Elevate your surround sound experience with Dolby Atmos and Klipsch speakers

Here's your ticket to thrilling surround sound effects. The Reference Premiere Series RP-140SA surround speakers feature proprietary Klipsch speaker technologies designed to work with Dolby Atmos soundtracks to re-create an immersive, high-impact listening experience.

Not familiar with Dolby Atmos? It's the latest surround sound technology from the movie- and theater-sound experts at Dolby Laboratories. It adds a height dimension to your home theater, for enhanced immersion and spatial effects. From the soft patter of a gentle rain to the roar of a jet plane flying overhead, you'll enjoy dynamic surround sound that elevates your entire home theater.

Bounce sound off the ceiling for enhanced surround effects

How do these speakers work? Each features a Cerametallic™ 4" woofer and a Hybrid Tractrix® horn tweeter on the top of the speaker. These drivers are angled and feature controlled dispersion, so they can reflect sound off of your ceiling and back down to your listening positions. The RP-140SA speakers are designed sit on top of your existing floor-standing speakers. Use a pair with your front towers, or add another pair to the rear surround towers for an even more enveloping experience. The RP-140SA can also be wall-mounted for use as standard, high-performance surround sound speakers.

Build a complete Klipsch Dolby Atmos system

Team a pair or two of RP-140SA surrounds with other Klipsch Reference Premiere Series speakers to create a high-impact Atmos home theater system.

These make watching Dawn of Justice and Transformers fun to watch because of the Dolby Atmos Audio layer embedded into the discs. Not sure if I've calibrated them correctly, but my room is loud though!

Pros: Nice build quality!

Cons: Pay attention to those crossover points!

Solid speakers

Tim from Cherry Hill, NJ on 1/12/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers are attractive, solid, and have some weight to them. Can really judge the sound too much since they are just for front fill (in my set up). That being said, based upon the look of the drivers and the weight of the box, these speakers can handle some decent power!

Pros: Solid construction. Very attractive. Easy to hang.

Cons: Haven't been able to push them hard yet to hear their true sound.

RP-140SA complete my home theater set up. Excellent sound and experience all around. Makes movies and Netflix come alive. Glad I went with these 2 in the rear with 2 Klipsch R26-FA Atmos ready speakers up front. Center channel, Klipsch RP-250C. Great sound in all directions.

Pros: Completes/compliments the entire Dolby Atmos experience. Really glad to have these.

Cons: None

Great quality and brand!

David from Lansing, MI on 11/26/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers overall, but If you're using them as atmos upfiring speakers I'd highly recommend using four with a compatible AVR in order to truly be worth while. (Only if you can't ceiling mount) Also, if you are thinking of using them for any other purpose (Like surrounds etc) then I highly recommend something like the rp-240s instead. I have both and like the 240's WAY more. Just my two cents after months of research and testing. But regardless, they are still very nice speakers, and I love my full Klipsch system! Ps. I eventually returned my rp140's and added a second sub and Bi-amped my front towers, and MUCH happier with the over results, BY FAR! Just something to think about...

Pros: Build quality and clarity.

Cons: Little effect with non Atmos content, even with DTS-X, especially when only using 2 speakers instead of all four.

Great Add on to existing 5.1 system

Henry from San Francisco, CA on 11/21/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased thes Klipsch RT-140SA to add on to my existing B and W 600 series 5.1 system. They work great resting on top of the floor standing speaker. They reflect an extra surround sound from the front and with dolby Atmos enabled you can really hear the overhead sounds come through. Great addition to existing system.

Pros: Great addition to 5.1. Can hear the Dolby Atmos effects and get a WOW factor.

Cons: Need to adjust the sound level to these speaker to a higher level.

Great speakers. I added them to an existing system as part of a home theater upgrade for Dolby Atmos support. The speakers paired well, and sound great. The speakers have a lot of flexibility too, mount on the wall, or set on top of existing speakers. Well worth the money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice add on speakers to get the new ATMOS sound. These got good reviews and do fit in seamlessly with my older Infinity speakers. Perfect fit right on top of my front towers. I've never been a Klipsch guy, but I have no regrets getting these. They are a solidly built speaker. I wasn't ready to add four of these, but two do give you an extra dimension. I've only seen two movies with Dolby ATMOS and I wasn't blown away but you do sense a fuller surround experience. As I've read, you don't really get pin point object placement with just two but it comes close. My wife didn't notice the difference but I wouldn't go back to just 5.1. My new 5.2.2 set up sounds better than ever!

