A simple concept that works

The ZVOX SoundBase sits right on top of whatever surface holds your TV, and your TV sits right on top of the SoundBase — simple, effective, and easy. Just like many other sound bar systems, the this one connects to your TV using a single cable (optical digital and analog RCA audio cables are included). Great for voice

Mike from Santa Rsa Bch, FL on 2/13/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great for voice and is fair for music. Had a Vizio with sub woofer and the Zvox is as good for music and much better for voice. Had a friend here and said wow, he could hear voice much better and understand what they were saying. Really like it sets flat and TV sets on top of it, I had the Vizio in front of TV, didnt have any other options and it blocked the IF remote sensor from straight on, had to hold remote up high to make it work for the TV.

Pros: Fantastic for voice, like it shuts down by itself after no input. Like it sets flat and TV sets on top of it.

Cons: Could be a little better for music, but not bad.

Don't buy, does opposite of what it claims!

Kurt from Lakeport, CA on 12/31/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have some hearing loss and I like to watch British TV shows via Amazon and Netflix. This system was supposed to be designed to clarify voices using technology similar to hearing aids and to balance sound between advertisements and regular dialog. I would say it does the opposite. When music comes on or an advertisement I grab the remote and press mute when using this sound bar. After trying multiple setting on both the sound bar and my Samsung "smart" TV I finally turned the sound bar off and just used the rear speakers the TV came with. Much better! Unfortunately I have had the sound bar for awhile and can't return it.

Pros: None

Cons: Blasts music and advertisements causing me to mute constantly.

Pros: Clears human voices so people who's hearing has deteriorated can better make out voices. Price.

I can tell the difference from the soundbar we had before. My husband doesn't have to turn it up as loud, so in return I don't get the headache from television being turned up so loud. Really does help hearing impaired. He is deaf in one ear and wears a hearing aid in the other. Definitely recommend to anyone who can't hear very well.

Good sound - easy set up

Frank from St Louis, MO on 12/10/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just got the 670 Friday and the sound from my Panasonic plasma is now equal to it's great picture for normal tv and voice. Would not suggest it can replace a decent audio system for music but the improvement in sound for watching tv is impressive. Would add the instructions included and ease of set up (direct tv) should be copied as the new gold standard by the rest of the AV industry - took all of three minutes!!!

Pros: Installation, programming, voice clarity, fine tuning.

Cons: none yet.

Great looking unit and more sound.

Sounds fine and looks great under my LG tv, which as you might expect had very poor, muddled sound before adding the Soundbar. I am still experimenting with settings for surround and voice enhancement so I can't evaluate those very accurately yet. Set up was a snap and packing was good too.

Pros: Easy install, good packing

Cons: Not discovered any cons yet...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like my Zxox 670. Easiest thing in the world to set up....especially synking my cable remote to the unit. You have to love proper directions. The sound is not quite as robust as I had hoped for but it is great for watching tv and the music fills my living room quite well. This is my second purchase from Crutchfield and I can't say enough about the ease of using their website and the follow up during and after the purchase. Well done Crutchfield!!

Pros: Nice sound Easy to install

Cons: Could use some more bass but the overall balance is very pleasant

Pros: Simple to set up and use, very good sound at half the cost of a comparable sound bar.

ZVOX 670, Great Sound from your TV at a Great Price

Steve from Bismarck, ND on 8/14/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound from the ZVOX 670 is great. I have a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma that has a base that sticks out in the front so a soundbar would not work. The small speakers were terrible. The ZVOX 670 is just the right size underneath, it is subtle so the wife is happy that we dont have a room full of speakers and that it blends in. I am happy to finally have great sound out of the TV. It is not a "true" surround sound system so dont expect to hear noise and explosions all around, but it definitely makes movies and shows more enjoyable. Accuvoice works nicely to boost the voices. Likewise, it probably wont compete with a big stereo system for music. However, it does great at what it was designed for, without a sub or extra speakers. The Bluetooth is great, it paired right up with my laptop so all my music is available, and I can also play a CD through my bluray player, connected with toslink cable. No complaints at all, I would purchase it again without a second thought.

Great device for TV audio

Richard from Austin, TX on 3/12/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound box for the money. I own the 570, and was impressed, being the reason I purchased the 670. For the price difference, I believe it to be well worth it. Although, it does require some space for placement, it is a good recommendation for an audio device.

Pros: Great device for TV audio. Reasonably priced and versatile audio hook-ups.

