Ready, aim, music!

The CDT-5800-C II's tweeter provides wide dispersion for consistent sound, and it swivels, so you can aim the sound precisely where you need it to go. You can even rotate the 8" woofer a full 360 degrees and tilt it up to 15 degrees in any direction. This flexibility gives you full, detailed sound no matter where you place the speaker. Plus, tweeter and mid-bass level switches let you adjust the sound to suit your personal taste and your room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn." This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound.

Keeping a low profile

The CDT-5800-C II stays inconspicuous with its Slimtrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the CDT-5800-C II in new construction.

Features

Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT): The Klipsch CDT-5800-C II in-ceiling speaker features a patent-pending gimbal mechanism, known as Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT). The tweeter and woofer are independently adjustable, allowing both the high and low frequencies to be directed toward the listening area.

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-ceiling speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 95dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

Drivers: The Klipsch CDT-5800-C II uses a high-quality 1" titanium dome compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with an 8" Cerametallic woofer in a 2-way design.

  • Tweeter: There is a 1" titanium dome compression tweeter mated to a swiveling 100° Tractrix Horn. The swiveling horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter. The pivoting tweeter can be angled up to approximately 20° in any direction (relative to the woofer).
  • Woofer: The 8" copper-colored, machine-spun Cerametallic woofer can rotate a full 360°, and then shift 15° in any direction. The solid Aluminum diaphragm, anodized to add stiffness and provide perfect damping, has a new hi-tech look that also delivers increased rigidity for even tighter, more defined bass.

Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 watts Peak).

Tweeter/Mid-bass Attenuation Switches: If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch. If the speaker is located in a corner and produces too much bass, you should adjust the Mid-bass level switch (-3dB). Both switches are located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The CDT-5800-C II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 9.8125". For new construction, purchase of the IK-800-C installation kit (714IK800C, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a pair of gold-plated, spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, as well as pin connectors and single banana plugs.

Q

Q
A ranch house having insulation above the drywall, is heat or lack of, a problem?
dave  Dec 29, 2023
1 answer
A
Extreme temperature shifts will affect the longevity of any speaker, Dave. For extra protection and better sound quality if you have the space, use the Dynamat Dynabox in the link below with your Klipsch CDT-5800-C II's or any in-ceiling speaker! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_15450306/Dynamat-DynaBox.html

Q
I have a great room with a 22 foot tall ceiling. Would these speakers create an echo if four of them are installed on the ceiling?
steve  Dec 01, 2023
1 answer
A
Possibly. Rooms with tall ceilings are generally prone to reverberation. However, depending on the materials present in the room (furniture, carpet, rugs, wall-hangings, etc.), it may be that there won't be as much reverberation as we'd expect.

Can these be used in a bathroom?

Greetings Ryan, and thank you for your question. Most Klipsch in ceiling speakers are technically not moisture resistant. The R1800-C and R1650-C are.

Q
I want to use these as rear surrounds but see that they are rated for 50w. My receiver is 100w per channel. Will these work?
leroy  Dec 27, 2020
3 answers
A
I use the CDT-5800-C II as overhead speakers for a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup. I power them with a Denon X4500h which works very well and has higher watts/channel than 100w. These are higher end speakers so I would imagine they are suitable for your situation as well. The 50w RMS rating is also if continuously being held. In addition, these are great speakers with a lot of flexibility. I have really enjoyed them.
dominic  Dec 27, 2020
A
They will work perfectly , I am running 4 of these as in ceiling surrounds. And each has125w driven to it.
richard  Dec 27, 2020
A
Yes. Definitely.
ernie  Dec 27, 2020
Q
I have 4 of these in-ceiling Klipsches and love them. Wanting to upgrade my Polk Center channel to a Klipsch. Would the RP-504C be a good pairng with these speakers for a fairly large living room?
lionel  Aug 01, 2020
3 answers
A
Lionel, this center speaker should be great for a large family room. Especially with the in-ceiling speakers that you have. If you want to go bigger you can. But even if you family room is a 1000 square feet or so, this center speaker should be able to fill it. For TV and movies, you will find that this will probably be your most important speaker.
stephen  Aug 01, 2020
A
Yes should be a good pairing. This is a great center channel. Just be sure to pair it with a front R and L REference premier speakers.
pedro pagan  Aug 01, 2020
A
Lionel, I certainly would think that the RP-504C would be a good pairing with your CDT-5800-CIIs. I have 6 CDT-5800-CIIs and also love them. My installation is perhaps somewhat atypical, though. I have 3 pair of them installed in various parts of the first floor in my townhome. Two pair in my living room that is about 20x13 and is sort of connected to my kitchen and dining area that is 25x12, then two pair in my adjoining study that is about 10x12. All rooms have 11 ft ceilings. Each pair is controlled by a volume knob. So, it's really 3 pair of stereo speakers vs. a more typical 5.1 home theater setup. I also have a Klipsch R-10SWi powered subwoofer. All of this is powered by a Sonos receiver. When I crank it up it sounds great. I have wanted a pair of Klipschorns since I was in high school and I would go to the local hifi audio store where the manager would let me jam on them all I wanted. So my current setup is the next best thing :-). Enjoy your gear! Peace, David

