AudioQuest's highest-performing tier of audio interconnects leads off with Water. Each cable features three solid copper conductors to virtually eliminate electrical and magnetic interference that can add brittleness to the sound.
Water's solid conductors are made of AQ's Perfect Surface Copper+. Proprietary metal-processing technology protects the wire's surface at every stage of drawing and fabrication. When high-purity low-oxide copper is kept as soft, pure and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion Perfect Surface Copper+ conductor.
Most higher-end cables require a break-in period before they perform at their best. A charge builds up in the insulation through continual use, increasing the efficiency of the cable. This charge can dissipate when the cable's not in use, giving you less than optimal performance until it builds up again.
AudioQuest's Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) eliminates this break-in period. A small battery pack attached to the cable polarizes the insulation with a 72-volt charge, giving you clear, expressive sound from your system every time you turn it on. This also helps eliminate the time delay that can create audio distortion.
Water's XLR plugs feature new connectors and new pins. The connectors are fastened by cold welding — a solder-less process that uses high pressure and silver paste to minimize signal loss. By contrast, solder tends to impede the signal, and the heating of the copper conductor during soldering can negatively affect its performance.

Solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) Conductors: Solid conductors prevent both strand-to-strand contacts and magnetic interaction, major sources of distortion. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered as a rail-guide for both the electric fields within a conductor, and for the magnetic fields outside the conductor. The astonishingly smooth and pure surface of all AudioQuest's Perfect-Surface metals nearly eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity compared to all other premium coppers. The extreme purity of PSC+ further minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries, which exist within any metal conductor.
Dielectric-Bias System: Creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This dramatically reduces dielectric induced smearing of the signal, letting sound emerge from a 'black' background.
Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) + Polyethylene Air-Tube Insulation: Shields-the-shield, reducing RFI contamination of the equipment ground plane. Almost no contact between conductors and insulation further reduces smearing and preserves dynamics.
Triple-Balanced Geometry: The three conductors in "Triple-Balanced" Water cables ensure that the XLR plugs' positive and negative signals have equally low-distortion conducting paths. This 100% coverage shield is never used as an inferior conductor.
Cold-Welded Hanging-Silver + Copper Plugs: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability. Red Copper offers a cleaner, clearer sound than the nickel-plated or OFHC metals commonly found in other manufacturers' plugs.