Cons: Has a large footprint for placement.

Great product, easy to hook up, and great sound using Acu-Voice button. Paired up with my cable remote too. Looks very stylish and glad I sprang for this unit. Makes TV sound realistic and consider this one a keeper.

Pros: Easy to set up. Crutchfield tech support great with my questions as well as Zvox guys too. Very good packaging when received. Bluetooth feature great too for music. Accuvoice works great. Great unit for money spent.

Cons: HDMI cable inputs? Not a show stopper but would have been good idea. Nothing else.. All is good...

The ZVOX 670 fits perfectly on my TV stand and under a 50" Samsung TV. The sound quality is excellent and exceeded my expectations. Easy to install and use. The base is a bit much but can be offset by setting it to a -2 or -3.

Shocked

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well I purchased this as an "Open Box" special and I had no problem with this item knowing it had been used by someone else. What I do have. Problem with is, is that the pervious owner of this Speker wrote a note to Crutchfield stating he believed something is wrong with it. Which means Crutchfield sold me something that is already broken. I hav the letter it was in the box clearly stating he thought there was an issue and you guys just passed on the problem to me. Not what I would have expected from what I thought was a quality audio company....

Pros: ZVOX makes a great product

Cons: Crutchfield needs to get their act together!!

Good, clear sound. Dialogue on TV and movies is much easier to understand. Music and background is not up to the standards of a much more expensive system, but it is more than acceptable, and the unit was easy to set up. Very pleased with the purchase, and love the customer service from Crutchfield.

A worthwhile gamble

Mark from North Carolina on 1/22/2017

Bought the SoundBase 670 to replace an older soundbar that was starting to give troubles. I had looked at the ZVOX products on line for the past couple of years, but was never able to actually see or hear one in person. Having have been a customer of Crutchfield for several years and knowing about their easy return policy I decided to give the SoundBase a try. After a few days of trial and error, here is what I found to make this unit sound awesome. For the best sound, the unit needs to sit on a solid wood base (not pressed wood or mfg wood) that is at least the same size, if not a little bigger than the unit. The solid wood base really brings out the sub woofers. Our Directv remote easily detected the unit so that we can adjust the volume up and down. By reading the instructions from ZVOX I was able to set the unit to where it cuts off and on along with the tv. SAVE the ZVOX shipping container. It will come in handy should you ever need to return it for service. It is specially made for the unit and is designed to protect it from shipping damage. Honestly, it wasn't love at first sound. But, after reading the instructions and reading helpful info on the internet, I love this thing.

Pros: No subwoofer setting around Simple hookup Bluetooth connectivity Quality sound

Cons: none so far

Better sound at a lower price

Anonymous from Naples, FL on 1/11/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The 670 was supposed to deliver a clear voice sound for those who have moderate hearing problems. It did not sound any better than my old sound system. In fact, the sound was unclear after the unit was on for 30 minutes. Bought a much less expensive sound bar and it sounds better. Not worth the high cost.

Pros: None

Cons: Sounds worse than old sound system.

Great Sound

Robert from Renton, WA on 1/10/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds great One thing I ran across I have Xfinity X1 and a Samsung TV and despite several "learn" attempts with the X1 remote I could not get the X1 remote to control the Zvox 670 I then tried using the Samsung TV remote during the "learn" process and I can now use the X1 remote to control the Zvox 670 In my case it seems the X1 remote paired with the TV and I needed to pair the Zvox to the TV as well Can't explain this but it worked and I am a happy camper

Pros: Sounds great and glad I purchased it

Cons: The Zvox instructions for pairing remotes if the "learn" procedure doesn't work does not include the latest Xfinity X1 remote

Great sound for the price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I really like the sound from the ZVOX SoundBase 670. For the price, I don't think you can do much better. Setup was very easy and this unit is perfect for my living room/den and fits nicely under my LG 50" TV. You may want something with a little bit more power if you have more than the 400 sqft I have. Only slight negative is the bluetooth fades on our iPad when not in direct line-of-sight (but this is a minor ding on the unit).

