Overview

Our take on the Klipsch Reference R-20B

Not everybody looks at floor-standing or bookshelf speakers as beautiful works of art the way I do. If you prefer a more minimalist approach to home theater gear, the Klipsch Reference R-20B will satisfy your aesthetic while delivering a dynamic home theater listening experience.

Serious sound from a seamless system

Not everybody looks at floor-standing or bookshelf speakers as beautiful works of art the way I do. If you prefer a more minimalist approach to home theater gear, the Klipsch Reference R-20B will satisfy your aesthetic while delivering a dynamic home theater listening experience.

This sound bar and subwoofer will immerse you in rich, robust sound, so movies are more thrilling and dramatic. Voices will sound clearer, small details will take shape, and deep bass will rattle your couch if you crank up the wireless subwoofer. It's a clean-looking system that won't draw attention away from your décor — although, the copper-colored Klipsch name on the sound bar might attract "oohs" and "ahs" from your audio-geek friends.

Klipsch Reference R-10B sound bar and wireless subwoofer

The Klipsch Reference R-20B sound bar and wireless subwoofer adds home theater sound to your TV without taking over your room. It can be wall-mounted (shown) or placed on a TV stand.

Clear sound at every seat

This system's two-channel sound bar offers uncompromised clarity with legendary Klipsch sound. Two 3/4" tweeters offer detail and nuance. Each is mated to a horn — a staple of Klipsch speakers — which disperses high frequencies across a wide listening area. This ensures every seat in the house is the best seat for sound quality. Four 3" midrange excel at delivering clear dialogue throughout your room. You won't have to keep replaying the same scene just to understand the actors.

Bring back the bass

When you take the bass frequencies away from a movie soundtrack, you're left with a gaping hole. Everything just sounds a bit flat and lifeless. The R-20B's wireless subwoofer will correct that. Just find a spot anywhere in your room, sync it to the sound bar wirelessly, and you'll start to hear (and feel) just what you've been missing.

Built-in Bluetooth for music

The R-20B isn't just for movies. When you want to enjoy some music, just whip out your smartphone and pair it to the sound bar. It has Bluetooth built in, so you can stream music wirelessly from your phone, tablet, or Bluetooth capable computer.

One cable connection and done

Setting up the R-20B sound bar is easy. Connect the included optical digital audio cable to your TV's optical output. Then connect the other end to the sound bar's input. Plug it in, and you're all set. The sound bar decodes Dolby® Digital signals, so it's prepared to handle the output from most TVs. There are also stereo RCA inputs in case you have an older TV without an optical output.

Cinematic Sound Out of a Soundbar

Rob from Alpharetta, GA on 6/3/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great unit! If you want house rattling base ALL THE TIME, this may not be for you. If though, you want a real cinematic experience giving the right amount of highs, mids, and thunderous lows when it is appropriate, this system delivers. I can hear people speak in quiet scenes and the windows rattle in the action. It's just right. I would say though that the remote is pure junk but it was easy to program to my DirecTv magic remote so it really doesn't matter. The remote is so terrible that I think that was Klipsch's intention.

Pros: Great balance of the ranges of sound.

Cons: Embarrassingly terrible remote - program another remote to operate the system.

    Amazing!

Great sound. Super easy setup. Remote only seems to work when you are 5' or less away from the soundbar. Bluetooth connection was simple but the range is horrible. More than about 10' away and it will lose connection. While it is connected however, it is perfect.

Pros: Sounds great, easy setup, looks great

Gilbert from Weehawken, NJ on 4/1/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

High expectations given the Klipsch Dynasty name. Overall really well built and solid. Audio is crisp and the sub delivers thud pounding bass, so much so I never have over 50% volume level on the Bluetooth unit. That there is no cable required for the Sub was something I did not consider when I purchased in concert with my Cambridge AV unit, it can't see the Sub during speaker setup since it is not connected to the Amp, so I can't take advantage of that room setup capability. The remote is a joke, seriously who allowed this out the door? It is not just the form-factor, the buttons are mushy and don't always work. On my LG 55" OLED, often times, it will turn itself on during the night for no reason or not raise or lower volume - considering donating to the Salvation Army and taking the tax right-off to get something else, just disappointed..

Pros: Built quality Audio range and bass

Cons: Remote Lack of hardwire option for 5.1 speaker setup

Nice sound bar ruined by remote.

Jeff from Swanton, OH on 3/26/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Beautiful sound bar ruined by extremely poor remote. Had Klipsch computer speakers previously and thought they were great. I hooked up my new Klipsch sound bar and sub woofer which was extremely easy. Once installed I discovered thar the remote did not function. I called Crutchfield and they quickly determined it was defective. They promptly sent me a replacement which did work however very poorly. I have a very small living room and sometimes I have to stand up and get 3 feet away directly in front to get it to work. Not only that but it apparently interferes somehow with my smart dvd player remote. Bummed out. This remote just looks and feels cheap compared to the very impressive sound bar and sub. You have to push repeatedly on the buttons to get them to work.

Pros: Looks great. Sounds pretty decent.

    Cons: Cheesy poor functioning remote.

I had a Denon and could not hear the low talking to good. So i talked to a gentlemen at Crutchfield and he recommended the Klipsch R6 for listening to the low talking. i had an email that morning from Crutchfield that had the klipsch R20B on sale so i asked him about that one and he said that it was a better sound bar. So I went on line to read the reviews and they where very helpful and helped me make up my mind. I listened to the same move that i was having issues with and could hear everything very will. Highly recommend the Klipsch sound bars.

    This speaker is LOUD

tyler from Harrisonburg, VA on 3/15/2018

The sound from this product is really great. I use primarily for music, but have hooked it up to watch TV and movies and I'm just as impressed with the sound. At first I was disappointed with the 10 inch bass that comes with it, but the more I use it the more it comes to life. Another thing I REALLY enjoy about this is how loud it is capable of getting and still sounding good. I don't think that I've ever gotten it above 70-75% volume because everytime i do my neighbors(apartment complex) start knocking on my door. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the bluetooth connection. The music will go in and out with my phone within 10-15 feet, and for a product this expensive there's no reason the bluetooth technology should not be superb. If you are buying just for bluetooth music, you might be better off buying a different product.

Pros: sound quality loudness rumbling bass wireless connection to bass

    Cons: bluetooth

Love this sound and wireless sub

Greg from Viewtown, VA on 3/13/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound at and sub-woofer are great. Sound quality is better (for my hearing) than the old Bose 5.1 system it displaced. Like many others, it would have been 5 stars with a bigger / better remote with some sort of visual volume indicators either on screen or on the remote.

    Pros: Do not love remote

    Cons:

Very happy with my purchase. Hook up with my concur 2 Cox remote was easy and the sound is nearly as good as my 5 piece reference set hooked up to my marantz a/v receiver.

