Putting the emphasis on dialogue — not commercials

Tiny television speakers tend to muddy speech, often making it difficult to follow the story. That's why ZVOX created a dialogue enhancement feature that gives voices new clarity and prominence. What's more, ZVOX knows how sponsors love to blast us out of our seats during commercial breaks. Thanks to the output leveling feature, the 320 keeps commercials on a short leash so you can just relax and enjoy.

ZVOX Z-Base V320

A whole lot of goodness in a sweet little package

This one-piece system houses three full-range speakers, a high-output woofer, and built-in amplification — there's no need to use a separate receiver or run wires to any external speakers. Plus, the system is designed to serve as a convenient base for flat-panel TVs with screen sizes up to 42". Even older TVs sit perfectly atop this sturdy wooden cabinet that can support up to 120 lbs. Place the SoundBase directly underneath your TV and you won't have to worry about making extra room for it on your entertainment stand.

Convenience is key

The SoundBase 320 is a great place to plug in your iPod® or portable player for terrific sound. It has a minijack input on the front panel for easy access. Its front-panel display lights up from behind the front cloth grille then disappears when not in use. And it learns the commands of your TV remote, giving you one less clicker to keep track of. Signal-sensing circuitry powers the system on and off along with your TV.

I really needed this product!

Thomas M from Charlottesville, VA on 1/29/2016

(I put all "5" ratings.) In the last 6 months, frequently I would have to call Comcast because I wasn't getting enough volume on my TV. They would do something, but as time passed, that volume wasn't sufficient, it would fade, so we had to crank up the volume even more, and I didn't think that was good for my speakers. So I talked to someone who had one of these Soundbases, and they said it worked pretty good. When we got this, it solved all our problems! We watch a lot of music, and I record movies (I never watch a movie live, because I don't like to watch the commercials). The guy who came out and installed it did a great job and was very professional. And when we hear the movies, everything's clearer than before!

Pros: Sound is loud and clear. Especially important when you're watching a football game, it helps with the background noise.

Cons: Love the product. This website to submit the review is the only thing that has given me any problems!

The system is muc better than regular speaker built in. Clear dialogue with more bass. Speaker offers much louder headroom without losing clarity. Nice size and not noticeable under tv. I recommend as good value.

Pros: good value easy install and works with any setup.

Cons: Not quite as good with music.

Excelllent Product

Steve T from New Hampshire on 3/28/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have a larger more expensive soundbase, from another manufacturer on our main viewing TV. Wanted to have a similar soundbase on the smaller TV in our den. The physically much smaller Zvox unit outperforms the larger unit in clarity and overall "sound". Installation was a very simple 10 minutes including synch of our Comcast remote. Highly recommend.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Could not get this unit to "remember" the cable remote commands. It worked at first but when the unit was turned off it "forgot" the new commands.

Pros: Clear dialogue. Good sound for the price. Easy to set up.

Cons: Remote learning feature did not work adequately.

Amazing Sound

Pauly from California on 2/11/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the size of the speakers in the box it performs amazingly well. I'm using it with a 50" LED TV in the bedroom. 100% improved sound.

Pros: Memorized FIOS remote first time. Easy hook up.

Cons: None

Excellent Sound Base

RC from Mpls, MN on 2/9/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, this is an excellent sound base. I looked at a number of different units including the Bose and Sony sound bases. For the price, this unit seemed like a good value with excellent reviews. I really wanted the Bose but couldn't justify the price difference. I am using this with a 42 inch LG TV and it works great. Hooking it up as a breeze and it sounds great. I now think I need one for our bedroom TV as you sure get spoiled quickly from the typically thin TV speaker sound. I haven't had any luck getting this unit to connect to my Comcast Infinity remote so there is more work to be done there. But overall, it's a good value and does the job. My wife likes it because there's not a bunch of wires and other speakers involved.

Pros: Certainly easy to set up. Digital optical cable included (as well as RCA cables.) Remote is easy to use and it does sound really good.

Cons: None really. For the price it does the job.

Outstanding unit for the price

Cons: A bit large.

Perfect Match

John B from Lincoln, NE on 1/20/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We purchased a 37" Samsung earlier in the year and found it lacking in audio when viewing movies. This unit was a perfect match, both size and sound for our 14' x 20' living room. We also have a ZVOX 555 for our 46" TV, and it is definitely more powerful, but this 320 does definitely packs a punch!

Pros: Size, voice clarity, and visible displays of volume, treble and base levels.

Cons: None

High qualiity, no-fuss soundbar

Lou from Pennsylvania on 12/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My new ZVOX 320 is just what I wanted in a soundbar. The sound is full and detailed. the box is sturdy and elegant, and the system integrates seamlessly with my TV. It took just a minute to get the ZVOX to learn my remote's volume, mute, and power commands, and now it feels no different from controlling my TV's speakers - but it sounds much better.