Pros: Sound quality Ease of setup

Cons: Bluetooth is so-so

It's a great sound bar. It fits my needs right now. The sound is clear, balanced, decent bass, & has legacy connections that I need. I can hook up my sub 2 ways to connect my receiver &/or sounder. Nice! I plan to use the Bluetooth feature with my headphones. It fits under my tv stand, so I eliminate the awkwardness I had with my old sound bar. The accuvoice has its usefulness when the voices are hard to hear, but I would not use it all the time. Overall, a good buy

The SoundBox 670 is an outstanding product. Previously I ran my audio through a Pioneer 5.1 receiver with Bose speakers and dialogue would be difficult to hear. It was simple to install straight out of the box and the sound was incredible. We watch primarily dvd's and stream Netflix and Hulu. It is by far the best thing I bought in a long time. Unit keeps shutting down every 20 sec. When in use. I called zvox and they had me change setting to cancel the stand-by mode to correct the problem. I no longer have a stand-by mode, but it does not shut down anymore. I would think they would fix this problem at the manufacturer.

Fine quality sound

pc from Scottsdale, AZ on 2/21/2016

Zvox 670 review Very happy with improvement of TV sound in sd-1 setting, and the much increased clarity of speech compared with TV's built in speakers. For bluetooth music listening of "aac" music files from my smartphone with aptX from PowerAmp, excellent transparency of sound is obtained in "accuvoice" setting - especially for fine voice singing, and very good in sd-1 setting. We don't use the other surround sound settings sd-2 & 3, because our priority is sound clarity, and increased surround sound effects come at the cost of reduced clarity. CAUTION: this unit can generate a strong bass sound, much of which radiates downwards before dispersing. The resonance of the surface that the unit rests upon will significantly affect the tightness of the bass you hear. In our case, the TV stand top was a 5/8" board spanning 36", and this resonated badly, muddying the bass sound. I greatly reduced this unwanted resonance and improved the sound quality by gluing a panel of 3/4" plywood to underside of the top of the TV stand, stiffening it. Setup is simple and remote control operations straightforward and useful - most parameters can be adjusted from remote, e.g. bass, treble, surround sound, input source etc. Construction quality seems solid (wood cabinet) and good. The built-in amplifier is low noise, accurate and clean, power more than adequate for most listeners & rooms. In our case, the black 670 is an exact fit over our black tv stand, has no exposed cables and looks g

Pros: Music & speech high quality, clean transparent sound. Ease of use. Bluetooth gives hifi system functionality.

Cons: Not best choice for movie surround sound

Good Product

Paul E. from Albuquerque, NM on 2/21/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product produces far better sound than my 55 inch Samsung TV. The setup is fairly intuitive. I did wander over to DirecTV's web site to see their instruction on programming their remote. Everything works well together. My only issue is the Bluetooth. It wouldn't stay connected to my iPhone 6 at 15 feet line-of-sight (no obstructions). Compared to my latest Bluetooth earpiece that will stay connected at 40 feet, I was aghast. Fortunately, I did not buy this for the Bluetooth.

Pros: Great sound and ease of setup and use.

Cons: Crummy Bluetooth.

Firecracker from boise, ID on 1/27/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We originally bought the Zvox 570 to replace an older SpeakerCraft Soundbase. While we liked the 570 and it did provide better dialogue enhancement than the SpeakerCraft, we decided to exchange it for the larger, more powerful 670. The 670 has about 80% more power, larger tweeters and more woofers, and will support a larger TV in the future when we decide to change. The result is noticeably better and the additional cost was minimal.

Pros: - Simplicity of installation - Good, simple remote to engage dialogue enhancement, output leveling and adjusting both treble and base. - Surround sound simulation is decent and adequate for our needs - Bass is very good and again, really sufficient for our needs - Dialogue enhancement was our primary need in looking for a replacement, and the Z-670 does a really great job. When you can't hear the voices with music or something else in the background, a simple push of one button fix

Cons: So far, I haven't found any cons.

Disappointed

Adrian from Lake Charles, LA on 1/24/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The interaction with Crutchfield was excellent. Very helpful and they did everything they said they would do. The ZVOX unit arrived on time and was very easy to connect to my TV. I had read many reviews about the voice clarity of the dialogue in TV shows and movies, and I needed that due to minor hearing problems. I had been using the closed caption to watch TV with my inexpensive Yamaha sound bar, but that was very distracting to others trying to watch TV with me. I was excited to finally be able to purchase the ZVOX after 3 years of researching and reading reviews. I was a little apprehensive about buying a device of this type without being able to experience it in person first, but it is not a brand that is sold in most retail outlets. It has very good sound as far as TV music and sound effects are concerned. The dialogue is no easier for me to understand than it was with my inexpensive sound bar. I have adjusted the bass and treble with no benefit. I can not determine any difference between the Accuvoice setting and any of the surround sound settings. I am so disappointed at having spent this money and still have to only watch TV and not hear it. I wish I could give one of those glowing reviews about how this has made my TV viewing so much better, but it has not.

