The Klipsch Music Center KMC 3 is more than just another portable Bluetooth speaker — it's a full-blown portable sound system. And with 130 watts of peak system power, your music will definitely be heard!

Innovative speaker design

The system has two 2" high-performance full-range drivers, each in its own sub-enclosure to prevent cross-interference. A 5-1/4” long-throw woofer with dual-flare ports delivers clean, hard-hitting bass. Separate amplifiers power the speakers to minimize distortion. Add advanced digital signal processing equalization, and you've got a system that sounds clear and detailed at any volume level.

Ready to go

The KMC 3 features a convenient carry handle built into the cabinet so you can just grab it and go. The system comes with an AC wall adapter, or you can use eight “D” cell batteries for up to 26 hours of portable operation. A USB port lets you charge your smartphone or tablet when the KMC 3's connected to an AC outlet. And there's an auxiliary input so you can play non-Bluetooth portable devices through the system, too. The soft-feel paint and metallic accents create a look that's rugged yet stylish.

From our Klipsch Music Center KMC-3 review:

[Q]uite honestly this speaker is well-prepared for the task you'll want to put it to: keeping the party going. With playlists streaming from your fingertips, and the go-anywhere potential of an 8-"D"-cell battery compartment giving you up to 26 hours of portable operation, you'll have the "great-sounding tunes" requirement covered, and all with a speaker you can carry with one hand..

Really Good

Glenn from Tuscaloosa, Alabama on 3/30/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this for my wife. She really enjoys her music, so after reading the reviews on multiple units, I dicided to get this KMC 3. When it arrived, the packaging was the best - a special container made just for the KMC - I am keeping for travel purpose. My wife was not keen on the size because she was use to the Big Jawbone. But, after she listened to the sound, she was very happy and I became happy

Pros: The Sound produced was everything the other reviewers said - A big sound with clearness

Cons: The KMC 3 size is not small which prevents it from being really portable.

Incredible sound, horrible remote control

BDJ from Dallas on 2/24/2015

I didn't set out to buy an expensive Bluetooth speaker. I went around to a lot of stores listening to $100 speakers. But then I came across this Klipsh. The sound was so incredible I knew I would kick myself for settling for less. I use it for my TV in the living room. I didn't want a lot of speakers cluttering up the space. I just wanted one speaker with awesome bass. On the opposite side of the universe, there's the remote control - an absolute embarrassment - an afterthought. Cheaply made and won't even turn the speaker on at 5ft. away. I have to get up and move closer to it - I may as well just go to the speaker to turn it on.

Pros: Crisp highs, wall-shaking lows. Beautiful to look at

Cons: Cheap remote control is almost pointless to use.

Best Sound

K1 from Virginia on 2/3/2015

This is the best sounding of all the portable blue tooth speakers I've listened to, including Bose and Infinity.

Pros: Best sound, Better price.

Cons: Larger than other speakers (why the sound is better), and takes batteries to run on.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well not long after I got it in and got to put some hours on it I came to the conclusion that I am Very satisfied with the KMC-3. Quality of sound is by far the best feature. compared it side by side to the Beats Pill XL. The pill did actually get louder, but it was mostly just on the highs. The Pill did not sound bad but, was not as clear as the klipsch especially at the upper end of the volume. And as for as the base it was not even a comparison the 5 1/4" sub on the KMC does a great job.

Pros: great sub and quality sound.

Cons: not easily portable.

Met my expectations

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was considering a Bose wave radio before I found this. I'd listened to the Bose bluetooths in the store, but wasn't impressed. The Wave sounded "alright". I ordered this based on the great reviews and my wife & I have not been disappointed. Typically we use it to listen to an iPod classic using the 3.5mm jack (the USB charges only - it will not play anything over USB) but have used the bluetooth as well. The bluetooth works well and at a reasonable distance (15-20' without obstructions). I'm able to move around between the living room (where we keep our KMC3), the adjacent office, and the adjacent kitchen with my phone or tablet (Nexus 10) and it does not drop the connection. Sound quality is very good, and it has a good bit of volume available, although it sounds just as good at lower volumes as it does turned up. The packaging was quite sturdy - Klipsch spends some change putting the (made in China) KMC3 into a fancy box. I really wish this was made in the US, but it seems to be built like a tank, unlike so much other disposable junk available out there.