Pros: Nice size if you like your current speakers and can't afford to replace them

Cons: Little expensive

Steve from Schaumburg, IL on 6/10/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great way to implement an ATMOS speaker configuration when you already have a significant chunk of money invested in a speaker system (assuming your existing speakers can accommodate the footprint of the up-firing Klipsch). And the sound quality is as good as one expects from a Klipsch!

Pros: Cost effective way to implement a high quality ATMOS environment with an existing speaker system

Cons: Existing speakers must have the dimensions required to properly support the up-firing Klipsch

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this product only reason I do not give a five star is because I am thinking about getting some in ceiling speakers.

Pros: Gives me Atmos options during movie playback that are Atmos coded

Cons: Probably not as good as in ceiling speakers

Good quality but...

Thomas from Hampton, VA on 3/14/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Quality of the speakers seem to be first rate and when I run the receiver's setup program they seem to produce good sound. However, I cannot honestly say that I've found any of the movie content all that special. I have a pair of Klipsch RP-280FAs on the front with a pair of RP-260Fs in the rear and I have a Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A2060 driving everything. Oh, and I have a Klipsch RP-450CA as my center channel. Not totally sure that with my investment in the RP-140s that I'm receiving a lot of bang for my buck...but suppose it is possible that I'm just not running the best Atmos content yet. Of the entire setup I would have to say that the 450CA center channel speaker is the real star of my AV show!

Pros: If I'm being totally honest, I really cannot think of any Pros...yet.

Cons: Not a superstar

Superb design and function from Klipsch Atmos

Steve from North Platte, NE on 1/22/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Klipsch RP-140SA Atmos speakers are an excellent addition to my system. They bring a depth of sound, and a clarity from my center channel and my front surround speakers. When playing content from a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, such as Kingsman Secret Service or San Andreas (using Atmos), the sound is superb! I am using an Oppo UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player also purchased from Crutchfield - and the total enclosure of sound is excellent. When viewing San Andreas, you could pinpoint sounds from above, like a helicopter flying rescue missions with The Rock, or sounding like my ceiling would collapse. The LFE subwoofer content was easily defined through my Paradigm subwoofer. To conclude - I would highly recommend the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140SA Atmos speakers. My rear surround speakers are Klipsch (ceiling mounted) and the pairing of the RP-140SA speakers by Klipsch really brought a focus, specificity and clarity of sound from all directions. I could not be happier with my purchase, even though the Klipsch Atmos speakers are a bit pricy but well worth it.

Pros: Clarity, ease of set up, quality of sound

Cons: Cost a bit prohibitive, works best with a flat ceiling, not vaulted - to reflect sound off ceiling and back to listening position

Roy from Garden Ridge, TX on 9/11/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using Klipsch products for over 50 years. I added the RP-140SA's to the other Klipsch speakers with the idea that if I couldn't hear a difference I'd use them elsewhere. One of the reviews I read stated that they used the movie 'San Andreas' to demonstrate the height speakers so I did also. When the scene of the ceiling cracking came on my attention was automatically drawn toward the ceiling. I plan on adding a second set for the width. I am using using a Marantz SR 7008 receiver. These speakers are an excellant inexpensive improvement.

Pros: SR

Excellent after setup

Lenitox from San Juan, PR on 5/30/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm using this with Klipsch speakers Fronts RP260f, center RP450c, sub R112sw and for surround (not updated yet) an old pair of Klipsch Quintet speakers, all paired with a Anthem 720 receiver. I placed this speakers in top of the front towers and at first I didn't notice much difference using the Movie San Andreas with dolby atmos for reference. I noticed the sound was really low when standing in front of the speaker. I had to run again the receiver room correction(ARC) and that made a Huge difference. I noticed that almost all speakers where set to 0db and this where at +5db. The other thing the fronts, center and sub speakers level where set at 0 to +2 and this where at +8 (max is +10). After this setup the Atmos effect was really amazing! I had to make some other adjustments on the receiver to really get the full Atmos effect and those adjustments where increasing the db one more and increasing the distance one more feet from where they really are (my fronts are at 11 feet and I set the Atmos which are at the same distance to 12 feet. After this setup was completed I played the movie San Andreas to my wife and during the earthquake scene she was literally ducking and looking to the cealing from the sounds effects lol! In conclusion I really recommend this speakers for an Atmos experience.