Pros: Top quality Ease of connection

Cons: My expectations were apparently more than I realized

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have it connected to a Samsung 65" UHDTV. EZ hookup of power cable and audio cable to TV. In use less than one month so final opinion jury still out. So far so good. My settings preferences are for dialogue clarity and the reason for the purchase. With the bass set at zero (it can still be heard) and the treble set at maximum the dialogue is good for movies with the ACCU on. Good, not exceptional. BTW my hearing is excellent. Listening to music ( with different sound settings) is very good maybe even excellent. ZVOX support is very good. For the price tag I feel you get a pretty decent value and would recommend it. My one caveat is that I have it for only two weeks. Perhaps Crutchfield will ask for a review in six months or so for a better evaluation.

Pros: East set up, attractive unit, good manufacturers support, seemingly worth its price in performance.

Cons: After two weeks, none.

Environment - Samsung LED/LCD TV, DirecTV receiver, and Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player. Requirement - Improve sound clarity in a large room and permit listening to DirecTV audio channels without having the TV powered-up Connections - The supplied optical cable from the TV to the ZVOX unit. I also purchased a coaxial digital cable to connect the DirecTV receiver to the ZVOX unit. The coaxial digital cable is essentially RG/6 with one RCA connector on each end. Configuration changes - None for DirecTV receiver or TV. Operation - I use the ZVOX remote to power it up/down and adjust volume and tone, and the DirecTV remote to power up/down the DirecTV receiver and TV. The TV volume is set to zero. Audio quality: The audio is a great improvement over the rear/down firing TV speakers. It is much better for both music and voice. Audio quality is the same whether selecting the digital coax input from the receiver vs the optical input from the TV.

Pros: It will take longer to unpack and position the ZVOX unit than to get it into operation. Power and optical cable connections are all that are needed. The ZVOX unit is unobtrusive to the point of almost being invisible.

Cons: I was not able to perform the DirecTV remote configuration steps needed to have it control power and volume for the entire system (receiver, TV, and ZVOX). After thinking about it, I decided I did not want or need to do that at all. But it was frustrating during what was otherwise an easy installation.

ZVOX SoundBase 670

Brooks from Georgia on 1/2/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sound box is perfect for filling the gap between a full surround sound system and the limited speakers built into today's tvs. The box is very solid and well finished. One wire connectivity is simple, as is the tv/satellite remote programming. The final result is a rich, full sound that turns on with your tv - just what I wanted. And the dialogue enhancement function works quite well; at age 66 I don't hear as I once did. All in all, an excellent solution to the poor speaker quality attendant to the modern television.

Pros: Easy set up, simple functionality, solid rich sound for the tv.

Cons: None noted after one month.

Very nice TV sound system

PG Simons from Maryland on 1/1/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice system overall. Surround sound is better than my older system with speakers all over. The Accuvoice works well at accentuating dialog, although it doesn't slow down the British or help them enunciate any better. :>). the sound levelling works and is a plus and I like the three levels of surround sound. Music sounds pretty good as well. Not audiophile quality, perhaps, but I like it well enough. Haven't tried the bluetooth yet. Very easy to setup and install, although my remote took a bit of thinking. Very happy overall with the purchase.

Pros: sound quality, voice quality, ease of use, simplicity, sleek

Cons: None

One of the best sound bars

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using the ZVOX for about a month. Using the included optical cable and power cable, It was very easy to setup. I am using it with a Sony 52 inch TV. Following the provided directions, it was very easy to program my Direct TV remote in order to use it for both the TV and the ZVOX for On/Off, Volume, and Mute functions. The sound is very good when watching TV programs, Blu-Ray movies, and listening to Direct TV music channels. I am currently using the ZVOX without an additional sub-woofer. I'm using this system in a very large area, probably close to 16 ft by 30 ft, with a high two-story cathedral ceiling. When I called Crutchfield, I spoke to Levi. He was extremely helpful, answered all of my questions, and didn't rush my buying decision. I will definitely contact Levi for all of my future Crutchfield needs. The only thing I have not tried yet is the Bluetooth connectivity. Once I try using Bluetooth, I will update this review to let you know how it works. Special thanks to Crutchfield and Levi for the great product and the excellent customer service.

