gauge went to the leads are tied together.

Pros: The sound quality of this cable was outstanding ..heads and shoulders above the monster cable. All of this cable was installed in Wall or in ceiling. Easy pull through walls and ceiling.

Cons: nothing

In wall installation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very impressed with the quality of this wire. It slides easily through the studs in the wall. I used electrical staples to hold the wires in place. This was installed before the walls were installed in new construction. I'm completely happy with the product.

Pros: Great quality wire. Easy to run long lengths. Fire safety rated!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is easy wire to pull through wall, cabinets, etc. The title of the review is to show one of the conventional wire naming schemes for four conductor speaker wire. (I did not find this on this website) The only problem with "four lead" is that eventually it has to be divided up to get to the separate speakers. For a clean install heat shrink tubing or cable wrap can make it look nice. Of course, this is not important if the cable is out of sight. The free included speaker cable labels are great. Tip: circle the label around the wire loosely without touching the encircled cable and touch the two adhesive tips of the label first and then press the label together as you press towards the cable not vice versa. This keeps the labels from not meeting properly.

Features

Overview: The FLX-DB14/4 in-wall speaker cable has four 14 gauge conductors to supply wiring for two speakers, or bi-wiring for one speaker. Using Semi-Solid packing, the individual copper strands within the bundle don't change position, resulting in reduced distortion. The long grain structure in the low distortion, oxygen free, high-conductivity copper AudioQuest uses results in a natural sound, uncolored by the cable. The Star-Quad geometry lowers cable inductance, reducing susceptibility to external noise sources.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

The AudioQuest 4 conductor in-wall speaker cable is a perfect solution for running two speaker cables from the Sonos Connect Amp in my living room to two Polk Atrium 8 SDI outdoor speakers on my deck. The reason that I chose the 4 conductor over a 2 conductor wire is due to a unique feature on the Atrium 8 SDI where a Single/Dual input switch and dual tweeter array lets you work the speaker as a single high/performance stereo loudspeaker. 4 conductor minimizes the number of cable pulls needed.[ Russell  Aug 10, 2017 ]
Think of it as Monster Cable only shielded for in wall use.[ O  Feb 01, 2017 ]

I'm not sure. If I had to guess, I would say yes.[ Ron  Jun 25, 2017 ]
I think so, but I never had to do it because I ran through the walls and under the floor so it's not visible. This is an excellent product when the connectors a try together you have 11 gauge pretty darn good.[ EDWARD  Jun 24, 2017 ]
Country of origin is China.[ Kenny  Apr 05, 2016 ]  Staff
yes, absolutely I have not had heat issues with the cable[ EDWARD  Jun 24, 2017 ]
That seems perfectly logical to me. When practical I would use solder to connect the wires together to ensure you get the consistent lower resistance over time.[ STEVE R  Feb 16, 2016 ]