    Great sound, Android phone bug

Bryan from Beaverton, OR on 3/7/2018

Fantastic sound. But i have one crazy issue with the the R-20B. If my Galaxy S8 or Girlfriends Google Pixel XL is in the same room with the soundbar, the soundbar activates and instantly adjusts volume to 100%. Doesn't happen at all with iPhone devices. On our Android phones, I've turned off all radios, including NFC, as well as removing the sound card. The phones were never paired with the via bluetooth and resetting the soundbar to factory doesn't solve the issue either. I can't believe I have to return this package because of the strangest hardware glitch I've ever seen. Klipsch hasn't responded and we can't be in the same room with the R-20B with our cell phones. Its ridiculous and has to be seen to be believed.

Pros: Sound is very clear. Great highs, mids and lows Subwoofer really sounds tight.

Cons: S8 and Pixel XL cause soundbar to activate and increase volume to 100% Can't be in the same room with our phones

Crutchfield response on 3/7/2018 Bryan, we're sorry you're having issues with your soundbar. If you purchased this product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can help you solve the problem or set up a return within 60 days of purchase. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound terrific whether you are watching a movie on low volume or blasting music. No way would it be worth the original sticker price, but for under the price point it's at now, it is certainly worth the price. My only complaint as some others have mentioned is that the remote is pretty cheap. It works properly but does not have much functionality even compared to some other brand's offerings at price points under $200. The remote is small and very light-weight, which some might tout as a pro, but I think it feels cheap. Also, it is slightly curved to better fit in your hand I suppose, but I also find that I don't like this design.

Overall a great system.. Clarity and wall shaking bass, which I love!! The only down fall is the remote, you need to aim it right at the soundbar for it to work properly... Easy fix however, I programmed my TV remote to control volume levels. Bluetooth works great, sometimes cuts out do to phone reception. Other than that, very pleased. Crutchfield and Klipsh best of two worlds....

Kyle from Prairie Village, KS on 2/17/2018

First off I would like to say this is a good system over all . But there are a few things I would like addressed like the remote only working when it pointed right at the bar . Second I think the 3D audio sounds like you in a public restroom and third i purchased the R-20B because I want the extra bass from the 10 but after having it for few months now and listening to all kinds of music through it it lacks bass at high volumes! All in all I think it's good just was expecting more!

Pros: Great quality, great look, Easy install

Cons: Poor remote, 3D audio hollow sounding, not as much bass as expected

Ummm. WOW. I'm an audiophile who previously would never even consider a sound bar. I have Klipsch towers with dual 12" subs. With that said, I bought this package for my parents who wanted something simple with a small footprint with decent sound. After about a 2 minute install process, I began testing this setup and I can you Klipsch does NOT disappoint. Not quite the quality of the Def Tech, Sonos, or Bose (in order of preference), but those are 3 times the price when adding a sub. This is an incredible value for a very clear center speaker with deep bass. I'd say this is the best sound bar setup at this price point and it includes a great sub.

    Klipsch vs. Sonos

Andrew from Fulshear, TX on 1/17/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Santa Claus originally delivered a Sonos Playbase for Christmas. Unfortunately, after watching a couple action movies it was clear the system requires a subwoofer to complete the experience so it was sent back to the North Pole. At a $1300 price point for the Playbase and separately sold subwoofer, we decided to look at other options on Crutchfield.com. After a few minutes chatting with the amazing customer rep and researching the recommendations, we ordered the Klipsch R-20B. In our own side-by-side comparison (swapping the audio out during the movie), the Playbase does extremely well with dialog and low-end sounds but the Klipsch (with subwoofer at 50% volume) clearly provided a better overall in-home movie experience. The only downside with the Klipsch is the same concerns noted on previous reviews...the remote control is weak so we are trying phone apps to control the system.

Pros: Saved ~$1000 over a comparable Sonos system Superb quality for the price Pro and Con - bass is very strong...house shook at 75% total volume

Cons: Remote control is weak Pro and Con - bass is very strong...house shook at 75% total volume

    Great sound bar

Kevin from Hanford, CA on 1/16/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can only rate this set up a 3 because the sound bars sound quality was amazing but the subwoofer I got was either defective or something wasn't communicating correctly the sub turned on and there was sound but almost no bass at all even with the dial turned all the way up. I give Crutchfield 5 stars because they made the return extremely easy and effortless. I would also state the sound bar has no indication what volume you're at or what mode it is in other then the color changing led which was kinda annoying. I didn't repurchase this setup because I didn't want to have to wait for shipping again so I did decide on a different unit. If you're only looking for great sound quality and don't need the extra fancy smancy features this is definitely a good buy.

Pros: Sound quality was crisp Voices were very clear

Cons: Defective subwoofer Ships in its own box not a separate box No volume indicator No mode indicator other than led light

Bought the Klipsch Reference 20B sound bar/wireless sub on sale. Performance is better than expected for what I paid except for the remote which is close to useless. Good, clean sound, especially dialogue, in a small to medium sized room. Sub is fairly large and provides good low frequency sound. Handles higher volumes well especially with movies.

Pros: Sound bar is clear, especially dialogue Sub provides good low frequency sound Very good value for the money

Cons: Remote is sub par to say the least

A little disappointed with this R-20B...Thought it would be better. Lack of Mid range sound and the Bass from Subwoofer somehow not firm. But you can't ask for more with this price! Still a lot upgraded compared to TV speakers...

Pros: Look cool and wireless Subwoofer is very convenient.

Cons: No Mid range sound, bass not impressed!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing sounds great for a sound bar. Nothing negative and it met my expectations. The voices are clear and precise and the bass is nice. This system is in my bedroom and it works great. It's not a system I would recommend for a large room but for a bed room it sounds very good. I've read some reviews that stated it turns on by itself. I haven't had that problem because I have it connected to my tv via optical cable. The remote is small but it works although you have to be directly in front of the sound bar. The Bluetooth connection works well also.

Pros: Very good sound, clear voice, nice bass

Highs are too piercing and there are no mids

Anonymous from Longmont, CO on 12/10/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Highs seem too high and artificial. Mid-range is nowhere to be found. Buttons are very temperamental and it won't pair with my remote. Overall it serves me right because the speakers are so small. Sometimes I think it sounds pretty decent when just using it as a Bluetooth speaker, but anything through the Directv and Blu-ray sounds pretty terrible even with an optical connection. I guess I might keep it since it will be almost impossible to return due to the weight and bizarre box it came it. Should have bought for a local store for easier return. But I will probably replace it within the year. I actually just bought a 60 year stereo that completely blows it away. Maybe that means I prefer a warm, full sound instead of over amplified highs. And maybe that means if I am a person who buys 60 year old stereos then soundboard probably aren't for me but I thought Klipsch would be good and I liked the sale price. I was wrong and learned a few things.

Pros: Sounds decent when pairing with my phone. Easy to set up.

Cons: No mids. Highs are tinny. Lacks a warm, rich, full sound. Any cheap out of the box from 20 years ago sounds better. This is a miss.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Klipsch R-20B was returned after using it for about two (2) days. (Thankyou to Crutchfield for their excellent return policy) I would have like to keep the R-20B because the sound is really good. The voices are clear and the sub adds a nice base. The first Con is the Bluetooth implementation is not ready for real-time use. The sound kept dropping out while the Bluetooth was trying to "reconnect" with the subwoofer, even though the sub was five (5) feet away. The second Con is when the optical cable is used, the volume can only be controlled by the Klipsch remote control, not the TV or STB (Set Top Box). There is no HDMI CEC connection ("Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is a feature of HDMI designed to allow users to command and control devices connected through HDMI by using only one remote control. For example, by using the remote control of a television set to control a set-top box and or"....speakers.) The JBL 3.1 surround bar that I tried next, supports HDMI-CEC. I really wanted the R-20B to work, because it is far superior to the Sony Bravia speakers. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth implementation isn't ready for real-time usage.

