Useful earphones

MikeF from Arlington, VA on 5/13/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These earphones were purchased mainly to be able to easily use controls for my iPod while running, biking, walking, etc. They worked perfectly in that regard. Very handy and easy to operate. Fortunately my iPod model is a relatively recent one and it responded to the earphone controls. Apparently it will not work on some models, probably the older ones. The sound quality is actually no better (even perhaps a bit less) than the Shure earphones I had been using. However, the ease of volume and program selection from the slim control panel was worth the switch.

Pros: The controls

Cons: Hard to read Left/Right speaker indicator markings. Might be too snug around someone with a large neck!

Great ear buds

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love Apple products. But they're headphones are JUNK. I finally had the last straw when my left earbud stopped working, and decided to do some research and get a nice pair. It came done to these and the A-Jays Four, cand I feel I made the right decision.

Pros: CNET's #1 rated in-ear earphones. This is for a good reason: they sound great, feel great, and look pretty nice.

Cons: The build quality is a bit questionable. Ive only had them a few weeks, I hope they last the test of time. The rubber or the earpieces feels strong, but flimsier than a traditional headset. The wires are very very thin, I hope they don't fray.

It is very hard to know from a picture, if a pair of earbuds will be comfortable. I took a long time looking at the many varieties of earbud earphones. I know that Klipsch has a very good reputation and they looked comfortable. I am so pleased with my purchase. They are so comfortable that you forget that they are in you ears. Sound is great

Pros: Comfortable great sound

Cons: better case

great sound

GlennG from Ocala FL on 2/26/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These earbuds sound great. They are crisp and deep. I especially like the mic position being centered instead of higher on one side like other earbuds with microphones. Used them for a very long biz trip recently and really enjoyed the sound quality and noise isolation. They seal in the ear canal perfectly.

Pros: The sound. They rock! Much better than the Bose I have for the same money.

Cons: Ear fatigue. But to be fair, I have to try the other sizes to see if I have the wrong fit.

Great sounding headphones as long as they are seated properly in the ear canal. Crisp and clean sounding without muddying from excessive bass.

Pros: Crisp and clean sounding without muddying from excessive bass.

Cons: Would have given a 5 if has slightly more bass. Need to use the exact fit for your ear canal from the included 3 sizes.

Poor fit, no bass.

wolverine48104 from San Francisco, CA on 2/2/2012

I bought these after reading multiple glowing reviews on a number of sites. I have to say that I was immediately very disappointed and will be returning them immediately. The main issue comes from a lack of adequate fitting options - all of the ones provided were too small for my ears and for the low expense of materials, more options should be offered. Without these, the bass is non-existent, the buds fall out of my ears, and the sound is tiny and far-away sounding. Additionally they come with some of the cheapest cables I have ever felt. I do have to say if I hold them in my ears it sounds a bit better but this is obviously not possible. Back to the drawing board Klipsch...

Pros: Sound halfway decent if hold in ears to increase seal.

Cons: Almost everything.

I LOVE these!

DaniW from Lake Lure, NC on 2/1/2012

Hard to fit? Tiny ears? Still want great sound? These are the buds for you! My husband has at least 20 sets of buds, from $20.00 to $400.00. They all come with an assortment of tips. NONE of them fit my ears. If I could get them in at all and not move too much so they didn't fall out, they started hurting after just 20 minutes or so. The buds that came with my ipod touch were horrific (with all of apple's attention to detail you would think they would pay a little more attention to the delivery method of the music not just the style of the housing) Apparently I have small ear canals and they are at a slightly different angle, and the smallest set of tips these come with fit me perfectly. I can even work out in them. But hold on, fit isn't everything... I also wanted great sound! I have very eclectic taste in music, Regina Carter playing Paganini's Cannon to Pink, Opera and classical to Pop. I confess I also wanted style. These LOOK GREAT! I also love having the speaker and controls so easily available. The Klipsch Image S4i meet my needs perfectly. My husband likes them better than any of his as well, even his Shures. I was also Very impressed with the staff at Cruthchfield, I emailed a question late Saturday night and got a very informative, cordial answer Sunday morning. I ordered and got them a couple days later. What more could you ask for? I can't think of a thing.

Pros: Great sound, clear and crisp without too much base, fit even tiny ears, stylish, speaker and controls perfectly placed. Seem well made.

Cons: None as far as I am concerned.

good, not great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

the highs and mids are good. but no bass, like almost none. this makes music sound tinny but talking sound decent. I used the other shaped ear buds that come with but still difficult to get the buds to stay in my ears. the remote on the cord that hangs about sternum level is very handy.

Pros: highs, mids, remote, solid construction

Cons: no bass, fall out of ears

Try again

I was really excited to get these headphones, the video on the website got me thinking these maybe one of the top set of headphones in my collection. I was very disappointed, I would place them on down with my $4.99 headphones. The sound was not a crisp as I would like, bass was okay not great, vocals were nice but not for the price I paid.

Pros: Nice design of speaker housing

Cons: Comfort, button layout, cords very thin

better sound, lousy ergonomics

AK from Arcata,CA on 10/4/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While the sound quality is a significant upgrade from the stock iPhone earbuds, the placement of the microphone and controls is way off. It puts them far away from my voice, and I have to dig it out of my shirt to take a call. The earbuds are comfortable, but I wear this while exercising, and the earbuds fall out regularly. I expected more for this price and I'm disappointed. The bass sounds are inadequate, but still better than stock.

