Our take on the Klipsch Reference R-26F

Many of the home theater systems that I've designed for Crutchfield customers have centered around Klipsch Reference floor-standing speakers. And the R-26F delivers lots of what we've come to expect from Klipsch: energetic, room-filling sound that brings your music and movie soundtracks to life. Use a pair of these dynamic towers to anchor your home theater system's front sound stage with authority. Or set them up with your two-channel music system and enjoy big, rich stereo sound.

Iconic Klipsch design

Over the years Klipsch has become famous for their Tractrix® horn-loaded tweeter. This design produces clear, accurate high frequencies. The R-26F utilizes this tweeter along with two 6-1/2" copper spun woofers to create natural, full-range sound with solid bass response. It's also very efficient, so you won't need a lot of power to drive it. Two sets of sturdy 5-way binding posts allow for bi-amping or bi-wiring.

Build a complete Reference system

Add more bass to a pair of R-26Fs with a matching subwoofer, or team them with other Klipsch Reference speakers for high-impact home theater.

Great mini speaker tower for the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I tried to replace my old ADS towers with these smaller, lighter speakers as I am getting older and the 85 lb ADS's were a pain to move and might have gotten a bit crusty with age (like this author), but ultimately I returned them after 100 hours of "break-in" failed to damp down the brightness on top and the muddy midrange. There is not much base, either but you could add a sub to solve this. I went back to my old ADS 1090's for clarity and base. I must say that these speakers live up to the makers' claim: they are loud!!

Pros: Attractive and easy to move speaker tower that can play really loud without much power. Can also be bi-amped.

Cons: Somewhat bright upper end (might be due to only 100 hours use), but muddy midrange and not much base. Needs a sub.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great speaker! The sound is fantastic, and it gets LOUD (I usually find myself listening in the -40 to -30 dB range on my receiver). I had been using a set of Klipsch Promedia speakers on my TV, and while I thought it sounded very good, I'm amazed at how much better these sound! The highs are crisper, the mids are cleaner, and overall these sound fuller. I never would have thought that my Promedia set sounded small, but now that I have these to compare to, they absolutely do! I paired these with a Klipsch R-10SW subwoofer and set of Klipsch R-15M bookshelf speakers for surrounds, while running them off a Yamaha RX-V381.

Purchased the pair with a R-10SW. Great sound projection. The efficiency makes it possible to lower the volume in comparison with Definitive Technology 8040's that I used prior. Full spectrum sound with movie tracks (haven't played music them long enough to judge) without any noticeable dips or spikes. Will have to update once they are broken in.

Just got these 3 weeks ago and broke them in for about 50 plus hours until cranking them up. Pushing them 626 onkyo and a self powered klipsch 10" sub. Can't be any happier with these. The only problem. Need a Bigger room. Thx Crutchfield

Absolutely love my new R-26f speakers! They are well made, look beautiful and most important, sound crystal clear. These speakers sound better than speakers I've heard that cost 3-4 times their price. Well worth the $$$$. I have them paired with a Klipsch RC24 center channel and a Klipsch 12" Synergy sub. Sounds insane!! :)

Pros: Great quality Great sound Great looks Incredible price

Cons: None!

Excellent towers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Klipsch speaker line is top notch! I initially found them to be a little too bright, but that turned out to be due to the crossover setting on my receiver. After adjusting the crossover they sound outstanding! Tremendous amount of power and will rock the entire house.

Pros: great authoritative towers

Cons: none that I can see

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave these Klipsch R-26F speakers 5 stars even tho i returned them. Quality of materials was excellent. Fit and finish was excellent (even tho these are made in China). The bass side of the output was very impressive. I returned them because of the horn tweeters. They sounded too bright, too nasally, kind of uncomfortable. Highly directional, which I thought was a good thing, since I sat in a strategically placed chair while listening. I just could not find a way to like the sound. Others may like the Klipsch sound immediately after setting them up, but I don't buy into the idea that I have to get used to new speakers. I have some excellent Axiom speakers which I found very warm and natural and pleasant to listen to right out of the box. These Klipsch are excellent speakers if you like that signature sound they have, which is why I gave 5 stars. I guess one either likes the Klipsch sound or doesn't.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent mid range and highs. I was originally hesitant to purchase as these dont have titanium coil in the tweeters and the woofers are graphite overlayed instead of cerametallic. I opted for the r26f after seeing the klipsch with these features around the same pricepoint had 5 1/4 inch woofers instead of 6 1/2 inch. In my opinion a subwoofer is not needed with this set up. You will want to dial in reciever settings for the best bass, but these speakers are extremley well rounded. After much research i discovered some audiophiles prefer aluminum to titanium tweeters.