Pros: Sound Form factor (size) Setup is easy

Cons: Bluetooth implementation No support for HDMI (only Optical and RCA) No support for HDMI-CEC Small, non-standard remote control

First unit sent was DOA. Crutchfield was quick to send another. Minor inconvenience but still had to deal with it. So far very pleased with this sound system, overall. If your looking for superb sound, this is not it. And in all actuality most sound bars of this design will probably be close to the same. It is a great improvement over the factory tv speakers. Good bass & average mids & highs. It's a big improvement but a little overpriced, but I would do it again.

Pros: Good bass & good sound in action movies.

Cons: Can't adjust mids & highs from bass. Pricey Gave it 4 stars because of price & cant adjust highs & mids separate from bass

Sound is good enough to warrant the price that I paid for this combo. I was able to get it for about half the retail price from Crutchfield. Then came to find out that the price was even less, up to $100 less at other sites. Remote does not work well, documentation for the various functions is non-existent. Still have not been able to program Comcast remote with sound features on the bar. Remote for the bar needs to be directly in front of the unit to work. Bluetooth use is good but to connect back to the main source almost always requires you to shut off the unit to clear the previous source. Shame that these are the only thing that stands out about this unit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was hesitant to purchase the Reference R 20B but with all the positive reviews and the help of Kevin I made the plunge. It replaces a Yamaha 101 soundbar and a Yamaha 8" powered sub(165 watts total power. 12 year old sub still putting out great bass). The 6 speaker soundbar makes my TV feel much more alive. While connected via optical it's crystal clear and stays that way to about 85% volume range. After that it becomes distorted. The 10" sub is hard hitting with deep lows and a solid punch. If you adjust the volume on back of the sub to 75% it stays clear up thru the 85% total volume range. Any higher and it becomes muffled and a good deal of distortion. The 3D effect on the remote control is completely useless. It sounds horrible! Everything has an echo on this mode. No EQ settings or technology like Yamaha does that recreates a surround sound environment. Also, no clear mode, voice enhance or mode that keeps the commercials from blasting you out of the chair (it really does) The tiny remote is cheap and irritating. You have to point it directly at the speaker bar and hold it up in the air to get signal to the soundbar. Changing inputs is challenging as well. Connecting devices via Bluetooth is atrocious. It cuts in and out and it cuts purchase.haivolume almost in half. Once again, for the price shouldn't it have the latest 4.1 version of Bluetooth? Overall it's an "okay" buy and I wish I had gone with another brand.

Pros: Powerful clear optical connection 6 speaker soundbar Hard hitting crisp 10" sub

Cons: Cheap remote Useless 3D mode No EQ modes Bluetooth is very bad. Cuts in and out . Don't take the connected device out of the room or it will lose signal!

Fortunately it was packed well, because UPS tried to break it. The box looked like it survived a tour in Afghanistan, on the bad guys side. The battery in the remote was DOA, no biggy, just have to find one. The speakers seem to work fine. Haven't had them long enough to figure everything out. Really don't get the surround sound effect that I can tell. Like I said, might be because I am missing some setting, but I have it hooked directly to my TV through the fiber optic connection, and the sound is infinitely better than the TV speaker, but not even close to my other surround sound system.

The sound from the Klipsch Reference R-20 is fantastic for movies, tv. and music. The Klipsch Reference R-20 gives all we need to fill our open concept space and the bass is great as it brings our sounds we had not heard on our favorite shows before.

Pros: Sound is really good. Although a little bigger than I would like the bar looks fantastic and the remote does what it needs to do.

Cons: Setup was tricky with pairing to the wireless bass. A simple reset on the small holes of the back panels (bar then bass) took care of the problem fast. Too bad this note is not in the manual.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First unit was defective, thankfully Crutchfield service and support was excellent, as always. Just set up the replacement for my first R-20B as the first one had defective Bluetooth. It would connect to my Apple TV or iPhone, but the audio was choppy and would drop out, no matter how close the device was to the soundbar. Otherwise, decent sound, pretty strong bass. I expected better sound but overall am satisfied for my purposes. The real let down is the toy remote and lack of instructions or user interface outside of one indicator light that denotes which input is on. For the sale price it's OK. If I had paid the list price, it would have gone back immediately.

Pros: Crutchfield service saved the day! Easy set-up, decent bass, sounds OK on music.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pros : Good sound, not great, just good. Great price. Very easy hook up. Easy to reprogram TV remotes. It's a Klipsch so it looks great. Strong bass and good mid-range. Great, fast service from Crutchfield as usual. Wife real happy to see all the speakers and wire gone. Meh: No dialog steering, no center channel. Mid range background sound and music can overwhelm voices on some channels. Needs true center channel and some sort of dialog steering. Doesn't sound near as good as the 7.1 system it's replacing....not even close. But way better than the TV speakers for sure. Overall not as good a sound quality as I was expecting. Good not great. Cons: Packaging looks old, shelf worn. (how long you guys had these?) Arrived with minor damage to packaging and sub-woofer. Box appears to have been taped up by a 5 year old. Box damage looks old and not due to shipping. Way below the what I expect from Crutchfield. I would have a hard time recommending this purchase to a friend. I'm beginning to think the great price is due to this being really old stock. Note partially crushed accessory box and the white scrape down edge of sub. Sub is hidden behind TV stand so you can't see it anyway. But really surprised Crutchfield sent this out like this...not up to the standard I expect from you guys....disappointing.

Pros: Price. No more wires! Good bass and mids. Easy set up. Looks good.

Cons: No center dialog steering. Muddy voices on some channels. Appears to be really old stock. Old shelf worn packaging, minor damage to speaker and packaging.

    5 stars for this price

Ronnie from Easley, SC on 6/9/2017

5 stars for what it is, and its a sound bar. Its not gonna sound like a room full of book shelf speakers, 1000 dollar center channel, with a pair of Monitors in the front and rears speakers with 2 subs. But for what it is, it's awesome. I just hooked it up and the highs are not splashy like so many. They are very clear and blend well with the mid ranges. The Bluetooth works flawlessly on the sub and its a great 10 inch sub, yet people are complaining about it too. Its a 10 inch sub, its not gonna sound like a 12 or larger. But its still good deep tight bass. I was a little let down, you have to crank the knob so far to get a lot and I mean a lot of bass in your listening tastes. I like a lot of bass, but even with the knob jacked to almost wide open it doesn't distort even at full throttle on the volume. Its not worth 700-800 dollars by any means, but at this price, it is great. The sound bar sounds really good, clear, detailed, and not splashy. The 10 inch sub is a typical 10 inch sub that's tight bass that's low but not 12-15 low but still sounds really good..At this price point its 5 stars all the way. If it cost a couple hundred more, it would get a 3 from me. I've only heard one sound bar sound better and its in the thousands. Its the Bose Sound bar and sub . This SB you can run it from a computer 3mm headphone jack with RCAs, Optical Cables are an option too Its a great system for the money if you use a splitter you could run 2 different subs a high end Logitech really gives it some extra Kick and mids .