Pros: sound quality; understated, high-quality construction and appearance; seamless integration with TV and remote

Cons: none

Very nice system for watching TV Set up easy and allowed me to use my universal controller.

Cons: The size of the unit did not allow me to place it under my new LG TV

ZVOX Z-Base V320

RonM from W-B PA on 7/27/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You get pretty much what you can expect for the price. Not great, not bad. The surround sound settings don't make much sense. When I try to use the surround settings on Pandora you have to stay on Sd-1. Because, Sd-2 and 3 make some kind of an out of phase swirling effect on the sound. It messes with the stereo imagining. Also, you can't really go too high on the Volume before it goes into sound clipping. At higher Volumes the sound cuts off.

Pros: Beats the sound coming from the factory Television speakers.

Cons: Not the greatest Stereo Imaging. Limited Volume level before it cuts out. Chintzy production line quality cabinetry. A lesser price would be fairer for the V320.

ZVOX SoundBase 320

Mike from 16101 on 7/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The ZVOX Z-Base V320 was easy to set up and install. Everything needed for the installation was provided. The unit is delivering greatly improved sound from my television.

Pros: Easy setup and great instructions on use and functions of the unit. Easily adjustable to suit anyone's taste in sound. Being able to set the unit beneath the television is a great feature.

Cons: Could not pair with my Direct TV remote.

Works great

Alex from Los Angeles on 6/28/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my parents, who having trouble hearing dialog on the TV (especially when watching movies). This little unit made a huge difference in audio quality, and it significantly enhanced dialog... making it much easier to hear and understand.

Pros: Compact, great sound, you can pair it with TV remote (i.e. you don't have to use another remote to control this unit).

Cons: As others have noted, the process to pair the remote isn't as easy as it could be. I couldn't get the TV remote to power the speaker on/off. Also I can't figure out how to mute the TV's speakers and use this exclusively for audio (volume buttons on the remote control TV and ZVOX audio).

Very cool piece of equipment

Hannah from Huntingdon Valley, Pa on 5/30/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The V320 was everything I needed it to be. Great sound. Fits perfectly under my TV on top of my TV stand. It has a nice wide sound and the bass was good. I especially like the dialogue enhancement.

Pros: Great sound in a small package at a great price. Crutchfield rocks!

Needed something simple for tv in living room, soundbar was the way to go. This is good for those who don't want a lot of clutter in the room (subwoofer, satelites, etc.).

Pros: Mutch better sound than the tv's speakers. More depth.

Cons: could use a little more stereo seperation

JR from Pittsbugh PA on 3/1/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is simplicity defined while providing a significant upgrade to my 42 inch LED flat screen. The performance is as described - by manufacturer and previous reviewers.

Pros: Sound is strong and clear with satisfactory bass. The leveling feature functions well and the spoken voice feature is great, reducing competing background sounds. The settings displayed behind the mesh grill is a great feature! The price can not be beat!

Cons: The unit is pretty big and awkward, as well as unattractive (plain).

Great sound bar

Larry R from Dallas, TX on 2/23/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a way to get better sound out of my flat screen TV. I have limited space and settled on the Zvox 320 as it was the biggest I could fit into the allotted space. It was easy to set up and easy to program it so I could use my existing remote control. I like the features it has, such as type of sound you want and the virtual surround sound. The sound I get is far better tan the small speakers in the TV. Overall I am very pleased.

Pros: Easy set up, good sound

Cons: None

Big sound, little box

NC Mountain Guy from Asheville, NC on 2/14/2014

While not capable of mimicking a surround system, for a formal room with small screen, provides nice big sound without visual distractions of more complex surround systems or wider single bar systems.

Sound is as good as a Bose Solo for half the price.

Glad we bought it.

CW from charlottwsville, va on 1/24/2014

Enhanced sound is rewarding. After listening to the factory speakers on our TV for years, we should have purchased the ZVOX a lot sooner.

Pros: Much better sound. Raised the height of the TV. Great for picking up dialog.

Cons: ZVOX cuts off occasionally, which requires it to be turned back on.

Worked Great !!

SteveB from Gurnee, IL on 1/20/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For my setup this worked great and sound meets my expectations. This unit fits under my TV on a small shelf with the DirecTV box. Setup of the system was not flawless. I could not get DirecTV remote programmed via the first recommended method, but their last suggestion worked in the worst case. I like the dialogue enhancement feature and how well it integrated into the system. I can't imagine going back to only using the TV Speakers.

Pros: Quality of sound, dialogue enhancement, digital audio support

Cons: Remote setup was tricky

Much better than TV sound

Jarrett from Marion, MA on 1/15/2014

A great sounding speaker system for it's size. Not quite a Bose, but still nice and a much better price. I personally got it for the Dialog Emphasis feature which actually does help me hear what people are saying. Very happy with this product.