Pros: Great sound for TV, movies, and Music. Easy to setup. Good price for the sound quality

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unable to make a satisfactory optical connection possibly due to age of Sony TV however RCA connections that were supplied worked & didn't seem to be a compromise in sound quality. This replaced a high end component arrangement due to space limitations without any noticeable difference although it was helped by using our HSU sub. Bluetooth not used. Scratch & Dent purchase although have not yet found a trace of any defect. Totally satisfied with yet another Crutchfield purchase.

Pros: Outstanding sound, easy installation & reasonable price

I bought this product because i have trouble hearing dialogue, it solved that problem. I also like the feature the equalizes volume level between commercials and programs. The bass sounds way better than my Television's sound. It won't replace my music system, but it work well for watching television.

Pros: Easy to set up, better sound than TV especially for dialogue.

Cons: not great streaming music

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit replaces built in front and rear speakers. 70s built ins are being taken out and needed a simpler central speaker system. This unit outperforms the 4 separate speakers. Took all of 5 minutes to set up. One optical wire from TV to unit plus plug it in to wall outlet. Set unit to Sansung setting and DirecTV remote worked since it matched TV. No programming necessary. Turned bass up and see (or hear) no reason to plug in a sub woofer. Simple & quite effective. Performs comparably to $1500 amped soundbar.

Pros: Excellent Sound Low Price Ease of Set up

Perfect Solution

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My TV "room" consists of a large living area open to the kitchen/dining area and a large entry - tried in vain to set up 5.1 and 7.1 home theater solutions. This simple but elegant ZVOX 670 solved the spaciousness by providing clear and complete sound throughout. The dialog enhancement for recent movies is excellent.

Pros: Easy setup and use. Minimal wiring/clutter. Accuvoice works great. Sturdy base for large TVs. Great tone even at low volume.

Cons: Stereo music missing conventional separation. Surround effect diminished when listener not centered from soundbar.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently moved into a condo and have been concerned about running the volume of the TV too loud for my neighbors....but still wanted to be able to follow the dialogue on TV shows and movies. The claims made for dialogue clarity of the zvox SoundBase are accurate. I'm running lower volume than I did with the TV speakers can can hear quite well. Set-up was very easy....I haven't tried the Bluetooth connectivity so cannot comment on that.

Pros: Easy to set up Improved clarity of voice Over-all good sound

Cons: Voice clarity and volume leveling don't "automatically" come on...must be re-started with the zxov remote every time.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The box didn't work so I contacted the folks at ZVOX. For no apparent reason, it stated to work. Then, it started cutting out after an hour or so of usage.....no sound, just static. I returned the product for a refund. Perhaps I just got a bad unit, but I do not want to take a chance on another one. Also, programming the remote was not easy.....after following the ZVOX instructions over and over, I called them for help. Turns out a "special" (unpublished) code was required to program my cable box's remote.. Zvox supplied this code and the remote worked. Bottom line: I spent hours trying to get the unit working properly, with lots of tech. support from both Crutchfield and ZVOX, but my unit never worked for more than 1 hour at a time.

Pros: Nice looking product

Cons: Intermittent failures "special" (unpublished) codes required to program some remotes

This soundbase is fantastic. It amplifies sound perfectly and dialogue is crisp and clear. The soundbase is very easily paired with a Direct TV remote. I replaced a new Sony soundbase with the ZVOX because it is so much better. The Sony doesn't get loud enough, can't be programmed to use Direct TV remote and the Sony remote is crap (all the buttons have to be pressed twice and the remote must be pointed directly at tv). ZVOX rocks!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me first say, after reading other reviews, I thought I could eliminate our audio receiver completely with this purchase and give us better sound from our TV too. The 670 is an awesome TV speaker alternative. Great sound, like what you would hear from a home surround system. It fills our family room with sound and its a BIG open room with 20 feet ceilings. I feel there is nothing comparable to it on the market. Now comes the hard part for me. While we are fortunate to have a very good quality audio amp and speakers, I performed a side by side comparison between our home system and the 670 with the source coming from Amazon music. I paired the 670 with a 12 inch powered sub woofer then compared our system which utilizes a set of Klipsch Cornwall I's. The 670 is definitely missing in the mid range. Is it that noticeable? With our system it is night and day. Noticeable enough that I told my wife the 670 was NOT going to replace the giant coffin speakers (As my wife calls them and has told me on many occasions to not to buy caskets, just bury us in those darn speakers). I am amazed at the sound from the 670 and would definitely recommend them to anyone and believe most people would not notice the difference and its unfortunate that I did with my comparisons. If you are going to play music, I would suggest a separate powered sub woofer. Impressed with the 670 and you will be too.