Pros: Computer hook up, Bluetooth, wireless sub up to 50 feet, extremely clear, great highs and mids and not splashy. Not heavy, blends in nicely with furniture and other components. Great hard hitting tight bass. IF you are expecting this set up to sound like a true surround sound set up with center channels, front monitors, book shelf, and back speakers with a 15 inch sub you will get your feelings hurt because this aint it. But for this price point, you aren't gonna beat it, no way, no how.

Cons: To get really high bass you have to take the knob past 75% but it will not distort. I wish it had component option but the optical is good. I hope with a splitter I can run two from the Computer, optical from the Xbox one. I stream all TV nothing prime time so this hook up gives me 3 different ways to use the sound bar. Xbox One, 3mm Splitter with RCA from Computer and you can stream KODI XBMC or use your Streaming Cable service etc .

    good sound, lousy engineering

Jan from San Luis Obispo, CA on 6/5/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good news first: great sound from this sound bar. We are old and have trouble understanding the dialog in TV shows, especially with British accents. The soundbar makes dialog so much clearer. That feature alone made it worth the price. We have had it only a few days and already it has eliminated the need to add closed captioning on some shows. Hooray. Neutral: external sub-woofer: if you sci fi or shows with lots of explosions, you'd be happy with the subwoofer. For us, not so important. Negatives: many! The manual is all pictorial and no text--worthless. Do you need to turn off the unit when shutting off the TV? Who knows? The manual doesn't address it. This system is poorly engineered in many respects: the subwoofer is heavy and needs indentations in the cabinet for handles--it is very cumbersome the way it is. The main unit is taller than expected, so when we put it in front of the Samsung TV, it blocks the TV receiver for signals from the remote--dumb! We have a lip on the TV stand that is only about half-an-inch high, but it blocks the controls on the soundbar! Dumb!! Don't get me started on how awful the Klipsch remote is; I sit only 10 feet away from the TV and the remote does not work at that distance! DUMB!!! I'm going to try a new battery to see if that helps, but it is a major drawback to have to get up and walk to within 4 feet of the soundbar before changing the volume.

    Pros: sound quality is excellent

For the most part i enjoyed this soundbar. Mids are a little muddy due to small and tight soundbar box. The subwoofer is really nice and nobody includes a 10 inch sub with their soundbars besides Klipsch in this set. One thing I didnt like that knocked off a star is my samsung MU6300's remote uses a bluetooth signal rather than an infared signal and this soundbar wont let me auto program my remote to use with the soundbar. The remote that comes with the soundbar is really cheap looking. It also doesn't let you adjust the bass or treble. how it sounds is how it sounds. But all in all I think this is the best soundbar for the buck. A few things I didnt enjoy but I can live with them and ultimatley im happy with my purchase. On a side note for my next build im getting the Klipsch Sixes.....

Certainly lives up to the brand name. Had friends at my home this weekend and all were impressed by the sound and quality. As others say, the remote isn't the greatest, but that isn't a big deal. I had one friend so impressed by it, he got on his phone and ordered it right then and there (he has a Bose system at home!). After shopping for a while, and almost pulling the trigger on a pricey Bose bar and woofer, I feel this was the perfect decision.

I was shopping around several electronic stores researching sound bars and woofers when my brother referred me to Crutchfield. I read several reviews on many different sound bars and woofers and I decided to give Klipsch a shot. Glad I did. So far, I am very satisfied with my rare online purchase. I provided a 4 star rating because I have only had this product for a month.

Thank you to Klipsch and Crutchfield for offering an affordable and quality component.

As you know, sound quality IS that of everyone's own opinion. However, the HUGE improvement I am experiencing with this Klipsch, is wonderful at the very least. I don't know how much more I would have to spend to actually hear any difference from this point, but I believe, it would be at least double! And I don't know if there would be a rewardable difference!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install, took about 30 minutes to mount and connect the bar, and plug in the sub. The sound is great, very good equalization in the frequencies, and the sub does a very good job. Plenty of volume if you want to crank it up, and the sound is just as clear at a loud volume as with a low volume. I haven't used the Bluetooth so I can't review it, but for what I use it for, which is to better the sound from the TV, I am very satisfied. I am also very pleased with my advisor, she answered all my questions, whether technical or cosmetic, and made the decision making experience quite enjoyable.

Pros: Easy installation and the sound is great. To me, as I hear it, the equalization of the sound frequencies are very natural, no piercing highs or mid-range.

Cons: The box it came in was a little unorthodox. It took a little time to figure how to get it out without destroying it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The overall sound quality is pretty good for the money. The bass is deep and works well with good range allowing convenient placement. The packaging was a little rough. There was no damage but the box is an oddball shape and seems to take a decent amount of a beating in transit. Two main gripes - The bluetooth receiver is weak, the receiver must be on the side or back of the unit as my soundbar is placed inside a TV stand. Just a few feet away and I can not stream from a multitude of devices (LG v10 phone, Samsung galaxy 7 and iPhone 6 all suffer the same fate). The solution is to sit the device right next to the soundbar, otherwise it will cut out. The sub has no problem connecting whatsoever in this configuration, so no worries there. The remote control didn't work when I received it. There is a small springy wire that was not making contact with the battery so I had to bend it down a little to make it work. It is fine now but it is clearly a cheap, crappy remote. This is OK once you get it paired with your universal remote (took some time with that too as the Xfinity default settings did not work for it - some googling and I got a code that worked). Overall, the sound is solid for TV, movies and music but the bluetooth connectivity really is crappy on my unit. If you plan on having it sit on top of something and not inside, you should be just fine.

    Pros: Good sound, solid bass.

Cons: Bluetooth range is spotty, remote is cheap and no display to indicate current volume etc.

    Amazing sound with limitations

David from San Marcos, CA on 4/8/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I spent many months researching a sound bar. Our TV room is large 20' x 20' with the cathedral ceiling so I needed something that would fill the space with plenty of sound. I've known about Klipsch quality for years but this is my first Klipsch purchase. My Crutchfield advisor steered me to the R 20 mostly because of the number of speakers in the bar (6: 4 midrange and 2 tweeters) and the large subwoofer 10". Other sound bars do not have that many speakers. The sound is great and I''m pleased, but you need to understand the limitations all of which have been noted in previous reviews I'll summarize what I mean. 1. The remote has a very narrow operating window. If sitting to the side the bar will not detect the remote. I must be directly in front of the bar for it to work. 2. Easy Bluetooth connection to my iPad and music from my iPad and music sounds amazing. However if my iPad is further than 10 feet from the sound bar the signal breaks up and the music sounds staticky. I solved the problem by simply setting my iPad next to the sound bar, no more problems. So if your Bluetooth music source is further than 10 feet from the sound bar you'll have problems with connectivity. 3. I found the 3D mode useless. It lowers the volume and adds treble. Overall I'm very pleased with the R20. Great sound whether cable, blue ray, amazon fire stick or Bluetooth. The R20 remote frustrates my wife so the next step is a universal remote!