Pros: Sound quality Volume/Loudness Feel and appearance of the outer materials Option to run on batteries

Cons: Fancy packaging = higher price?

bluetooth boom box

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

lov my new KMC3..i basically use it it the bedroom and courtyard .. this "bluetooth box box" is built quality from Klipsch..i use the KMC3 as background music when guests arrive, but when alone i turn up the volume slightly louder.. i feel it has excellent sound quality for the music i listen to ( Melissa Etheridge, BB King, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton to name a few artists)..i use Pandora to listen to my music..i also use the KMC3 with my MacBook Pro to watch NetFlix and dvd's when i am not using my Bose review is based on my home system which consist of Snell Acoustic Towers, Boston Acoustic center and surround , B&W powered sub , Marantz receiver ( doesn't get better than that ) ...

Pros: clean sound, more volume than you need, solid built quality product from Klipsch

Cons: i don't mind the weight with the batteries, mostly use A/C

Klipsch KM-3---Not the best of its field

CMJ from Alexandria, VA on 3/9/2014

Having canvassed the internet for the best bluetooth speaker dock at this price point, I was persuaded by what seemed like an onslaught of positive reviews for the Klipsch KMC-3. I had previous experience with Klipsch headphones and am well-aware of Kipsch's stellar reputation amongst audiophiles; therefore, I decided to take the plunge and purchase this speaker. Well, in the interim, I had also ordered a heavily discounted JBL Rumble. Side by side, the JBL Rumble beats the Klipsch in a number of areas. For one, the JBL Rumble separation of vocal, instruments and elements to tracks (electronic, accapella, classical, rap) is quite evident, whereas the Klipsch KMC-3 seems blunt and muddy. The second attribute is the range of equalization settings (2 of which are physical buttons on the JBL Rumble itself) and additional settings within the JBL MusicFlow app. All of these settings, especially the Club setting, open up the sound and provided a very expansive soundscape; this is no doubt aided by the fact that the speakers themselves are wrapped around the JBL Rumble. The Klipsch, by contrast, only shines if you are directly in front of it---and that sound, even at its best, doesn't compare to the JBL Rumble. I tried a number of scenarios to prove myself wrong---using airplay, direct auxiliary connection, regular bluetooth, APTX (with the KMC-3). The Rumble, even without the APTX codec, sounded better than the KMC-3 APTX.

Pros: Looks Great Good Bass

Cons: *Muddy Wall of Sound, Little Separation *APTX sounds worse than regular bluetooth even when paired with an APTX capable Android tablet *Bluetooth must be re-paired with IOS Devices each time bluetooth is used because the initial remembered connection with an IOS device (tested with an iPhone 5 and iPad Air) is full of static and crackling (like a scratched record) when automatically connecting. This did not happen with my MacBook Air or Android Tablet.

Unbelievable sound from a small box. Got this as a Christmas present for the wife to use with her iPhone. She loves it Nuff said.

Pros: Klipsch. What more do you need ?

Cons: Uses D cell batteries to make it portable. Should be able to charge it instead.

Just what I was looking for. Sound is GREAT!

Mrs.DD from Southern California on 12/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I searched and searched for the right "dock" to listen to Pandora on my Android. I wanted top notch sound and not too big of a speaker. Big enough to support great sound, but small enough to be able to carry and move to different parts of the house. Since most docks are tailored for iPhones, the Crutchfield team strongly recommended the Klipsch® Music Center KMC 3. It's like a small boom box that delivers great sound and the fact that it also charge my phone and can be used outdoors (requires batteries), was a hug plus! The Crutchfield team was right to recommend the Klipsch® Music Center KMC 3. I am not disappointed and love listening to Pandora as I cook in the kitchen, get ready in the bathroom or enjoying company out in my patio.

Pros: Great, overall sound. Size is like a small boom box.

Cons: Wish I could control the bass. Sometimes I don't need as much. But well balanced sound overall. Rated a 4 because of this.