Pros: Great Bluetooth connectivity Huge upgrade to TV speakers Great processing of streaming music such as Amazon Music and Pandora Compact

Cons: Need an additional powered sub if streaming music (in my opinion. You can always try it first and let yourself be the judge) Weak Mid range Pops when powered on Remote has to be in the front of the 670 to get commands

The 670 is well made and appears to be very sturdy. Sound is great, I like the AccuVoice feature and the output leveling feature. Being hard of hearing these features are a benefit. While the unit is on the large size, the low profile makes it blend in with our console. Glad my son mentioned this brand as I was looking at a different manufacture. I have not tried the blue tooth feature.

Great for use as a tv speaker sound box but to me lacked the bass I am seeking, I am holding out to try it with a subwoofer before I pass final judgement. Bluetooth connected rapidly and stayed connected once paired. Sound and clarity from the Zvox when watching a 3d blue ray was fantastic as well. Shipping was super fast and packaging was great considering the box was broken open so I was skeptical at first unboxing it but all was well once opened.

Pros: connectivity, bluetooth, beauty

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This base is practical and clarifies both dialogue, music, and various other sound effects. The use of sound enhancement gear these days is mandatory with the entire range of flat screen product gear. I am hoping the miniscule remote control will endure years of use, we'll see. Most sound bars do not make sense since they effectively obscure the lower part of the screen on newer panels.

Pros: Works excellent on all levels. Crutchfield has unsurpassed customer service.

Cons: The SoundBase arrived in its original, somewhat beatup by UPS. The unit however was not affected. I wish outfits like Amazon and their various suppliers and Crutchfield would go the extra mile and place electronic merchandise that is in the original box in another packing container (brown box). This would deter theft when left on your doorstep and more importantly provide an undamaged original box, same as if you purchased the merchandise directly from your local retailer.

ZVOX 67 upgrade from 575

Macuser from Tennessee on 6/8/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have owned a ZVOX 575 (analog technology) for 5 years and enjoyed it. I upgraded to the 670 to take advantage of the digital technology. As we have aged, I found myself using little or no surround with the 575 in order to get understandable dialog; dialog is certainly clearer (especially when using full surround) with the 670. The accuvoice feature can be used to make it even clearer (though canceling surround) when listening to news, etc. Volume also adjusts over smaller steps. And it works with my cable (Charter/Spectrum) remote control.

Pros: Clearer dialog than older analog version. Digital readout of surround, base, treble, and volume makes adjusting sound much easier than older analog version, Works with cable remote control

Pros: ACCUVOICE works like a champ...Sound output leveling is a good option and works as advertised....Packaging and shipping got the soundbase to me without damage...Instructions were above average....Set-up fairly easy....MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN $300 SOUDBAR I TRIED....ACCUVOICE alone is worth the price differential!

The ZVOX SoundBase met my needs perfectly. Our TV needed at least a three inch lift for optimum viewing and a serious sound makeover, the 670 did both. This purchase was to fix the TV sound only so I can't comment on music or movie performance as I have separate system for that. Set up was as simple as it gets and the satellite remote was easily trained.

Victor from Washington on 4/18/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted an all-in-one sound bar to replace an old Denon home theater that I was only using for TV sound and music. I also had an unusually large TV base that standard sound bars could not easily accommodate if I wanted place TV on top of it. After doing a lot of research, I looked at ZVox offerings, and this model met my needs, and ordered. It's big but not heavy and was very easy to set up - I merely unplugged from old Denon and replugged into same ports in Zvox. Everything worked from the get go. Sound crisp and clear, easy operation as I navigate back and forth among cable TV, Blu-Ray, Netflix and Bluetooth music streaming. Sleek looking, and size allows for a fuller sound without a separate subwoofer. Given the Denon cost me three times as much ten years ago, this is a fantastic purchase.

Pros: Straightforward set up, enough connectivity at back to allow unique connection desires. Not too heavy to lift. Did everything myself, but size may need two people. Bluetooth works perfectly fine. Easy to move among sound choices on remote. Big but unobtrusive. Technology improvement.

Cons: Remote is smaller than usual. My TV (Panasonic) could not easily be programmed to move Zvox volume settings to standard remote, so just use remote provided.