Pros: Klipsch sound clarity, great bass response, fits my 55" Vizio, easy optical cable connection to TV, bought the "scratch and dent" looks brand new

Cons: Remote direct line of sight to the bar only (can't be off to the side), short blue tooth range, useless 3D mode, can't pair the sound bar with my cable remote

Tried the Sony HT-NT5 first (Bought it at a local store). The sound was very thin, with no mids at all, so I returned that. Decided to go with Crutchfield this time as their selection is much better and their service is generally very good. Just got the R-20B delivered. Hooked it all up, connected my phone to it with Bluetooth. First song I played, which starts as a beautiful piano solo, and the right-most speaker is buzzing like crazy. It's sitting on rubber feet, so it's not a vibration from the surface it's sitting on. Couldn't find anything on the enclosure or grill that would cause it... definitely coming from the speaker itself. If it wasn't for that, it would probably sound fine for the price. I wasn't wanting to spend much more, but I guess you get what you pay for. I guess I'll try Definitive Tech or Sonos next. Ugh... more money :-/

    Pros: Fast shipping

Cons: Shipped in the manufacturer packaging (I knew this when I bought it) Bad speaker

Great sound Bar! I've had it for 2 weeks, and the speakers are starting to get broke in, with great results. Does a nice job of simulating surround sound. The only complaint I have is the 3D sound. If you're old enough and remember the stereo wide mode on your car radio, that's what it sounds like, making the sound like the speakers are wider apart. But when activated, the 3D effect removes a lot of bass from the sound, leaving way to much treble for my taste. But all in all, a nice set up.

Pros: Cost effective on sale Sub has great punch its size Easily mounts under the TV with brakets.

It converts what was once a dull and unpleasurable listening experience into one the family looks forward to. Although I have not finalized the subwoofer location, the volume is currently set at the mid point and causes a rippling sensation through my body. The few movies we have watched gives us the "cinema" experience. I would have rated at least 4.5 but there is an oddity listed in the con section I have yet to resolve.

I kept debating between the Klipsch Reference R-20B and the Klipsch R-15PM with a subwoofer added. I knew that I wanted to improve the sound of the TV speaker. Tim suggested the Reference R-20B which was approximately $250 less than the alternative. I will have to say that the Reference R-20B has a great sound and was a breeze to set-up. I have no trouble hearing dialogue now. In addition, I listened to some CD's through the DVD player (Doors, Eagles, Buckinghams). They all sounded great. I have owned for nearly 20 years a component stereo system with an amp, pre-amp, and Paradigm 70-P speakers with powered subwoofers. Naturally, that systems sounds better. But that system also cost a whole lot more than this system. The Klipsch soundbar and subwoofer certainly sound great for the price. I highly recommend. Finally, Crutchfield was great on service. I will be ordering from them in the future since they can provide technical service that some other online vendors do not.

I just happened to get the R-20B because a buddy had the R-10B and I didn't know what he had until I bought mine. I just knew it was a Klipsch Reference. It seems going forward the 10" sub is going away. The R20 has a 10" sub, the new models and the R-10B seem to have 8". This baby works great. I love it. Movies are brought to life and I have a wide open house so it sounds really good. The only issue I have is the Bluetooth is choppy at times. I mean a song will "skip." Maybe I am too far away from the sound bar. The sub that is wireless works great. Oh, the wire hook up design is almost and L you go in and up....that is a bit hard to hide wires. From day one out of the box the powercord bend kindoff broke but not a big deal. Overall, I Love it and Crutchfield was super great.

    Pros: Sounds great, looks great

    Cons: Bluetooth can get choppy

I bought this system for a 200 sq ft room and the sound is incredible. The wireless subwoofer and the included optical cable make set up easy. The only con I have so far is the instructions are unclear. It takes a bit of playing with the "source" buttons to figure out how to toggle between tv audio and bluetooth. Overall 5/5 stars. I purchased this because of a Crutchfield recommendation and research. I wanted quality and this Klipsch sound bar system exceeded my expectations.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the R10 but returned it as I decided that I needed that bigger sub. Great decision. I really needed a sound bar that sounded reasonably good with tv but could jam with Bluetooth music. This turned out to be a perfect choice! You will catch every high not and all cymbals crashing with the bar. Very clear and cryspy sound. If you like reggae, R & B, and hip hop like I do, you can't get better bass for this money!! It rocks my whole house. All in all I think this is the best sound bar you can buy in this price range. Things I don't like: poor range in the Bluetooth (less than 20 feet), the Bluetooth cuts out every now and then. The only solution appears to be turn it off and in again. Also, there is no control for tone adjustments. Thus, you had better like the way it sounds right out if the box because that's it! I hate the 3D sound. Again, great unit for the price despite a few short comings. The sub is worth the price of admission by itself. Enjoy!!????????

Pros: Killer bass Very clear highs

Cons: No tone control Bluetooth distance way too short Blutooth cuts out on occasion.

Good sound with plenty of bass. The bass can be overwhelming so I have to keep it set just below halfway. However, I'm pretty disappointed. I would expect at this price range to have some crossover adjustment. The system could be so much better with just a little adjustment capability. Also, the remote is a total joke. Klipsch should be embarrassed. Ive never had a cheaper feeling or functioning remote at any price level.

Pros: Good sound Plenty of bass Crutchfield service

Awesome sound! Was considering this vs. Polk Audio and after speaking with Andy I decided on the Klipsch. Easy set up, simple features and not loaded down with all the "bells and whistles" that I wouldn't use anyway. Keeping it simple. Nice deep bass. Im glad I went with this over the R-10B. Worth the extra money in my opinion. Crutchfield was great to deal with. I will buy from them again.

We purchased this product for Christmas and Crutchfield was awesome in guiding us to the right product ofr our needs and sending it out promptly. Unfortunately, we got a defective unit that had to be replaced. The replacement is wonderful quality and greatly imrpoved the sound over what was built into our TV. We are very happy with our purchase and even though we had a problem with the original one, Crutchfield immediately sent the replacement and a shipping label for returning the defective one. I would definitely recommend this product and Crutchfield. This soundbars fills our room with the action and our room is 27' by 26'.

Pros: Sound quality is awesome. Very clear even at louder volumes

Cons: We could use a bit more bass due to the size of our room (Large room with cathedral ceiling) but it is still very good and we are still experimenting with the placement of the subwoofer.

Ok, for those of us who want to be immersed in an auditory experience when watching a movie, this is it, use the optical audio link and place the subwoofer in a corner or enclosed area and prepare your ears for an experience. The bass winds up slowly like a locomotive and once going, wow. The sound bar is perfect, the fullest range of your mid and upper frequencies are crisp full toned, the 3D option to the sound is a nice touch for spatial separation, oh and the more you turn it up, the better it sounds, distortion is non existent and the bass is in a sweet spot, depending on the music or movie being heard it is spot on, just buy this thing, it's a sleeper of a product and when you wake it up, you are in for a treat.