Pros: Excellent mid and highs, can be used as a Atmos or surround speaker, once is setup correct awesome Atmos effects

Cons: You Have to spend time to find the perfect spot to place them and adjust your receiver to work as a Atmos speaker and then really feel the sound coming from the ceiling

Increases Soundstage

Nicholas from Clearfield, UT on 4/7/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 7.1.2 Atmos (front height config) set-up but I'm using my pair of RP-140SA as rear surround speakers. I have a window behind my couch so I have these mounted on the wall above the window, angled down. These speakers provide a nice "upper" rear L/R surround sound. I'm using Klipsch Reference RS-42 II as front height speakers. Great product! I don't think these speakers "perform" as well as the other speakers in my RP280 / RP250 / RP450 set-up, but they are fine as surround or height speakers. Frequency response and sensitivity specs are not being advertised??

Pros: Small East to mount on wall Can be used in multiple configurations

Cons: Specs not listed Pricey

Fantastic Speakers!

Donald from Tonopah, NV on 3/31/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just added these to my Onkyo amp to complete my Atmos system and all I can say is "Wow"! These are very nice, well built speakers and really fill the room with sound. Like another reviewer before me, I notice most of the sound is toward the front speakers but I haven't had a lot of ti,e to play around with their placement yet. I'm going to wait a week and give them and the cables time to really burn in before I auto calibrate the room to see how things respond. So far, the sound is really crisp and clean coming out of them. I put on some Jools Holland with his big band sound and his various artist friends so I could hear a variety of music and instruments. These speakers pick up every detail, especially in the vocals. Should be good for you movie fans who hate rewinding your discs to pick up on missed dialog.

Pros: Great sound and build quality. Much better looking than most other add-on Atmos speakers. These look good in your system even if your other speakers aren't Klipsch (mine are all JBL but JBL doesn't seem inclined to make up-firing Atmos add-ons even though the technology has been out there for three years now).

Cons: A bit on the pricey side but you definitely get what you pay for.

High Quality Atmos Modules

AH from PA on 3/29/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While I'm giving these modules a full 5 stars, unfortunately they will not work in my room configuration. The proper effect these give is very dependent on the room layout and setup, so the best thing to do is to try them out and see if they work for you. For me the sweet spot occurred within 5 feet of the TV, which is about half the actual distance to my seating position. Before trying these, I purchased the Def Tech A60's to test them out. You can read my review on that product page for more information. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with their quality. The Klipsch speakers are a huge upgrade over the Def Tech's. The overall build and sound quality of the Klipsch are great. Reflected sound, when positioned appropriately, is very convincing. I would recommend if you're going this route to have both front and rear atmos modules to complete the overall effect. Simply having them on the front speakers created a great soundstage in the front top/front of the viewer, but the rear seemed stagnant as a result. Another thing that set these ahead of the pack -- they provide the modules with rubber feet out of the box. I've tried several other brands modules which did not have this simple addition. Bottom line - if they work with your room configuration, you will be very pleased with these atmos modules.

Pros: Build quality. Sound quality. Great overhead effect. Looks higher quality than other atmos modules. Comes with rubber feet to protect surfaces.

Cons: No baffle or dampening in front to prevent direct radiated effects. Requires (2) sets of modules for full immersion effect.

Fabulous sound and an effective link to new technology

Dishington from murrysville, PA on 3/29/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded to an Atmos-capable receiver and wanted to take advantage of the new technology without doing a whole new speaker buy. The Klipsch Atmos add-ons were the perfect solution. The sound is first class, easily matching my hallowed existing speakers, and the sound stage was HUGE. I cannot recommend this upgrade highly enough if you are in the same predicament I was.

Pros: Quality construction and sound; the best Atmos add-on speaker on the market; good looking; no trade-offs.

Cons: None.

RP-140SA

Bob B. from palos hills, IL on 2/17/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use the speakers as surround speakers. My room is a bit narrow and because the speakers are angled down they work perfect for my room. I like the sound and the surround effect is improved over the previous speakers. All my speakers (except subwoofer) are Klipsch now and I think that has helped the overall sound of my home theater set up.

