Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I like it a lot... back yard is pleasantly filled with music.
Disguise your outdoor sound with the Klipsch® AWR-650-SM. This stealthy speaker imitates an actual rock to blend in seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. It sports a 6-1/2" woofer for deep, punchy bass and two 3/4" tweeters for crisp highs. This dual-tweeter design allows the '650-SM to play both channels of a stereo signal with precision and clarity. You can also use two of these speakers for a conventional stereo setup in a larger area. Plus, the UV-resistant enclosure ensures you'll enjoy smooth sound at cookouts and pool parties for years to come.

Speaker has surprisingly rich sound for such a light speaker. It sounds amazing and clear with good bass. Purchased for my fire pit area outside - may only need 1 since the sound is so rich.
Pros: Great sound and looks like a rock - perfect for my mostly rock fire pit area.
Cons: None so far.
Wow. I wasn't sure about buying rock shaped speakers, even if a Klipsch product, and my wife and I were blown away. The rock speakers were going to be side speakers to go with a set of bose 251's we had on the list (backordered). The Bose were going to attach to the house, but after hooking up the rock speakers our entire backyard (about 1300 sq ft) is filled with music AND most importantly "quality rich sound". You don't have to crank (unless you want to). Also rich bass tones. We decided to put the Bose on hold. You see the speakers in the pic next to the red planter and green planter.
Pros: Rich Tone. You can crank. Full spectrum from bass to highs.
Cons: None to mention at this time.
Replaced a ten year old rock speaker with this product" So far superior to what I had. Let's see how it weathers a Ohio winter.
I don't know much about speakers or stereos. These were easy to install and sound great! Love the speakers!
Great speakers, easy install. They sound great. My only wish was a little deeper base from subwoofer.
Pros: Great sound, easy install
Cons: Wish there was little deeper base from the subwoofer
These sound great! And the staging is PARTICULARLY good. I think the two-channel mode is a bit of a waste, and it makes wiring them somewhat annoying (they don't follow my color code-- according to them, red and white are positive, green and black are negative), but that's a small quibble. Bass was initially lacking, but once I EQ'd them through my amp to push the bass, they really came alive. And, of course, the whole reason why you get these in the first place, in the granite color I chose they actually look pretty reliably like rocks. I have them in a small garden behind some hydrangeas, and you would never know they were speakers-- you wouldn't even know they were there, even after you hear them.
Pros: Great sound staging; they really look like rocks!
Cons: Weird wiring setup; somewhat light and plastic-y. They LOOK more like rocks than they FEEL
I installed two of these on my deck and powered them with a Sonos Connect Amp. They sound great! Of course I wish the setup was cheaper, I did get them scratch and dent (they were perfect) and I couldn't be happier. The Crutchfield advisor was excellent also. thanks
Pros: Nice look, blends in well, sounds great at low and higher volume levels.
Cons: A little pricey to do a stereo pair.
We purchased 3 speakers. They sound is awesome and look fantastic in our backyard. Just what we were looking for and so happy.
Pros: Great sound!
Great product. Love the sound. Very happy with my purchase.
So far the speakers have been excellent. I have them connected to a sonos amp which powers it by the pool and it sounds fantastic. The bass is very defined and have received many compliments from family and friends while at the pool.
Pros: great sound great bass blends very well with my surrounds
Cons: none so far
Clean, crisp sound from these speakers. At first, the bass didn't sound too great but after minor adjustments I got it to a level where it sounds great! The acoustics part of a song and the voice just sound so clean, definitely worth the money for this pair. The sounds reaches far into my yard and around the pool. The charcoal color mixed in well with our lava rock and some moss boulders around it. Overall, you won't be disappointed with the sound coming off these speakers for the price!
5 stars for outdoor speakers. Overall good to very good sound quality across the spectrum prior to any break in period. Maybe be best in single channel setup but two channel is still better than most outdoor speakers I've heard. Easy to setup and place. Surprisingly good bass especially when positioned near wall or in corner. Great value for the money.
Amazing bass for this speaker! I now have 4 of these speakers strategically placed throughout my backyard. I highly recommend these for anyone who is looking for a discrete speaker.
very happy with them. Good Bass,
I have reviewed and listened to many outdoor speakers, but the Klipsch AWR-650-SM are by far and away the best sounding outdoor rock speaker on the market for under $500.00. The blend of the highs and bass and overall clarity are nothing short of spectacular.
Pros: Price, Sound, Clarity, Cosmetics
I bought a set of these speakers a little over a month ago and they have performed admirably since then. Short term weather does not seem to have an effect. The sound is wonderful.