Cons: Lack of 3 mm input, but can't have everything now.

Plus auto oon/off when source is found or lost. Solid feeling and quality. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of lack of expandability for rear surround sound speakers. Its now been 4 weeks of using this sounds bar and am satisfied with the sounds delivery and consultation from Crutchfields team. The bar hangs above the the TV and found the clarity and frequencies to be acceptable and pleasing. Thorough equipped with 3D sound technology, I can't say I'm a fan of it. I've opted to keep that function off. Many pros, including proper and deep bass, for those who are bass lovers, and well tuned for audible dialogue. Cons, only optical and RCA outputs. Can only program volume up and down, but not off. It will turn on with TV however. Programming that part was a tad tricky, primarily because the instructions manual is written in an enigmatic way. Syncing Bluetooth is a breeze. Turning off Bluetooth is not typical, but easy enough once learned (had to look it up). I'd buy this product again and do recommend it for those looking for a clean setup and good results. Great for movies and music. It would be 5 stars if there was 1 more output option and the On/Off would work in tandem with TV On/Off.

The sound quality is a very great improvement over the built-in speakers on our new 65" TV. We can understand the dialogue on shows now. I have the cheaper Klipsch R4B. It's great and I love it. Was upgrading to the R20B and going to move the R4 to spare room. Disappointed in the bigger one. Increase in quality of sound was frankly rather minor. Also the R4 has better features, namely a dialogue enhancer on the remote which works great to hear voices plus you can control sublevel woofer from remote. Finally the 3D is much better on the R4. The 20b is horrible. Sounds like a Tin can. Really bummed. Thought I would get a much better R4. Turns out not really just one with less features and a bigger sub. Oh well. Back it goes.

    Pros: Nice sub. Good sound

    Best soundbar for my condo.

Ken from Charlottesville, VA on 11/21/2016

Bought this soundbar for a large, open living space (living/dining/kitchen/sunroom) in our condo. Running wires to speakers with a traditional home theater system would have been prohibitive & messy. This Klipsch system is tremendous. It fills my large room with incredible sound -- something the TV speakers will never do. The wireless sub-woofer was easily placed to be out of the way, yet provides great low-end sound. It's also important to be able to adjust the sub so I'm not bothering my neighbors. The bluetooth connection is a nice addition but I've never been able to have a reliable connection beyond 10-15 feet. Connects are dead simple -- plug in power cords and connect the included digital optical cable. I bought my first set of Klipsch speakers in 1984 and I'm impressed that they are still producing great sounding speakers today. I highly recommend this soundbar.

Pros: Great sound, compact size, easy set-up.

Cons: Only one digital audio connection, no wifi (for streaming my iTunes library to).

Bought this soundbar to replace my klipsch sb 1 in a room that I thought needed more balanced and larger sound. The bar does not disappoint at all. A little disappointed with the bass. The sb1 has as much punch as the sb20 . No trouble with the issue that others have said with it coming on by itself. Per instructions it is hooked directly to the tv with the optical cable. The blue tooth hooked up with no problem. With the large discount would highly recommend this to a friend. It is in a pretty large room, 16x 25 with 14' ceilings and has all the volume most could tolerate.

Pros: Excellent sound for what you expect from a sound bar. It doesn't replace a 5.1 but does a great job with movies and music.

Cons: A little short on low end and wished it had some eq controls.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for big sound centered at the TV, rather than through my separate sound system - this works very well for that. It's definitely not "home theater" sound, but does deliver a big sound for sporting events and movies. I find the 3D setting to be OK for sports, but with a "tinny" and incorrect-sounding center (like through a Shure bullet mic) for music. In standard mode, music sounds very good - very Klipsch-like, which I like. Sub placement is a little tricky, as the right-side dispersion doesn't work well for my particular placement constraints; I'm going to try aiming it "down." At the risk of belaboring another subject, the owners instructions are not at all helpful if things aren't working, though technical support (by phone) was very helpful. The system is unable to learn a new Samsung TV remote - something to do with the Samsung frequency not being standard IR. On the other hand, my universal cable-box remote works just fine with the R-20B. Bluetooth connectivity works very well, so friends piping various devices/internet channels through it works easily. Overall, I'm pleased with this as my full-time TV sound. It won't envelope you like a full surround-sound system will, but that's the limitation of a sound bar system.

Pros: Easy basic set-up Plenty loud Bluetooth connects well

Cons: I prefer my instructions with words, not just pictures Sub doesn't disperse particularly well from right-side orientation Can't "learn" newer Samsung remotes

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The bar is great but I am disappointed in the volume of the bass. I spent the extra money for the 10" bass so I could catch that deep low end. With the sub turned all the way up it is difficult to cath even a little thump.

    Pros: Easy installation easy setup

    Cons: weak bass

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When using the optical interface the soundbar turns back on after a while with my Sony TV off. Klipsch states that the bar is in standby not truly off. Either way its an issue. Having said that.... Awesome sound. Nothing beats it for true to life as uncolored a soundbar you can get at this price. I stream music through it as well and it sounds great. At the price, its a no brainer. If turning off the power switch on the back or hooking it up to a power strip is inconvenient to you then pass this by. I hear this is not a problem if you use the analog inputs. They are coming out with new ones and I hope this issue will be resolved. BTW the remote has a rather tight angle of operation. Just thought this worth mentioning. I am keeping it. My cousin heard mine and ordered one. Very loud w/no distortion and hardly any quality degradation. Beats Bose hands down. Hope this helps.....

    Pros: Awesome sound.

    Cons: Optical interface issue.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit came to me from Crutchfield in the factory box. Set up was very easy. The unit seems to be of high quality, although I would have rather seen the sound bar made of metal than plastic. The plastic looks cheap. The sub woofer is heavy and seems to be well built. It was very easy to place. Now for its sound. Many people say the unit sounds better than the speakers that came built-in with their new flat screen television. Good grief; they should sound better, a whole lot better because that's the purpose of buying them. I found the sound crisp, clear, and lively. The woofer shakes the living room they way it was designed to do. The 3D setting doesn't seem to change the sound much and I leave it off. I'm happy with the purchase and I recommend it. I would have given it five stars had the sound bar been made out of aluminum rather than plastic, like the better, more expensive sound bars are these days.

Pros: Breathtaking sound that shakes the living room

Cons: The sound bar is made of plastic, not aluminum or some metal alloy.

Very happy with the sound, and ease of setup. Instructions are weak, but since the setup is so easy I shouldn't complain too much.

Pros: Very good sound. Dialog is very clear, and the bass is great, too.

Cons: Remote is very small, and the instruction manual is weak at best.

I purchased this system to replace am older Boston Acoustic sound bar that I had and man what a difference. For starters I am dealing with a 10" subwoofer instead of a 6.5" and the clarity even though Boston is known for there speaker and the quality sound that they produce there is still a big difference.