Pros: Price, size, ease of installation, features, good sound

Cons: good sound, not great

Vic P from Springfield, VA on 1/8/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had been looking and looking for something simple to connect to my HDTV to improve the overall sound. My Sony TV has outstanding picture but the sound is terrible!! I reasearched and researched and called Cruthfiled twice to get their help. I had looked at ZVOX products before but never bought one. WOW!! Why did I wait all this time "OUTSTANDING PRODUCT"! It is exactly what I was looking for. Enhance movie dialog, music, and overall sounds. The fact that the ZOV V320 has a small sub-woofer is just enough punch in sounds for the extra parts of a movie. Small compact design for my SONY 42 inch TV is great. Goes right underneath the TV. We don't even notice it there. The fact that I can program my everyday remote to the ZVOX a great Plus. Exteremly easy to connect. We have a 7.1 Stereo system downstair where its needed and the ZVOX will not give you that type of sound... However the sound that you get out of the ZVOX is clearly in a group by itself and provides great sound. Don't wait like I did all this time if all you need is something to improve you TV's internal speakers.

Pros: Over all sound, Price, easy to install, compact, fits under TV, can program to your remote.

Cons: None I could find

ZVOX Z-Base Sound System works well.

Roger B. from St. Louis, MO on 1/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

ZVOX Base is a great improvement over the standard TV speakers. Produces very good surround sound from only one box. Crutchfield's customer service is one of the best in the world.

Pros: Takes very little room since the TV sits on it and only needs one cable to connect to TV. You can program your TV, and/or cable box, remote to operate it. Easy to setup if you follow the instructions. There is combination of different setting to fit your personal sound preference. Set it up and forget it. Big improvement over the TV speakers.

Cons: If I had to find one con, it would be "no sub-woffer", but most user will not notice that unless they have been use to a loud pounding bass sub-woffer.

Full Sound

Phillip G. from Catoosa, OK. on 12/30/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The V320 definitely has better sound than my Samsung built in speakers. The sound is fuller and deeper and firing forward instead of back to the wall like the TV does. It is a little too bass heavy to be natural sounding, but it is an improvement to the thin sound I already had. It works fine using the analog out cable. If I use the digital out optical cable, the left channel didn't work. I sent it back for an exchange.

Pros: Louder and fuller sound. Easy remote control to use and to program the functions into an existing remote you may already have. It makes a solid foundation for the TV to sit atop. Easy hookup.

Cons: Left channel didn't work with the digital fiber optic cable. The surround modes are barely there, not much difference with them on or off.

Phillip from Milwaukee, WI on 12/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Been using this product for over a month and have no issues. Fabulous complement with new Samsung TV. The speaker(s) on the TV had lots of fluctuations in tone and sound quality, but the ZVOX fixed that right away. Not only does it sound good and looks great. Perfect for my situation, just looking for something decent within an affordable price range. If your on the fence about getting this product, I highly encourage you to just buy it and try it. You won't regret it.

Pros: Sound quality, customer service, looks great with TV mounted on it - great combo, like that you control the levels of bass and treble.

Cons: None

ZVOX Z-Base V320

Kraftyaunt from East Coast on 12/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this for the bedroom TV that sits on the bureau, not hanging on the wall, and this was the perfect component. The fact that it can act as the TV base instead of some bar running across the screen makes a big difference in maintaining the overall look of the bedroom. It doesn't look like it's starting to be a game room. The sound is terrific and the unit was worth the purchase, especially since it has the feature to equalize the volume when commercials come on. That's important to us for bedroom sound control. I'm sorry I purchased a different brand and model for the Living Room TV. This concept/product would have worked much better. I would definitely recommend this ZVOX.

Pros: Controls the volume on commercials. The fact that it is a box shape and is used as the TV base makes it 'disappear' into the décor. Sound is great.

Cons: None right now.

As advertised

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I live in an apartment so I can't crank it up. It sounds better than the TV speakers at low volume levels and set up was fairly easy. Learning the remote control wasn't as easy as expected since I have an ATT Uverse remote. I had to call Crutchfield support and ZVOX support.

Pros: fits under my 40" Sony

Cons: work around instructions needed from ZVOX to work with ATT Uverse remote/Sony TV

Great enhancement to sound

Henry from Orlando, FL on 12/20/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my elderly parents. They were having problems hearing the sound from their flat screen TV (Sharp). This Zvox really makes a difference and improves the sound. It's good for enhancing dialogue on the television. There is some bass but if you need the heavy movie theater experience, then I recommend purchasing a high quality theater system with a subwoofer. If you are going to plug the Zvox directly into the TV without a cable box, you can use a digital audio coax cable (not included). If you are using a cable box, then you can use the standard analog RCA cables too. There is a fiber optic jack available too. The Zvox came with the following cables: one analog RCA cable, one analog RCA-pc (3.5mm) cable, and one fiber optic cable. The remote control was easy to configure with my Brighthouse cable TV remote without any issues. The instructions were pretty thorough and detailed. Crutchfield delivered things very quickly without any issues.

