Our take on the Klipsch CP6

If you want great sound by the patio or pool, but aren't crazy about the idea of hanging big speakers from the eaves, a smaller speaker, like the Klipsch CP6, may be just the ticket. The CP6 keeps a low profile, is designed to mount vertically or horizontally, and the V-shaped rear of the cabinet can fit right into a corner. The speaker can even be painted to match your trim. A 5-1/4" long-throw woofer is paired with Klipsch's 3/4" Tractrix® horn in each speaker to produce great full-range sound without taking up too much space. Thanks to a weather-resistant design, the CP6 is well-suited to bringing your tunes outdoors when the weather turns sunny.

Smart looking good sounding outdoor speakers

Chris from Tulsa, OK on 7/12/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Traveling this Summer, added a stop at Crutchfield's only store right after visiting Monticello :) 25 yrs of buying from these fine folks. In the market for some outdoor speakers to begin the backyard transformation - adding landscaping, decks etc. - needed to have good music while I move dirt and make some magic. Own many speakers with a couple heritage Klipsch's in the collection inside the house. These little Klipschs are nearly perfect. The mounting brackets are solid, actually big enough for your drill to fit while attaching the screws. This is super helpful as outdoor installs always require ladders etc. - the easier the better when up tall. The speaker wire mounting made sense with the only flaw being a bit small and that silly silicone cover. Cover is fine but the little tab that keeps it connected doesn't have enough room to fold when the wires are present. Ended up just snipping the tab, tucking it in, then the cover fits snug and fine. It is trapped behind the speaker grills once installed so it won't go anywhere. The sound is clean and crisp. Outdoors are hard to fill so it will likely take a whole combination of in-ground and above-ground speakers over time to make it sound like inside the house. That being said, the little 5" drivers move a fair amount of air and produce a decent sound while still staying pretty efficient with the watt/dB. Pretty good little deals - on sale in the store as well :) thanks Klipsch and Crutchfield!

Pros: - attractive design - easy mounting - good sounding - efficient use of amp power - pretty straightforward and simple

Cons: - very minor complaint about little silicone cover tab over installed wires - easily remedied but unnecessarily frustrating for my "like it to be perfect" mindset

The speakers are not able to handle as much as I anticipated. Tend to distort at medium volume.

Good sound

Jeff from West Bend, WI on 6/28/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound is really good even at higher volumes. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is for the wire terminals. The brackets were easy, but I have a heavier gauge wire that was existing for the pair this replaced and that made for very difficult mounting of the wires. The terminals were very small and then I had difficulties tucking the silicone cap over them after they were wired up.

Pros: Great sound and stage separation. Quality build

Cons: The wiring terminals could have been better.

Great value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speaker for the price. Instructions included painting guidelines which I followed with no issues and the speakers looked great after two coats of paint, matching my patio color. Mounting was very straight forward, having some experience in home installation of speakers. Wiring was no different than any other speaker. The sound is very good for the speaker sizes and produce loud enough sound to bother the neighbors, if you're so inclined. There are better speakers available, but for this price range, this is a great pick. I've used Klipsch speakers for 10+ years and they are a great company, that stand behind their products. Buying from Crutchfield gives even more product support..

Pros: Size: These speakers are right at the limit of what I consider becoming too large, i.e., obtrusive. Company Support: Klipsch stand behind their products Price

Cons: None

Nice speakers, directions lacking

Steve in NH from Portsmouth, NH on 5/7/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They are excellent speakers. Sound great. The mounting system is very clever but they could have explained better how you must choose the angulation before pushing fully onto the bracket and that, likewise, you must pull the speaker slightly off the bracket to change angulation. Not knowing this I almost broke the bracket. Also, they used the word "detente" when they meant "detent" :)

Pros: Great sound, easy install once you figure it out.

Cons: Language skills in the instructions.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound is great, wish it would have an adjustable position, sits at 45 degrees in corner. The speaker wire attachment locations good, but the hardware to attach the wires, a screw and thin square washer into a undersized threaded strip is less than I would expect from Klipsch. the rubber cover boot is weak also.

Pros: sound

Cons: speaker wire attachment arrangement is flimsy.

Outstanding Speakers!

These speakers are awesome.. Mount very easily. Sound great. I am using them inside for mid speakers and they work great.

Pros: Easy mounting.

Cons: none at this time.

Multi-Purpose Speaker: The Klipsch CP-6 loudspeakers are designed to both withstand the rigors of outdoor use, while also complimenting any indoor décor as either a stereo pair or surround speakers in a home theater system. Built to either withstand the rigors of outdoor use or to provide a highly aesthetic look that blends perfectly into any indoor décor, the Klipsch Compact Performance Series CP-6 speakers provide a unique, multifunctional sound solution for any home.

Two-Way Speaker Design: The Klipsch CP-6 employs exclusive Tractrix Horn technology with a premium, long-throw woofer for an amazing full-range sound.

  • Horn-Loaded Dome Tweeter: Each CP-6 speaker features a 0.75" aluminum dome tweeter coupled to a Tractrix Horn for smoother high-end response with greater extension, enhanced imaging, and more powerful dynamics. The exclusive Klipsch 90°x 90° Tractrix Horn not only provides controlled coverage, reducing reflected sound which harms overall sound quality, but also gives you more sound output from the same amount of power input compared to other designs.
  • IMG Woofer: Each CP-6 loudspeaker features a 5.25" IMG (injected-molded graphite) woofer for detailed midrange and punch midbass response. The woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Dual Ports: Two front-firing ports are used for greater efficiency and bigger bass response.

Weather Resistant Cabinet: The Klipsch CP-6 loudspeakers feature an anti-resonant, weather resistant, mineral-filled cabinet. The speaker also include weather resistant, powder-coated aluminum grilles (logos rotate). Both the cabinets and grilles are paintable.

Speaker Terminals: The two speaker screw-terminals are accessible from the speaker's front baffle; a rubber terminal protects the screw-terminals. Push the speaker wire through the middle channel on the speaker's back cabinet until its pushed through to the speaker's front baffle, and then attach the speaker wire to the screw-terminals using a philips-head screwdriver.

Mounting Options: The included wall-brackets let you mount the CP-6 speaker horizontal or vertical against a wall. The speaker's V-shaped profile even allows you to tuck the speaker into a corner using the included wall-brackets. The solid wall-mount bracket system assures a fast, easy, one-screwdriver installation. There are two keyhole slots on back of the wall-bracket (mounting screws not included). Once installed, you can adjust the angle of the speaker without any tools. The CP Series speakers also have two 1/4"-20 threaded inserts for attaching 3rd party wall-brackets (sold separately). In addition, the CP-6 multipurpose speaker can be simply placed on a shelf or stand.

Note: The CP-6 loudspeaker measures 7" (w) x 11" (h) x 6.875" (d) with the wall-bracket attached.

These speakers are not amplified. [ Ian  Sep 13, 2016 ]
These are not amplified speakers, they do require an external amplifier. They are very efficient and do not require a large amp to sound fantastic. [ CHRISTOPHER  Sep 12, 2016 ]
No [ Michael  Sep 12, 2016 ]

I was not able to find any mention of a design change for this speaker on our site or Yamaha's site. I hate to hear that the terminals are giving you trouble. If you purchased them from us, I recommend giving our technical support a call to see if anything can be done to remedy that terminal issue. We include their number on the invoice that comes with the order. If you don't have that handy, you can call us on 1-800-324-9695 to look up that order and then connect you with our technical support. Either way, I am glad you are enjoying their sound.