Prior to purchasing this product, I had purchased a Bose Solo15 from Bose. I am a great believer in Bose products, but was disappointed with the sound quality after the installation. I hate to admit it, but the ZVOX 670 blows the Solo15 away in every aspect. I experienced a minor issue with the remote, but the issue was quickly resolved by ZVOX replacing it. I highly recommend this product, giving it 5 stars for quality and customer support. The sales department at Crutchfield is very knowledgeable, and helpful.

Pros: Great Sound. Easy to install. Unit is well constructed. For people with hearing impairments, the Accuvoice feature is fantastic.

Cons: I find the remote to be somewhat flimsy considering that the unit itself is well constructed. Unit has a large footprint.

Just installed this last night. Love the sound. Remote is horrible. I had to go the unit to adjust everything. The remote just would hardly work. I put new batteries in. Tried it close to unit. tried from viewing spot. It was very frustrating right out of the box not being able to use it. I have att and tried programing the remote, no luck their either. I will try the learn part and see if I can get my Samsung tv remote to work with it but I am not confident in it. Will return unit if I cant get it to work like it should. Will try Tech support to on this and see how that turns out. Come on guys. I have seen other reviews on the remote. I do like the sound and ease of setup and not having speakers all over the place.

Pros: Sound is very good for what I was trying to accoplish

Cons: Remote control is trash.

A constance source of contention between my wife and I is having to turn the volume down for every commercial that comes on and is significantly louder than the show we were watching. Also we have found it difficult to understand low voices over the loud 'background' music. We just hooked up the ZVOX and so far it works as advertised. The sound stays constant for commercials and so far voices seem more distinct. We didn't purchase it for the surround sound capabilities but it does add a more balanced sound.

Pros: Ease of set up and controls.

Features

SoundBase 670: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 speaker system is designed to sit beneath your flat-panel TV so you can have surround sound without adding a lot of clutter to your room. It requires no additional speakers, subwoofer, or speaker wires. The SoundBase 670 reproduces TV shows, music, and movie soundtracks with lifelike accuracy, including crystal-clear vocals and big bass. The ZVOX SoundBase 670 is the perfect solution for people who want great sound from their flat-panel TV without the clutter and complexity of a conventional home theater system.

Note: You can place the ZVOX SoundBase 670 directly beneath most 40"-65" flat-panel TVs weighing up to 120 lbs with a pedestal base which does not exceed 29" in width or 15" in depth. The SoundBase 670 has a height of only 3.5". You can also place the SoundBase 670 on a shelf under most table-top or wall-mount flat-panel televisions.

Advanced Speaker Design: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 speaker system incorporates high-quality speakers, built-in subs, a highly efficient amplifier, and digital signal processing for high-fidelity sound. And its all packed inside one slim, compact enclosure.

  • 5 Speaker Array w/ Built-in Subwoofers: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 speaker system includes five front-firing 2"x3" full-range drivers and three down-firing 5.25" subwoofers. The 2"x3" full-range drivers use a long-throw design to create a remarkably wide range, accurate sound. The triple 5.25" subwoofers use a high-mass long-throw design and are coupled with a rear-firing port for deep, accurate bass.
  • Class D Amplifier w/ DSP:  The ZVOX SoundBase 670 employs a highly efficient 105W Class D amplifier that includes digital signal processing (DSP) for superb frequency response. The result is a very warm, natural, smooth, and accurate sound.
  • MDF Cabinet: The 670 features a hand-built cabinet of heavy MDF. The speaker cabinet is robustly constructed using fully-braced MDF (medium density fiberboard), not molded plastic that is found any many lesser expensive soundbar speaker systems. MDF is the preferred construction material for high-performance speaker systems.

PhaseCue II Virtual Surround Sound: The SoundBase 670 uses ZVOX's proprietary PhaseCue II virtual surround processing to give you rich, three-dimensional sound with movies or music. PhaseCue II, as its name implies, manipulates the phase of the separate channels to "fool the ear" into believing that sound is coming from a variety of sources throughout the room. The benefits of PhaseCue II vary greatly based on program material. Live music and well-recorded modern movie soundtracks will deliver rich, three-dimensional sound - pulling the sound out from the speakers and into the room, virtually surrounding the listener.