Pros: Easy to configure, comes with cables, compatible with Brighthouse cable systems. Good dialogue enhancement.

Cons: Bass is okay. Don't expect movie theater quality but it is good sound.

ZVOX Z-Base 320

Dave c from New Jersey on 12/19/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well I'm an older guy and the" voices" well they would blend into the soundtrack and i would crank the volume and Miss perfect hearing would scowl and back down it would go. A big ticket device was not going to fit the budget so i took a chance on the 320 because i trust Crutchfield not to carry just any product. And it works very well, has enough flexability for my Movies and gaming without breaking the bank.

Pros: Clean lines, sturdy platform for the T.V. enough input choices and easy to program the remote of your choice .

Cons: The LED behind the speaker cloth has a dated look to it, but it goes off after a second after a remote input.

A great deal!

KRK4JC from Dallas,TX on 12/19/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a Speaker Bar that would fit in a rather tight space to provide better sound that my Sony 32" Google TV. Crutchfield online staff was very helpful in offering me options and ZVOX met my needs. The sound volume can definitely be loud and it really depends upon the programming for quality. General TV shows seem flat, while a Netflix movie had better special sound quality. For the price, it's very hard to beat this solution for my Master BR setup. It was easy to install and I like how it runs in standby mode until the TV is turned on. The front Audio Jack is great if you want to play music from your iPod/iPhone too. I don't want to pay more for Bluetooth.

Pros: Sturdy footprint, sound quality, and audio connections

Cons: None for this price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Exactly what I wanted. The sound on my Sharp lcd was terrible and I first tried the Boston Acoustics Ten, terrible bass reverb, defective remote.. Then tried the Zvox for the same price and wow, effortless to setup and use and the sound quality (i am not an audiophile) is perfect for my purpose. Highly recommended.

Pros: Easy setup. Great sound.

Cons: Does raise the TV up a few inches.

Works great

TimV from Kansas City on 12/10/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It is a great product for people wanting better sound than the terrible sound you get with all flat panel televisions. It hooks up very easily and has a nice stealth front panel that displays sound modes and volume level. I would recommend this product for anyone wanting great sound in a simple and stealth package.

Pros: Easy to set up

Cons: No dolby digital decoding

Good Results

Constant Reader from Charlottesville VA on 12/8/2013

We considered adding a sound bar to our 32" TV for quite awhile, and finally got around to it. We're glad we did. The sound is good, We wanted the dialog enhancement feature most, and the reduction in volume for commercials. There doesn't seem to be any way to increase the volume reduction for the ads, and they are still much louder than regular programming, so that's one thing that could be better. Still, the price was right, the service was excellent, and the product works as advertised, and that's pretty good.

Pros: Good dialog enhancement, good price.

Cons: The promised reduction in ad volume not adequate.

Great Sound Enhancer

WendyM from Montclair, NJ on 12/5/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The ZVOX Z-Base V320 is perfect for my 26" Toshiba bedroom TV so I had to try it when I saw they were on sale. I've been using "sound enhancers" ever since I've had my 2 flat-screen TVs because the TV speakers are horrible! I am insistent that the sound quality be as good as the picture quality. I like that the Base and Treble are adjustable (not so with some other brands) and the "Dialog Enhancer," which allows me to lower the volume at night and still be able to hear every word. This is my second order through Crutchfield; and, once again, the delivery was very fast. I previously enhanced my bedroom TV's sound through an RCA connection with my Bose radio, which worked nicely. However, I wanted to have the option to connect my TV to a sound bar/speaker system through an optical cable. I'm happy--Nice sound enhancement without all the unwanted wires.

Pros: Easy installment--just a few minutes Enhances sound without unwanted wires Flexibility to gear sound for movies, music, or dialog.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 60 inch vizio led that i had trouble hearing the voices in movies and broadcast shows. I bought this model for a few reasons. 1. My tv stand was too big and tv too heavy for most other models, but this one was perfect. 2. zvox is very affordable for what you get. 3. Being able to use my direct tv remote is a real plus. Regarding the sound the voice is marginally better but the overall sound is so much more rich.

Pros: Price, construction quality, ability to adjust bass and treble.

