The Reference Premiere Series difference

Never one to rest on its laurels, Klipsch has been busy refining and improving its designs to create loudspeakers that blow the doors off of its loyal followers' expectations. The new Reference Premiere Series builds on the acoustics and technologies of Klipsch's classic Reference Series, with important enhancements that provide an even more intense listening experience.

Hybrid Horn technology for dynamic performance

Klipsch RP-240S surround speaker

With its two Hybrid Tractrix horns and dual 4" Cerametallic woofers, the RP-240S is built to effortlessly deliver clear, powerful Klipsch sound.

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's newly designed Hybrid Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. Compared to previous Klipsch models, this horn design delivers a wider sweet spot with more precise placement of instruments and vocals. Even the horn material itself has been upgraded to molded silicone rubber that helps decrease resonance for smoother, warmer highs.

High-tech woofer design

The RP-240S's dual 4" Cerametallic™ woofers dish out smooth midrange and articulate, well-defined bass. Klipsch makes its cones out of specially treated aluminum that's strong yet lightweight to dampen and prevent distortion. With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave this woofer a newly developed titanium voice coil former that allows more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response.

Build a complete Klipsch system

Team a pair or two of RP-240S surrounds with other Klipsch Reference Premiere Series speakers to create a high-impact home theater system.

The 240 vs the bookshelf 150's

Steve C. from Fort Worth, TX on 1/17/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I could not decide on this speaker or the RP-150s for my rear speakers. I did get these and try them out. for me the 240's sounded more fuller and richer than these. Spatial as well. I did not need any more bass as I have the Klipsch 112 sub woofer. Crutchfield made it easy to get both of these and then decide, so I did, and I returned the RP-150's based on my experience of the sound I needed for the rears. yes I know they are cheaper than the 240's, but I don't plan on updating any time soon so thus me keeping the 240's and returning the 150's I have these on a stand so I don't know how they would sound hung. for my needs it is a perfect fit. these replaced the Bose 301's as I have the RP-280FA for my fronts

Pros: Spatial rear sound compact so it fits on a stand

Cons: none that I can think of

Surround Madness.

Cesar from Barceloneta, PR on 1/4/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these paired with the Klipsch-RP280F/RP450C/RP140S/(2) SVS PB-1000 subs and a Denon X4300H 9.2ch receiver. The sound reproduction coming out of these speakers is just loud, powerful & crystal clear. They're a bit bigger than I was expecting but they have such a beautiful finish and solid build quality that it really makes you forget about their size. I also like their wide diffuse field, this is good because it covers a great area in the room without sacrificing the sound transition and blending with the rest of the front stage speakers. Bottom line, if your looking for some serious surround madness experience to enjoy Atmos & DTS X movies, try to get a pair of these, you won't regret it.

Pros: Excellent wide diffuse field. Solid build quality. Powerful & clear sound

Cons: None so far

The sound is impressive and the multidirectional aspect makes these great for surround speakers. The grills are attached magnetically, which gives them a very clean look without the grill, if you happen to prefer your speakers that way.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Solid well finished speaker, the magnetic grill is a really cool extra feature. I have not dialed these in all the way but these speakers of have changed the sound of EVERYTHING in a good way. The sound is crisp and clean. These are in a large living room and have no problem keeping up; briefly looked at the 250s but thought the extra money may not be worth the gain. I do not regret this purchase at all.

Pros: Solid Feel Great Sound Classic Klipsch look

Great speakers, I have two LS6 fronts, 2 X-static rear pointing up from the floor, X-voce center and the two side Klipsch speakers blend in perfectly with the others. My amp delivers 300 watts per channel and it is rare now days to find speakers that can withstand that wattage. I have a 17' by 30' theater room overhead projector and all my friends come over and say great things about the realistic surround sound. Thank you Klipsch and Crutchfield for your high quality customer service. RP-240S

Shawn from Fayetteville, AR on 3/15/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the sound out of these Klipsch surrounds! I had upgraded my fronts to Reference Premieres and was tolerating my surrounds from another manufacturer. When I had the money, I purchased these 240s speakers. They sound great, blend perfectly (no more pinpointing my surround speakers while watching a movie), easily a match for my RF-280F's in my small living room. The 280's were total overkill for my room but I only make a purchase that big every decade or so. I was worried these smaller surrounds would not match well but they hold their own perfectly!

Pros: Great sound. Diffuse but clear. Nearly perfect surround speakers.

Cons: I use thicker speaker cables which are difficult to fit behind these speakers. Flatter cable or in wall cables recommended but the thicker cables will fit with some work.

AWESOME Surrounds

Jamie from Marietta, GA on 2/13/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These surrounds are AMAZING!!! The dispersion of sound and quality of sound is unbelievable. With these speakers, I am hearing things that I haven't heard before in previous surround speakers. I was on the fence between these and the RP-250S. I am glad I got the RP-240S. These surrounds have more than enough power for my room. If you buy these surrounds you will not be disappointed.

Pros: Great Sound Great Clearity Wide soundstage

Cons: Large Heavy Only single color(black)

Excellent addition to my 4K Ultra System! Couldn't be happier.