Pros: Price, if on sale Excellent highs hear every detail Mids are perfect

Cons: Bass is sufficient and deep but i do wonder what the next series up sounds like with cerametallic woofers

Features

1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The R-26F floorstanding speaker features Klipsch's proprietary Tractrix Horn technology mated with a 1" aluminum LTS tweeter, for impressive high-end response and greater extension, enhanced imaging and powerful dynamics.

  • Tractrix Horn Technology: The square Tractrix Horn delivers a 90° (w) x 90° (h) dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.
  • LTS (Linear Travel Suspension): Behind each horn lies a 1.0-inch aluminum tweeter with a linear travel suspension to minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Dual 6.5" Copper-Spun IMG Woofers: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding speaker is outfitted with two 6.5" Copper-Spun IMG woofers. The Copper-Spun IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) woofer is exceptionally light while being extremely rigid - providing remarkable low frequency response, with minimal cone breakup and distortion.

Front-Firing Port: The Klipsch Reference series floorstanding speaker features a front-firing port that is perfectly matched to the cabinet and drivers. The front placement of the port creates ideal airflow with minimal distortion.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding speaker features a MDF cabinet with a brushed polymer veneer black finish that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is utilized because of its damping characteristics for natural, uncolored sound without unwanted vibration and distortion.

Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is acoustically transparent.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference series floorstanding speaker is fitted with two sets of 5-way binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single or dual), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and bare wire (up to 10AWG).

Integrated Rubber Feet: The Klipsch R-26F floorstanding speaker features four integrated rubber feet for placing the speaker securely and safely on your hardwood, laminate, or tile floor (these rubber feet should never be removed). The floorstanding speaker does not come with any carpet spikes.

Placement: For optimum performance, Klipsch suggests placing the floorstanding speakers 6' to 15' apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.

Reference Series: The Klipsch Reference series consists of three floorstanding speakers (R-24F/R-26F/R-28F), two bookshelf speakers (R-14M/R-15M), one center channel speaker (R-25C), and one surround speaker (R-14S). The Klipsch Reference series line-up of loudspeakers sound great in stereo and home theater applications.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the R-26F floorstanding speaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).

The most amazing home theater system I have ever seen and heard used all Klipsch speakers. Obviously they were top of the line and better than these I just purchased, but it's the same engineering. I have a THX 2.1 Klipsch speaker system on my home computer that is absolutely amazing also. I have been wanting to upgrade my home theater system speakers and Klipsch is what I wanted. At this price it is a no brainer. I will be ordering the center channel and surrounds shortly. [ Mark  Jul 13, 2017 ]

No way of lowering it to 6 ohms, they are 8 ohms all day, all night [ Miguel  Aug 02, 2017 ]
No. They are 8-Ohm nominal. That means they are safe for receivers rated at 8 ohms. Speakers Ohm's change depending on frequency. You may get an actual 5-1/2 to 80ohms. These sound great with 100 watts. They are very sensitive 98Db [ Ken  Aug 01, 2017 ]

Thanks for your question. The 60 days is a Crutchfield satisfaction guarantee. You can return/exchange the item for any reason during that period. Any time after that the manufacturers warranty continues to apply. Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Feb 17, 2017 ]  Staff
No damage - these speakers can really "SPEAK VOLUMES" - you'll be fine - you can really crank them up - wonderful sound! [ Patricia  Jan 30, 2017 ]
All I can tell you is that my R-26F is pair up Audio/video receiver, Turn table, and compact cassette deck it works well and give great sound. Hope that information help you. [ GENEVIEVE A  Jan 30, 2017 ]
No. That's not what that means. RMS is a preferred max setting. You can push the speakers with a 120 watt/ch amp, heck...even one that's 150 watts/ch. You just won't be able to turn it up to max volume is all. I have 2 of these pushed by 120 w Onkyo receiver, volume never gets over 42 on a movie or 35 on music. . Thats loud enough for me, I assume the volume knob goes to 80 or even 100. You would never run speakers at max volume anyway, so you'll be fine. [ ALDRIC  Jan 29, 2017 ]