Cons: None

ZVOX Z-Base is Zfantastic

Dennis from Little Rock, AR on 5/24/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We bought a 39" LCD TV and just as I suspected the sound is horrible. We have the TV in a corner so a sound bar is not mountable to the wall and will block the screen if used on the surface. After searching and searching at every store that sold TV's and Stereo equipment, I stumbled across an old Crutchfield catalog, Eureka! Got on line and there it was, the solution to my problems at a reasonable price. The ZVOX measures up to the great reviews it has received, the look is inconspicuous, but the sound is rich and versatile with the Dialog Enhancer and several Surround Sound options. The ZVOX is easy to install, works with my Uverse remote, plays music from my iphone, and best of all, I don't have wires, speakers strung all over my living room. The ZVOX is perfect if you want great sound with simple design.

Pros: Compact, Great Sound, Ease of use, Crutchfield Tech support for life!

ZVOX Z-Base V320 Really Does Work!!!

Dave from Bonita Spgs, FL on 4/14/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

OK, I was looking for a bar that ENHANCES DIALOG. I had bought (and returned) another sound bar because it DIDN'T do what I wanted, namely pull a sports commentator's voice out of their phony boosted crowd noise. Some overzealous producers boost the crowd noise at a sports event to "create excitement". ARRRRGH!! Also, some older movies have characters whispering important asides, which we couldn't hear. Both situations are quite frustrating!!! I sought a sound bar that could suppress the background noise somewhat, and emphasize the voice frequencies. This Z-Vox did just that!! There's a specific button on the remote, called "Dialog Emphasis"!! Push that button and see the difference!! Don't know why every sound bar mfr. can't do that!!! BTW, these sound bars were ostensibly created for the newer "Flat-panel TV's" that have tiny speakers. We have a large (60") projection TV with sizable speakers. Our speakers are quite good, but they just can't do what theZ-Vox does!!!! Also,Crutchfield delivers FAST!!! I couldn't believe it. I ordered it, immediately went to the front door, and Voila!! No, it wasn't there, but a day or so later, it WAS there!! Very Fast!! Try one out and thank me!!

Pros: Easy set up; EMPHASIZES DIALOG!!

Cons: A bit pricey, but it WORKS!!

Excellent sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We purchased the ZVOX320 to replace the tinny sound we got from our 50 inch tv's speakers. The sound was not good quality at all. We read the reviews of other buyers and we totally agree with the positive reviews. Very easy to set up and the sound is great.

Pros: Price ,quality, ease of set up.

Cons: None

Deceptively Listenable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Few corporate marketing departments would leap to describe their product as a good compromise, but that's essentially the role of the ZVOX Z-Base V320. When you can't tolerate the tinny sound of your flat panel speakers but you have neither the space nor the money for a nice home theater system, the ZVOX is, well, a great compromise. It was especially well-suited to my elderly mom who hated the sound emanating from her plasma TV, but didn't want speakers cluttering her small living room. The solution was clear and so was the sound! The ZVOX Z-Base V320 serves as a base for your TV, while delivering exceptional sound and a reasonably effective pseudo-surround effect. For the hearing impaired, the ZVOX even enhances voices for a more pleasant viewing and listening experience. Granted, no one's going to be looking around the room for the subwoofer, but the ZVOX delivers as advertised and then some. Sometimes compromise is good.

Pros: Compact cabinet. Well constructed. Simple instructions. Easy installation. Room-filling sound. Voice enhancement for the hearing impaired.

Cons: At first blush it seems a little pricey, but the proof is in the listening.

Great unit

Great Sound from a Nice Box

Alan from New York, NY on 1/13/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This ZVOX was just what I needed to give my TV sound a nice, clear boost. I was limited to certain choices because of size constraints, and this one fit perfectly. It can certainly generate sound loud enough to shake your walls, but more importantly, it helps with clarity and speech even at lower volumes. It was a breeze to set up, it synched with my t.v. remote control in about a minute, and I have had no problems at all. It is far better than I expected it to be. Looks great, too -- unobtrusive but sleek, IMHO. And Crutchfield delivery was very fast -- I blinked and I had the unit at my house

Pros: Clear sound, terrific clarity. "Dialogue Emhasis" mode works well, as do the various "Surround Sound" choices and the "output leveler" (which raises the volume of whispered and low voices, and lowers the volume of screams and very loud sound effects).

Cons: If you want your home system to break your windows and reverberate like Radio City (and be filled with speaker boxes and amps), this won't get you there. It won't really give you full surround sound, since obviously, the speakers are all in front of you. Oh, it came with two manuals, both in French and none in English -- an obvious mistake in what was in my particular box -- but the English version was on the ZVOX website and took about two seconds to print out.

Excelent product for the price. The only 40 watts sound very strong with any distortion.

Pros: Great sound, no distortion, many inputs and nice bass.

Cons: Only stereo effect and pcm output.

Great Sound bar!