Q
I am installing this in my ceiling and the drywall is 1/2 inch. I would like to reinforce with some 1/4 plywood. Will this be too thick?
robert  Dec 03, 2017
3 answers
A
They sell a hanger kit which fit between the joists. No need to re-enforce at all. I did however double up on the speaker wire and soldered ends. system works great. Also put in wall speakers at same time. really nice system albeit expensive but great if you can do the work yourself
tam  Dec 04, 2017
A
No. The tabs that hold it in place allow for varying thicknesses and the instructions mention using 3/4" MDF/plywood if using it in a dropped ceiling.
curt  Dec 04, 2017
A
Yes. I did the same with a pair. No issue. Klipsch has a custom mounting box that I used with a second pair that I liked even more.
quintin  Dec 03, 2017

Are these speakers all weather? Ok to put in the ceiling of a deck that experiences temps from 100 degrees to sub zero.

They are not recommended for use in "all weather" outdoor installations.

Sorry can't help. Put them in ceiling in house in California where temperature doesn't fluctuate much.

Q
Can the CDT 5800 be used with the ME-800-C Klipsch enclosure? The enclosure info mentions use with an 8" Reference series but does not call out compatibility with this 8" CDT.
nolan  Jan 14, 2017

A
Yes. I used them with 4 ceiling speakers and it was a completely secure match/fit with no issues.
quintin  Jan 16, 2017
A
Yes. Did it in my new house. Easy installation.
douglas  Jan 16, 2017
A
Yes it will work. We used it with the CDT 2800 and the CDT 5800 shows the same speaker depth.

I wondered the same thing, and just painted the ceiling swiss coffee to match the speaker instead
richard  Aug 09, 2016
Q
Is the entire speaker aimable, or is it just the tweeter?
steve  Jun 27, 2016
7 answers
A
The woofer and tweeter can be aimed towards the listeners
lenard  Jul 03, 2016
A
The entire speaker rotates and the tweeter swivels in any direction.
douglas  Jun 28, 2016
A
Just the tweeter. I am no expert, but I believe that is all you need given the sounds waves travel differently depending on the frequency. That is why you can place a sub woofer anywhere in the room. These speakers sound and look great - practically invisible.
richard  Jun 28, 2016
A
Both the speaker and the tweeter are movable, but only a small amount.
ben  Jun 28, 2016
A
Both the cone and the tweeter are amiable, independently of each other.
james  Jun 28, 2016
A
The woofer and tweeter can both be aimed.
mark  Jun 28, 2016
A
The woofer and tweeter both swivel independently.

Q
I am upgrading my HT from Klipsch RF 62 fronts and RC 64 center. I'm thinking about either the RF 7ii with the RC 64ii or the RP 280F with the RP 450C. It's 7.1 surround with R 5650 C for the side and rear channels. Is it possible to use my old RC 64 center channel with new equipment or should I upgrade? Thanks
michael  Nov 16, 2015

A
Just built 2 home theater systems that include Klipsh CD-5000CII, r-5650-SII, and 5650--WII. Also included subwoofers PSB CWS8, plus Polk Audtio 80F/X, 255c-RT, atrium outdoors, and finally to get Altos sound, I got ONkyo SK-H410. Everything is works and sounds great. All the speakers came from Crutchfield. I called before I ordered and discuss every speaker in detail with representative. Klipsh speakers are beautifully made. I also order two Denon Command HT receiver/amplifier. Tom

Absolutely. A surround sound system with those Klipsch speakers would provide very good sound quality.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
how far apart from each other should the cealing speaker be ?
emanuel  Nov 03, 2014
2 answers
A
I understand front ceiling speakers should be above the front tower speakers. Rear ceiling speaker is just behind seating area. Rear surrounds about even with seating. This makes my configuration a 5.4.2. That's 2 subs
earl  Jun 24, 2017
A
Emanuel, I was always taught that 10' is a good seperation between speakers. I used these speakers for my mid speakers between my front and rear speakers. I pointed the tweeters at my seating location, they work great. If you can't seperate the speakers that far try to place them just outside the seating area. I hope this helped.