These speakers "rock" I installed these under our deck where we have a finished patio with Jacuzzi. We have a small 20' strip of flowers there with mulch. After running my speaker wire (14gauge) to the speakers I pointed them into the center of the patio...one on the far left, one on the far right. These sound awesome with wonderful bass response even with the Jacuzzi running.
Pros: Cant go wrong with Klipsch. Buy them. They look real, not too heavy, and look great in any landscaped area. The speakers have just enough weight to keep them to the ground. Klipsch provides a landscape hold down steel peg with each speaker for added security to the ground.
Cons: I was timid in wanting to spend $300 per speaker... would have been nicer to purchase as a set for $300....but they are worth the money!!
These speaker sound awesome. The bass response is EXCELLENT for an outdoor speaker. They play loud and clean. So well in fact that I've already had a few conversations with the neighbors since I installed them. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 since one of my speakers won't play in stereo. The others all work fine. I'll update my review after talking to Crutchfield support
Pros: Loud, clear, and great bass.
Cons: See above
Purchased this speaker to replace a blown KLH rock speaker. Tried using one speaker since it can be hooked up to reproduce both channels. The treble and midrange are incredibly clear but I ended up ordering a second speaker to hear the separation of the two channels.
Pros: Great crystal clear highs and midrange
Cons: Bass is ok but not as good as the KLH that these replaced. Price is high considering they are made in China.
Great product you wont dissappointed with these speakers. Blends in with landscape nicely. Lifetime warranty need I say more.
I have had these for two seasons now and they are wonderful. I was a little skeptical because of the price, but with the warranty and quality, they are perfect. The sound is very deep and rich. the sandstone color looks somewhat fake, but I have them on both sides of my patio (about 38ft apart) pointing to the center of my patio (think of a triangle), and because of their location I do not see them very much. So the color does not bother me. The bass is surprisingly deep and that gives the sound a full feel. I recommend spending the extra $$$ for these.
Not only do the Rock Speakers look great in my newly landscaped yard, but the sound is truly amazing. I now have Klipsch throughout my house. I sent my Bose back. I am glad that there is finally an outdoor rock speaker worthy of praise.

Drivers: The Klipsch All-Weather Rock speaker (AWR-650-SM) is a two-way, dual channel design using a single high performance bass driver for the low frequencies and a pair of Polymer dome high frequency tweeters for wide, even coverage inside a bass-reflex enclosure with a side-firing port. The Rock speaker features a dual voice coil 6-1/2" polymer woofer and two 3/4" polymer dome tweeters. The speaker's dual tweeter design allows it to play both left and right stereo signals with precision and clarity.
All Weather Enclosure: The Klipsch AWR-650-SM is constructed of durable weather proof materials such as fiberglass enclosure and powered coated aluminum grilles that are UV-resistant. The Rock enclosure houses a durable polymer woofer cone and polymer dome tweeters. This ensures that the rock speaker will look and sound good for years to come regardless of environmental extremes. The Klispch All-Weather Rock speaker is perfect for lawns, gardens, patio, decks or any other place where exposure to the elements makes conventional loudspeaker usage unsuitable.
Speaker Configuration: The AWR-650-SM can be configured as a single two channel speaker, or used in pairs as single channel speakers. The AWR-650-SM is provided with a 4-conductor cable to connect either 1 or 2 audio channels. Each channel on the AWR-650-SM has an 8-ohm impedance when connecting both channels of the speaker. When joining the inputs for a 1 channel connection, the AWR-650-SM becomes a 4-ohm speaker.
Wire Splicing: Unless the AWR-650-SM will be connected to an amplifier/receiver directly using the 3' speaker lead, wire splicing to a separate set of high quality, moisture resistant speaker cable will be required (sold separately). The Rock speaker comes with five wire-nuts to add additional speaker wire.
Placement: Due to its aesthetic design and up-titled orientation, this Rock loudspeaker is designed for low or ground level placement. If a single AWR-650-SM is connected in a two channel configuration it is best to center the speaker on the preferred side for even coverage. To achieve the bets performance from a pair of AWR-650-SMs, place them on the same side of your intended listening area and space them 8 to 20 feet apart. For a higher quality stereo image some degree of toe-in, toward the primary listening area may be required to achieve the desired effect. Some additional Bass will result if you place the speaker in a corner or near a wall.
Securing The Speaker: The Klipsch AWR-650-SM is includes a security eyelet on the underside of the speaker. This permanent eyelet can be used to attach the supplied security cable to the supplied metal stake for added security.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: If you want to use the Klipsch rock speakers as a theater set up with one being the center channel that will definitely work. I don't think you would have any issue at all doing it. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Thanks for your question. No it is not wireless. It has 3 ft of speaker wire that is already preattached to it. Hope that helps. [ Kenny Jun 14, 2016 ] Staff