Pros: Perfect size, crisp, clean, powerful, a multidirectional surround sound reflective speaker, and easily hung in my case... Exactly what I was looking for for my new 4K Ultra System. . Crutchfield sent them quickly, and as usual... with no hassles.

Cons: I can think of nothing bad to say about these speakers...

Perfect surround speaker.

Nick from KY on 3/10/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As usual with Crutchfield, the speaker I ordered arrived quickly and damage free. The speaker all around sounds great, helps fill my large entertainment room with a lot of crisp, full sound. Sounds great, easy to wire up, and is built incredibly well. Esthetically, it's a beautiful piece of equipment. If you are considering the premiere line over the generic reference line, it's well worth the price.

Pros: Everything.

Cons: Having to decide whether to keep the screen on the face or not.

Delocalized sound

Gary from Utah on 12/30/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are great surround sound speakers. They were packaged very well. The sound from them sounds very delocalized. I use them as sides on a 7.1 channel system. They truly make noises sound like they are coming from the sides as opposed to from some point source. For movies they are amazing. I'm not a high end speaker expert so I can't speak to their sound reproduction qualities, but they sound great to me even for music when listening in multi channel stereo. They are smaller than the RP-250S, but they work just fine at the volumes we use thanks to the high sensitivity of Klipsch speakers. Bigger is better, so if you have the room and budget I'd consider the 250S anyways. However, the 240S seems like it would be very easy to wall mount as it is smaller and lighter, something I'm not so sure of for the 250S. In all I'm very happy with the purchase and I'd recommend them as a small surround speaker.

Features

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST): The Klipsch RP-240S delivers precise sonic detail through the careful positioning of two Tractrix Horn loaded titanium tweeters and two 4" woofers. By aligning the two horns at 90° with respect to each other, along with the two woofers, the RP-240S smoothly covers a 180° horizontal arc, allowing maximum placement flexibility. This unique Wide Dispersion Surround Technology delivers a new dimension of reality and convenience, and produces a smooth, seamless broad distribution of sound, which is the perfect vehicle for every surround format.

90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.

LTS Tweeters: Behind each Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Cerametallic Woofers: The dual 4" woofers of the RP-240S surround loudspeaker feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 4" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-240S surround speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies (1700Hz) offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Sealed MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-240S employs an acoustic suspension enclosure for tight accurate bass. The sealed enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a premium wood-grain polymer veneer and a polymer front baffle. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The surround loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-240S is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-240S offers flexibility when mounting the speaker.

  • Rubber Feet: The surround speaker comes supplied with four self-adhesive rubber feet so you can sit the speakers on a stand or shelf securely. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of the speaker.
  • Wall Mounting: The Klipsch surround speaker features a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied). There is also a 3/8" threaded insert on the back of the speaker for use with 3rd-party wall-mount brackets (sold separately).

Placement: The Klipsch Wide Dispersion Surround Technology surround speakers in a typical 5.1-channel system can be mounted to side or rear walls. It is recommended that the RSP-240S be mounted above the ear height of seated listeners (between 5'-7' above the floor).

It is hard for me to answer regarding "dead zone" because your listening hear could be different from mine - but I have loved my Klipsch speakers from the day that I opened up the box. I don't hear any dead spots or the area that I have them in - the sound has been exceptional. I have one of the speakers sitting on a shelf next to stairs leading up to my main level in the house - it is not mounted in a corner and the sound for me has been great. That has been my experience with the Klipsch speakers. [ Scot  Jan 05, 2017 ]
You will need at least 2 rears for the surround effect. 5.1 is center, 2 fronts, 2 rears, and subwoofer. 7.1 is center, 2 fronts, 2 rears, 2 surround, and subwoofer. Either configuration will give you the surround effect. [ Matthew  Oct 11, 2016 ]
HI tim, yes i think 5 speaks are perfect for a surround sound, i have 5 anda subwoofer with exilent bass, its my get away system from my world outside,it makes u think your in a private concert. [ KENNITH  Oct 06, 2016 ]
If you want a true surround sound you need the whole enchilada - what makes surround sound work is when you hear different sounds from different areas in the room. You hear the speeding car coming from the back speaker and someone talking from the one in front of you. Truly wonderful experience. the bass speakers makes it - I love when it rumbles the seat your sitting in, feels like you are there. The Klipsch speakers are the best - love mine!. [ Scot  Oct 06, 2016 ]
The volume is comparable to the output potential of any of the Klipsch Reference Premiere speakers. Even when pairing with the floor standing 250fs, if you turn up the 240s' output on the receiver the speaker can handle it. [ Nicholas  May 03, 2016 ]
Loud when needed, quiet when appropriate [ Daniel  May 03, 2016 ]
Great volume for these speakers, made the rear of my room come alive [ Jason  May 03, 2016 ]
I followed the recommendations in Klipsch's product literature - mine are mounted alongside the seating area, just below the ceiling. I've really enjoyed these! [ William  May 01, 2018 ]
ideally just behind you on a 45 i have mine above me only place that worked and they fill the room fine. [ timothy  May 01, 2018 ]
Aloha, I mounted them behind the main listening area. [ Thomas  May 01, 2018 ]