Klipsch KMC 3 Review

Malibumike from NY on 11/7/2013

Like many of you reading this I searched long and hard for reviews, Youtube videos, anything I could find out there. It wasn't until the speaker became available in stores (I could go listen) that I decided to take the plunge. - SO glad that I did. I will be honest and tell you I'm a bit of a Klipsch fan. I have a 7.2 setup of Klipsch quintets in one room. Main living room has a 7.1 Klipsch reference II series set. But, what I also wanted was to be able to take that quality of audio with me. Camping, backyard parties, fishing...I can't wait (getting cold here on the east coast, so it might be awhile.) After auditioning some of the major brands and better bluetooth speaker options (list below) I can say for certain, the KMC 3 is the best I've heard. Speakers I've listened to: Bose sound link 2 Bose sound link mini UE Boom UE mini boom Beats pill Beats Beatbox Sony srs-btx300 JBL Flip Jawbone Big Jambox Motorola Sol Republic X Jabra Solemate I've researched many others as well, a lot, and probably too much time has gone into finding what I wanted...bit obsessive maybe? For sure. BUT, Let me pass what I've learned onto you. What makes the KMC 3 Stand out from the crowd? 1) Its size - I actually wanted something a bit smaller, however, after listening to many speakers and knowing what would make an audio enthusiast content, I had to go for something a bit larger. Klipsch did a great job with the size of this (7.2" H x 17" W x 5.5" D). you get big sound in a relatively small package. They do in fact sell a smaller version of this speaker - KMC 1, and an ultra portable model coming soon - GIG. I've not heard them due to availability in stores. 2) APT-X Codec - I won't get into details, but if you have a capable bluetooth apt-x device, you will absolutely tell the difference in audio quality between those that do, and those that do not. It's a shame Bose is stubborn, and will probably never use this technology in their speakers. All bluetooth speakers should be using apt-x at this point. 3) Design - It's sleek, mature, classy. From soft finish to solid hefty feel, it oozes quality. 4) Sound Clarity - Again going back to apt-x. Every sound is extremely crisp. others without apt-x sound dull in comparison. I've even listened to music with a non apt-x source as well - iphones. The sound is still better on this speaker than other similarly priced ones. If you have an apt-x device such as many Samsung phones / tablets. I highly suggest a 3rd party music app called Neutron. You will hear audiophile sound coming from this speaker. It's truly an experience, so much so, you will want to listen to all of your favorites again. 5) Bass - Again, very clean at MORE than reasonable sound levels. I've read others say it can get a bit muddy when at extreme levels, but lets face it...anything this compact will. Let me tell you it's not even a concern. I have this thing sitting on top of a granite ta

Fills the entire room or the entire deck. Hard to believe this sound. Worth every penny if you care about sound and you want to crank it up!

Pros: Sound, portability.

Cons: D batteries. A pain in the neck, it should have built in rechargables.

Klipsch KMC3

Josh from Charlottesville, VA on 7/26/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great, deep, rich sounding bluetooth boom box. I listened to every other comparable device around this price range at the Crutchfield store and none compared to the fullness of sound delivered by the Klipsch. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because it uses 8D batteries. A battery pack that recharges when your plug it in should be standard at this point. That being said, I think it was purposeful because rechargeable batteries wouldn't be able to produce this kind of deep bass for more than a couple hours. I used this all weekend at the pool and didn't have to change the batteries. I would say the battery life is indeed in the 20+ hour range, and any time you're near a socket you can plug it in and save batteries.

Pros: Deeper bass and better sound than any other portable bluetooth boom box out there.

Cons: Requires 8D batteries to go completely wireless.

Great for deck parties

Mayor90 from Moundville, MO on 7/20/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Puts out amazingly loud, smooth, clear sound. Haven't had a chance to try it with the batteries yet, but Klipsch never disappoints with their products. Only complaint I would have is the fact that they didn't opt for a rechargeable lithium battery pack for this, which is why I gave it 4*. Connectivity has been no issue for any of the devices I've tried, and everything operates very smoothly. Overall great product and is of excellent build quality, which is to be expected of Klipsch.

I did a lot of research before deciding on the KMC-3. All I can say is this thing will blow you away! Everything is simple, user friendly and super clear. This thing is a bargain for the price. I love it when my friends hear it and say..."How is that much sound coming out of that black box!!" Get you some quality rechargeable D-cells and don't look back. This thing will turn heads!

Pros: Sound quality, battery life, simplicity, Cool packaging, BASS!

