Our take on the AudioQuest X2 Speaker Cable

Compared to commonplace 16-gauge wire, AudioQuest's X2 speaker cable reduces resistance over longer runs, so your high-quality components and speakers will get the cleanest, most accurate signal possible. As a general rule, the lower the gauge, the thicker the wire, and the better its capacity to pass amplified audio signal.

AudioQuest's cable designs come from years of in-house research and careful engineering. Their X2 speaker cables use a special semi-solid concentric arrangement that keeps the bundled strands in the same position throughout the length of the cable. The signal encounters less potentially damaging interactions and shifts in magnetic environment, resulting in sound that's clearer and more dynamic. The conductors are made of long-grain copper to ensure efficient signal transfer with minimal loss.

Hands-on research

Product Research

Overview: This package contains a 30-foot length of Audioquest X2 speaker cable. This 14-gauge wire comes in a dark gray PVC jacket. The speaker wire is unterminated, allowing you to add your own optional connectors. The jacket features a red stripe along one conductor to help you make the proper connections.

Design: Audioquest X2 speaker cable features Semi-Solid concentric packing. In conventional multi-strand speaker wire, strands can change position within the bundle. Electrical and magnetic interaction are compounded as each strand changes position, causing distortion. Audioquest's Semi-Solid concentric packing, the long-grain copper strands within the smaller, tighter concentric bundle do not change position, significantly reducing distortion.

2 questions already asked

There's an important piece of information missing from the question: the length of the run. Assuming the runs to each speakers aren't "long," which to me means anything exceeding 10 feet, I would answer no: it doesn't make any difference if you use 14 or 16 gauge. [ PHILIP S  May 06, 2016 ]
Strip all the way to bare copper, only as far back as you need to avoid possibly shorting against adjacent wires. There are hand tools that you can purchase at an electronics store that will help you do this properly and avoid cutting into the copper . This stuff is way too tough to use your teeth. [ C  Apr 25, 2014 ]
Hi, Kathy. Definitely strip it down to the wire...but just where the connection is. Best, Jon [ JONATHAN C  Apr 25, 2014 ]
It dosen't have an inside jacket, when you stripe you get directly to the copper. By the way these are excellent audio cables. Still loving them after 2 plus years. [ JOSE C  Apr 25, 2014 ]
Kathy, strip the wires so the jacket is removed exposing 1/2 inch of the conducting wire. You'll want the exposed conductor to make good contact with the conductor of the speaker port or wire your attaching it to. I hope this helps. [ PETER J  Apr 25, 2014 ]
Remove about 3/4-1"at the connector end. Bare wire if you use the hole in the post twist the wire as tight as possible.then thred it thru the hole in the post .one for +,one for - .there's a stripe on one of the conductors if you use this for positive at speaker end do same at amp end. If you're handy with a souldering iron tin the bare ends of the cables it will make for a neater job with no stray wires . [ PAUL  Apr 25, 2014 ]
I stripped it all the way to bare wire. [ MICHAEL T  Apr 25, 2014 ]
