Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-250C
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Couldn't be happier with the performance. Sound is crisp and rich. Fantastic center channel
Pros: Sound, cost
Klipsch Reference speakers have earned rave reviews from Crutchfield customers for years. And that's why we're so excited for our customers to hear the RP-250C. This center channel speaker from Klipsch's latest Reference Premiere Series is sure to please home theater enthusiasts with its winning combination of solid construction and powerful performance. The RP-250C features dual 5-1/4" woofers plus Klipsch's signature 1" horn tweeter for crisp, natural-sounding dialogue and robust special effects that'll bring your movies and TV shows to life.
Never one to rest on its laurels, Klipsch has been busy refining and improving its designs to create loudspeakers that blow the doors off of its loyal followers' expectations. The new Reference Premiere Series builds on the acoustics and technologies of Klipsch's classic Reference Series, with important enhancements that provide an even more intense listening experience.
With its Hybrid Tractrix horn and Cerametallic woofers, the RP-250C center channel speaker effortlessly delivers clear, powerful Klipsch sound.
Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.
Klipsch's newly designed Hybrid Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. Compared to previous Klipsch models, this horn design delivers a wider sweet spot with more precise placement of instruments and vocals. Even the horn material itself has been upgraded to molded silicone rubber that helps decrease resonance for smoother, warmer highs.
The RP-250C's Tractrix horn shaped port cuts down on air turbulence, reducing noise and distortion.
Look around the back, and you'll see that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion.
The RP-250C's Cerametallic™ woofers dish out smooth midrange and articulate, well-defined bass. Klipsch makes its cones out of specially treated aluminum that's strong yet lightweight to dampen and prevent distortion. With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave these woofers newly developed titanium voice coil formers that allow more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response.

Couldn't be happier with the performance. Sound is crisp and rich. Fantastic center channel
Pros: Sound, cost
Full rich sound from this center channel speaker. Perfect addition to any level surround setup.
Pros: Fits easily within entertainment center
Not sure if I've calibrated my Denon controller accurately but the center channel adds a bit of clarity and dynamics in comparison to television audio. My center channel already compliments my Klipsch Premier floor standing speakers.
Pros: Nice build quality!
Cons: None, absolutely none!
Replaced my old Boston Acoustics towers and haven't looked back. Crisp clear sound that seems to just be everywhere, not pushed out to you. Coupled with the subwoofer, center speaker and surround speakers with a Yamaha V383 receiver and I am in sound heaven.
Pros: Easy to set up.
Awesome Center Channel speaker! I couldn't believe how much sound I was losing out of my older Center Channel speaker. Loved it so much it made my old floor standing speakers sound like they were non-existent. Needless to say I ended up upgrading to the rp260f floor standing speakers. No need to go to the theater anymore. Very happy!!!
Pros: Awesome clarity!!!
Cons: None yet
Just what I needed! This center channel provides excellent clarity and sound output.
Pros: Clarity, sound output, design
Cons: none from my perspective
Voices are crystal clear. This is a huge improvement over my prior sony speakers.
This complements my ausum surround sound. Looks great.
Purchased this to pair with rp-160m bookshelf speakers and r112sw sub. This center replaces an old Klipsch synergy center channel and there is no comparison between the two. The rp-250c produces clear and powerful sound from highs all the way down to mid-lows. Dialogue is much clearer and more detailed than what I was used to experiencing. Buy this speaker and sit back and enjoy a level of detail you didn't think possible. Oh and it just looks good sitting on the shelf!
Replaced a Definitive Technology center channel. The Klipsch makes it easy for the amp as I don't turn it up as much for the same volume, as expected. Smooth, detailed, and makes action movies more enjoyable. Very happy I went back to Klipsch.
Pros: Detailed Smooth Powerful
I upgraded from a Polk cs10. I will have to say that the clarity is better then the Polk. The build quality is very good and seems to be well made. I researched alot of different speakers before I landed on this one the size and quality for the price fits. I read a lot of reviews and the Klipsch being bright. The new rp line to me is not very natural sounding to me. I did take away one star for the woofer size, it has a 5.25 woofer but the actual size of the surface area of the woofer out side of the rubber ring is only 4.75 inches not they measure the outside of mounting ring is 5.25 inches. I believe at this price point the 6.25 woofer would have been better. Even the rp-450c woofer size is only 5.25 I looked at this one to but has to large of a foot print. Over all I am happy with the sound quality. The magnetic cover is cool and looks good with or without the screen, It did sound better after a few days of breaking in.
Pros: Good sound quality and clarity at this price.
Cons: Woofer could have been a little larger.