SherryW from Las Cruces, NM on 10/23/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my 3rd ZVOX sound bar having purchased two 550 HSD sound bars from in 2011. I purchased the ZVOX V320 to go with a new 26-inch Samsung television in my guest bedroom. Because of my past experience with ZVOX, it was the only brand I considered and I was pleased to see this new, slightly smaller model. The setup took about 5 minutes and the sound is absolutely perfect. With the variety of inputs, I am able to use the sound bar for watching television, listening to music through my home music server, as well as having a CD player or my iPod Touch attached. I am currently using the sound bar with an optical switch box which allows me to have all 3 devices running through the one optical connection of the ZVOX. There is no degradation of sound whatsoever with this method - the music sounds rich and vibrant and TV dialogue is clear and full also. The flexibility of the connections would also allow the same devices to be attached without any type of switch box by just using the RCA, coaxial, and optical inputs separately. The fact that this system can also "learn" from my Comcast remote control is also an advantage - the supplied instructions were easy to follow and to implement. The ZVOX sound bar is a fabulous alternative for folks like myself who do not want all the drama and clutter of a home theater system and yet desire high-quality sound. It is yet another quality product from an always reliable

Pros: Easy to set up; excellent sound quality for music and television dialogue; small footprint; a variety of options for connecting the sound bar to other devices; sound bar can "learn" from my cable company-supplied remote

Cons: Absolutely none!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Connected and set up unit and happily began to enjoy my new sound bar. Trouble began when I turned off the unit. It hasn't worked since. Crutchfield was great and another unit arrived the next day. Hooked it up and the LCD display would not display all the numbers and letters. Called Crutchfield who got me with a Tech who had no clue about the unit and after several minutes He connected me with Zvox who put Tech on the phone. It would also not interface with the Time Warner remote. He is mailing a new LCD unit and directions on how to install it and says that should fix the unit. If not they will send a third unit.

Pros: Just the right size and had great sound

Cons: Have had 2 Zvox units that do not work and am expected to repair it myself.

Great upgrade for built-in speakers

darrinmc from Massachusetts on 9/5/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to upgrade the sound from my 42" plasma TV without resorting to a surround sound system. I checked out a few sound bars but I didn't have a place to put it. Having the sound bar in front of the TV would block the IR receiver and I didn't want to hang the TV on the wall. This unit fit perfectly in a shelf below the TV in my entertainment center. It's not surround sound but it's a huge improvement over the built-in sound. It operates perfectly with the remote I already had. Turns on and off when it is supposed to.

Pros: Integrates seamlessly with existing TV remote (volume controls & on/off) Nice sound, just enough bass

Cons: Option to add a wireless subwoofer might be nice

Great little solution

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was looking for something that would improve the sound of our Sony Bravia flat screen TV in our vacation home. Since this is not our full time residence, I did not want to set up a traditional home theater system. Also, wanted something a little smaller than a typical sound bar. This just fits the bill. The sound is great for the TV, we can now hear dialogue and there is enough surround effects to make movie watching more enjoyable. The real plus, is being able to plug in my iPod and listen to music. The setup took less than 5 minutes and everything you needed was in the box. I would definitely recommend this product to others.

Pros: Sound, easy setup, iPod capable

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As we age our hearing becomes less acute. I found it difficult to distinguish the words being spoken on TV so I added closed captions. Once I attached this product to my TV the sound quality improved to the point that I'm able to remove the closed captions and understand the dialog.

Pros: Easy to install. Works as advertised.

Cons: Had to purchase additional connecting wires. Those included were not appropriate for my TV.

Nice compact unit.

Pros: The V320 cabinet is solidly constructed and the inputs match all types of perireral outputs. Easy Setup. It does appear to make speach more intelegable.

Cons: Sound is a bit hollow like it is coming through a duct (tube).

Perfect for a bedroom

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect for my needs. It is perfect for placing under our bedroom TV which sits on a dresser. Standard soundbars blocked the IR sensor, this one fits perfect. The sound is great, the control with the TV remote is nice and the sound features are another bonus. This is just what I needed.

Pros: The form of the product and the sound.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Good product

Donna from Worcester, MA on 2/17/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

An excellent and attractive solution for our TV sound dilemma. It gave us two things we needed and wanted that we could not find with any other unit. 1. it fits perfectly into a wall niche below our Samsung HDTV for a neat, flush installation. 2. it works off our TV or BlueRay remotes.

Pros: Clear and nicely diagrammed instructions.

Cons: The dig optical audio cable fit in the ZVox is very loose. It falls out easily if moved.