Pros: Sound, Clarity, overall performance and of course price

Cons: No real cons to this system besides manual does not give enough infomation

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good system at a good price. Have to pump up the volume to here how powerful it is. Remote has to be pointed straight on it to work. Base is not as punchy as I was expecting, but then it could be because it's sitting on a rug. I think it would be way better if it was connected to a good receiver. Mines is hooked up to TV optical out. Bluetooth hooks up nicely. Dialogue on movies is pretty clear as long as you have the volume up. Can't tell the volume level for lack of a display. 3D mode is kinda muffled a low volume, really have to pump it up. Music sounds great, & can get pretty loud. Would've been a great system if it had more processed effects with this power. All in all very satisfied with my purchase. Would recommend for people looking for a good powerful loud system.

Pros: Powerful, great clarity, easy to setup, decent sub woofer.

Cons: Lack of a volume display, lack of multiple digital processors. No HDMI pass through. Remote has to be in front of unit to work.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing is an absolute monster! I have it in a room about 400 sq ft. and its more than enough for that space. The sound is really fantastic - its hooked to the TV via Optical. Am planning to hook it to Chromecast Audio to use for music instead of over Bluetooth since Chromecast is clearer. Highly recommend this product! I had a Sony CT660 soundbar before which was nowhere even close to the sound quality and depth this Klipsch soundbar delivers. The wireless subwoofer is heavy and top quality and provides deep bass - it also has a knob to increase or decrease the bass level. The remote is super simple and easy to use. The bar looks great on the wall or on top of a shelf.

Pros: High quality sound, loud, amazing subwoofer for a wireless variety, easy remote

    Cons:

    Nice Product

    Newman from Florida on 9/22/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice product for a sound bar but not equal to a standard stereo system. If you want a sound bar and sub that has good sound, this will do it. If you want amazing acoustics, stick to a standard stereo system with separate speakers. I bought this system for the combination of good highs and full sounding lows. This unit lacks a little in mids but I am overall pleased and would recommend the system. I bought and returned the Heos Soundbar because its lows lacked any volume past 50%.

Pros: Overall sound in a soundbar sub package.

    Cons: Empty mids

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sound bar gives great sound from both the TV and a Bluetooth device. Audio is very clear and it connects very easily. In fact, I have only one small problem with it. I have read where it will turn on by it self even though the cable box is off. I got around that by using the audio output from the TV so it won't turn on in the middle of the night because the TV is off. The problem comes when I am watching TV with headphones (after my wife goes to bed). Every once in awhile the sound bar will come on even though I had turned it off. It's not a big deal but is still enough not to give it 5 stars...maybe 4 3/4!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    Sounds great.

Pros: Great sound. Bass is very powerful. Usually only use like 1/2 of it to watch tv.

Cons: I have the same problem with it turning on by itself. I have it plugged in via optical to my cable box. Tv didn't have one. Don't know if that is the issue. It has a switch on the soundbar I just turn off before bed.

Crutchfield response on 3/11/2015 Thanks for your review. Some cable and satellite boxes automatically power up to receive updates. In turn, the Reference R-20B automatically switches on (when connected directly to the cable/satellite box). Our tech support team reached out to the manufacturer. Klipsch recommends connecting the sound bar to your television, rather than directly to the cable box.

    Great minus one thing

    Slinky from Maryland on 12/21/2014

As everyone else has stated the sound is amazing from clarity of speech to fast-paced action scenes. The sound bar and subwoofer look great and are a breeze to setup, even with the minimalist documentation. My biggest complaint is that when the sound bar is connected directly to the cable box through the digital optical link it will randomly power on. This caused me a fright the first night we had it when I woke up to a movie playing downstairs and I thought someone was in the house. This random on occurs whether the cable box is powered up, in standby, or off. Whatever is tripping the klipsch on is from the optical input. If I disconnect the optical cord the unit stays powered off. The only other annoyance is the included remote really needs to be aimed directly at the sound bar from the front, it doesn't work to well off center.

Pros: Great room filling sound that isn't overpowering. Easy setup and Bluetooth connectivity.

Cons: Poor off-center remote control. Random "power on" bug is annoying to the point of possibly returning, I don't want to keep disconnecting my optical every night.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Product and I love the simplicity of everything from installation to use. The only thing I don't like is that if I have it off and watching TV late at night. The soundbar will randomly kick on and usually I had it at about half volume which is really loud when I don't want a lot of sound. Other than that this is a great product. Didn't know where to rate the turning on randomly so I put in with the Ease of Use category

Pros: Simplistic, clarity and deep bass

Cons: remote has to be heads on to work, turns on randomly when watching tv without the soundbar on originally

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great compact sound bar. Very good for both movie dialogue and music in a compact unit. All wireless connections worked very well. Very simple to get it connected and operated in a few minutes. Had the unit for a few weeks so can't speak of long term reliability. Very happy so far.

Pros: - Strong bass for good movie impact and music performance. Sub woofer wireless connection is automatic. - Great Mid range and clear dialogue. - Ease of use and configuration. Unclustered, simple connection.

Cons: - Sound stage is limited. No image depth. You would need a full size system to achieve those.

    sounds great, limited features

Justin from Austin, TX on 10/23/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Klipsch R-20B is a great soundbar but is limited in features that it supports. although this version adds bluetooth support it lacks airplay or hdmi support. The product is well packaged and includes a template for wall mounting the sound bar. the wireless subwoofer requires no setup and automatically connects to the soundbar once it's powered on. the overall audio is great and provides the needed audio "fill" we were looking for in our bedroom to augment the poor speakers included with every TV.. overall i am satisfied with my purchase. one thing to note is the grill is metallic and not cloth like the older klipsch soundbars. if i had a choice i would prefer a cloth grill. also note that the soundbar enclosure is mainly plastic, although it feels sturdy, it can look and feel slightly cheaper than you would expect for a product in this price range.

    Pros: sounds great

Cons: limited features compared to comparable soundbars, slightly cheap feel to construction/finish

    Features

Soundbar + Wireless Sub System: The Klipsch R-20B Soundbar + Subwoofer Speaker System improves your television and movie sound by simulating a multi-speaker surround sound system. It instantly upgrades your TV sound without requiring a separate receiver and multiple speakers. The Klipsch R-20B consists of a self-powered soundbar speaker and a wireless powered subwoofer, combining for 250-watts (Peak) of dynamic power. The system features an elegant black satin finish to blend in with your flat-panel TV and decor.

    • Active Soundbar w/ Horn-Loaded Technology: The Klipsch R-20B's self-powered soundbar speaker utilizes horn-loading technology designed to send sound more directly to the listening area. By incorporating highly efficient horn-loaded technology into the soundbar, all sounds are more detailed, dialog clarity is significantly improved, and overall output is maximized to cover even the largest listening areas. The soundbar speaker utilizes two 0.75" horn-loaded textile dome tweeters mated with 90° x 90° Tractrix horns that deliver crisp highs. Four 3" polypropylene woofers round out the enhanced sound with crisp vocals and dynamic soundtracks. The Tractrix horns both reduce distortion and increase dispersion more directly to the main listening area. Reduced distortion increases sonic detail while controlled dispersion sends more sound to the listening area for greater accuracy and openness.
    • Wireless Powered Subwoofer: The Klipsch R-20B includes a wireless powered subwoofer with a 10" side-firing fiber composite woofer in a bass reflex enclosure with a rear slot-port. The sophisticated 2.4 GHz technology automatically connects the soundbar and subwoofer together wirelessly; up to 50'. Subwoofer cabinet construction is critical for proper bass reproduction. Particleboard or, even worse, plastic subwoofer cabinets resonate in a manner that severely distorts bass, causing it to sound "boomy". The Klipsch R-20B subwoofer uses a very solid MDF cabinet to prevent unwanted vibration and distortion. The wireless powered subwoofer has an independent volume control dial located on its rear-panel.