This center speaker sounds great. I provides great clear sound, and I am very happy with its output.
the speaker works great for dialog, much clearer than the one it replaced and I can play it at a lower volume setting as well.Im using Bose 601's as my main speaker and smaller Bose for both my side and rear surrounds. It marries well with my setup especially with the main speakers, when I adjusted the speaker levels wit the receiver set up controls it delivers a seamless soundstage across the center and two mains.
Originally had a JVC satellite 5.1 speaker system that was great wanted to step it up so I bought two Klipsch rp280-af tower speakers removed all the satellites except the center channel due to money constraints pulled back into use a set of older (but still great) JVC tower speakers for my rears and thought the system was much better. Got some money and bought a Klipsch rp-250c center speaker had some trouble setting it up correctly due to space (my fault not Klipsch or Crutchfield's ) however now that it is just right I can not believe how much more clarity I am getting from the center speaker. I am using a Marantz receiver and the Dolby Atmos is incredible. Definitely worth the purchase soon I will remove the JVC towers and convert to all Klipsch probably rp-280 towers to match others
Pros: awesome product great sound and clarity matches with my rp-280afs seamlessly
Cons: need room for placement had to build a stand to place tv on and placed speaker under the stand worth the trouble though
As expected with Klipsch ,excellent speaker clear, clean sound.
Pros: perfect center channel speaker
Matched with RB-61 II speakers. Dialouge is awesome.
Great product, easy setup and great center channel sound in a smaller box size which fits well with our entertainment center.
Easy to hear great dialogue and detail with this center channel. Hearing details in movies that I don't remember hearing before, well worth it.
Pros: Clarity, dynamic range
Completed my klipsch speaker system. Running a big amp this system rocks
Pros: Excellent look and sound
Cons: Should have bought it sooner
Awesome upgrade over Sony center channel! Wish I would have upgraded sooner. Movies never sounded so great!
Pros: Great sound Very clear
Excellent center channel speaker. Works well with movies (clear dialogue) and music. Highly recommend. Thank you Chance for your help!
Pros: Great sound, clear dialogue.
This is an exceptionally fine center channel speaker and good value. After much debate about which brand and size, I chose the Klipsch RP-250C. I couldn't be more pleased. It has a refined sound, great clarity, and with the proper speaker calibration (Audyssey MultiXT 32) makes dialog great with TV programs, movies, or BluRay/DVD discs. There is no excessive "brightness" or harshness with this speaker, which is sometimes a criticism of Klipsch speakers. This replaced an older center channel speaker from another manufacturer; the difference is amazing. I recommend this speaker with enthusiasm.
Pros: Great sound Exceptionally clear dialog regardless of program source Nice cabinet and finish
I researched this purchase very thoroughly and I am very happy with this center speaker. It has easily lived up to all the positive comments I read at several different sites. As claimed, it really majors in bringing the dialogue front and center. I use my HT for music as much as for TV/movies and it really adds a great deal to the overall experience. You really can't go wrong with this purchase, especially if you own Klipsch front speakers. They match very nicely.
Pros: Very clear, well-defined sound
Wooow great sound clarity
Despite being twice the size of the center speaker it was replacing, I was concerned that it may not be up to the task. I had just updated my fronts with Klipsch RP-280FAs. However, I also had limited space. I am extremely satisfied with it's performance. Even at the loudest listening levels, center channel playback was sharp and clear. Voice separation was excellent. The only issue I had was with my Yamaha A/V receiver's YPAO auto-setup which recognized it as a large speaker. While the RP-250C performs well, I wouldn't recommend this setting. I have manually set it to small and let the lows go the sub. I have not noted any distortion whatsoever with the manual crossover set to 60 khz, but with that being the specified lower end, have since set the crossover to 80 khz. Despite this change the center still sounds great and perhaps is not working my receiver so hard.
Pros: (Relatively) small true hi-fi center channel Excellent sound
Cons: Default a/v setup set it to large speaker Manually corrected size and crossover.
I just completed scratching my 7-year itch to audition and decide on some new speakers for my 7.2 HT setup. My old speakers were Klipsch and, while I love the brand, I decided to go with a set of DefTech BP8060-ST for my floor stand speakers due to the superior subwoofer-powered bass delivery. But when it came to the center channel, I just could not part with this speaker. Whereas I found the RP280-Fs to be too bright as floor standers (for my setup, JMO), this same feature was actually what I preferred with the center channel and found with the RP-250C. Compared to CS-8040HD center channel speaker i had for comparison, the RP-250C projects a much clearer and concise dialogue with movies without having to overly raise the level. In fact, I have it set to -9db on my AVR and the sound is still very clear and present, even in bass-heavy action scenes. And yes, the RP-250C gets along very well with my DefTech speakers. I know much is said about model/timbre matching, but in this case, I just felt this was the best combination for me. And let me add a special note to some reviewers who have mentioned impaired hearing as an issue: definitely give this speaker a try. Given the sensitivity of 96db, you will have plenty of head room to raise the level (volume) setting to your liking on just about any AVR. And thanks to Crutchfield for their great customer service. They promptly refunded me the difference when the price dropped on this recently. Very happy.