Love them

I have neverspent this much for earphones. After talking to the great staff. I decided on these particular pair. All I can say is that I love them. The first pair that actually fit inside my ears. And the sound is best I have heard. Thanks Crutchfield

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound. Was able to pick up mids and highs as well as lows. Had some trouble with fit. I also like the remote control capability with my I Pod. WIsh others had this capability. With vigorous exercise(treadmill at 7 MPH), earphones started to loosen and sound degraded. Tried all sizes of ear cups. Placed earphones upside down and that seemed to help fit, however, cord was a bit tight and ears became tired after one hour. One other item that may be of concern is the jack. It is not angled and could be an early failure point with a lot of "pocket" wear. There was not much reinforcement cladding where the wire goes into the jack. For non-exercise listening, I would buy these again.

Good & Bad

Graphix1 from NYC on 1/13/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good sound and features...poor build quality and mic recognition in background noise situations. Overall audio sound is vibrant and clear. Bass is good. The push to talk/control button works great. However, for this price I would expect higher quality material/construction. Wires are quite thin and love to tangle. Through use, source connector separated from wire and neck controller button would not release. Crutchfield was great and sent a replacement, however quality appears to not have changed. In addition ear flanges don't quite fit my ears causing me to constantly adjust and reposition buds. Klipsch does offer a larger flange, but these must be purchased separately. If these had been cheaper I would give five stars but at the current rate these seem overpriced.

Very Pleased Overall

Eric from NYC on 11/17/2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, this was my first purchase from Crutchfield and I was quite impressed. The headphones were shipped the same day and the packaging was impressive. Crutchfiled gets five stars. Now to the headphones. I use these headphones primarily while at the gym and they are great. The remote feature is very convenient allowing you to increase and/or decrease volume, skip to the next song and back or answer calls without having to lay my hands on my iphone, something I try to avoid while bouncing around at the gym The sound quality is very good and the phones deliver very impressive bass. I listen to all genres of music and the Klipsh S4i handles it all. My only compaint is that the buds do not always stay in my ears. Perhaps if Klipsh would offer an even larger rubber ear piece, the problem would be solved. This is why I only rated this product 4 stars. These headphones are very mcuh worth the money and I highly recommend them.

Great sound, could be built a bit better

soundman414 from BC, MI on 8/24/2010

I bought these about 3 months ago and I have been very pleased with the quality of sound these headphones produce. The fact that I can control my new iPhone with headphones that sound almost as good as my Sony studio headphones makes this a great buy. Although there are some downsides to these headphones that you should take into account before buying. If you are someone that can get a bit rough with your pair, then these are probably not for you. Being constructed with lines that have a thin sheath of plastic does not reflect the quality of sound or the price you pay for them. although If you are careful with these, they will last for a long time. The ear gels also are a bit finicky, especially if you are someone that is using these on a hot day or have excess ear wax in that it is hard to find and keep that sweet spot in your ear. Beyond those two bits, I am delighted with my purchase and would definitely recommend these.

best bang for the buck

Big-A-Boyd from Charlottesville, VA on 5/28/2010

I bought these from the Retail store. Please in mind we are reviewing earbuds not full over the ear headphones. these headphones are extremly comfortable to wear , i wear these buds probaly anywhere from 5-9 hours any given day at work and it literaly feel like notings there. the ear buds do a great job of blocking noise. the sound quality for these is excelent, i mostly use them for listening to alternative and indie music, however for this review i listened to country, rap, rock, classical, and my usual. the buds preformed great. the highs were clear and crisp the mids were smooth and spot on the bas was perfectly matched with the highs and lows, now i also tested a pair of highend earbuds and i can say they were identical to the klipsch however the bass was a little heavier, but to justify the extra money one would have a hard time. the mic woks great, however i would recomend using the included clip to clip it to your shirt as it sounds much much better and clear if you clip it closer to your mouth, i keep mine cliped in the v of my polo shirt, works perfectly. given this product is designed to be used specificaly witht the iphone and given your choices these beat out all competition under 250 dollars, i can wear these all day with no fatuige and they deliever ccrystal clear sound and preformance, well worth the price tag. i am a firm believer in "you pay for what you get" however with the klipsch s4i i believe you get just a little bit more.

Buy it!! You won't regret.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these earbuds a couple of weeks ago, in preparation for vacation travel. I used them instead of carrying my Bose Quiet Comfort - noise canceling headset, and was amazed that it worked that well in flight. The sound was crisped with a lot of clarity, and the surrounding noise from the plane engines and passengers was kept at a minimum. The fit in the ear canal was perfect and steady. I just got finished using them during jogging and did not have to tamper with it after it was inserted before the jog. Very unlike the Bose Triport earbuds which I owned previously to purchasing these. The Bose always kept falling off, even with the harness that they developed in an attempt to resolve that problem. The sound was comparable to the Bose Triport, if not better. The price range is about the same. You can check online reviews on these for your own satisfaction as I did. I am very happy with the purchase. My only concern is with the thinnest of the wires. Not sure how they will handle normal wear and tear, but at least you a two year warranty from the manufacturer.

Good fit, great sound

Written by Ralph Graves, Staff Writer - Creative, on 12/21/2011 11:44:00 AM
Granted, this is a highly personal statement, but I found the Image S4i's to be some of the most comfortable in-ears I've tried recently. The angled earbuds slipped easily into my ears, and stayed in place. Since I would use these for on-the-go listening, I checked out mostly rock and electronica tracks (my preferred exercise music). The S4i's produced pretty convincing bass, and delivered plenty of detail. The sound felt closed-in, but for running or listening in a noisy environment, that's the type of sound field I like.
