This speaker's rigid woofer produces accurate bass and mid-bass. The pivoting horn lets you direct clean highs toward your favorite listening spot, for a broad soundstage with well-defined imaging. And a tweeter level switch helps you adjust the sound to suit your personal taste and your room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their aluminum tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn." This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound. The pivoting Tractrix® horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Slimmer chance of being seen

The '3650-W II keeps a low profile with its SlimTrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the R-3650-W II in new construction.

Features

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-wall speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 92dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

Two-Way Speaker Design: use The Klipsch R-3650-W II uses a rigid 1" aluminum compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a 6.5" IMG woofer in a 2-way design.

  • Tweeter: A 1" aluminum dome compression tweeter mated to a 6" square, pivoting Tractrix Horn, which disperses the sound 90° horizontally and 60° vertically into the room. The horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The pivoting horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter. The addition of a Linear Travel Suspension to the tweeter increases high frequency detail and smoothness.
  • Woofer: The in-wall speaker employs a copper-colored 6.5" IMG (injection molded graphite) woofer. The solid IMG woofer cone has been strengthened for even more accurate bass reproduction.

Tweeter Attenuation Switch: If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch, located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The R-3650-W II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Speaker Terminals: The Klipsch R-3650-W II in-wall speaker features two spring-clip terminals which will accept bare speaker wire (up to 12-AWG) or pin-connectors. The spring-clip speaker terminals are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

Mounting Options

New Or Pre-Existing Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout of 7.9375" (w) x 13.0625" (h), with a mounting depth of 3.6875". For new construction, purchase of the IK-650-W installation kit (714IK650W, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

IR Knockout: A 1/2" diameter knockout panel is provided in the lower left hand corner of the speaker frame for installing an IR sensor.

These can be used as surround speakers. I had Crutchfield design a system for my basement family room and these are the ones they recommended. I've been really happy with the sound they produce.

Q
Can this model be used as a centre speaker? Or should it only be used for front speakers
morris  Jul 01, 2017
1 answer
A
Really any speaker can be a center speaker. But i don't think it will spread out threw the room proper like the klipsch center speaker (Klipsch R-5502-W I). The 5502 really does spread the sound threw the room nicely. I know it's a bit more for the center, but I think it was well worth it. The center is like 2 speakers in one.

Q
Can the Klipsch R-3650-w speakers be used in a ceiling installation? They fit the existing holes in my ceiling.
carlos  Jan 19, 2016
1 answer
A
I don't why the couldn't, I used mine for wall install, I think it's more like the rectangular shape is for wall install, but I don't think it matters whether they are in wall or ceiling. If they fit the opening, I wouldn't bother to try anything else. Good Luck

Q
What is the difference between: "Klipsch R-3650-W II" and "Klipsch R-3650-W" ? They sell for a difference of $100 on your site. The specs for the two items are identical.
alexander  Dec 02, 2013
1 answer
A
The Klipsch R-3650-W II does have slightly better high end performance due to a difference the tweeters on the two speakers. However, the R-3650-W are very similar and are at a special purchase price right now.