Pros: Good sound. East to mount on the wall. Works good as a surround sound speaker.

Cons: None

Nice addition

Perry Z - LA from Los Angeeles on 1/3/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were a nice addition to my system. The week prior to receiving them I upgraded my receiver to the Onkyo TX-RZ900 so I wanted to be able to take advantage of the Atmos features so I bought the Klipsch RP-140SA set. Our living room shape does not allow me to put speakers around the room so I have 5 speakers all up front so these add a new dimension since they are directional and push the sound up. This works well since we have vaulted ceilings. Overall, I am very happy with them and feel that they do improve the overall quality of the listening experience.

Pros: Good quality, worthwhile addition. No sonic discrepancies with my 5 NHT speakers (from Crutchfield also). They are pricey but I figure they last a lifetime so what the heck.

Cons: None that I'm aware of.

Dolby Atmos Enabled speaker

Sparky from Illinois on 1/1/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the first Klipsch speakers I've purchased. I added these to a 5.1 home theater set up. Set up was fairly easy with the Denon In Command receiver I used crimped mini bananas and the connections were good using Audioquest 16 g speaker wire.

Pros: Good quality Klipsch Atmos enabled speakers. Easy set up with Denon In Command receiver

Cons: So far I'm pleased but there aren't that many Dolby Atmos movies available. Also they aren't recommended if you have a cathedral ceiling.

Dolby Atmos Elevation Speaker: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140SA is a Dolby Atmos enabled home theater speaker which adds the Dolby Atmos elevation effect to any existing home theater speaker system to create an atmosphere of rich, detailed sound, or can be used as a surround speaker

Dolby Atmos: Dolby Atmos delivers captivating, object-based sound that places and moves audio anywhere in the room to bring entertainment alive all around the audience. With Dolby Atmos sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill a home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail and depth. Learn more out Dolby Atmos here.

Klipsch Design Philosophy: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140S delivers on Klipsch's speaker design philosophy; low distortion, high efficiency, flat frequency response, broad dynamic range, and controlled directivity.

Tractrix Horn Technology: Klipsch Tractrix Horn technology allows the RP-140SA speaker to meet the directivity and sensitivity specifications that Dolby requires for Dolby Atmos enabled speakers. This is what has allowed Klipsch to produce its unique two-way speaker and horn-loaded design, in a Dolby Atmos enabled speaker.

Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140SA features proprietary Hybrid Tractrix Horn technology coupled with a Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) titanium tweeter to produce the most effective release of sound waves for clean, natural listening experiences. The horn's outer layer is silicone-based rubber, which eliminates resonance of the horn housing, improving detail and resolution. The LTS tweeter ensures minimized distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

  • 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.
  • LTS Tweeter: Behind the Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Cerametallic Woofer: The 3.5" woofer of the RP-140SA loudspeaker features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range. The woofer also employs a rubber surround for added durability. A design that when paired with the Tractrix Horn-loaded LTS tweeter combines for incredible high efficiency.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-140SA speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Sealed MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-140SA employs an acoustic suspension enclosure for tight accurate bass. The sealed enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a premium wood-grain polymer veneer and a polymer front baffle. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The Dolby Atmos enabled loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-140SA is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-140SA offers flexibility when mounting the Dolby Atmos enabled speaker.

  • Rubber Feet: The Dolby Atmos enabled loudspeaker features four integrated rubber feet so you can sit the speakers on top of your existing front tower loudspeaker securely. The top of your loudspeaker needs to be flat and measure at least 6.0625" (w) x 11.4375" (d).
  • Wall Mounting: The Klipsch RP-140SA speaker features a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied).

Why did you buy this?

best speaker on the market, high quality products [ Doug  May 30, 2018 ]
To complete my Klipsch surround system. [ Maximo  Apr 20, 2018 ]
With the addition of one more pair of Klipsch RP-140SA speakers, my 7.2.4 home theater system will be complete. I don't want to install ceiling speakers and like the clean look of these sitting on the existing speakers. With some wire management the setup looks great. These speakers perform as advertised. [ Eric  Mar 29, 2018 ]
These are a must to get the Dolby Atmos effect when placed on top of the RP-280F's. Can't wait!!! [ Charles  Mar 28, 2018 ]