Easily The Best Portable Stereo Unit For Sale

Driver_King from Orlando, FL on 6/20/2013

The Klipsch KMC 3 handily whoops competition in nearly every aspect of sound. From its accurate treble and highs that add clarity, detail, and precision to individual instruments to its pleasing, tonally neutral and accurate midrange - vocals, instrumental reproduction (from smooth jazz, to metal, to EDM, pop music, etc.) - and finally its low end prowess with unexpectedly powerful bass extension, heft, and unusually 'fast', responsive (not sloppy or exaggerated - I'm looking at you Bose and Beats) lower register tones, the Klipsch KMC 3 is an all around triple threat to its competition. While I am a fan of all technologies and am incredibly open minded to trying different brands and technologies, after trying the most popular options for portable music units - including Bowers and Wilkin's Zeppelin, the Bose SoundDocks, Beats Beatbox, and Sonos Play3 and Play5 - I have yet to find a unit that can tick the three aforementioned areas of sound quality off of its kickin' qualities list. So far, only Klipsch has managed to knock that list out of the park and as far as I'm concerned, there is not a better portable sound dock for the money. Unlike many of its competitors, it does not need to be in the corner to provide excellent bass quality (actually, placed in the corner may provide too much bass depending on the song, which you could accordingly EQ out on your phone if need be). All in all, as a portable system, it cannot be beat. I highly recommend this unit.

Pros: * Wireless connectivity * Bluetooth APT-X (plus 3.5mm) * Excellent sound quality * SOLID Bass extension down to about 35hz (not just port chuffing) * Excellent midrange and treble reproduction * Great at very low volume levels * Incredible dynamics * Integrated DSP improves sound quality of any music (loudness, dynamics, EQ, etc.) * IT'S PORTABLE * Buy rechargeable D batteries - get DAYS of music playback on a SINGLE charge (recharge up to 1000 times) * AMAZING build and look * Built

Cons: * No EQ? (Not a big deal - IF you need any, EQ your source) * APT-x isn't available on more devices (not a fault of the product but just the newness of the technology) * A little heavy - still incredibly portable. * Doesn't have a 15" subwoofer driver? Seriously though. Can you fault a unit for not having the capability to hook up to an external subwoofer for ultra low frequencies (sub 30hz?) /// Not really a con * Klipsch app is NOT available for Windows Phone or Windows 8...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just as the title says, "Amazing Speaker". Yes, it is expensive, but the sound quality is phenomenal! and worth every penny! Batteries work great and for a long period of time at high volume...Yes, High volumes. This is one heck of a speaker and it surely will impress you and anyone else listening. First time I fired up this bad-boy at a party in my backyard, everyone was amazed and pleased with its performance and wanted to know where I got it. Told them Crutchfields - online. Don't wait these are truly fine speakers that can be used anywhere.

Pros: Wickedly potent high fidelity wireless speaker, Bluetooth works flawlessly (easy pairing, great distance), Good battery life, nice small remote.

Cons: None

Juls from Illinois on 6/14/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This speaker is hands down the best thing I ever heard! I got rid of a Bose sound link 2 as soon as I heard the klipsch kmc 3. The sound detail is amazing you can hear every detail. The massive bass this thing puts out is clean, tight, and hard hitting. So far I've been pushing these speakers for 3 weeks, 15 hrs a day, and have no complaints besides once in a while when listening to a certain low frequency at almost full volume you can hear port noise. I find myself wanting to hear music all the time almost like an addiction to the sound. Forget the rest and buy It already. One more thing if you close your eyes and stand in front it you'll think your at a concert!

Pros: Extreme clarity, unheard of sound for the size, lots of clean hard hitting bass. Addicting

Cons: At high volumes with a song that has massive bass you can hear port noise

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All I can say is wow. The attention to detail from packaging all the way to the unit is very professional. its easy to operate and I love the fact that it is portable. The highs and mids are crystal clear and the bass on this little unit is amazing. very pleased with my purchase.

Pros: A lot of bang for your buck for a portable system.

Cons: Every now and then you get a little bit of tube noise from the bass ports in the rear. Unit has great bass and a lot of air to push out the small enclosure.

Johnny Audio 73 from Jamestown, ND on 5/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very well packaged as usual from the folks at Crutchfield. Klipsch did a great job with their packaging as well. Very nice. This is no light weight speaker, there is some serious audio hardware in this little beauty. This is my equipment set up, a 5th Gen. iPod Touch, AudioQuest Sydney 3.5 mm cable all plugged into this not so little Godzilla speaker system. I realize I am old school with regards to direct cabling, but I feel you get better audio and save on source and speaker power if you are running off of batteries. As to battery power I have not tested the length of time that the 8 D's will last, but we will see. As far as audio quality is concerned treble and midrange are crystal clear and the bass extension is nothing short of amazing. This speaker system will deliver accurate sound pressure levels that will astound anyone. If you do go for direct 3.5 mm cabling route note that when the KMC is powered up make sure the volume level is set at almost zero. The sound source volume (i Pod) is set at wide open and plugged into the 3. Sit back and you will look like the old Maxell cassette tape commercial. This thing rocks.