  • Music: With music, PhaseCue II creates a very wide soundstage - it literally sounds like you are listening to speakers eight feet apart from each other.
  • Movies: When listening to a good movie, the soundtrack will envelop you - putting you in the middle of the action.
  • Levels: You can adjust the level of PhaseCue II virtual surround processing effect. You can select from Surround One (low effect), Surround Two (moderate effect), Surround Three (strong effect).
Note: AccuVoice cannot be used in conjunction with a PhaseCure Virtual Surround Sound mode

Audio Enhancement: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 offers a variety of audio adjustment to enhance your listening experience.

  • AccuVoice: The SoundBase 670 includes the ZVOX AccuVoice feature, which uses hearing aid technology to create super-clear voice reproduction. When you push the "ACCU" button on the remote control you engage a circuit that mimics the functions of a hearing aid. The frequencies used by human voices are dynamically emphasized, while other frequencies are minimized.
  • Output Leveling: The SoundBase 670's Output Leveling feature automatically turns down loud commercials, while boosting audio levels from DVD and Blu-ray movies that are not loud enough. Simply press the "OL" button on the included remote and a sophisticated processor takes over, making soft sounds louder and loud sounds softer, so there are fewer jarring moments when switching channels or when commercials come on.
  • Tone Control: The SoundBase 670 has independent bass and treble controls. Each has a range from -4 to 4, and can be adjusted using the remote control only.
Note: AccuVoice and Output Leveling can be activated simultaneously.

Wired & Wireless Connectivity: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 offers wired and wireless connectivity; including digital and analog inputs, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a subwoofer output.

  • Digital & Analog Inputs: The SoundBase 670 has two optical (toslink) digital inputs and one coaxial digital input, plus two analog stereo RCA audio inputs on the rear-panel. Plus, there is a front panel analog stereo minijack (3.5mm) input for convenient connection of a portable audio device. The three digital inputs will support both 2ch PCM and Dolby Digital 5.1ch audio. The analog inputs only support 2ch PCM.
  • Bluetooth Wireless Audio + aptX: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 supports Bluetooth A2DP which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, laptop/computer, etc.. You'll be able to stream stored music or music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device to the SoundBase speaker system. The SoundBase 670 even employs AptX audio coding technology for lossless, CD-quality streaming with compatible AptX-compatible phones (like some Androids OS 4.0+). You will continue to use your Bluetooth-enable mobile device for music navigation and to view song/artist information.
  • Subwoofer Output: An optional powered subwoofer can be connected using the full-range mono-RCA Sub Output on the back panel for even bigger bass. There is no low-pass crossover built-in to the sub out, so you will need to set the low-pass crossover of your powered subwoofer accordingly.

Hidden Display: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 features a four-digit display located behind the speaker grille that shows the current setting for volume, bass, treble, and PhaseCue II (virtual surround); plus shows when you have engaged the Mute, Output Leveling (OL) or Dialog Emphasis (DE) features. A few seconds after you stop using your remote (or front panel) controls, the display disappears completely.

Remote Control: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the system. The included wireless remote has controls for power, input select, mute, volume, PhaseCue II effect level, bass & treble level, and DE/OL functions. The SoundBase 670 can also be programmed to respond to your TV or satellite/cable remote control. Once programmed, you can control volume, mute, input, and power with your TV or satellite/cable remote.

Note: Many newer TVs are coming with RF remotes and don't offer IR functionality. In this case, you would not be able to program the soundbar and TV remote to work together.

Auto On/Off: The ZVOX SoundBase 670 will automatically turn on if it senses a volume adjustment or power command from your programmed remote control or the included remote control. The SoundBase 670 will also automatically turn off if the selected input is silent for longer than approximately 30 minutes.

I chose the ZVOX because of past experience with the brand - all positive. I chose the 670 because its dimensions fit my needs. My Samsung TV badly needs sound improvement. Time will tell. [ RALPH  Dec 11, 2017 ]
hoping it has more balanced/natural sound than a thin soundbar with separate subwoofer. Better for music, without having to pay 500+ [ DUANE  Nov 24, 2017 ]
We recently purchased a ZVOX Soundbase for our home, and like the easy installation and sound it produces. This purchase is for one of our sons. [ RICHARD L  Nov 21, 2017 ]
Was looking for a sound bar for the bedroom Panasonic plasma display and decided on the ZVOX SoundBase 670 as this company has been making sound bars for a long time and has a good reputation. I liked the idea that it's a soundBASE and my display can sit right on top of it. Makes for an easy peasy setup in a bedroom environment. Also liked getting $40.00 off the price! As TV's have gotten thinner so has the sound. This will give any TV great sound without the complexity of a surround system. [ James  Dec 21, 2015 ]