Pros: Ideal size and foot print, sensitivity of 96db a big plus, very attractive item.
Cons: None. It's perfect for what I was looking for.
I bought the Klipsch center channel speaker to go with my other 4 Klipsch speakers. The difference in sound was immediate and outstanding. The surround sound is fantastic. For the money this center channel speaker is a great buy. The Crutchfield rep that I talked with knew her stuff and this was the right pick. No mor muffled voices or distorted voices when watching movies. The sound is crisp and clear. I am very satisfied
Pros: Great crisp sound - Voices are crystal clear - Very easy to install only 2 wires.- Compared to other speakers this is a great buy.
I bought the RP-250C along with a pair of RP-280Fs and immediately noticed improved clarity with voices in movies and blu ray audio disks. It's actually smaller than my Infinity center channel it replaces but projects really well.
Pros: Overall clarity. Complements main and surround speakers perfectly.
Outstanding sound clarity, you can almost hear a pin drop, Highs and lows and clarity of speech is amazing. Last but not least the service from Klipsch was outstanding. Staff was very polite friendly and efficient.
Pros: Awesome product!
I wasn't sure how much this center channel speaker would add to the two tower speakers, but it is a great complement and really rounds out the sound. It's built well and looks great. Very good value.
Pros: Great addition to overall sound.
I have other Klipsch speakers and i wanted to ad a center channel speaker. This thing rocks ,voices are so clear worth the money . Crutchfield got it to me with in 12 hours great job.
Pros: great center speaker
Excellent produce, easy to install, clean sound. Tremendous upgrade from older center speaker of another brand. Works well with current receiver.
Pros: Crisp sound, easy install
I am upgrading from older kliptch speakers. Starting with the Rp280F. I have to say I was a bit skeptical since my older speakers are the 4.2 and they are pretty nice sounding speakers. There was a noticeable difference in the overall sound spectrum. So at that point I knew the center speaker was needed to finish the front speaker set up. Bottom line these speakers have improved my sound and now with the 4.2's in the back the set up is awesome. Front speaker line up is crystal clear with nice tight bass punch. In direct mode with music the sound is incredible at most levels.
Nice clean sound.
I needed a smaller center channel speaker because of space constraints. This baby fit the bill! Excellent room filling sound is what this center channel brings. It is a nice addition to my Klipch towers, surrounds and sub.
Pros: Great sound
I don't have a lot of space for the center speaker. This is perfect and sounds awesome!
Upgraded from the Klipsch SSB series to the Reference Series and I'm incredibly impressed by the difference in sound. In my den I can't install rear speakers (the old setup with the rears that I bought and never used are now in my basement). All I have is these center and front speakers and it's still great to watch a movie.
Pros: Great sound, small space.
A very nice match with the RP160M's. Sound field is seamless.
Pros: Looks great, high quality, size is not too big
I wanted to replace the Klipsch KV 2 Center that I purchased in the early '90's....it still sounds great...but I'm slowly upgrading all of my Klipsch speakers that I bought back then (5). This one is perfect, the right size for a 46" flat screen 7.1 set-up. My room is 22'x12" and it fills the room with throaty bass and crisp, clear voices. The main reason I bought this item was for movies, but my YAMAHA Natural Sound Amp also uses it when you switch on the 7 speakers to listen to music...my Classic Rock and Chicago Blues has never sounded better. Klipsch never seems to disappoint, and Crutchfield got it to me in one day ! Great price and service, thanks, Crutchfield !
Pros: Great sound ~ Great size ~ Great Crutchfield service, how can you beat that combination
I purchased this speaker with 2 RP-250F floor speakers. This speaker has added a new dimension to watching movies and TV. It makes everything sound more dynamic and crystal clear. You don't realize what a center speaker will do until you hear it action. I've never had a center speaker before, so it's hard for me to compare it to something else. It sounds amazing. And, paired with the matching floor speakers, the sound blends seamlessly through all 3 speakers.