Because Nate at Crutchfield recommended them to add to my current set up. [ The Engineer  Dec 24, 2017 ]
Best atmos speakers. [ Elvin  Dec 24, 2017 ]
I have a complete Klipsch surround system and these would make a great addition to my listening experience. With the new 4K movies and with the improved sound dimensions in the videos these Atmos speakers will add that extra dimension to the sound as more titles are created and released in this format. It is great to be able to add the up-firing Atmos sound channels without having to use in celiling speakers. My Klipsch system has been a great speaker system for many years of service. [ David  Dec 24, 2017 ]

Quality of the Klipsch products. Want to complete my atmos experience that I started last year. [ J.J.  Nov 28, 2017 ]
I chose the Klipsch RP-140SA to add ATMOS versatility to my front and rear RP-280F's and RP-260F's respectively. Also, I went with the RP-280F's instead of the RP-280FA's due to its less expensive to purchase the add-on ATMOS RP-140SA's. [ WILLIS C.  Nov 27, 2017 ]
Purchased to these Atmos speakers in order to complete my Klipsch home theater speaker setup. I have been very pleased with the RP product line from Klipsch. [ CHRISTOPHER S  Nov 27, 2017 ]

Best atmos module speaker in the market. [ Erick  Sep 06, 2016 ]
I have a fantastic audio system and I had already purchased a set of RP-140SA ATMOS SPEAKERS so I knew that they performed very well with my Pioneer Elite. Having all of other speakers being Klipsch Reference the choice was obvious. The design, performance and frankly with sale price being at a good price point I knew that the time to act was now. [ Steve  Jun 19, 2016 ]
I chose this to complete my Klipsch Reference system. I am planning on upgrading to Atmos in the coming year so I knew that I needed these speakers eventually. For now, they'll make nice back surrounds until I can find a good deal on a receiver. [ Domingo  Jun 05, 2016 ]

Quality Product and matches my existing speaker system [ bart  Dec 27, 2015 ]
I just purchased the Onkyo RZ-900 with Dolby Atmos so I wanted to add these to my sound system to enhance the full sound quality. I have 5 speakers already but unfortunately our living room does not allow me to place speakers behind the sitting area so I'm hoping these will add to the fullness of surround sound. [ PERRY  Dec 20, 2015 ]
I recently added a new AV Receiver that support Dolby ATMOS. I was looking for a quality ATMOS add-on speaker to use with my Definitve Technology BP-10 main speakers. Most, if not all, of the reviews I read spoke highly of this speaker. I had looked at the Onkyo SKH-410 due to their price, but one reviewer had these and had upgraded to the RP-140SA's. He said the Klipsch was an improvement over the Onkyo. I just wish the Klipsch were a little lower in price. [ Thomas P.  Dec 11, 2015 ]
I have all klipsch speakers and recently added a Dolby atmos receiver. Waited for klipsch to produce these speakers. Ready to add. [ Robert  Dec 07, 2015 ]
These two speakers are needed for the top of the tower speakers for the sound effect of the sound bouncing off the ceiling and on to the walls while traveling around the room. [ Dwayne  Dec 04, 2015 ]

3 questions already asked

I use the 18awg. Either one is sufficient though [ SEAN  Nov 09, 2017 ]
I currently use Monster XP wire which is around the 14-16 AWG. I also used banana plugs, but this size wire will fit under the wire nut, too, if that's what your curious about. Thes speakers are a small load so I'm sure 18 AWG would work fine as well. [ Kris  Nov 09, 2017 ]
I'm using the RP140SA to provide Atmos height for my front Cornwall speakers. However, if I were setting them for rear or surround, I would first determine if a direct sound projection or a reflected sound projection was appropriate for the room size, ceiling height and target location. If reflected sound is desired, I would place them as you have but in order to determine the right placement height you should calculate the appropriate angle and distance to the target listening location...this may require a little trial and error to get it right but it's worth it...good luck and enjoy. [ RICHARD A  Mar 28, 2017 ]
From a installation guidelines I used : "For optimal effect and to minimize direct radiating audio at listener level, place speakers at or slightly above the height of your ears when seated. Avoid placing the speakers higher than one half the height of your wall". I believe the reason is so that the sound can diffuse more evenly. So 1 meter sounds like it will be too high. I have placed mine on top of my 4 ref speakers (front and rear) about 58" from the ceiling. They work great. Hope that helps. [ EDWARD  Mar 28, 2017 ]