3D Surround Mode: The Klipsch R-20B soundbar + subwoofer system features a selectable 3D Surround Mode designed to simulate the effect of a surround sound system. This effect will work at multiple listening positions in your room.

Digital + Analog Connection: The Klipsch R-20B is designed to quickly connect to most TV's using either a digital optical (toslink) connection or an analog (RCA) hookup. Using the digital optical connection, the built-in Dolby Digital decoder accepts sound from both the TV and any device (such as a DVD/Blu-ray player or Cable/Satellite receiver) hooked up to the TV. There is also analog RCA left/right input, if your television does not offer an optical digital output.

Note: The digital optical output terminals of most newer flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Klipsch R-20B features built-in Bluetooth for wireless audio streaming of stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, Windows PC, Mac computer,  and more to the Klipsch soundbar + subwoofer system. The R-20B even supports aptX audio coding technology which allows for lossless, CD-quality wireless streaming of music from an aptX-compatible Bluetooth device (like Android OS 4.0+). You'll continue to use your Bluetooth-enabled device to control music playback functions and to view song/artist information. A simple single button press will pair your device with the R-20B system. Once paired, the R-20B speaker system will automatically re-connect to your device when within range (up to 33').

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Klipsch R-20B.

Remote Control: You can program the Klipsch R-20B's Volume Up/Down and Mute functions into your existing TV remote for further ease-of-operation. You also have the option of controlling all functions of the system with the included IR remote control.

Note: Many newer TVs are coming with RF remotes and don't offer IR functionality. In this case, you would not be able to program the soundbar and TV remote to work together.

Mounting Options: The soundbar speaker can be positioned on a shelf or stand using the supplied rubber feet (the rubber feet add 0.25" to the height of the soundbar speaker). It can also be wall-mounted using its dual keyhole slots and included easy-to-use template (the keyhole spacing is 29.4375"). The slender soundbar speaker aesthetically matches either a wall-mounted or table-top mounted TV. Because the powered sub is wireless it can be positioned almost anywhere up to 50' from the soundbar speaker. It is recommended that the sub be positioned on the same wall as the soundbar. The wireless powered sub will require an AC wall outlet.

Auto Turn-On: This soundbar speaker system will turn on automatically when it receives an audio signal on its optical or analog inputs.

Not sure if I'm understanding the question correctly but you don't need to purchase another remote just for this system because you can pair or sync your tv reomote to this system. If kind of difficult but it can be done to whatever remote you have [ Rashod  Apr 20, 2018 ]
    I don't know. [ Patrick  Apr 20, 2018 ]
Not that I am aware of. If so I would like to try it. Their remote (sucks)! [ RICHARD  Apr 19, 2018 ]
I've bought 3 of this unit and love it. The remote is the worst thing you could ever find. I've always programmed it to a universal remote. Just last month I got a Logitech ui universal. Problem solved again! [ James  Apr 19, 2018 ]
Not to my knowledge [ MICHAEL  Apr 19, 2018 ]
Yes. Just call Klipsch to order one. You will not find it on their web site. Or you can get a larger remote that you won't so easily lose in you Sofa for a little more money. Mine is a Redi Remote I got on Amazon. [ Joseph  Apr 19, 2018 ]
MM...apologies as I still have all my OEM remotes and have never had the need to research aftermarket units at this point. [ Joseph  Apr 19, 2018 ]
To be honest I can not answer this question. What I do know is when you tune in to NETFLEX be sure you turn the volumne down first or it will blow you out of the room! [ RICHARD  Feb 13, 2018 ]

Actually, you don't want to connect a powered soundbar to a theater receiver. That will stop the soundbar from getting the audio to decode using its processor so that you can get the benefit of things like the voice enhancement, and more. HTH! I ordered one about a year ago. One slightly damaged corner on the subwoofer cabinet. Very, very minor. Basically not even noticeable. [ Josh  Oct 26, 2017 ]
I didn't order scratch and dent. I just wanted a really good sound bar and I got it [ Greg  Jan 09, 2017 ]
Can't speak for the LG TV. I have a Vizio(hoping to soon upgrade to an LG OLED set) and programmed my universal remote to operate the volume of the TV and Klipsch soundbar simultaneously. Worked great. I assume the same thing would work with an LG. I ended up turning the TV speakers off because I didn't like the weird echo effect you get when using the Soundbar with TV speakers on. I then discovered you don't need the TV set's speakers with this Soundbar. It is very impressive for its size. Especially with the sub turned up. [ Denver  Jan 06, 2017 ]
It'll work with a cable remote.. But sometimes the cable remote while adjusting the volume will activate the soundbar pairing option. [ Felix  Jan 06, 2017 ]
THis sound bar is amazing sound is incredible. The sound bar has remote learning. I use my Direct TV remote to turn up and down the volume on the Klipsch sound bar works very very well. I do love the Bluetooth feature as well. [ Lance  Jan 06, 2017 ]
HI, Matt my first soundbar is the klipsch because of their quality sound. I knew you could never go wrong with the klipsch. The sound is awesome especially the subwoofer buy it you'll love it. Also I have mine hooked up optically, Mark [ Mark  Jan 06, 2017 ]
Yes. It will pair up with any IR remote [ Richard  Jan 06, 2017 ]
I'm sure you could but would contact Klipsch. [ Lance  Apr 10, 2017 ]

No it has a knob on the sub [ Martin  Apr 04, 2016 ]
NO,not to my knowledge, but the R-20B sounds great [ JAMES  Mar 29, 2016 ]
No. The sub levels have to be adjusted on the sub itself. [ Matthew  Mar 28, 2016 ]
No. It just controls the volume of the bar. The sub has a manual knob for volume control. [ Nikolai  Mar 28, 2016 ]
    No. [ FATHI  Mar 28, 2016 ]
No, it cannot. You set the level of bass on the subwoofer, then the only volume control is for the bar and sub together. [ Jake  Mar 28, 2016 ]
The volume control turns both the sub and soundbar volume simultaneously. There is a seperate know on the sub to control how much bass. [ Richard  Mar 28, 2016 ]
no....sub has a dial that u turn to control how loud u want it [ Tony  Mar 28, 2016 ]
The subwoofer is wireless, it just needs its own power source/outlet. [ Jake  Nov 09, 2015 ]
No, there are no speaker outputs on the sound bar. Only audio in. [ Richard  Nov 08, 2015 ]
I do not use rear speakers and I really do not know the right answer, sorry. [ FATHI  Nov 08, 2015 ]