Pros: Great sound
All I can say is WOW. This speaker is amazing. I have to admit I was a little skeptical of how much improvement I would hear over the old speaker which was an older Klipsch. Even my wife has noticed a difference in the clarity of the voices and even the other sounds from the movie. If you are trying to decide whether or not it is worth the $, it is, go ahead and pull the trigger you won't be disappointed.
Pros: Incredible clarity, pretty good bass response for 5" offers
5 Stars, Great Product, Sound is amazing
Pros: Easy to install
After owning an RC .5 Center Channel speaker for 10 years, it was time to step up my game. Going from two 4" woofers to 5.25" along with the extended rear firing bass port has made a huge difference in my home theater. The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is because I really wanted the RP-450C, but did not have the available monies.
Pros: Excellent sound reproduction, really brings movies and football to life.

90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.
LTS Tweeters: Behind each Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.
Cerametallic Woofers: The dual 5.25" woofers of the RP-250C center-channel loudspeaker feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 5.25" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.
Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-250C center-channel speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies (1800Hz) offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.
Bass Reflex MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-250C employs a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing Tractrix port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. Utilizing Tractrix geometry, the all new Reference Premiere bass port allows for the most efficient, fastest air transfer from the cabinet for a clean, powerful low frequency response. The ported enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a premium wood-grain polymer veneer and a polymer front baffle. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.
Magnetic Grille: The center-channel loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.
Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-250C is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.
Placement: The RP-250C should be centered directly above or below your video screen. If necessary, you can place the speaker on an optional floor stand in front of and below the screen that elevates it to the correct height. Ideally, however, the speaker's front baffle should be flush with the front of the screen.

Price and Quality. Can't beat Klipsch and Yamaha as they are leaders in the industry. [ MICHAEL Apr 29, 2018 ]
Mine sits about 4 inches from a wall. Sound seems to be OK. Not sure how the sound would be affected if the speaker was closer to a wall. I guess is that all you can do is try it out to see if you like what you hear. Good luck. [ RICHARD C Nov 30, 2017 ]
You should be ok I have two flat against the wall they still sound great My only worry would be having the speaker covered on all sides the air flow could be greatly reduced causing the speakers to fail quicker [ Richard Nov 30, 2017 ]
Yes, it would be an improvement and should be compatible with your existing system. The sound clarity from this center channel speaker is incredible! We feel totally immersed in what we're watching because we can hear what the subjects are saying, no more: 'what did he say' questions in the middle of the movie. When I get some time, I'm going to re-watch some of the movies I have on DVD to see what I missed. Highly recommended. [ Felix Nov 29, 2016 ]
Hi, i replaced a quintet center with the rp250c. Dialogue is excellent but a bit bright, you may need to lower the treble. Also keep in mind i am running mine with the 280s and it sounds great, but it may overpower your quintets if those are your other speakers. The 250 also has very good bass response for a center, the port design works extremely well. Hope this helps. Good luck with your purchase.... [ Christopher Nov 23, 2016 ]
The only thing I can tell you is that I am satisfied with the 250c. I have an onkyo receiver and the center channel replaced a speaker co. smaller center channel. [ RICHARD C Nov 22, 2016 ]
I have the RP-250C as my center speaker and get very realistic sound, especially dialogue. It may have something to do with your receiver, but I love to center speaker and it's dramatic look. [ John Nov 22, 2016 ]
Do not know the power handling capacity of your current system. It they r similar to the Klipsch sub-woofer then you should have no problem with integrating the sub into your system. I bought it and it works wonderfully. [ Jiten Nov 22, 2016 ]
cgm11, the rp250c is probably going to be your best bet if you're trying to improve the center channel of your Klipsch system. You will likely notice that its sound quality is different and much better than the rest of the Quintet speakers, but keeping in the Klipsch family will yield a much closer match than going with a different brand. Over time, consider upgrading the R and L mains of your system to Klipsch Reference-series bookshelf or standing speakers and your Qunitet system could augment nicely as surrounds. You probably don't want to go any higher in quality than the Reference-series for now though, I think the disparity of sound quality might become distracting. But in my opinion, the pr250c is the way to go. I pair mine with my 15-year old Klipsch Reference-series bookshelves and a Yamaha RXV590 receiver and the sound is smooth and rich. Good luck! [ Daniel Nov 22, 2016 ]

I love mind it is powered by marzant 6010 [ Richard Nov 22, 2016 ]
I had some hesitation about upgrading my center channel, but I can say with no hesitation that the upgrade was well worth it. I can't speak about the klipsch quintet but I can tell you that the rp250c is awesome. I had no idea what I was missing with my older center channel. I hope this helps. [ Dan Nov 21, 2016 ]