Greatest Sound Bar To Date

Skin from Central Coast California on 2/16/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this at basically the same time as an LG LED TV from Crutchfield because I had read through reviews and in Crutchfield catalogs how poor TVs' sound was these days. That and the fact that Crutchfield is devoted to service, which rarely exists these days, their great return policy, and ultra fast shipping. I am certainly glad I did since the TV's sound is very tinny, and the ZVOX unit is a definite improvement. What's great is that it allows you to set the TV stand on top of it. Improvements over previous versions of ZVOX units includes both digital coaxial and optical inputs in addition to analog inputs for greater flexibility. I really didn't notice a surround sound effect but that's not what I purchase this unit to accomplish. As rexcommended elsewhere by another reviewer, I turned off my TV's internal speakers, and my Zvox settings are Bass +4, Treble -1, Surround Sound 3, Output Leveling On, and Dialog Emphasis On. Like others have noted, I haven't noticed a major difference when using the Output Leveling feature, which is intended to keep volume steady when shows break and commercials come on, but that is a minor point. I highly recommend purchasing this unit at the same time as a new TV as explained above. In summary, this product is great, and I'm very glad I purchased it.

Pros: Greatly, greatly improves TV sound.

Cons: Output Leveling could be improved.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It rocks. Perfect for our setup. We had a built-in media niche that the Tv sits in. The sound from the TV alone was awful. The TV looks great sitting on top of the V320 and the sound is fantastic. 2 thumbs up!

Pros: Ease if setup; good solution for poor TV audio.

Cons: None

DB from Bakersfield, CA on 1/23/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a 40" Samsung and I needed a sound system that wouldn't overpower my small living room. The V320 was a perfect match. Because of its size and cost, I wasn't expecting the great sound that came from this unit. Simply put, it was awesome.

Pros: This unit is easy on the eyes and seems to be well built. Awesome sound for the price. Very easy to hook up.

Cons: The optical cord that came with the unit would not stay plugged in. I purchased a higher grade cord that seemed to improve the clarity of the sound. A minor "con" in my opinion.

Product Research

Overview: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 is a single-cabinet audio system for your flat-panel television. It combines high-quality speakers, a built-in amplifier, a built-in subwoofer, and ZVOX PhaseCue II Virtual Surround Sound processing to give you an easy surround sound solution. Since there are no speaker wires to deal with, you just need to connect the power and audio cables to get started.

TV Compatibility: Most 27"-42" flat-panel TVs can be placed directly on top the SoundBase 320. The television should weigh 110 pounds or less. The TV's pedestal base should not exceed 22" width or 10" depth. You can also place the unit on a shelf directly below the TV, if desired.

Class D Amplifier: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 is bi-amplified, using a specially designed, highly-efficient 45 watt Class D amplifier that includes electronic contouring for superb frequency response.

Three 2" Drivers: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 uses three 2" main speaker drivers that use a long-throw design to create a remarkable wide range, and accurate sound.

5-1/4" Subwoofer: In addition to the three main speakers, the SoundBase 320 has a built-in down firing high-mass, long-throw 5-1/4" subwoofer in a ported enclosure.

PhaseCue II Virtual Surround Sound: The SoundBase 320 uses ZVOX's proprietary PhaseCue II virtual surround processing to give you rich, three-dimensional sound with movies or music. PhaseCue II, as its name implies, manipulates the phase of the separate channels to "fool the ear" into believing that sound is coming from a variety of sources throughout the room. The benefits of PhaseCue II vary greatly based on program material. Live music and well-recorded modern movie soundtracks will deliver rich, three-dimensional sound - pulling the sound out from the speakers and into the room, literally surrounding the listener.

  • Music: With music, PhaseCue II creates a very wide soundstage - it literally sounds like you are listening to speakers eight feet apart from each other.
  • Movies: When listening to a good movie, the soundtrack will envelop you - putting you in the middle of the action.

Note: While the virtual surround experience isn't the same as a high-quality 5.1-channel system, the performance is much better than the speakers built-in to most TV's.

Wood (MDF) Cabinet: The SoundBase 320 features a cabinet made of MDF (medium density fiberboard), the same material used in most high-end loudspeakers. Its low-profile design blends perfectly with most flat-panel TVs.

Disappearing Display: The SoundBase 320 features a four-digit display located behind the speaker grille that shows the current setting for volume, bass/treble, and PhaseCue II (virtual surround). It also shows when you have engaged the Mute, Output Leveling (OL), or Dialog Emphasis (DE) features. A few seconds after you stop using your remote (or front panel) controls, the display disappears completely.

Dialogue Emphasis (DE): Dialogue Emphasis (DE) provides an easy-to-use and effective method for improving the intelligibility of television dialogue. By pressing the Dialogue Emphasis (DE) function button on the remote control, the system engages a circuit that mimics the functions of a hearing aid. The frequencies used by human voices are dynamically emphasized, while other frequencies are minimized.

Output Leveling (OL): The Output Leveling (OL) function prevents large changes in volume levels. Simply press the Output Leveling (OL) button on the remote control and a sophisticated processor takes over, making soft sounds louder and loud sounds softer, so there are fewer jarring moments when switching channels or when commercials come on. This system also helps by boosting the audio levels from a DVD or Blu-ray player that are not loud enough.