Pros: Accurate home theatre like detailed sound from a speaker not much bigger than a loaf of bread. Very High tech drivers. Nice sounding and pleasing to the ear at low and high volumes. Great soundstage!

Cons: Hoping for a carrying case to follow soon. Expensive, but what isn't that is this much fun.

High Performance Speaker Design: The Klipsch KMC 3 combines a 2.1ch speaker system, bass-reflex enclosure, 130-watt (peak) bi-amped digital amplification, and advanced DSP equalization for accurate reproduction of all music types. Dual 2" full-range aluminum drivers, internally chambered to minimize distortion, provide a clean and highly balanced sound up to 24kHz. A unique tuned dual-flare port system combines with the built-in 5.25" long-throw woofer for deep bass down to 40Hz. A 15-watt x 2-channel digital amp powers the dual full-range drivers, while a 35-watt digital amplifier powers the subwoofer. The KMC 3 also employs advanced DSP equalization for lifelike, dynamic sound at any volume level.

Built-in Bluetooth w/ AptX: The Klipsch KMC 3 features built-in Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP technology which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, or laptop/computer. You'll be able to stream stored music or music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device and control playback from the included remote control. AptX audio coding technology allows for lossless, audiophile-quality streaming. The unit can be paired with up to 8 devices (only one can be used at a time). Once paired, the KMC 3 will automatically re-connect to the last device used.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Klipsch KMC 3.

Remote Control: The included IR remote control operates the system's volume up/down and muting. The remote also supports basic playback functions of your Bluetooth streamed music, such as Play/Pause and Track Forward/Reverse.

Auxiliary Input: The Klipsch KMC 3 is fitted with a 3.5mm auxiliary input to connect virtually any portable audio device with a headphone output.

USB Charging Port: The KMC 3 features a USB (type-A) port used to charge your smartphone or other USB-enabled portable audio device. This USB port does not support audio playback. You can choose to power your device using either AC or battery power. However, charging with battery power will reduce battery life. If batteries are already weak, the USB connection will not charge your device.

Integrated Carry Handle: The integrated carry handle lets you easily move the KMC 3 room to room or take it anywhere with you.

Power Requirements: The Klipsch KMC 3 operates off of AC or DC power. Simply plug the included AC power adapter and cord into an AC wall outlet for AC power. The KMC 3 also operates off of DC power using eight "D" batteries (sold separately). You get 26 hours of playback time at moderate volume and 8 hours of playback at maximum volume.

The Klipsch KMC3 has an auxiliary input into which one can hook up anything via a 1/8" mini-jack cable. Most TVs have a red/white RCA output and for less than 10$ you can get an RCA to mini-jack cable. The bass on this system is incredible and would be great for movie watching. [ JOSH  Feb 04, 2014 ]
This Klipsch speaker is fantastic! I prefer more bass and I've read some reviews stating the bass is too "muddy". Keep in mind, however, you can adjust the bass through most devices such as your PC, laptop, etc. When plugged into a wall socket, this speaker will also perform through your TV that has a standard 3.5mm headphone output. Tip: I do not own a tablet or a an iPad, etc. However, I purchased a separate Bluetooth USB Dongle for my laptop to stream Pandora music wirelessly. It's GREAT! [ DENNIS  Feb 02, 2014 ]
thanks, thought so, just wanted to be sure [ R  Feb 02, 2014 ]
Yes, this can be connected to a TV via the AUX port. [ Robert  Feb 02, 2014 ]
Thanks! [ R  Feb 02, 2014 ]
Thanks much! [ R  Feb 02, 2014 ]
I have connected this to my tv. I used the supplied aux cable and connected it to the headphone port on the tv. Also works this way with the klipsch GiG. [ JULIUS  Feb 02, 2014 ]
If your TV has a headphone or audio out that uses a 3.5mm jack you could use that route, and KMC 3 comes with a short mini to mini cable to connect to the aux input on the back. I suppose you could convert RCA out to mini jack as well. I did it with the supplied cable and it was much better than the TV speakers, but you won't have simulated surround sound options like you would with a sound bar made for a TV. Sounds good if you just want stereo sound with more base. Hope That Helps [ MICHAEL  Feb 02, 2014 ]