Surround Settings: You can adjust the level of PhaseCue II virtual surround processing effect. You can select from Surround One (low effect), Surround Two (moderate effect), Surround Three (strong effect).

Tone Control: The SoundBase 320 has independent bass and treble controls. Each has a range from -4 to 4, and can be adjusted using the remote control only.

Remote Control: The included wireless remote has controls for power, input select, mute, volume, PhaseCue II effect level, bass and treble level. and DE/OL functions.

Programmable: The new SoundBase 320 can be programmed to respond to your current remote control. The illuminated display walks you through a less-than-a-minute programming cycle. Then your TV remote, cable box remote, or satellite receiver remote can control volume up, volume down, mute, and power on the ZVOX system.

Auto Standby: The SoundBase 320 will enter a low-power Standby mode after approximately 5 minutes of no audio signal.

One Cable Connection: The SoundBase 320 requires only one connection cable. You can use either analog or digital connection options to your television.

Audio Inputs: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 offers analog and digital audio inputs:

  • Digital Inputs: The SoundBase 320 is equipped with a coaxial digital (single RCA) and an optical digital (Toslink) input. The digital inputs will accept 2-channel PCM only (not compatible with Dolby Digital bitstream signals).
  • Analog Inputs: The SoundBase 320 has two rear-panel stereo RCA analog inputs and a front-panel 3.5mm analog audio input. The front panel input is handy for connecting an iPod or other portable audio device.

3 questions already asked

I don't use it with a wall mounted TV, however my Tv is sitting on top of it and the sound is pretty goo. I have it set up in my bedroom and I usually watch TV when I'm on the treadmill, even with the sound of the treadmill it's still pretty good. Hope this helps a bit. [ Nada  Feb 01, 2015 ]
Nelson-- I did purchase a ZVOX Soundbase 320 in November of 2013, but my TV is not wall-mounted. Therefore, I cannot answer your question about whether the dialogue/background sound is far from the TV. I can tell you that the sound emanates from the front panel and definitely enhances the sound from the TV. There is a feature I especially like called "Dialog Emphasis," which will focus the sound more on the dialog. This is helpful if you're watching TV late at night, and you don't want to disturb other people. The top of the box is solid in appearance. I'm pleased with the ZVOX. [ WENDY  Feb 01, 2015 ]
For the money the sound is very good. The eq options are limited. Bass response is a bit disappointing d/t absent subsonics. Unless space and budget are limited I would recommend a slightly more expensive sound bar and matched sub. Pdm [ PAUL D  Feb 01, 2015 ]
Sound quality is better than what comes out of the tv's speakers. I also have the Bose Solo with another tv which has even better sound quality. The sound comes straight out the front for both uunits. [ ROBERT  Jan 31, 2015 ]
Hi Nelson, First off, I'm enjoying my SoundBase 320 a lot, having had it for two years now. The sound quality is very good, and everything still works perfectly. So I do recommend it. However, it's pretty close to my TV so any answer re the sound quality with a wall-mounted TV would be pure speculation. Just thought I'd let you know. Dan [ DAN  Jan 31, 2015 ]
We have the tv sitting on top of the box. I do not think the sound would be any different from a wall mount if it is not too high.We have the sound on the tv speakers turned off so there is no echo effect. The sound is much better from the ZVOX than the tv ,in fact there is no comparison between them. [ JOHN P  Jan 31, 2015 ]
My Samsung TV sits directly on top of the ZVOX unit. If your ZVOX unit will be close to the TV, then that's very close to what I've got. The ZVOX unit does provide a good deep and rich sound for your TV. We watch tons of Netflix movies on our TV via the Internet, and the ZVOX unit provides excellent sound. There's a huge difference between sound coming out of the Samsung TV and the ZVOX sound system. I will be purchasing another ZVOX sound system this year for a wall-mounted TV because I enjoy listening to the rich sound coming out of the ZVOX unit. [ JOHN S  Jan 31, 2015 ]

I use my V320 to supplement my tv's sound, it does a very good job in this regard. [ JERRY  Apr 04, 2014 ]

I synced to a cable remote with no problems so I can't imagine Dish would be an issue. [ ELLERY A  Apr 04, 2014 ]
I don't use my Zvox with a dish remote. I do use it with a Samsung TV and was unable to use the Zvox feature that allows it to be used with other remotes because the TV would disallow the use of the volume control on the remote if the TV speakers were off and remote ones in use. I use a feature the TV has which generates the appropriate response to be transmitted to the Zvox through an IR remote. [ CONRAD N  Apr 04, 2014 ]
Lorin--I'm afraid I can't be of too much help to you with this question since I have Comcast. [ WENDY  Apr 04, 2014 ]
